“You lied and I died!”

Making us proud Georgie.

I re-watched the 1990 mini-series and 2017 remake last month in preparation for this movie in terms of judging in quality. The 90's version had it moments, but I find some scenes unintentionally funny where it reeked of early Stephen King adaptations. 2017 was surprisingly good and a massive improvement, but laid back on cheap thrills.

‘IT: Chapter Two’ was a tough act to follow up on after the monster success of the first and with the second chapter being the hardest to adapt. I thought the movie both succeeds and stumbles in parts. Although reflecting back makes it feel more like a parody than a serious horror movie. An epic finale that ended in a over the top fashion - with themes of childhood trauma and the idea of holding on to the past despite growing up with age are sprinkled through out. The loser club are all grown up now and returning home to kill IT.

Whoever cast the grow up version of the loser club deserves massive praise here, because it’s pitch perfect casting and I could definitely see the child stars growing up to be the adult stars. James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Jay Ryan, and Isaiah Mustafa were all great in bringing the more dramatic aspects to the film. While Bill Hader and James Ranson bring the comedic aspects, but not to say they weren't dramatic as well, even making me tear up at one point.

Bill Skarsgard was truly amazing as Pennywise. The physicality in his movement has a certain silliness that you would expect to see from a clown, yet predatory with his animal-like attacks with drool running down his mouth and eyes staring in opposite directions despite looking straight at you. I find the dancing clown incredibly terrifying whenever he becomes playful and kind to deceive children.

Andy Muschietti truly shines as a director when it comes to bizarre imagery and unsettling camera angles, while also capturing some real emotions through the lens. The opening scene at the bridge where a homophobic attack takes place was really brutal and starts the movie off strong - on par with the Georgie meets Pennywise scene in the first movie.

Despite the run time being nearly three hours long, but I can’t recall ever being bored. It moved at a even pace in my opinion. I guess a few scenes could’ve been cut as most of it is unused footage from the first movie. Although it would be difficult to cut scenes as everything follows up to the next scene and that emotional punch towards the end wouldn’t be earned.

Now for the issues:

Henry Bowers was completely pointless in this movie and was only used for jump scars. Same thing with Mike, who through out these movies has nothing to do and the important things he did in the book was given to different characters.

I didn’t like how Stan’s suicide was handle, because you find out he actually “sacrificed” himself to save the others.

Some of the humor didn’t always land, especially if it’s right after a tense scene where it kinda deflates the horror. At times I struggled to gasp what the film marker was going for in certain scenes. Is this scene suppose to be scary or funny? Both maybe?

I wish there was more practical work for the monster scenes instead of CGI, because at times it looked really terrible. The finale battle at the end could’ve been in a video game boss fight.

Overall rating: Not as strong as the first, but still enjoyed it. Still, let’s kill this f**king clown.

It Chapter Two has some inappropriately placed jokes and some unecessary long scenes. The overall atmosphere by IT Chapter Two is great but the dialogs and chemistry between the characthers is greater!
The horror moments are gore and/or disgusting most of the time which is a good thing, i guess.
All in all i recommend it for all who read the book and/or liked IT 2017.

Not as good as the first movie; it was alright. Perhaps if they would have edited the movie down so it wasn't almost 3 hours long it would have been a better experience. At certain parts of the movie I was quite bored.

It is not bad either, at all, but leaves much to be desired in comparison to its excellent first part; his balloon deflates a lot, not so much but he floats very softly. It has some very good moments of tension l, quite raw and gore scenes, but in general it is a soothing hitter. "It" is not a clown, it is an evil entity that takes many forms and here they do not show it as such, in the first one it was well introduced but here they were limited with the character, they are still determined to only show Pennywise and do not show their true potential. Although the performances and the actors are very good, the "companionship" is not felt, only when there are flashbacks and they show them guys is when you notice that "brothers" atmosphere. Many times it is not understood why an adult is going to be afraid of something that feeds on your dreams and you already know that if you are not afraid of it, nothing will happen to you (of the children if it is understood, obviously) .The problem is the script and deepened to that the long duration that does not know how to build and spin the plot well; It has some scenes of other people's shame and also forced comedy. I liked Stephen King's cameo and the turtle references for example. I also liked the reference to Nightmare on Elm Street. Expand

But the plot of the second part is delusional, almost unrelated structurally. No movie, it's just gluing a lot of scenes. Actors are clearly trying, but with such a scenario nothing good will work anyway. Surprisingly, the first part of 2017 without a star cast looks much better. Expand

I liked the first one. Although they were aspects to enjoy here, this wasn't the part two that I wanted.

The film keeps up with the first by having some very good scares and just being visually creative in general. This movie includes a couple of very inspired transition shots near the beginning.

The cast playing the adult members of the Loser's Club all do a good job. I know it's been said to death but SNL & Barry's Bill Hader is the best of them. However, credit should also be given to Insidious' James Ransone. This movie is definitely funnier than it's predecessor and Ransone does a great double act with Hader. They have great chemistry. Of course, Bill Skarsgård still steels the show. His Pennywise continues to be unsettlingly childish and inhuman.

The main problem of this movie is that it relies waaaay too much on flashbacks. A lot of people liked the kid actors in the last film. Given that the adult character portion of the book and the mini-series is generally considered weaker, I'm guessing that the creators got worried about focusing just on the grown ups. So, a good portion of the second act relies on flashbacks to never-before-seen scenes of the kids. I mean there is a lot of this. Except for Hader's RItchie, who never really got a personal journey last time, we're not getting anything new. (Plus, I really didn't need to see anymore of Beverley's creepy father.) The setup for the flashbacks results in way too much of the characters just wandering about without much development. The sequel is way too nostalgic for the first, even the adult segments do too much recycling of previous stuff. I didn't want any of this. When I learned that the adaptation was being split into two movies for each of the age groups, I was prepared and content to watch just the adults, and I didn't get that. There needed to be way more time to focus on the lives of the current characters. (Again the character of Mike Hanlon (Isaiah Mustafa from the Old Spice commercials) doesn't get a lot of screentime.) BIll's wife and Beverly's husband basically have cameos here. Both actually had roles to play in the book. I would have preferred they cut the flashbacks and focused more on those characters.

The movie includes the last one's flaw of going way too-over-the-top with the real world threats. They are fairly cringey. In the past I could rationalize that the human characters are so evil and/or one-dimensional because everyone in Derry is affected by Pennywise's evil. However, here we see someone from outside the town also acting that way. So, now I'm just thinking it's just a lack of subtlety on the creator's case.

There was a point where I was considering giving this a ranking one notch higher, because I did like the good stuff. But in the end, I realized that I remembered the parts that bugged me far more. Be forewarned that this is one of those movies where personal enjoyment will really differ.

+ Excellent sound design

- Some really awkwardly timed funny moments
- Excruciatingly long run time
- Every single cliché jumpscare moment in horror is present in this film
- Childish underlying theme
- CGI was kind of silly

With its really long run time, crummy CGI and cheap jumpscares, this was just another horror movie that will probably only be of interest to those that are heavily invested in the books or the original TV series. To me, this was more of a psychological thriller that failed to really develop any mature themes/undertones that could keep me interested, with little bits of horror tension mixed in here and there. Add in some really awkwardly-timed comic relief and you have IT Chapter 2. It wasn't all bad though, I quite enjoyed some of the misplaced comical moments, the over-arching storyline and character development tethered by the first film, and the atmosphere that was created during the movie's more tense and creepy moments. The acting was hit or miss for me, but for the most part, both the adult and child actors did a very good job of portraying their characters and distinguishing them from one another.

Overall, it is just another average movie that went on way too long. If you're fully invested in the series as a whole, then by all means, go see this. If you are looking for an end-of-summer/pre-halloween horror flick to pass time, maybe look elsewhere.

The visual effects were excellent, creepy, and scary. The makeup effects were stupendous on Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise. The costumes were superb especially on Bill Skarsgård. The hairstyling was terrific especially on Bill Skarsgård, James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader, Sophie Lillis, Jaeden Martell, Finn Wolfhard, and James Ransone. It Chapter 2 adapted the second half of Stephen King's 1986 novel of the same name which continues the story of the Losers Club in their adult years going up against the returning Pennywise the Dancing Clown.

Twenty-seven years after the events of It, the Losers Club are now adult and all of them have led a successful careers in their life. Most of them have moved out of Derry, Maine except for Mike Hanlon, who is the only who stayed in town and worked as the town librarian. Recently, Mike realised that Pennywise has made his return after he learnt that Pennywise killed one of the gay couple after they were attacked by homophobic youths.

He calls all of the Losers Club members to come back to Derry as soon as possible. Bill Denbrough (McAvoy), Beverly Marsh (Chastain), Ben Hanscom, Richie Tozier and Eddie Kaspbrak return except for Stanley Uris, who commit suicide after being told to return to town. The Losers Club have a reunion in a restaurant but they are attack by Pennywise (Skarsgård).

After the attack, Richie and Eddie wants to leave but Bill convinces them to stay after Mike told him that there is way to defeat Pennywise once and for all. Meanwhile, Henry Bowers, the bully who terrorised the Losers Club many years ago is revealed to have survived and breaks out of the insane asylum with the help of Pennywise and begins to hunt the Losers Club.

Just like the previously movie, character developments is once again the strong points in this movie. The adult casts who plays the Losers Club really matched their younger counterparts in terms of character developments and performance. The chemistry between for the adult casts worked really well on screen. In addition, I never find any flaws from the adult casts when they tried to match their younger casts counterparts. They really sync perfectly. Out of the Losers Club, Bill Hader who played Richie Tozier, have the best performance.

Bill Skarsgård have once again gave his best and terrifying performance on his portrayal of Pennywise just like in the previous movie. He never ceases his to amaze me with his acting and all of his scenes are not very boring. Andy Muschietti have also done a great job in his direction too just like his last movie.

However unlike the first movie, there are some flaws in this movie. The jump scares are not quite scary like in this first movie. Some of them are pretty predictable and you will know that a jump scares are coming in some scenes. The jump scares were really downgraded from the previous movie. Compared to the first movie, this one is less scary.

Unlike most of the horror movies shorter runtime, this one have the longest runtime, which is 169 minutes. If you are planning to watch this movie, be prepare for a long ride. If you have experience watching a three hours movie, I am sure you won't have problem watching this movie. Another flaw in this movie is the sub-plot. The sub-plot which involved Henry Bowers' revenge against the Losers Club does not contribute much to the plot and he does not have many scenes. I felt that this sub-plot should have been remove.

Overall, It Chapter 2 may not be as great as the first one but it still a good sequel and horror movie to enjoy. If you are a fan of Stephen King's works, you probably want to watch this movie to complete It duology. Having mentioned duology, I hope this is the final instalment because I do not think it is a good idea to adapt It novel into a trilogy as it will only ruin the original novel which at best can only adapt into a duology.

It boasts a great cast, two very well done (and short) Pennywise scenes, and a cool shot or two, but that’s about it. It’s an overlong mess of a movie that is almost saved by just how hilariously bad it gets at times. It definitely falls into the category of “so bad it’s good” films, with its awful effects, hilariously incompetent ideas for scares, and moments that straight up make no sense. Expand

I loved Chapter One, as I loved the portion of the novel that focuses on the characters when they were kids. The horror is heightened, and everything is new. I was never a big fan of the adult portion of the novel. I understood why it needed to be there, and I did think it was cool to read about how everyone's lives had progressed up to that point. The story itself, though, never hooked me like the childhood portion. The film is very much the same. I enjoyed seeing all of the characters reunite, but from that point on it is a rehash of Chapter One but with adults. The narrative is the same, and the finale is largely the same. The only difference is that it's not executed as well this time. It's messy, it's not scary, and it's far too long. It feels more like a generic horror film but with superior acting. I still enjoyed it for what it is, and I do look forward to watching a supercut of the two films (which they're bound to release). But, eh, this is not going to go down as one of my favorite films of the year. Expand

So, I saw the movie, and I find it's good. IT Chapter Two is a great finale to the novel, and it is the ultimate conclusion of the movie series, which adapts the second part of the novel, and the movie is still faithful to the novel, though less than the original. The adult actors give off amazing performances as the older Losers' Club, a particular highlight being Bill Hader, who is a lot of hilarious and even quotable lines. The adult actors were improved from the 1990 one.

It still has very creepy moments, very creepy, and it has jumpscares too, and it's more darker like the first movie.

Bill Skarsgård also still did a great job as Pennywise the Dancing Clown, and he is at his absolute best, with him being stronger, evil, and powerful than ever.

The set and creature designs are some of the best, and maybe better than the original, since it gives off a ton of nostalgia. Just like Avengers: Endgame, the conclusion is satisfying, albeit with some bittersweet tinges!

The soundtrack is still more scarier, and suspenseful.

And the final battle is so epic, although it may not too scary, but the final battle with Pennywise the Spider Clown! :D

During the final battle, it has "You lied and I died" scene, and even the three door scene.

It's very scary, and it's amazing, and it has more touching moments.

But there some thing that are not too scary, the movie may be more of a comedy than being too much a horror movie, kind of like an Indian horror film.

The movie does however feel too long, with a runtime is 169 minutes. Yes, 169 minutes in the entire movie, although you can edit the movie and you could cut any unnecessary scenes that are not too interesting, or didn't fit the second chapter at all, so It look like an awesome conclusion, but it alright anyway. But overall, IT: Chapter Two is a very satisfying conclusion to the remake It film, and it's amazing, if not better, or anything good from the first movie.

( 76/100 )

"It Chapter Two" it's an interesting case to analyze. There's more adventure than terror, more thriller than scare, more comedy than drama and, in general, this is gore cinema. And that's fine. Personally, I enjoyed it, especially the third act since there's an evident intention of expanding and exploiting most of all the visual concepts that could exist in the book or at least the ones that Gary Dauberman (the screenwriter) planned for this adaptation. Muschietti, in that aspect, has an incredible vision and shares a visual trip rich in creatures and spooky, bloody, psychotic and spectacular situations that aims to be one of the best hunted houses that cinema has done. Nevertheless, it's not difficult to know why it can be deficient. Before getting to the end, it's necessary to join the characters in their personal walkthrough in which they will be attacked by their retrieved memories. That second act is kind of heavy and fails in graving the public since the characters (even though they have all the potential of representing many minorities) are so bounded to get over situations so personal that any transcendence is nullified. In that aspect, the opportunity windows are closed and the doors that are left open just create some confusion and distance; like the background of Pennywise and its invocation ritual. On the other side, there's a better cast work than independent acting. James McAvoy feels kind of weird, Jessica Chastain is very simple, Bill Header is just enough, the others are just comic or narrative reliefs and Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise carries with a really uncomplete character. But, when everyone is together, it can be felt an interesting and fluid interaction in which visually, all together, contribute with the most important drops of nostalgia in the film.

I can see this film being divisive but I think that this film watched with IT(2017) in a super-cut will be a better re-watch. These films are very similar and I don't see why its getting that much hate. Horrors haven't been great this year and I think this the best one so far. The cast is great, the story is interesting but might seem ridiculous as it is a book by Stephen King(was high when he wrote it). The CGI was mostly decent but could've better, looked a bit bad during some scenes and Richie is just great with Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise. I would recommend this film but with expectations of this being more comical with scares but much longer as it feels like there's too much and very empty at the same time. It's hard to explain. I will probably re-watch when DVD/Blu-ray comes out or with the super-cut the director wants to make. I would recommend this as I wasn't bored even though it was almost 3hrs long. I though it was very entertaining and a good watch. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I felt that this movie was arguably just as good as the first one, just in different ways. It certainly wasn't as scary but I felt just as jumpy. The casting is perfect; Bill Hader steals the show but the rest of the cast kills it. Much better than the child cast. Pennywise is scarier than ever, and the addition of more villains makes the stakes even higher. Feels to me like a cross between Halloween (2018) and Stranger Things. Just as it is creepy, it's also very funny and heartfelt. The ending is fantastic and wraps up many of the loose ends. It really feels like the end of an era, though being only two movies long. I would watch this if you feel like a movie that can scare you, make you laugh and make you cry. It does a great job of all three. Expand

Indeciso, emocionante(?) e entediante...

It features stuff from your worst nightmares, a scary clown, creepy crawlers, hideous monsters. And yet, it is not the stuff on the surface that scares you most, it is the absolute manifestation of your emotional fears. Crap that you have buried under layer upon layer of mental walls, making it disappear from your mind and thoughts. Until it is uncovered again.

This film embodies this. Takes a shovel and digs its way into your fears. This is what happens when you let a director loose who wants to do the source material justice. Not only for the fans, but because it is such a clear representation of what deep, emotional fear can be like. And when the shovel stops working, it takes a pickaxe. Then a drill. Then dynamite.

Skarsård has been compared to Heath Ledger wearing his role. And they're not wrong, the comparison is spot on. He lives and breathes Pennywise. If not for that brilliant casting, the movie would have falled flat for sure. And it's not only the clown that's been handed to capable hands, the rest of the losers are all one by one perfect in their adult rules. This is beautiful film making in a genre that has gone mostly unnoticed by talent. It's a great movie to end this decade of excellent horror movies.

It's not only scary, it's sweet too. Banding together with your friends to beat the demons of your past, together. It gave me the greatest sense of nostalgia for them, the characters and their lives in Derry.

I loved this movie and it's one of my favourite of the year and one of my favourite King adaptations. I would like some more, please.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. "It: Chapter Two" continues the story of a group of Derry friends, 27 years later have now grown up. This film was not as wonderfully portrayed as "It: Part One". However, presents a lot of nostalgic moments. The special effects team has overly done the CGI for the 'creepy' creatures that were supposedly meant to haunt you for life. The creatures were more hilarious to watch. As a person who does not usually watch horror films, I found Part 2 to be much more uplifting, happy, and comical. However, Andres Muschietti beautifully captures the relationship of Richie and Eddie. I really liked the aspect of revealing Richie's sexual orientation. It was not too "out there" and it was not expected. It was not extreme, but low key. This idea is much more relatable for people who are going through the same situation. Although, the sequence of the Native Americans(who Mike seeked out for help to get rid of IT) was extremely unnecessary to the plot. Overall, "It: Part Two" is a very bittersweet, nostalgic, and satisfying movie, that will forever warm your hearts. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was a big fan of the two first movies (1980s and 201X) but the charecters just don't hold up as adults. They are beloved as children but they seem to not only have lost their memories of dary but seem to have forgotten they are no longer in middle school. The best parts of the film are the kids doing flashbacks of what seems to have never happened because at the end of the first film they stated they are moving away. Also remember dary is the town where no matter what happens police don't have any questions for you. Expand

This blockbuster has by now pretty much run the usual course of time in theatres, but I do have just a couple of comments . . .

Stayed pretty faithful to the first movie, altho definitely stood on its own with its outrageous special F/X (can anyone enlighten me as to the significance in the scene where one of our heroes gets slimed in black oily vomit to the strains of "Angel of the Morning" for three seconds ?). Was there a crossover of producers and writers of other landmark horror flix like "Nightmare on Elm Street" or "The Shining", who took advantage of snippet scenes such as the marquee over the old movie house ? One super-obvious reference to another Stephen King hit "The Shining" threw in a couple of copy-cat scenes only seconds apart -- the "Here's Johnny !" face-in-the-door, followed immediately by flooding the toilet stall where Beverly was cornered with gallons of blood filling up the tiny space, as tho we couldn't get enough of that from the elevator scene in "Shining". Was that just cheap inspiration remounted for this reel-deal or was it intended as a surreal moment of film nostalgia intended to do a number on the viewer's already over-cooked brain ? At least this two-and-three-quarter hour horror fest ended on some notes of loving comradery of our united gang now all grown up, learning the value of loyalty and devotion to a cause.

Don't expect any tears of joys from the audience at those closing scenes. Just go see it for the fun and sensation.

I admit it, This movie is not as perfect as the first one but that does not stop it from being a fun and spooky ride. What really drives this movie is its cast of characters who are portrayed perfectly by the actors. I'd really like to put my spotlight on Bill Hader who portrays Richie Toizer (Previously played by the wonderful Finn Wolfhard.) Bill Hader really steals the show and I really think people ignore him as an actor. Not to ignore the other actors though which are all perfect. In this movie Pennywise comes back to torment the town of Derry Maine once again after 27 years. IT Chapter 2 is a long movie (3 Hours) and I think for good reason. The novel is 1000 pages long, It would be hard to fit that in 2 normal length movies. At know time did I really start to feel the length of this movie and I had no issue sitting through it. Let me get this straight though, This movie is spooky... Not scary. It's like walking through a haunted house at a theme park. Just pure fun horror goofiness. Scenes that were supposed to be scary made me laugh most of the time. But that doesn't extend to the clown himself... Pennywise. Bill Skarsgard does a perfect job as Pennywise and I actually felt a sense of dread when he was around. It really shines in one scene involving a room of mirrors which I won't spoil but just know, It is intense! I think the best of this movie is in the final confrontation which can only be described as incredible. The only reason I would put IT Chapter One a little bit above Chapter Two is the fact that IT Chapter One had me scared in almost every scene. The kids make a return in Chapter Two in the form of flashbacks which are excellently done and they all feel like they did in Chapter One. Besides one thing... A few of the kids grew up and they had to digitally de-age them which can be especially noticeable with Richie (Finn Wolfhard) but I stopped noticing this later on. This film has a lotta heart also. The chemistry between the losers is perfect and when something bad happens you feel as if it really happened. I cried twice during this movie but I won't say when. But other than the bad de-ageing I would call this a perfect film start to finish... Please go see it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie doesn't lack the necessary entertaining qualities of a good viewing. IT 2 is definitely worth experiencing in a theatre for the ambiance. That said, the movie is very jumpscare heavy. This gets kind of tedious after an hour and a half. I dont believe IT 2 has any replay value either, unless you are a huge fan of the recent installments and the story. There were also a few scenes of pointless violence against random characters with very little setup or explanation as to why these people were targeted. There was also no revisiting or conclusion to these characters stories, which is puzzling for a three hour movie. I still found the movie entertaining and worth the ticket. Expand

Just saw the movie last night and while it wasn't nearly as scary as the first one, it's a lot goofier and I found myself laughing a lot during the Chinese dinner scene and the numerous scenes where characters are finding their artifact. It made sense and was very inclusive to add multiple gay characters as coming out is something many people fear , the only downside to the movie is it feels like a 3 hour long movie and isn't as engaging or as scary as the first one, and it can seem confusing at times, but besides it all it was a fun movie that I wouldn't mind watching again! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This Movie is absolutely fantastic besides Beverly's character being useless during most of IT chapter 2 (IT Chapter 1 she was arguably the best written and most important character maybe besides Richie.) She was my only gripe with this movie whatsoever, the plot twist of Richie being gay made sense for the character and his interactions with Eddie i already figured he had feelings for him at the end. absolutely fantastic film, amazing ending. Poor Eddie but i feel as Richie wouldn't have reached his peak without the death of his first true love. Pennywises death and fight scene was epic but also made sense due to the nature of how the dead lights work and how Mikes explanation made complete sense. Stan's suicide was notable made sense and furthered the plot in my opinion (though he deserved better.)

The Characters felt like themselves from the first just older, they had chemistry altogether just like the first movie, tense, scary, dramatic and boy did i cry.
Great movie Almost Perfect 9.5/10

(Deserves a better rating imo)

I would have loved the movie being full focused on the horror theme of Pennywise, the comedy is recycled jokes that spoil the horror; I liked the movie, I watched it with my gf!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To begin with, I did not like the second chapter of IT, the first movie was more focused on horrifying parts in comparison to the second one. The second one was not good at this parts, because it was showing the same figures from which the characters of the movie were afraid, so since we already had seen those figures, it was not horrifying as in the first movie. This was the main reason that I did not like this movie. Also, I did not like the fact that most of the main characters got killed unlike the first movie. Expand

Expand

In a movie where the main characters are horrifically bullied the monster is finally defeated by calling it bad names.

It: Chapter Two is a collection of CG horror scenes. After the fourth time a character is chased by something scary, only to escape by just running away, you know the following 20 randomly stitched together "scary" scenes don't matter at all. You just sit there waiting for the characters to pull something out of thin air (in third hour of the film) to kill the monster.

The end.

It: Chapter Two doesn't quite live up to the scare factor of the the first, but it doubles the laughs. Bill Hader is hilarious (as always) and definitely adds to the entertainment value of the film. If you liked the first, you'll like this one too.

I went to watch this movie at the movies, and in every moment of terror I scared the hell out of being terrified. But when watching back home these days, I found a slightly troublesome movie having more adventure and comedy than the horror itself.
And lastly, the most terrifying thing about this movie, besides the clown, is the duration, I'm scared to remember.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. IT: Chapter Two is quite frankly a 'meh' movie, hence the 5 rating. This movie does fit well with the original writing of Stephen King, with some artistic choice of course. The casting of the adult Loser's club is fantastic, and the actors are fantastic at portraying adults with a wicked and twisted past. That being said, this is a horror movie, which means the intention is to create fear in the audience. I, as well as the group I attended the showing with, found ourselves laughing more at the movie than being afraid. One scene, in particular, you see old 'Mrs. Kersh' turn into a giant, naked freak of nature that is funny, and not remotely scary.
The real fear factor is supposed to come from jump scares, just like the first movie. However, just like the first movie, these scares are hardly concerning. If the viewer has seen any other movie with jump scares or has played a game with jump scares, they will already be prepared for the timing of the scenes. Ultimately the problem this movie faces is a feeling of unsettlement as opposed to fear. Watching Pennywise open his face like a banana being peeled inside out is interesting and unnerving, but by no means is it scary. Neither is watching Beverly drown in a bathroom stall filling with blood, which in many ways is more comedic than threatening. Perhaps the problem lies in the desensitization of society towards gore, but nonetheless, IT: Chapter Two ignored that problem, leaving a movie lacking in the scare factor it promised. The movie felt so fake to the audience that there was also a lack of immersion, which again takes the fear back another level.
Ultimately, this movie is well done from a casting perspective, as well as strictly from the story perspective. Unfortunately, the fear factor is taken away by a combination of age-old jump scare tactics, desensitization to gore, and a failure to immerse the audience.
