The visuals are good , the fight scenes fun , but the paint by numbers story is disappointing. Watched it on Apple TV , clicked fast forward a lot .

It was fine, but to be honest I thought it was a little boring. Baby scenes were the most fun, and quite frankly, I think they could have done the whole movie about being a super hero family and trying to manage the three kids and the kids development into supers and people at the same time. My expectations are always high when its a Disney animated movie for obvious reasons. This one for me is just an average Disney animated movie. It's not a classic nor is it innovative enough. But its not a bad movie. It's good.

Quite liked the first half. Almost fell asleep during the second. The plot was incredibly predictive (pun intended). Some really stupid stuff going on aswell. Especially the 'Dash' character was wildly annoying at all times.

And it seems all superheroes do is stop large things that move at high speed. Train, check. Boat, check. Huge drilling machine, check. I felt like I was watching the same movie 3 times in a row.

And I hated how gullible they made Elastigirl. It was so frustrating seeing the plot unfold in such a predictive manner, and Elastigirl was just completely caught off guard by the most obvious things. She did figure it out, sure. But not until the very last moment, when **** hit the fan anyway. So it was clearly to make the plot work - so she had to be naive. And I didn't care for that at all.

With all of that out of the way, the movie does have its moments. The scenes with Jack-Jack are hilarious. And I loved the Edna segment. It was definitely the high-point of the movie.

Also quite liked how Elastigirl took on her first mission. It was only on the other go-arounds it felt repetitive and naive.

So, there's some entertainment value in specific scenes for sure. But it felt bloated, predictive, repetitive and a bit of a mess overall.… Expand

Incredibly over rated. The original was one of pixars worst movies and part 2 is outshined by recent Disney/Pixar animated features like Tangled / Coco / The Good Dinosaur.

It’s been 14 years. After all these years and sitting through three ‘Cars’ movies - The only sequel that needed to happen has finally happened. It couldn't come quickly enough. Because I“Help me bring supers back into the sunlight”.

After all these years and sitting through three ‘Cars’ movies - The only sequel that needed to happen has finally happened. It couldn't come quickly enough. Because I cherish ‘The Incredibles’ on multiple repeats when I was little. Also losing count of how many times I've played the PS2 game version. So yeah, this meant the world to me and anticipating a sequel for a long time, just like everyone else.

While ‘Incredibles 2’ doesn't quite hold a candle to the first, but still, I liked it. There’s a lot to like and enjoy. And yet recognize it’s flaws as well. It's not a disappointment, which makes me happy, just judging by Pixar recent involvement with it’s sequels.

Brad Bird is a talented film marker and storyteller, both in animation and live action. In animation however is where he really shines. Bringing a rich style of nostalgia that clearly influenced his personal life - Going back to the golden age of cinema and inputting into his work. Same thing applies with this movie and managing to keep the level of quality strong after all these years.

The animation was great, now that’s nothing new, yet this needs repeating. It’s bright, colorful, and full of life. Pixar always succeeds in animation. The choreography during the action sequences was energetic and exciting with the animation being glue to hold it altogether.

The character’s screen time is perfectly balance so you got to see just enough of everyone. Probably the most enjoyable part of the whole movie is watching Bob (Or Mr. Incredible, if you like) trying to take care of his kids. I think the reason why is the family dynamic and the reverse roles in that situation. Most of the heart and humor are in those scenes. I mean, it’s better than the actual plot itself involving Elastic girl.

Now this ties in with my main issues: The villains are paper thin and painful generic. I don’t want to spoil anything, but then again, the movie basically spoils itself from having a predictable narrative. When the villains motivations are revealed it’s pretty ridiculous and you just don’t buy it.

I wished this wasn't a continuation from the first, especially when you notice the actors who voiced these characters sound much older, since this takes place immediately after the original. It would've been a lot better if it was set years later in a new time period, where more homages to campy superhero movies and TV shows, because around the 60’s or 70’s, the genre itself got more corny, but also gives Pixar more material to work on and have a creative spin on it. I know it may seem unfair to keep comparing this to the first, but this movie does everything it can to remind you of the first film, including plot points- So not really.

Oh and is it just me, or dose Catherine Keener character model looks exactly like Roxanne Ritchi from ‘Megamind’.

Overall rating: ‘Incredibles 2’ is a good movie and came out around the perfect time where superhero movies are bigger than ever. I can safely say it was worth the wait. Again, not quite as clever or excellent, although I am glad we finally got a sequel, good or bad.

I’ll see you in 25 years.… Expand

The switch of focus to Elastigirls perspective of crime fighting is welcome and the returning and new characters are charming. However there are a few gripes i have with it my main being how much of a continuation of the first film it felt like. It didn’t need to take 14 years to tell a story that was mildly predictable and had elements ripped straight out of the first film (a train heading straight for certain death, prejudice against supers) and there was cringe child dialogue that felt like it was from an Illumination Animation feature. HOWEVER this film is very fun and a blast to watch, Pixar is back on its winning streak.… Expand

I see people criticizing The Incredibles 2 for it's apparent “foul language” and for how “it's not suitable for smaller children.” In the first movie we literally see a man jump from a 10+ story, city building with the intent of taking hisI see people criticizing The Incredibles 2 for it's apparent “foul language” and for how “it's not suitable for smaller children.” In the first movie we literally see a man jump from a 10+ story, city building with the intent of taking his own life, for some reason that's better for your children than them hearing some characters using words like “damn” and “hell” in commonly used phrases; or the parents becoming so called “zombies” for a short time.
Are you kidding me? That is the most absurd criticism I ever heard and really goes to show how much people are sheltering their children nowadays.
I wouldn't even say this movie was “darker” than the first movie. If you go back and look at the fist films plot, it's about how superheros can't do what is morally right because of corporate heads who only care about money. This is dark in of itself. The start of this movie was almost the same as the first. Superheros who cant do their jobs get a random invitation to do superhero stuff again. This time, instead of Mr. Incredible doing all the superhero stuff Elastigirl gets the spotlight, while Mr. Incredible is at home babysitting the kids. The villain in this film is much weaker than Syndrome from the first movie. Syndrome had a pretty okay reason for wanting to do the bad stuff he did. Unlike the villain in this movie, who just came off very petty and pathetic.

Even the new superheros who were introduced didn't not play a well enough role in the movie. We barely saw them, let alone saw their powers used in a well enough fashion for them to be considered cool superhero characters like they should be.

I'd honestly say the best parts in this movie were when Mr. Incredible was trying to be the best dad he could be, by trying to fix his daughters relationship and taking care of Jack Jack.

The animation, colours, and everything visually was far, far superior of course but, unfortunately that was the only thing better about this than the first. That being said, was this a bad movie? No. Was it entertaining? Yes. I'm simply comparing it to the crazy standards the first movie was able to set and I don't think this movie was original enough or innovative enough to exceed those standards.… Expand

This is like Finding Dory to me. It made me think about my memories with The Incredibles, but this film doesn't have anything special. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I find it funny that most people are calling this most a feminist movie. I am neither a card carrying feminist, nor an activist in any way, but I thought is was the opposite of feminism. The bad guy was a the Fox News version of what a feminist is. She was single, sexually ambiguous, crafty, conniving, despised men, and despite being possibly the most brilliant mind on Earth, she was overshadowed by her idiot brother and hated the world...so, obviously, the successful, brilliant, gazillionaire woman couldn't be a hero. SHE was the enemy, facing off against the socially acceptable, Disney-version of proper feminism. Elasta-girl was the strong woman that needed to break out of the shadow of masculine heroes, while maintaining her role the traditional family. It felt like Disney was shoving its feminist message down my throat. Feminism is OK as long as it's safe and its practitioners stay within socially acceptable, Disney-approved boundaries. If there is a woman that rejects the trappings of the nuclear family and dare to be brilliant, not only outshining the men around her, but rising up to break through that glass ceiling to reject having to have a man in charge, then that person is inherently evil...and needs the proper feminist to put her in her place.

Looking closer at elasta-girl, I agree that she is in her own rights a nod in the right direction for feminism. It's just the fact that her character was used as a direct contrast the bad feminist that I have issue with. Disney makes a brilliant feint by showing feminism, while really trying to undermine it. The writers could have had a pro-feminist message where the two women actually worked together to make a super-awesome team that could hold their own against any threat...the strong and competent housewife and mother, teaming up with the corporate technical genius that would make Tony Stark envious. They could have developed a better bad guy for the two to face. They did not. They pit the two against each other.

What we got instead was a villain with overly nonsensical motivations. We got the well meaning, but bumbling dad tropes. We got the hyper-competent family matriarch tropes. The best villain in the movie was the raccoon. The best scenes were the Baby Jack Jack and raccoon scenes. All this to say, it was an enjoyable in not an entirely memorable movie. I just wish they would STOP calling it a feminist triumph.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Director Brad Bird once said that he wouldn't make a sequel to The Incredibles unless he had a "very good idea" and...Was this his good idea? I have mixed feelings about this movie, it's not a Cars 2 kind of sequel, it isn't that god-awful, but it is also not a Toy Story 2 or 3 kind of sequel, it's like Finding Dory, it's not a terrible movie, far from it but it doesn't do anything better than the first one, in fact, it's inferior to the original overall. This movie just played it SO safe.
I'm gonna discuss the good and the bad from this.

The Good:
-I didn't want to talk about the animation as amazing, cutting-edge animation is expected from Pixar, but I really liked the Screenslaver vs. Elastigirl fight, its visual style stands out from the rest of the movie (too bad the "visually stunning" part just lasts like 20 seconds).
-The action scenes were cool.
-For the most part, the jokes were funny, I actually had a good time at the theater when I saw it.

Notice how the best parts of the movie for me are just kind of superficial? Well...

The Bad:
-The story is just a rehash of the first one. Literally is the exact same story but with genders switched, you know, instead of Mr Incredible going into an adventure where he feels as he was the good-old Mr Incredible at its prime once again as it leaves the family at home it's now Elastigirl. Instead of being Mr. Incredible the one who gets captured by the villain and his family has now to rescue him is Elastigirl in this movie, and they have a big fight scene at the end where they save the city...You see my point, right? It's so lazy and predictable.
-The villain is so bad. I didn't see coming the twist of Evelyn actually being the Screenslaver, but that makes it bad, it seems like the writers just shoehorned in this twist to make the audience shock even though it doesn't make any sense, like...She is helping his brother to make superheroes legal again just so they become illegal again? If they are already illegal, why not leave it like that? Maybe her brother had the intention and she tried to stop her brother? I guess.
-The new characters are nothing special and wasted, those new superheroes had potential to become new and memorable characters, just like in a good sequel.
-Why write a clever joke when you can make a baby do "cute" things? I swear that 99% of the jokes are related to Jack Jack doing something, and while I laughed at some of them and I liked his fight with the raccoon, I think that they have do nothing for the plot.

While this is a decent movie, it's just that, a decent movie, it turned out to be just another superhero movie. I'm not "blinded by nostalgia" for calling this movie inferior to the original, I really think that this doesn't have what made the original movie so special. The first Incredibles movie had a better script, with way better jokes, with some serving as a satire of the superhero genre, it was self-aware and that's what made the humor so good, had a better developed villain whose motivation and goals are clear and aren't non-sensical, among other things. I enjoyed this movie, but that's it.… Expand

Where that film had an airtight plot, relatable/likable characters, and themes that will forever be timely warnings to all, the 2018 sequel takes several steps in the wrong direction. Much of the arcs in this film are repeats of the previous and the plot also is more or less a rehash of the first as well without the uniqueness of the spy-thriller setting. It’s less engaging, ignores its own continuity, relies on convenience to forward the plot, and brings in the plot device/toy seller that is Jack-Jack. While I wouldn’t say it’s unwatchable or even bad, the film is handled with a lot less care than the original.… Expand

“The Incredibles 2” is a decent sequel film that plays more of a side-kick roll to its predecessor when compared side by side. The overall presentation has difficulty landing, which can be attributed to a combination of muddled plot-lines, middling character development, and a scattered focus throughout the majority of the run time. While the narrative still succeeds in providing a reasonable level of entertainment, the film can best be described as a lukewarm experience when compared to the Parr family’s first outing.

Concerning the plot, the story’s focus feels like a game of “red-light, green-light” due in part to the awkward pacing between static scenes and moments of relevance. While it attempts to follow Helen Parr’s campaign to bring back Super’s after the family falls on hard times, it also tries to balance time with her husband Bob “Mr. Incredible” and their kids as they deal with awkwardly mundane, everyday issues. Unfortunately, this lack of cohesive focus in the overarching narrative makes the film feel more long and drawn out than it should be; dwelling on side-stories and rehashed character development that was covered reasonably in the first movie. Though the plot throws in a number of new faces, such as the mildly-eccentric Deavor’s and a small group of outcast Super’s, most are glossed over and exist solely for the sake of the scene they appear in. The big twist concerning the main antagonist is clever, albeit somewhat predictable, and offered a villainous master plan that was mixed parts ambitious and ludicrous; particularly the latter in how it was carried out. This led to a climax that felt forced and underwhelming, and was only salvageable by merit of the action sequences highlighting the entire family working together.

As for the characters, the original cast feels about the same as they were depicted in the first film, with a few caveats. Bob still does his best to protect his family, though he is also presented as being uncharacteristically conceited through the first half of film when Helen is chosen for the big P.R. project instead of him. Violet is also more abrasive in general, though it didn’t help matters that she was given the same arc that she already overcame in the first film. While Helen received a little more polish overall thanks to her larger presence in the spotlight, there were moments where her ego felt a bit more grating than was necessary. Similarly, Jack-Jack’s increase in screen time is only justified by the random shenanigans his powers create, which the film utilizes primarily for comedy and plot contrivance. Lastly, though antagonists Underminer and Screenslaver brought a balance of levity and tension, both seemed underutilized in the long run. For example, even though Screenslaver’s backstory is the sole purpose in turning them into the main threat like with Syndrome, there are levels of nuance surrounding the details of the mentioned past events which cheapen the strength of the argument. The most definitive point against the film, however, is its writing which often felt rushed and unfinished. While the first movie also had a number of events taking place simultaneously like this one, the overall focus was grounded and far easier to connect with. Cause and effect were key. In this movie, the family needs the P.R. gig because they can’t afford to move again, which only works because Helen is coincidentally chosen for it. This is already flawed from the first film, since the family was well-off financially thanks to Bob’s new “job”. Additionally, though it made logical sense for Bob to be disqualified from the P.R. project, no reason was given for why Frozone wasn’t selected. Finally, and most egregiously, is the family not knowing Jack-Jack had powers despite being able to clearly see them at the end of the first film. Since several key plot points have to occur from the family not knowing about them, this makes the story fall apart if the events that should have taken place are accounted for.

Altogether, despite the aforementioned negatives, “The Incredibles 2” isn’t a bad movie. A good amount of the humor lands, most of the action sequences are enjoyable, and the story is fairly engaging if no critical lens is applied and is taken with a grain of salt. At the end of the day, however, the film ultimately had the potential for greater praise if only some more care had been given to its overall construction.… Expand

The "plot twist" is not much of a twist; it was obvious since your first incident.

In essence, Incredibles 2 is an enjoyable Disney Channel Movie, with a premise not worth the length of a feature big screen film. The story is clearly a 90 minutes original stretched in production as far as possible to place all kind of viable items-to-become-toys surplus to the story.

Disney is becoming too cynical about their interest on making money over all possible instances (ahem, Finding Dory?) instead of being respectful with the public. It is not a bad film, but a dishonest product just like those x-ray glasses sold in old Marvel Comics: bad for you if you expected the real thing, we got your money anyway.… Expand

O enredo principal não é muito inovador, a queda dos heróis é algo visto, mas lá consegue trazer ao filme mais da mulher elástica- Por vezes o filme podia se chamar mulher elástica 2. Contudo o filme é bem desenvolvido e engraçado, focando um pouco nos problemas de todos e de forma expressa na forma como a mulher muitas vezes é vista mesmo pelo próprio marido, quando faz e torna-se mais importante que o homem.

Em suma, filma engraçado como já frisei mas que dada a minha idade não passa disso. :D… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Definitely NOT one for the smaller children. Two days later my 8-year-old is still having concerns at bedtime. A lot of parents on the boards complain about the foul language but that is the least of my worries (my wife didn't notice it) but when kids see their parents turned into "zombies" and are left alone in the world (a child's biggest fear) then this ceases to be Disney fare and becomes a different sort of movie. Definitely PG-13, I'd say keep 'em away if they're under 12. Lots of violence, lots of parents being blown away (off-screen).… Expand

I had high hopes this would at least match the original masterpiece which is one of the greatest superhero/family films made with its enduring characters and themes that deconstructed the modernity of family life through Randian objectivism of its era. However, this trash film is basically a rehash of the original with little plot and one of the most subpar villain ever put on screen. Whilst there are some good laughs and the quality of the voice acting and animation is pushed further, the non-sensical plot, snail-pace pacing with the most boring A-B storyline and rehashed moments, puts this sequel as one of the worst and most disappointing film of all time. Its a shame Pixar has seemingly been dumbed down ever since Disney has purchased it. It makes me fear what Toy Story 4 will end up being after this garbage-trash tier film.… Expand

I always loved The Incredibles, having originally seen it twice in theaters, something rare for me, because it met my peak of superpower fascination as a twelve-year-old. Today as a film studies undergrad, I continue to cherish how it retellsI always loved The Incredibles, having originally seen it twice in theaters, something rare for me, because it met my peak of superpower fascination as a twelve-year-old. Today as a film studies undergrad, I continue to cherish how it retells classic familiar superhero tropes through a bleak commentary on legitimate discrimination at a time of nuclear threat. Second to Toy Story, it stands as my favorite Pixar motion picture. So right when Pixar announced this sequel, I knew it would become nothing more than unnecessary, lazy fan service.

Turns out I guessed correctly.

Now I shall go on to explain why I hated The Incredibles 2: Rather than realistic revision of classic comic book tropes, it embraces them, right down to the villain’s predictable secret identity. Unfortunately, it goes beyond mere unoriginality; more like serious inconsistency. I mean, hero work is said to remain illegal, except how did this family of supers steer clear past prison bars three months after destroying Syndrome’s Omnidroid v.10? Even more noticeable, the family’s lack of knowledge about Jack-Jack’s powers until about midway through the film contradicts the previous feature’s climax.

I’ve voiced before serious disdain towards superhero flicks, but I do believe it can be done right with the right level of care. Heck, fourteen years ago; besides SpongeBob, my favorite show was Teen Titans--I even made each new episode an event by dragging my Dad into watching them all with me (since I thought he might have enjoyed it too). Those fantastical beings’ characterizations were consistent, instead of carelessly thrown around like here.

Plus, it also contradicts its own message. The main villain, “Screenslaver,” says TV stops our communication, with no thanks to supers, yet here these screenwriters go freely celebrating supers on a giant screen! On a personal level, Bob lies to his wife without facing punishment, making him less sympathetic. At a deeper level, a hollow liberal “Make All Supers Legal Again” act drives the key narrative without ever addressing the real meat of the discrimination issue it attempts to talk about.

You may think, “Hey! It’s written AND directed by Brad Bird… who gave us the first addition!” Well, remember Tomorrowland? Keep anticipating his eventual comeback folks. Just like that George Clooney embarrassment three years ago, miniscule originality comes out of his newest project, he rather just copies other iconic comic book movie scenes. One example: an early action sequence copies Spider-Man 2’s train stopping to far weaker results. Another example: the villain’s key weapon, mind control, has been overdone to death in other superhero plots.

Okay, pop quiz: what do kids love to watch more than anything?

A) Intellectually stimulating educational programs.
B) A Mister Rogers documentary.
C) Julia, the first autistic Muppet.

The answer:

D) A baby fighting a raccoon bandit.

Jack-Jack’s screen time tops Dash or Violet combined, who unlike the baby go through growing pains necessary to the story. Consequently, Jack-Jack turns each sad moment suddenly funny under a surface-level Marvel mentality that hurts the entire viewing experience.

Although to be fair, it’s understandable why most people love this sequel to The Incredibles. The foul script’s blame shouldn’t go on the reprising voice actors, since Holly Hunter does act well through her vocal work to match Elastigirl’s new exhilaration of feeling fifteen years younger, while Craig T. Nelson delivers a fantastic common core joke perfectly. Beyond the voices, there is some value here and there, such as Bob’s amends to become a good pop, and a memorable spectacle that pits Elastigirl against someone inside a brainwashing room, six walls blaring hypnotic swirls, her eyes closed for the whole fight. Violet also gets a fair share of great hand-to-hand combat worth her pre-established adolescent problems. Though Dash doesn’t do much other than attempt math homework, possibly to make his feeble motivations less obvious.

Like the imbalance between the attention of the characters, the odd arrangement of the two subplots between the mother and father rattles both by a choppy tone, building up to a forgetful visual-driven climax. From the first act, Helen’s growth literally falls back at square one; her letting Dash and Violet help still raises her skeptic fear as if nothing happened since the first movie. It barely can even be called quality family entertainment: some dialogue says the word, “damn.” Inappropriate for a PG rating!

If anything, the hopping lamp company’s gradual downfall into sequel madness only made me further appreciate their older works. We deserve better than an ingenuine nostalgia commercial. Sorry.… Expand

It has its moments, but overall, I felt it was a low-grade script you'd expect from some teletoons serial episode. Not memorable.… Expand

It’s insane to be voting this film 10/10! It’s a very average film AT BEST that carries little weight when compared to the first with way to much focus placed on Jack-Jack in a very obvious attempt to sell merchandise and toys! This film has a lower average and a lower all around score on RT than other films I’ve checked in the same average score range yet here it’s rated at 80 while other films that have gotten both a higher average and higher percentage on RT have a lower rating here! It’s very clear that Metacritic picks and chooses what reviews it wants for films it wants to promote as can easily be seen with some films having 50+ reviews to cover up a bad one bad review while others have much higher reviews but are limited in the 40’s to keep the average down! Shame on those of you who are running this scam, not everyone is so easily fooled! This how films like Moana who have an all around worse RT score and lower average score are listed as “Universally Acclaimed” while films like Zootopia who won practically every single award, (including a Oscar), has a higher RT score, a higher average score, was among AFI’s top 10 movies of 2016 (the only animated film and a very rare honor) and was hailed as one of the best animated films of all time by multiple critics is rated as just average here! I, like everyone else, loved the first movie and couldn't wait for this sequel. After seeing the trailer i was a bit worried that the plot wasn't going to be very interesting, however, the original trailer for incredibles 1 was awful too, soI, like everyone else, loved the first movie and couldn't wait for this sequel. After seeing the trailer i was a bit worried that the plot wasn't going to be very interesting, however, the original trailer for incredibles 1 was awful too, so i wasn't too worried. Unfortunately the trailers were correct this time, the plot of this movie is simply terrible. Despite taking place literal seconds after the first film, none of the characters have seemed to have grown or progressed from the beginning of the first. The flaws they all had at the start of incredibles 1, are all still issues in this film. The only real difference is mr incredible and Elastigirl have had their roles reversed for no real reason. The one story line i enjoyed was with bob struggling to look after his children and be "incredible" as he is expected to be. Its just a shame that is never looked into deeper. It would be far more interesting to spend some more time developing his character to come to grips with the fact he cant always fix everything, or solve every problem, but instead its resolved by the next scene. Turning back to the plot, the motivations of the villain make no sense, at all. It doesn't help the villain is also extremely boring and extremely predictable. The character of syndrome in the first film makes this film feel like it was written by a child, and outside of the quality of it's animation, this film really has nothing going for it. 3/10 - Needed a whole plot rewrite to even be worth making :(… Expand

You see a gender swap here where Helen becomes the big hero and Bob is now the stay at home dad dealing with Jack Jack's developing powers (probably the only funny thing about this movie), Violent's typical teenage girl problems and Dash just kind of chilling and not really doing much all film other than an occasional one-liner.

So yeah, All in all, this film suffers from some pretty terrible writing that tanks it. Kind of wish they'd stop doing sequels because they just don't even compare to the original for a majority of the time.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay, so, you thought Incredibles 2 was a good movie? You thought it was as good, or better than the first. Maybe you even thought it was just "okay." I'd like to make a few points that I believe more or less deny any hopes of Incredibles 2 ever being solidified as a classic alongside The Incredibles, or even hope to be believed to be a good movie. I'm going to get a bit of a pet peeve out of the way before moving on into the bigger points. These don't really affect the quality of the film by themselves, but on top of the others, they just sort of throw salt in the wound. First off, it's not *The Incredibles 2*, it's just Incredibles 2. For some reason, they decided to stray from *The Incredibles* to just *Incredibles 2*. Just sort of a pet peeve. With that out of the way, I'm going to move on to some more egregious errors. My first frustration with this film is the seemingly sudden personality changes for certain characters, most notably Violet, but Dash and Elastigirl/Helen also have different traits than the original classic. Violet seems to have changed from a shy, sweet teen to a super angsty teen. You could claim that this was due to the events of the first film, but it doesn't really make sense that'd she go from her original personality to this seemingly different person. She was clearly more confident and open by the end of The Incredibles, but not angry and angsty. Helen is another example of seemingly unexplained characterization switching. In the first film, she was very hesitant to get into hero work, and chastised Mr. Incredible/Bob whenever he did illegal hero work. However, she's immediately ready to jump on this illegal hero train, and despite trying to hide it, actually is clearly enjoying it. Where did this sudden adrenilene feuled thirst for illegal hero work come from?
Dash has experienced something of a *non-characterization* approach in this film. He is there seemingly for no reason, and he does basically nothing throughout the film. He just runs around and does things that get into mischief. A problem similarly found with Jack-Jack. Whom I also hate in this film.
Mr. Incredible/Bob seems to have gone through what I call the **Lightning Mcqueen** effect. In the Cars franchise, the movies follow a very similar formula. We open the film by seeing Mcqueen act like an a-hole, he goes through something, then by the end of the movie he is no longer an a-hole. Lather, rinse, repeat. Unfortunately, they seem to have taken this route with The Incredibles. By the end of The Incredibles, he has learned the values of family (as cheesy as it sounds), and has saved both his reputation, and we're lead to believe the reputation of supers is rather high. Now, we follow him go from an arragont a-hole, to learning the values of family and seemingly the reputation of supers *again*. Which leads me into my next point: this movie is just a lesser repeat of the original. It reuses plot points, character archs, and "plot twists," from the original. We reuse the dislike of supers, and end with the the re-introduction of supers into the world. **Now you could say that they didn't end the first film with re-introduction, but that is what you are lead to believe has happened.* It reuses, as mentioned above, Bob's character arch. It reuses a surprise not surprise villain reveal. And yes, that is a total recycled concept, because to be fair, it was super easy to predict the villain of The Incredibles. Speaking of villains, the villain in Incredibles 2 is one of the most *generic, boring, stupid* villains I've seen in a long time. One of the worst parts of Screenslaver/Evelyn is that she doesn't provide a believable backstory. Being as intelligent as she is, you'd think that she'd understand that Supers weren't the cause of her dad's death. Because of the backstory provided by her and her brother, we are immediately dragged out of believabilty for this story because of how much depends on this terrible backstory. One of the things that made the original film so good was that we both understand where Syndrome is coming from, and can actually empathize with him, and if he weren't evil, maybe we'd even side with him at times. One of the problems with Incredibles 2 is that it has such a legacy to live up to. The orignal had such ~~incredible~~ dark themes throughout it, such as the failing mairage between Bob and Helen, dozens of murders, and actual child murder. It was a action drama with certain humorous bits scattered throughout. Incredibles 2 takes a complete 180 from that. It decides it wants to be a family comedy, while still trying to be edgy. One of the biggest examples of this is the huge emphasis on Jack-Jack. This movie wastes so much time on long sequences of Jack-Jack mischief. Sure, there are moments throughout these sequences that could be funny. But there is an over-saturation of it throughout the film, and it kills both the flow and pace. However, in an era of examination of roles, tropes, and stereotypes men haven't had their fair shake yet. We need a Men's movement in the best sense of the word.… Expand
