This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am taking off many points for this movie due to the fact that once again Disney pushes its' woke agenda into this film. I really wanted to love this movie but the politics in the movie really got to me. The cast was good and I enjoyed the cast but there were politics in the movie that really bothered me. Why can't they leave kids films alone? Aren't kids already confused enough as it is? Expand

I mean the first one was released when I was 3 years old, and I think I saw it for the first time when I was 9. So, almost 30 years later, what is Hocus Pocus 2 looking for?
I think it tries to survive on the basis of nostalgia, and this can be a great ally or an immeasurable enemy, and I think both results will be part of this film's outcome when it comes to the audiences. Old and new.

I for one found nothing to enjoy and therefore will omit its existence and, in any circumstance, will only mention the original. I guess that's my sin of nostalgia.

Instead of compelling interesting characters it's diversity and promoting "the message". They used the same old jokes and made all the men goofballs or mean ol racists lol. It's trash. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Couldn't even make it 15 minutes in. The actors were pretty good at portraying younger Sanderson Sisters, but the cast for the main was awful. Poorly written and uninteresting characters. Badly introduced with absolutely n background given for anything. This was the biggest disappointment from Disney since the Loki show. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Meh. Can Disney just keep this a classic!? Literally if I could give 0 stars I would. This does not compare to the OG hocus pocus at all…no suspense, no drama, and no love story to follow. The OG was comedic, hilarious and had a love story to follow along with the music! This was just Disney trying too hard to "fit in" with the crowd and not creating an amazing movie like it should be. Come on…they had 30 years to write up a good story line. Whoever wrote this story line should be fired ASAP. This was such a boring disappointment and another Lightyear movie that was a complete waste of time, a waste of time for sure, and Disney tried wayyyy too hard to compete with "modern society" that it ended up biting them in the ass. I will never add this to my Halloween list of movies for the season. Such a waste and a disappointment. This movie is terrible. I really wish the Sanderson sisters studied how they were in the OG film and copied how they were in 1993. The OG had drama, love, and characters who were silly and awesome. They created suspense, excitement & a thriller that will forever be loved in the homes of many throughout the season. This 2022 version of Hocus Pocus 2 was such a flop and a disappointment…do not waste your time on this movie. Expand

This movie had so much hype and fell flat. I had to muster up the courage to finish the movie because it was that bad. The CG is good and story makes kind of sense but they never should have made this sequel. They also leave it open for a 3rd movie.

Although I don’t like admitting this but the Sanderson Sisters probably should have stayed dead, instead they came back for a sequel that’s a heavy dose of nostalgia and not much else.

On Halloween night, during a full moon, two young women accidently bring back the Sanderson Sisters (again) to modern day Salem. They now need to find a way to stop the wicked witches before they feed on children and get revenge on the town of Salem. Yes that all sounds familiar doesn’t it? Well it should, because rather than try something new with Hocus Pocus it’s the same idea done again only worse.

Despite a very promising opening sequence featuring the Sanderson Sisters as children, Hocus Pocus 2 descends into an unfunny, heartless sequel that only reminds you at how much better the first one is, and that wasn’t exactly a masterpiece to begin with. It really is the exact same thing done again only with enough unfunny jokes stuffed into it you’ll either die of cringe or your eyes will roll into the back of your head and stay there forever. With the original there was at least the feeling that the Sanderson Sisters were a genuine threat to people but with Hocus Pocus 2 there’s none of that. They’re just blundering their way through Salem while not understanding how the modern world works….hilarious.

Sure it’s great they got most of the original cast back, Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, Sarah Jessica Parker. They’re all back including the fabulous Doug Jones as Billy Butcherson. Also added to the cast is Hannah Waddingham (yes you do know who she is, look her up) who I have to say was criminally underused. You don’t get Hannah Waddingham to only use her for five minutes. What a missed opportunity. The younger actors cast to play Winne, Sarah and Mary in Salem were spot on, that whole sequence was the best thing about this sequel and I probably would have enjoyed it if the whole film was like that. Why do a sequel if it’s just the same idea redone badly when a perfectly good origin story was right there? Madness, and another missed opportunity.

Hocus Pocus 2 completely relies on nostalgia and sure look it worked, I ended up watching it, and nostalgia always sells. But the story is weak, the jokes don’t land and the musical numbers certainly don’t work. Even with all that being said, the original Hocus Pocus was financially a flop at the box office when it first opened (seriously who decided to release it during the Summer?). It only gained its popular cult status afterwards and myself and many of you probably watched it every Halloween on TV for years. For that reason we all have fond memories of Hocus Pocus so who’s to say how popular this sequel will be in twenty years. The younger generation will probably enjoy it, and if it does indeed do well with streaming viewers don’t be surprised if yet another sequel appears.

There’s plenty of decent horror movies to indulge on this Halloween but if you need something a little less scary then you might be better off with the original Hocus Pocus instead. Hocus Pocus 2 is recommended for anyone looking to entertain their kids with a Halloween movie that isn’t going to give them any nightmares.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. All I can say is stick with the original for Halloween movie nights with the family. My wife and I couldn't even get half way through this movie without feeling bored. One positive aspect of this movie is the actresses playing the Sanderson Sisters, they did an awesome job as always. As for the rest of the cast I couldn't really care for them. But there is so much a cast can do with bad writing.
First of all what really just annoys me, that this doesn't feel like a movie about evil witches, there's no fear element that the witches are after everyone's children like in the first movie. NO, it's all about going after the Mayor who looks like a reincarnation of the Salem Towns Old Reverend. Just feels pointless. Also, you think in a sequel we would see the original cast of characters come back like Max, Dani and Allison, nope not at all.
I'm going to leave at this, for Halloween Movie nights with the family, stick with the original. I feel that Disney is loosing more and more creativity with these remakes and reboots.

The kid actors they chose for this aren't great and it just seems to Disney plush-ish and that's probably why it didn't get theatrical release. Disney know it's not great and anyone who grew up watching the OG knows this isn't even close or even on par with the OG, you can tell they were scared to get into all the stuff they did in the 90s. It's an horrible sequel that doesn't come close to the feel of the original.

Pointless and unfunny sequel
I really enjoyed the first hocus pocus film that released nearly 30 years ago. However, the 2022 sequel is not nearly as interesting or exciting as the original film or any other film. Everything presented in the film just seems very unnecessary and random. The song sequences feel like they were cut short and the special effects were underwhelming. The 3 main teenagers in the film felt thrown in and also very random and not a lot of backstory were given to them. I just couldn't find any meaning or reason to this film other than it was just made to get more subscribers for the Disney channel streaming platform. I don't recommend the hocus pocus 2 (2022) not worth the wait!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you’re a Hocus Pocus fan, DO NOT watch this film unless you want to be disappointed. I was seriously and surprisingly let down with this movie. I read the book & this movie had maybe 10% of the book’s content in it. The characters were all changed around. And the most disappointing part was that there was no mention at all of Max, Dani, or Allison. The main character was supposed to be Max & Allison’s daughter Poppy. And there was a strong teen lesbian love story involving Poppy that was basically ignored. This part offended me the most as a member of the queer/LGBTQIA+ community. I felt like the makers wanted to focus on the Sanderson sisters more and create the usual sugary sweet story of bonds of friendship being the most important thing. While true, it was not exactly what the book centered on. The only former characters extremely briefly mentioned were Emily & Thackery Binx. The book was darker but had a lot more action in it. Had Disney & the makers of this film stuck true to the original story (which is a must read for real Hocus Pocus fans) this movie could have been a spectacular success instead of the epic failure it ended up being. I recommend seriously skipping this film & reading the book instead to find out what really happened with the Sanderson sisters when they came back again 25 years later. Expand

Not bad but super lackluster compared to the original!
It lacked sincerity and feeling. In fact, I didn't feel much of anything throughout except frustration. Whereas the first one made me laugh and cry the whole way through, this one was really ho-hum, except for the very end- and I only laughed once!
Like I said, there is a feeling of insincerity to this one. It's basically a parody of itself, whereas the original feels like a genuine classic. And a lot of the stuff in this felt forced and just annoying.
Also, no Max, Dani, or Allison in this one, and I was really looking forward to their return!
Glad I watched, but overall, a letdown and super lame.
