I wanted more at every turn. All that was delivered was more of the same...tame. Not enough Danger and sick carnage and sleez for a Hellraiser reboot. On a positive note it wasn't a complete bore.

Eliminating this point gives the story nothing to move forward toward. It just makes it another slasher film. Expand

To say it's better than most of the other sequels after the third installment doesn't really mean much. The truth is that it means nothing. And anyone who says otherwise is fooling themselves.

The problem with this version of Hellraiser is the same problem that plagued all the other awful sequels. There is nothing left to tell with this kind of characters and plot.

Yes, maybe horror fans will gloat over the gore and violence that has always been part of these stories, but there is nothing to be gained watching it.
The existence of this film adds nothing to the franchise regardless of what it does better, for the very reason that it carries that stench of mediocrity.

It's not an option that I would rule out if you're interested, both for the franchise and the genre, but I reiterate that this film has nothing new to contribute.

The first twenty minutes is really intriguing and creepy, but the tension is lost long before the end. Goran Visnjic is really good but the main characters are bland, stupid and unlikeable, the gore is well done but it's not scary, the set design is great as are some of the environment transformation effects but generally the film is too brightly lit. Entertaining enough to finish but I wouldn't really recommend it. Expand

It had some good moments, but yet again hollywood wokeism is at work here in the beginning, with the cast and male gay characters. The first 30 minutes of this was completely unnecessary and only appeals to woke culture. As far as the rest of the film, the gore wasn't all that much. There was flesh being peeled, hooks, and all the regular stuff you'd expect from this franchise. Nothing original here except for some new cenobites. The ending was pretty garbage. Didn't care for the new female pinhead. She wasn't nearly as intimidating as Bradley's pinhead, and is very forgettable. Still, it's a decent one time watch and nothing more. Expand

As always in modern Hollywood, in a movie with around seven important characters, three have to fit the muh agenda. Also, addiction is treated like a joke. Considering the suicide rate and od rate in this country you'd think they'd maybe be less tone deaf to the real pain people are suffering from. So the good, the gore is inventive and the cenobytes as always are interesting. Keeping in mind there were some very bad Hellraiser films this one is better than many.
I don't love the "female" Pinhead. Let me explain why. The male Pinhead had a powerful booming voice. However, the new Pinhead has to have voice affects on her voice every line she says. It's a little distracting. Besides that she has good presence. The red dress was a bit much, I'd like to see her in something more balanced if there are sequels.

This film has dripped new blood over the decrepit, rotting corpse of the franchise... but it's not enough to restore Hellraiser to its former devilish glory.

From the reimagined looks of the cenobites to some fantastic set designs and world-bending effects, David Bruckner gets many things right in this latest offering to Leviathan. However, a thoroughly unlikeable protagonist, mediocre acting, and far too many plot contrivances further lessen a relatively bloodless (by Hellraiser standard) and predictable film. At one point, the film broke it's own logic, "taking artistic liberties" with ideas straight out of Wes Craven's A Nightmare On Elm Street franchise.

Despite its flaws, Hellraiser 2022 nudges the franchise in the right direction. While it's not the balls-out reinvigoration many may have hoped for, it stands out above the other sequels. It's a middle-of-the-road horror movie that's enjoyable enough for Halloween parties with friends. 6/10.

Some very bloody and graphic moments. I enjoyed getting a little bit more sense of the lore and purpose of it all. The horror aspects felt pretty thin, some cool new cenobite design but fairly under utilized on the whole.

Where it fails is the Cenobites close up, they are not as good as the original cenobites, Pinhead in particular has no where near the presence of the original Pinhead... They come off more like custodians of hell rather than Demons. They are just doing their job etc but from distance they remind you of the old Cenobites and bring back the dread.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While it is a nice reboot, I feel as if the beginning in middle were almost too slow. The middle dragging out the most where there almost felt like no plot until the obvious signs of an ending. The additional lore was nice and felt creative and the callbacks to the original felt well placed and respectful. The twists were not really great as I feel it was unneeded and could've been better without. Additionally, the appearance of the Cenobites were amazing with them reusing the designs of the original series. The Labyrinthine aesthetics were very honest and stuck true to the original to the point nothing really changed but, in my opinion, was a good thing. If it's not broken, don't fix it and it even looked better!

Finally, I think it was overall a decent reboot considering the original and what it had to work with. I'd suggest this movie to a friend or family member, but I personally wouldn't say "You have to see this!" overall I enjoyed myself but had to gawk at the more awkward moments.

Hellraiser is the next horror franchise to get a reboot. I kind of expected it to be awful but was pleasantly surprised by the film.

The Cenobites, who are the real stars of this film, look frightening and creepy which is great! Jamie Clayton is the new Pinhead/Priest and she does a phenomenal job. She steals every scene she is in and is truly intimidating. I love the direction of every scene with the Cenobites as well. The director uses creepy set designs and lighting to make the Cenobites feel unsettling. I'm appreciative that the director doesn't use jump scares for the Cenobites. I do have an issue with the movie and that is I think the movie is a bit too restrained in terms of plot and kills. The kills are also kind of fun to watch but it does certainly feel a bit tame in terms of gore. Another issue I have is the human characters. They're not very likeable or interesting. I found it difficult to root for the main characters and I certainly didn't care when a side character died either. Other than that, it's a surprisingly good reboot and I wouldn't mind a sequel for this.

If this wasn't another film that forced the queer agenda onto 98% of the population, it would have been better.
