Horror movie made in 2022, which was made a new cycle but failed to become a classic. The characters in the last episode are like a comedy element. The characters in the last episode are like a comedy element. I am constantly wondering how far it will continue with the same subject. The only good thing about the movie is that Christopher Young's soundtrack played in the first and second episodes is also included in this episode. Yes, I've wished for this before. But with a good finale, I wished. I think the movie's rating is so high. It is impossible for this movie to get 6 points. 6 points means almost good for a horror movie. This movie is not good. If you ask an ordinary person to write a script for the Hellraiser movie, whose outlines are clear, it will produce such a scenario in the worst case. Also, when you look at the relationships in the movie, one wonders if it's a Netflix production. I end with the words of a teacher. "No, sit down, zero"

There is sexuality and nudity in the movie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It starts out strong, then steadily slides into boring, silly, and stupid. A bunch of characters we don't necessarily care about running around yelling at each other while Cenobites patiently wait around for gates to open and close. The most disappointing aspect of the film, though, must be the makeup design. Though aesthetically intricate, none of the Cenobites look at all intimidating, or as though the torments wrought upon their flesh were, like, painful. Rather, they come across as elaborate plastic action figures. Not to mention the pearl-tipped pins, which never failed to elicit a chuckle. Every good idea in the film is in someway cribbed from the original or its sequel, and every bad idea -- and there are many -- is unique to this version. Note to screenwriters: If I don't care what happens to the characters, then the rest of the movie doesn't matter, okay? Expand

But no, this is actually a terrible film. The main character is just pure annoying who literally never makes a good decision. "Plot twists" include people simply falling when running away, and more bad decision horror tropes. Oh a dark dungeon door is opening while we're in a mostly haunted house, why not go in all alone to take a look around, without even telling anybody? The last 15-20 minutes is actually OK, but the rest I had to watch on 1.5x speed. The whole movie is just lame, it does not offer anything more than a noname C-category 90s horror flick. No bright ideas or creativity of any sort, no mind-bending. And I really don't remember... biting from the previous movies. Expand

The cenobites were all too similar looking and lacked unique, creative designs to make each one stand out. Pinhead, played by trans actress Jamie Clayton, is arguably the second worst version of the character (beaten only by the Pinhead from Revelations). With an awful effect on her voice, You felt no sense of intimidation or that this was the leader, the one to truly fear of the cenobites. Instead, It felt like they pulled a cosplayer off the street and had her stand in place.

As for the rest of the characters, They're too blandly written to care about. They're given too little to say or do to feel properly developed. And the cast doesn't help matters either with the need to over-act even the simplest things. The story itself is fine but the twist is a little too predictable and the only thing truly satisfying about it is the ending, even though it was still a tad bit cliche.

I truly went into this with an open mind but honestly, I preferred the previous reboot (Judgement) over this. This one was as copy and paste as you could possibly get, At least Judgement tried to be something different and for the most part succeeded. As a long-time fan of the franchise, I wouldn't recommend it at all. There are much better sequels in the series than this.

This not-quite-reboot, not-quite-sequel, not-quite-reimagining lacks the creativity, insanity and the no-f***s-given attitude of the first two Hellraisers. Characters are uninteresting, their motives are weak, the main villain Voight is bland, not even remotely as memorable as Channard, the Cenobites are too stylized and de-sexualized, therefore they are not as unnerving as in the original two movies. This Nu Hellraiser is too scared to do anything even remotely out-of-the-box, so it sticks close to horror conventions and cliches, instead of pushing the boundaries.

Overall, while better than the sequels that came after Hellbound, it's still a big disappointment.

They will also attack people that did not even touch the box. Those alone makes this a failure. But the bad acting, writing, and directing all contribute to drag it a bit lower. People do not even bother bleeding when the director forgot about it, or decided that a major wound only bleeds for the first three seconds. With the removal of greed/desire driving the solution to the box being a major factor in summoning the cenobites, this loses a lot of the franchise's draw. Also, when the configurations can be solved super easily, such as when two people are just tugging on it a bit, the puzzle nature is completely lost.

Metacritic is blocking discussion about a certain character, and I have to keep it vague or the review will never post. The major downside to the charcter is that they do not have the presence that the previous actor had, and that the director could not be bothered to add in some vocal FX to make them more menacing. But those are pet peeves compared to the rest of the issues. It just adds to the lack of menace that the new cenobites have.

To say it's better than most of the other sequels after the third installment doesn't really mean much. The truth is that it means nothing. And anyone who says otherwise is fooling themselves.

The problem with this version of Hellraiser is the same problem that plagued all the other awful sequels. There is nothing left to tell with this kind of characters and plot.

Yes, maybe horror fans will gloat over the gore and violence that has always been part of these stories, but there is nothing to be gained watching it.
The existence of this film adds nothing to the franchise regardless of what it does better, for the very reason that it carries that stench of mediocrity.

It's not an option that I would rule out if you're interested, both for the franchise and the genre, but I reiterate that this film has nothing new to contribute.

Dialogue is forgettable, plot is a jagged mess, most acting is entry level acting school quality, the main characters are forgettable, to list a few negatives. There are a few moments of gore that are entertaining, and some of the cenobite makeup is above average effort, but they do not incite much fright. The last scene in the movie is, by far, the best, and it is a shame the rest of the movie is not on par with it. Seems too much effort was spent on appeasing a woke agenda checklist, not much attention on writing, or hiring decent actors. As is, Hellraiser 1 and 2 are still the vastly superior films in the series. I can only recommend Hellraiser 2022 as a one-time viewing if you are really bored, and desperate for a new horror film to view. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. God awful, this is the most boring horror movie I have ever watched. How do you make Hellraiser boring? This made me appreciate the it's so bad it's good Jeepers Creepers Reborn, I can at least laugh and cringe at it. It's so boring I kept checking to see how much time was left. 2 hours and nothing to say. If I had to guest this movie was directed by a special effects artist, because that's the only thing done right. Annoying characters yelling nonstop giving me migraines that aren't developed enough to where you care about them, 50 minutes in and only 3 deaths, and a simple plot unnecessarily stretched out for no reason whatsoever(30 minutes could have been cut).
TLDR: Awesome special effects/cool looking ceno bites, and everything is weak or horrible.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Being a huge fan, I was looking forward to this remake. I thought the new pinhead was very well done, also the scenes were set up very well. Unfortunately most the remaining cast looks like they came from magazine ads & various tv commercials. No realistic appearing people with any resemblance of a genuine real world human being. Just boring cookie cutter characters with some woke-ness sprinkled in. Dialog and storyline wasn’t any better. A small twist at the end which is easy to predict part way through isn’t enough to save the movie. Pinhead and the cenobites carry this film. The lead girl does her best to work with the crappy writing and is the only halfway relatable character. The rest is pretty much Hollywood commercialized redundant trash. Expand

It is a cult classic and Pinhead one of the classic monsters. Those movies deserve their place in the all-time classics, although the acting in those movies was imho sub-par and as I recently rewatched them, I find the movie didn't age well in some departments (acting/sfx/logic). This one is a proper re-imagining and I really liked most of the movie. It really has a modern feel, acting is pretty good, especially Pinhead (voice, costume) is A+. Some of the characters were forgettable, didn't have a lot to do and for a 2 hour movie could have been more fleshed out (whoops). I didn't really care for the brother or the Nan-Lady. Everything about the mythos of the puzzle box and Pinhead was very much on point, I wished it would have been a bit gorier, was a bit tame, if I may say so. Hoping for a sequel. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. felt like more a sequel to the original than any of the other "sequels" actually did. and the casting was actually well done. A cenobite, played by a trans person actually makes sense to the lore, so people really shouldn't score low for that.

the story could have been better, but I'm hopeful a sequel may dive more into the cenobite lore, and universe.

the gore scenes were toned WAY WAY too far down. I know this is essentially a Disney flick, but this is Hellraiser. with today's special effects, I was very let down with how softcore the gore was, not that I expected gore porn, but this isn't even on the level with other slasher/horror productions of the current era.

step up the actual horror and gore, and deeper writing and you'll have something lasting.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This entry expands the mythology in a really compelling way with a touch of the monkey's paw/wishmaster with desires being fulfilled in twisted ways. There is also an expanded mythology around 6 distinct configurations of the box and 6 different wishes one can be granted after 6 different sacrifices.

The acting was good all around. The lead was particularly good. This may have some of the best acting in any Hellraiser film.

I wasn't thrilled with the new cenobite designs. They're not bad. But they're not an improvement either. Also, there's too much CGI for my liking. That being said, I liked the set designs and the clever ways they created interdimensional doorways... that was a nice touch!

At the end of the day, this is best installment in this series in over 2 decades even if I didn't care for the cenobites' designs or the cgi.

It is explicit, yet, I have seen much gore in some action movies. It is somewhat a caricature at times but that's ok. The music was fine. The sound effects could have been more exploited. The camera angles were too conventional at times. I give it 70%. This isn't the best in horror but it did provide some good moments of it. Maybe it deserve a follow up. Expand

As always in modern Hollywood, in a movie with around seven important characters, three have to fit the muh agenda. Also, addiction is treated like a joke. Considering the suicide rate and od rate in this country you'd think they'd maybe be less tone deaf to the real pain people are suffering from. So the good, the gore is inventive and the cenobytes as always are interesting. Keeping in mind there were some very bad Hellraiser films this one is better than many.
I don't love the "female" Pinhead. Let me explain why. The male Pinhead had a powerful booming voice. However, the new Pinhead has to have voice affects on her voice every line she says. It's a little distracting. Besides that she has good presence. The red dress was a bit much, I'd like to see her in something more balanced if there are sequels.

This film has dripped new blood over the decrepit, rotting corpse of the franchise... but it's not enough to restore Hellraiser to its former devilish glory.

From the reimagined looks of the cenobites to some fantastic set designs and world-bending effects, David Bruckner gets many things right in this latest offering to Leviathan. However, a thoroughly unlikeable protagonist, mediocre acting, and far too many plot contrivances further lessen a relatively bloodless (by Hellraiser standard) and predictable film. At one point, the film broke it's own logic, "taking artistic liberties" with ideas straight out of Wes Craven's A Nightmare On Elm Street franchise.

Despite its flaws, Hellraiser 2022 nudges the franchise in the right direction. While it's not the balls-out reinvigoration many may have hoped for, it stands out above the other sequels. It's a middle-of-the-road horror movie that's enjoyable enough for Halloween parties with friends. 6/10.

I can get it where people who are die hard fans take issue with changes to the lore and theme or whatever. I don't remember liking the original all that much so I guess I'm not the target demo. I don't think anyone is srupid for disliking it unlike Last Jedi fans. I just hope it's not for the wrong reasons (based on the Pinhead recast) Expand

The characters are interesting and memorable, the story interesting and engaging. It adds to the lore of the series and compliments the originals. Acting and directing is excellent. Sound design is beyond excellent, cinematography is great. This has to be the best remake/reboot/requel over! I’m surprised that Hellraiser hasn’t had one before, especially consider that Halloween (1978) and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) have 3 each so far (Halloween (2007), Halloween (2018), Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998), Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), Texas Chainsaw (2013)). And they are all worse than this Hellraiser reboot/remake/requel. Much as I really enjoyed this film there are some slight disappointments. It is not as good as the first two in the franchise, Hellraiser (1987) and Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988) are truly excellent so this had a high bar to beat. This one is entirely set on earth, we don’t get to see much of the other dimension that the creatures come from. It is not as horrific or graphic as the original and its sequel. The Cenobites don’t seem as powerful or intimidating as the previous ones. This is really good and engaging, it is the third best Hellraiser film. Expand

Some very bloody and graphic moments. I enjoyed getting a little bit more sense of the lore and purpose of it all. The horror aspects felt pretty thin, some cool new cenobite design but fairly under utilized on the whole.

Where it fails is the Cenobites close up, they are not as good as the original cenobites, Pinhead in particular has no where near the presence of the original Pinhead... They come off more like custodians of hell rather than Demons. They are just doing their job etc but from distance they remind you of the old Cenobites and bring back the dread.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While it is a nice reboot, I feel as if the beginning in middle were almost too slow. The middle dragging out the most where there almost felt like no plot until the obvious signs of an ending. The additional lore was nice and felt creative and the callbacks to the original felt well placed and respectful. The twists were not really great as I feel it was unneeded and could've been better without. Additionally, the appearance of the Cenobites were amazing with them reusing the designs of the original series. The Labyrinthine aesthetics were very honest and stuck true to the original to the point nothing really changed but, in my opinion, was a good thing. If it's not broken, don't fix it and it even looked better!

Finally, I think it was overall a decent reboot considering the original and what it had to work with. I'd suggest this movie to a friend or family member, but I personally wouldn't say "You have to see this!" overall I enjoyed myself but had to gawk at the more awkward moments.

A serviceable first entry into what could potentially be a successful franchise. There is a notable absence of gratuitous gore, but overall it builds up to a great final act. There is allot of potential here and I am pleased with this first outing.

That may beHow much you enjoy this movie depends entirely on your mindset going into it. Most of the negative reviews seem to revolve around the idea that this was a sanitized version of something that originally existed to be transgressive. That may be a fair criticism, in some sense but the very definition of what is transgressive is very, very different from what it was in the 80s. This film has a similar feel to the original, but the difference lies with us- we are no longer shocked like we were then by this kind of violence and gore. If anything, this movie is far more violent and gory that the original was.

It is an updated take on an 80s slasher with some inventive creature effects and some truly awesome practical effects overall. It's a savage, sadistic thrill that doesn't push any boundaries out and, frankly, doesn't seem to try to at all.

That slight disappointment, and a fairly basic story, are why I only gave this movie a 7. Don't go into this expecting anything revolutionary, and don't expect any great twists in the story. Go into it looking for it to be what it is- bloody, twisted fun. Final thought, the one that everyone wants to know I'm sure- Jamie Clayton is INCREDIBLE as pinhead. I had my doubts going into it, but her performance is suble, unsettling, menacing as all hell, and measures up very favorably to Doug Bradly. I won't presume to pick which is better, but Miss Clayton rocked the hell out of this

Doug Bradley sitting this aside was great as he could totally come back for fan service and it left room to breathe for the new cast. The addiction, the depression, the sex, this fires on all things hellraiser. People often forget that Clive's horror can take time to build and the Cenobites played on the human emotion just as much as murdered the hell out of people. Go see this as a hellraiser fan. There are some valid critical points one could make but this is a solid stand alone entry that could leave room for more lore in the future. Enjoy! Expand

This is truer to the spirit of the original classic, and much more engaging than any Hellraiser sequel has been in at least 25 years. It's interesting, engaging, and creepy looking. Hellraiser isn't a story for everyone. The level where the metaphor works is about what evils a toxic human being can bring into the lives of people who love them, who are close to them, or whose lives they touch. It's meant to be make a viewer a little uncomfortable, but this movie is masterful at conveying the story its creators intended.

If you liked the original Hellraiser, and you like Clive Barker's material you should absolutely not skip on this.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The cenobites were scary. The lead actress did great. I liked that they showed the book that described the different configurations and choices. I knew from the beginning something was off with the boyfriend so I'm glad he got what was coming to him. I'm a little confused as if the millionaire guy became a cenobite himself? Or just dealt with that specific torture in hell forever. Anyways, I was pleasantly surprised with the reboot. And I thought that there was plenty of gore because I turned my head and went OWIE OWIE more than once. Expand

A horror movie to the T. Gory, and creepy, it gives you a 13 ghosts kind of vibe. The make up and special effects were A+
The acting was also not bad given the genre; the main actress did a fantastic job, and carried the whole cast. I’m sure we will see her in many more things to come. All in all a very spooky surprise this season. It’s free on Hulu, there are no downsides if you’re into this type of film.

Hellraiser is the next horror franchise to get a reboot. I kind of expected it to be awful but was pleasantly surprised by the film.

The Cenobites, who are the real stars of this film, look frightening and creepy which is great! Jamie Clayton is the new Pinhead/Priest and she does a phenomenal job. She steals every scene she is in and is truly intimidating. I love the direction of every scene with the Cenobites as well. The director uses creepy set designs and lighting to make the Cenobites feel unsettling. I'm appreciative that the director doesn't use jump scares for the Cenobites. I do have an issue with the movie and that is I think the movie is a bit too restrained in terms of plot and kills. The kills are also kind of fun to watch but it does certainly feel a bit tame in terms of gore. Another issue I have is the human characters. They're not very likeable or interesting. I found it difficult to root for the main characters and I certainly didn't care when a side character died either. Other than that, it's a surprisingly good reboot and I wouldn't mind a sequel for this.

So the person that gets cut is taken to Hell as sort of a payment. It doesn't seem to bother who "solves" the puzzle box. But who exactly gets the "prize"? Initially it was Voight because he was the owner - what other reason could there be, because he didn't solve the puzzle. But after Voight, what are the rules? Who gets the configuration prize, and based on what rules?

And finally, suppose the owner solves the puzzle but also cuts himself and is therefore taken to hell as payment. Now what? Who gets the configuration prize? Nobody is there! Unless there's some exception. But the point is that this movie tries to introduce a rule-based puzzle box world, yet does not provide sufficient rules to make it comprehensive. Instead, this movie appears to do whatever is convenient.

The pleasure box is no longer a mystery. It has become deterministic and nihilistic; When the old style Cenobites were summoned, they would investigate the reason. And based on what they find, they would provide their own interpretation where they do not show to know the difference between pleasure and pain. Now that approach has content! And that has been killed off now.

The executives don't care for such things. This resulted in incoherence of the world in this movie.

This movie only exists to promote wokeness and to destroy more culture from the west.

Soon enough you'll see two gay men in bed, Pinhead is played by a transsexual (it actually makes sense but don't think for a second that "making sense" is the reason they did this) and... if you look closely at the end, you'll see a golden statue of a man with his head down and arms spread. What does it resemble? Baphomet! This image is shown in multiple scenes where the statue is seen in the background. Again, better believe this is on purpose.

Its depiction in a body of chrome was seen in Rihanna's music clip "Umbrella". See the half second frame at 2:46 in the clip.

The acting was often poor and often outright bad. The "scary" parts were too clean and clinical; The Cenobites resembled set pieces. The tiny bit of blood was unconvincing, the little bit of ripping of flesh looked outright cheap. This is a horror movie? The movie was way too tame for that.

Other effects were cheap too. The first fragments of the movie exist only to fulfill the woke-quota and is not needed for the story. The represented drug addiction was less than a shadow of what it really is. What was the point tangibly?

The characters were generic disposable cardboard items. Period.

I could give this flick a one star rating or two or three. What does it matter? An increasing number of people are waking up. I'm calling this rubbish out for over fifteen years in many movie reviews and I hope I contributed a little. But I feel my role as an insignificant person trying to wake up people is coming to an end. Hopefully it's for good reasons.

I didn't watch the original, but I'm sure it's all better than the last Hellraiser. Hellraiser can hardly be called a horror film, but it's not scary at all. There are not even screamers here. The meeting with the senobites should be clearly presented differently, and there is no information about them in the film. They are simply introduced into the plot as something mundane. Is it exactly a franchise relaunch or a fan movie? Mediocre cast, more than one recognizable actor, weak acting. And this has not yet reached the script. Which literally can fit on 1 piece of A4. Stupid dialogues, lack of motivation for the heroes and the uncertainty of their actions. Hellraiser is an empty, thoughtless project that is obviously created for the commercial purposes of exploiting the franchise. Do not spend your 1.5 hours of time on this. Expand
