"Evil dies tonight”, unless of course they decide to squeeze another movie from this dying franchise, then evil won’t really die tonight, but maybe next time, or the time after that. You’d think after over 11 movies and particularly the way"Evil dies tonight”, unless of course they decide to squeeze another movie from this dying franchise, then evil won’t really die tonight, but maybe next time, or the time after that. You’d think after over 11 movies and particularly the way the 2018 adaptation of Halloween ended that the whole franchise would have finally finished by now. Well here we are with another forgettable horror that you’re far better off skipping altogether. Halloween Kills is yet another reminder that the Halloween franchise needs to stop.

The seemingly never ending saga of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) continues in a downhill fashion adding yet another movie to a series that peaked in 1978 and never should have had any sequels. Despite the events that took place in the previous movie, Michael Myers has achieved superhuman status and emerges from the flames like a demonic phoenix, ready to brutally slash everyone and anyone to pieces again. But in a town that have been haunted by Myers for years the townsfolk have finally said enough to the notorious boogie man as they now take matters into their own hands, much to the dismay of the local police department who are failing to reassure everyone that they can handle this. But this ain’t no normal serial killer apparently. Bullets, knives and fire cannot stop the inhuman mask wearing psychopath from returning to his home on Halloween.

For those of you here for the gore, you won’t be disappointed, it doesn’t hold back. There’s a whole bunch of disposable characters practically queuing up to be violently hacked to pieces. For those of you here for Jamie Lee Curtis I hate to disappoint you but she is criminally underused. The trailer paints a different picture of the movie’s focus, I was expecting it to be Laurie and her daughter (Judy Greer). They are both underused, with the film shifting much of it’s time to new characters with vague connections to the first Halloween movie. Halloween Kills really cannot help itself when it comes to reminiscing the original Halloween but all that accomplishes is you’re constantly being reminded as to what a good horror looks like and not this absolute rubbish that is not worth your time or money.

Halloween Kills is desperately clinging on to a classic horror with the result being a franchise that like the terrifying Michael Myers refuses to die. I love horror movies but Halloween Kills has nothing going for it, it’s not scary and at times it’s actually boring. Honestly it makes Halloween 2018 look like an absolute masterpiece. Not recommended for anyone. I know it’s the Halloween season and the perfect time to watch a good horror movie but believe me when I say Halloween Kills isn’t it, do yourself a favour and stick to the original 1978 version instead.

There’s no plan, just people running around either being killed or trying not to be killed. None of the cast do a convincing job, and some are basically exactly the same as before. The only thing that makes you keep watching, is how creative Mike Myers gets at killing people. I really don’t know how this film was allowed to be made.

Come on. Kill this franchise off already.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie has great camera work, terrible acting storyline and perceived realism. "Michael is in the back seat, go look.". Actors just standing there staring at Michael doing nothing to defend themselves. Just looking at him when an easy escape is near they meet their demise with their stupidity. Just 30min into the movie with the cop not knowing how to aim had a clear shot at killing Michael. The firefighters could have at least swung at Michael with their axes. Instead they stood their doing nothing but looking at him spray him with a hose Expand

This is one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. The plot is all over the place, acting is mediocre, and the cliche horror tropes are exhausting. I love the Halloween movies and this recent iteration is an absolute disgrace to the franchise.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In Halloween Kills, Michael Myers have been blessed with the very most amount of plot armor possible. First he's outnumbered by a hoard of firefighters, but slaughters them one by one, each one waiting for their turn to die. Then he's outnumbered by a hoard of 20+ cocky townsfolk who beat, stab and shoot him to the ground, just to get up and kill them all in the same manner, because suddenly they're all weak scared dummies just taking it. Several times during the movie there's clear opportunities to kill him for sure, but each time they do something moronic instead; a light kick to the head instead of pitchfork in the head, a knife in the shoulder instead of knife in the head, and so on. Plot armor, because he can't die since there's a third movie. This amount of plot armor is just a sign of terrible writing. The acting is terrible, the dialogue is terrible and the entire movie is pointless and doesn't move the "story" forward. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So far, this is the most disappointing movie release this year. It's like someone said...let's take Halloween but make it more like Michael Meyers is John Wick. The gore and effects are good and there's a ridiculously high kill count. But the rest of the movie is an exercise in frustration watching people make the absolute stupidest decisions and just barely put up a fight. People literally just stand there in one place for extended amounts of time and just wait to be killed. Crowds of like a dozen people all just stand there and wait their turn to die. People decide to split up into smaller and smaller groups. I can't. Then basically everyone dies...both "legacy" characters that all just get introduced out of nowhere only to be immediately killed and established characters from the last movie. There's a big dramatic scene where it's some commentary on "who's the real monster" when mob mentality is the centerpiece of this movie. *spoiler* they cause the death of a different escapee when everyone knows damn well Michael Meyers does not look like the Penguin. This movie just made me mad. The first movie had so much going for it and they messed it up hardcore and completely shifted the tone and direction. Also just like the first Halloween 2...Laurie Strode is in a hospital bed and out of commission basically the entire move, relegated to a barely there background character. Expand

Nobody seemed to put up a fight against him they all just accepted their death. The top cast had little screen time and it felt like the movie was all over the place. Good gore effects but I'd rather watch paint dry Expand

Halloween is such a weird franchise with its constant reboots and different timelines, weird 3rd anthology movie and Busta Rhymes. So doesHalloween is such a weird franchise with its constant reboots and different timelines, weird 3rd anthology movie and Busta Rhymes. Halloween (2018) was a surprisingly decent sequel/reboot and I was definitely interested in a sequel. So does this sequel live up to the 2018 version or is this another failed sequel?

Firstly, it does live up to the title as Michael Myers kills A LOT of people. The kills are also quite enjoyable to watch and it is a blast to see him take down multiple individuals. Actually, Every scene featuring Michael Myers is a highlight including him stalking his prey is fun to watch. There is also a flashbacks sequence that occurs in this film that involves using a filter to make it seem like the original 1978 movie. They also used makeup instead of CGI to bring back Dr Loomis and it looks phenomenal. The scene also fixes a plot hole from the 2018 version so that was appreciated. Surprisingly, Halloween Kills explores some social commentary about mob mentality. It shows how the fear of Michael can turn people evil as well. However, the social commentary is dampened by how stupid every character is in this movie. So many characters in this movie make the stupidest decisions ever made. So many characters for some reason love splitting up instead of sticking together. The movie also shows that it is clear people can buy guns yet we will see a bunch of people try to fight Myers with baseball bats and hockey sticks. There is also one scene where a couple hears that someone is in their house but for some reason don't go outside and call the cops. One massive annoyance in this movie is that people for some reason, don't just gang up on Myers and instead come at him one at a time like complete morons. Furthermore, these people don't seem to ever try GOING FOR THE HEAD. It also baffles me that none of the characters realises where Myers is planning to go when it was extremely obvious.

The story is also a complete let-down. In Halloween Kills there are two parallel plot lines, one with Myers and one with the mobs. While the mob social commentary is interesting, the plotline doesn't have any bearing on Myer's plot. It instead feels like it is taking a lot of screen time from what the audience wants. Additionally, Halloween Kills seems to change how Myer's operates compared to the previous canon films. In Halloween (2018) there was a motive that Myers is returning to finish Laurie but Halloween Kills decides to just toss that motive straight out of the window. Michael Myers also felt like a psychotic killer in the previous canon films but in Halloween Kills he must have supernatural powers because he is surviving way too many unbelievable injuries with ease and magically teleporting. He also seems to know martial arts now or something because he is doing some "IP Man" style kills when fighting multiple individuals. One of the big disappointments is how they handled the iconic Halloween character, Laurie Strode. Throughout the film, Laurie is just in a hospital talking and monologuing. Her scenes are so irrelevant that you could remove her character and the story will still be the same. So if Laurie is not the protagonist then who is? Well, the movie splits the screen time between Laurie's daughter Karen (Judy Greer), granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak), Tommy Doyle (Anthony Michael Hall) the child who survived in 1978, a straight couple and a gay couple. The problem is that there is not really a clear protagonist and they just split the screen time between a bunch of less interesting characters. None of them has enough screen time to develop their characters and none of them is even that likeable either.

Overall, Halloween Kills is unfortunately a very bad sequel. It does provide the fun slashing kills that a fair amount of fans would want and enjoy. However, it is difficult to fully enjoy this film when there is a high amount of stupidity in it. This franchise was rebooted to remove itself from the ridiculous supernatural nature but seems to be making the same mistakes. Halloween Kills was a middle instalment that doesn't build up to anything for the final instalment. The inevitable conflict between Michael Myers and Laurie for Halloween Ends just feels less meaningful now. Hopefully, Halloween Ends somehow does better.

Then there's the really obviously ludicrous parts, like when a whole town of people mistake a little old man who stands about 5'4" for the huge towering broad shouldered Michael Myers...apparently not only is he completely invincible in the most ludicrous way, he can also shrink several feet...at least as far as the morons in this town believe. Literally nothing happens because half of the movie is flashbacks. These flashbacks happen from so many people's perspectives and it's recapping in the middle of the movie as if we already forgot who they are and why they are relevant to Myers. But that's just it, they aren't relevant. As far as logic goes, I get that there is a serial killer on the loose, but that doesn't mean that most of the town should be losing their god damn minds. There is like a marathon of people running through the hospital.

I gave it one point for the way Myers creatively kills the victims even though the logic is still out the window. You got a guy in a mask with huge blindspots, walks 3mph, and only kills up close. Meanwhile, you have tons of people with guns that like to shoot at pointblank range.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don’t have enough words to explain the full depth of how bad this movie is

Okay to start off short it’s a dog **** movie. (Even by halloween standards) Freddy vs. Jason on a skipping dvd would make more sense then this movie. You will leave actually upset you spent money on This train wreck. Watching paint dry is a better experience. It felt like someone skimmed every other sentence about the franchise and has never watched a Halloween movie. Michael has always toed the line of being “immortal” and makes you question it.which is what makes them interesting movies . Whoever made this read “Michael is indestructible”. He starts off by killing firemen with axes 10 on 1 and kills them all unscathed. Which okay BUT THEN GETS KILLED BY A RAGTAG LYNCH MOB AT THE END. AFTER BEING STABBED REPEATEDLY AND HIS NECK BROKE BY TWO SMALL WOMEN. Then he gets up because he’s “a spooky embodiment of evil” and kills the entire group that kicked his ass the first time. There is no consistency.

Literally it feels like a bad AI wrote the script of a Michel Meyers movie. Made no sense loses it’s own plot 3-4 times in the movie and then tried to make a twist where their is no set up. It leaves you frustrated you payed to see it.

When I walked into the theater to see this movie I was extremely excited with the completion of my Halloween marathon to see the next chapter in this franchise and I was disappointed. the first half of this film is amazing with great suspense and it felt like a lot of care and effort was put into it but the second half was terrible Laurie gets out of her hospital room once in the entire movie. The second half felt rushed and unfished and that's the problem with movies coming out in 2021 they had a lot of time to produce a good chunk of the movie and then covid struck and they had to rush the second half to get it in theaters by October this year to make money. they really milk the plot of the protesters lead by Tommy Doyle and a big chunk of the film is taken place in the hospital and Michael doesn't even step a foot in the hospital in the entire runtime of the movie this movie was made for money to piggyback off the success of Halloween 2018 the movie just gets worse and fells more uncared for as the movie went on. watch it if your a fan of Halloween but otherwise stay away from this film like it is Michael Myers Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’m a life long Halloween fan. Ofcourse nothing to me can touch the original. This new film Halloween kills set a new low for the franchise. It’s so bad that it’s worse than the notoriously worst Halloween films that are resurrection, Halloween 5 & the rob zombie remakes. I can’t describe how a whole load of nothingness the film is. The plot non existent. Jamie the lead character has like 10 minutes screen time which was completely cringe. It’s like she turned up for the quick easy money pay day as the reality kicks in that she won’t land a role as big as this any more. The way the movie was shot baffled me, even Halloween resurrection was filmed better. The kills were so frustrating and they didn’t even show them, they shown the final sequence of the film in a slow motion killing spree that left viewers and long term fans wondering what on earth they just watched. The lead characters and the return of a few characters from the original Halloween film seemed forced and quick. They also looked aging and tired, uninspired and lacking that touch that makes an actor today. Some scenes were completely pointless and lead nowhere. Such as the chasing of Lindsey or the chase of the mental patient. The lines were cringe worthy. ‘Evil dies tonight’. The vibe was dead. The film had no soul. The potential the film had was wasted. This would’ve even been a bad television movie if it hadn’t been released at cinemas. Michael Myers didn’t even seem like Michael Myers. No thrill of his appearance whatsoever. It was like it was a copy cat from the retirement home. The music was once again dependant on the music of old.

It’s extremely sad to me that this film had to be shot like this and released. They killed the franchise with this film more than every film after the original together. Don’t support blumhouse. They massacred this film in the wrong way.

How about Tommy and Lindsey, the kids Laurie Strode babysat while being stalked by the "shape"? Well I hope you care about those characters a lot because they have more screen time than Jamie Lee Curtis' s Laurie Strode, along with once Sheriff Brackett and a bunch of secondary characters around town. While Laurie is recuperating from her injuries in the hospital, the townsfolk become an unruly mob on the hunt for Michael Myers. And the many victims of Michael are these secondary characters who are introduced just to be killed off moments later. Sure, Halloween Kills is the middle of a trilogy, but considering what happens it could have been wrapped up with a single sequel instead of being spread out over three movies. And I hope you like the phrase "evil dies tonight". You'll hear it about 47 times. Expand

Halloween Kills has committed the terrible sin of all the other sequels in this franchise, and what seemed like an incredibly notorious return, fades into a film that at its worst, never gives reasons to justify its existence.

I really believe it was a massive mistake to pick up the narrative right where the 2018 movie ended, because it took out Laurie Strode off the game.
This in its eagerness to give prominence to the people of Haddonfield, who until now had always been stupid victims in Michael Myers' path.
In this one, they still continue being stupid victims, they just put up a little more resistance.

There are a lot worse things about the Halloween franchise, and that by no means exempts all the glaring flaws in this film, but frankly I didn't find it that horrible either.

I've seen things in the genre that are way worse, and Halloween Kills is merely inconsistent and flawed, which is a shame considering all the expectations it created.

I read negative reviews because of the violence that unfolds on screen, but if you're watching a film about an unstoppable murderer, I think it is ridiculous to complain about it.
It's not that it's justified, its own concept revolves around violence.

Taking into account these results I no longer have any illusions about Halloween Ends, but considering that I just read that that film will have a 4-year time jump, it's fair to intuit that at least it will not be as abrupt and empty as this disappointing sequel.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Another pathetic attempt to make a Halloween mean something and falling FLAT! There is nothing believable about 1 single piece of dialogue in this entire movie. Laurie's long monologues contradict everything she says and does later. Every character is wasted. Myers is good but the kills are boring because the characters he kills are basically cartoon characters! The "Mob" isn't believable especially after confusing Danny Devito's stunt double for 7' Myers!? Then the finale is killing a main character that no one cares about anyway, so Myers can finally stand and look out a window? Now I see why this movie was laughed out of Venice Film Festival (it didn't belong there anyway) and the massive PR campaign from JLC to talk about how deep this movie is, surprise it's not deep it's just a pretentious crappy sequel to a money grab reboot. THIS MOVIE KILLS!

Halloween Kills is a worthy sequel to 2018's Halloween. If you are going in expecting a fun and kinda chessey slasher film then this is the movie for you. This movie has kills left, right, up and down, and they are brutal. The acting if fine and the characters are ok, but some are not as developed as others. And there are some people in this movie that are straight up dumb, and that's ok every now and then but it does get annoying after a while. There are two issues I have with this movie. 1. Lorie Strode takes a back seat in this movie and was pretty disappointing. 2. Is there is this sub plot involving an escapee that should not have been in the movie it was very dumb. Other than those two issues everything else was great. The kills, like I said are the series best and there are a lot. And another big win is this movie's score it is thrilling and intense in all the right moments. Near the end of the movie is when everything went nuts and it was a blast. The town comes face to face with Michael and it is epic. Last but not least is the cliffhanger ending that may or may not disappoint some viewers. I liked it though. Overall 85/100

The movie feels very cheaply made, the actors (even the well known ones) act like they only gotten a few bucks for their work and the plot is like a 10 year old wrote it.
It is however very brutal and graphic. Sometimes massively over the top, very unlike Michael Myers. But it literally makes no sense. I thought cheap movies from the 70s were bad, but this is a disgrace for pretty much anything and anyone involved.
It still boggles my mind how I sat through it. Maybe Im becoming desperate after so many bad movies in the last few years.

It's bounds and leaps from the almost perfect film that came before it, and without a single focus to hold on, it's 3rd act stands on wobbly legs. At times the denizens who hunt Michael Myers through the streets of Haddonfield come off as stupid instead of brave and angry, and some of the dialogue sounds hokey, almost ridiculous. It's bloody and nihilistic and tragic, and really, not much else. Regardless of all this, HALLOWEEN KILLS stands as a solid part 2 in David Gordon Green's trilogy, that maybe lacks in some places but **** brings it in others. Excited to see how it all "ends". This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie very very brutal. The opening scene with the flashback to 78 was absolutely amazing. When Loomis showed up on the screen I geeked out. Michael Myers in the flashback scenes was spot on. The mask, the movements just overall really loved the flashbacks. Tommy Doyle and Lindsey Wallace were some of my favorite characters. Tommy was such a big part of the movie. Karen really grew on me in this one so it hurt when she died. I loved that Alison and Karen were a big part as Laurie kinda sat back. Only thing I didn’t like was the ending. I loved the scene, it was great, I just don’t thin it it should’ve been the ending. Expand

This movie shows a new Michael... same old wickedness, but a new thirst for blood. he was literally killing everything that crossed his way and who survived got hella lucky. He was thirsty for violence and in the MUCH WORSE ways, i swear it's much worse than in the other movies and he was doing much worse in front of someone who was seeing their loved one being tortured to death... i mean that was SO wicked this man is pure evil!!!!! he NEEDS to be taken down. And that part on the hospital where the man killed himself because all these grown ass ignorants were coming after him... the heaviest one in the movie. just WOW. WHAT A MOVIE. what a great job everyone envolved did.

It fills your need for nostalgia even more and does a great job at doing what a sequel is supposed to do. Build an icon. The only downside to the movie was the wasted time we spend panning to Jamie Lee Curtis that really is excessive at some points. She does have an awesome monologue at the end where she explains the curse of Michael Myers. If you are not a fan of the first two movies (78 & 81), then I can see how this movie would upset people. In Halloween II, Micheal goes to the hospital to finish his job of killing Laurie Strode. In this movie, you expect the same concept, and the movie instead throws a curveball and doesn't send Michael Myers to the hospital this time which is a double edged sword because we spent a lot of time expecting that, and then falling short. But on the flip side it's a twist that really surprising and unexpected, in an age where all thrillers and horror films are all too predictable. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is a great follow up and middle movie in a trilogy. It's basically the empire strikes back in regards to the conclusion. The bad guy has won and the good guys are down and out for the most part. Anyone complaining about the kill count doesn't get the theme of this movie, this one is about Michael truly showing he is the essence of evil and not to mention he was pissed because he was just set on fire and was "beaten" by Laurie. They do a great job of showing the over confidence of the townspeople which backfires on them badly in the end, just because they have numbers doesn't make it an even fight as you soon see.

Suspension of disbelief was thrown out the window in numerous sections, and you’ll often think to yourself, “this is ridiculous.” Interesting characters from Halloween (2018) feel watered down and honestly downright stupid at times. Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) is barely even present in the film, with only about 15-20 minutes of run time focused on her in the ER. — Let’s hope the 3rd film in this Reboot Trilogy brings the Halloween franchise back to glory, because this surely didn’t. The bad pacing got a little better as the movie progressed, but too many superfluous subplots, none of which serve a purpose; and the whole story comes across as filler material between I and III. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Unlike the previous Halloween movie it actually had more of a real story and something to say. It felt more like a modern slasher, not just people with personal drama before they get killed.
There was some things I didn't like.
The movie spent too much time trying to convince us viewers that what we had known about the series for 40 years where wrong and that Michael Myers didn't target Laurie Strode and her family on purpose.
There was a line in previous movie establishing that they weren't siblings and she was just a victim but fans didn't accept that so this time they put more effort into convincing us that Laurie didn't matter to the overall story (while still keeping her and her family in center of the story).
They killed a character I really wish they hadn't killed (this movie had a huge cast so it's not a spoiler that people die). There was one old and really tiresome trope I wish they hadn't used involving gay characters.
There was also an old trope about black characters that I felt horror movies should have stopped using years ago.
And there was a sort of twist that made me, as an old fan, role my eyes. It's hard to explain without spoiling but it's something we old fans already know since 40 years back but they treat it like it's this shocking reveal. But other than this, most of the movie was really good. And we got to see an old character that nobody expected to see again.

There really isn't much of a story here as it largely just deals with the fallout from the ending of the previous film while also setting up the final movie. So don't walk into this expecting much of a plot because you won't get one. What you will get is plenty of satisfying kills and a lot of Michael Myers. That's all I really wanted out of this as it was billed as Michael's revenge and it most certainly delivers in that regard.

Is it as good as the first movie? Well, That all depends on what you are looking for. I appreciate the shorter run-time and the gory kills but it doesn't have the story that really helped elevate the first movie. As a longtime fan, I honestly enjoyed it. It had its flaws but there are far more highs than lows. I think a lot of people will walk away thinking it was one of the better films of the franchise but it is not among the best.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Initial viewing: as a Halloween fanatic, everything about Kills is doubled-edged. The first half of this movie is a total wet dream while the second half is just a tad up its own ass with lofty, unfocused plot direction. The 1978 expansion scene is amazing—although now it will surely give birth to some misguided hope that we would get more of that old charm re-jiggered on-screen again in the future. The firefighting scene was excellent, but for a moment The Shape essentially turns into Bruce Lee swinging sharp things. There are some very worthy “good old Michael” kills, mixed in with a new tendency for crowd melees that is hit (i.e. the firefighter scene) or miss (the final confrontation.) The new brutal Michael contrasts with the younger "strangle-happy" Michael to tell a hidden tale of a psychopath's murderous ways maturing as he gets older and more pissed off... but the overall shift towards blood splatter and visceral kills is another reminder of where this series has been going wrong since the original—even in the most well-meaning hands. I still had great fun with this movie and instantly have it in my top 5, but I also have to recognize that McBride & Green's plans Michael Myers are not as locked into true north as they seemed to be after 2018. Michael Meyers still isn't dead and is continuing his killing spree on Halloween night, so Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) her daughter and granddaughter (Judy Greer and Andi Matichak respectively), and the rest of their town and several past survivors band together to try and stop him. I really enjoyed the first installment of this rebooted franchise that was released a few years ago, so I was eager to see how it would continue here. And while it's heavy on gore and kills, as is to be expected, it didn't quite have the same draw as the first film had for me. This one felt a lot more soulless and hollow with not as much of a rooting factor for me this time around. In the first film, seeing three generations of Strodes band together at the end to kick Michael Meyers' ass was one of the most satisfying and awesome things I'd seen in a horror flick in years, and there really wasn't a whole lot of that going here with this one. Instead we get a lot of angry mob scenes and our protagonists aren't as near as effective or as strong in this one. It almost feels like this film decided to just go back to what the retconned sequels were all like: soulless and bloody, which is all fine and dandy, considering this is a 'Halloween' film after all, but it's still a little disappointing to see it fall back on old tricks after how refreshing of a turn the previous film took. But on the flipside, Curtis, Greer, and Matichak are in top form here once again and all three give fierce performances. But overall, aside from the solid three lead actresses, this happened to still be fun and certainly had plenty of creative and gory kills, but it does happen to fall back and rely on old habits a little too heavily for my liking. Pretty boring as far as horror movies go, completely moronic characters who practically throw themselves at Michaels knife. I didn't feel a moment of suspense watching this.

What it lacks on progressing the actual story, it makes up for it with it's pure, unchained carnage from Michael Myers.

From start till finish it’s a bloody carnage, and if you want to watch a movie that’s all about the kills, then this is for you, but don't go into this expecting anything else, because even though I liked the 2018 version, this unfortunately felt like a step down in quality. Firstly, the writing in this movie is terrible and the people of Haddonfield have got more brain cells than oranges have pips! The number of times a character will remind you how evil Michael Myers is, as if showing him brutally killing people at random wasn’t enough. Even when this mob finally catches up to Myers, they only beat him up a little bit and then let him have a breather. There should be a drinking game of the amount of times "evil dies tonight" is said, but I fear that might cause the statistics for alcohol poisoning to go up.

I was honestly rooting for Michael Myers the whole time. There were only two death scenes where I felt sorry for the characters, but the rest kind of deserved it for being so stupid. One of the funniest death scenes is when a woman starts opening fire on Myers while he’s in the vehicle, somehow missing every shot despite her bragging earlier about firing one before, Myers kicks the car door open causing the door to strike the gun she’s aiming at, discharging it, and accidentally shooting herself in the head. Or how about the amount of times characters are in perilous situations from which they could easily run away, but never do. It’s bizarre choices like this that makes me wonder what the filmmakers were thinking. Hammy dialogue and a disjointed narrative structure.

I can easily see people getting bored watching this movie because there’s nothing there on the surface besides the kills. I mean, say what you want about the 2018 version, but what surprised me is how the movie showed the aftermath of most of the kills instead of the kill itself. While in this movie, despite being a gory guilty pleasure, it felt like mindless gore.

Although I appreciate that the movie is trying to go for a social message about mob mentality, jumping to conclusions, and how far it can escalate. I mean if you’ve been on Twitter for six years, you will get the gist. The idea of fear and rage and rumor spreading through a mob which sets out to hunt Michael is very interesting, but it was executed so poorly. It’s also about finding the right balance of social message and a dumb slasher movie, and unfortunately, I got dumber slasher movie with extra dumb.

Other than that, some familiar faces (or character names) make a return, for better or worse. Although it made me question, 40 years after a traumatic event why would you stay in one place. The worst example of this has to be an older Tommy Doyle played by Anthony Michael Hall, who delivers an embarrassing performance. I thought he was incredibly one-note and after a while he got on my nerves. They should’ve brought back Paul Rudd as Tommy Doyle, just saying. Other returned characters are there for call back references without the respect they deserve.

On the other hand, it’s not to say the movie doesn’t have its merits.

I like the fact that Michael “Groovy Baby!” Myers has gone back to being not motivated for his actions and is just the embodiment of evil, who may or may not be supernatural. He's brutal and intimidating in this movie that every time he’s on screen there’s a deep feeling of dread. He is an immortal killing machine.

The score was great, of course with it being from John Carpenter himself, but also his collaborators Cody Carpenter (his son) and Daniel A. Davies. There were a couple of moments where the score became the icing on the cake.

Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode is still great as always, but this time takes a backseat and misses most of the action, but for good reasons, as in the last movie she received serious injuries when confronting Myers and I thought based on the marketing of the movie that she will get out of the hospital bed and face off against Myers for a second round, which I’m glad they didn’t do and they are self-aware enough to know that would be too ridiculous. Judy Greer was also great as Karen, the warmest and caring character in the whole movie.

The biggest praise I have for this movie is how they manage to find someone who had the same appearance and voice of Donald Pleasence, as Dr Loomis returns briefly in the 78' flashback scene, played by Tom Jones Jr., and dubbed over by Colin Mahan. People thought it was CGI or deep fake, which couldn’t be further than the truth. This movie and ‘Doctor Sleep’ stepped away from that technical side and instead used an actor. I wish more movies would do that.

Overall rating: My biggest issue with this movie and its sequels and tired reboots, is that the original Halloween was more about the mundane and subtlety. The studios need to remember that.

To be fair, it started off strong...but fell on it's face. Michael Meyers is not Jason Vorhees....yet the newer films seem to want him to be this "embodiment of evil". When at the end of the day, all they need is the chick from "You're Next" to take a swing at him and forever put an end to this torment of cash crap(meant to say grab, but crap is more fitting)of a slasher franchise. Evil dies the night when they decide this franchise has been milked enough. At least the kills were brutal.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Halloween movie that never needed to be made. It completely destroys the work the last movie did to try and give some thrills and kills. The movie should really be called Michael can. Spoiler, at the end of the movie Michael gets destroyed by a mob that seems to be 20 or 30 people. The he hulks up and murders them all one by one as if they were waiting in line. It's really the dumbest thing I have seen in a long time. We have all seen the damage mobs can do. He wouldn't have been in one piece, but in this movie he can single handedly defeat 20-30 people like its nothing. These movies aren't scary or entertaining at this point. It's more about how can they make the characters in the movie dumb enough so Michael can prevail. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Halloween Kills was good but definitely felt more like filler for what's to come in the next movie. The writing was just not the best, the screenplay was at times pretty cheesy and it was kinda all over the place tonally and with the many different smaller plots with these smaller characters but I do like how they wrote in a lot of characters from the original movie. The kills were pretty well done, I liked how they were still able to come up with unique kills and the makeup and special effects were superb. The performances from Andi Matichak, Judy Greer, Kyle Richards, Jamie Lee Curtis, Dylan Arnold, Anthony Michael Hall, Michael McDonald, Scott MacArthur, Diva Tyler, and Lenny Clarke were excellent. Overall it was a pretty good movie and I'm excited to see how it ends next October. Expand

One of the most brutal slashers i've ever seen. Michael doesn't spare a single soul in the movie. Mandem even more relentless than he is in other Halloween movies.

You've got to have extremely low standards to give this anything higher than a 5 or 6.

8/10.

I expected to hate the movie. I went into it knowing the reviews were bad BUT I have to say its the best of this Halloween trilogy. See it as a Halloween 3 - Season of the Witch type movie. Absolutely loved it

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved this movie, people who hate this clearly don't understand anything! Of course it has flaws like any movie but its not BAD if you really think about it. You have three types of people, people who just want to watch any film for a night out so they choose this and then think wtf?, People who are big fans of the movie who don't care what happens like myself, or fans that are picky and it has to be the way its always been, just remember Michael is pissed. I as a big Michael fan enjoyed this especially for Michael, he is such a badass in this film! I don't really care about the story or who dies but what's to tell?, Michael has a reason he's just wanting to go home. When will people learn, its called Kills for a reason and this is the best I've ever seen him. Laurie also isn't the main character and it gave others a chance to get out there with the unknown, they did not know what they were up against. This is the same night remember so its just what's happening, Laurie is not going to just get up and go after him and run around, (she tried but got injured).

People also need to know that yes people may know Michael is dangerous but they don't know what evil is, they just think this guy is a regular man with a silly mask on not knowing his power, which is probably why they have not cut off his head off, Loomis was the only one saying "I shot him 6 times and he walked off", so without him who's going to think of anything? they are the townspeople, a beat down would teach him or stop him right? wrong as Michael gets back up and shows them rightfully who they are messing with (which is the best part, when he puts on the mask, the music kicks in, Michael is clearly ready for this!), in shock you can see on Tommy's face of what he's witnessing. They are obviously going to keep him alive too, not sure why people were surprised, we already know there will be another film, Halloween Ends will be coming out next year duh! I can admit the hospital scenes were not exciting, some dialogue was cringe but overall it had a meaning, I understand what they were trying to do with this film but again Michael in action just distracted me from all that. But what else do you expect them to do with the story? everybody is getting injured/killed and you have this guy out there killing people its making the situation a big mess in the hospital, town. But yes this film was a big wow for me, I couldn't stop thinking about it when I went to sleep, and even went to watch it again, 3 times now! After that I can say the hospital scenes are boring now but it was good for a first time watch. So if you're a Halloween fan, you should defiantly see the movie, so if you hated the hospital, Michael will make up for it! There are way worse Halloween films than this one!

Halloween kills doesn't feel like a Halloween film, it seems odd to say a slasher flick lacks heart and soul, but this slasher flick lacks heart and soul - 4 stars for some admittedly fun gruesome deaths.
