Well I hope you care about those charactersRemember Lonnie? The kid that Dr. Loomis scared from behind the bushes in John Carpenter's Halloween? How about Tommy and Lindsey, the kids Laurie Strode babysat while being stalked by the "shape"? Well I hope you care about those characters a lot because they have more screen time than Jamie Lee Curtis' s Laurie Strode, along with once Sheriff Brackett and a bunch of secondary characters around town. While Laurie is recuperating from her injuries in the hospital, the townsfolk become an unruly mob on the hunt for Michael Myers. And the many victims of Michael are these secondary characters who are introduced just to be killed off moments later. Sure, Halloween Kills is the middle of a trilogy, but considering what happens it could have been wrapped up with a single sequel instead of being spread out over three movies. And I hope you like the phrase "evil dies tonight". You'll hear it about 47 times. Expand

Halloween Kills has committed the terrible sin of all the other sequels in this franchise, and what seemed like an incredibly notorious return, fades into a film that at its worst, never gives reasons to justify its existence.

I really believe it was a massive mistake to pick up the narrative right where the 2018 movie ended, because it took out Laurie Strode off the game.
This in its eagerness to give prominence to the people of Haddonfield, who until now had always been stupid victims in Michael Myers' path.
In this one, they still continue being stupid victims, they just put up a little more resistance.

There are a lot worse things about the Halloween franchise, and that by no means exempts all the glaring flaws in this film, but frankly I didn't find it that horrible either.

I've seen things in the genre that are way worse, and Halloween Kills is merely inconsistent and flawed, which is a shame considering all the expectations it created.

I read negative reviews because of the violence that unfolds on screen, but if you're watching a film about an unstoppable murderer, I think it is ridiculous to complain about it.
It's not that it's justified, its own concept revolves around violence.

Taking into account these results I no longer have any illusions about Halloween Ends, but considering that I just read that that film will have a 4-year time jump, it's fair to intuit that at least it will not be as abrupt and empty as this disappointing sequel.

I give this movie a 4, only reason : Michael Myers kills. They did well on the kills with the R-rating but that's genuinely everything about this movie that's decent. The rest is forgettable.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Much of the plot line felt extremely deluded and unnecessary, with many scenes making little to no sense. Suspension of disbelief was thrown out the window in numerous sections, and you’ll often think to yourself, “this is ridiculous.” Interesting characters from Halloween (2018) feel watered down and honestly downright stupid at times. Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) is barely even present in the film, with only about 15-20 minutes of run time focused on her in the ER. — Let’s hope the 3rd film in this Reboot Trilogy brings the Halloween franchise back to glory, because this surely didn’t. Overall the acting from everyone was good (except for a few characters). I enjoyed the kills and I thought that they picked a good message to go along with what they where trying to do. However I feel that they did not do a good job of blending the two together. I also feel that the premise that they had (a town going after a killer) was not utilized to its full potential. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A few interesting death scenes. The bad pacing got a little better as the movie progressed, but too many superfluous subplots, none of which serve a purpose; and the whole story comes across as filler material between I and III. Toward the end there was a laughable attempt at social commentary. At least they (potentially) killed a Strode, if they undo that, it’ll be super lame. It had a few enjoyable moments, especially Big John getting killed. 6.8/10. Expand

There really isn't much of a story here as it largely just deals with the fallout from the ending of the previous film while also setting up the final movie. So don't walk into this expecting much of a plot because you won't get one. What you will get is plenty of satisfying kills and a lot of Michael Myers. That's all I really wanted out of this as it was billed as Michael's revenge and it most certainly delivers in that regard.

Is it as good as the first movie? Well, That all depends on what you are looking for. I appreciate the shorter run-time and the gory kills but it doesn't have the story that really helped elevate the first movie. As a longtime fan, I honestly enjoyed it. It had its flaws but there are far more highs than lows. I think a lot of people will walk away thinking it was one of the better films of the franchise but it is not among the best.

Michael Meyers still isn't dead and is continuing his killing spree on Halloween night, so Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) her daughter and granddaughter (Judy Greer and Andi Matichak respectively), and the rest of their town and several past survivors band together to try and stop him. I really enjoyed the first installment of this rebooted franchise that was released a few years ago, so I was eager to see how it would continue here. And while it's heavy on gore and kills, as is to be expected, it didn't quite have the same draw as the first film had for me. This one felt a lot more soulless and hollow with not as much of a rooting factor for me this time around. In the first film, seeing three generations of Strodes band together at the end to kick Michael Meyers' ass was one of the most satisfying and awesome things I'd seen in a horror flick in years, and there really wasn't a whole lot of that going here with this one. Instead we get a lot of angry mob scenes and our protagonists aren't as near as effective or as strong in this one. It almost feels like this film decided to just go back to what the retconned sequels were all like: soulless and bloody, which is all fine and dandy, considering this is a 'Halloween' film after all, but it's still a little disappointing to see it fall back on old tricks after how refreshing of a turn the previous film took. But on the flipside, Curtis, Greer, and Matichak are in top form here once again and all three give fierce performances. But overall, aside from the solid three lead actresses, this happened to still be fun and certainly had plenty of creative and gory kills, but it does happen to fall back and rely on old habits a little too heavily for my liking. From start till finish it’s a bloody carnage, and if you want to watch a movie that’s all about the kills, then this is for you, but don't go into this expecting anything else, because even though I liked the 2018 version, this unfortunately felt like a step down in quality. Firstly, the writing in this movie is terrible and the people of Haddonfield have got more brain cells than oranges have pips! The number of times a character will remind you how evil Michael Myers is, as if showing him brutally killing people at random wasn’t enough. Even when this mob finally catches up to Myers, they only beat him up a little bit and then let him have a breather. There should be a drinking game of the amount of times "evil dies tonight" is said, but I fear that might cause the statistics for alcohol poisoning to go up.

I was honestly rooting for Michael Myers the whole time. There were only two death scenes where I felt sorry for the characters, but the rest kind of deserved it for being so stupid. One of the funniest death scenes is when a woman starts opening fire on Myers while he’s in the vehicle, somehow missing every shot despite her bragging earlier about firing one before, Myers kicks the car door open causing the door to strike the gun she’s aiming at, discharging it, and accidentally shooting herself in the head. Or how about the amount of times characters are in perilous situations from which they could easily run away, but never do. It’s bizarre choices like this that makes me wonder what the filmmakers were thinking. Hammy dialogue and a disjointed narrative structure.

I can easily see people getting bored watching this movie because there’s nothing there on the surface besides the kills. I mean, say what you want about the 2018 version, but what surprised me is how the movie showed the aftermath of most of the kills instead of the kill itself. While in this movie, despite being a gory guilty pleasure, it felt like mindless gore.

Although I appreciate that the movie is trying to go for a social message about mob mentality, jumping to conclusions, and how far it can escalate. I mean if you’ve been on Twitter for six years, you will get the gist. The idea of fear and rage and rumor spreading through a mob which sets out to hunt Michael is very interesting, but it was executed so poorly. It’s also about finding the right balance of social message and a dumb slasher movie, and unfortunately, I got dumber slasher movie with extra dumb.

Other than that, some familiar faces (or character names) make a return, for better or worse. Although it made me question, 40 years after a traumatic event why would you stay in one place. The worst example of this has to be an older Tommy Doyle played by Anthony Michael Hall, who delivers an embarrassing performance. I thought he was incredibly one-note and after a while he got on my nerves. They should’ve brought back Paul Rudd as Tommy Doyle, just saying. Other returned characters are there for call back references without the respect they deserve.

On the other hand, it’s not to say the movie doesn’t have its merits.

I like the fact that Michael “Groovy Baby!” Myers has gone back to being not motivated for his actions and is just the embodiment of evil, who may or may not be supernatural. He's brutal and intimidating in this movie that every time he’s on screen there’s a deep feeling of dread. He is an immortal killing machine.

The score was great, of course with it being from John Carpenter himself, but also his collaborators Cody Carpenter (his son) and Daniel A. Davies. There were a couple of moments where the score became the icing on the cake.

Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode is still great as always, but this time takes a backseat and misses most of the action, but for good reasons, as in the last movie she received serious injuries when confronting Myers and I thought based on the marketing of the movie that she will get out of the hospital bed and face off against Myers for a second round, which I’m glad they didn’t do and they are self-aware enough to know that would be too ridiculous. Judy Greer was also great as Karen, the warmest and caring character in the whole movie.

The biggest praise I have for this movie is how they manage to find someone who had the same appearance and voice of Donald Pleasence, as Dr Loomis returns briefly in the 78' flashback scene, played by Tom Jones Jr., and dubbed over by Colin Mahan. People thought it was CGI or deep fake, which couldn’t be further than the truth. This movie and ‘Doctor Sleep’ stepped away from that technical side and instead used an actor. I wish more movies would do that.

Overall rating: My biggest issue with this movie and its sequels and tired reboots, is that the original Halloween was more about the mundane and subtlety. The studios need to remember that.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Halloween movie that never needed to be made. It completely destroys the work the last movie did to try and give some thrills and kills. The movie should really be called Michael can. Spoiler, at the end of the movie Michael gets destroyed by a mob that seems to be 20 or 30 people. The he hulks up and murders them all one by one as if they were waiting in line. It's really the dumbest thing I have seen in a long time. We have all seen the damage mobs can do. He wouldn't have been in one piece, but in this movie he can single handedly defeat 20-30 people like its nothing. These movies aren't scary or entertaining at this point. It's more about how can they make the characters in the movie dumb enough so Michael can prevail. Expand

There's even a moment that I thought was pretty overdone. They're still putting the events of the original Halloween movie in here and I don't know, but I just didn't like it and my opinion is that they should have stuck with the 2018 movie and not made a sequel. I have seen all of them several times over and would class this as one of the more middling entries. * Slight Spoilers ahead* Every time they start to go down the supernatural pure evil forces route I lose interest pretty quickly as I find the notion of Michael being simple man and mortal much more compelling. I also noticed that Michael seemed more sadistic in the way that he kills people in this film which seemed out of place with his usual robotic nature. The kills themselves were all great and all you should expect from a slasher movie.
I know a lot of people weren't too fond of the various flashbacks but I personally felt that they added something to the story, especially the first one which obviously fills in a lot of gaps in the narrative. I also personally appreciated the cameo appearances of some of the characters from the original Halloween (78) movie.
All in all I think this entry was a lot weaker than the 2018 entry and I think the decision to go the rote that they chose with the supernatural element spoiled it for me considerably.

Clearly a film made with great passion and love for the original 2 movies. However this this iteration sadly misses all the tension building opportunities instead using quick cut edits and reams of exposition to build an almost fantasy film level of lore for michael myers and as a result the whole thing comes off as a massive budget fan film. Its a real shame as i think with a less ambitious roster of extravagant kills, this really could've been as tense and scary as the carpenter original however the choices made by the direction and editing (and over the top kill after kill) just detached me from feeling, well anything at all. While i found it an entertaining watch, only a very particular nich of audience will be truly statisfied by this movie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is a pent-up fever dream. Halloween (2018) was a very simply executed slasher, but the story held it up and kept it interesting. It was more grounded in reality (except for a few moments, Michael Myers kicking a car in half comes to mind.) then this new film. This movie clearly just wanted to fix one major criticism with Halloween (2018) which was it didn't show much of the killing. This movie fixes that at least and nothing else. But where Halloween kills drops the ball for me, is because Michael just keeps killing and killing and the story has zero pacing. It's just, Michael kills this person, then move onto the next. And for some reason they brought back the kids from the original movie as "survivors" but he ends up killing them at the end of the movie, so I don't understand the point of bringing them back in the first place.

Now even though this movie makes no sense, it is enjoyable in the sense to see the updated technology. I mean you'll get plenty enjoyment out of this movie if you just want to see Michael killing people. However, for the rest of us, the story is very lackluster and has no pacing whatsoever. The director is also falling back on the older Halloween movies and timeline, by making Michael pretty much immortal. Which makes absolutely no sense, because it pulls out all the stakes because the characters might as well just give up because they can never beat Michael. And it seems that they just keep killing off characters but have no idea how to do it properly. So, in summary, it is a truly baffling experience. The story took a nosedive compared to the other film that just came out three years before hand. Try not to get invested in any of the characters, because they will be used as an excused to just be killed off. The only enjoyment out of this film you will get, is seeing Michael killing people with the updated technology. But other than that, the movie is a big MEH and doesn't end properly.

They tried to engage audience by showing past and present but I was unable to understand what was the fun of doing that. Hospital scenes (which were majority of the movie) were chaotic, confusing and underdeveloped. You can't feel that scene. Ending, which needed to be strong was weak and unnecessary.

Overall, writer and director didn't do their work properly due to which we got a underwhelming sequel.

The firemen tending to the fire at the end of the last film, free Michael, who goes back to Haddonfield to kill more people, while Tommy who was the young boy in the original film, raises a mob to make "evil die tonight" but they're not very good at making that happen and Michael kills them all. this movie isnt scary either but thats fine in my opinion a slasher doesn't need to be scary as long as its entertaining but i cant really describe this as entertaining either since so many of the deaths were so cheap it made it boring to watch because it became very predictable and you could say that about a lot of slashers but this movie takes it to a new level with how predictable it is

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. And after half a century, here we are again immersed in the town of Haddonfield, where a precocious serial-killer, the iconic Michael Myers, returns to terrorize anyone who comes in front of him: from the little girl, masterfully painted originally by a young Jamie Lee Curtis in the Carpenter's Halloween, down to the children she saved herself, found in this chapter; the latter almost explicitly follows the very first Halloween masterpiece: from the opening credits to the music, always composed by the master of horror, a veteran in this field of action. Laurie Strode therefore finds herself reliving the same nightmare once again: if in the previous chapter, she had tried to set fire to Evil personified, in this chapter, discovering the truth almost after an hour of film, all their hatred returns to vogue , which takes the exponential scale of the hospital, which has become a perfect symbol of schizophrenic society, whose victims become executioners: very touching and well represented is the scene in which one of the mentally ill previously escaped with Michael, and exchanged with him himself in front of the crowd angry in the hospital that follows him, she throws herself out the window, finding peace in suicide; therefore the victims, witness Michael's violence, and almost by mimesis, do violence themselves, giving rise to a cycle and recycling whereby blood draws blood. The film, directorically, takes up the grain of the time, and the stylistic code of the zooms, which, for example, were very fashionable in the 80s: let's think for example of the immortal zoom-ins on the face of Jack Torrence, who in the grip of madness he began to look at himself through the large windows of the Overlook Hotel, so does Michael, as he used to do in his sister's room as a child, observing his own reflection on the window, which in this chapter becomes almost a symbol of the doppelganger, of the split personality , of his own deeply disturbed and sick psyche (another topic dear to Carpenter, see The Ward, the ward). The direction is very dynamic, clean and at the same time dirty at times: the final sequences are memorable where against the light, almost in full German expressionist style, Michael's mask is portrayed in an almost figurative way, distorted by the angle of the shots and by the mass. in the abyss of the background, however, creating real Goya-style paintings. The actors act at times in a too caricatured way: in excellent shape instead is Jamie Lee Curtis, who at times has the semblance of a real tragic mask of the Greek theater, with the mouth downwards and the underlying eyes with eyebrows, which in an exasperated way they accentuate the drama of the face. Extremely good music, almost perfect for any scene: Carpenter, just like wine, ages better and better, which is saying something given his career. The photography follows, as we have said, the progenitors of the horror genre of the twentieth century, making the viewer feel the grain, and those strong lights, referring in part to Suspiria by Dario Argento, a masterpiece of the 70s (also here the role of the woman in horror, who fights with another woman, with the almost absence of male roles). A successful film, at times little studied, but for the most nostalgic, a real entertainment show. Expand

En-US It is a generic film in the franchise. Even being a reboot and having several scenes much more current than the other films, the trilogy can't be anything more than "more or less". With endless deaths during the film, we can see that the script follows the same ideology as all the previous films. Myers really be the "evil personification" in the movie as stated in the trailer, but with strange and incomprehensible scenes. The film is just another one in the franchise, always following the same line of death after death without much explanation.

That being said, this new installment "Halloween Kills," is not even as good as "Halloween 3," which, you may remember, was the one that had nothing to do with Michael Meyers at all. Instead, it involved a kids TV commercial that would make the viewer's head explode (ah, yes... the good old days). I digress, "Halloween Kills" does have a lot of blood and as the title suggests (drum roll): killing. I don't think I've ever seen another movie slash so many victims in an hour and a half...and I mean, literally, when Michael Meyers takes out an entire fire department, including the dogs, only at the beginning of the film, you better grab a large popcorn if gore is your thing. I'm not against egregious violence in films, and, in fact, enjoy a lot of disturbingly grisly movies; however, too much of it leaves little space for subtlety, plot, and ultimately scares. Expand

Michael Myers is back! Sadly he is back in a paint by numbers, generic cash in of the Halloween franchise.

Nothing is added to the story of Michael. The kills are nothing special. It's not very scary. You'll watch it once and forget about
