However, I'm absolutely thrilled to say Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is debatably the best of the Guardians trilogy and one of Marvel's best movies, period. James Gunn and the entire cast put their entire heart and soul into this film and you can feel it. Excellent acting from everyone, one of Marvel's most evil villains in the High Evolutionary, a story and writing with a perfect balance of humor, horror, and heart (something MCU higher-ups and writers can learn a few things from), VFX that do not look rushed like in too many recent MCU movies, and a very satisfying conclusion for all team members. It's not perfect, as I feel the film is a bit bloated (namely in the 2nd act) and the Adam Warlock tease at the end of Vol. 2 doesn't pay off all that well, but I had a great time with this film and have optimism that the MCU can achieve the greatness it once had in its future projects with the right writers and directors. This has an excellent cast and the characters are all so easy to love. There are many different emotions felt during the movie...in fact, I almost cried. It is sad to see that this is the final movie because James Gunn has moved on and some of the cast said they are done. Of all the MCU movies, this group of characters has been one of the best surprises and they will be missed. However, who knows how long it will be until we see them again in another MCU film. Expand

This movie is the culmination of James Gunns efforts to take the band of Misfits known as the Guardians of the Galaxy and make them an engaging and appealing cast of characters.

I loved the first movie, it is a film I can watch any time to feel good. This film isn't that, Volume 3 is more mature, more intense and considerably darker than anything else Gunn has tackled in his previous outings.

And honestly, it works. There are still moments of levity in amongst it all, but unlike a lot of marvel movies these days, the film isn't constantly trying to force humour where it doesn't belong, dark moments and moments of emotional weight are allowed their time on screen, and it means that this film can tell a far more serious story, whilst still feeling like a Guardians movie.

Visually the film looks great as always, with solid effects, captivating set pieces and reduced but refined moments of heavy action. The script is as solid as ever with believable back and forth between the characters.

I'll not look to spoil and plot points, but the villain is a blend of being truly hate-able, intimidating and well acted, to a few moments of scenery chewing, whether from direction, script or just acting choices there are a few occasions where the delivery was a little too much, but it doesn't detract from the film too much.

Overall, a really solid return to form for marvel who have been struggling lately, and one I would highly recommend, though I would say to be careful when considering taking younger children, as this one really does get quite dark and graphic.

So on to the review: This is by far the best Guardians movie, it is a movie that brings a lot of emotions, highly recommend because of the way the plot was managed, visuals fx and so on is really pretty yeah, but the message this movie teaches you is really important, seeing how nowadays most people turn the blind eye on some of the things this movie sheds light upon. Highly recommended, go watch it!

However, thanks to director James Gunn, he madeGuardians of the Galaxy was one of the best and most surprising things to come out of the MCU. They were an unknown group with heroes that were even more unknown than Iron Man (at the time). However, thanks to director James Gunn, he made them one of the most popular Marvel characters and team. There is a joke that the 3rd movie is always the worst which did occur with Ant-Man recently. Does Guardians of the Galaxy fall into this or does it deliver an epic trilogy?

One of the core themes in the Guardian of the Galaxy movies is family and loss. This is still prevalent here and still as powerful. We see the Guardians feel closer as a family than ever but also argue a lot like family too. In terms of character arcs, Peter is still reeling from the loss of Gamora, Yondu and even his mother which is making him go to the bottles. His struggles stem from self-blame for those losses and becoming more protective of his current family, The Guardians. He has conflicts with alternate Gamora who he still sees as his Gamora which she is having none of. Nebula is also a stand-out character this time with her being a member of the Guardians and not an antagonist. She has great interactions with everyone and her character arc is a great one. The character that is the major focus of GotG3 is Rocket. We finally get his backstory which is so dark and heartbreaking that it genuinely brought a tear to my eye. Mantis and Drax are still the idiot duo but they get some emotional moments and even cool scenes where they shine. Likewise, Groot, Kraglin and talking dog Cosmo are mostly just there but they get moments to shine too.

On that note, the return actors continue to do a great job in the role. They all get to flex more of their emotions due to this more emotional entry. Special praise to Bradley Cooper as Rocket who gives a stunning voice performance. Additionally, I must praise Chukwudi Iwuji's performance as the villain High Evolutionary. He gives a full-on narcissistic, zealous and unhinged performance that makes him so hateable. Another standout element from this series is the music and its incorporation of non-mainstream pop songs. James continues to use great songs such as "In the Meantime" by Spacehog and he uses them in great ways that benefit the movie. One difference this time is the use of some more popular songs such as "Creep" by Radiohead and "Dog Days Are Over" by Florence and the Machines. Nevertheless, they are used satisfyingly that I don't mind their use. There are a couple of awesome action scenes. The ones that come to mind are the fight against Adam Warlock where we get to see the guardians struggle against a powerful foe. Moreover, there is a phenomenal one-shot-looking action scene that illustrates all the Guardian's fighting prowess and it was so cool. The costumes and set design are well-designed. I love how creative the world is with the unique-looking planets and different alien species. Most of the aliens are done using prosthetics and they look great! The story itself is quite basic as it is mostly a fetch quest but the emotional payoff to all the characters' arcs is extremely satisfying. We get what feels like a proper ending to the original Guardians team that I wouldn't be angry if this is the last we see of these characters.

However, I do have some minor gripes with the movie. Adam Warlock who was teased since Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is finally here but he doesn't feel that meaningful to the plot. He is just there to be a nuisance rather than a significant antagonist. Him having the mindset of a child just makes him slightly lame. One common superhero movie issue is the vague villain powers which are also here. The High Evolutionary seems to be able to use telekinesis or emit giant energy blasts but never seems to do it against the Guardians when he should. Alternate Gamora was one of the biggest challenges as it was a Gamora with none of the character development from the first 2 films. In this film, she comes off as way too cold and aggressive than the Gamora of previous films which makes her not that likeable. Although, you could argue that was the whole point as she isn't the same Gamora, plus she does have her character arc. There is also a weird Nebula and Peter subplot that is hinted at but never amounts to anything. Overall, what an amazing end to the trilogy! With MCU projects lately being kind of subpar, it was great to finally have an entry that delivers. We now have another entry in great MCU trilogies with Captain America, Tom Holland's Spiderman and now Guardians of the Galaxy. I don't know what is going to happen with the Guardians of the Galaxy movies now that James Gunn is done and moving to DC. Nevertheless, I am looking forward to what James does as head of DC and I can't wait to see what new direction the Guardians go in.

Spider man home 3 and Loki were really good imo too, but this takes the crown. Just good development for all the characters and honestly some great writing. The times it went from one emotion and tone to another really fast without feeling jarring was kind of impressive. And the villain was solid. Just a good diabolical villain with no redeeming qualities. And he was truly a monster in the worst way, which was nice to see in a marvel film. Usually the pure evil types are really cringeworthy in marvel films, but not this guy.

I’d say this is James Gunn’s best film.

Not a perfect Marvel movie but SO much better than the crap that Ant Man 3 is. For starters, the jokes were much better in Guardians 3, despite the dog jokes being the weakest, as well as some lame Nebula jokes.

BUT, a lot of Drax's jokes were good and the rest were good as well. I waited until the week day to see this and the minimal amount of people there still laughed, and so did I. In fact, I don't even remember the last time I laughed during a Marvel movie. Thor 4 certainly wasn't it, nor was Ant man 3. Guardians of the Galaxy was it. Humor, sadness, humor, action, humor, action, sadness, etc. Guardians of the Galaxy 3 has it all and I am happy to say it is the best Marvel movie I've seen since Spiderman No Way Home. I also enjoyed Wakanda Forever, but Guardians is better. Marvel hasn't given a lot for people to be happy about lately. so give this a shot. I will definitely see this again. Ant Man 3 was so **** terrible I actually NEED to see Guardians 3 again.

To me, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 is without a doubt the best MCU movie to release after Avengers: Endgame--and I really liked Shang-Chi. That being said, Vol.3 does have some issues with pacing that were somewhat noticeable, as well as some characters I wish were better developed throughout the films runtime. These issues may be noticeable, but the rest of the movie is so entertaining and well done that by the end I simply didn't really care. The film is a touching yet fun end to Gunn's trilogy, and I highly recommend seeing it. Expand

James Gunn really did tie all the loose ends and elements of the first two films into this climactic finish. I went from not caring too much for Rocket to sitting in a theatre seat teary eyed watching his flashbacks. The humor was great, action was great, visually stunning, it was truly a great MCU film. My only negatives against the film were the 1) script for Adam Warlock (felt like he could of had some more development) but that's me stretching for something to pull.
2) The end credit scenes not really giving us to much to work with in the MCU's future (again stretching to pull something) Lastly, High Evolutionary has entered the MCU's top echelon of true villians.

This movie is a triumph when it comes to giving every single character the ending they deserve. The love James Gunn has for these characters oozes out of the screen. You know what I appreciate the most about this movie. This movie isn't trying to setup the next MCU project, this isn't trying to setup some alternate versions of the Guardians, this isn't trying to setup another version of Kang, most importantly this isn't trying to setup the next Avengers movie. This isn't treated like a stepping stone towards Avengers Kang Dynasty, the treatment that recent MCU projects have suffered from.

This movie doesn't give a **** about what's happening in the rest of the MCU, and I love that. It has one and only one purpose - to say goodbye to the Guardians and explore the tragic backstory of Rocket...

Just like Infinity War was advertised as an Avengers movie, but at its core it was Thanos' story, this movie is very much the Rocket Racoon movie. The entire backstory of Rocket was simply perfect, down to the last minute details. If you are an animal lover like me, there are some scenes that are hard to watch. This movie has some extremely dark and tragic under-tones and some graphic imagery that does push it's PG-13 rating to its limits. The tragedy that surrounds rocket is the heart and soul of this movie. Kudos to the animators what brought this charecter to life.

This movie has plenty of negatives, but I can't speak about any of them, because all of them are major spoilers . What I will say is that the positives vastly outweighed the negatives for me.

This was a really good movie and too be honest, left me tearful a handful amount of times . Goodbyes are always hard, but it's also important to put the pen down at the right time, and this movie is aware of that.
The galaxy will always need it's Guardians, so untill next time....

He does an absolutely fantastic job with every character in this movie, while Rockets story is the centerpiece tying them all together. Sie machenDie Guardians of the Galaxy kehren zum letzten Mal zurück.

positive - story- it was superb the background story of rocket + music - this was great by the music vibes the action sequence established that was great + some goosebumps moment in theatre it would be great + action sequences - the climax one was the best other than the action sequences was above average+ the comedy this was the best for it + vfx was superb to watch some new things

bad point - i thing adam warlock can get a bit more screen time in this film because the character are strong.

Was it better than most of phase 4? Yes, easily. Not only does this have some of the best character work in the trilogy, but in the entire MCU. They all have great arcs that perfectly end or continue their stories. The soundtrack is not like the others, but still great. This also has some of the best action, comedy and CGI in the trilogy. Rocket was also the stand-out. Bradley Cooper did a great job and his arc is one of the best in the MCU. Adam Warlock wasn't what I excepted, but I still liked him. The high evolutionary was also a great villain who you will love to hate. IDK, I don't really have any big complaints. A pretty perfect movie with lots of heart, something that's been missing from the MCU since Spider-man: No Way Home. Guardians vol. 2 was the first MCU movie I watched in the theaters and Guardians vol. 3 is far from the last one I will watch. Expand

Another great Guardians movie which is a worthy send off to the trilogy. My only issue with this film is that Adam Warlock just felt shoe horned in and was highly underused but other than that it was amazing. The order of best to least best is 1,3,2.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is everything a Marvel movie should be and more. James Gunn is able to make you empathize and care for a group of small animals more than some of the great comic book icons as of lately. Gunn’s ability to find humanity in even the most harrowing and heartbreaking moments is why this movie works. As always, movies are better when they find a balance and James Gunn achieves that in gold with just the right amount of drama and humor. I hope the MCU looks towards this movie as they head forward through Phase 5. Expand

The dark tone with the very funny moments is great, the character development is as good as never, Rocket's background story is great. Is a suprising great movie with banger soundtrack. It is way better than the whole fase 4 and the fase 5 till now, it is a must watch for sure. It is a emotional finale for all the characters, in a really suprising way. It's full of plot twist and a amazing really evil villan. It is a emotional storm. Expand

I cried 3 times during it and have just felt shell-shocked from watching it for the past few days with how heavily some of the emotional scenes hit. This film really felt like James Gunn cared about the message of the film and how the stories of all of the characters were handled having had since 2017 to put it all together. Luckily this film is wise enough to steer clear of the rest of the MCU and feels for the most part self-contained. Apart from the whole Gamora dying and coming back viewers don't need to be caught up on the rest of the MCU to watch GOTG 1-3 which I think makes this movie very accessible to watch. The music in this film doesn't always hit as it did in volumes 1 and 2 however some song choices feel especially strong and I think the direction to take it to 90s pop is a good evolution for the soundtrack to express the passing of time and the guardians growing up. Some moments were a bit questionable and the pacing didn't always feel realistic but I don't have too much of a problem with this as any discrepancies in the pacing served the arks of the movie and helped tie it together nicely. Overall one of my favourite Marvel movies and definitely one of my favourite movie-watching experiences. I doubt Marvel will ever top this level of movie again as it is on par with some of their best work. I'm very close to giving this movie a 10/10 but id have to watch it again to decide that. Expand

While there were jokes, I was pleased they were, for the most part, put to the side. There wasn't a random one-liner ruining what would be emotional scene. I was disappointed as a specific character I was really excited to see on screen overall takes a backseat, however who took his place in the story was very compelling and while a bit generic served his purpose well. Overall Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is a satisfying end to a trilogy that will serve fans well and could be enjoyed decently well by casual viewers. Expand

Still better than any Marvel content released since Spiderman: No Way Home up until now, Sept 2023

The movie, for sure, has it's flaws, ranking it for me, slightly lower than the other Volumes, but ultimately a good conclusion for characters I love. Everything else I want to say has been said by every professional reviewer.

Now with James Gunn leaving Guardians, Disney, who thinks good writing is just inserting 2023 progressive politics into every movie, will be left alone to bury themselves and what remains of the broken Marvel Post Phase 3 franchise. Even people who agree with these politics are sick of seeing them in their Marvel movie, especially when done so tactless and sloppily like Disney. Well Disney, you reap what you sow.

If you love animals, prepare for some emotion. All the characters are still loveable, and I was delighted to know more about the High Evolutionary. I also enjoyed the new angle with Gamora. In fact, I think I liked this movie more than vol 2.

However, since critical plot points happened outside of the Guardians trilogy (see Infinity War and End Game), the movie has the characters explain to us several times what exactly the deal with Gamora is and it can feel a bit clunky. But that really is the MCU's design which is at fault here.

A couple of jokes felt flat, for a few chuckles. A line or two felt cringy. But really I'm being a bit picky. Let me be clear : it was a joy to see these characters again, and I couldn't ask for a better end for the Guardians Saga.

I am very relieved to say that my worries"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" was an amazing surprise and surprisingly dark! After viewing the epitome of mid known as “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” I was very worried going into GotGV3. I am very relieved to say that my worries were superfluous. Not only is GotGV3 an excellent farewell to the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, but it also dives into arguably the best character in the series’ back story. Rocket's back story was the standout portion of the film in terms of tone and delivery. This had to be one of the darkest portions of the MCU, in recent memory at least. At times I found myself more eager to see Rocket's backstory over the main plot of the film. That said, the main portion of the film was great too! Containing one of the Slimiest antagonists in the MCU, portrayed brilliantly by Chukwudi Iwuji, both the main plot and backstory blend together in an exciting, funny, emotional and shockingly gory (for a Marvel film) way.

However, I feel the character of Adam Warlock was tragically and disappointingly fumbled: There simply wasn't enough of him, which is a shame, considering how good of an actor Will Poulter is. But despite the underutilization of the character, Adam Warlock still manages to be somewhat cool and a tad funny. While GotGV3 doesn’t break new ground in any capacity, it succeeds in doing everything very well. I liked that it wasn’t overly saturated with forced humor, I liked that they didn’t make the main antagonist sympathetic, I liked the cheeky “Among Us” reference… Hell, I liked that they dropped the F-bomb! There are only 2 phase five movies out currently, but "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" is the best one so far.

8/10, Edgy done RIGHT!

I've been feeling lately with the Marvel movies that they've been on the decline and that they wouldn't have much to offer anymore. I've missed a couple of them already. Firstly, after my experience with the previous films and secondly because of the bad reviews. Fortunately, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 brings the spark back to Marvel, at least in my opinion. I had fun. As always, cool action and effects, so there was a lot to watch, however, compared to those other Marvel movies of late, the story here was the best and most memorable of the entire franchise for me. Some moments I really enjoyed and found interesting. Of course, the music was not forgotten either, as in every episode. To sum up. I left the cinema satisfied because, besides the good action, I also took away memories of a good plot that some of the more recent Marvel works lacked. So in the end, I think it's a good thing James Gunn got a chance. For me, a great film that I recommend to both Marvel fans and fans of the franchise. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In reality this movie is closer to a 8.5 but I would feel wrong if I rounded and gave this a 9/10.

I was worried going into this movie. Phase 4 of the MCU has been mixed so far, with some films being better than other projects, and the CGI being of lower quality than normal for a studio like this. Fortunately, this movie is one of the better ones of this phase, and the special effects are all good in this movie. Volume 3 is a lot darker and more serious than I thought it would be, with there being multiple times where the Guardians gruesomely kill others, the exploration of Rocket's backstory of how he and his friends were abused, and how multiple characters almost die. This sadness makes sense though, as the characters have been through quite a bit over the past few movies. The jokes helped balance this movie, since GOTG stories are normally goofy movie with some serious and emotional parts to them. Rocket's backstory is mixed. It is really odd to see cyborg cute animals talking to one another, and in some cases it can be cringey with their dialogue or with their actions. That being said, it was heartbreaking to see them die, and when Rocket went into respiratory arrest and flat-lined, I almost cried. His backstory helps you understand why he is the way he is, and it's nice to see how far he's come since then.

Most of the characters in this movie are well used. The High Evolutionary, the villain, is very effective. He is shown to be a calm person who thought himself as God at first, but it is later revealed that he has a dark side where he is an angry basket-case who won't hesitate to commit genocide in order to create perfection among his creations. I like how the movie makes it clear that all of the Guardians are truly a part of the team and how they all have a part to play in the functioning of the team. The new guy, Adam Warlock, has some funny moments, and it will be interesting to see how he plays out in the future of this cinematic universe. The theme that I took away from this movie was how humanity is imperfect, but that it what makes us people, and our faults can be beautiful. This is the type of deeper messages that I like in stories, so it was nice to see it here. The ending of this movie was a bit cheesy, with the singing being a bit much, and having Groot saying much of anything other than "I am Groot," doesn't bode with me well. That being said, it does well at setting up the future for the next movies.

This entry still proves that Marvel knows what they are doing and how they can still make good content.

James Gunn is a master at threading the needle between absurd humor and heart-felt character drama -- only he could make you feel genuine emotion for a foul-mouthed CGI raccoon. Gunn's long hiatus may have paid off in the end, as it feels like he brought his A-game to his Marvel swan song. Expand

This is a spectacular film with a great story, entertaining scenes and importantly it feels like a comic book movie as if it was a chapter to a more extraordinary story.

Let me grill into this now the things I dislike are, Perhaps too much music and slow-mo used, The Flashbacks that occur a lot through the film, and well Adam Warlock.

These problems dampen the film's effectiveness, during action scenes you want it to be tense fast and fluid.
The music is a bit much and adding slower music to scenes especially scenes with action is a big no unless you use it effectively like Deadpool for example.
The flashbacks aren't a major problem once they are sought through but they happen a bit too frequently at least for my taste least.
And Finally Adam Warlock...He is a simple idiot with hardly any lines but he did my boi StarLord a favour so it's forgiven, for now.

Rating time:
VFX: 9/10, Really nice, again there are very quick scenes where you see some CG trick used but other than that it looks quite good, you can tell by just looking at Rocket.

Dialogue: 7/10, well tolerable and most of the time funny.

Characters: 8/10, the characters are well fleshed out, well most of them.

Story & Plot: 8/10, I think it's a well-put-together story, that is affected by a few pacing issues and a little disrespectful to the time that it uses.

Magus: 0/10, Uh what's this? This is a Special Rating just because Adam Warlock was in it.

So, it's an 8/10, this is definitely in recent years a good MCU movie.
Now there is something I want to recommend, The Guardians of the Galaxy Game, I think the Story in there is either on Par or better than this film, And I highly recommend it(If you haven't got to it already), It is a Hidden Gem that not many people that like TGOTG would think of playing.

Now, James Gunn, I know that when you direct and write a film, you get wrapped up in ideas and start sticking to a formula for that film franchise. Just remember to make the film your own, formulas are only good for templating Ideas and not the final product.

The audience always wants something fresh, nostalgic, and new. This is something hard to do but it is possible, you did it with TGOTG 1, now do it again for Vol 4(whenever that will be).

Anyway, that's it, I think for now this is a good stopping point for the original Guardians Team, let the actors rest a little, and will see what's next in 5+ years. Can we get some Magus up in here? How about a Thanos v Warlock Fight? Galactis?
I don't know, figure it out until then we will be waiting for the next Volume.

It was relieving watching a Marvel movie that had a complete script, no last minute reshoots, completed CGI and special effects. It brought me back to the good old days where Marvel offered a fun entertaining movie with great action and visuals. I even forgot I was watching a Marvel movie towards the end because this movie felt so different from the more recent Marvel films. I was a little indifferent at the beginning, but the more I watched the more interested I was and invested. Every character had time to breathe and it didn't feel rushed. The villain was amazing and Chukwudi Iwuji did a phenomenal job.

What holds this movie back is there was some new characters that I couldn't stand and I cringed whenever they were on screen. This is just a knit pick of mine, but I felt that there were times where James Gunn would play a 80's track in a scene that didn't need it and it felt out of place. Also, there was some unnecessary tension between death and life (that we see a lot in Marvel movies) that didn't pay off and it was frustrating to see that.

Overall I think this is a great superhero movie that is better than Vol.2 and possibly better than the first. I hope this movie is very successful so Marvel takes notice and tries to better themselves in releasing higher quality movies than the garbage that has been released from them recently.

There were some moments of incredible emotional depth, that's hard to think of in another MCU movie besides End Game, No Way Home and maybe a few others. Feigen delivered again.

Great movie, lots of fun, definitely worth watching.

It's very good film, but now no one believes Marvel can make anything good. Better than anything MCU produced since "Endgame" (and we know that bar was very low except "Spider-Man: No Way Home"). Better than anything MCU produced since "Endgame" (and we know that bar was very low except "Spider-Man: No Way Home"). Not the best part of Guardians' trilogy, but make GoG trilogy best in the MCU. Story of Rocket is very good (and quite disturbing), lots of emotions, but the rest is good too... Story arc for all characters is quite satisfying. Nice visuals, good acting. Villain: he is sinister, terrifying and pure evil ("Kang, hello!?! He is better villain and looks like you, just saying"), but no background and good motivation make him little flat... Music was always part of GOG, but this time too much, disconnected, unbalanced and sometimes quite annoying... Probably best "one-shot" scene of all MCU! Adam Warlock: he came out too late to be relevant. I like tone shift of this movie, I like darker and more serious take to GoG, but they afraid to kill any of main characters... No agenda, just film - which is always GOOD!. Overall it's quite good goodbye: end of GOG (?) and James Gunn left MCU. It's time to close this phase of MCU. Probably my last take to MCU till "Deadpool 3"... Expand
