I was laughing myself towards the whole movie. The dialogues was pretty cliche when it comes to the scene of the movie. The fight scene shows like 2 lovers were having argument and in the end it was a walk away , shows over. ha ha Then all ofI was laughing myself towards the whole movie. The movie wasn't bad. I think they tried to intertwine too many storylines that it shorted it from bringing any one of them into excellent fruition, although this is commonplace in this series of movies. There was a lot of beauty and interest, but it had some real issues portraying scale, which sometimes took away from that. Well, all I can really say about Godzilla vs. Kong is this: the film delivers on the action and not so much anything else. I had a blast. I’ve enjoyed all the films leading up to this to varying degrees with Godzilla: King of the MonstersWell, all I can really say about Godzilla vs. Kong is this: the film delivers on the action and not so much anything else. I had a blast. I’ve enjoyed all the films leading up to this to varying degrees with Godzilla: King of the Monsters probably being my personal favorite. I didn’t expect it to be any different than it ended up being, but I had hoped they finally got it right. They didn’t. Humans suck, monsters are awesome. And ya know, as disappointing as it is, I personally am ok with it being that way. Well worth the watch if you’ve been watching up until now and have enjoyed yourself. Otherwise, I’d say staying off the track is probably the best decision for you.… Expand

A bit of a bummer that they let Kong get defeated by Godzilla in "round 3" so easily. Movie would've been better if that hadn't happened.

Beyond that, it's an okay movie.

Been a Godzilla fan for 40 years. But in this movie Godzilla only plays a minor and villainous role. It should be named Kong vs. Godzilla.
Godzilla also seems very weak and small (and stupid - the ocean scene).

It's very much a crowd-pleasing movie that is short and to the point. It is still far from perfect but it is a lot better than the Godzilla films that have come out as of late. I thought the Snyder cut was very poorly written, then I saw Godzilla vs Kong. The fights were great, the rest ranged from bad to imbecilic. They went full on magic with this adaptation, both for the titans but also for the planet andI thought the Snyder cut was very poorly written, then I saw Godzilla vs Kong. The fights were great, the rest ranged from bad to imbecilic. They went full on magic with this adaptation, both for the titans but also for the planet and "technology". They even suggest that Kong made statues and an ampitheater in the past, as well as weapons and was able to figure out a power system. No, I am not kidding. This was 110% style, -10% substance. The writer(s) have no concept of physics, such as what happens when a person is instantly accelerated to a high velocity. Or standing in an area being bombarded with raidoactive breath. But the highest WTF moments were the SUDDEN 'natural' gravity inversion when it would have to be a gradient, Godzilla being able to tunnel to the core of the planet in 60 seconds, or Kong using the axe to block the beam but then raising it above is head yet the beam does not follow a straight line to Kong's face, but is 'drawn' to the axe still. I nearly forgot that bones of the dead do not a supercomputer make. Whomever wrote this should go back and finish gradeschool then they can dream of a highschool diploma. Even the CGI was very hit and miss. The same effect or object could be amazingly bad in one scene, only to be great in the next, and then go right back to cringe. In some scenes they forgot the ambient occlusion totally, making it look really amateurish as it there was global lighting but only for one creature (mostly Kong). I would suggest a good four to five drinks in you before watching this, and then just ignoring everything that is not action. Do that and you may like it more than I did. But you will still likely never want to see this again.… Expand

Meanwhile there isn't a single human character in this film I actually liked; and that includes the ones which came back from previous films. A large chunk of this movie is incredibly boring, with very little monster stuff, just these quirky, annoying characters being annoying. The supplemental action between the titular rivalry is poorly choreographed and just really dull. All in all it's a fun movie to watch with friends for the first time, but there's really nothing left after that. Pretty disappointing.… Expand

Everything on a technical standpoint is fantastic. The visual effects, bright warm colors, and the stand off between these monster legends is spectacular. Everything else, on the'Godzilla VS. Kong' delivers exactly what it says on the tin.

Haven't really watched any other Monsterverse movies besides the first Godzilla movie (although I have seen chunks of Kong: Skull Island on TV once). That said, this movie is alright. I loved all the movies of monsterverse but this one felt little bit weak to me. The main problem was that movie didn't have a appealing plot and improper storytelling. If you are any kaiju, godzilla, or kong fan you'll enjoy the movie. Fantastic story involving the monsters. The more human side of the story was a little short and felt a bit empty, but the movie was about the monsters not the humans. I want more!

It's pretty much everything you'd want in a monster movie with the exception of any interesting human characters. The conspiracy guy, the fat kid, and eleven from stranger things have a side plot that adds literally nothing to the story. Pretty much the entire point of those characters existence is for the reveal of mechagodzilla. Which could of easily been done JUST using the stereotypical evil corporation man. The only character I found interesting was the little girl that could communicate with Kong. At least she had a **** purpose. But I'm ngl I had so much fun with the visuals and fight scenes that it pretty much makes up for lack of well written characters. The writers clearly struggled making the human characters useful. The dumbest scene in the movie was when the fat kid hacked mechagodzilla by pouring liquor on the computer. (Yes that actually happened no joke)

Go watch The Host if you want a monster movie where the characters actually matter. This movie struggles with the exact same things every other modern godzilla movie. **** human parts that get in the way of what we really want apposed to actually adding to the story.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The first meeting between Godzilla and King Kong was in 1962’s King Kong Vs. Godzilla. That movie was ground breaking stuff for that time. This time, exactly why they’re fighting -I Dunno!

Beyond some mumbo jumbo about “ancient rivalries”, it all feels rather a lame excuse to satisfy studios hungry for the next most ambitious crossover event ever.

The film really makes you work for the fun, you have to endure some boring storyline with humans before we get to the good stuff! For Godzilla vs Kong, over 40 minutes ….YES 40 mins of runtime pass until the two titans actually meet, and those minutes feel like a slog, as we’re introduced to lots of lousy story with what we can described as ‘characters’. ..I’m talking about the humans! Any time the monsters are not on screen, in fact, is draining. The plot is simple: Find Kong a new home, because there can't be two apex titans living on Earth's surface. But how to do that? The fabled Hidden World is the answer, bringing scientists played by Alexander Skarsgard and Rebecca Hall together to escort Kong to the hidden world entrance. Tagging along is deaf orphan Jia, played by a ridiculously adorable Kaylee Hottle, who can communicate with the giant gorilla. Jia is deaf—as Hottle is in real life—and she has learned to understand Kong’s thoughts via sign language. She is the only standout character from the humans here.

The scenes between the Jia and KONG, who’s about a kazillion times her size, are the movie’s best, at least as far as the ones involving humans go: It’s not just that she can communicate with Kong. She can feel the vibration of his heartbeat thrumming through the ground, cute.

But then it slows down with Millie Bobby Brown, who played daughter-of-scientists Maddison Russell in the previous movie; Julian Dennison of Deadpool; and Brian Tyree Henry as a podcast-running whistleblower. The plot? Evil Tech Company Apex Cybernetics, linked with making peaceful Godzilla angry. ---huh? Can you do better?

I feel that it’s just exposition plot points to move the story around. The writers should have come up with something, and the best they could come up is the hollow earth theory, with inner core hovercraft technology that transport monsters to another part of earth and the much anticipated Mecha- Godzilla? Its interesting but it seems so out of place in the film.

However when the titans meet, its grade A action stuff! Both really have it out and the CGI is awesome! Even though -SPOILER HERE! Kong loses a few rounds, Godzilla and Kong finally redeem one another in the final act!
Updated adult Kong, with a grizzly beard, has developed a personality. He's kind and gentle to the orphan Jia and observes a morning routine involving yawning comically and scratching his butt. Kong's view is the closeness to the human species, but still -- weirdly -- Godzilla seems underserved. Godzilla is portrayed as the villain here. Sad.
Thankfully, the final battle confuses your senses so much you forget where you are. While the action here is occasionally disjointed and hard to follow, particularly in scenes involving water, it's mostly comprehensible, and especially spectacular in the yellow, green and purple lights of a vibrant Hong Kong. You know you’re really only here for the monsters, squaring off and staring one another down, first at sea and later in the streets of Hong Kong. The final fight in Hong Kong and the monsters towering over skyscrapers its just what dreams are made off. Hmmm I wonder if CHINA would be happy to see Hong Kong destroyed…(wink wink )

You know…. sometimes you just want to switch off and watch a movie to have a fun time. This movie is neither fun or gave me a good time. Sure it had bits of fan service but that's about it. I left the theatre feeling …meh….

Trying to properly review this film is like trying to convince the world that Greedo shot Han Solo first

To sum up the film and its plot holes,….. believe me there are more but I only have one life,... the film tries to create a piece of the monsterverse and well… it has.

Was it a head turner? A film that will be iconic as the original Star Wars? No…not in a million years. This film is this generation of monsters fighting monsters. And you know what? Its an ASIAN thing..the Kaiju films that Japan started way after WW2.

Those films were a commentary of the nuclear bombs dropped on Japan. I guess the west cannot really relate to those films as they were the ones that dropped those bombs.… Expand

Its been a while since I wrote a review about a movie, yet I felt compelled to write one about this one, because I think there has been a general misconception or I don't know, some sort bad realization that the more a movie embraces itsIts been a while since I wrote a review about a movie, yet I felt compelled to write one about this one, because I think there has been a general misconception or I don't know, some sort bad realization that the more a movie embraces its bizarreness or in my point of view, its stupidity, then the better. Such is the case for Godzilla vs. Kong a movie that throws all logic out the window, and looses all of its levity for it, but somehow is praised heavily all around by critics because this is what a movie like this is supposed to be. I would like to differ.

One could argue that having a movie about a giant lizard or a giant monkey terrorizing earth and now fighting each other is already a concept that throws all reasoning down a precipice, but that is the thing, a filmmaker's job, or at least a good filmmaker's objective should be to make us actually care and better yet, to make us question "what if". A good example of this is Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park which also played with an idea that as far as we know is impossible, yet he made it in such a way that made us scared. I am willing to bet that more than one person asked while watching Jurassic Park: "would you imagine if that happened?"- to whoever they went to see it with. There is the magic.

Yet this movie is filled with incredibly simple, generic and absolutely illogical characters that just look incredibly stupid. The villain here could easily fit in any cartoon movie, and so is the scientist who goes a long with Kong. Worst yet, the plot and the whole objective to go to the center of the Earth...its just...too much. The writing here is embarrassing, and it made it frustratingly difficult to finish the movie.

A shame really, because the actual spectacle, the fighting, is pretty cool and plays well with scale, showing off how immense both of this monsters are. But here is whats frustratring about it all: Every outlet talking good on this film talks how amazing the fights are, but how dumb and boring the human parts are, yet because we paid to go see them fight and that delivers, then the movie is worthwhile, but such is not the case, not by a long shot. Considering the fighting is only a quarter of the whole movie, its simply not worth it, and worst yet, it just feels like a lost opportunity to truly make something special and memorable.

All of this comes as a result of the incredibly flat idea, that the less human plot we have on this type of films the better because people just want to see what they want to see, the spectacle, but with movies like this where I saw how bored and uninterested my family was while watching it (FYI: They love this kind of monster/disaster type of movies), and how disappointed I was myself, it just made it abundantly clear how important good characters and good plot are, even with this type of movies.… Expand

To get it out of the way, the monster fight scenes are astounding in this film, the CGI is some the of the best I've ever seen, the soundtrack is badass. And that's it. Everything else kind of sucks.

Godzilla vs Kong is the latest Monsterverse film, and may even be the worst and dumbest of the series - despite the abundant fan service.

As is usual for the series, the human factor is awful, dumb and annoying. Why on Earth does MillieGodzilla vs Kong is the latest Monsterverse film, and may even be the worst and dumbest of the series - despite the abundant fan service.

As is usual for the series, the human factor is awful, dumb and annoying. Why on Earth does Millie Bobby Brown return as Madison Russell, she does absolutely nothing in this movie (at least in the previous movie she played a tiny role in the plot, which was an improvement compared with the new movie where she is non existent). Why on Earth does the Monarch organization appear again, they do nothing and never join the fight or even become a part of the plot. Last but not least, I can't stand that conspiracy theorist who has become the new hero of the movie. Or that fat kid who saves the day in the most ridiculous way (I mean how on Earth does alcohol short circuit a giant robot from a couple miles away?).

The kaiju part though is spectacular. We finally see Godzilla and King Kong go toe to toe on multiple occasions, and in the end Godzilla emerges victorious after an awesome scene where Godzilla and Kong scream at each other face-to-face for half a minute, just like 2 animals fight for supremacy in the wild.

But even the kaiju part is far from perfect. So far we've seen these giant monsters being heavy and slow, and now we see Godzilla run towards his enemies, as if we were viewing an old film with actors wearing rubber suits. Also Godzilla has an infinite supply of Atomic Breath with no cooldown, and poor Kong almost gets massacred.

The most beautiful part of the movie was the Hollow Earth where Kong travels to his ancestral home and some humans are following behind. Also Kong finds a new weapon in the depths of the planet.

If the movie stopped at the fight between Godzilla and Kong it would have been good enough ("good" in relative terms). But no, the director decides to throw Mecha-Godzilla in the mix as the cherry on the top, just to turn an average movie definitely into a bad one. Mecha-Godzilla (who is implied to be under the influence of one of King Ghidorah's severed heads who dies in the previous film) easily overpowers both Godzilla and Kong and they finally defeat the robot by working together. But before that can happen, the fat kid had to throw some alcohol into some electric station so that he short-circuits the robot due to some out-of-nowhere logic. *sigh*

With this being apparently the final Monsterverse movie, I can only recommend people watch 2017's Kong: Skull Island and 2014's Godzilla movies. Watch 2019's Godzilla: King of the Monsters and 2021's Godzilla vs. Kong at your own peril.… Expand

The reasons given for the conflict are ridiculous, but that's fair. Because although you can give thousands of reasons, what most people want to see are the fights between these two titans.

But the movie only gives you about 20 minutes of that, and the rest is pure filler.

A lot of people say that you can overlook the narrative lines that involve humans, but I can't do that.
How can I do that when the creator are so interested in the opposite? But it's just ridiculous considering how irrelevant they are.

In Godzilla: King of the Monsters Kyle Chandler's character just wanted to save his daughter, the character played by Millie Bobby Brown.
Here, he doesn't give a damn about her.
That's just a reflection of what this movie is. At least as far as the human characters imply.

Godzilla and Kong have their moments of CGI splendor. Entertaining of course, ultimately completely empty.

It's a sight for the eyes, very true, but it's just that.
I didn't take anything from this movie. Not even a bit of awe.

Trash. Story is garbage, acting is crap, but there is so little script, not much to judge on. Kong and Godzilla keep changing size, so there is no perspective. CGI is kinda cool, but that is it. Flush it.

An absolute blast of a film that gets worse the more you think about it. What I will give this film is that it’s very off the wall. What I will give this film is that it’s very off the wall. It’s the most out there film of the Monsterverse but it’s arguably the worst when it comes to characters and writing. The characters are absolutely atrocious. None of them are relatable at all and have almost no motivation or reason to be in the story. When the story focuses on the characters, it becomes an absolute drag. It’s unbearable at points because the dialogue is terrible. I know some might say that the characters aren’t the important part of the film and that’s true but the characters are essential for some of these events to happen so they can’t be overlooked. The action between Godzilla and Kong is pretty good. It’s not great but it’s entertaining and has its moments although sometimes, the story gets too weird for me to think about. The more I think about the story, the more disjointed and weaker it becomes. It’s good in the moment but not very good the more you think about. The visual effects though are pretty great. Godzilla and Kong look very really and some of these environments look great. The directing is passable at best. I’m not a big fan of Adam Wingard though so that might be why. The music is good at points and incredibly forgettable at others. I can’t remember a single piece of music from the film. Godzilla vs Kong is definitely entertaining but it’s probably better to watch with friends than on your own.… Expand

Godzilla 2014 is good, Godzilla King of the Monster is fantastic, Godzilla vs. Kong is a mess. Long story short the movie is mediocre. Long story short the movie is mediocre. The story is brainless it's a movie about giant monsters smacking the **** out of each other but the rest of the franchise is consistent internally. Now the breakdown. The story like I mentioned is an absolute mess. The movie feels rushed and nothing happens for a reason. People turn on Godzilla despite the titan having a clear MO. The reason to move Kong is just there to move Kong. The constant cut from subplot to subplot is a drag. And in the end even the big fight is not fun because the monsters can take all the damage and the gratuities destruction fells hollow. The characters are pointless. They are there just to move the "plot" from one point to another. The lady in charge of Kong is for lack of a better word just stupid. She studied Kong for ten years but somehow missed that the monkey learned sign language. A former MONARCH worker tells her he needs Kong and why and she just says "ok". Mark Russell tossed all he learned from the last movie out. Madison is in the movie because reasons. The bad guy is in the movie just to die and the rest are even less impressive. But the worst part is that when the "villains" get wasted it's not even gratifying. The world is ridiculous. The first movies show a normal level of technology and explain to an extent what MONARCH is. In this movie we are met with Sci-Fi levels of tech. Borderline spaceships that repel gravity. The way into the hollow earth is a Star Trek level slip-gate. The "civilization" of ape titans made ZERO sense. A random corporation that has a mag-lev delivery tunnel from the the US to Hong Kong. Kong is en enormous enclosure that had screens all over it's interior. Energy can be recreated by downloading it's signature and on and on... The fights are just stupid. The amount of damage the monsters can take is unbelievable even for a movie like this especially when you have seen the rest of them. In the rest of the movies Godzilla's atomic breath was used sparingly in this one he is projectile vomiting it. And how many times can it get interrupted? Mechagodzilla is a huge disappointment. It shows up. It's overpowered. It dominates Godzilla. And it gets taken out in one minute.

The movie could have had a decent script, Mechagodzilla could have been a good antagonist instead of showing up at the end and getting destroyed in several hits and the fights could have had more weight to them. This movie could have been awesome instead it's an absolute mess with zero to no payoff.… Expand

Yeah no , how this has a better rating than Snyders Cut in the critics review is mind boggling. It's not worth more than a 4 because this kind of movie has been done better in a lot of ways. Noticeable effort with lots of different elements but nothing seems to jell properly and it just ends up being boring. This was the first movie I saw back at the cinema, what a disappointment. The casting is bad, especially Millie Bobbie Brown and the Kiwi kid who just come across terribly. Probably a good one too see with the kids as they will enjoy the spectacle. Some really impressive CGI as well which was cool too see. Would shred the disc if I had it on bluray though.… Expand

I wanted to like this movie so much, but it feels like it was written by a 10 year old. The story is so convoluted. It seems like half of the movie was devoted to finding Kong’s axe. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is Michael Bay Transformers-level dumb. There's a set of annoying human side characters whose story is mostly pointless. Physics, scale and common sense are thrown out the window. At one scene the 2 are fighting on an aircraft carrier, in another they are taller than all of the buildings in Hong Kong. I did like that we got to see the inner Earth part of the story, but why did they need Kong to lead them down a hole where gravity does most of the work? And who or what built the shrine/temple down there? A giant Axe makes us believe that the apes are capable of making tools and building structures? Then why didn't Kong or any of his kind do anything like that on Skull Island for thousands of years? Also, this story reminds me so much of Batman vs Superman, where a conflict is quickly forced between the two headliners and just as quickly resolved. One super-awesome nod to Pacific Rim was the "pilot!" linking with the mechagodzilla. So I'm hoping that's where they go next... but good God, get some better writers.… Expand

Although the characters that really matter (the monsters) are very well done, the plots of these films are so poorly written, and that is why there are so many things to be overseen, that I often haveThe Monsterverse has too many drawbacks. Although the characters that really matter (the monsters) are very well done, the plots of these films are so poorly written, and that is why there are so many things to be overseen, that I often have to skip scenes to be able to continue watching the film satisfactorily.

I don't think this argument that "it's a monster movie" is valid all the time to pass up the flaws that the movies constantly present. Yes, it's okay to use it once, twice or even three times, but the unreality of two giant monsters fighting is on par with that of technological and alien geniuses fighting to save the universe from a space eggplant. It is not as if well-written scripts have not made credible stories about elves and hobbits saving the world with a ring, space cowboys saving princesses from tyrants or even world domination by machines. A well-written script makes any stupid idea into a genius one, and a poorly written script even makes great ideas borderline stupid. In comparison with other cinematographic universes and other films and sagas, the monsterverse leaves something to be desired by requiring so many times a suspension of disbelief to be done. The most interesting thing is that this suspension does not need to be done because it is kaijus or monsters fighting, but to accept the ill excuses and motivations without explanations of the human characters.

After watching Godzilla vs. Kong I realized that I was no longer so willing to give more and more chances to Monterverse films with poorly written scripts. I will wait for the next films, and hopefully there will be many, simply because the monsters are very cool, but so far none of the four films released had so much to please me.… Expand

-you get probably three rounds of godzilla vs. kong and more screen time for them.
-Excellent music score.

The bad:

-It feels like the animated battles between the titans have been downgraded quite a bit. There's no weight or feel of mass in the titans when they move. They all move so swiftly with speed, making the titans possess rather unrealistic movements.

-The camera work for the titans' battles also feels underwhelming. They don't appear as huge or gigantic compared to the other MonsterVerse movies. -Maybe a bit too much CGI, but I guess I've been spoiled with a combination of practical effects and CGI.

-I feel like the fight choreography for the monsters could be a bit better because there's barely suspense to who's winning or losing compared to the other movies. Because of the rather clunky animation, it feels like the graphics have been downgraded as well. However, Mechagodzilla was rather well-animated, in my opinion.

-Mechagodzilla had such little screen time, I felt like they should have prolonged the fight quite a bit and showcase more of his powers.

-Too many deus ex machina moments. Godzilla just so happens to drill that hole down for Kong and the humans to escape, in time to fight. Very disappointed that the spilled whiskey somehow turned the tide of the war. Could have let them fight more.

-Very annoying human characters. Especially the fat kid with the glasses. Everything he said was trying to put humor but they turn out to be very forced and unoriginal.

-Would have been awesome to again have Tywin Lannister pilot Mechagodzilla instead since he was the one who found King Ghidorah's head in the previous movie.

-Just ignore the script and the plot. Nothing from the humans barely make sense. From encountering no security sneaking about a top research base, to Kong learning sign language without the researchers' knowledge to the anti-gravitational ship providing as a resuscitation device for revive Kong and alongside others, it's best for you to focus on the titans' battles.… Expand

- they even got the gorilla chest punch wrong
- sometimes epic CGI, sometimes just rubbish and idiotic physics, even for a monster movie
- completely illogical and dumb plot decisions just to drive the plot forward - impenetrable plot armour
- characters are utterly underdeveloped, stereotyped and forgettable (people who gave this movie a 10/10 probably identified with these exact characters very much)
- I don't even know who the main character of this movie was. Was it the dude? The one who was a theoretical scientist, who turned into a military man who could fly sophisticated vehicles and coordinate rocket attacks?

This movie is less than mediocre.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Honestly I feel this movie had so much potential but it missed its mark by a mile plus some. Don’t get me wrong the movie is climatic and has a story line you can follow with decent graphics but the build up for this movie was overhyped I feel a couple changes this movie is one for the age a classic to this crappy decade. I saw a angry fat lizard and a man in a monkey costume fight. I feel if kong had more of a “kong”look like In 2005 starring Naomi Watts, Jacc Blacc and , Adrien Brody it would’ve gave a more aggressive look instead of a ape man walking 50 feet tall speaking of heights let’s not start on how nerfed Godzilla had to be to compete in this movie or be I’m alone it will really be a shame if he stays this size in future movies as in Godzilla i and Godzilla king of monsters he stood a grand (2014) height: 355 ft tall length: 550ft 4in then in (2019) heigh: 393ft tall length: 582ft where in Godzilla vs Kong Godzilla comes in with a height of “ 177 meters” and Kong coming in at around “107 meters” but honestly if we take a closer look they probably stand if I’m being nice 200 to 300 feet tops and that’s if I’m being nice major nerf on Godzilla’s part but kong like I said before just didn’t evolve as much as Godzilla and I know that there’s some speculation about physics and gravity and food to keep up with there weight etc but it’s a movie we know it’s not real we can bring non logical things into play and still have rules for it make it make sense that’s an invalid excuse and it’s contradicting as hell. I will jump bacc to that later but let’s talk about the actors and visuals all in all the graphics of the movie were nice there were some iffy parts but other than that well done drew me in grabbed my attention as an audience now acting I know human story line doesn’t matter in a titan vs titan championship match we don’t care who gets the girl in this one just shows me the plasma beams and beating chests but the main characters we were given in this movie lacced emotion and skill with big open eyes and powerful facial expressions they let me know I’m watching a movie about a giant monkey suit man and a cranky over weight gecco if I’m being brutally honest it was a movie with a bunch of amateurs with to many close ups with a couple of point of view shots trying to get paid. Also where is the security “apex” after building there super weapon in the movie had all the money in the world it seemed like training with other titans perfecting there technology constructing a metal strong enough to fight with Godzilla that they forgot to hire more than to people to protect the base as to where 3 kids could sneak into the facility and let there number one reason for being a company blow up in there fave it’s like they quit and became civilians who stayed to watch the post fight at the end of the movie Though it did have its moments in the movie that were actually good you can tell this was a movie for a beginning crew cough cough an “ Adam wingard vision” instead of a very much needed “Michael Dougherty” vision lots of work that needs to be done you can tell it’s not a legendary Godzilla you could compare to the one we saw fight king ghidorah with at least 30 fighter jets swarming Godzilla like flies while he enters the arena to save emma with red eyes instead of brown it seems the atomic explosion took a lot out of the big guy and hopefully his offspring is out working hard and could be 2xs the size he ever was because as of two years ago Godzilla would’ve never been able to step one foot on a navy ship let alone let missiles hurt him if they would’ve kept Godzilla at that same intensity and gave kong some more gorilla like features while beefing him up as well this movie would’ve been been 1000 percent better with a decent actors who know a camera is going to be recording them and an criticizing audience watching this could be a banger but fr night it’s a meh wouldn’t spend money on anything else like it unless some major changes took into play mechagodzilla was dope tho mechanic ghidorah next don’t let me down… again!… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As with the problem with most of these movies, the humans play a central role in ruining the experience. It follows the trend of Marvel, having characters who's only job is comic relief and Ex Machinas that clearly had no thought put into them. This wouldn't be as bad if the jokes actually landed. When it comes to fights I would expect a movie titled "Godzilla vs Kong" to have more of just that. Instead we're given 2 fights in which are both ended anticlimactically. You can argue that there were other fights, but those are simply just our Monsters wrecking shop on inferior humans/monsters. When we're not watching what's admittedly good fight scenes, we're stuck with the humans. This takes you out of the fast paced action for exposition in which most isn't explained. it's completely fine to have a one or two characters built for comic relief, but when everyone is made to be a comedian it becomes a snooze fest fast. The best scene to describe this movie is when Gidorah kills only one of the characters encased in a small room instead of doing what you'd expect and wrecking shop on everything in his way. He simply swiped at a man, and turns away. This of course leaves the Ex Machina providers alive to pour liquor on what I can only assume is a multi thousand dollar control panel, allowing Mecha Godzilla's weapons system to fail. Yes, that's right. A multimillion, if not trillion dollar war machine is operated by one single console and has absolutely no back up access points. It's completely absurd decisions like this in which spelled this movie's downfall. I'm confused as to why we allow movies to give us the bare minimum effort and we in return fill their pockets to the brim. If you like monsters fighting, I recommend you watch King of the Monsters. Keep your money, this movie is only worth clips on YouTube..… Expand

Giant ape punches things. Giant lizard punches things. At one point they punch each other. Then they team up to punch a mecha lizard. Bland, underdeveloped humans react. It's exactly what you'd expect, but on IMAX!

It's obviously meant to be a purely visual feast, and, on that score, it does a passable job, with some dazzling special effects (but many that are also outright silly and eminently laughable). Then there's the story, which is devoid of coherence while perfecting the art of monodimensional character development. Much of the film comes across as if it were being told by a rambling five-year-old ("...this happened, and then this happened, then this happened, then this exploded, and..."). But, worst of all, by the time the picture comes to wrapping things up, it just goes on and on, turning terminally boring, if not sleep inducing. Unless you have an extreme craving for junk food cinema, don't waste your time with this mess.… Expand

I'm giving this movie a low score just on the notion alone. An oversized monkey that got captured and stuffed inside a cage and shipped to New York on an old steamer, but escaped, only to be taken down by half a dozen old bi-planes, versus aI'm giving this movie a low score just on the notion alone. Legendaryreally needs to stop making Godzilla movies. They are no good at it. Somehow even worse than KOTM. A big yawn from me. Even though Kong is actually well realized, and Godzilla is better than he was in the last two, the human characters in this movie are excruciatingly annoying and lame. This film is pure garbage, you need to be devoid of any brain cells to think this nonsense is worth a 10 rating. The 2014 Godzilla is better in every respect than this idiocy.

Come on, the movie has really good special effects, but the story is much favored by the script that this one is the king of monsters, it's so powerful that it makes a bottle of wiske manage to defeat MECHAGODZILLA. the film sins a lot with the script always contradicting itself for example if that ship uses energy that would feed Vegas for a week, why use that old energy and how godzilla never attacked the base of MECHAGODZILLA is simply pathetic, even if lovecraft inspiration is cool.

One of a handful of movies in my life I seriously considered walking out of in the middle. My wife left 1/2 way through, but I stuck it out. This movie was just bad from start to finish. It didn't introduce any of the new characters or why we should care. But the story and more so, characters just completely ruined it and were not even in the realm of being remotely believable.

This needed to be a story about kong and godzilla and instead it was filled up with pointless characters such as two high school kids that break into a top level tech factory and try cracking the security on the computer of the most highly advanced project in the world. Seriously?!

The teenage girl is just BAD! The dominant 'alpha'...as a teenage girl. The teenage boy is a bumbling fool. The guy researcher is a bumbling fool that then suddenly saves kong and knows how to fly an experimental ship. The daughter of the tech dude is an alpha male that just offers nothing to the story. The only half decent character is the female researcher.

The motives of all these characters are horrible. The story is just plain pointless.

Just don't bother with this one.

It's akin to the first predator vs alien movie. Just an absolute waste of time and I found myself not turning off only because I'd committed 30 minutes of my time to it hoping it'd get better. Sesame Street is more interested that this junk.

And there's hardly enough fight scenes to justify people talking this up as 'watching it to see the fight scenes'. There's more fight in my 1 foot chihuahua than this movie!… Expand

This got so bad it actually crosses the line from 'a utter joke' into 'utterly offensive'. when you have a 300m lizard and a 300m ape, that were only previously about 100m, start having a wrestling match and then screaming in each others faces like goddamn human children, it's clear the film makers have no respect for these monumental characters. you can add to that things like the magical axe, and the woman who thinks it's a good idea to shoot at the calm giant ape rather than just hot foot it out of there... I honestly don't know how they could have possibly made this any worse.
this is not only an insult to the Japanese Godzilla, it is an insult to Legendary's own godzilla movies that came before this.… Expand

This is a mindless, plotless action flick with great action and effects but not much else. The plot is mundane, ridiculous and predictable. Much of it didn't even make any sense, because nothing is adequately explained. The acting is mostly awful. The editing made it difficult to follow what little plot there was. Actually the whole series of movies in this rebirth have all been really bad and this just continues that tradition. I am at a complete loss to explain the high ratings some people have given it and cannot recommend it all. Seriously don't bother with this..… Expand

I was disappointed by the poor consistency of scale and glorifying of Alex Jones type conspiracy theory. the visual effects were entertaining but if intelligence and plot aren't present then you might as well be watching jingling keys. I would recommend skipping this one and watching 'shin godzilla' instead. at least THAT movie managed to maintain my disbelief instead of insulting basic logic and continuity.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So we've developed anti gravity and aircraft engines that can power small cities yet we've failed to notice the earth is hollow? It's good thing this is a CGI special effects movies because they didn't leave much in the budget for a script. And what little is there requires you to put you brain in 'do not disturb' mode for a couple hours. But considering it's a special effects movie the CGI is pretty hit and miss. In Kongs intro scene you get a great shot of him waking up in the morning, walking to the shower(waterfall) as he scratches his butt in the morning sun. But for Godzilla they have him surging up out of the ocean with his mouth open. It should have been an equally great scene with rivers of water running out of his huge mouth but they obscure it all in a big cheesy looking water mist cloud like they ran out of money mid effect so his big intro is very underwhelming. And it's like that through out. A varied mix of quality. But I need more than CGI anyway. I'm certain there were humans in it but I can't really remember any of them. But they are pretty much as superfluous as the script anyway. If you like effects movies and don't care much about the plot you might like it.… Expand

C’est un véritable… festival d’absurdités et d’inepties qui partent dans tous les sens : une catastrophe ! des **** cons qui mettent à jour un complot (ololol) à propos d’un mégalomane (on dirait Elon Musk, non ?) et de son gros robot (tout buggué évidemment) ; une gamine muette qui parle par signes à King Kong (lol ?) ; des trous du cul qui vont au centre de la Terre avec des vaisseaux spatiaux (quoi ?!) et j’en passe… et des pires.

En plus, ça se traîne carrément, ça bavarde et ça raconte de la merde… et ça meuble ! alors qu’on attend la prochaine scène d’action, laquelle s’avère en fin de compte aussi décevante que la précédente. Et pourtant, c’est peau de chagrin à cet égard… Une baston dans la flotte (aucun intérêt) et une ville oui… mais la nuit, ce qui permet de limiter les ‘fameux’ effets spéciaux puisqu’on voit rien… ou presque !

Bref, du foutage de gueule et de la grosse merde de A à Z, ce combat de ‘titans' ! navrant et pitoyable.… Expand

The entire movie is illogical, unexplained and contrived. The characters are mostly unlikable, and you can pretty much cut out everything until the last ten minutes where Kong and Godzilla beat the **** out of MechaGodzilla.
