Hope you all are staying safe out there and not using Lysol as COVID-19 medicine. This week instead of cleaning ourselves with Lysol or bleach we had the chance to watch the Netflix debut of Extraction. It's a long awaited Chris Hemsworth film, based upon a graphic novel "Cuidad", that promises action sequence upon action sequence, death-defying stunts by the top stuntmen in the game and brutally needed entertainment. The movie follows Tyler Rake (Hemsworth), a fearless black market mercenary, as he accepts the opportunity for the most deadly extraction of his career - a plot to extract a teenager out of the grasp of his imprisoned father's rival. Let's see if Extraction is worth all the hype.

Now, since I don't want to bring any bad karma on myself, I'm only going to speak about the good things about this movie. NAHHHH! I'm just playing. Don't get me wrong, I love John Wick movies, but the third one had minimal storyline, if any, and all action. That's exactly Extraction. That's not necessarily a horrible thing if that is what you're looking for; but, it becomes an issue when the producers attempt to wedge in a meaningful storyline and it just tanks. I'm not saying that I didn't care about my boy, Thor, but let's be honest it doesn't matter if he survives as long as he kicks major butt along the way. Also, there's no set up to care about the kid either so who cares if people are chasing after them. On top of that, the writing and editing of certain scenes just never pushed the viewer to care. The quieter scenes seem so forced and you're just sitting there screaming, "Get back to the killing!"

Ok, great, I'll get back to the killing as well. Can someone finally explain why military/special forces/police trained soldiers are soooo terrible at shooting one man in these type of movies? I mean really it has gotten bad in these type of movies. I'm okay with the suspension of belief for a little bit but good grief, Charlie Brown. At least the sequences are clear, vivid and seamless. The filming and setting of the movie is pretty amazing.

Nevertheless, Extraction does provide some really good action sequences. Truly, these sequences are pretty close to John Wick sequences and in fact a couple of them seem to be outright bitten or borrowed from that franchise. If anything, there is too much action; but let's be real there's never too much. On top of that, Chris Hemsworth really excels in this brutal role. He transitioned very well between super soldier and father figure. He should definitely take on a few more roles like this, but hopefully the movie would have a bit more comedy, like a Die Hard type role.

Needless to say, action fans you’ll be in for a treat with a fresh box of popcorn. Between great sequences and bodies falling everywhere, you all will enjoy. For everyone else, this more of a handful of streaming kernels. There is not enough storyline or depth in characters to get you to be invested in them to rush you to watch Extraction. In fact, this movie is so brutal and gory that you might be turned off from watching the movie anyway. You can stream it if bored but I hope you don’t have a soft stomach.… Expand

His skills are the standout: insane car chases, intense fights, absurd body count and incredible camerawork. Other than the almost-continuous well-staged violence, there's not much about the plot or performances that matters. Fans of the genre will get plenty of bruises and blows.… Expand

As far as action movies go, this is top notch. Great camera work, and very good work at stitching scenes together to immerse you into the action and the story.

People that are worried about proper dialect, and things like that, are losing focus that this is a movie. I bet if you took any movie with foreign speaking dialects, and had the people from those countries review it, we would come away with the same type of biased ratings this movie is getting. Then when people say it's a bad storyline, they're losing focus of the intended story. They are not looking at the movie as a whole. All the acting is fantastic, and as an American, without knowing the proper dialect, thought the Indian actors did exceptionally well. great expression of emotion, and in fact they're acting drew me into the movie more. So those who are worried about proper dialect, take it from a white guy,I thought it represented the acting talent of your people very well. I don't think an action movie like this could have been as good if you would have put more Americans in it. That's because we get so caught up in one-liners and boxy and canned statements when it comes to action movies. This movie had drama, and pulled at the heartstrings when you understand the backdrop of those trying to save the kid. I would put this right up there with John wick, but I thought the acting was just as good and if not better. The fight scenes were more crisp, and did not input politically correct ideologies. It just was a good action movie, with good acting, that grabs several emotions that most action movies don't accomplish. I honestly don't know how anyone could give this movie less than a seven or eight. I would like to see their top 10 list of action movies and I bet you will see this movie would rank in any of those 10 and if not higher.… Expand

But cooler. if you are into military movies for civilians stuff watch it and if your a vet got watch Vet-tv but this is a good side bar movie. I’d give it a 100/10 bc it give you nice fights like in John wick movies. Chris Hemsworth Does a amazing job in another military like role. I loved this movie. It is a simple rescue mission gone bad story, but it does it all in a really cool, fun and violent way. You get to care for the characters and the actors give some great performances. Action scenes are pulled off excellently.

The 12-Minute, One-Shot Action Scene alone worth the vision of this film. If you are a fan of the genre this is the right movie. A little gem in Netflix Library.… Expand

Extraction really clicked for me. It's a solid action flick. Don't watch it for the plot, as it's quite basic. It's a story that's been told before. Anyone who can't see this needs to re-watch some of these scenes in Extraction. We've got long single-shot (seemingly)scenes with incredible camera work, flying impossibly in all directions while the action is non stop and thrilling. I've seen COUNTLESS tough-guy movies just like this that are of a much poorer caliber. Extraction is solid film-making and a fun ride. The ending didn't really satisfy me though. There's no message or theme to walk away with.

The older I get the more convinced that most critics and 40% of the public are full of #$@%. And hey, whatever, that's fine. No skin off my back. I'm just glad I have my own taste and can form my own opinions without looking to others or the status quo for direction. So many people don't have that. So I'm lucky, I guess.… Expand

Aimless action. The whole film are two hours that go pretty much nowhere.

A great stunt work, yes, but a very bad job in the special effects.
Many of the scenes involving visual effects look really bad.

Chris Hemsworth at least departs from the role of the muscular funny guy and delivers a more sober performance but it's hardly a performance that separates him from what he has been doing so far.

There are people who will enjoy a film like this one and obviously it was made for that audience, for my part, I will hardly think about it again.… Expand

Amazing action and Chris really carries the role. The movie had great action sequences, almost like a real life John Wick. Story lacked a bit but actions was good all around but Chris definitely helped carry the movie a lot.

A seemingly easy mission goes wrong, and the two has to fight their way out of a locked down city. Seems original? well It is not. However it is largely carried by Hemsworth and Randeep Hooda who does a great role. But there is little character development going on.
on a large scale it is backed up by very close quarter tactical combat action. Other than this, there is not much to say about Extraction. It is a good filler for Sunday.… Expand

This might be a great action movie but Bangladesh is not a war torned African country. People doesn't roam around with machine guns , let alone teenagers. How come Police and Army of a country support mafia? C'mon, this is just too much. Just study a bit before you tarnish a country's name. Bangladesh is nothing like this. This movie has great action and probably will be studied for these but it also made Bangladesh seem bad towards the world. May be no action will be taken but they should apologize or atleast change the name to some fictional country like Wakanda!!!
P.S. Bangladeshi people wear far better clothes.… Expand

And when the shooting was done elsewhere (only plate shots were taken in Dhaka) what would you expect? Lack of research and knowledge ruins the movie. Bangla doesn’t sound like Bangla. Bangali doesn't look like Bangali. If you want to make a movie on a Bangladeshi plot, you’ve got to shoot here, cast local actors and at least try to be as authentic you can be.Dhaka doesn’t seem Dhaka.

Just because it's a bloody action movie, doesn't mean that you gotta get every single fact wrong.

Most importantly, a big foreign guy like Hemmy doesn't just go around talking suspiciously on the phone in broad daylight in the middle of a busy street in Dhaka without attracting huge crowd.

60 something year old leader of a law & enforcement starts sniping and accurately killing people by headshots from quite a distance? Give me a break! That's superhero stuff. Wait..

Action was good, but nothing spectacular or ground-breaking by today's standard.… Expand

'Extraction' is a fun popcorn action movie.... but man does it get brutal.

The best compliment I can give to this movie, besides the action scenes, was having the balls to harm or flat out kill children, which took me by surprise, but'Extraction' is a fun popcorn action movie.... but man does it get brutal.

The best compliment I can give to this movie, besides the action scenes, was having the balls to harm or flat out kill children, which took me by surprise, but immediately got my attention.

The action scenes are the highlight of the movie, of course. I know this is a tired phrase when it comes to movies with a grand spectacle, but some of the action scenes in this movie really did feel like a video game. I think it has to do with the 11-minute-long take, camera work, and the intense detail to action set pieces that was executed wonderfully. The fight scenes and shoot outs have not been this sharp in a while.

Chris Hemsworth is a strong leading man, while also displaying some dramatic acting chops. The actor, who played the boy, was not as annoying as I thought he will be. Also, David Harbour is an absolute beast, especially next to Hemsworth.

However, it does have some problems. The main villain is so paper thin and forgettable that when the movie ends, you are not going to remember him.

I do not get why in these Hollywood action movies where foreign countries have this ugly colour palette. This movie is no different, even down to the same colour, which is muddy piss.

The movie has a plot, just a simple one. It is cliched as well, with the main character (Hemsworth) losing his son many years ago in a galaxy far far away. You've seen this trope before. Then again, the audience are not here for deep storytelling. Just give them action and they will be entertained. There is nothing wrong with that.

Overall rating: Solid entertainment, which is what we need right now, especially at this strange time of our lives.… Expand

Well-made action flick. Some great cinematography. The only weird thing is that they try to combine sentimentality with a really high body count of police and military who I guess are supposed to be bad guys, but that's not even totallyWell-made action flick. The only weird thing is that they try to combine sentimentality with a really high body count of police and military who I guess are supposed to be bad guys, but that's not even totally clear. If you like Chris Hemsworth & action-mystery movies you can give it a try.I would say Extraction is a average movie in every way.Golshifteh Farahani acted well.Finally as a Bangladeshi I will say Dhaka is wrongly presented in this movie.

An absolute fantastic movie, from start to finish, really makes you grip your seat throughout the movie. If you love John Wick, Atomic blonde, then this is a treat. Please ignore the bad reviews, just watch it. Really excellent movie.

Extraction is an extremely generic and forgettable, yet still mildly entertaining. The actions scenes are excellent and Chris Hemsworth is great. Everything else is just okay.

#Extraction মুভি টা দেখলাম Netflix এ - বাংলাদেশ কে যুদ্ধবিধ্বস্ত সোমালিয়ার মোগাদিসু টাইপ হিসেবে রিপ্রেজেন্ট করা হয়েছে - সামরিক বাহিনীর সব এলিমেন্টকে খুব হেয় করে উপস্থাপন করা হয়েছে - সেনা বাহিনী কে তো বটেই আবার RAB কে বানানো হয়েছে আন্ডার#Extraction মুভি টা দেখলাম Netflix এ - বাংলাদেশ কে যুদ্ধবিধ্বস্ত সোমালিয়ার মোগাদিসু টাইপ হিসেবে রিপ্রেজেন্ট করা হয়েছে - সামরিক বাহিনীর সব এলিমেন্টকে খুব হেয় করে উপস্থাপন করা হয়েছে - সেনা বাহিনী কে তো বটেই আবার RAB কে বানানো হয়েছে আন্ডার গ্রাউন্ডের সহযোগী। RAB এর কর্নেল বজলুল কে ( সিনেমার রোল) বানানো হয়েছে সন্ত্রাসের সহযোগী। ইন্ডিয়ান সন্ত্রাসী গোষ্টি বাংলাদেশে ঢূকে একটা বাচ্চাকে উদ্ধার করে নিয়ে যায় তাও আবার হেলিকপ্টার অপারেশন করে - সুলতানা কামাল ব্রিজে সিনেমার শেষ অংশ এভাবেই ধারন করা হয়। সিনেমার মদ্ধা কথা - বাংলাদেশের যে কোন এলিট ফোর্স কে ইন্ডিয়ান সন্ত্রাসীরা বুড়ো আংগুল দেখাতে পারে। সিনেমায় সরাসরি কোন দেশের অফিশিয়াল বিভিন্ন সংস্থার রেং বেজ কিম্বা দপ্তর দেখানোর সম্ভবত পুর্ব অনুমতি লাগে এবং স্ক্রিপ্ট জমা দেয়া লাগে - অনেক সময় সত্য ঘটনা গুলোতে ইউজ করা যায় কিন্তু ইন্ডিয়ান রা এই রকম একটা গাঞ্জা খুরি চলচিত্র বানালো আমাদের সমস্থ সামরিক আধা সামরিক বাহিনীকে ব্যাবহার করে - তাতে সরকার এখনো প্রতিবাদ কিম্বা এই সিনেমা ব্যান করার কোন উদ্দোগ নেয় নাই তাতে আশ্চর্য হওয়া ছাড়া কি করার আছে - ওরা সিনেমা বানায়ে সারা বিশ্বকে দেখাতে চায় বাংলাদেশ সন্ত্রাসের দেশ -আর এদের এলিট ফোর্স গুলাও সন্ত্রাসীদের সহযোগী এবং ধইঞ্চা - ইন্ডিয়ান রা সাধারন সন্ত্রাসী দিয়ে বাংলাদেশের ভিতরে সন্ত্রাস দমন করে - হুদাই কি কয়েকদিন ধইরা লাফাইতেছে ইন্দিয়ান আর্মী। ভালতো।… Expand

What the hell ? This is not John Wick. The gun fight just everywhere, make me tired. I can't understand the purpose of the main characters. Can't understand what story behind him. Going to try and keep this short and spoiler free - Generic action movie with a plot we have all seen many times before, and several scenes are pretty much taken from other movies.... However the secret sauce here in the execution. TheGoing to try and keep this short and spoiler free - Generic action movie with a plot we have all seen many times before, and several scenes are pretty much taken from other movies.... However the secret sauce here in the execution. The director is a seasoned stunt performer and it shows.
There are a few interesting twists to make the story feel a little less recycled but unfortunately there's noting really innovative about the plot, it's all in the acting and action of which is both varied and impressive including an awesome 20 min oneshot. (although there will be hidden cuts in there).
TL;DR - Entertaining movie to sit down, turn your brain off and enjoy.… Expand
