I have been starting to feel like originality in film is hard to come by. Uhhh.... until this mind f*ck of a film comes out of nowhere and blows my mind. Even if its not your cup of tea you have to respect the sheer amount of creativity, originality, and the overall risk these filmmakers took. It's funny, weird, emotional, raunchy, sad all at once. IT IS EVERYTHING ALL AT ONCE.
Obviously we haven't seen multiverse of madness yet but did a movie with 95 percent less of its budget and zero previous hype just show marvel how to do multiverse correctly? This movie is a benchmark for originality. Can't recommend it enough! Tell your friends, family, ex girlfriend and everyone you know and lets get some butts in seats and make this movie a hit!

It is at the same time a very old fashioned Oscar bait full of tears of sadness and tears of joy, dialogues where people hammer each other with their grievances and emotions, and a mandatory salute to many previous movies and the joy of cinema (in this case mostly kung fu cinema). As a comedy it fails, its humor is very childish and ridiculous, there are comedy movies from the time of our grandparents whose humor still seems funny to us today, the humor of this movie is almost purely visual by showing ridiculous fights or characters dressed in ridiculous to say an example. As a science fiction genre, it also fails, despite the fact that the genre is fantasy, in general, the universe that we are presented with has consistency, it is credible, it has logic and if there are elements that are not very credible, they end up being few or scarce. The science fiction of this movie is so silly, so unbelievable that I can't really immerse myself in it. The story and relationship between the mother and her daughter, and how it develops, doesn't seem bad to me, but the other elements that I mentioned before are like ruining the experience of the movie itself. The film is new, I don't know if you could even talk about a new genre because of how incredibly chaotic it is, but even so, the stupidity of the plot, the stupidity of its universe, the bad humor, the nonsense of how several of the events take place that make me unable to recommend it and rate it negatively. Not really surprisingly, and it's too long, ok performances by all the cast and with all the flaws and it did might sound harsh but it wasn't truly a bad movie overall but it just not the one that at very least ok too for me so i was still pretty much disappointed, despite the cool special effects and the Multiverse thing, the real story of the film was really my major problem because it didn't fit with the other side of the story, and if you erase all the Multiverse stuff, it might be even work more, it just doesn't connect, it's a mixed bag of a feeling, it felt very forced, again i like the super weird Multiverse thing that they did, the special effects, the style, the color, the lighting, the cinematography, the score, and performance was still ok, but as a whole combined with the real story, it didn't work for me, and it's surprisingly becoming my new unpopular opinion on possibly the most talked film of 2022 and the one that got a lot of praise, not for me. Some critics say the art of cinema is saturated with superheroes and stories that don't bring anything useful to the audience. That they don't challenge them, and they're not inventive enough. But when they break out of the mould, theySome critics say the art of cinema is saturated with superheroes and stories that don't bring anything useful to the audience. That they don't challenge them, and they're not inventive enough. But when they break out of the mould, they dismiss them as too ambitious and complicated for those same audiences.
So what the hell are we doing? Or are they telling the crowd they're too dumb?

And I comment on this because one of the many things I've heard about this film is that it would be too much for the average audience, but that's not the case at all.

Everything Everywhere All at Once is perhaps a film that pushes its concept a bit too far, but that doesn't make it any less appealing. Because as far as I could tell, once its plot explodes, the chaos of everything it presents is the cornerstone of the story, and therefore you must embrace that chaos.

The irony of it all is that in the end it's actually a pretty ordinary story.
Yes, of course, it is still an emotional, philosophical and profound journey through a complex narrative device such as the multiverse, but the underlying idea is still a story in which its protagonist must confront and question everything about her life. From her family to the decisions and failures that have brought her to the point where she finds herself when it all begins.

Perhaps the teaching addressed in its conclusion is nothing earth-shattering, but the journey to reach it was thoroughly entertaining, chaotic and exhilarating, and that was something really, really good.

And above all, what a great performance by Michelle Yeoh. She is the absolute captain of this film. Her co-stars do a great job too, but this is her show.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. An angry lesbian girl whose conflicted mother doesn't want to accept her girlfriend creates a bagel of despair that turns into a black hole, threatening to destroy countless parallel universes. I cannot understand how this was widely proclaimed one of the best movies of 2022. This movie is a pretentious mess that only professional movie critics would like. The editing can induce an epileptic fit, the story paper thin. The humor is crass and childish - there's a parallel universe where people have hot dogs for fingers. There's a scene where two men kung fu fight with butt plugs. Not hitting each other with butt plugs, no they fight with butt plugs inside them. In their butts. That is how you make the "movie of 2022", folks.

According to the Wikipedia synopsis this movies handles themes like existentialism, generational trauma, nihilism, absurdism, and Asian-American identity, and I say with great confidence that I didn't see anything of the sort. Sure, it pretends to, with pretentious hand waving and preachy yelling, but there is nothing you can take away and apply to your own life. What this movie does have though is a talking raccoon, under a chef's hat.

Immersive mania simulator.

I had to roll the windows all the way down on the drive home to feel the wind on my face in order to recover from the torture of this movie. I supported my strained forehead with my hand during most of the movie, and nearly walked out several times. I couldn't wait for it to end, and was disappointed at the fake ending.

Out of context (what context?) the majority of the movie looks and sounds very good, if not epic, but, taken together, it is incoherent and dangerous for human consumption. This is contemporary art house cinema, dissonant and chaotic. Acting, editing, audio mixing, and photography were all very good.

I laughed at exactly one scene, and in another scene, a line about what could have been in past lives brought me to tears. By the last quarter of the film, the language of the movie had been established, allowing for mild enjoyment and resolution to some degree, but nothing about how or why this movie was made redeems its terrible watchability.

É sobre valer a pena cada segundo, e "Everything Everywhere All at Once" valeu.

Marvel, se curve!

The acting and cinematography are top notch, the multiverse story is insanely innovative and wacky, and the writing is so perfectly done and impactful. Furthermore, while the comedy comes rapid-fire at points and lands almost every time, the film takes its time for slower, more introspective scenes that leave one wondering about how their multiversal selves are and how we can make the most of this life we have here, even if it may not be as impressive as we hoped. This is a must watch film, and, as of now, my favorite of 2022 without question. Expand

The film is chaotic, disorienting, innovative, thought-provoking, undisciplined and profoundly moving. It’s impossible to summarize briefly. But “Everything …” is also the best reason to venture out to a movie theater since the pandemic began over two years ago.

Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert – the Daniels - who co-wrote and co-directed this film, are veterans of several movie shorts and music videos. Their previous feature film, 2016’s “Swiss Army Man,” is summarized by IMDb as follows: “A hopeless man stranded on a desert island befriends a dead body, and together they go on a surreal journey to get home.” In “Everything …” they graduate from mundane topics like human mortality to tackle the multiverse.

The idea of the multiverse posits that there are an infinite number of universes – “alternate universes” or “parallel universes” – where the consequences of all the choices we make or don’t make are played out to their logical conclusions. It’s an idea that has been endorsed by Stephen Hawking and Neil deGrasse Tyson. But philosophically, it’s a pretty depressing brand of nihilism: how can life have meaning if none of our choices really matter?

The Daniels use the multiverse for two purposes. First, when characters jump from one alternate universe to another, the moviegoer can explore the alternate life stories of the primarily characters, particularly Evelyn (a spectacular Michelle Yeoh - 2000’s “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”) who is an unhappily married, dissatisfied co-owner of a laundromat whose main achievement has been disappointing her father. But in alternate universes where she has made different choices, Evelyn is, variously, a famous singer, a star of martial arts films, a sign-twirler on the street, a resident of a universe where everyone has hotdogs instead of fingers and, most poignantly, one of two sentient rocks on an uninhabitable planet (the most touching scenes in the film). Evelyn bounces from one universe to another to help her struggling daughter Joy (yes, I do see the irony) who, as many parents would predict, is both a confused young adult and also Jobu Tupaki, an arch-villain bent on destroying the multiverse. In one scene, Joy/Jobu confides that she has used her superpowers to place all the important things in the world in a bagel (you got it: an “everything bagel”).

The Daniels also use alternate universes to explore core concepts around family dynamics: the paralytic effect of parental disapproval; the notion that a family member’s quiet inaction sometimes represents kindness and strength, not passivity; and finally the strong suggestion that parental love is the most powerful force in the universe. At the end of the day, this weirdly wonderful film shares a powerful theme with the Bible, the Torah, the Koran and almost any good Kurt Vonnegut novel: in a confusing, scary, sometimes brutal universe, we’d all be better off if we all treated one another with a little more kindness.

Even if as producers, the Russo brothers continue their tireless work of cinematographic and scientific devastation. How many things do they mention? Michel Gondry, Jackie Chan and Hong Kong action movies, John Carpenter ["Big Trouble in Little China"] and the Wachowskis ["The Matrix"], the politically correct. And so far nothing serious. But then they come to "2001" and "Mr. Nobody" with its quantum man, and this gives the measure of how certain elevated themes are swept away by a demented approach, sometimes even scatological and with a philosophy that is a hymn to banality. Then: stop confusing multiverse, metaverse and pluriverse. They might turn to a fùcking scientific advisor. Or do they address to such an ignorant target audience because it's okay/better this way? "Cult movie of our time but, as often happens in films of this kind, the boundary between the hypertrophied and the exhausting can become very blurred" (Daria Pomponio).

I liked that its set in such a domestic, dare I say particularly boring setting as an IRS office. The visual effects are great - I liked the cartoon strip feel to some effects in particular (I won't elaborate so as not to provide potential spoilers). I found it difficult to follow all the plot details but I certainly wouldn't say that affected my enjoyment of the film overall. Watching the fast paced fight scenes reminded me a little of kung fu or samurai films of the 1970s. At times Chinese songs are played in the background and it was nice to see the various family members speaking in their (I assume) mother tongue. As over the top as it undoubtedly is for the most part, there is a point in which things slow down significantly - that is somewhat poignant. I should perhaps note that a fair amount of the dialogue is in either Mandarin or Cantonese, hence subtitles are often present, which may or may not put you off it. Its a very engrossing and yet also somewhat baffling film, with a quirky, arty feel to it to an extent but enough mainstream CGI to entertain the audience well, I reckon. It's definitely a film to re-watch, as I was left thinking 'what did I just see?' by the end.

Needless to say, I would definitely recommend this film, yes.

Oh man my first thoughts when the movie ended was holy **** I’m 99% sure I just witnessed a classic. The trailer for this movie does a great job of essentially telling you the bare minimum you need to know about the plot but the movie itself is something I can’t quite say I’ve ever seen before. The first thing that stuck out was how funny the movie was the jokes aren’t corny at all and don’t feel forced at all and genuinely funny knee slapping material. The action is standout as well as the movies not marketed to be an action thriller but the fighting in the movie just seems so realistic with the use of everyday things like a Fanny pack ( that whole fight sequence with the Fanny pack was **** phenomenal ) and just stuff on an office desk like an office award (you’ll understand this if you’ve seen the movie

This movie skillfully utilises symbolism and humour to address themes of nihilism, sacrifice, depression and intergenerational trauma. Uniquely, this film could also be titled Truly All Genres All At Once as it incorporates comedy, drama and action into its core identify as a sci-fi film. There is bound to be many laugh out loud moment as well as many moments of introspections which makes it a cognitive experience as well. Adding to a mind blowing plot, is the artful directing, sound score and costume design which adds vibrancy to the message being conveyed. This aspect of the film truly makes it a sensory experience. The action scenes are very beautiful and we feel all the love of the directors for the films of Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan. The editing is very fluid and pleasant. The film is well rhythmic, you never get bored. The writing is as touching as it is funny. This film is really impressive, it surprises us every second. You never really know what you’re watching, you alternate between sf and family drama. This film is really a new breath in the current film industry, an author’s blockbuster that never suffers from its low budget and that could become for the next generation of filmmakers a revolutionary film as was the first Matrix (whose film is inspired ) by its positivity, its universal message, and its cinematic qualities. Absolutely one of, if not my favorite movie of all time

It's near impossible to spoil this movie, even if i were to explain the plot in painstaking detail. It still won't diminish that cathartic feeling you're left with when the credits role around. This is to the films credit and it's rare to discover a film where the sum of all it's parts successfully elevate the whole so completely. This movie should have stumbled in it's near unmatched ambitiousness but instead, somehow, it incorporates slice of life, comedy, drama, sci-fi, martial arts, romance, coming of age and existential philosophy into an unforgettable package resulting in laughs, intrigue, adrenaline, and deep contemplation about the meaning of life itself. I laughed and cried along with the majority of the audience.

On a side note, don't believe the people saying this movie has forced diversity or has pandering elements. It doesn't, whatsoever. I think they conflate the diversity of the cast with pandering which is really terrible logic.

The acting was stellar, cinematography and editing on point and the storytelling didn't let up for one moment. A masterpiece deserving of your undivided attention. Go see it now!

Despite it's comedy accent the main value or truth shown in the film is a life recipe.
A very good one indeed:
- "kill people with kindness"
- "be proactive"
- "deal with things instead avoiding them"
- "make decisions and be proud of them"
The movie shows new concept of "matrix". It is no longer a virtual reality, but a multiverse driven by decisions. It reminds me of theory of everything combined with boltzmann brain concept.

Actors did a great job and stay true to their roles.
Not even for a second could I thought about them being unrealistic.

Things suddenly become extremely weird when she and her hubby (Kw Huy Quan in a charming turn) go to the IRS (featuring Jamie Lee Curtis as a frumpy auditor). She ends up as various incarnations of herself in multiverses fighting to save the universe from destruction. Even though this description sounds like it may be a Marvel-based superhero adventure, it's not. It's a zany trip thru several realities with confusing connections. These sci-fi sections are crazy fun and the frenzied martial arts moments propel the film. However, there's a lot of metaphysical mumbo jumbo that slows the momentum. There are also attempts at emotional family connections that don't resonate. This is the 2nd feature from Daniels, the directing duo whose 1st film was Swiss Army Man. An excerpt from that review applies to this film as well, "A highly-original and rollickingly-weird premise that gets bogged down with too much message." Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This was a fun film that keeps you very entertained through out. Michelle Yeoh does great at pretending like she doesn't know martial arts even though that's her extensive film history. And I like that this film isn't afraid to get weird. What did make me lose a bit of interest was the climax. It got too convoluted with all the time lines that the shots cutting to the universes back and forth was breaking up the pace just so it could force tying up each version of her with a happy ending. The balancing of tones, storylines, plants and payoffs — it's like watching a high-wire act involving the juggling of both chainsaws and puppies at the same time. Daniels, however, end up excelling in nearly every intangible facet. Notwithstanding a couple structural issues I had towards the end of the film, this is an emotionally satisfying, superbly realized adventure, with resonant thematics and gut-busting laughter. Hoping the duo at hand has many, many more projects like this in the works. Expand

It felt so, genuine. No spoilers, but there were a lot of really touching moments, and there was a part where I was, ok this feels really open, well it reminded me of what it used to feel like when I was in love and holding them in my arms.. Like extreme tunnel vision and warmth and happiness and nervousness and everything,, Haven’t felt that in years, and it was, good.. My parents found it all a bit too silly, but I think they did a wonderful job. Expand

From there, Evelyn explores and fights her way across multiple universes in search for answers and discovers the importance and value of her family along the way. First off, this film is absolutely bonkers! Nothing could have prepared me for just how wild and off-the-walls insane this one would be! It was almost kind of a sensory overload for me at times to be completely honest. However, that's not to say that I didn't enjoy myself immensely while watching this, because I absolutely did! There's a little bit of everything in this film to enjoy (hence its title perhaps). From subtle winks and nods to other films, to being an all-out Love letter to Kung Fu cinema, this one offers up so much without ever really slowing down much! The fight scenes are expertly choreographed and unbelievably impressive, and the multiverse story, though it's been explored quite a bit in recent films (*cough* *cough* 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' *cough*), this one still manages to feel fresh and unique enough and brings so much zany and innovative ideas to the table that most will be able to completely overlook this aspect like I did! As for the performances, Michelle Yeoh gets her much overdue starring Hollywood role with this film and shines brilliantly in every single way! She'll have you rooting and crying for her from start to finish! Ke Huy Quan (who's now all grown up from being a Goonie and aiding Dr. Jones as Shortround) Expand
