Encanto is an immaculately animated film with numerous intriguing dynamic characters. Each of the musical numbers is great and necessary in establishing these characters. Undoubtedly from the first minute you immerse yourself in the story, without mention the lovely animation showing us the continuous evolution of Walt Disney Animation Studios.

The most delightful of the film is there characters, probably they are the most original of the film too. Their gifts and insecurities are the most charming, giving us to understand that nobody is perfect.
It was going very well until the conflict arrives, is very intriguing and interesting, but it comes too late and the resolution has a lot of sense about "What keeps a home standing, is the union of the family" but it rush it a lot to end it and it makes loss all the impact.… Expand

This movie's beautiful visuals, animation and presentation fully deserves a 10 but if you factor in the story and pacing then it drops down to a 7. Encanto starts off well enough with brisk pacing and despite its large cast of characters,This movie's beautiful visuals, animation and presentation fully deserves a 10 but if you factor in the story and pacing then it drops down to a 7. Encanto starts off well enough with brisk pacing and despite its large cast of characters, Disney does a good job of introducing the likeable protagonist Mirabel and her family through songs and humor.

The movie can be boiled down to this — The children of a Colombian mother and all her blood descendants are given unique super powers by a magical candle but seemingly the protagonist was never given hers and she's sad about it. This little mystery as to why is a good hook to keep you watching to the end.

But not even half way in, issues in the movie's pacing begins when Mirabel goes looking for answers to a terrible vision she sees of the family house crumbling. At this point, the direction of the movie becomes disjointed and it lead to inconsistency in the pacing. It was like the writers came up with a beginning and an ending but didn't really know what to do with the middle. Also, the climax leading up to the resolution isn't very impactful since there is no real antagonist.

The ending was good. When you realize what Mirabel's true power is (as cliche it might be) you might find it was all worth watching and rate the movie higher than me. So there is a lot of good to say about the movie...it's beautiful to look at, it's filled with whimsical jokes, the animals are cute and it's filled with a good cast of characters. Would recommend to others. If I can give this movie a score with decimals it would be more like 7.9 but I can't round up and give it an 8. The movie has a weak middle and a weak climax, and together this makes up a big part of the movie.… Expand

Encanto has some of the most beautiful visuals I have seen o an animated movie, the screen is filled with life and color and its just a joyful thing to witness. Furthermore the songs are quite good, although not quite memorable dare I say,Encanto has some of the most beautiful visuals I have seen o an animated movie, the screen is filled with life and color and its just a joyful thing to witness. Furthermore the songs are quite good, although not quite memorable dare I say, and its premise at its core is interesting. Yet the movie still fails to captivate compeletely.

I wanted to love this movie, I am from Colombia and the idea of an original Disney movie inspired on my country is quite exhilarating, the moment I heard the theme of the movie from Carlos Vives filled me pride and happiness and seeing some of the references like the food they ate made me giggle. Furthermore the animals, the enviroment, the salsa-like music all sell the Colombian countryside quite well. In terms of represantion I couldn't be happier.

Still, quite unfortunately, the story doesnt quite flourish in the same way. While it has a great premise, I thought that the constant singing diminished the experience. Some of the more key moments, like finding out the emotional weight that a certain character feels in regards to her position in the family is told through singing and rampant visuals and most of the more sentimental parts are managed this way. In this regard I thought the movie never had a moment to truly breath and explore its characters.

Ultimately this led to a very unsatisfying conclusion where it seemed like the movie wanted you to be emotionally compromised, but the investment wasnt there. I honestly felt like the solution to everything came out of nowhere. A better balance between music and storytelling could have served this one way better.

Nontheless, the message to it all is still there, and its still a valid lesson for anyone to understand, specially the kids. Plus, the visuals, the music and some of its funnier moments still make for an entertaining watch.… Expand

The positives: The music and visuals are great, it's the best Disney has done in a while. It's a pretty short movie by today's standards, it flies by. The negatives: the movie has no plot, things just happen and the main character does nothing to affect the outcome. I liked the songs (although I had to play several of the songs with subtitles so I could understand the lyrics). However, overall, I cannot say I enjoyed Encanto. I did not like the Abuela character. She treats Mirabel like a second rate family member because Mirabel does not have a special gift. Mirabel is not featured in the family picture, and she is encouraged to stay out of the way of the preparations for the party. It's not as if anyone in the family "earned" their gifts. The gifts were just bestowed. Bruno is also ostracized because he saw a bad vision for the family. There are some other instances in which the characters with gifts hold themselves higher than the characters without. I know it's supposed to be a playful animated film, so it may not be appropriate to over-analyze it. However, I could not help my resentment of some of the characters, and that kept me from making an emotional connection to the film.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie, is decent at best and extremely generic and forgettable at worst. While Mirabel and the Grandma were well developed and the movie has some emotional moments and nice visuals, all of this doesnt compensate by the fact that the movie lore is not exploited at all, remaining very simplistic overall and with a few plot holes here and there, like, we dont know why Mirabel doesnt recieve its gift, and why the house start to break in half movie. The songs, while good by themselves, they dont combine at all with the tone of the movie and they are just too much, padding the movie. A movie with this simplistic plot it should take much less than 2 hours. For last, the ending is one of the most forced and cliche endings i ever seen in a animated movie in a long time. With the house already destroyed, and the magic being gone, all of the people cries a bit, and later they decide to repair the house, and later it recovers the magic!!! Woowwowow, and happy ending!!! Wowowowowow. It was very predictable overall to be honest, and is a shame, because this movie shows that it wanted to introduce more unique things to it, but it never wants to be more than: meh, just magic and power of family love.
It shares some flaws with other recent Disney movies as well, like Coco, but Coco has a much more exploited lore and is just more interesting to watch, as well as more emotional, while Encanto feels like a downgrade of other animated movies with the same concept.… Expand

I'd find most Disney Musicals annoying and childish, but this one is hinestly the first good Disneycal (completely made-up mix of Disney and Musical) I've seen in a long time. The overuse of "We Don't Talk About Bruno" and the fanbase overall are the only things bothering me here. I only found it decent. The story and Animation was solid. I'm a Lin-Manuel Miranda person, too. But it's forgettable. I predicted the ending a mile away, being Mirabel finding out the her gift was HERSELF.… Expand

I found very little in this movie; the characters felt flat and one-note, defined primarily by their 'special gifts', or whatever underdeveloped twist the plot demanded of them. The music rarely communicated any sort of emotional value, rather trying to emulate pop, making the soundtrack feel more like its meant to be played outside of the movie on something like Spotify or Apple Music.

Story-wise, it never feels like the movie is really building to much, characters kinda just putz around until stuff happens to them, they'll react, then continue onto the next thing. Very little feels properly developed.

The animation was mostly very communicative and appealing, though sometimes the over-the-top expressions of the protagonist came off as a little too quirky.… Expand

It's pretty and I wanted to like it, but as a Latin-American I think the movie was a bit of a foreign view of Colombian culture. I’m a big fan of Disney’s animated films and had high hopes for this but it fell extremely short. The animation and colors are wonderful but the story line is anticlimactic and somewhat nonsensical. The premise had a lot of potential thatI’m a big fan of Disney’s animated films and had high hopes for this but it fell extremely short. The animation and colors are wonderful but the story line is anticlimactic and somewhat nonsensical. The premise had a lot of potential that wasn’t lived up to. I usually cry my eyes out in Disney films (I’m looking at you Coco) but I didn’t even get teary-eyed in this one. It’s as if the writers wrote the first third of the story then randomly through the rest together. Many ends were left untied and very few of the characters where well developed. Additionally, this is probably my least favorite animated Disney film in terms of music. All the songs are just okay but nothing I need to listen to again or 100 times over (I’m looking at you Moana). The lead voice is also lacking (nasally, unfitting for the character animation). Overall it just lacked the master storytelling that Disney (and particularly Disney Pixar) is known to produce. Perfectly pleasant/mindless watching for young ones.… Expand

I hate to rate this average but it just wasn’t good. The songs were auto tuned cringe and the story didn’t make sense. I will say it’s placed in a very accepting community. A super haunted house being occupied by wizards?! Lol.

Honestly the songs weren't very good. They were all over the place. The story was pretty lame overall. I guess I'm just not the target audience but even 10 year old's deserve better movies.

It was ok, this is just my perspective, but there was just way to much singing. I look at coco, and there was singing there, but not to the point where it takes up a good chunk of the film, and that's the lore you get from these characters inIt was ok, this is just my perspective, but there was just way to much singing. I look at coco, and there was singing there, but not to the point where it takes up a good chunk of the film, and that's the lore you get from these characters in Encanto? With mostly singing? Like cmon we hardly got to know much about the buff girl, or anyone for that matter, other than mirabele . And then just horrible how everyone treated Bruno, just because he tells the truth. I'm actually more interested in the thousand day war that was taking place in Colombia during the grandmother's younger days. Anyways this just falls way behind compared to coco, but that's just my opinion.… Expand

Encanto sucks as*! It is so…shallow. Not to mention that half of it doesn’t make sense. Some of the characters have character flaws amped up to 11 so forgiving them is impossible. Some songs are great, but most are just catchy. I feel that you have to be a real music nerd to enjoy most of this movie. Which I am not. Much prefer Coco. But again, Disney went to new heights for the music. Some of which, like Surface Pressure, was a little too poppy for me. But either way, they went all in on the music and it payed off well. The music was what kept me watching the movie and is the only reason I didn’t give Encanto a 1. The animation and overall appearance of the movie was incredible. And the environments were so well crafted.… Expand

Disney in general seems to be trying to reinvent the wheel. They are pushing this culture thing where they try to find small pockets and then use it for inspiration. Setting is important but what’s more important for you to write a good story. Maybe it had a message or maybe it doesn’t but it should draw you in. Look at past success. Little mermaid. Every little girl wants to be a mermaid and then ultimately when they get older to find Prince Charming. It has elements of rebellion from your parents and going off on your own. It’s a tale of growth for a young girl. It’s a pretty fantasy. The first frozen. Super powers of ice. Also a princess to be a queen. Loss. family. Love of family is also powerful not just Prince Charming. I just didn’t feel as intrigued with this one. I loved coco but this one just didn’t pull me in the same way. Delving into other cultures in great but it should be second to your story telling. Just my two cents. Hopefully Disney comes out with something else soon and it’s better than the last couple.… Expand

The main appeal would've been the beautiful songs ... but even they aren't good, the only tolerable ones being "Waiting On a Miracle" and "What Else Can I Do?".… Expand

Equivalent to the direct home video releases of the past. Awful storytelling, awful music, visual are ok. Wouldn’t waste your time with this one.

Nobody ever sat down and wrote this story from inspiration or creativity. Some executive got a bunch of hacks together and dictated requisites. As a Colombian I feel disappointed, nice graphics a lot of random elements but the history is poor and had no connection is kind of a lazy dialog and only visual part is interesting.

Cinematography: My **** Gosh! If you have motion or light sensitivity issues do not I repeat DO NOT watch this. The leas it will do is make you puke. Music: Generic. It's obvious no effort was put into this aspect of the movie.

Special Effects/Environment: Amazing! They've put enormous effort into this too bad the camera is constantly shaking and moving which makes it impossible to appreciate the beauty.

Entertainment Value: Close to none.… Expand

Probably the worst animated film ever made and imo a strong contender for most overrated film of all time. Wow, this is **** boring. There is NOTHING of interest here, there's basically zero story or adventure. Dreadful.

It's a vapid movie despite all the bells and whistles used to provoke a dopamine hit: simple like that. Replace the characters with a bunch of Jolly Chimps and the course of the story would have been exactly the same.
