This one was just so... meh. the overall theme of this is Doctor Strange in every other multiverse is a horrible person. So just about every one from different universes is trying to kill or stop Doctor Strange. The movie opens up interesting with Shuma Gorath showing up unfortunately hes completely wasted and is killed so there goes a waste of a good villain right at the start. way to screw that up Disney. Than we have American Chaves the crappy hero no one likes and her comic sucks so bad no one buys it. I'll give the actress credit here she wasnt bad at least and they didn't make her a unsufferable douche like she is in her comics. Overall plot is trying to stop Wanda from getting Chaves because her power makes it so you can jump across multiverses... oh yeah and Wanda is now evil for some reason. Why you ask? hell if i know. apparently Disney in all of its stupidity made it so if you didnt watch the TV show (which i didnt) you will have no clue WTF is going on here. So if you didn't watch the Wanda show you are going to be as confuses as hell on why Wanda is now evil. Pretty much ruined the movie for me since im just scratching my head to why Wanda is all evil now and insanely over powered. This has to be the dumbest idea ever for a lead into a movie
I'm also scratching my head as to how i made it to the end of this turd.
MCU has taken a massive nose dive into the ground not to mention how many of these movies have we had already? 20?25?30?
im rapidly losing interest in this franchise like a lot of people are looking at how badly these movies are doing.
Pretty much right after end game they have completely screwed everything up.
Ire Disney will just run this into the ground and ruin it like they do everything else these days.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Here's how absurd the plot of this movie is. Wanda is so desperate to find her kids that she knows she never had to begin with, that she's willing to kill and steal the powers of a teenager that can punch star-shaped holes in the fabric of reality, so she can find her kids and take her alternate reality version's place as their mother.

So, why not work with America to help her control her powers first and then find a reality where Wanda had died and the boys were orphans and then offer to either take over as their mother there or bring them to our universe and take care of them here?

"Oh, but she's distraught and using an evil book!" She was in control of herself for some time before the movie started, but now the movie started, so hur-dur, let's make her the villain. Also, dear lord, they turned Wanda into an unstoppable killing machine beyond anything and everything that has come before. Nothing could stop her, and this movie goes beyond to hammer home how powerful she was. The entirety of Kamar-Taj: Dead
Wong Sorcerer Supreme: Beaten like it was nothing
Captain Marvel: Dead
Captain Cartner: Dead
Black Bolt: Dead (by killing himself, lol)
Jim from the Office cosplaying as Mister Fantastic: Dead
Professor X from the 90's cartoon: Dead and went out like a ****

And then there's Doctor Strange, whose power is either very strong or completely worthless and Marvel is banking on the viewer just turning off your brain the right amount to ignore these easily noticed things.

This movie should have been named "Doctor Strange and The Jumping of the Shark" because it was. Whatever you loved about the MCU is gone now. All the worldwide risk and danger we lived through in the last decade or so--Pointless. The scale they just brought the threats to have made everything that came before trivial. Even Moon Knight with literal gods fighting each other is pointless. This was the movie that broke on the MCU. I am done with them. The direction they are taking is just not my thing, and I'm not sticking around for it.

P.S: Hey, so now that Wanda yeeted herself at the end, what happens with Vision, hmm? Did y'all forget there's a version of him that survived at the end of Wandavsion? Any reason for that to move on with?

Michael Bay like endless action and explosion with terribly written and executed Raimi evil dead humor injected. If anyone thought the b movie schlock constituted horror elements they must be incredibly delicate. I actually think Bay would have made this better because the dumb bits would just be more mind numbing explosions, that would be less offensive. The character's never stay in one place long enough to tell a story, they just spout nonsense and the next action scene happens. We sit for 2hours and don't even get a satisfying ending, just another wet fart in a movie full of them.

I don't think I'll be seeing another Dr. Strange or Raimi directed MCU movie after this.

It felt like a campy horror movie, i.e. evil dead. The multiverse in the end detracts with confusing messy story elements more than it adds.

God, rarely have I found myself so bored at the theater.

For a film franchise that has sometimes been criticized for feeling more like television, never has a Marvel film felt it to this degree before. The whole thing feels like a middling episode of a Sci-Fi Channel Original Series with just exposition piled upon exposition piled on exposition. There is little here resembling any kind of emotional storytelling or humanity, just borderline incomprehensible plot threads to set up other Marvel movies. If you like soy banter instead of anything resembling character development then this is the movie for you.

If you were hoping that Sam Raimi, arguably the best filmmaker to ever work in this franchise, could bring his identity to the Marvel machine, I regret to inform you that the scoreboard reads “Disney 1, Raimi 0”. Sure, there’s some of Raimi’s dutch angles and signature dolly zooms here to remind you he’s still involved but that’s about where it ends. (Ok, actually there is one very funny Bruce Campbell cameo, the only genuine laugh in the film)

Even the much teased Marvel cameos, that now seem like the new direction for this franchise, completely fall flat as it serves little purpose beyond waving a bright shiny new toy in front of your face.

Somehow even worse than I thought it’d be, terrible start to summer movie season

It only avoids ZERO because of the special effects and nostalgia. This movie is plain and simple political propaganda, in a Cold War that resembles the 80’s, thus the nostalgia. Avoid it at all costs.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've not been more disappointed in a Marvel movie as with Dr. Strange part 2. This film is going to be proof in film schools for the next decade that you can take a great group of actors, (Minus one major character) and a good director, just to waste all of their time with poor quality writing. As for the character of America Chavez, I'm not sure if it was the writing, directing, or acting but the character was horrendous. The idea was so poorly carried out that she dragged down every scene that she was in. It wasn't that the concept was the problem, but how it was portrayed at every step was laughably insulting. This film couldn't even remain consistent with the last major Marvel movie, let alone provide any sort of logical consistence. Wanda is not a sympathetic villain, she is psychotic and the writers have a strange infatuation with her that continues since Wandavision. Dr. Strange was written to be extremely intelligent and analytical in his prior film, where his arrogance was off putting but something that the character could get away with. Now he just comes off as simply foolish. They make Wong look incompetent and little more than a joke. The cameos were all rubbish and did little more than to make establish characters look stupid. They were trying to make Wanda look like a huge threat, but to me it came off as these supposedly great heroes were all jack asses. This could have been a great movie. They had very talented actors and a great idea, along with a director that could have pulled it off. However the writing was so piss poor that it was bungled at the corporate level. The director had touches that showed through and created some fantastic visuals. It's the reason that this film made it a 3 on my scale. But he was so held back by Disney that it was a waste of his talent. I wonder if there is a Sam Raimi cut?

This movie could have been great. The cast was almost perfect, and with a different actor for America C. and writers that had the skill and freedom to create a compelling script it could have been a home run. Instead we get a lack luster film with actors that do their best to shovel garbage while a kid without enthusiasm or an idea of how to help just gets in their way. This is directed by a guy that has his hands tied behind his back by corporate with one eye blindfolded. All of whom are shackled to a script from a writers room staffed with people lacking the interest to remember major plot details from the last film in the franchise, and missing the life experience and skill to make a compelling narrative outside of an instruction manual for a toaster. And a host of details from major plot points down to the catering from lunch are likely being dictated by Disney board rooms. The Marvel franchise has a huge problem, no matter how much money is thrown at something you cannot make it good. You NEED writers that care enough about it that they remember the major plot points from the prior movies! They need to remain internally consistent during the current iteration of your 'multiverse' narrative. If they cannot do that then they lack the drive to create compelling stories filled with interesting characters. This isn't just from a single problem. Are there signs of to much corporate control over the creators? Yes there is. Are there signs that the writers lack the life experience to incorporate plot points in complex and subtle ways? Definitely! This movie threw a lot at you and then used the tired old 'subvert expectations' excuse when the story lines just didn't stick.

The characters' actions range from inconsistent from what was established in prior films to outright illogical or flat-out inane (the Gigantos sequence was dense with stupid). It's been said numerous times - MCU productions have fallen flat since Endgame, and this entry is no exception. While I can't speak for the casual moviegoer / "normie" audience member, I can speak for film lovers when I say to Disney and every other movie studio out there, What we (the audience) want is very simple: 1) Focus on writing a quality story, 2) Adapt said story into an engaging cinematic experience. That's it. That's all we want. As a bonus, you can add 3) Respect the source material / characters, but ultimately, if you focus on writing a brilliant script then adapting that to a solid cinematic work, your film will be successful. You Hollywood folks seem to love to check boxes. Maybe return to checking the above boxes as your priority and reduce any agenda or lecturing to the subtext, or better yet, leave it out completely. Returning to form by going back to embracing this approach is guaranteed to fill seats. Just look at Top Gun: Maverick, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Everything Everywhere All At Once, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, and others that have put story and cinematography first. Take notes and straighten your priorities, guys. Or die a slow death as you slip into obscurity with your remaining tiny audience of ~1,500 Twitter extremist idealogues that you seem intent on catering to at any cost. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is, out of all things, one especially: too much of everything. The first Strange was just the right amount of well executed visual effects, this one is just brain-melting. It's overflowing with it, and while it's good-looking quality wise - it adds nothing. The story is, just like the latest Spider-Man, very, very bare-bones and could've easily been condensed in half of this movie's length if you really wanted to make it "just story".
I understand the appeal of putting characters like Captain Carter, Professor Xavier or, even, John Krasinski as Mr. Fantastic in the movie - but please let them do something that adds to the story at the very least.

It's so, so disappointing that the talent of Elisabeth Olsen, Benedict Cumberbatch and Xochitl Gomez was wasted in this dragging VFX-fest of a movie.

In this case this character is America Chavez. A Mexican American girl ( who speaks a horrible spanish, I'm mexican and I could barely understand her jokes in spanish ) And they've mixed Mexico and America in one Character called America Chavez, if it wasnt enough she has a star like captain America in her very MURICAN Jacket, and she literally opens interdimensional portals but she is not in control. Let me see where I've seen this before, OH right With Ciri in the witcher Series. The effects are also very similar to Ciri's powers in the Witcher 3 game. And America Chavez is also being hunted for the same Reason as ciri in the witcher series. They are both hunted by a villain to use her teleportation abilities. America is tramuatized by her two (supposedly mexican mothers) who speak again a very broken cringy spanish. She is just shown in a plant world with no civilization in another universe. but somehow a bee happens to land on her hand and she gets scared and teleports her 2 mothers into some other universe. Literally anywhere in the universe. Of course if you choose a randome point you would probably end up in the middle of empty space and die instantly. She had also been living with her mothers for at least 15-18 years. You would think that she would have gotten scared of something else in her life and opened a portal before or something, but no, bee, portal, parents gone. Thats your background for one of the central characters. moving on. They go to a very utopic universe New York where the most that they could come up with was a Normal New York with contemporary looking buildings with some roof gardens and a waterfall from the empire state, imagine the amount of water pumps and the energy required to run that. (there is actually a building in china with a waterfall that rarely gets used because of how much power it requires) And the only other difference is that streetlights are switched so you go on red. The scarlett witch goes crazy and wants to find the girl no matter what and persues the main characters to the avengers that are actually the illuminati ( wow how imaginative ) and is conformed by several old known characters and some very stereotypical new ones. which are practically the same as the original ones but opposite. So Instead of Captain America, its Captain Great Britain and she is a woman! oh wow. Then Captain Marvel stays female but is now black! wow how do they come up with these things, and finally the only original character who is mute because if he talks he destroys everything. So I suppose they wanted to include there people who speak sign language which is okeish. Scarlett Witch arrives and kills them all in a very very similar scene as the first episode of the "Invincible" Cartoon series. Later Strange fights his evil twin from another universe using only magical notes for some reason, The Sound editing and music recording at that scene is kind of interesting, but really they fight using musical notes only, and throw them at each other.

In summary it is a horrendous movie, it falls into every single kind of clichés possible. Nothing makes sense there seems to be no linearity with the rest of marvel, and at this point its just printing money for disney with more bland content. I recommend not going to any marvel movies until they actually start putting some effort into them.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It isn’t good. The writing and CGI are atrocious. The CGI looks like it was ripped straight from a video game. The characters are all morons without a shred of personality + life to them. The story is hard to follow as well. The film doesn’t utilize the multiverse to its fullest potential, which is unfortunate. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Invincible, and Everything Everywhere All At Once are the movies and comics that all use the multiverse closer to its fullest potential. Doctor Strange 2 sips from the fountain of the multiverse while the others gulp a big glass of it. I don’t recommend Doctor Strange 2. Extra: Black Bolt was too eager to speak (he hates doing so) and his design did not translate well to live action. I didn’t like Captain Marvel speaking for him, either. Medusa, his queen, is the one who does that. Expand

All of the individual concepts (except the magic music note battle) could have technically worked without breaking immersion if handled by a better director, but all it did was consistently destroy any semblance of sense or continuity - and not in a fun multiverse way. It wasn't even so bad it was funny like Drag Me To Hell, it was just genuinely painful to watch. Better make sure we kill off all the cameos so we're not tied down to fulfilling the promise we've made over and over to fans. Tonally inconsistent, unsatisfying and hugely disappointing. I genuinely would rather see the entire MCU end today than have another film like this destroy what could have been some compelling storytelling. Expand

The movie had okay CGI and humour, but the negatives outweigh the positives. Sloppy VFX, cheesy horror, and horrible character progression. Avoid this one and save your time & money for Thor.

All of it went against my appreciation of what makes a movie good. It was by far the worst of the MCU projects. Worse than even Thor 2, my previous standard for the worse mcu movie. I don’t want to say it was a waste of 2 hours, but let’s just say I had more 2 hour sessions staring at a blank wall that were more interesting and productive. I would highly recommend people at least wait for streaming and not reward marvel for this crap fest. I swear to god, they phoned this in because people will be excited by the marketing and are still high off Spider-Man and will pay for whatever. And I hate that. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Sam Raimi's style can be seen at every beat of this movie, which can bring some excitement for long time fans. However, the entire motivation of the villain is in contradiction with the actions she took in past feature MCU movies (excluding Wanda Vision) which is annoying. Two movies prior she was fighting to save the universe, now she's trying to destroy it because she lost someone close. In term of needs and morality, this acts as a weak plot driver and is uninspiring, contradictory, gratuitous- just to "villainize" and create fake tension. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This was the biggest disappointment in the MCU yet. The nonsensical story was a huge disservice to the already established and loved characters - especially Wanda. The whole idea of the movie was to use the villainous backstory of Scarlet Witch from some of the comics, but what they absolutely ignored was the backstory of the MCU Wanda. Her whole character ark seemed to lead to a motivational story for people who lost loved ones that "you can get over this" - but this one movie destroyed any chance of that happening. The moral now is "you can't get passed this. Just go crazy - maybe kill a couple of people while you're at it". Marvel movies are not psychological dramas - I get that. But these movies are watched my millions of people and such an abhorrent conclusion to Wanda's psychological problems is simply irresponsible and dumb.

Then the whole Illuminati plot was just painfully expositional - there was no point to it at all - just to show Fantastic 4 Krasinski and Xavier and then kill them immediately for the shock factor of it.

Even the CGI at times was cringy (that very fake third eye for example).

All in all a really crappy movie - one of the MCUs worst (not THE worst movie, but if assessing ONLY the story - then it's the worst story in MCU).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Some fun ideas do not make up for the poor writing (90s level cheese), poor directing (no one is acting nearly as urgent or concerned as they should be), inconsistent power scaling, extremely dated jokes and predictability of it all. I am sure it is tough making a movie that both 10 yer olds and adults watch, but this was unreasonably dumbed down...even for the kids.

Than there is the poor CGI.... green screen lines and shadows everywhere. You would expect better from this level of studio.

limping, no magic wanda running as fast as three adults in full sprint for their lives hahahahaha

Dr Strange is my fave MCU character and this film was so disappointing. I feel like Raimi must have made a better, more horror leaning film, and the studio left most of it on the cutting room floor.

Pacing is extremely off though most of the film.
There is no ratcheting tension, nearly no tension at all.
It is a straight shot with no twists or turns.
The "Multiverse" was just a few very flashy quick scenes; realistically the film is just set in Universe A and Universe B.
The subversion of the trailers was probably the best part of the film.

The film is very pretty and it has some great alternate character camoes, but ultimately it will leave you feeling hollow and wondering where your time went.

It has a lot of action and good visuals omitting a few instances of cgi that pulled me out of the movie because it looked off (think of that infamous Black Widow scene).
The plot on the other hand had a lot going on. Cameos were cool and teased heavily but suffered from a lack of pay off. So many things that were in the trailer made it seem like we were getting a different movie. Major characters that we thought would play a part wrapped up in a couple of minutes. The ending was super anticlimactic, I had such high hopes for this movie and they may have been what did it in for me. Anyone expecting a huge MCU changing movie will be left a little disappointed.

Overall, it's a mess with very little redeeming characteristics

It's theme and style is disjoined as it's still a marvel movie but there are horror-movie scenes. But it jumps between those styles. At one point, a zombie winks, at another point there is a jump scare and a character surprises behind another one and snaps the other character's neck. So it doesn't feel like a fun marvelovie because there are scary scenes and gore, but it's not a complete horror movie as it still trust to feel fun.

The fighting is mostly magical based so it doesn't carry as much weight. Just a lot of special effects but you don't feel the tension in their moves or actions.

The plot has some of those "wait... Why didn't you just do this or that" or "wait... You could have done that earlier and avoided all of this"

It leans heavier in the spells and magic and stuff than in previous iterations. I let it slide in the past because they're superhero movies and shows anyway. But in this one, there's more talk of demons, spells, spirits.

It's more heavy handed on the wokeness than I would prefer The only redeeming part of the movie was that the special effects were well done, and the few scenes with some characters from other marvel comics that we have not seen before for alterations of them because multiverse. That part was cool. Thankfully, I think this movie does not drive the overall MCU story so it should be skipable.

This isFirst off, this movie should have been rated R. It contains extremely gory elements/brutal murder, is full of jump scares, and has other graphic imagery that is just not suitable for a younger audience. It is a bonified horror film. This is far darker than other Marvel movies! Secondly, it is full of satanic themes (the Illuminati, witchcraft, demons/demon summoning, possession, occult rituals, and necromancy). If this clashes with your morals/religious views, I strongly suggest bypassing this movie because of how heavily it pushes this kind of agenda. To be honest, I walked out because it was so disturbing. After doing some research on the end credit scene, I see that Dr. Strange movies will continue to go further down the demonic route. I will not be supporting Marvel anymore. This is not the Marvel we all remember from Phases 1-3. What on earth were they thinking? Last, the plot itself was rather flat compared to other Marvel movies, and while we got a bunch of nice cameos, they were under-utilized in my opinion. The only thing going for this movie was the special effects and fan service. Everything else missed the mark. Expand

Pretty sure there's a multiverse out there, where this movie is considered "good", too bad where not in that multiverse right now.

Also: It's become an unhealthy habit, that Marvel Movies now require you to watch a whole show in advance so you as the viewer can even understand what's actually happening on the screen...

I'm usually an MCU fanboy but this movie sucks hard. Horrible writing, (they re-wrote it when Raimi came on apparently,) lame humour and brimming with predictable tropes. Should have been a fun view into the multiverse, but felt like watching an hour of the constant blundering in a bad horror movie. Instead of Doctor Strange doing clever things we get tediously predictable CGI fireball battles and boring dialogue. Really can't stress enough how bad the dialogue is, there's a lot of decision making that's just straight up brain-dead and then minutes of pointless squabbling that follows.

Also who made the decision to bring in America Chavez AKA the Marvel Universe's least liked character, (maybe Sam Raimi?) And the actor they used for her was pretty bad- there's a certain fainting scene that was highschool play caliber. It's one of the least forgettable scenes in the movie because it actually made me groan, where the rest of it failed to elicit a reaction.

Compared to "Spiderman: No Way Home" this movie is a joke.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This long, boring movie has lots of special effects but nothing happens of interest. It's a lot to sit through just to find out Wanda is no longer an MCU character. The multiverse is just an excuse to do ridiculous and often unexplainable nonsense. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Considering the source, Disney, this movie was nauseatingly predictable. You just have to remember that the fanatical feminists at Disney ALWAYS feature females that beat males. I predicted the Scarlet Witch would defeat Dr. Strange, and she did beat Strange and ALL of his minions. I also predicted that Doctor Strange would obtain the book of Vishanti, but that would still be insufficient to defeat the female Scarlett Witch, and that the female America would eventually defeat the witch. The entire premise of the Scarlett Witch wanting to be the mother of those two boys was ridiculous. The special effects where what I would describe as bizarre, with star shaped portals to other universes. And the dead Dr. Strange was a macabre touch. Of course, a multiverse allows Hollywood to go berserk with moral relativism. Like every other MCU movie since Disney's takeover, it features dominant females and emasculated males (Look at what happened to Thor). Disney has ruined the MCU! Expand
