Keep on ignoring the documented fact that what the democrats of 1860 stood for is the exact polar opposite of what the democrats of any time after 1960 stand for, but is exactly what the Republicans of today stand for. D'Souza is catering to the ignorant Trump voters, who have "done the research" and "know the facts," well at least as well a Fox told them anyway, but don't worry they can wipe their minds an refill it with whatever oddity Trump INC comes up with tomorrow. If you want actual history find a real history text, if you want made up crap then I guess this movie is for you and, as Bill Engvall nicely puts it: here's your sign. Expand

Just the synopsis alone wreaks of stupidity. Lincoln helped free the slaves, while the modern conservative machine is trying to turn them back into slaves, while showing insane bigotry to neighbours down south and mexicans.

Besides, the Democrats and Republicans have pretty much traded positions since Lincolns time, so in modern day he'd likely be a Democrat.

It's an insult to anyone who graduated from 6th grade with a "C" or higher in history. I will make a bet that at least half of those who posted positive are white supremacists, without a college degree, unemployed, or brain damaged from the fumes of the house paint they use everyday. Statistics alone point to them being under the influence of something, and obese. No wonder the world laughs at Trump and the US -"movies" like this and the people who like them are nothing but jokes. Expand

There are people that hate The Godfather and love Batman and Robin. We can’t determine what people like, but this movie is objectively garbage. Not only is it garbage, but it’s insulting garbage. This movie is just shameful propaganda filled with fabrications and lies from the hack of a director Dinesh D’Souza. This goes to show how dumb conservatives can really be. Not only is this the worst documentary I have ever watched, it is the worst movie I have ever seen and should go down in history as one of the the worst. Expand

Fraudulent propaganda. Trump > Lincoln, Dems are racists responsible for genocide. Absolute garbage riddled with false statements and claims and really should not even be classified as a documentary.

You know that a documentary is doing something wrong when the infamous far right Richard Spencer is the most relatable character in your film. Until today, I have never watched a documentary by Dinesh D'Souza, and I wish that I could remove the 'Until today' from my current sentence, but unfortunately I cannot.

This film is supremely flawed. Some people compare D'Souza to Michael Moore, however whilst Moore's factual evidence goes as far as being skewed (wrong dates, incorrect chronological order), Dinesh feeds the viewers of this film lies. It is actually pretty amusing to try and watch this film sober, the interview with the above mentioned Spencer for example being a particular comic highlight as well as the 'one drop rule ' being too much for the Nazis, but the one scene that had me howling with laughter is the one that suggested that Adolf Hitler was LGBTQ+ friendly, and that seems to be the reason that he was evil?

But most scenes are just plain awkward. There is a enactment of the final days of Sophie Scholl and I feel sorry for her name being in this film, in fact, I feel sorry for Donald Trump having his name in this documentary, in fact, I feel sorry for everybody that has their name in this thing, including some people who I find downright reprehensible. This really pushes the boundaries of what can be taken seriously in film.

Also, D'Souza seems to show a lack of empathy for his characters. He quite frequently insults people for the actions of their fathers. He abuses Hilary Clinton for being taught by a former member of the KKK however he shrugs of Donald Trump's sexual abuse allegations by stating 'We knew that we weren't electing a choir boy. He also blames a victim of the holocaust of being a fascist because he helped empty the properties of certain Jewish people, in fact, the entire Nazi segment comes across as misjudged with D'Souza comparing some of the most vile scientific experiments caused by man with abortion. This is immature.

But ignoring the factual inaccuracy (an understatement) and forgetting the insensitivity towards other human beings, this is a badly made documentary. There are far too many re-enacted scenes, a personal pet peeve that only works in 'Close-Up.' There are too many interviews to maintain interest, D'Souza is not engaging and it is overly preachy. It spends all its time looking into faults with the Democratic party that it doesn't even bother look at the positives of the Republican party.

This is an unnuanced hodge podge of untrue facts, lack of empathy or human emotion and bad filmmaking. I recommend you avoid this flaming turkey of a film that is somehow worse than its ridiculous poster and watch something of interest.
