An incredibly emotional, important, and powerful movie musical. The songs are some of the best ever written, and Ben Platt's performance is breathtaking. Personally, I really enjoyed the movie because the whole point is watching Evan overcome his struggles while also growing through something horrible he did. The hardest part for me to get past was Ben Platt's age gap. This movie is very good and captures kinda just depression & loss very well with a comedy aspect! However, It feels like the story has too many climaxes that drag the story out for too long.

The cast knocks this one out of the park once again! Ben was spectacular as Evan. You definitely need to see this and for your own opinions.

This movie is NOT as bad as the “critics” are sawing and it’s mostly aimed at the fact they think Ben is too old for the role. I didn’t get ANY of the subtle notes that the critics felt his acting gave a maliciousness to his character. I think it’s more or less a plot subject that makes people uncomfortable. Suicide, depression, and mental illness is no joking matter and this movie does a well job of bringing it to light. This movie is incredibly precious, I seriously don't understand the negativity around it, I feel that all the criticism come from the same lack of empathy that this movie asks to find again.

This is a film that hits close to home for me - a film about a shy and socially anxious teenager trying to get through his high school years (that was me), who finds his actions being accidentally misinterpreted, that may be the best way toThis is a film that hits close to home for me - a film about a shy and socially anxious teenager trying to get through his high school years (that was me), who finds his actions being accidentally misinterpreted, that may be the best way to put it. Its a quite poignant film, although its also fairly cheesy or corny as its a musical but I felt it handled the themes relatively well overall. Many people criticise the main performance as the actor (Ben Platt) is clearly much older than the character is meant to be - I agree, that is clearly the case and it is a bit distracting but it didn't entirely spoil the film for me because I could overlook it and concentrate on the plot at hand (ignoring the age issue). Yes, I'd recommend this film, if the issue with Ben Platt doesn't put you off too much. I thought it's got a good mix of singing based scenes and 'regular' dialogue based scenes and its somewhat thought provoking, although I imagine people with no experience of social anxiety may feel its a little long winded and perhaps a bit self indulgent.… Expand

Beware of critics who appear unfamiliar with the ability of passive teens to be drawn into doing things they would never set out to do, a teen’s ability act in the moment oblivious of what will happen next, and the comfort level among many to discuss treatment with peers. Folks who don’t like the film also appear to have missed many of the details: they criticize the fact that Jared is mean to Evan when he is supposed to be his friend— seemingly clueless that he most definitely is not a friend, as Jared makes clear. Ben Platt is 27. Perhaps I am too old to care because I don’t. He good in the role.… Expand

I'm sorry but the negative reviews are ridiculous. This film is a beautiful story. its literally the point of the musical / the film. Obviously people are too nit-picky these days.

Although Dear Evan Hansen's performances and music are charming, it doesn't entirely save the movie from being a bit disappointing But for me, it does what it takes to be satisfying.

I really enjoyed the film and the new songs, it was great to see the musical come to life on the big screen and Ben and the rest of the cast were magnificent.

As for the criticism around Ben's age, he is only 28 for goodness sake (and II really enjoyed the film and the new songs, it was great to see the musical come to life on the big screen and Ben and the rest of the cast were magnificent.

As for the criticism around Ben's age, he is only 28 for goodness sake (and I assume 27 when this was filmed), in the 80s this age group always played teenagers in film and TV, anyone talking rubbish about this is just doing it for dramatic reasons, he was still convincing as Evan and nothing felt wrong or out of place to me, plus Ben did it for the fans because most people see Ben as Evan and for that I thank him :)… Expand

This movie was amazing in my opinion. Yes, there are some songs they could've kept. Such as Anybody Have A Map? It could've given us more information about Connor and how life was really like for him. But, I loved the movie so much. Not asThis movie was amazing in my opinion. Around 5 minutes in during a music school scene it randomly cuts from one view to a different angle of the scene. The music isn’t that bad either. Honestly I have no clue why people hate this movie; it really went above and beyond my expectations. A lot of users are saying that they dislike the main character, but throughout the film we see how he is pushed into his lies by his ownHonestly I have no clue why people hate this movie; it really went above and beyond my expectations. A lot of users are saying that they dislike the main character, but throughout the film we see how he is pushed into his lies by his own insecurities and by trying to comfort the Connor’s family. Watch the movie and you’ll instantly understand why telling the truth wasn’t really an option for him in the beginning, taking in his personality and life. Also, personally, I think that Ben Platt really looks like a high schooler for most of the scenes (there are one or two where the illusion slips), and his and the rest of the cast’s performances are absolutely stellar. The music is done really well and I loved every second of it. I cried a little during an especially touching scene with Connor’s dad. Please dont listen to the haters and just watch it. It’s really good!… Expand

The songs are fantastic and the music numbers are well-directed. I did think it was a bit too long -- some of the songs seem like asides that didn't add up to anything for me. Overall, if you like movie musicals, this is a good one.… Expand

As someone who is a massive fan of the musical prior to it being a film, I was going into this film worried I was going to be disappointed from a lot of the critic reviews. Well, I don’t know what everyone was smoking cause I think the filmAs someone who is a massive fan of the musical prior to it being a film, I was going into this film worried I was going to be disappointed from a lot of the critic reviews. Well, I don’t know what everyone was smoking cause I think the film is a near perfect film adaptation of the play

It’s not perfect. Otherwise I’d be giving it 5 stars, 4 songs were removed and replaced by a new song and a reprise for it. Initially, it hit me a bit wrong but I actually really liked the song. However, the reprise didn’t need to be there.

The biggest mistake the film makes is removing the song “Anybody Got a Map?” Because it perfectly sets up the stage for both families. But, the film is far from a disaster. Ben Platt gives a stellar, heart breaking performance and everyone else does a fantastic job in their respective roles as well. For me, it’s a win. I would love to see it again in the theater and I’ll definitely be buying the Blu-ray. For any purists out there, you’ve been warned - there are changes. But I think they mostly work. Mostly…… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Honestly, the movie is bad. The adaption of this amazing Broadway musical is just really, really pedestrian. The songs and performances continue to be great though. But the movie itself is as bad as The Greatest Showman, which is not surprising. Having said that, many reviews in here take the hate they have towards Evan and apply that to everything else. You can and should be able to see the qualities of any movies despite how horrible some characters are. Evan isn't a poorly developed character; he is simply a bad person that happens to suffer from anxiety. This is a movie about a bad person. It just also happens to be a bad movie.… Expand
