Easily my newCaptain America the winter soldier is a great milestone for marvel that really adds to an already expanding universe full of interesting, unique, characters that is changing the way we see comic book films today in our society. Easily my new favorite Disney Marvel film due to the fact that the films plot is just so beautifully presented and how everything flows so smoothly and gracefully through all the gritty dark themes that are starting to became a lot more present in the Disney Marvel universe and the fact that the Character Captain America finally feels as if he has found is place within the universe and 2 me is one of the new best characters within this expanding universe. I could go on and on about how astonishing the film is but 2 sum it up, GO WATCH THE FILM, u will be entertained and taking away by the amazing acting, plot, characters and jaw dropping action scenes.

I still don't think it's good though. There are two big problems with this film for me. First, the premise is just not believable (yes, I know this is a comic book film). Second, the plot is very poorly written, and the dialogue is so cringe-worthy that I was laughing half the time, especially during the "emotional scenes" that are supposed to build character. I see what they were trying to do with Captain struggling in the modern world, but it was executed very poorly. Even if you accept the premise, the film is so horribly predictable and bland, you know the villains and the outcome from the beginning. And don't even get me started on how useless the Winter Soldier is.

Here is a simple example of the poor writing in this film: at the beginning of the film, the bad guys try to kill Fury...by shooting his car with hundreds of bullets. Why not just assassinate him quietly, or at least blow up his car with a bomb or something?

The only redeeming factor is the action. I actually feel it was a lot better than the first film in that regard. The fighting style and the shield use were awesome, especially in the earlier scenes. I also loved the fight against GSP, to show that although Cap. is superhuman, a top-conditioned normal person can still make him sweat.

I hated when Zola explained the whole evil plan to Captain America and Black Widow in the secret underground lab. I know he was stalling but he would've said something else that's **** I also hated how Black Widow kept trying to hook Captain America with a date. This movie lacked humor. But the action sequences between Captain America and Hydra/Winter Soldier was amazing. Expand

Entertaining, but missed the opportunity to be a great movie by not diving deeper into the freedom vs. security debate the movie promoted. Marvel keeps missing the mark with the refusal to make a darker superhero film.

An unexpected story with larger roles for characters such as Nick Fury and Black Widow that definitely sets a new standard for future marvel films. My only concern about the movie is that I found the Winter Soldier to have less screen time than he deserved, especially since he was a very good villain that challenged Captain America both physically and mentally. I found that his character was the second best Marvel villain ever seen, only topped by the superb acting and writing for the character 'Loki.' Expand

It follows the good Captain’s (always reliably played by Chris Evans) struggle to come to terms with his new contemporary life after decade of suspended animation, and of course, his crime fighting responsibilities at the behest of S.H.I.E.L.D., an organization shrouded by so much secrecy, it’s very intentions are put under much scrutiny. While all this is happening a remnant of Captain America’s past has unearthed, in the form of the Winter Soldier, and the fight becomes far more personal. While the premise looks formidable on paper; the final product is as bland as they come - packaged and sealed for mass production by the Marvel Factory. Director’s Anthony and Joe Russo, took very little artistic risks when making this film: channeling extensive, inelegant action scenes, and action movie clichés that make this film predictable and anti-climatic. From the fake deaths to the real villain masquerading as a good guy for the first half of the movie, this film’s got it all! Like most of the other films made by Marvel, this one simply feels like a stepping stone for the next big movie; possessing very little impact as a standalone feature. As such, it feels like another irrelevant entry in the franchise, that’s bound to cash in at the box office. But I can’t begrudge it for making the big bucks, it does offer some mild entertainment; and it feels fair to commend the studio for their win streak, in that regard. However, I remain largely unimpressed by this movie; and yearn for something boldly creative from the studio… not since ‘Iron Man’ (2008), have I truly been smitten. Expand

It is yet another mediocre superhero movie from Marvel. It teased at interesting questions, like, "Is it okay to kill people to prevent them from killing people?" but all it did was tease. The movie changes up Marvel's movie universe a little bit, but for what purpose? So another superhero can save the day next year in a slightly different way while uttering slightly different one-liners? In the end, the movie is about an uncompromising good guy who saves people from dying. That's not interesting in the world of fiction; it's overused. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There’s no point in denying that the new Captain America movie is anything less than another instalment in the superhero saturation of the last ten years, but although the Captain himself has been considered the blandest of the bunch, at least as far as The Avengers (2012) is concerned. It’s still a fantastic world of unbelievable stunts and perfectly timed one-liners, but the new film offers a lot more depth than some of the weaker superhero fare on offer.

In addition to the ambitious Marvel Cinematic Universe, the rich tapestry of interwoven stories that Disney’s Marvel Studios has been crafting at the rate of about two blockbusters a year since 2008’s Iron Man, we have seen everything from the unrelated narratives of Marvel’s Spiderman and X-men series, to the gritty reboots of rival DC classics like Superman and Batman. The Marvel Universe alone is an unprecedented shared universe multimedia franchise, extending from the silver screen to various short films, television series and tie-in comic books.

Wanton American patriotism is far from internationally popular, and the challenge with Captain America as a character is to give this bastion of United States glory modern appeal. The first film took the character back to his roots, giving us a brilliant pulp action adventure, set during the character’s 1940s heyday.

This was an easy place to be Captain America, but after being dragged into the twenty first century in time for The Avengers, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) must work out what America stands for today, and decide what he represents. The temporal displacement is a rich vein to be mined for soul searching and character interpretation.

As a pawn of SHIELD, the superhero intelligence organisation: our Nazi-punching hero has been reduced to a shady covert operative who is unsure if the missions he is sent on are aiding or abetting the forces of evil. This insecurity comes to a head when he learns of SHIELD’s Project Insight, a sinister initiative which operates under the twin axes of surveillance and pre-emptive strikes, undeniably referencing drone controversy and the concerns over US internal surveillance. Thus The Winter Soldier is an espionage thriller, firmly rooted in modern day concerns, but with a style heavily influenced, according to the directors, by cold war conspiracy thrillers from the 1970s.

Events are still very much rooted in the events of the first film, mysterious forces have been working in the background since the end of the war, and the Captain finds himself battling enemies both old and new. Symbolically, he trades his brand new twenty first century black and navy blue uniform for his bright red, white and blue wartime clobber before the film is out.

As is the case with many comic book movies, I am impressed to learn that much which transpires on screen, no matter how incredible or brief, is in fact distilled from the original comics over their seventy year history. I’m certainly not the one to personally notice all this detail, but it’s apparently crammed full of nods to various eras, arcs and character backgrounds.

The characterisation of Falcon, real name Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), was strong. An Air Force veteran, he shares Rogers’ military background and helps him adjust to the modern world. Later, he demonstrates his loyalty when he is called upon once the Captain becomes a fugitive.

Of course, the question having over every post-Avengers solo movie is why characters neglect to call in their superpowered chums to save the day in a fraction of the time. There is a slight aversion in that Captain America does spend the whole film working closely with fellow Avenger Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), who has been largely sidelined in her previous appearances. The truth is that having fewer lead characters mean more attention can be given to others, and Johansson is finally given some significant screen time. Black Widow’s alluring presence is welcome throughout, her moral ambiguity and chequered past providing a stark contrast to the Captain’s clear cut integrity.

Similarly, SHIELD director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is much more important to the story than the cameo status he has held until now. By contrast, the eponymous Winter Soldier, a bionic badass bearing Soviet livery has little screen time, initially filling the role of unbeatable enforcer to the villains, and the only individual strong enough to challenge the Captain, but his tragic presence is vital to the overarching saga. Also noteworthy is Robert Redford’s appearance as a sinister SHIELD executive.

Freedom, the most American of values, nevertheless carries a global relevance, and remains a major theme, but any overt patriotism is relatively, and wisely downplayed, despite the character’s name and apparent raison d’être. What’s left is a solid conspiracy blockbuster, with the superhero status incidental aside from enabling higher octane action sequences than a subtler spy movie.

Here it is, my first review (can't you just feel the excitement?)

The latest installment of the Marvel franchise has landed in the muscly form of Captain America. However the main attraction is neither the size of Chris Evans arms (sorry ladies) nor the pout of the beautiful Scarlett Johansson (never mind boys). Instead, the whole film is nothing short of a game changer for those that follow the Marvel universe and the TV series. Without giving too much away, watching the old films will never be the same again.

Mr Evans does a fantastic job as the man out of time trying to make sense of the world he now inhabits. Joining him this time is Ms Johansson as the arse-kicking Black Widow, and Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, aka, Falcon. Both are great in their sidekick roles; Black Widow gives the girls a reason to cheer by holding her own against the men of the movie, however these moments seem to be inter-cut with several lingering shots of her tightly clad bum. Mackie also plays his part well without looking like he is just auditioning for his own solo film.

The film is action sequence after action sequence but this doesn't detract from the plot. The only negative I have with the faster paced scenes is that sometimes the punches and kicks are a blur (but that could be something to do with my age).

And now onto the titular Winter Soldier. I won't reveal his identity, even if it is pretty much an open secret now. However I will say that, although he is an excellent foil for Steve Roger's Captain, I would have liked to see him a lot more. For a man whose name is in the title, he plays second fiddle to some of the other bad guys.

Despite my Winter Soldier gripe, this is a fantastic film and really does open up the future for the Marvel film franchise. There are little nods to other Marvel characters, both old and new, which should keep every fan boy (and girl) happy. As usual please stay until the end of the credits for two post film sequences, the first of which had me squeal with delight... thank goodness there was only my boyfriend and daughter in the cinema (who were just as excited).

Starting the film off with the "on your left" (if you've seen it then you know) scene reminds of us the great one liners and humor that we enjoy and can always expect from these films. It knows how and when not to take itself too serious. That said, it is far from a campy comedy like we've witnessed in poorly executed movies like the Fantastic 4. No, this one is a darker and much grittier film. A political thriller where no one can be trusted, wherever you turn, someone is trying to get you and big brother is always watching. The film is so well written and directed that you forget you're watching a super hero film and start to think it's a Bourne movie, which is a compliment. It just proves that Captain America has the ability to stand alone in the franchise, as Iron Man has done in his outings. It's packed with fine storytelling and Characters that are very well developed and come into their own as the film progresses. The screen time each of the heroes gets here is well balanced and never feels like too much or too little. Especially with a cast like this one. Redford brings the gravitas that he known for and Samuel L. Jackson finally shows us why he is the General. Filled with enough martial arts, humor, one of the best car chases I've seen, and the occasional CGI spectacle, This one is NOT to be missed! Expand

Captain
Before I get on with the review I have to mention that MCU is an abbreviation of Marvel Cinematic Universe, the universe where all the Marvel-studios movies take place. Are we on the same page? Yes? Good, let’s start the reviewing!

Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is the latest installment in the MCU and it is technically a sequel to both “Captain America: The First Avenger” and “The Avengers” and it follows Captain America (Chris Evans) who now works for S.H.I.E.L.D in modern time. When he discovers a conspiracy in the organisation his loyalties are trusted and old friends turns enemies. In his doubts he also encounters a new foe called the Winter Soldier (I will not say who plays him since that may spoil something for you) and secrets from the past and the present are revealed…

The cast in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is star studded and fantastic! Chris Evans is reprising his role as Cap and he has really grown into the part. Scarlett Johanson, Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders are also back in their roles from previous MCU-movies and they are better than ever! Newcomers to the MCU includes Anthony Mackie and Robert Redford(!). All the actors are fantastic in their roles. The chemistry between, well, everyone is great. Evans and Johansson share intriguing scenes where their characters morals clash. Anthony Mackie’s character is the comic relief but his acting makes the character more than that. It is great to see Samuel L. Jackson’s, Nick Fury get some real action in this film and Robert Redford is very fun to watch.

“Captain America: The Winter Soldier”‘s strongest suit is probably the script, which is weird to say since this is a comic-book movie and this particular genre is not known for strong writing. Every single character is written perfectly with new characters getting enough development and already established ones are explored further. Captain America as a person was not very interesting in the previous two movies he appeared. He is however a very well written (and acted) character in this movie. One thing that was done brilliantly in the script was that the story isn’t just a “fish out of water” arc. Cap does react to his new surroundings in a very fun and cool way but the emphasis is on the S.H.I.E.L.D-and-everyone-who-works-there and Captain America relationships. The Winter Soldier is a perfect character with much depth and, well, he’s a major bad-ass! Not only the characters are written well but the plot is also great. It has, much like the characters, a lot of depth and twists and turns. It plays out very much like a political thriller in present day with the classic, but oh so fitting, “don’t trust anyone” theme.

The action in “Captain America. The Winter Soldier” is nothing short of amazing! I was literally chewing down my nails, panting and I if I wasn’t so tense I would’ve jumped out of my seat because of all the suspense. The movie was rather violent for being a Marvel-studios production and I appreciated that. It gave the movie a sense of realism and it was intense to the limit. When Cap is being punched around you really feel his pain. There are so many great action pieces and scenes with spectacular fight-choreography and jaw-dropping, in lack of a better word, action!

Directors of the movie are Anthony and Joe Russo from “Community” fame. One would not think that a director-duo mostly known for comedy would be suited for a 170 million dollar blockbuster. One would however be wrong! The Russo’s are handling the directing brilliantly. The comedy is definitely not out of hand. As of matter of fact, nothing is out of hand. Everything is balanced well, the tone is perfect for the kind of story that is being told and all the action is shot amazingly! Kudos!

This film is packed with action, has stellar performances a thick plot and solid directing. Giving great nods to comic-book fans and movie fans alike “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” isn’t only a fantastic comic-book movie, it is a fantastic movie in general! Cap is back and he is cooler than ever!

A lot of lovely references just like all Marvel movies and Cap was definitely more fun to watch now that he had EPIC hand to hand combat.

It seemed that the filmmakers were aiming for more than just another action flick; but the elements needed to attain such a level (particularly writing), did not help in reaching it.

The political and moral ideals explored here kept me extremely interested throughout. The themes explored here make you think about whose side you really want to take, and while Marvel pushes Captain America's right wing "uncompromised freedom" angle, the Hydra's "freedom in order" was very interesting. I hated the first Captain America movie, but the way this one was put together made this possibly the best super hero movie I've ever seen other than The Dark Knight Rises. The combination of the themes I mentioned above and the excellent action sequences made it a movie that included everything I love about movies. Robert Redford and Samuel L. Jackson deliver the standout performances here and some of their exchanges are just some of the best acting I've ever seen. I was also surprised by Chris Evans who I felt was the weakest link in the first movie. He plays this character, that I'm not exactly fond of, really well. The film also has one of the greatest villains in an action movie. The Winter Soldier is smart. He is an equal to the films protagonist and that's what made him so excellent. See this movie. If you have any interest in film, Marvel, politics, morality, or Captain America, this is a must see film. Expand

How delighted then to come out of the cinema with more than a satisfied grin plastered on my face. Its a big call but this Captain America is most likely the best of the Marvel films yet.
This Steve Rogers(Cap) has a new world to experiment with and the film finds balance (not quite as superficially as you would think) between his struggle between doing the 'right' thing and his political beliefs and notions. It also might help him to listen to Nirvana and watch The Empire Strikes Back. Theres much research to be done, especially after the events after The Avengers, but again Cap is thrown into an unprecedented situation.
Action set pieces are tight and well choreographed with some innovative fights, not to mention one spectacularly intense scene involving Nick Fury(Sam Jackson) and his accessorized heavy vehicle.
This is bone on bone and you can hear every crushing detail, and despite a flurry of CGI towards the end, a lot of it is of the practical variety. As an action heavy thriller it really is cracking stuff and plays out like a hybrid of The Fugitive meets Mission Impossible 3.
I expect great things from the Russo brothers, the directors and they hopefully will helm more action films in the future.
Robert Redford is a nice touch and brings a shady, 1970's conspiracy vibe, Scarlett Johansson seems to deliver her lines wonderfully and kicks butt with the rest of them and Mackies The Falcon is given a decent back story where i couldn't help thinking it was his The Hurt Locker character somehow transcended into this film.
There is some cookie cutter stuff at times with the dialogue and a cliched reveal that smelt of the film makers wimping out for the sake of audiences rejoicing in such conspicuous fanfare but all in all this is a very surprising and engaging film that serves the cannon of Marvel very well indeed. Now, where to purchase one of those shields!

ThereCaptain America: The Winter Soldier is a mixed bag for me having a lot of things I want in a superhero movie yet also some of the things I don’t like. The new setting and tone make the film feel fresh and different from the first film. There is a really good moral dilemma that I’m curious to see how it is tackled in future films. The characters have good dilemmas and people such as Black Widow and Nick Fury get more screen time than previous films and plenty of insight is provided into them. However, excessive action; moral dilemmas that just get dropped at the sideline; and an underused villain (although this is more misleading marketing than anything) prevent the film from being anything spectacular. Fans of the Marvel films should definitely check it out as by now you know what to expect and will probably have fun with the movie. If you aren’t a fan of this genre though then this film will not do much to change your mind although if you are planning on seeing The Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), then you probably should as the events this film will likely have major repercussions in that film. Also, there are two credit scenes one midway through the credits and one at the end so once you see the first one don’t do what everyone in my theater did and get up and leave. Expand

It's a smart film that's exceptional before you take in it's gestalt. Writing - great, directing and cinematography - perfect, but it's cast is arguably the finest component of the Film. Chris Evans maintains his great character from The First Avenger, but now has to cope with a radically different world than the one he came from. Scarlett Johanssen finally gets enough screen-time to show that she can carry anything stand-alone Black Widow. Anthony Mackie finally gets a role where director's shadow does cover up his exceptional acting talent. Sam Jackson actually gets some moments to not just be Sam Jackson, but the genre-savvy character he implied to be since Iron Man 2. Sebastian Stan deserves praise for how well his screen presence carries given how much of it versus how little dialogue he actually has. Finally Robert Redford does well as Alexander Pierce, a character loaded with mystery who's a rabbit-hole you can't help but to look down. And warning; before you see any other new releases from Marvel Studios (save for Guardians of the Galaxy), see this first. This film also maintains the shift to darker tones that we've also seen in the other Phase II films released (Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World). Christopher Markus and Stephen Mcfeely were being real about a political thriller in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Expand

For me, the only issues I had was some action scenes where it was just stupid. What I mean is, it is that classic hundred guys shooting at one person and that person never gets hit or just a minor wound. There was many cliche moments. Thankfully the corn ball issues that can happen in super hero movies was kept down, not totally gone, but at okay levels.

The plot was good and the acting was in general good. The did use shaky cam at times during action scenes. If you really hate that, you may want to skip this movie. They do not do it a ton, but enough to annoy people who hate that.

As you would expect, the special effects were solid overall. Not to often did it had a video game feel.

If you are expecting an original story with amazing acting, this is not for you. If you are looking for a popcorn flick for a fun time, this is a good choice. I do think Marvel is going to have to find ways to make the movies a little harder to predict if they do not want people to get burned out on them.

More like The Dark Knight than "The Avengers
Captain America: The Winter Soldier manages to have the perfect balance of seriousness, humour and a complex plot that not only raises the stakes for the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe but also manages to keep intact who Captain America is and how the world should be more like him not the other way around.
The action is the best action in a Marvel movie and the soundtrack keeps you on the edge of your seat as the plot evolves. Acting wise everyone fits their role perfectly and special mention to newcomers Anthony Mackie who gets most of the more funny scenes as Falcon and Robert Redford who turned what could have been a boring character in Alexander Pierce into a truly well rounded character.
On par with The Avengers as the best Marvel film.

This new story of The Cap is brought into the modern world and it’s fun seeing him deal with how much the world has changed, but at the same time how much it has stayed the same. The script is well written. It is filled with great relevant social commentary about our government and major organizations and how they preserve freedom by reistricting it. However, while the script is fairly heavy, it does manage to have enough fun Marvel humor that we’ve all come to love.

One thing in particular that I love about this movie is that it gives a lot of respect to its characters. The Captain himself is show to be more than just a leader. He can hold his own, but is also a great human being. Chris Evans has finally owned the character and it’s hard seeing anyone else play him. We also get more backstory to Natasha a.k.a Black Widow. It allows the audience to connect with her on an emotional level. Same goes for Nick Fury. The Winter Soldier is a pretty awesome villain, who I believe to be the best villain from the Marvel Cinematic universe only behind Loki.

Overall, “Captain America:The Winter Soldier” is a fairly entertaining and surprisingly thought provoking movie that is stepping up the quality of the modern superhero movie genre. It has everything from great characters, to an engaging and honest story, to some of the best action we’ll get this year. My only gripe with the film would be the heavy use of shaky cam during the action sequences. Other than that, it is a a movie that you go and see in theaters today. Also, stay after the credits there is a big reveal that will surely get everyone excited for The Avengers 2. I give 4/5

Like some of the films of the 1940s that let themselves get bogged down in shoe-horned love stories, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” stumbled hard in the middle of the narrative.

Much of the problems in this film stem from Scarlett Johansson’s character. She’s really unnecessary to the overall nature of the film, except to impart some level of humanity to Captain Rogers. But the character of Emily VanCamp has no logical function at all. Ultimately, if the story had stuck to its guns as a political thriller throughout, it could have been fantastic. However, the film felt too bloated with all of its characters and it brought the film to a screeching halt.

Movies like “The French Connection” and “Serpico” live up to the political thriller genre. Unfortunately, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” may be entertaining in a fun way but it is more a movie for kids and not the thinking man's political thriller we were promised by Disney/Marvel.

Great movie... I thought that it will follow the path of Iron Man and decline a little but it was, to my opinion, as good or even better than the first one.

He enlists Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and newbie The Falcon (Anthony Mackie) to help. This may be the most unoriginal screenplay yet for Marvel heroes: no surprises, no peril and no humor. It moves forward with momentum and some of the visuals are cool. Most of the fights are fast cut, hand held and hard to follow. While it's never dull, the predictability and unimaginative action don't render it special. NOTE: There's one additional clip after the closing titles and another after the final credits. Expand

The movie is what one might expect in a superhero flick, great explosive action scenes, and perhaps more with its spy thriller aspect. However, the chemistry between characters isn't maximized, the humor is severely lacking and with a social commentary element of national security, the movie could've done more instead of resorting to unenterprising conclusion.

The plot revolves around espionage, a modern subject which strings together conspiracy theory and relatable cause. This gives the original comic identity a fitting rejuvenation of modern day interpretation, but it lacks depth and only scratches the surface of the issue. Enemy of the State from more than a decade ago did a better, more harrowing portrayal of information surveillance. The movie is also vexed by several action movie flaws, such as characters conveniently meet or flee in certain scenes, quizzical plot device and a rather cliché use of indoctrination.

Chris Evans plays the role of Captain America / Steve Rogers pretty well. He's not a simple minded patriot rather a man given the position of hero and yet still has his doubts. The cast of Evans is a good choice, he looks suitable for the character without trying to be a superhero. Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow / Natasha Romanoff delivers as the femme fatale, although this might be a restriction as well. There are some scenes where the character could be more genuine or emotional, but bravado remains a more prevalent trait.

Anthony Mackie as Falcon / Sam Wilson does a proper job of creating a partner persona for Captain America. Even though he's still in sidekick role, the character as a veteran and counselor for others with PTSD can be developed further. He shows some compatibility with Captain America, plus the bond of soldiers is a good foundation. Samuel L. Jackson is undoubtedly charismatic as Nick Fury. There's an imposing and sly atmosphere he brought as the leader role.

Despite the decent cast, they don't have much affinity. Evans and Johansson look awkward, granted their on-screen relationship isn't a romantic one, but it doesn't feel that they possess much sense of camaraderie. The jokes between characters just fail to entertain; they are written in mediocrity and delivered with the same level of lackluster nature. It tries to display more personal appeal or witty charm, but doesn't really excel in either.

The stunts are definitely better than most superhero or action movies. Instead of relying too much on CG, the movie opts for faster more aggressive live action fight scenes. This is a great direction due to raw intensity it presents during the action; the way the Captain's shield is intriguing as well. It doesn't mean that it's short on CG spectacles as there are many mandatory shootouts and explosions throughout the movie, and they are also appropriately translated to 3D, the computer generated effects are simply used in moderation effectively.

Captain America: The Winter brings great solid cast and mix of action and CG, but cautious delivery of espionage premise, persistent flaw of plausibility and shortage of humor make the movie rather uninspiring.

The only issue I had with the movie was the over use of shaky-cam effects. I like to see the action, not try to guess at what is happening on the screen. Fortunately, they don't have too many moments that use this effect.

Superhero movie of the year? Possibly. I'll have to wait till Guardian of the Galaxy is released to say for sure. Being part of the MCU already puts it ahead of X Men and Spider Man no matter how great they may be

As with most of the Avenger side-movies, the story is a bit 'out-there' and could have been more epic.
However, the action scenes are beautifully choreographed and the actors carried the movie very well.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A comic book movie with a bit of substance. It seemed as if "Captain America" met "Watergate", "Iran-Contra" and some good ole fashioned genocide all rolled into one organization. To cast Robert Redford was an act of brilliance and the action scenes involving the Captain, SHIELD and "Winter Soldier" were some of the best that I have seen in years. On a side note, this may turn the "Agents of SHIELD" T.V. show upside down. Expand

Since Joe Johnston didn't direct this one, it doesn't have that corny historic feel to it kinda like the first one did. Instead, this one takes a much darker turn and allows for much greater plot development. Chris Evans once again fulfills the title role nicely, as does Scarlett Johansson, who returns as Black Widow. I was also glad to see Samuel L. Jackson in this one reprising his Nick Fury role. There were also some good new cast additions, like Robert Redford. Great action sequences, along with a cool new villain really made this a great addition to the series of standalone Avenger films before Avengers 2 hits theaters next year. It's certainly not the best standalone film, but it's pretty high up there. And yes, there are two post-credit scenes at the end. Expand

Iron Man 1 and Avengers are on that list just for reference. Go see this. I am very critical, and there were only three or four times that some truly impossible stuff happened, and I won't be too specific since I don't want to spoil anything. I will say that mostly it was due to some damage that regular humans took that didn't really damage them and could have killed them and at the least broke them. Other than this, I will say that Cap blocks bullets with his shield a lot and it just got ridiculous at one point. Expand

I was slightly impressed by this movie more than the last because of my dislike towards the first. But what surprised me was how correlation and connection that they had with the first movie. This one reminded us about a lot of the stuff that went on the first movie and even a little bit of the avengers. Marvel has been really successful in the past and what they need is some connection with other marvel characters from their own movies. I really loved the references toward other obvious marvel characters like Iron Man and even Doctor Strange! I know that Doctor Strange doesn't even have his own movie yet but it gave me goosebumps. Anyways, the movie was very confusing most of the time. Nearly half way through the movie, nothing was explained and you had no idea what was going on. I was also very pissed off at the bad guys. Well I guess that makes sense because of when we finally get to see them get it handed to them at the end like every other marvel or action movie. What I really did like was how little CGI they used to perform these stunts which is a plus. But what wasn't so great was that you couldn't exactly see the actors doing everything. There was a minimum usage of shaky cam to mask the fact that the actors weren't really doing these stunts. I wasn't sure if they were actually doing the stunts but I was glad there wasn't really much CGI. So I thank the directors for that. Another plus was the character of Sam Wilson, who is Falcon. He had a great character and I was excited to see him in his scenes which he always owned. He was a great addition to the film and it was cool to see Cap with Falcon as they were teamed up in the comics. It was an entertaining movie. It has made me interested in Captain America more than the first one even though I have never been that big of a fan of his character. There was a lot of "WHAT?!" and confusing moments in this movie but it was somewhat resolved up towards the end. I'm not going to use the term "overrated" but I didn't think this movie was that great as everyone thought since everyone thinks so highly of Captain America nowadays. But a decent movie. No spoilers but a really cool ending credits scene tease that got me really hype. Expand

Once they made the Avengers that was it. How could any of the hero's go on to have solo missions where the world is at stake...It doesnt make sense. Small scale missions sure, but with scenarios in these movies getting more and more elaborate it just defies reason.

For every huge moment within Captain Amurica 2 I found myself saying 'Iron Man should pop in here', or 'Hulk would sort this out'. These guys are the worlds best defense...where do they all go when one of them is in trouble? Somewhere else I guess. Its like the producers say to themselves, which is the least cgi heavy character that we can shoe horn in here....ummm Black Widow...hell ya she doesnt change into anything, her costume isnt made of metal plates and she doesnt have a whirling hammer to make her fly.

A world with so many heros...one fighting the forces of evil with the help of loads of non super hero characters and birdman well it just doesnt wash. For that reason I found it hard to get into Cat-pain America 2, the dynamic of the world just didnt sit right, the main characters kept name dropping the other heros...instead of the other heros just dropping in.

As movies go it was passable, not as poor as Cup-tain Amerreeka but still only passable.

While I thought it had more action and "badassery" it felt like it was a bit void of the developmental elements that made the first film strong. I also thought there was a bit too much humor early on. The Falcon character is where the lack of development hurt the most as he felt forced on us. It felt like he existed only to make certain scenes and plot points possible. To me, that's lazy writing. Either develop him more and add a bit more time to the film or leave him out entirely and find different ways to make things happen. I also thought Scar Jo's character still lacked much development. She had more screen time than in any of the previous movies but I think her and Cobie Smulder's character, agent Hill, continue to be the most underutilized characters in the series. Nonetheless, the action and special effects were amazing and the acting was good enough. Expand
