In fact, besides the original Iron Man and the Avengers, I don't really care too much for it. That includes Captain America: The First Avenger, a movie that felt a little too safe and convenient at times. However...

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is an excellent thriller...

One that finally finds the proper ground for Captain America to exist without having him around just to set up the Avengers. Chris Evans finally feels right as Capt, and the movie is truly an action packed roller coaster right of enjoyment.

What's bad about the movie? Scarlett Johansen...Once again, just like in the Avengers, she just doesn't fit into this super hero universe. She fails to deliver every humorist lines she is given, to the point is just painful to hear. This would not be such a big problem if she wasn't always there! The movie should be called, Captain America & Black Widow: The Winter Soldier....

For Captain America 3, drop the Black Widow character. She slows things down and often just spoils moments. Nevertheless, I truly did enjoy The Winter Soldier!

This is my favorite of the phase II Marvel movies, yes I liked it more than Gaurdians. I believe it is the best Marvel movie since the first Iron Man. Expand

But I was really surprised on how much I enjoyed this film, It acts as a squeal to the first Captain America film and The Avengers so there is lots for the story to cover. It follows Cap working with SHIELD and highlights how different his views are compared to that of SHIELD. All the big name SHIELD agents are back to :Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson and Anthony Mackie. The Action in this movie (What really Matters) Is amazing, Car cases,Great CGI and just all around ass kicking. It held my attention much better then the first, great for a weekend movie night.

They finally started showing some of the reasons Captain America is so beloved. The story suffers though as they give too much spotlight on every major character in the movie. At times it seems everyone else is doing something more heroic than the captain. It's just odd that Captain America who is supposed to be one of the best martial artist and fighters in the Marvel universe seems just on par with your average Shield Agent. We have to remember though, it's a super hero movie, and in that area it delivers. Expand

Returning to the role ofThe best Marvel Cinematic Universe film there has ever been, with the exception of The Avengers. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is first and foremost a political thriller with the essence of a superhero movie. Returning to the role of Steve Rodgers, I can safely and assuredly say that Chris Evans is Captain America. One of the best parts of this sequel was the chemistry between the actors, especially between Evans and Scarlett Johansson. The dialogue they share stays compelling and doesn't feel forced at all. And speaking about not feeling forced, Anthony Mackie joins the cast as The Falcon. This could've easily been one of the weak points of the film, as history has proved that the addition of a sidekick tends to backfire on the film. However, Mackie does a great job in providing humour and playing a character that Rodgers can truly identify with and befriend, as they are both war veterans and have similar outlooks on life. Samuel Jackson has appeared in his fair share of Marvel films, yet he was always just a voice in the background. That couldn't be farther from the truth in Marvel's newest addition to their cinematic universe because Nick Fury finally gets down and gritty. The action has never been better and greater than they are here. From the martial arts style fights to the epic set piece battles to an incredibly shot car chase scene, this film will not only amaze superhero fans but action fans as well. Many people are interested about the Winter Soldier and if he is a worthy and menacing antagonist, and the answer to that question is an emphatic yes. Sebastian Stans's performances reminds me of Tom Hardy's Bane from The Dark Knight Rises in that both men have most of their face covered, with their eyes telling a story all on their own. Being the figure in the shadows and suddenly appearing out of nowhere throughout the movie was fantastic as it helped maintain the tone that the directors were gunning for. This is Marvel's response to The Dark Knight in terms of its dark and gritty approach, tackling spy and political themes that are very relevant in today's world. The Russo brother's directing of this film, I think, was probably the best aspect of it. They did a marvelous job in transitioning from the action scenes to the comedy, and then to the emotional character driven moments. Not to be outshined, the script was the best of the Marvel movies, and a large part of that was the character development, which some superhero movies tend to lack. Is it a great superhero movie? Yes. Is it a great MOVIE? Yes. Does it take the genre and go beyond its own limitations and journey into uncharted territory, just as The Dark Knight did? Yes. This is truly an exciting time to be living in. Expand

It's both an action packed superhero movie and a well-paced and tension filled political thriller. I can't give enough praise to the excellent Captain America vs. Winter Soldier fights. The best moments in the film are when the two of them are on-screen together in my opinion.

It's definitely something different than what you would expect from a Marvel film. It feels more real than the others. Like the vents and the hero on display here are something that could actually happen. The tone is also more serious and a little darker than other Marvel movies, yet it still feels like it's apart of that universe. I just love all of the little hints and references hidden throughout to other heroes or more obscure villains. For instance the inclusion of Batroc the Leaper tickled my inner comic book nerd. Be sure to stick through the credits until the very end.

"The Winter Soldier" is another excellent Marvel film that not only expands upon the first movie, but the universe as a whole. I can't wait to see where they take things from here and I highly recommend the movie. It's one of the best the MCU has seen so far.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" is absolutely fabulous (though there are several unanswered questions that really disappointed me at first), being better than the original "Captain America" film and better than "The Avengers" (which I believed to be too crowded with characters). I am definitely interested in seeing the third film, but I would love to see Scarlett Johansson's character (Black Widow) spin off into a new franchise (which one of the scenes pointed to) or have the characters of Captain America (Chris Evans) and Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow somehow become more then just co-workers (or both). Just a thought. Expand

Verdict: Marvel Betrayal

Story: So we have seen what happened to Tony Stark after the Avengers now it is time to look at Captain America. He has learnt to adapt to the future, but still hasn’t really made any new friends. This story shows how the SHIELD has been compromised and Captain America has become the villain, he must clear his name and find out what has happened and who is responsible. Seems simple really, we have a few personal battles like Captain America and The Winter Soldier true identity. In the end it is a welcome addition to the series and with a post credits scene that really builds to the next chapter but in the end I found this just another average comic book story that is important to the series but not the most memorable. (7/10)

Actor Review

Chris Evans: Captain America now used to the future but when Nick Fury is killed, he is the only one who can uncover the truth, but he does bring along a couple of familiar faces and a few new faces that are welcome allies. He has to prove who was responsible before he is taken out but SHEILD. Good performance from Evans who is growing into the role as the films come. (9/10)

captain

Samuel L. Jackson: Nick Fury planning to always be one step ahead at SHIELD he gets blocked out of the system before being target by assassins. Fury would eventually return to Captain America for help before he is killed leading to everything else that happens. Good supporting performance with typical Jackson intensity. (8/10)

fury

Scarlett Johansson: Black Widow the deadly assassin who teams up with Captain to uncover the truth, with her brilliant combat skills she makes a great addition to the team. Good performance showing her kick ass skills. (8/10)

widow

Robert Redford: Alexander Pierce the head of SHIELD who has been planning his own take over using his connection with HYDRA. He uses his intelligence to get what he wants and push people into supporting him. Good villain performance without using any combats just his brains. (8/10)

redford

Sebastian Stan: Winter Solider an assassin who is trying to kill Captain America, but he is also a man from his past, Captain tries to talk him around but he is fully programed to kill and complete his mission. Good performance making a villain with conflict. (8/10)

winter solder

Anthony Mackie: Falcon a soldier with big dreams that bumps into Captain who gives him a chance to prove himself, which he does becoming a trust ally in fights. Good performance in the sidekick role. (8/10)

falcon

Director Review: Anthony Russo, Joe Russo – Good direction to keep the franchise going in the right direction. (8/10)

Action: Good action that keeps upping the levels as film continues. (9/10)

Sci-Fi: Good look at a future world that could happen with the wrong people in power. (9/10)

Settings: Good settings used but nothing that can really make the sense different. (7/10)
Special Effects: Solid special effects used throughout. (9/10)

Suggestion: This one for all the franchise fans and all action fans will enjoy this. (Action Fans Watch)

Best Part: Car invasion.

Worst Part: Filler for next part.

Action Scene Of The Film: Final Fight

Funniest Scene: Interrogation scene.

Believability: No (0/10)
Chances of Tears: No (0/10) Chances of Sequel: Yes Post Credits Scene: Yes Oscar Chances: No Box Office: $713 Million Budget: $170 Million Runtime: 2 Hours 16 Minutes Tagline: In heroes we trust. Overall: Just Another Superhero Film

I think Captain America rose up to his stage and became who the comics intended him to be for the most part in this one. It was a well structured plot that kept you awake and guessing. If not the plot, there were a few females with decent screen time to drool over so that works too. It delivered simply a solid movie about a super hero that isn't all flash (no pun intended) and gloss. Hard to do these days. A usable plot coupled with moral dilemma was a good angle. I'm not majorly impressed with the acting or the scale of the movie though. Wouldn't a problem this big like probably get some of the other Avengers involved? The more important ones? Just sayin. Marvel's taking over and there's not much we can do except hope they can stay consistent. Not all of them are great but this one is worth a watch. Expand

A definite improvement on the first movie.

Lots of action, lots of character focus. Yet, no real bad guy (not really.) I was kind of disappointed that the title character is barely in the movie. Granted the backstory and the events of the movie revolves around him heavily, yet he's not really there. And he was so cool!

Black Widow's character really is nowhere near as cool as she was in the Avenger movie. She feels really mellow by comparison.

Overall:
While I had expected allot more from this movie, it still was decent and allot of fun to watch. I just wish they had done more with it.

Marvel knows how to 'deliver' a good movie. This one was not as action packed as some other efforts by the company and as a result, it is almost refreshing. Although there are a few spots where it slows down just a bit too much, over all the pace is nicely mixed.

I like the story and I will avoid any spoilers for those of you who have not seen it. The query as to “what”, lies in the overall plot being clearly another attempt to build a base for another marvel movie or two in the future. This film feels too much like a bridge to other projects. That itself is not entirely bad, but the film does not need to serve as a prop or lead in for other “bigger” movies. This movie had the chops to stand alone.

Chris Evans is again excellent as the out of his time, boy scout; Captain Steve Rogers, AKA Captain America. Samuel L. Jackson has an expanded role as Nick Fury and of course is awesome. As a funny side note; my son and I recently watched ‘Pulp Fiction’ and we both kept waiting for Nick Fury to say “motherf****r”. Of course it didn’t happen and he didn’t recite Ezekiel 25:17 either ;) Robert Redford does a nice job as Alexander Pierce but this is far from his best work. Redford’s character is involved significantly in this film and much of the plot twist revolves around him.

There are a few surprises in the plot development of this movie. Big surprises. Really big surprises. The ending of this film may leave you wondering where the hell Marvel is taking us. The after credits of course provide some insight, so stay put till the very end. I like the Winter Soldier. This antagonist character is done quite well and merges important aspects of the Captain America story from this latest round of films. I will leave it at that to avoid spoilers.

I think that the two stand alone Captain America movies and the Cap’s role in the Avengers has been outstanding. Having Natasha Romanov as a major character in the Winter Soldier is fabulous and I am very glad they merged the two so well. Really, is there anyone that doesn’t like watching Scarlett Johansson kick ass in a skin-tight outfit, I mean really, anyone? And her trying to set up Captain Rogers with a date? There is a piece of speculative foreshadowing I can reveal without damaging the credibility of my “no spoilers” promise. Romanov and the Cap in a short lived romance in some future Marvel movie? Nah… probably not.

This is a good movie and you should see it.

I was coming into this movie expecting a lot of explaining and story behind the Winter Soldier himself. I thought this movie was gonna be all about Bucky Barns (who is the Winter Soldier by the way). This movie doesn't focus on the villain as the title suggest, but it focusses a lot on SHIELD and Nick Fury and Captain America's relationship. This isn't a bad thing, as it adds a lot to what we know about SHIELD itself. It also has a lot of Captain America shield action, and him fighting stuff (which is always cool). Also, the acting and tone of the movie is really good. It was dark and gritty, and it felt a lot like a spy type movie. It didn't feel one bit like a comic book movie, unfortunately. It took a lot from the pages of the Dark Knight, but I thought the realism was too extreme. In a world where the Hulk exists, you don't have to do that. The plot was also really confusing and hard to follow along with. Overall, the action sequences were great, and the tone and acting were both outstanding. I loved Black Widow and Falcon as supporting characters as well. Unfortunately, it was confusing and at times a bit slow. The good still out-weighs the bad, and a 8/10 is a fair score. It is the best Marvel phase 2 movie so far, and it challenges Iron Man 1 as a the best movie in the Avengers world besides the Avengers itself. Expand

This time the story set in the modern world only if you are not taking 'The Avengers' in the account. The cast was expanded, I mean the sidekicks were introduced. Looked the strength of the 'good' has doubled, but the villain was also equally good. The first praising words goes the directors for handling it well and hope they are going to repeat the same magic for the next movie as well.

This story commence just after 'The Avengers'. Captain America and Black Widow are sent to free hostages and collect some data. Soon after the SHEILD director Fury is targeted by an assassin called Winter Soldier. After this incident the weight leans on Captain America, he becomes the prime suspect. With the help of Black Widow and a new wingman called Falcon, he seeks the truth. Unexpectedly the story strikes with a twist and exposes the man behind it. Once everything revealed the tension arise between good and bad before it ends with a convincing solution.

‘‘Before we get started,
does anyone want to get out?’’

The escape scene of Samuel L. Jackson was awesome and I wanted it a little longer. The new addition, Falcon was another brilliant, just like the sidekick Robin from the Batman world. The story was okay, but the excellent performances and visual narration were the movie's strength. The 3D effects were better than I expected. In a few scenes I thought the villain Winter Soldier was better than the Captain America. He was a surprise package, if you just ignore the antagonist tag he can surely be your favorite from this movie. Even I liked his costume and he also performed some great stunts.

One thing I fascinated about this production house's movie are the post-credit scenes. Yeah, this movie had one too, but that particular scene created lots of curiosity. A good movie and will definitely pass the test being a follow-up either after 'The Avengers' or to 'The First Avenger'. Again Marvel did a wonder job. Just keep those coming, and it will be well backed by the audience if it is worth. The good days are just began for sci-fi and superhero themes. I think I said it every time during Marvel's movie reviews. One last reminder for all that don't miss any marvel's movies because the stories and characters are connected each other since the 'The Avengers' made a debut.

I really hated the first Capta film, I felt is was more Capta in Limbo than Capta in America.
well to be honest it sent me to sleep. the story of some puppet idiot who wants to go off and take orders from a corrupt imperialist government, OK the USA were the heroes in WW2 but I generally get the stink of false heroism when I hear about the USA today so didn't really like the story about the super soldier. the first film sent me to sleep, SO I had no interest in this film initially, until my friend convinced me to watch it.

I was quite surprised as right from the start the film was suggesting Capta's disagreement with the way the USA was going. He seemed to be at odds with what America has become and so I really started to take an interest. As the film continued I was really impressed at the themes they were exploring and grew to really like Capta and his stance. I started to understand that Capta embodies the true American spirit ; the idea of America that I admired from an early age. The character were quite interesting and although some of them were pretty predictable, there were a couple of times in this film where I was truly surprised. The movement of Capta and the other characters was really impressive, nothing at all like a Michael Bay film where you can't follow the action at all. this was all very clean movement and was very well choreographed. the action sequences were quite exciting and not dumbed down IMO. All in all, this movie turned me into a fan of Capta and now I want to read his comic book about the 'Civil War'.

Who would have though that a movie by Marvel, could be politically astute and suspenseful. And it truly is superior with it's predecessor.

The first thing that really did blow my mind of while watching The Winter Soldier is the CGI, so spectacular, a big improvement since the First Avenger. Just as the CGI, the 3D is incredible, even though there isn't that much 3D-effects. The basic of Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the political/thriller environment, and I didn't expect that in movie by Marvel, so I really got a surprise while watching The Winter soldier, and I think it's wonderful to have such genres in a universe full of superheroes. The story in The Winter Soldier is well thought out, and it really is something wonderful and unique about it.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a highly entertaining, cool and groovy movie from Marvel, and combined with an awesome soundtrack isn't there much negative things about this film. Unfortunately there are some tiny, but important mistakes that made the film (from my perspective) weird. One of these is the high amount of destruction combined with defeat. My explanation is that while sitting in the cinema watching this film, I felt wastefulness in the film, with all the destruction and devastation, what a waste! Another thing that's bad in The Winter Soldier is the ending, it could have been more exiting and entertaining, even though the post-credits scene is awesome! Even though I thought Captain America: The Winter Soldier would be incredible to watch, and that I later was a bit disappointed, I still think Marvel did a hell of a job, especially that they succesfully combined the genres science fiction and action with political thriller.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier got many awesome parts, but at the same time a number of fundamental flaws.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier gets a 8.4/10

Typically, it is usually hard for a sequel to match the high velocity levels, and flare of its predecessor. And, hardly is there a sequel that can OUTDO it's original counterpart. Well folks, I just saw "Captain America: The Winter Soldier"Typically, it is usually hard for a sequel to match the high velocity levels, and flare of its predecessor. And, hardly is there a sequel that can OUTDO it's original counterpart. Well folks, I just saw "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and it subsequently does just that. Marvel has proven time, and time again, they are a forced to be reckoned with. This sequel solidifies them, as the most prestigious studio making films today. "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" is more than just a superhero film, it's a harrowing plot line, rich and engaging from start to finish. Inflamed by the testosterone goodness that make us all cringe with excitement. "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" is just something, we don't see, as moviegoers, very often.

Chris Evans, is back in full action as the Captain, Steve Rogers. Now forced to reconcile in the real word, at the hands of the shield agency, working for Nick Fury (Samuel Jackson). After the events in New York, the Captain has taken a new lead. However, after a run in with a being they call "The Winter Soldier" leaving Fury close to death. Things are not as them seem. Framing the Captain, and the Shield organization. Along the way enlisting in the help of Sam Wilson, a.k.a The Falcon (Anthony Mackie), to defend the justice they once stood for... did my best to describe the film without any spoilers!.

First off, I simply congratulate directors, Antony and Joe Russo for their mesmerizing work on this film. Get this, their previous work was mainly on the NBC comedy "Community" . So their transition to the big screen was fantastic. However, the true magic is within the screenplay written by; Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely. The writers not only attribute and acknowledge the whole superhero plot. They also indulge a different style, not privy to the confines of natural superhero films. Adding in a whole subtext on the Shield organization, that makes it all the more entertaining. There is also a brief scene with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) now 98 years old, that was very deep and touching.

I was so happy than we got to delve more into the past of Steve Rogers, and learn about the captain. The subplots were so intentional, and perfect in every sense. Most sequels tend to get sloppy or lazy upon arrival. Hence, "Iron Man 2" or "Spider Man 3". As far as the Marvel cinematic universe goes. Aside from "The Avengers" (which is tough to consider, it could be it's own category) The Winter Soldier is ideally, their best work yet. Thanks to what I refer to as the "dream time". Brothers, Anthony and Joe Russo, have a slick design, and flawless action sequences, some of the best in recent memory. Not to mention a grand finale, that will have you biting your nails, but, on the verge of cheering for more.

Continuing on, the action sequences were very well shot, the hand to hand combat sequences were, timed perfectly, and entertaining as hell. The car chase sequences were perhaps even better. The Russo brothers, know how to conquer some death defying sequences, but also can take your breath away. They tried to make a political espionage thriller, with superheros, and it worked on all cylinders.

There should be no surprise that I was a ginormous fan of the first film "Captain America: The First Avenger" mainly because I felt I could relate with the character, and well I did. I also, am extremely biased in terms that Captain America is my favorite out of the "Avenger" bunch. Just because he is a real honest human being, which is partially why I loved this move so much. Because, the writers made Steve Rogers a human again, more than just a hero with a shield. A man with morals, and understanding. They also gave him so much range to grow, they made this film so much better than it needed to be, and in the process, has set the bar astronomically high for every superhero film to come, so needless to say, you better watch out. Well played Marvel, well played.

Along with some secondary characters we've seen before, providing an immense depth in the understanding of their actions and how they will affect future stories to come. Sam Jackson has a stronger presence than ever before, validating Nick Fury as a main staple in the MCU among other key characters. Captain America is stronger, faster, and a more refined soldier than ever before, equipped with better fighting skills and a more equipped understanding of modern technology. Evans plays the earnestness of Captain America's good and bad morality with convincing finesse in an age of grey that he has yet to find a comfortable balance. Johansson progresses the allure of the cunning and multifaceted Black Widow, while bringing a splendid and lively balance to Rogers' straight and narrow.
In the midst of such a clever script, 'The Winter Soldier' introduces a band of new characters, all of which play an important role, creating and establishing a more layered and conceivably real MCU. Frank Grillo brings the swelling bundle of muscle known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Brock Rumlow to life. Emily VanCamp surprises with her portrayal of Agent 13, whom Should have had more screen time with Cap than just two quick scenes. Robert Redford plays Alexander Pierce, a superior ranking Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., friend of Nick Fury, and representative of the World Security Council. Pierce is a wonderful look into the higher ranks at S.H.I.E.L.D., contributing new insights as to how the organization is run outside of Fury, Agent Coulson, and Agent Maria Hill. Anthony Mackie is Sam Wilson aka The Falcon, an ex-military special-ops paratrooper and a welcomed addition recruited by Rogers to help fight the good fight. Mackie fits comfortably among the cast of veteran actors and should play nicely with the other Avengers.
Re-designed for combat and strength, The Winter Soldier's brings upon a great intimidation and fear when it comes to any action scene. Sebastian Stan does an incredible job sustaining the character and not letting himself down throughout the scene. The only thing that is left unsaid is how he managed to obtain such power. The connection between Rogers and The Winter Soldier is dealt with true care and excels the story of Captain America from the first film brilliantly. (Staying for the credits will give you a good lead on to Captain America 3.)
The Winter Soldier is an incredible sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers. Writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the duo behind Thor: The Dark World, the Narnia Trilogy, and The First Avenger, have done such a great job shaping Captain America's story, that this movie could be a one hit wonder without the explanation of any prior movies. There are many exciting twists and turns in this well-constructed, political action-thriller, but nothing comes as more of a shock than how important the story is at defining the direction of the MCU. What occurs in The Winter Soldier will inherently influence Avengers: Age of Ultron as well as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – which could definitely make the TV series a lot more interesting and desirable to those who have followed the story line.
Even though, The Winter Soldier is the darkest story we've come to encounter, the attention to detail Creates an immense build, and raising many deep-seated questions about government and soldiers of war while also taking Rogers on an emotional journey. It also has the best action choreography among all of the MCU movies thus far. Whedon's NYC battle in The Avengers is beautifully shot and developed, but cannot compare to the well composed set pieces found in The Winter Soldier, each leading up to the bigger whole. The Russo brothers come from a background of directing television comedies such as Arrested Development and Community, and it's extraordinary how well they handle a big budget action blockbuster from cinematography, to pacing. They do seems to some what portray their own style of comedy with fun references and a cameo other than Stan Lee, functioning properly within the confines of the tone and story. Henry Jackman (Captain Phillips; Wreck-It Ralph; X-Men: First Class) also composes an adrenaline pumping score that sets the necessary mood every time.
The biggest fault or misleading conclusion found in The Winter Soldier is that it does not address the whereabouts of other heroes or where we are in terms of the time line of the other movies. Why can't Captain America call on Tony Stark to help him out or even Hawkeye who is a member of S.H.I.E.L.D. himself? This is a recurring problem we have seen throughout Phase 2 of the MCU in Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World. Marvel Studios should quickly address this problem if they want us to continue to believe all of these characters live in the same universe together. You cannot exclude these characters once you have opened Pandora's Box. Marvel Studios has created another master piece with yet another gripping and suspenseful adaptation for fans to enjoy for years to come. Captain America: The Winter Soldier succeeds on all aspects to what a great movie should contain. It is the perfect set up for films to come and Marvel surely does not play all of their cards, which is great for future films. There is little to argue against its merits and should be described as one of the greatest superhero movies of all time.

Marvel does a bad job when it comes to forgetting about other characters that still exist in this world. If you don't want them in the movie, you better come up at least a mention as to why they are not here. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Cap is back, far more comfortable with his super-soldier physique, his top-secret SHIELD missions, and the modern world around him. The Avengers honestly made Captain America look like a bench-warmer compared to the abilities of Hulk, Iron Man and Thor. This film emphasizes Cap's abilities and what he is truly capable of, and the best word to describe it: Redemption. I have always been far more a fan of super heroes I can connect to rather than how bad-ass they are. I love Iron Man, but he's such a screw-around playboy that I really cannot tell when his emotions are at stake and when he takes things seriously. I mean right after his near-death incident in Avengers, he suggested they go to a well-reviewed local diner. Don't get me wrong, they nailed Tony Stark's character and who he is, but who he is just is not completely similar to who I am. (I mean I was awarded class clown, but I have my morals). Steve Rogers has the most heart out of any avenger. He has a reason he wants to save people: "I don't like bullies." This installment in the MCU holds a storyline I have fallen in love with. It makes it seem like Captain America is a true American hero via his exhibit at the Smithsonian, and one cannot help but feel his pain when he visits the now-aged Peggy. Great scene, great script, great acting. Captain America: The Winter Soldier KNOWS what it is about as well, unlike following Marvel Blockbuster "The Amazing Spider-Man 2". Captain America believes in freedom. He is the true definition of a hero, a savior, a leader, an avenger. Aside from the main plot of Hydra's diabolical schemes, the film's has such strong supporting characters. Scarlett Johanson is almost as comfortable as Black Widow as Downey Jr. is with Stark. She owns the role. Newcomer Falcon is likeable from the first minute of the film, and dear lord his stunts are cool. Samuel L. returns as director Fury with one of the best scenes in the film, had me on the edge of my seat the whole time, leading into the film's definitive villain, The Winter Soldier. Sorry to keep using examples from other films, but a simple comparison: Electro holds no meaning to Spider-Man, it would not matter if he were wiped off the face of the Earth, but when the hero has a personal and emotional connection to whom he is now threatened by, it simply makes for a better story and character chemistry. The Winter Soldier is another Bad-Ass to add to Marvel's collection of them. Another decent performance from Robert Redford is in the film as well, obviously not his best acting but he was not given many opportunities. No point in going into detail about his character, it is not a deal-breaker for this movie. The only real negative thing I can say is I got lost momentarily in the middle for a bit, a couple slow but very necessary scenes. Great follow up for Cap, I cannot wait for The Fallen Son. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fun. Action-packed. Derivative of past attempts and somewhat predictable. You know this. Unlike the first Captain America, Chris Evans seems to finally accept his role as Cap. Look up his interviews where he states he rejected the role nearly a dozen times and was effectively "forced" to play Cap. It shows in the first film where he looks like a pretty boy who doesn't want to do his job. Now, he looks like a pretty who totally digs his job. Maybe the bonuses from the Avengers being the second highest grossing film of all time has given him extra motivation to actually commit to an iconic role instead of getting by on his looks. George Clooney, I'm looking at you. The film was flawlessly edited although I am getting sick of these directors with their unprofessional shaky cam. I can understand shaky cam for the action scenes because these are actors and not martial artists, poor Georges St. Pierre had to wear training wheels and go easy on Evans, but even the mall sequence of hiding in plain sight had shaky cam. Seriously, film school drop out or just pandering to hyperactive dubstep loving tweens? Either way, it gives this X-Millenial a minor headache an adversely affects my enjoyment of an otherwise highly entertaining Marvel Studios film. Winter Soldier can't act for squat and his reliant on visual effects. Last but not least, someone tell Johanssen to take voice lessons. It's bad enough she's slow as molasses in her fight scenes, she requires the most amount of shaky cam and quick cuts to hide her lack of athleticism similar to Uma Thurman in Kill Bill, but her voice is so throaty it sounds like she's strangling herself every time she speaks. Take.A.Darn.Voice.Lesson. Learn to speak from your diaphgragm and not your trachea. Learn to give a speech in case you actually win an award. Lastly, the elevator scene was my favorite part. Evans truly shows his commitment when he asks if anybody wants to leave while surrounded by goons. I can't wait for Captain America 3. Expand

WW2 always works. but this movie was flat. i can't tell the difference between this and gi joe or transformers. they all play the same. it needs more dialogue and foundation. When the action starts I don't care about the characters and when it finishes I still don"t care. sure you root for the good guys but there is no mythos. nazis have a similar mythos to the evil empire in star wars. a polarizing force which separates good and bad. this movie falls short. i'll keep watching but just not as enjoyable as ironman. capt is played so one dimensional. In terms of the political commentary, Captain America's sequel soars above most other superhero movies. It uses its position as a popular movie to try and bring up things that it feels could occur in our world if we continue down the path we are going down. However, it then returns to stereotypical superhero nonsense and, generally, feels like a run-of-the-mill summer superhero movie. Sure, it is one, and is a good one at that, but that does not mean it could not step up in "class" a bit. On top of that, I felt the story was too much. The whole world is being threatened and all that it is being defended by is Captain America, The Black Widow, and Anthony Mackie? Really? Did Iron Man, Hulk, and Thor, call in sick that day or...? The plot was very interesting and really makes this movie what it is, but it felt more appropriate for the second Avengers movie, rather than the sequel for Captain America.

In terms of acting, everyone did very well. Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, and Samuel L. Jackson, really led the way with that. Also, the character development was great and unexpected for this movie. The amount of development they did here, coupled with the ending and post credits scene, really set up the upcoming third film nicely.

Chris Evans was great as Captain America, Scarlett Johansson owned the role of Black Widow and their relationship was great. i loved seeing how they have a conversation while kicking some serious ass, that was awesome! the action was amazing, it was awesome and intense and it felt so real! the pacing was great, the cinematography was great, the script was well-written and this movie was just so much fun to watch. i'm telling ya right now: whether you're a Marvel fan, a comic book fan or a action movie fan in general, then you're gonna love this movie. "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" was a fantastic sequel to "Captain American: The First Avenger" and honestly, i can't wait for the third one.

Chris Evans is also as awesome as ever as the Captain, really bringing the character to new depths that have never been seen before from the character. One of the coolest things about the film is the Captain's adjustment to life in the post-Avengers modern world. His morals as a man of WWII honor and dignity definitely contrast from the outlook on war and politics to that of a character from the present such as Nick Fury which is something I really thought was needed for the movie. Another standout performance was from Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, for which she portrays very well just like she's done since Iron Man 2. Captain America: The Winter Solider is a great piece to the Marvel Cinematic and to the Captain America standalone films as well and it really makes me excited for what's to come for The Avengers: Age of Ultron. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Captain America is overall a cool superhero. His powers of super strength are just epic. So that is why I felt the first film was kind of boring. I mean we had a guy who he hated and was a Nazi and so he can easily kill him if he wanted to. While that proved to be difficult and he may have not killed him he still sure showed him who's boss. However, in this film the Cap must face his best friend Bucky aka The Winter Solider. This is hard for him and we see that in the end when he says he will not fight Bucky. So we get to see an emotional side of the film. Then of course the action and special effects are great and Scarlet Johannson is very good as Black Widow. In the end this movie is amazing filled with great acting and of course the emotional side of the film concerning Bucky and all the sadness that fills Cap when he sees Buck die in the first film and then finds out he is still alive but is bad. It starts off really strong with a very cool action sequence aboard a ship at sea, but just when I think it's going to be one of the better Marvel films, it becomes almost a version some updated political spy thriller from the 1970s. Like the Osterman Weekend, if you will, with superheroes. Not that I am against a film having a story. But the story in this film kind of defies logic. I have read reviews about how great the character of the Winter Solider is, and how he is the best Marvel villain since Loki. I call bullsh#t on that, as the best Marvel villains, imho, are Loki at the top, followed by Doc Ock from Spider-Man 2 and Magneto from X-Men: First Class. Hell, I would go as far as saying even Sebastian Shaw from First Class was a better villain than Winter Soldier. Here is simply akin to the Terminator, showing up when he is called for and then laying waste to all around him. It doesn't require much acting for that, just a strong physical presence, which he does deliver. But no more than Kurst The Undying in Thor: Dark World, a much superior film to this. It had enough going for it that I didn't totally hate it, but at the same time, I expected a lot more from it. I don't blame the actors, as they are all good with the roles they play. I blame a mediocre script with some plot holes I just found difficult to believe. And I am usually way more forgiving than this.

But, hey, that's just my opinion. And clearly I am in the minority here ^^!

The writing of this film finds a perfect balance between paying homage to the characters' history and adapting to a modern day setting and audience. The action sequences are immensely entertaining since we get to see Cap and Widow show off their abilities without being eclipsed by massive green death on legs or a lightning summoning flying Viking. Falcon is also a welcome addition who I would like to see in the next Avengers.
Performance wise I can't fault it either. There's not a lot to say here since we've seen most of the cast in the previous films so we know they can handle their roles already so the only one that needs to be called to is Anthony Mackie who holds his own very well in amongst cast members who have had time to hone their roles.
One of the things that raises it above Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 is that it is the first post-Avengers film to actually acknowledge the other Avengers (I'm not counting that tiny 20 second after thought at the end of Iron Man 3 with Mark Ruffalo in it). With Black Widow sharing the screen with Captain America, Tony Stark and Bruce Banner both get honourable mentions just so we know they still actually exist. Although if they were going to talk about the other Avengers you'd think they might mention the massive battle for the universe that Thor was in but it's a start at least.
So ayway, this is one of the strongest MCU films and a solid continuation of the Avengers story arc.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A great film for all, especially a comic book fan like me. Essentially a spy thriller with a superhero, CAWS has a great plot, excellent action, and is a great time.

Every actor portrayed in the movie is great at what they do. Falcon is convincing as a soldier and seems like a cool friend to have, Chris Evans IS Steve Rogers, and Samuel L. Jackson is perfect as himself. The humor in the film is well placed and seems natural. Unlike Iron Man 3 where it seemed overly used and stale over time, Captain America retains its serious nature while still being fun. There weren't any moments where Cap seemed like he was weak for the sake of the plot, the whole movie he never slows down. Falcon is great with his wings, and Black Widow is great as well, but seems a little more like she's just along for the ride.

The Plot: (spoilers ahead)
What I like about the plot is that it's unique. Even if you've read the comics, you'll be thrown into a few twists and surprises. To be honest, the "big reveal" that Bucky was the winter soldier wasn't the greatest twist for me. In fact, the most awesome moment I saw was when Cap visits an underground base and Dr. Zola reappears as a supercomputer, as you never expect it in the film. Going back on the Winter Soldier, he really convinced me that he was awesome. He fights well with a knife and never slows down. Finally, CAWS is definitely superior to its original, and is something you can't miss.

Positives:
+Characters are believable
+Funny
+Stellar action
+Full of fan service
+Twists
+Good pacing

Negatives:
-Use of the word chopper when no soldier uses it since the 90's
-Escaping chases via digging a hole more than once (cop out)

There's a lot of moments in that movie including the ending with all the suits that I thought were just stupid and all those moments with the cliche ''US president being kidnapped'', is so over used. With The Winter Soldier it is an edge of your seat Thriller with some spectacular action sequences including Nick Fury's car chase which is a change of pace for him as he is usually stuck behind his desk but really shows his true self in this one. This is the Marvel movie that isn't full of the usual cheesy moments and only has humour at the right moments and isn't over used.
The Winter Soldier is a proper bad ass who really stands up against Captain America but the big reveal of his identity was already known for months so that moment was that great but Rogers' reaction is still pretty interesting. Scarlett Johansson is flawless in this movie and is taken way more seriously this time and shows every one that she should get her own movie and I really hope she does because of this
one. It may even happen after The Avengers Age of Ultron if we're lucky. There just isn't a dull moment and I can't wait for Age of Ultron when we will see the full effect of Winter Soldier's Story. We have already
seen the effects of Winter Soldier in Agents of SHIELD so it should be interesting to see what happens next. We will just have to wait and see

I never saw the first Capt America, but I did see the avengers and to be honest didnt like him there. However in this film I found him enjoyable. The film its self is enjoyable and just pure fun! the best of phase 2 for sure.
