"Blades of Glory" is a suprisingly well crafted comedy full of fun and joy. It limits its use of sex jokes as well as using Will Ferell's performance wisely. A enjoyable movie :)!!!

Quite possibly one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Only slightly better than Nacho Libre, which isn't saying much. How does Will Ferrell go from making good movies like "Stranger Than Fiction" to such crap?

This is really a funny movie and even though (like all Will Ferrell movies) it kinda gets a little tedious in the 2nd half as more plot and less jokes are introduced...it easily makes up for it. Viewing this film was a field trip back to the locker room in high school. Still, Will Ferrell can create humor out of the worst screen plays, though the laughs are scattered. The movie does have some socially redeeming value: men are still terrified of the feminine facets of our constitution. Call us anything, but never call us "sissy." We always laughed at the "sissy" in school. Why else would this movie be funny to so many? Why was it at times funny to me? So, I find myself not dealing so much with the movie, but with myself for laughing at scenarios that caused so many in my past pain. Expand

By making Jimmy MacElroy (Jon Heder) virginal instead of gay, "Blades of Glory" saved itself from being mean-spirited and tasteless; after all, anything that incorporates fashion is inherently gay. To put it more succinctly, and I'm By making Jimmy MacElroy (Jon Heder) virginal instead of gay, "Blades of Glory" saved itself from being mean-spirited and tasteless; after all, anything that incorporates fashion is inherently gay. To put it more succinctly, and I'm quoting (paraphrasing), "...it's gay enough," (an on-camera reaction to the pairing of Chazz Michael Michaels and Jimmy). Inspired, perhaps, by an old SNL sketch featuring Christopher Guest and Martin Short as same-sex synchronized swimmers, this decidedly feminine sport gets the send-up it deserves. Look at Chazz: classic overcompensation; no horndog lothario chooses figure skating as his occupation. The truth comes out, I think, in the final scene. "Blades of Glory" has a subtext and it's also laugh-out-loud funny. This is Will Ferrell's best movie since Jon Favreau's "Elf". His ad-libs are all beauts; no duds like, "Help me, Oprah Winfrey! Help me, Tom Cruise!" His reputation as an alleged comic genius is temporarily restored ("Kicking and Screaming" was his nadir). "Blades of Glory" isn't exactly a model of sophistication; this comedy is decidedly and unabashedly low-brow, however, it's limited use of gross-out humor and overall good-naturedness, sets the movie apart from the theater of comic cruelty, or the theater of comic lewdness (pick one), which both personify most comedies aimed at a mainstream audience. From reading some of the other user There were many moments in this film that I thought were very funny. But it doesn't hold up as a solid film. It will definitely entertain you. You also don't have to worry about thinking at all. From reading some of the other user comments, I get the impression that fans of Will Farrell are split between those who like the simple low brow humor and those who like something a little more intellectual and unique. Not to say that there's anything wrong with being a fan of either. But this one is more of the former, and so fans of Anchorman will probably find it lacking, as I do. So if you're like me, you'll probably want to wait until this one comes out on video or is being aired endlessly on cable television. Will Ferrell does fine with a funny, but still uninteresting character. John Heder does the bare minimum, as we all know he only has one character in him (you can hear Napoleon come out a couple of times when his character becomes frustrated). Arnett and Poehler are fantastic, and as others have said, it's too bad we couldn't have seen more of them. For fans of Jenna Fischer, you do get to see quite a bit more of her than you do on The Office (skimpy lingerie, anyone?)...which for some, may make it worth going to see. I also enjoyed the under-utilized character of the stalker, played by Nick Swardson. My favorite line of his in the whole movie: "And remember, I'm still gonna kill you someday." And Will Ferrell throwing up while wearing the giant head of a wizard costume for a children's ice show is one of the more memorable moments of the film. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I enjoyed this movie, although I did feel that it was perhaps a bit too predictable near the end and perhaps they could have thrown in a bit more in the way of twists towards the end. However, this film is really more about some cheap laughs and an hour and a halfs fun, light hearted entertainment, which you get quite alot out of, I feel, so its not something to watch for a particularly original storyline really.

The interaction between the two main characters was quite amusing, at times the things they said were pretty funny. Both John Heder and Will Ferrell did well in their roles, Will portraying the sex fiend Chazz and John the lighter than light and wispy blonde haired Jimmy in somewhat of a wacky but amusing way. Yes you do get to see them perform on the ice (so to speak) and there is some pretty good footage of that. I haven't looked into whether the actors themselves did all of the moves, I'd guess the more complicated ones would have required a stunt double or professional of sorts, there's a very complicated and scary looking move they perform towards the end and that looked pretty neat in the film... although the movie isn't entirely filled with moves, there are some and they are pretty cool.

This is a good movie to see to get a good laugh from and enjoy the wackiness, if you like rather over the top, wacky comedies with characters that over emphasise their characteristics or personalities I suppose, then you should really enjoy this. I guess it proves I like all kinds of movies, from serious dramas and action movies to thrillers and black comedies to Zoolander, Dodgeball and this... and if anyones interested it seems the link between the 3 movies is Ben Stiller. As you might have noticed in the credits listed above, Ben is credited as being a producer of this movie too.

I enjoyed this movie as a light hearted and zany/wacky comedy and thats what to expect if your going to see it. As long as you don't think too much or over analyse the story or expect it to be anything serious then you should enjoy this. If your not fond of Ferrells other similar comedies (Old School, Anchorman, Elf etc.), then you won't be keen on this either.
