The visual effects aren't awful, but it's strange to think that a film with a budget of $250 million dollars is not capable of delivering a great visual result. Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams and Ben Affleck do what they can with their charisma to make up for the thankless script. Jesse Eisenberg unfortunately seems to deliver the worst performance of his career, with an exaggerated interpretation of Lex Luthor - something even surprising considering that the actor usually stands out for his restrained style and few gestures. Even the score by Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL seems uninspired.… Expand

The Movie is an outright mess they tried to do too much at once and it forces some of the greatest comic book stories DC has into this amalgamation that just doesn't work in any way because someone decided to try and speed ahead the plot ofThe Movie is an outright mess they tried to do too much at once and it forces some of the greatest comic book stories DC has into this amalgamation that just doesn't work in any way because someone decided to try and speed ahead the plot of the universe to try and catch up to Marvel and the MCU

here is what this movie tries to do in a 2 hours and 31 minute long movie there is of course The Dark Knight returns but there is also The Death of Superman and its trying to do both of these Stories while introducing Wonder Woman, Batman, and Lex Luthor as characters in the DCEU while setting up the Justice League Movie but also doing dream sequences setting up what I think was an Injustice Movie and again it tries to do all this in the span of 2 hours and 31 minutes that is about the same length as Man of Steel which was 2 hours and 23 minutes and Lex Luthor was a huge miscast as well feeling more like the Joker both appearance and personality wise then Lex Luthor

overall this movie is a just a Huge Mess that just doesn't work because they tried to force so much into a single movie… Expand

This review comes from the person who never watch the theatrical version of the movie, and watch the Ultimate Edition instead, even with that i think Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice was a very big, huge, and wide complete film, it is one of the most darkest Superhero movie i've seen, not even The Dark Knight trilogy, but the difference between those two are that The Dark Knight trilogy while it still has it humor, the rest of the film was still execute way better than this, BVS was still very flawed, mostly from the runtime that are felt, Jesse Eisenberg horrible performance, and too long sequences, i'm pretty sure with the extended version, the consistency and the situation of the story was better even without watching the theatrical version, the in depth between two main characters was superb, the performance by all the cast especially Henry Cavill and Amy Adams performance that are way better than Man Of Steel, didn't have a problem with them, and of course Ben Affleck as both Batman and Bruce Wayne was great, and god i wish Lex Luthor played by another actor, it's too bad, the action sequence was good enough, overall BVS still not as amazing as what Marvel have been coming out at that time even The Ultimate Edition, it still a pretty good movie, and it's still an achievement of Superhero comics to get this movie happening just like The Avengers, flawed but respectful.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let's set Martha's iconic scene aside for a second, though a note needs to be made nonetheless. Snyder's intention wasn't for Batman to spare Superman because of a coincidence about their mothers' names, but he spares him because for the first time he goes beyond the alien, he sees the Clark Kent as a person. Without this nice little speech, however, the scene is still largely illogical. There were like seven moments before that scene where Batman and Superman, instead of playing who had the biggest cock, could just confront each other and talk. 10 for the idea, 5 for the realization. The rest of the film is a mess. DC tried to keep up with Marvel by literally throwing everything into this film, shooting a sequence of scenes that the public, especially the general public, cannot understand! And also by entering a number of heroes, many of them with a time counted with a dropper on the screen, without there being a real underlying meaning behind this wicked idea. To make cinematic universes takes time and, above all, if you pillory a 2 and a half hour film, make sure it has a few moments of levity, because it's damned too heavy and it reaches the end that you're literally desperate. Not so much for what happens, because what happens happens a little by chance, a little for the needs of the plot. How much because you are mentally tested.… Expand

It's one of the few movies I've ever been bored with. When it comes to his subject, Batman, who thinks he is the provider of justice on earth, sticks his nose in Metropolis and Superman is the setting for it. Over time, they hate each other more and more. Then they trump cards in a fight cage organized by business Lex Luthor. Do not think that one of the two will stay. Totally false. It's not versus, or it could be Lex Luthor vs Superman, Batman, Diana.

There is no sex or nudity in the movie. If you have that much patience, it can be watched as a family. But I think it's a complete disappointment.… Expand

The story of the movie felt was not that bad, batman and superman both felt threatened against one another made a lot of sense, and the lex Luthor arc could have been better made tbh. THe one MAJOR issue the movie had was - pacing. The movie was prolonged. For the 2/3rds of the film, it was just dull, it took a lot of time for something interesting to happen. Tbh the story could have been a build-up from multiple movies instead of just a new film. The fight between B and S was short but good however the final fight scene was amazing and so was the cinematography I have to give that to the team it was just amazingly made. But other then than those 2 it was just a boring film. Lot of potentials was just wasted...… Expand

Comapre to The Theatrical version This is Literally a Masterpiece!
The Technical aspects the zack's style and theme specially the batman's dark and slowmotioned scenes of past they were epic. The music was Art the epicness and calmness was amazing to hear, The story was considerebly better and the missing parts from the original cut clearly covers alot things to make this movie Amazing, The 1st half's buildup and politics and the 2nd half's fights it was awesome, The original cut lacks the buildup of certain scenes this version makes some moments fleshedout amazingly with that, the Use of Lex Luthor in this cut is brilliant compare to the original where he felt like a side character,In this Version his motivations and toying with both superman and batman was amazing and the acting was meancingly awesome, the hate game between both superman and batman and lex luthor firing the shots at them and overall Politics stuff from start until the court room scene was awesome and the blast felt impact in this cut. The justice league build up in 2nd half and the jail sequence of Lex with Bat it was literally Class The music with the painting of devil it was literally awesome. The ending was usual to original cut but the Overall feeling of the Movie is Changed alot it felt Epic and Awesome.… Expand

Just re watched the ultimate cut of this film and enjoyed it. Who ever thought it would be okay to cut out 30 minutes of the film for theatrical showings should be fired.

Zack Snyder's beautiful visual story telling is on full display,Just re watched the ultimate cut of this film and enjoyed it. Who ever thought it would be okay to cut out 30 minutes of the film for theatrical showings should be fired.

Zack Snyder's beautiful visual story telling is on full display, deriving from a realistic and gritty perspective, on how the world would view these heroes. My favorite moments from this film are;

1) Opening sequence of the Wayne's dying 2) Fall of Metropolis from Bruce Wayne's perspective 3) Gods among us scene

4) Lex Luthor helicopter scene with Superman

5) Bruce & Diana's first interaction with each other

6) The warehouse scene is the greatest Batman fight sequence to grace cinema

7) First interaction between Clark & Bruce at Lex's party 8) Wonder Woman saving Batman

My criticisms for this film are;

1) This film was over stuffed, clearly looking to set up multiple DC films, instead of staying true to its self

2) They should have split the film in 2 parts, for e.g. Batman & Superman Part One & Two

3) In regards to the scene where Superman & Batman meet for the first time on the batmobile, I would have liked to seen more back and forth dialogue showcasing their conflicting ideologies

4) I would have liked to seen a different resolution between the heroes, the Martha scene didn't cut it for me.… Expand

The part where Batman has to use his vacuum cleaner to suck Superman into Mickey Mouse's clubhouse is an amazing scene with pretty cool CGI. It was very sad to see Captain America drifting into mickey mouse's train named thomas and Superman blowing up the titanic in avengers shwarma scene. The film is a super-production, an expensive and visually flashy blockbuster with a luxury cast and directed by Zack Snyder, but it doesn't always work well, as we'll see.

The film has many points of value, but the script is surely one of the most serious problems of this production. I appreciated the effort to try to relate to the previous film, but everything else fails badly: in the eagerness to try to justify its two and a half hours, this film gets as complicated as possible, with several subplots that do not receive attention, a barrage of characters and a far-fetched main plot, where a young and troubled Lex Luthor tries to turn Batman and Superman against each other. In fact, I got the idea that the film could be reduced to an hour and a half in length without any harm.

The film has a luxury cast, led by two big names: Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck. The execution of both is, however, highly dissonant: on the one hand, Affleck gives us one of the most complete and interesting works of his recent career, with great commitment from the actor and excellent results... on the other hand, Cavill seems to be out of the character, or making a titanic effort to fit in with her, which seems surreal considering how competent and dextrous he seemed to me in the preceding film. Jeremy Irons, who needs no introduction and has more than a handful of proofs in this art, has proven to be impeccable as Alfred, and Jesse Eisenberg steals our attention whenever he appears, in the shoes of an especially manic and psychopathic Lex Luthor. Less exciting is the participation of Amy Adams, who did everything she could, but was put in a corner by a script that doesn't really know how to take advantage of her. We could almost say the same for Gal Gadot, were it not for his stunning appearance closer to the end in the role of Wonder Woman. Laurence Fishburne is good, but I felt there was nothing here that he hadn't already shown in the previous movie.

Technically, the film is a visual spectacle based on an intelligent and deft use of all the CGI and visual effects resources available to Snyder. The cinematography is very good and the filming and camera work works very well. The film has a series of action scenes, with particular emphasis on the entire final sequence, which lasts about half an hour and is a real effects show that will delight lovers of this type of resource. The film also has good costumes and an excellent soundtrack, which is signed by Hans Zimmer.… Expand

This is a pretty dark film, in terms of tone and themes - also lighting wise at times. Think along the lines of the tone and atmosphere of the Dark Knight films, with a touch of Man of Steel from the Superman side of things.

There are some pretty impressive special effects used - visually I thought it was quite good. It certainly paints a picture of troubled times as far as western society is concerned. I thought it was quite tense and certainly entertaining.

Performance wise, the main performance that stood out to me was that of Jesse Eisenberg, who plays Lex Luthor. I thought he did well playing the somewhat quirky, awkward teen who certainly has an amount of powers and resource to hand. However, I did also feel that Ben Affleck gave a decent performance as Batman too.

I can't comment too much on how the film works in terms of it being at all based on the original characters, as written in the original comic strips/books, novels etc. but I certainly found it a tense and engrossing watch and so I'd recommend it on that basis. Perhaps one or two plot elements were a little predictable but overall its still a decent enough watch, although it isn't a film I'd specifically recommend to pre-teens, due to the violence/dark themes etc.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Seriously underrated movie. Zack Snyder delivers a film that is both ambitious and emotional. Yes, although it's 2 and half hours long it still feels rushed, this just had too many boxes to check, it had to be a sequel for Man of Steel, introduce a new Batman and the first ever Wonder Woman on film, all that while foreshadowing the Justice League flick.

All that aside, the construction of the conflict in the title is really well done, Batman's reasons are pretty reasonable, but that's not all, he feels emasculated, old, weak, he's trying to prove himself too, when fighting the world's strongest creature.
The reaction of the world to Superman is also great, in such divisive times even Superman is divisive. He can't be that beacon of peace and justice he was, because this is not the world for that beacon, not yet.

Finally, the death of Superman. That was a really bold move and beautifully executed, that was the only way Superman could become the symbol of hope he aimed to be, while alive he would always be the alien, the overpowered god. Dead he can be a symbol.
So yes, the movie has flaws, some of them because the studio chopped this film to death, some of them because Snyder wanted to make three films in one, but the overall result is a great movie with interesting personal and ideological conflicts. While Henry Cavil is not a really good actor he manages to bring his naive and confuse Superman to life and Ben Affleck does a great job with this enraged Batman. Supporting cast, though, has great moments, specially from Jesse Eisenberg's mad Luthor and Jeremy Irons' Alfred.

A movie to be praised for shattering too many expectations in a genre that got too predictable after the MCU.… Expand

Я конечно понимаю то что у всех мнения разные, но я не думал то что большинство людей так люто ненавидят это фильм, он просто ШИКАРЕН!!! Я наверное 1 из 10% людей на земле у кого этот фильм пока что до просмотра аквамена, Шазама, хищных птиц и отрряда самоубийц Джеймса Ганна САМЫЙ ЛУЧШИЙ ФИЛЬМ КИНОВСЕЛЕННОЙ DC!!! Может я преоиеенил фильм, но он мне реально настолько вкатил! Сюжет, персонажи (чего только Лекс Лютор стоит с Дианой) многие жалуются то что персонажи тупые потому что тупо сражаются и враждуют между собой без особой мотивации, зачем Лексу нужна битва титанов, почему после битвы с Кларком Брюс внезапно хочет ему помочь, это же ТУПО! Не не не не не, вы кажется невнимательно смотрели фильм. 1. Мотивация, ну вот сами представЬте, какой пришелец в борьбе с другим пришельцем не замечает людей и прохожих разрушает здания, лешает родственников у семьи, да и ещё здание с работой Брюса Разрушил, да ничаяно, но Брюс же об этом не знал, да и сам он не особо доверял супермену, а Кларк против его потому что считает то что пытать людей, колечить их и СПЕЦИАЛЬНО убивать ПРЕСТУПНИКОВ! Вот и вражда у них такая! 2. Лекс психопат, который любит навести суету, + он к обоим персонажам относится плохо, к Кларку по той же причине что и Брюс, к Брюсу за то что он он против его. 3. Брюс настолько отбил голову Кларку что тот перестал здраво соображать, и просто выкрикнул ему из под копья "спаси Марту" (его маму которую похитил Лекс), так же звали маму Брюса, которую он не смог спасти, для него эти слова бросаются в душу, он осознаёт то что Кларк не такой плохой человек и они идут в атаку! A Cinecomic with the big C, amazing score, amazing Batman (with the best fight ever seen on screen in the hero's history), amazing dialogues, Luthor yes is a bit different from the character but It's not a problem cause the acting is so freakin good.
Doomsday's fight stunning and WW theme...that's a serious and glorius cinecomic, without stupid gags for children.

This I don't think even MCU had successfully found the balance.
Having this depth of a plot while telling the comic's story is not an easy task.

BvS is flawed, but I think it is a great try for making comic characters feel ALIVE, REAL, RELATABLE.
Watching Man of Steel and BvS together will makes you feel like these are the superhero movies we should have been getting all these time.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Batman v superman is bad, both as an independent movie and an adaptation of the DC characters' stories. As most Zack Snyder movies are it is visually incredible, with great score and amazing costume design.

Storywise it is boring, overstuffed and undercooked all at the same time, it yet again misunderstands the appeal of Superman and makes him overly dark. It presents an older batman who's been through all the stories we've come to expect from batman, yet still feels the need to show us the death of his parents yet again. It mixes too many comic book stories into a much worse adaptation, and it expects us to take superman's death seriously after 2 movies into the cinematic universe.
Its a smart dumb movie, a movie that thinks it's smarter than it actually is, but that treats it's viewers like children that need to be handled through the whole experience.

It does however have one of the most entertaining villains in recent memory, he is very smart and feels like he's constantly 5 steps ahead of our protagonist leaving only slight clues and nods, unfortunately it's Lex Luther not the Riddler

It was not like other sunshine and rainbow superhero movies that applies the same formula again and again, I saw the SUPERMAN the Ultimate being struggle THE BATMAN The Justice making bad judgements but that was made because it hold a character development and the way the movie goes if you pay attention you do understand that this Superman is not at his peak he's just a newbie and Batman has changed during this time he's old and is dealing with lot of issues not the Perfect Duo that we've always been seeing all the time. This is an art, an experiment that was perfectly executed by the artist Zack Snyder and his team, the way Ben Affleck plays the role of Bruce Wayne is just pure perfection fights crime at night and a cocky billionaire in the public, and the struggle that Clark was going though no one can portray that better than Henry Cavill he's still trying to fit into this world which has mixed thoughts about him and most of them hates him as they think he causes destruction and doesn't care about human lives he's being treated like an outsider, I can go on with the thongs like how his death changed Bruce's thinking and how the world understood that He was more of a human than they could ever be and a lot of things but this is an Art like I said you'll have to watch it and it's worth the time. Zack Snyder's DC Movies are not like your everyday comic movies it's different and it's logical because it does show the reality.… Expand

The political thriller like script by Chriss Terrio is captivating, the tension is felt throughout the movie, amplified by the incredible score by Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL. Thanks to costume designer Michael Wilkinson, Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman have never looked better, and the latter has the best superhero introduction of all time. Not the easiest movie to digest, but I recommend for everyone to check it out and make up his/her mind about it. Snyder most certainly dares to be different and on the long run history will reward him for it.… Expand

I didn't really like this film when I saw the theatrical cut on Prime for the first time. I was hoping to see Superman and Batman fight each other for 2 hours. I didn't need them to have a reason to fight. I just wanted them to fight over theI didn't really like this film when I saw the theatrical cut on Prime for the first time. I was hoping to see Superman and Batman fight each other for 2 hours. I didn't need them to have a reason to fight. I just wanted them to fight over the most trivial reason. After all, I am watching the film for that very reason. Then why aren't they doing it? And on top of it the quality of the movie was also terrible. The audio was too low to be understood without subtitles, the video was too dark, there was too much talking, no Snyder-ish thing was happening most of the time, even their fight didn’t seem like Zack Snyder’s work (the warehouse fight looked more like it). And the Doomsday fight looked forced. And in the movie titled Batman v Superman the fight between the two legends lasts for barely 10 minutes after which they just say Martha and the fight ends.

People often have a problem with this movie because Batman was killing everyone and Superman looked very gloomy. But personally I didn't mind that, since I hadn't watched any Batman movies before (this was my 2nd DC movie after Man of Steel) so I didn't know Batman has a no kill rule, and I didn't like the happy underwear-on-pants Superman (it's the very reason why I wanted Batman to beat up Superman in this movie). Henry Cavill's Superman is the reason why I started liking Superman in the first place. I also do not have any problem with Lex Luthor since I liked the way he spoke; he sounded a bit like Shah Rukh Khan. And also because I hadn't seen Lex Luthor before, so I just saw him as an original character.

But afterwards I watched the Ultimate Edition with subtitles, and this time I was paying more attention to the other characters instead of waiting for the two heroes to beat out each other the way I thought they would do. I think this is something common in all the Zack Snyder movies - you can only appreciate them if you already know the story. Because then you pay more attention to the visual appeal and how cool everyone and everything is looking. Their dialogues now made more sense, since I could read the subtitles instead of struggling with the volume. I was patiently looking at each and every scene. All the pieces that didn't connect in the theatrical version, most of them did in the Ultimate Edition.

In my opinion the theatrical version should have never existed. I mean this movie is based on two of the world's most powerful superheroes. Why wouldn't people want to see it no matter how long it runs for? And since it made more sense, more people would have seen it, because of which it would have earned more.… Expand

I've never seen a movie so misunderstood and obliterated by critics like this one. Some great things are controversial, I guess.

I don't apologize for loving this film. I love every second of it, specially the director's cut ("Special Edition"). I love every decision the screen writer and director made.
If Man of Steel (2013) is the ultimate immigrant story, BvS is a story about fearing the immigrant, about post 9/11 xenophobia, about intolerance and trauma. About how the media can shape our opinions, and how hatred, even when it feels justified, can turn the best of us into monsters.
Best superhero movie ever made, hands down, and my favorite depictions of the DC characters (Batfleck!!!).
It may need several watches to 'get it', but this film is absolutely brilliant, and keeps revealing layer after layer of meaning even years after it's release.… Expand

It's a mediocre movie with a terrible resolution to the 2 characters. If there is one thing that is good about it, it is that it is a faithful comic book recreation according to my friend.

Phenomenal piece of art, misunderstood for being ambitious and too big for little minds, ahead of its time. Piece of advice, go watch the Ultimate Edition and make your own mind, its like a fine wine tastes better with time.

Firstly, Ben Affleck is still an excellent Batman. I find him incredibly charming as Bruce Wayne while also portraying the jaded and the rage-filled Batman perfectly. Gal Gadot is introduced as Wonder Woman in this movie and is honestly stillFirstly, Ben Affleck is still an excellent Batman. Gal Gadot is introduced as Wonder Woman in this movie and is honestly still one of the best parts. She is very elegant and mysterious as Diana but then an absolute badass as Wonder Woman. Jeremy Irons is snarky and wise as the beloved Alfred as well. Henry Cavill returns as Superman and Amy Adams returns as Lois Lane with both still doing a great job in their respective roles. There are some other supporting actors new and returning who all do fine jobs as well.

The cinematography by Larry Fong is really good and visually there are still some great shots. Hans Zimmer returns to score but is now collaborating with Junkie XL and it is an absolute phenomenal score. The Batman theme is amazing, the Wonder Woman theme is exciting and the Lex Luthor theme is unsettling. There is more oomph in the score thanks to Junkie XL which makes the action scene feel more thrilling. On that note, the action scenes concerning Batman are exceptional. The Metropolis destruction but from Bruce Wayne perspective is one of the most exciting intros in a superhero movie ever. It also perfectly captures the destruction from a bystander view and also illustrates exactly why Batman hates Superman. The Batmobile chase sequence is also quite a stand-out with how awesome it is. Just seeing the Batmobile destroy everything in its path is fun to watch. The Batman warehouse fight scene is the best to have ever graced the screen. It is choreographed amazingly and shot in such a way that it is easy to see what is going on while still feeling every punch. However, the same can't be said with the Batman vs Superman fight. Rewatching it again makes me see how underwhelming this fight is. The first thing to note that is only one fight between these two characters in a 3-hour movie which already sucks but the fight itself is visually boring. It's choreographed in a way that feels like it is from a slapstick comedy. Superman launches him through some walls, Batman gases him and then punches him in the face for a bit, repeat and that's the fight. Superman acts dumb in the fight and Batman just moves slowly due to the armour which leads to a really silly fight to watch. I think people tear into it a lot but the fight resolution of Martha is still quite silly. I think the idea behind it is fine with Batman realizing Superman's humanity. It's just that the scene doesn't convey this very well and put too much emphasis on the "Martha" name instead of the human aspect. It's also executed very clunkily which leads to an ironically hilarious scene when it shouldn't be. The fight against Doomsday at the end is just a big CGI-fest against some dark grey looking thing at night. It's hideous to look at with its abundant of grey and black colours with overly flashy lights that just makes it seem dull. The story has 4 perspectives with the Batman one being the best. His hatred for Superman is understandable and trying to get the Kryptonite to fight him is the most easily enjoyable parts. On the other hand, Superman's perspective is so boring and forgettable. The people treating him like a hero or a god while some detesting him is fine. It's just he is so mopey in every scene which makes every scene involving him just not fun to watch. There is also a weird part in his arc where he goes into a snow mountain and hallucinates his dad which was just so dumb. The Ultimate edition adds more Clark Kent investigation which adds more to it and shows that he dislikes the brutality of his method and the fear he causes which is more understandable. Lois Lane is also another perspective with her trying to figure out who is producing this mysterious bullet. It's a very pointless perspective and quite a waste of time considering it amounts to something that the audience already knows, Lex Luthor was the one who did it! Lex is also the last perspective with him dealing with senators who obstruct him and him building a monster just because I guess? His perspective is fine for the plot but it's not enjoyable to watch because of the actor.

Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor is one of the worst casting choices I have ever seen. While every other actor feels grounded and serious, Jesse Eisenburg feels very cartoony and over the top. It's made worst as a majority of his lines are dumb. There are some great lines from Lex but they are poorly executed because of Jesse's terrible performance. His character's motivation is understandable but his whole plan is borderline ridiculous and convoluted. The noted Knightmare sequence just happens midway through the movie without any setup or any reference later. Likewise for the future flash sequence which you think Batman would make a note of later but doesn't. There is also the famous Wonder Woman checks her email sequence that is just so unnecessary.… Expand

I Like Batman and Superman! But This Movie! was terrible! i can´t believe i saw this movie in theaters! after i saw it in theaters! it was overrated!
