It's interesting because it used to be complete opposite. Margot Robbie used to be really cool/chill actress, but she has become more and more involved in these radical feminist movies. While on the opposite end, Jennifer Lawrence used to be kind of unlikable, but recently she seems to be way more normal and chill.

I guess that's just something that happens, some actresses don't know how to appreciate success and will get more radical, while others want to change for the better. It's just sad to see Margot going downhill like this, because she used to be very promising actress. But after Barbie, i'm not really interested to watch any of her movies anymore. Barbie was insultingly bad. It will have big opening at box office, because of the false marketing campaign, but i'm confident that it will have huge drop next week.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It starts first with a narration about how before the advent of the Barbie, most Victorian girls were catered into a motherly role due to only having baby dolls to take care for and not a womanly figure that those girls could relate to with jobs once just for the man. That's where we're then shown Barbieland, and the ultimate beach bum that's Ken while Barbie lives out her perfect life where every night is a girl's night. Until she starts to have strange thoughts of death, which manifest into her becoming more like a real person rather than a plastic doll; she's told she has to visit the "Weird Barbie" where she's told that she has to find the girl playing with her to figure out her family situation better (a plot so far reminiscent of Ursula from the Little Mermaid, especially with the P1NK look from being roughhoused by a careless toddler). Ken ends up sneaking for the ride and we're just seen how 'slobby' our society is, dudes getting all zany and catcalling before one slaps her ass then they get indicted after she hits him back. After all that, she meets the daughter of who proceeds to call her a 'fascist' and mention how 'she set the feminist movement back 50 years', all the while Barbieland is being transformed into a 'Kendom' as Barbie's Dreamhouse is now 'Ken's MoJo DoJo Casa House' with every southern country depiction possible complete with horses. We only witness the unfolding of after the mother overhears the Matel executive board and finds her real life Barbie, who offers to bring her back to her perfectly matriarchal life. After an empowering speech about women's rights, they proceed to formulate a plan that involves individually telling the speech to each Barbie after they're separated by their Ken's and gaslighting them into having their hayday until acting upon their insecure egos in order to break their patriarchy apart. Overall, a movie that comes off strongly like the 2016 reboot of Ghostbusters; during which year, it was reviewed as being "stunning and brave" with the same misandry-esque storytelling (that time, replacing an all-male cast mind you). Both she and I have been utterly disappointed. The movie starts off pretty well, it's light and fun, exactly what everyone expects and wants from a Barbie movie. Then it gets heavy, boring and way too unrealistic. It felt more like a Twitter movie than anything else. There's a reason why people are moving to Threads. Nobody wants to fight about non sense all the time. Now it's a movie. Not much happens but a lot of words are said and repeated a lot. Only reason we didn't watch Oppenheimer instead was because we were afraid we wouldn't have time because of something else but now we just regret our choice. We both thought No Hard Feelings and even Elemental would've been better movies to see instead. Gerwig tried to hard and fell flat. Expand

How can I describe the horror I feel when I realize this movie took years to make, received over $200 million dollars in a budget, was given such a beloved IP to play with, and was able to attract some of the top star power in the industry, and what was produced was just a single unbridled scream of hatred towards the male gender? Chances are, if you live in a society where you can make this movie, then the people you hate do not have the real power in it, you do. This movie doesn't just hate men, it loathes them. If this movie had been made targeting any other group, a public service announcement would be spread nationwide warning of violence against that group, news companies would report ever minute of every day of aggression towards them whether real or perceived, and the president would give a statement in support.

As a man, I truly fear for my physical safety being in the proximity of anyone who loved this movie. I am terrified for the development of any son in the grips of a parent who takes to heart its message.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The barbie movie is honestly so fricking weird;
The trailer made itself look like it was going to be focused on barbie and the barbie world, and from word of mouth, I thought it would be the barbie version of the LEGO movie, but the ACTUAL movie couldn't be further from the truth; The movie wants to be about barbie and celebrate barbie, with a whole song and speal about how barbie can do anything and can be anything, but at the same time tells in detail how barbie is bad because it's made by the patrairchicals systems and she damages women's rights. The story's message feels conflcited with itself to the pint where the only good character is, ironically, ken (who is made into a "bad guy" because he finds out about patriarchy). It's so **** weird, and that's the only way I can describe it TBH

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Beer. Horses. Cowboys. Trucks. The Godfather. Sports. Boxing. Fur coats. These are what make men who they are. #Patriarchy. This movie **** sucked. I know I'm not the target audience, but it'd be nice to feel welcome ya know. The message wasn't even subtle in the slightest. They might as well have just stared directly into the camera and say "Men bad, women good". And the world itself is broken af. So literally anyone could've just come into Barbie land THAT easily? Why was Will Ferrell in this movie? He could've been replaced with anybody and it wouldn't have made a difference. Is this movie a comedy? Didn't laugh a single time. Not even a chuckle. The only reason I don't give this like half a star is cause I didn't hate the ending. But I don't get the gynecologist line at the end. Is it a **** joke to make her feel more human or did she grow genitals cause she's been in the human world so long? Either way. This movie wasn't for me in literally any way. Awful movie, I can't wait for the hype to die down and people forget it exists. Expand

It's two hours of non-stop aggressively anti-male propaganda. The film can't go more than 30 seconds without reminding you of the evils of "the patriarchy", how women are horribly oppressed, and how much better everything would be if only women were the only ones allowed to have power. It also **** on the concept of motherhood and relationships. Ken is just pathetically simping for Barbie the entire movie, and Barbie doesn't give a **** about him because she is literally a strong independent woman who don't need no man. There's even a narrator who explicitly tells you two minutes into the movie about how Barbie thinks she won the culture war for feminism, but little does she know in the real world women are horribly oppressed and victimized by men. This movie is literally a two hour radical feminist propaganda piece. Stay away at all costs. And for the love of god do not bring your kids to this - if all that garbage above wasn't enough to drive you away, Barbie is also obsessed with death the whole movie, they bring it up probably 5 or 6 times, and there are multiple not-so-subtle references to Barbie and Ken's genitals, including a scene where one of the Barbies says something along the lines of, "...but I sure wish I could see Ken's package under those shorts". If I had brought a young kid to this movie I would have walked out within the first 5 minutes. This is the worst movie I have ever seen, and it's not close. Expand

One of the worst and most controversial films in very long time. It is highest degree of third wave feminist man hating fantasy.

The way men are treated in this movie, is absolutely horrible and that's the only realistic part in this movie. Because men are treated horribly in real world as well. I have seen so many reviewers point out how this movie shows how badly women were treated and are treated right now. Yeah, i guess that's why men's suicide rate has been sky-high past 10 years. But i guess if you are rich or semi rich woman who lives in gate-protected LA neighborhoods, no wonder you don't know ANYTHING about real world.

This movie had most misleading marketing of all time. Yes, i mean it. Out of all movies ever made, this one takes the prize. They got so many young people hyped to watch fun-happy-go-lucky summer movie. Instead they got another feminist lecture and of course radical feminists in their 30s and 40s love it.

Thankfully this movie will be forgotten very soon.

The sets are well done.
Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling acting is outstanding.
The story depicts the distopia of a Feminist society.
1) In Barbieland men and women do not have genital. Women are indifferent to men. Men pander to women. Women control society. (Very Unnatural and clearly a Feminist dream).
2) In the real world men who do have genital are aggressively misogynistic.
3) Capitalism (that is freedom, liberty) is a metaphor for evil.
4) In Kendom, with men and women happy in traditional roles, the women are depicted as brainwashed.
5) Girls and women are discouraged from being mothers.
6) A real woman has a vagina, which is odd since real women for Feminists can have penises or vaginas.
The movie promotes unnatural social engineering in competition with the Soviet Union and National Socialism.
A very Postmodern Frankfurt School production.
Disgusting and dangerous.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First off, the start of the movie was very funny and nicely portrayed the Barbie world just as the trailers suggested. But as soon as they go to the real world the story suggested by the trailer falls apart. This movie is extremely political and misandrist. It portrays men as useless, dominating perverts and supports their oppression by women. The plot climax is the males (Kens) doing what the females (Barbies) have been doing to them all along, and the resolution is the males getting oppressed again. I initially thought the film was intentionally ironic with this plot because it was so far fetched, but on further thought I was grasping on to what little reference I could come up with to male specific problems. If this movie was actually balanced then deep analysis wouldn't be required to find the male support.

One scene that is truly evident of the films feminist propaganda is the arrest of Barbie and Ken when they enter the real world. Barbie hits a guy who sexually assaults her, the guy seemingly suffers no repercussions but Barbie gets arrested with all the perverted (male) cops enjoying it along the way.

The lack of any politics in the films advertising suggests it's a Trojan horse for feminist propaganda. I'm not quite that far in my thinking, I like believe it was avoiding the topic due to Disney's failure with woke films.

Overall... yay to oppression in the name of equality... I guess.

The marketing for this film is intentionally misleading because they know there are many people who will not like what this film really is. If you are a woke progressive or someone who won't take these themes the wrong way, you can enjoy this film. The cinematography is great and it's well cast.

But the plot is also divisive and can be more offensive than the recent Bud Light controversy if you don't like woke themes.

I expected the famous dolls Barbie and Ken to leave "Barbieland" and end up in the real world. There we would see comedy, where they try to adapt to the real world and see the differences between the worlds.
But that was not what we got to see. Or yes, we got to see the differences (very politically left). We were taught that in the real world men has the power, being masculine is something bad and you also heard the girl from the real world describe that "men hate women here". (In the real world)
As I understand it, the movie Barbie is aimed at children as it is PG-13 and it is about the toy Barbie that 5 year olds play with. Nevertheless, there is dirty humor and jokes with references about different people that only a 40-year-old could understand. In short, I think they miss their target audience with the humor in the film itself.
And there were various moments in the film where they did things without meaning to achieve a particular plot.
I think the positive thing about the film is how Barbieland itself looked like. Pink and happy.
Otherwise, the film is a huge disappointment for me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First and foremost, the trailer was extremely misleading. This was not the Barbie in the real-world comedy i expected when i watched it.

Movie started out good, had some funny moments. But quickly changed into a man-hating fest and showing them off as completely incompetent.

They had the chance to promote equality at the end of the movie but the Barbies just laughed in the face of the Kens and basically told them to **** off.

It's so easily seen from the beginning that if women and men rid of each other, it's 2 hours long just to get paid more. Each sentence doesn't make any sense or political reference, but the director and all cast are women except Ryan Gosling!!! Where is the logic behind those points!!! An honest score from the critic must be around 15-20 out of 100 because they made decoration and ruined your 2 hours of life.

What could go wrong? The same dialogs, characters, signs, haters, Acrivistis, political speech disguised as joke, and I could go on and on just to resume in i identity politics, the most crude feminism with men being low life stupids or worse, just for a start. If you could understand the minimum, I”ll tell you: it’ll only gets worse and worse until the end of the movie.
This movie should be rated R so kids wouldn’t be affected by this very dangerous propaganda.

The clothing really looks like gorgeous fashion for dolls. I finally did start laughing once Ken started to stumble through his own unfortunate awakening. I liked the cameos, especially Dua Lipa. I looked for Lizzo but if she's in it I missed it. I don't like to sh*t on people's hard work, so let me counter the fact of this movie with a proposition for a similar future project: make a Barbie movie that is like _Drunk History_, but narrated by sober children. You get normal kids who play with Barbies and have them tell you what their Barbies are doing. Usually it will be a string of surprises, reenactments of stories they saw elsewhere.. but some of these will be novel, coherent stories. Take those and illustrate them with the same lavish detail as in the *Barbie* movie I just watched. I think that would save everything I love about this movie and trim out everything else. Expand
