Aquaman has incredible visuals and awesome fight scenes, but lacks in some plot points. Though it's suppose to be an "Aquaman" movie, we see more of "Arthur Curry" than the gold and green hero we all know, which doesn't quite show up until like the final fight. But still the characters were interesting, the scenery gorgeous, and even the supporting villain Black Manta stole the show during his scenes. It may not be a Dark Knight classic, but still an enjoyable thrill ride through across the ocean! Expand

Probably the best superhero movie I've ever seen. So much effort went into this and it will often make your jaw drop. Don't listen to critics. Smoke a J, hit play, shut up and enjoy.

It is a standalone and unique superhero origin not seen before thanks to Wan's amazing effort for being able to fit in wide variety of his visions throughout a straightforward background story of a special boy with ability to talk to fish. It offers a spectacular undersea experience in terms of scope with stunning CGI visual effects on par with those in Avatar, impressive editing and energetic wide-angle shots of different action sequences, including beautiful scores as usual from Rupert Gregson-Williams. Character development might not be strong but the chemistry between Arthur (Jason Momoa) and gorgeous Mera (Amber Heard) is just so charming on screen, even the villains King Orm (Patrick Wilson) and Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) felt surprisingly threatening compared to other superheroes flicks in recent years. Despite long running time and usual flaws, it explores the seven seas myths in depth, fast pacing with good transition, a third act at a majestic scale that ends in a positive note that would certainly lead DCEU to a brighter tone in future. The plot was pretty standard for such films, and certainly won't blow your mind; but the cinematography and overall Character design was head and shoulders above the standard entry into various Capeman series. Every scene was visually stunning and the hero was likable while being vulnerable and impressively powerful at the same time adding some intrigue into the action scenes. Where this film really shines is that its focal point is an entirely different type of hero with an entirely new setting, and introduces a new society that has a completely foreign culture to the established norms leaving the complete package of this film feeling so fresh for this genre. Personally, I felt the attempts at comedy fell a bit flat but then again comedy was never really DC's strong point. However DC did finally improve on adding color to a film instead of it being constant grim/dark scenes. In fact I'd wager this is among the most colorful Capeman movies ever made. Though it did retain a couple Grim/dark scenes which seems to be a nod to longtime DC fanboys. I found the mix of color and Grim/dark to be near perfect in this film. All in all, I found myself entertained throughout the entire film and even intrigued in potential sequels and tie-ins for this character in future projects. This film is not a perfect 10 for two reasons. 1. Comedy was a bit lame 2. DC's pace is still too fast for me; they create really beautiful scenes and then rush through them so quickly, its a real shame sometimes. Expand

Director James Wan, known for his horror films, as well as the very successful Furious 7 has taken on the titanic challenge of bringing to life the superhero that’s been the butt of every joke possible. The question on everyone’s mind has been, “Can he take that hero that talks to fish and make him cool?”. The answer, you’re darn right he can.

Wan has created the most comic book, comic book movie ever. Everything about Aquaman is fantastical and completely out of this world which he embraces with loving arms. Instead of shying away from the weird, Wan just goes for it in a way that’s always a sight to behold. It’s Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones, Godzilla and Star Wars, all in one.

The movie rides comfortably on Jason Momoa’s shoulders. His swagger is absolutely what this movie needs, but it’s his ability to find the small moments that makes you believe. Amber Heard as Mera is awesome. Her powers look incredible and you’ll be left wanting more. Patrick Wilson and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II serve up delicious turns as villains, yet Black Manta steals the show. The rest of the cast is great, Nicole Kidman, Temuera Morrison, Willem Dafoe, Dolph Lundgren all bring just the right amount to the roles, adding the weight and gravitas needed.

The effects are excellent. The imagination on display is incredible. The movie is helped by it taking place in a world you don’t know what it should look like so what fills the screen is beautifully breathtaking in scope and scale. It’s fun, vibrant and exactly the kind of thing we love about going to the movies, being awed.

There’s more to say, but with the movie not out for another week, no spoilers, suffice to say, it’s the perfect movie for the family this holiday season! 4 1/2 out of 5 stars for the sheer, uncompromising audacity and joy of it all.

Visually is amazing, the music is uplifting, powerful and beautiful. The story is a type that we have seen before, but then again these comics were written 50 years ago, for me the movie kept it interesting all the way, there are several good humor moments, emotional moments too, the characters are well developed throughout the movie and so you get strong and believable connections between them, the acting from everyone is very good.
There are many powerful scenes, great fighting scenes and the main battle has a scale and epicness that for moments resembles the third movie of the Lord of the Rings. In all, the movie is well put together, it flows and keeps you interested. The only thing I would point out is the fact that at least 4 times the characters got interrupted by a blast, that felt a bit repetitive, but the movie does places back the DCEU at a very respectable level, since it suffered a bit from Justice League. Very good job and thank you.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wow the critic reviews are horrible! What happened!? I thought the movie was good, no? Perhaps the best DC CU movie, just as good as Wonder Woman.
Lets start from start, good introduction to character, fighting scenes were fun. Movie has many funny moments too. Next, childhood, I wish I saw more of it actually. The villain (back manata) was nice sub-villain too, not the usual comic book "i am bad and i die in the end after lengthy fight" type villain. Mother being alive was kind of foreshadowing, but I was still happy to see it be.
Underground Atlantis felt like TRON underwater, which was awesome. Cast is good! There was an underwater tornado part which was very epileptic, I dont suffer from it but even to me it was unpleasant. The big snake thing talking was kind of confusing in the beginning, the sound and surroundings did not match well, but in the end it was ok. Overall, fun and nice movie 9/10

I honestly thought I wasn't going to like him as Aquaman but I did. He had some funny lines that made me laugh and he also came across as a guy who honestly didn’t want to be king. This film has a lot of underwater scenes which means that they’re going to need great visual effects and they did. Every time you see Atlantis it makes you feel like you’re there with those characters. It kind of reminded me of Avatar with how the visuals looked. The musical score, which was composed by Rupert Gregson-Williams, helped intensify every scene. The music matched each scene perfectly. My only complaint about the music was the song “Ocean to Ocean” which is a hilariously bad version of “Africa” by Toto. I’m just thankful it only played for a few seconds in the movie. All of the action in this film is well choreographed and well shot. Every scene where people are fighting you can clearly see everything that’s happening in that scene. There was not a lot of camera angle changes and when there were they were to keep somebody in focus and to show what they were doing. James Wan directs this film and he’s mainly known for horror movies, and there are elements of that in here, but he makes it clear he can direct anything and make it great. The main villain Orm is a great villain and is well portrayed by Patrick Wilson but I wish they gave him more of a reason for hating the surface world. I wish they did his training scenes before they showed him as an adult. This way you would know how he got to be this comfortable with his powers. There is an end credit scene that gives a hint to a possible storyline for the possible sequel. In the end, Aquaman was a surprisingly good movie. Hopefully, DC continues with stuff like this because then maybe they will be able to challenge Marvel. Expand

Aquaman is the second DCU movie to hit it out of the park. Though, I concede that Wonder Woman still had the stronger story.

The whole thing looks great. The film goes full balls-to-the wall in creating the entire fictional kingdom of Atlantis and several other underwater kingdoms and locations. The whole thing has an 80's fantasy/sci-fi/adventure feel to it. A lot of work went into the details on this. The movie includes one dress and one visual sequence (you'll know it when you see it) that really catch your eye. The fight sequences, including a full-scale battle, really nail it. I also applaud the movie's effort to bring Black Manta and Ocean Master's outfits to life without majorly reworking the designs.

The script does a fair job of balancing drama and comedy. Jason Momoa remains utterly cool and charming as the lead. He and Amber Heard as Mera have good chemistry. Credit should also be given to Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master. He is a complete jerk in this, but you always understand where he is coming from and why he feels justified in what he is doing.

The movie does try to cram in a little too much. We get Aquaman's backstory, Atlantis' surprisingly in-depth backstory, all three of Aquaman's best known villains, and practically every major supporting character except Aqualad. You do tend to get thrown from one scene to the next, and I wished Mera and Aquaman had a little more time to build their relationship. Still, I do give director James Wan credit for trying to get in as much of the Aquaman mythos as possible. There is a lot of thought put into this world. The script is busy, but it isn't confusing or particularly jerky. You are given all the info. needed, and the flashbacks about Aquaman's origin are really well integrated and don't overstay their welcome.

Despite suffering from the critical failure and box office flop of Justice League one year ago, DC Extended Universe continue to move forward with the sixth instalment featuring Aquaman in his very first solo movie after making a cameo appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and officially debut in Justice League.

One year after the events of Justice League, Arthur Curry/Aquaman (Momoa) stops a group of pirates led by Jesse Kane from stealing a Russian submarine in the middle of the ocean. After fighting briefly against Jesse and his son, David Kane, he left Jesse to die for his crimes while David swears revenge on him.

In Atlantis, King Orm/Ocean Master (Wilson), the half-brother of Aquaman, is planning to declare war on the surface world for polluting the ocean. Mera (Heard) finds Arthur to convince him to stop him from starting a war. Arthur reluctantly goes with her to Atlantis and meets up with his old mentor, Nuidis Vulko.

In order to stop King Orm, Vulko tells Arthur to find King Atlan’s Trident, so that he can reclaim his rightful place as the King of Atlantis. Suddenly, they got ambush by King Orm’s men and they managed to escape except Arthur. During captivity, Arthur challenges his half-brother to a duel but he lost. Mera immediately rescue Arthur and both of them escape from Atlantis. They begin their journey to find King Atlan’s Trident while King Orm hires David Kane to kill Arthur and provides him with Atlantean armour and weapons. With that, he becomes Black Manta and pursues his vendetta.

I have good news for all DC fans. This movie is totally awesome next to Wonder Woman and better than any other instalments. It was way better than I thought. What I like about the movie are the CGIs and visual effects. The CGIs and visual effects in this movie are very well done and they are very incredibly stunning, beautiful and magnificent. The visual effects artists definitely deserved to be praised for their hard work efforts. It was so good that I feel like I’m watching a movie in an oceanarium.

The performances of the cast are amazing especially for Jason Momoa, Amber Heard and Patrick Wilson. They were really awesome in their role and they totally nailed it. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Nicole Kidman have done a great job too. Once again, James Wan has done it again with his direction and successfully redeem the franchise. I only hope that this trend will continue in future instalments.

The story is good and it was really fun which I enjoyed a lot. For better experience, you can try watching the movie in IMAX. Not much of a downfall in this movie but I felt that David Kane/Black Manta was underused in this movie. Hopefully, he will play a big role in the sequel or in the other future instalments. I am looking forward to the next instalment in the franchise. There are no post-credits scene but do stay back for a mid-credits scene and after that, you may leave.

Aquaman is directed by James Wan, his very first superhero movie, screenplay by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Will Beall, and starring Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson and Nicole Kidman.
Story by Geoff Johns, James Wan and will Beall... The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime--one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be a king.

This review will be spoiler-free, because I don't want to ruin this movie to you, guys...
I really don't know where to start, guys... Let's start with the direction.. James Wan's first superhero movie as its director is Aquaman, so I was concerned to see him failing, because we're used to see him mostly in horror movie like The Conjuring Universe, Saw and Insidious.. so yeah I didn't expect him to make a great job with the direction, in fact I was blown away of his amazing job with this movie, especially with the action scenes, he made every single scene epic, and breathtaking, thanks also goes to the crew of the CGI which I'm gonna talk about later on. James Wan did some mistakes with the direction as I predicted when I first heard that he will direct this movie, he actually tried to make some jump-scares in this movie, for no reason I don't get why.. let me tell you how... Most of the NORMAL scenes, when people are talking or doing anything but fighting, especially when they are in a house or somewhere closed, they always ended with someone exploding the wall or anything unexpectedly just like horror movies, and that's what I was afraid of! That's my only issue with the direction.

Let's move to the flawless CGI!!!! Every scene of the underwater world was was well made, by the CGI and the direction as I said above, it's amazing.. I can't find any proper word to say about it.. it was fascinating, i was super-entertained by how well done the CGI of this movie is!! They weren't afraid of making that much of Atlantis, like Godzilla did, I don't want to compare movies, but Godzilla was too afraid to make that much of scenes of him, but Aquaman took that risk and they nailed it!

Also the performances were very talented by everyone, Jason Momoa is amazing as Aquaman as he was in Justice League, and maybe more! Amber Heard is badass as Mera... Patrick Wilson is an amazing villain and I loved him as King Orm and I can't wait to see him again in other DC movies!

Let's move to my biggest flaw of this movie, and it's a random choice.. I don't know but this might have some spoiler for you... There's a scene when Aquaman and Mera were fighting CREATURES in a boat, and in this scene Arthur AKA Aquaman said a very random line, that these creatures are from the bottom of the sea so they fear the light, so he opens a random box to find a LIGHT SOURCE and he scares the creatures with it... This scene was so random, the line of Aquaman can be forgiven, but the random choice can't be!
I tried to make it spoiler-free as I could and I highlighted some keywords, which who watched the movie will understand what I'm talking about.

So for those who want to know if Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse is better than Aquaman or not, my opinion is yeah, it's better than Aquaman, but it also depends on what you want to see, if you wanna see an epic, old fashioned way superhero movie, so Aquaman is your movie, but if you wanna see a surprising and with a very powerful story, so Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse is your movie. Anyways I really loved Aquaman and I'm gonna give it an A!

Alright, guys, and thanks for reading my review, and if you liked it, you can click on my name up above to see all of my reviews. Look forward for my up coming reviews...

This movie was good, easily the best since the Dark Knight Rises, James Wan and Jason Mamoa saved the DCEU. Critics called this movie out for cliche, but never mentioned it once when talking about Black Panther. Black Panther ended with a 97%, and Aquaman a 64%. This movie had much better special effects and cgi compared to Black Panther, but Panther never got criticized for the bad cgi. Also the action in Aquaman was much better than Black Panther, but never got praise. Black Panther was literally the Lion King, but the critics just had to hate on DC. I'm not defending DC's movies here, I mean they were pretty bad the last few years, and I feel the critics/audience just doesn't want to see DC do good. Expand

Ignore the metacritic notes. Some kid-brain critics are started their attacks. It's a DC movie not a Marvel/Disney. So that's the reason of this bad ratings.

Go and see it! Best DCEU movie, and an extraordinary superhero movie! You must see it on the big screen! If it was a Marvel movie, than would be 80 points or higher!

This movie is truly a masterpiece in the superhero genre, the cinematography and visuals are breathtaking, simply beautiful to look at. James Wan probably did one of the best directing job in 2018 as everything was just perfect, nailed everything perfectly, catching the heart of the characters and story and also the whole atmosphere and tone of the movie, making everything believable. Its actually really close to the New 52 comic book run that was written by Geoff Johns, it made me as a fan really happy, seeing the villains and all the culture and people done right. Making the costumes for especially Orm, Mera and Aquaman's final suit absolute true to their comic book counterpart. It was also great cast, having a well known ensemble with names like Amber Heard, Willem Defoe, Dolph Lundgren, Patrick Wilson and Nicole Kidman that all portray their characters in a accurate and great way. Jason Momoa blew me away, he's actually a believable Arthur Curry except for the long brown hair and beard. My favorite characters have to be Aquaman and Mera like they were in the graphic novel, great duo and amazing characters!

Something that kept me interested at all times were the action sequences and plot, making it flow together nicely. The Sicily sequence and the final battle being my favorites, making this movie rewatchable more than the great characters and actors they have in store! It's epic and has a lot of heart, thanks to James Wan and everyone else that helped make the movie.

Yes it is a visual spectacle. The colors were bright and vibrant but when it had to get dark the directors horror background had its chance to shine. The plot wasn’t too convoluted or confusing it was pretty straight forward and the characters in that story fit perfectly. The movies tone was done well, it had a great balance and didn’t try to make Aquaman a clown, it knew exactly who he was and Jason played that part to a. Orm was a great villain and understandable. From the sound, to the cast, to the visuals, to the action scenes Aquaman delivers then delivers even more. ANY fan of good films should be seated to watch. And any comic fan owes it to themselves to witness this amazing work

This movie is a fun super hero movie, with a captivating and well portrayed cast. Jason Momoa has done the impossible and made Aquaman a cool and interesting character. Amber Heard did spectacular as Princess Mara, and Willem Dafoe.... He's Willem Dafoe that's all you need. Patrick Wilson took a second to warm up too as a villain, as this is my first time truly seeing him as a villain, however he killed it. All in all a very fun, and very worthwhile experience.

Aquaman is The Best Movie in 2018.

The Movie is so damn cool and is loaded up with nail-gnawing moments didn't anticipate this from the Dc universe. The trailer was promising Taking the trailer as a thought of Dc films the trailers have done to publicity up the motion picture yet the consequence of the motion picture isn't that great yet Aquaman transformed it, it's an astonishing motion picture. It did live up the desires for fans the manner in which they venerate Arthur and Mera's relationship in funnies! A few scenes were very paramount ( Won't state them as it's a non-spoiler survey) ... Aquaman is an exceptionally intriguing character he's proficient to do numerous kinds of stuff you'll know when you watch the motion picture he's boss, Funny a decent blend of a superhuman identity! Aquaman is an unquestionable requirement watch motion picture.

It has high-stakes, a likable main protagonist and a villain you just want to slap. The movie follows "a hero's journey" to the letter and that's a good thing. The story is faithful to the source it is taken from. Jason Momoa is a great leed for this incarnation of the DC hero. Amber Heard is perfect for Mera. She is strong and witty without sacrificing her feminine charm. William Dafoe is well cast as the wise mentor Vulko. His devotion to Arthur is believable. Patrick Will's Ocean Master is a villain you just love to hate with pinch of sympathy. In general the cast is strong.

The hero is cocky and is not interested in the responsibility thrust upon him. After he is soundly humbled for his rash judgement he is insecure and has to face his destiny. A simple premise with good execution. Aquaman is a fin light-hearted adventure that will satisfy anyone looking a good time.

The story is not a game changer and Atlantan is a bit disappointing but the main cast is really good. Orm is a good and challenging villain, Mera slew her part, the introduction of Black Manta is well done and the portrayal of Arthur is interesting. The action scenes are great, so is the CGI. The costumes and makeups definitely deserved at least an Oscar nomination. The 3rd act is breathtaking.
Thank you Wan for bringing back the posing, it really felt like in the comics (especially for the last fight)
- The only con is the humor, it's weak and not really good. That's the only thing keeping the film to be perfect

Pure entertainment! As ITSV it raises the bar high for the comic book genre

Out of the movies I’ve seen from the series, Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad, and Justice League, I have not liked a single one of them. In fact, they just might be up there with the worst movies I have ever seen. However, (I can’t believe I’m saying this) I really enjoyed Aquaman. Yeah. The movies starring some of the most iconic and beloved DC characters? Hated them. The movie based on arguably the stupidest DC character that is pretty much only popular because he’s seen as a joke? I really liked it! It had fun action, a brisk pace that took you all over the place, a light tone that didn’t take itself too seriously, enjoyable characters to go on an adventure with, and breathtakingly beautiful colours. Imagine that, a DC movie that’s bright and colourful! I’m a sucker for neon and bioluminescence especially (Avatar, Tron Legacy, and Blade Runner are some of my favourite movies for that aspect alone), and this movie has a lot of that! Some of the CGI looked a little phoney at times, almost like a video game cutscene, but that just added to the charm in my opinion. Another thing I really appreciated was the fact that it was a stand-alone film with little to no connection to the other movies. There’s a loose connection to Wonder Woman and a reference to Justice League, but that’s it. This is the kind of movie they should’ve been making for the DCEU from the beginning, I’m glad that they seem to be going in this lighter, more fun direction rather than the dark, convoluted Zack Snyder stuff. I highly recommend this movie if you just want to have a good time. It’s The Little Mermaid meets Indiana Jones meets Black Panther featuring battle sharks, crab people, and dinosaurs! Doesn’t that sound awesome? If it does, you’ll like this movie a lot, I think! I’m gonna go watch Wonder Woman and Shazam now. Maybe I do like the DCEU after all! Expand

Jason Momoa takes on the title role with his immense presence and the demeanor of a regular, rough-around-the-edges guy. There's a plot that so feeble it doesn't need to be addressed. The underwater kingdom is full of beautiful, imaginative visuals and slightly bizarre creatures. Director James Wan (primarily known for the "Saw" series) brings his skills with action to create some impressive fight sequences, although (like most of these superhero films) the last big battle is too long and too cluttered. Overall, it's less serious and more fun than many comic book flix. NOTE: Stay thru the closing title sequences for a hint of the sequel. Expand

Aquaman accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do, deliver colorful, over the top comic book action, and it succeeds with witty characters and a sense of adventure and grandeur I haven't felt in a movie for a long time. It does have some flaws, like the movie uses some somewhat misplaced flashbacks to explain Arthur's backstory and I would prefer if it was all in the beginning as a normal sequence. Another thing is that it might be a bit hard to follow with all the kingdom and their plights thrown around and it might leave the uninitiated, like myself, a bit lost and slow to pick up what is going on. But besides these issues the movie is still pretty great. Not some sort of cinematic masterpiece, mind you, but it would be unfair to judge it as some oscar bait trash. Don't judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree. Expand

Had someone ever told me I would enjoy an Aquaman film with Jason Momoa more than any film in the DCU, I wouldn't have believed them and laughed. The truth is imho this is the most effectively executed film of the extremely polarizing DCU, and is filled with an array of epic moments throughout, as well as a fantastic portrayal of the comic story. While it might stray away from comics in certain aspects, it thrives with its own distinct identity. The attention to detail from Wan is impeccable as usual and the visuals in this are mind blowing to say the least. The world building through the diversity of colors, environments, creature designs, costume designs, and the overall perspectives are spectacular. The CGI was heavily utilized but never looked cheap or unrefined and is some of the best work I've seen. The characters are all acted well besides Black Manta's character which I thought was a laughably bad performance though maybe it was just how his character was written. Momoa did well enough and was extremely fun to watch, but Patrick Wilson stole the show with an incredible role as King Orm and added a whole different dimension to the majestic story that I did not see coming. It's clear to see why James Wan casts him so much in his great films. I also thought Willem Dafoe did a fantastic job as Vulko and it was cool to see him once again in a comic adaptation. I did think some of the dialogue and forced comedy was hit or miss at times, and bordered on ridiculous to where i laughed in absurdity. There are some really oddly placed songs in the soundtrack that also add some laughable ridiculousness. Luckily the story thrived so much with its triumphantly heartfelt core and exciting high octane action, that some of the more cheesy parts can be overlooked. It's satisfying to see that Wan took the time, effort, and heart and broke away from tired formulas of the DCU for the most part, to procure an epic original adaptation that sets up a bright future. I just hope the Black Manta character/actor will improve, because if he will be the main villain, he will have to be more convincing and slightly better written. Overall this is a fantastic film that needs to be seen in theaters to truly savor the details and grand scapes. Expand

Amber Heard does a great job as Mera, who really steals the show half the time she's on screen and has wonderful chemistry with Mamoa. There are many plot holes however. Things that just aren't explained before they move onto the next portion of the movie. And the main villain is almost comically evil throughout the movie. Even though he's well acted, it comes off at a little bland for my tastes. The visuals were great, even if most of the outfits throughout the movie are seemingly ripped from a bad 70's comic book movie. But there's just a ton of fun to be had with this movie. Especially considering the fact that the DC movies have just been utter garbage up to this point, besides Wonder Woman. It was nice to watch a movie that didn't feel like it needed to be the savior of the DC cinematic universe. It knew what it wanted to be throughout the movie and it doesn't apologize for a lot of the negative aspects that come with it. I respect the filmmakers decision to do that and it might have saved this movie from being a total piece of crap if they had tried to change anything. Expand

Arthur (Jason Momoa)In a shocking turn of events, DC Comics made a great movie that isn't about Batman! Finally, with Aquaman, fans get the type of movie they've always wanted from DC, and I see big things for the future of this franchise. Arthur (Jason Momoa) is the son of the Queen of Atlantis and a mortal man. He was born with extraordinary abilities, but not with the motivation to use them. After his mother was exiled and presumably killed by Atlantis, Arthur wants nothing to do with his people, until a world wide threat forces him to take action. The story here is the same as your basic comic themed film, saving the world while trying to get the girl, but what makes Aquaman really stand out is it's incredible special effects. Seeing as many films as I do, it's difficult to impress me with a little bit of CGI, but this film had some of the best effects I have ever seen! Even if this was a silent film the sheer beauty and magic of this underwater world would still be breath-taking. Jason Momoa stars in his biggest role to date and this guy absolutely killed it. My biggest fear going into this film was that it would be too cartoonish and led by a newcomer, not a great combination, but Momoa is terrific both his personality and in his ability to put on one hell of a fight scene. As for the cartoonish part, there is a little bit of that and it was a turn off, but you do need to pander to the young crowd a film like this is likely to draw. For my money, this is the best DC Comics film since the Dark Knight. I'm not the biggest Superhero fan and I absolutely loved this movie from beginning to end. The two and half hours literally flew by and in the end I was still craving more. I can't wait to see what's next for Aquaman. Expand

Epic, mythological CGI mega-spectacle blending "Star Wars" and "Avatar" with "Thor: Ragnarok," one for the ages.

"Aquaman" is a stunning miracle; the most visually oddball and mesmerizing big-budget superhero film the world has ever seen. Do not misunderstand me, the Arthur Curry solo film is far from perfect, it presents an origin, born-to-be-king story, rhythmically goes from dynamite to languor and storytelling-wise is whimsical and silly dealing with Greek mythology, but that bravery and audacity, coming from a huge budget and an amazing source material, are what makes it an experience as dangerously unconventional as imperfectly extraordinary.

If "Wonder Woman" was somewhat like a Spider-Man for DC, Arthur Curry would oddly be a colorful hybrid with DNA from Tony Stark, Thor and Star-Lord. The King of the Seven Seas has chances to become the most outstanding, fascinating and exotic superhero of the whole combo out there. Momoa gives his role a dominant macho vibe and look, as well as silliness and sarcastic humor that provide much of the funny and not-so-funny jokes spread throughout the feature film. His acting range and rancidity in each of his scenes are the reason why he's so special, so unique, so emotionally relatable and flat-out politically correct. Bigger-sized muscles, two antagonists, responsibility, legacy, kingship, splendid chases, and hand-to-hand combats, we've seen this before, haven't we? — cough, "Black Panther," cough. — But as Ryan Coogler diligently proposed to make a stand against racism, politics, Hollywood's diversity and some other highly important social matters, Wan loosens up and never takes the material too seriously; it's simple: a silly, funny, over-the-top fantasy actioner with two specific purposes on its mind: a message of solving your problems peacefully and an act of redemption for DC.

Wan's kinetic and idiosyncratic style for action is high and low from stem to stern. Fight sequences are provocative, diligent, straight out of the wildest video game. He also finds time to experiment and toy with settings, nearly masterful camera movements and angles, with explosive 90/180-degree rotations. The camera savagely runs at the audience, endowing dynamism in large part by the uber-excellent technical, artful features of a couple of incredibly and masterfully executed sequences that might be easily part of the annals of this postmodern genre.

Despite CG-overstuffed, even in scenes perfectly filmable in real locations, the film does not limit its creative faculties. Its aesthetics and visual fearlessness, however, make pictures an alluring spectacle propelled by truly great VFX. So far, far away from the gigantic old-fashioned set-pieces of modern Hollywood masterpieces as "Mad Max: Fury Road" and "Mission: Impossible - Fallout," and yet the film's an artificial delight. Wan and his team created an entirely unique aquatic world for us, certainly embellished by Don Burgess, which is over-the-top, dazzling and exciting, absorbent and carefully designed, is pure visual ecstasy. In the end, it's appreciated that this extremely gorgeous world, harmonized by the high-sounding techno-compositions of an unbeatable Rupert Gregson-Williams, is not only a reflection of the cinema of our time, but a reminder of the magnificence sound and image can achieve.

Kidman nails it as Atlanna, a kind of character not entirely foreign to her if you take a look at the prolific career of the "Eyes Wide Shut" actress. Her interpretative balance between fish-out-of-water humor and family drama puts her in a strange yet brilliant position; a golden gift for the genre. Played by Amber Heard, Mera's design is literally and figuratively sparkling; she's the one who leads a couple of commendable sequences that breathe #MeToo. Willem Dafoe as Vulko embraces ambiguity, having fun in a simple, smaller role that doesn't seem to agree with his previous efforts. Patrick Wilson and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II wrongly take turns for being the bad guy. It's hard to tell who and where is the real villain here. They both try their best, but the material does not help them at all.

"Aquaman" by horror mastermind James Wan is a cinematic oddity; it has an irregular pace, speaks louder than it should, ergo runs longer than it should, but even so, Arthur Curry's first solo adventure is the most playful, hilarious, rewarding and profitable comic book adaptation you will find in the troubled DC Cinematic Universe to date. Even if my voice is shaking, I dare say it is the most eye-catching, wildly stunning sci-fi show I have seen into a big-impact Hollywood production since James Cameron's "Avatar," visually speaking. To make your life easier, "Aquaman" could be synthesized like this: "Black Panther" and "Star Wars" meet "Avatar" and "Jupiter Ascending," and these, in turn, bump into "Thor: Ragnarok," energized by a kinetic video game vibe and an unhealthy dose of toxic masculinity and sheer spectacle.

Adorei o filme. A história é toda ela bem explicada desde o inicio, o actor é top e todo o elenco é otimo. A nação Atlantida esta muito bem caracterizada e explicada e apesar de algumas cenas parecerem meio jogadas é um excelente filme.

Talking to fish? Riding around on giant seahorses? No wonder nobody takes him seriously. Therein lies the key to this film's success. Aquaman will never truly be seen as a dark, serious character like Batman. That's just not who he is. Much like Thor in the MCU, Aquaman works best as a fun, cheesy, superhero who is also a total badass. Instead of trying to convince us that Aquaman should be taken seriously, James Wan embraces the absurdity of the character, and the result is totally bonkers movie that's just pure fun to watch. The film's script is weak, but makes up for it with eye-popping CGI spectacle and absolutely gorgeous visuals that remind me of Blade Runner: 2049. The cast is great, especially Jason Momoa, who looks like he's having an absolute blast throughout the movie. Amber Heard's Mera has some pretty sweet fight scenes, and Willem Dafoe gets the rare opportunity to play a good guy as Vulko. Despite being over 2 hours long, the movie feels fast-paced, mainly because it's just one big, fun ride.

For the DCEU, this is a HUGE step in the right direction.

You must suspend your disbelief and embrace its cheeky weirdness. Now, more than a movie, Aquaman is a visual JOURNEY, an immersive experience. This movie is all about its breathtaking world-building, lavish CGI and VFX. The very straightforward story and its charming characters serve one purpose: make you dive deep into their world and fall in love with it. Remember Avatar? Well, Aquaman delivers ten times more joy, awe-inspiring views and badass characters, with almost no political agendas. This movie is aware of what it is and it doesn't pretend to be anything else, because it really doesn't need to, which makes it DCEU's most honest film so far. Back to CGI and VFX, it's the most ambitious film since Avatar and even Gravity, as it makes possible what was believed to be impossible (and even unthinkable): an underwater epic, of which we only really had gotten a glimpse with James Cameron's The Abyss. That was almost 30 years ago! Expand

The scene when we arrive there, Wan first showed an outside view, ships around the "street" flying in a way that really remembered me StarWars episode 2 when that scene in the beginning where there are a lot of ships flying everywhere, but in here the cgi is way better, when we finally got inside of the drowned city we can see the the nature working together with the edifices, it is all very good looking, they did gave a neon atmosphere in everything, the colors make contrast between the blue in the ocean giving everything a very nice aspect to it.
The action in this film is fabulous and giant, there are first solo fights from the characters against the soldiers of Atlantis, the cgi in one or another moment could have got heavy in some of these, but in overall, i think it got really nice, the choreography in some moments isn't really different, but in the fights with the tridents, and down in the ocean, things got really interesting, the floating in the sea is already really nice, to see the characters swimming arounde here and there, is a already nice and different situation, but fighting with all of this together gave some possibilities that, for me, was well made, the details in the water particles while the character were moving and hitting fast, so as the choreography in those one on one were pretty good. The power of Mera was a lot of fun, the water manipulation is a really interesting thing that can be used in some different ways, they used it as a weapon, as a escape exhaust valve and a solution for some situations, that in general it was really well used. The Black Manta visual was dope, and his action was also really nice, giving load to his strikes, and the laser was also really well done. And finally, for the action, the fantastic and giant war that have happened in the end, oh wow, that was great, the cgi wasn't really noticiable there, things were pretty there the animals fighting, the different beings doing different things, and some giant things happen there, wich i'm not going to spoile, but it was beautiful.
Technically this movie is great, the art direction is amazing, there are a lot of shots that i could just put in my wall for just how beautiful the frame was. The costumes are also amazing, the suits and armours that the royal people use in Atlantis are fantastic, the armour of the soldiers are different and also really interesting, and the main guys suit are unbelievable, Aquaman with his golden suit and the Ocean Master with the silver one, those two costumes are one of the prettiest and most loyal from the comics that have ever existed in super hero movies, the contrast that it had when they were battling got fetching. The camera movimentation that Wan uses in here is also a big differential, he uses rotating cameras in some moments, he uses the camera so nicely during the action sequences and also together with the montage, there are also moments, where he uses the camera and the atmosphere in favor to do what he is very familiar in horror movies, so it kind of gives some horror atmosphere sometimes, wich is good and different.
The script is where there is the biggest flaws in this film, first they introduce things well, saying that are different kingdoms and stuff, but things really feel rushed. There are moments where the vibe of the movie changes completely, together with the songs, there are moments where things are, intentionally, very goofy, there are moments that reminded me of baywatch, or trash comedy movies, in other things felt like blade runner, in some moments these crazy things works, in others not that much. There are some solutions that the movie found that i really didn't bought, some explanation situations also feels to conventional. There are some dialogues that are dumb, some really fun moments, some nice reliefs and some moments where more dramatic things happens that do work. The relationship between Mera and Arthur are way to rushed, i didn't really bought that, it does make sense, but definely felt rushed. Black Manta in this movie he have the function of, first to be apresented for us and the universe, second, make things a little harder for Aquaman and Mera, but he isn't really necessary for this film specifically, but he works as in this function. They say that are a lot of kingdoms in the sea, but i really think that i didn't saw all of them, and towards the end i think that in that context, would really make sense on having all of them there, the story is very predictable, we don't really have much surprises going on in here, but it is a solid story.

Aquaman pulls off the visual aspect. Emotionally it's a mixed bag, many scenes were well done, but there were a few that felt like pure filler. I hear some people don't like the soundtrack, but I enjoyed it very much (for the most part), it's different from other superhero movies, and I think it was an excellent choice. Intellectually the movie barely hits surface level, there's not really anything to gain there. It certainly isn't revolutionary in any way, although I say that with an asterisk, because in recent years many movies have started to show great disrespect for the classic good versus evil story arc, as if it was to be avoided, as if cliché was a bad thing, as if exaggerated power and beauty was to be contempted rather than adored and loved, and extreme villainy was too simplistic. Aquaman doesn't care about that, it takes a page from LotR and fully embraces the heorism and villainousness, the strength and the weakness of its characters, and the design and lighting assist this by going hard with the clichés. I haven't seen such pure adoration for beauty and power to this extent on screen in many years. I've been missing it, and I want more of it, now more than ever. This doesn't mean there are no moral gray areas, there certainly are a few. Just don't expect a deeper look into the nature of man.
So overall I consider it a visually stunning, enjoyable ride. Aquaman knows what kind of movie it's supposed to be and it presents itself very well. I consider it one of the better superhero movies of recent years, and one of the better movies in general. It's a textbook example for what I consider simply a good, enjoyable movie that I won't forget anytime soon. It's a bit like a modern Titanic, but with more emphasis on epicness and visuals and less on emotion.

Jason Momoa stated in an interview that there's only a little bit of preachiness in Aquaman, not so much that it could become annoying. I fully agree with him, and I appreciate that James Wan understands this, too. A movie is supposed to be nothing more than a movie, even if it makes the audience think, it's never supposed to pull us right back into reality. If we think about any of the implications of the in-movie commentary, then we're supposed to think about it within the realm of that movie. Only when the end credits roll is when the magic should be allowed to fade. And I, for one, had this exact experience. I felt like a kid in a theater again.

Callmeyourkingsobeit: The Movie.

It's admittedly overlong because it's overstuffed with too many story-lines, and a long introductory opening sequence that could, and should, have easily been omitted; as there are many better-executed flashbacks which are more than enough. Add to this the fact that the aforementioned opening sequence is filled with cringe-inducing moments, including those which concern the romantic aspect, which is, in my opinion, the only silly thing that didn't work in the movie.

That said, the movie is packed with thrilling, kinetic, and meticulously designed and choreographed action set-pieces, in which you really can follow the action and the liberated fight sequences buoyed by raucous deluge of dazzling array of visual effects. Replicating underwater movement, and offering exotic creatures and characters' outfits that contrast the deep blue sea with splashes of bright colors, James Wan did a tremendous job creating an underwater world that's a visual feast that's consistently boasting a visual feast for the eyes. I enjoyed the out-of-water action sequences more, they are better and more masterfully designed than those that take place underwater; but nothing can compete with the stunning free-flowing underwater action scenes from the visual standpoint.

Aside from Furious 7, Wan's filmography is strictly horror related, having launched franchises in his own right with Saw and The Conjuring. Here we can see that he still uses his background in horror to deliver some moments that have shocking and surprising value, and they are quite effective.

It's not hard to tell that the entire cast and crew went all out. Their dedication does not go unnoticed. All the cast did their best to give a strong comeback, considering that most of them once had a quite promising and auspicious career. As for Jason Momoa, he really shines as the titular superhero. His physical appearance suits the badass character that the DCEU wanted to make from the get-go. He looks and fights as if he is a WWE superstar! Amber Heard is great, and the chemistry between her Indiana Jonesian character, Mera and Momoa's Aquaman is electric and gripping. They make an awesome dynamic duo, and their sugary cheerful relationship made up for the nauseating, saccharine romance of Tom Curry and Queen Atlanna.

The two villains have quite compelling background and convincing motives. And each one's sub-plot never overshadows the other's. Also, Patrick Wilson and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II are pretty good.

Aquaman is An Extremely Cool and Bad-ass Epic Fantasy Adventure of Cheesiness! It's decidedly a step in the right direction for DC. I still think Wonder Woman is the best movie in their extended universe, so far; but Aquaman is now my personal favorite.

All hail the true King, James Wan!

I was not expecting anything more than a little CGI eye candy, and the chance to look at Jason Momoa for a while. While it’s true that probably 50% or more of the movie is action sequences, and while it’s also true that the plot is little more than something to hang the action on, and that the dialog is pretty superficial, I have to admit that I sat wide eyed and riveted through every moment of this epic achievement in 3D visual splendor. Over and over again, I could not believe what I was being treated to. Again and again I found myself mouthing “holy s@#t” as another simply amazing visual unfolded. Though the action was completely over the top, it was so incredibly edited that it managed to be intimate and easy to follow, while being absolutely immense. I also enjoyed Nicole Kidman and the rest of the cast. Jason Momoa was epic. He may not win an Oscar for this role, but he was simply perfect. Bottom line, I was extremely surprised to find that I really enjoyed this movie - enough to write this review and advise others to go and enjoy it too. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Aquaman is a fun superhero movie lighter in tone compared to the other DCEU movies. Its a fresh take on the king of atlantis with solid performances from the starcast especially from momoa and patrick wilson. The visuals are stunning , fight choreography exquiste, the suits of aquamna, mera, ocean master and black manta seems to have been ripped-off straight from the comics.A drawback to it would be that it contains too many cheesy dialogues which at times were even cringe worthy and also, some subplots were not given as much weight as they should have been. Nevertheless, the good outweigh the bad and you can easily forget about those little errors since the story itself compensate for it. James Wan has nailed it with his vision and direction and thanks to him, AQUAMAN would no longer be the joke he was once. Expand

Visually incredible. The Story did drag a bit, but the characters were fully realised, and the was never a dull moment.

The effects was one of the best parts of this movie! Watching them go though Atlantis with their underwater vehicles was amazing. I loved Amber Heard as Mera and Jason Mamoa was amazing
