Extremely disappointed. Aquaman was a film that could have been great, but ultimately fell flat. The amazing CGI did not make up for the cheesey jokes and what felt like a dumbed down script. The best visuals in the whole film are the end credits. Honestly.
Otherwise this is a wall-to-wall cartoonish CGI spectacle. Even the 'surface' scenes are all CGI so that a simple grassy hill looks like a scene from Peter Rabbit.

And so many silly characters that I was waiting for Jar-Jar Binks to make a cameo (and, sadly, he'd be in the right movie).

The story: descent but not well acted. Really wished there was a young Dafoe to have played Ocean Master. Maybe that's where a good CGI effort should have gone, making him look younger to play Aquaman's brother. Kidman is just a place-holder for other to deliver their lines.… Expand

1. Did I say script was horrific, generic predictable
-dialog was childish,
-I could see the actors reading the script off the page, is that directors fault. They spent so much time of the CG that they didn’t pay attention how horrible the script was
2. CG was bad, cartoonish, very video game...not believable. I can see the green screen!!!!!!
3. Poor costumes and wigs, I can tell amber is wearing a lace front wig. And under water creatures wearing s shoes!!! Yup Nichole Kidman had shoes on when she came out of the water!! And a suit that the necktie was loose!! Isn’t she supposed to be from under water? What happened to blending the neckline into her skin? Just baaad. Ruined it from minute one
3. Over the to sound effects, just not believable . Daggers sound like swords ...just bad
3.. now Nichole Kidman was is baaaaad Casting ! She was awful, I did not even believe her acting! The fight scene she did in the beginning is comical

If to tell the story of a superhero the screenwriters plunder those of King Arthur and Pinocchio, it is better to change jobs. Some ideas and some emotions only in the last half hour, after two hours too long.

I love silly video games, but I think a movie should provide and other kind of experience. The plot is somehow overcomplicated and extremely simplistic at the same time, but most definitely unoriginal. DC, pay attention; Joker, Dark Knight Trilogy and Snyder Cut (already) some of your most respected films to date. Even Wonder Woman was dark and gritty set in WW1. Tim Burton’s Batman. Your best and most successful Movies have a general theme... Darker, Grittier and no or very minimal cheesiness. The best part of the movie is the eye candy that Aquaman is. The acting is subpar at best, although a few in the supporting cast deliver good performances. Calling it a DC film is the primary misnomer. It effectively isn't. What it genuinely is, is a Disney movie with out of place murders,It manages to do what I thought were not possible and edges out Wonder Woman as the worst DC film made.

Calling it a DC film is the primary misnomer. It effectively isn't. What it genuinely is, is a Disney movie with out of place murders, profanity and even honest to God Disney Easter eggs buried within. Such as the Goofy "Whaahahahooey" falling scream and referencing the Disney film Pinocchio. It goes shot for shot emulating tried and true Disney formulas and constantly tries to allude to Disney through the whole overly drawn out affair. It takes the worst elements of Disney super hero films and produces a bland wannabe copy absent anything resembling artistic integrity. Its big budget Hollywood summer blockbuster schlock, released in the winter.

Even if you can get past the Disney fan service, the film is simply not good. A ridiculous and forever irredeemable character, a sad rogues gallery, tired plot riddled with errors and outright lack of thought, devoid of originality or anything thought provoking. It spends its run time trying so hard to over the top itself with its extensive overly neon CGI that it feels like the illegitimate love child of a B list MCU character and a Fast and furious film. Which to no surprise its Director was previously involved in the F&F franchise.

I give WB kudos however for resisting the urge to pull another Disney trope and have either licensed or got the rights to contemporize the 1968 song "I want to marry a light house keeper" for the sound track.

This film is so bad that it actually manages to set the whole genre of superhero films back and that is with how much damage Disney has already done to any legitimacy in film that super hero films like Blade, Logan and Deadpool were actually able to muster.… Expand

Today it's just a repetitive boring market for kids and fanboys.

The moments like fight scenes or the first reveal of the lost city , were supposed to be exciting , they were not, they were so poorly done that I was literally falling asleep in a theater...I couldn't finish watching this atrocity , I stood up and walked out. It's weird that reviewers have co-opted the word "fun" to mean "stupid, bad, and predictable." At no point in the movie are you surprised by the plot. You are never wondering "what happens next." You are never wondering "what happens next." There is no tension, no drama. Everything goes exactly how you think it will. You are never laughing with it, only laughing at it. But it's not bad enough to be interesting, or real enough to be compelling. You catch on, about 20 minutes in, that Aquaman is 100% a cartoon. Everything has been illustrated - the underwater cities, the wet hair, the fish - from monster seahorses to prehistoric alligators - and the actors have just been partially inserted. So to go with this 99% CGI movie is a typical epic story for kids, with strangely adult violence. It's a standard hero's journey, find the artifact, fall in love with the princess, become the king story you've seen a hundred times. Then you stop wondering why Aquaman can lift a manned submarine from the depths to the surface without giving its crew the bends, because it's just a cartoon.

Which would be fine, but the worst part about Aquaman is that it's boring. It's two and a half hours long and it's boring. We've seen the hero's journey before, but how is this one different? It's not. It's just underwater. Underwater wrestling match in a coliseum. Underwater politics. Oh god, why did they introduce so much dumb politics? Underwater journey to the different kingdoms, underwater monsters, underwater lasers, underwater princess. The enemies all look like Sentai villains from Power Rangers. One bad guy wants revenge for Aquaman killing his father, which was, frankly, a dick move on Aquaman's part. The main bad guy wants revenge on the surface world for pollution and climate change, which was not that strongly debated by Aquaman. Aquaman just doesn't like bad guy. They just fight because, well, it's an action movie.

It boggles the mind, too, because this is just the Green Lantern movie all over again, except most people hated Green Lantern.… Expand

Awful. But watchable. The movie was already so absurd, you'd think they'd just play with our suspension of disbelief and just go all the way. Instead a dud.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For a movie based mostly in the ocean depths, it was fairly shallow. I mean, how many iterations of The Lion King should a person have to watch in his/her lifetime?

Without exaggeration, every major advance in the film's plot was entirely predictable. The characters didn't even have the depth to diverge a micrometer from their archetypes. And who thought it was appropriate to put dinosaurs in this movie?

Jason Momoa isn't hard to watch onscreen. Unfortunately, his emotional acting is unconvincing and, since he had the most screentime, there was a lot of it. Thankfully he was supported by some solid performers who helped offset his lack of emotional depth. Still left a bad taste in my mouth. Momoa was cast as eye candy and we all know it.

The visual effects were... interesting. The underwater characters' undulating jellyfish hair was amusing, at least. I was never sure how exactly the Atlanteans propelled themselves through the water, unless they are to water what Superman is to air. I also wasn't sure how Aquaman could control some sealife but not others (Orm's steed, for instance). Cheap plot advancement, anyone? And don't get me started on the dinosaurs...

The dialog left much to be desired, nearing the quality of a high school drama club self-made production. At times I laughed out loud at the sheer absurdity of it. It was so stilted and abrupt that I couldn't help but wonder if someone bribed or otherwise relieved the proofreader of his job. It was definitely flirting with an underwater soap opera.

All things considered, the film isn't harmful to one's health and it's probably one of the best films put out by DC in recent years (WW is still top notch in my books). It is, however, a far cry from art. And how about those dinosaurs, eh?… Expand

I'm happy DC is turning away from gritty Snyderverse, but this movie was a mess. I really hope they keep the lighthearted fun for the next movie but with a decent plot & story. This was terrible.

If nothing else this movie will make you appreciate the importance of character. There are undeniably beautiful scenes, and the action escalates to the point of near absurdity by the final battle. In my opinion its also impossible to justify the 2 and half hour runtime, and the cheesy dialogue and just generally conventional screenwriting can never be totally overcome no matter how crazy and boundary pushing the visuals become… Expand

I went into this movie with cautious optimism as DC, besides the Wonder Woman movie, doesn't have a very good track record when it comes to their movies of late.  To be honest, I almost walked out of the theater about 45 minutes to an hour inI went into this movie with cautious optimism as DC, besides the Wonder Woman movie, doesn't have a very good track record when it comes to their movies of late.  To be honest, I almost walked out of the theater about 45 minutes to an hour in as the acting from anyone that wasn't Jason Mamoa or Amber Heard (in the scenes where they were together anyway) were at best "wooden" and at worst (read mostly) overly dramatic and hard to watch.

The acting kept ripping me out of the narrative as did the over the top sound design.  Someone care to explain how an 8 inch dagger being removed from a small belt sheath sounds like a long sword being removed from a metal scabbard?  I mean really...Not only was the acting over the top and cheesy but the sound effects matched.   I haven't seen this bad of sound design since the late 90s Power Rangers when I was young.  Speaking of Power Rangers, Black Manta's suit.  Seriously, right up there with Apocalypse from that horrible X-Men movie.  I know Black Manta looks a bit silly in the comics but come on, a tweenage cosplayer could have made something that looked better. And while I'm at it would someone like to explain exactly how humanity hasn't noticed a Tron like Gungan city with "highways" and vehicles and super powered laser cannons around the outside walls.

Im sorry but this movie just has so many technical and narrative problems that it can be hard to watch most of the time.

Even my lowered, cautious expectations were dissapointed here.  I rank this DC movie almost in a tie with Green Lantern.  Give it a pass.  It's not worth the cost of admission, much less the fuel to drive to a theater or snacks. … Expand

There is absolutely no way the director and producer have ever seen an actual movie and Jason Mamoa should be ashamed to have put his name on this. I walked out of the theater after 30 minutes and told the manager they have a duty to not allow guests to spend their money on this movie. As to what caused me to walk out? Here's some of the details...... SPOILERS AHEAD.....
The movie begins as an awful throwback to Falcon Crest type soap format with Nicole Kidman CGI'd to look young and as hard as it was to make it through this first part I was hoping the action would at least make up for it. Not the case. Jump to Aquaman jumping on board a Russian (yes Russian) submarine and the scene couldn't have been more of an intro to a gay porn where he lands, swishes his hair back, close up on face, steam in the back ground, and looks at the camera and says "Permission to come aboard?"

Seriously? The following scenes where the actors are trying to fight/shoot/struggle at whatever the antogonist is were painful to watch. Broken editing, poor camera angles, poor sound editing and music. Its just the worst. When I found myself wishing I was watching a Nicolas Cage movie that was when I told my girlfriend we're walking out. This is one of the worst films I have seen since Baywatch and its even worse than that.… Expand

Just went and saw Aquaman. Who is responsible for writing that rubbish?! Can I get a job there? Im sure they'd hire me as I have no experience at all in script writing so id fit right in. Nicole Kidman was as wooden as the boat she sailed on in dead calm. Im sure many will love it however, there is no accounting for taste. Temuera Morrison aka Jake the Mus should go back to the pub! At least we now know what he looks like with a full head of hair.
Im not going to rate it as im too disappointed. I mean when will DC get it right? They even stole the Idea of the Bifröst from Thor:(… Expand

Wasting away potentially great storylines and fees like a haphazard patchwork of various films with no identity of what kind of film it wants to be. I haven’t seen a film this haphazardly slapped together since Thor:The Dark World. All Aquaman had to do with craft a plot that was unique much like its underwater setting yet it was the most generic plot I’ve seen in a while. The clunky dialogue didn’t help matters so its a film that looks fantastic but its core is weak.

This movie is so random, sure it's an evolution for DC movies but still not a great production. About that woman who play Mera SHE CAN NOT ACT, such a bad actress, she was only cast because she looks pretty in that wig, and this is somenthing cause that was a terrible wig. And there is no chemistry between two main characters.
The CGI is very good and some actions scenes work, but that is all. They have to take some lessons on how to tell a story and still make it fun, with the Wonder Woman team.
Once again a disposable summer movie.… Expand

Warner Bros does not seem to care about moral issues.
As long as a bad person like Ms. Heard shows no remorse and does not appologize for anything, giving her a platform should be a big no no.
