Out of the movies I’ve seen from the series, Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad, and Justice League, I have not liked a single one of them. In fact, they just might be up there with the worst movies I have ever seen. However, (I can’t believe I’m saying this) I really enjoyed Aquaman. Yeah. The movies starring some of the most iconic and beloved DC characters? Hated them. The movie based on arguably the stupidest DC character that is pretty much only popular because he’s seen as a joke? I really liked it! It had fun action, a brisk pace that took you all over the place, a light tone that didn’t take itself too seriously, enjoyable characters to go on an adventure with, and breathtakingly beautiful colours. Imagine that, a DC movie that’s bright and colourful! I’m a sucker for neon and bioluminescence especially (Avatar, Tron Legacy, and Blade Runner are some of my favourite movies for that aspect alone), and this movie has a lot of that! Some of the CGI looked a little phoney at times, almost like a video game cutscene, but that just added to the charm in my opinion. Another thing I really appreciated was the fact that it was a stand-alone film with little to no connection to the other movies. There’s a loose connection to Wonder Woman and a reference to Justice League, but that’s it. This is the kind of movie they should’ve been making for the DCEU from the beginning, I’m glad that they seem to be going in this lighter, more fun direction rather than the dark, convoluted Zack Snyder stuff. I highly recommend this movie if you just want to have a good time. It’s The Little Mermaid meets Indiana Jones meets Black Panther featuring battle sharks, crab people, and dinosaurs! Doesn’t that sound awesome? If it does, you’ll like this movie a lot, I think! I’m gonna go watch Wonder Woman and Shazam now. Maybe I do like the DCEU after all! Expand

Movie is for kids Worst script I have ever seen. Worse than wonder woman .Please tell me there is more of us that didn’t like this. Ok let’s see:
1. Did I say script was horrific, generic predictable
-dialog was childish,
-I could see the actors reading the script off the page, is that directors fault. They spent so much time of the CG that they didn’t pay attention how horrible the script was
2. CG was bad, cartoonish, very video game...not believable. I can see the green screen!!!!!!
3. Poor costumes and wigs, I can tell amber is wearing a lace front wig. And under water creatures wearing s shoes!!! Yup Nichole Kidman had shoes on when she came out of the water!! And a suit that the necktie was loose!! Isn’t she supposed to be from under water? What happened to blending the neckline into her skin? Just baaad. Ruined it from minute one
3. Over the to sound effects, just not believable . Daggers sound like swords ...just bad
3.. now Nichole Kidman was is baaaaad Casting ! She was awful, I did not even believe her acting! The fight scene she did in the beginning is comical
4. Even thought the music was cheesy!!! It had potential but it was one cheesy line after another and very predictable. Even the music was cheesy. Drove me crazy. And the ending.......ugh, couldn’t watch! And...they kept it open for a second one.

In the past few years, DC’s movies were more like a hit and miss after Justice League’s under-performance with fans and critics divided over the future of the DCEU.
But with Aquaman, DC fans gained some hope after all. AQUAMAN is a fun thrilling ride, with fascinating visuals and great action sequences (the chase scene) that worked pretty well with the camera work!

James Wan widens the DCEU with a new underwater world to explore some great characters we see for the first time on the big screen. Jason Momoa’s take on Arthur Curry was bad-ass and he kicks ass with a charismatic touch of his own proving he’s worthy of the role. As for Amber Heard, she gives an excellent performance as Queen Mera and her chemistry with Jason was really compelling. Would’ve liked to see more of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta as he was a bit underused and his story didn’t really serve the main plot of the movie, but still looking forward to see more of him as Aquaman’s archenemy in the near future.

The writing of this movie was a lot of the time clunky and some of the dialogue sounded too cheesy. Plus, the tone of the movie was super light-hearted and it’s very clear that James Wan tried to make it different than previous movies and drove away from the usual dark tone. A lot of the comedy one-liners didn’t land and were a bit forced.

The score of the movie is pretty good but the use of some pop songs was really buggy, out of place, and should’ve been avoided given that the main theme of the movie is spectacular. Thanks to Rupert Gregson-Williams!

The horror aspect of James Wan was so satisfying and was pretty much clear based on his former experience with the horror genre, pushing the visuals to new a level in this epic underwater opera!
Unfortunately, the final act of the movie was filled with battle scenes that were all over the place and too noisy with too much going on underwater.

The most unintentionally funny superhero movie ever made - this laughable mess feels like a parody of itself and an homage to the 90s Batman films more than a serious take on the aquatic hero.

The reason all the dumb stuff worked for me was because that's what it was trying to be. And Jason Momoa made it work. He was just kind of being himself. And normally these movies don't work because they go too heavy with the CGI and not enough on story and dialogue. But this might be the best looking movie I have ever seen. All the scenes underwater looked incredible. And I loved the trident fights. This movie is entertaining and a lot of fun. And it does have characters with a lot of history and background. That helps elevate the story. If you are going to make a superhero movie more about action and CGI then make it incredible. That's what they did here. Expand

I wish they knew how to treat audiences with some respect and got creative with how they execute an origin story. Aquaman, to its detriment, never lets up. It barely lets you breathe by bursting a villain and drowning you in one action sequence after another. Our superhero movie fatigue is exacerbated by Aquaman. It is through-and-through a popcorn movie. If you're looking for something that's pushing the genre and artform forward, I suggest you go see Spider-Verse. Expand

This movie was good, easily the best since the Dark Knight Rises, James Wan and Jason Mamoa saved the DCEU. Critics called this movie out for cliche, but never mentioned it once when talking about Black Panther. Black Panther ended with a 97%, and Aquaman a 64%. This movie had much better special effects and cgi compared to Black Panther, but Panther never got criticized for the bad cgi. Also the action in Aquaman was much better than Black Panther, but never got praise. Black Panther was literally the Lion King, but the critics just had to hate on DC. I'm not defending DC's movies here, I mean they were pretty bad the last few years, and I feel the critics/audience just doesn't want to see DC do good. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wow the critic reviews are horrible! What happened!? I thought the movie was good, no? Perhaps the best DC CU movie, just as good as Wonder Woman.
Lets start from start, good introduction to character, fighting scenes were fun. Movie has many funny moments too. Next, childhood, I wish I saw more of it actually. The villain (back manata) was nice sub-villain too, not the usual comic book "i am bad and i die in the end after lengthy fight" type villain. Mother being alive was kind of foreshadowing, but I was still happy to see it be.
Underground Atlantis felt like TRON underwater, which was awesome. Cast is good! There was an underwater tornado part which was very epileptic, I dont suffer from it but even to me it was unpleasant. The big snake thing talking was kind of confusing in the beginning, the sound and surroundings did not match well, but in the end it was ok. Overall, fun and nice movie 9/10

His action and battle sequences are nothing short of epic with the latter being large enough in scale to rival even the most thrilling conflicts in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy. The CGI is pretty dodgy, but that's kind of forgivable given how nobody's really tried all of this underwater stuff before. Tougher to overlook the on land portions though, especially with those glaringly obvious green screens.

This is kind of like the DCEU's Black Panther. You've got a guy battling for a throne he feels unworthy of and a cast of characters who are ultimately outshined by the world they live in. The film basically takes place in an underwater Wakanda, only with somehow even more fantastical elements. I never formed an emotional connection with anything despite the film's constant efforts to try and convince me that Arthur's mommy issues actually mattered, but I was nonetheless fascinated by all the places I was being taken onscreen.

Our ability to really connect with the characters is hindered by how lively the plot is. There's so much going on that it's hard to believe things never feel overstuffed or exhausting despite the fact that the pace never relents for a single second. Impressive given how having this much content led to Spider-man's cinematic demise twice before he found his way to the MCU. Of course it also doesn't help that Wan layed the Velveeta on thick. A move that feels intentional, but robs the movie of some quality that otherwise would have been there.

Aquaman remains a lot of fun though. It plays out like an action-adventure movie with Jason Momoa trotting around the globe in search of an ancient weapon like some kind of mega-buff Indiana Jones. There's plenty of jaw-dropping spectacle and Atlantis is such an imaginative, fascinating place that it's hard to take your eyes off the screen no matter how irreverent and goofy things can get.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was so mad walking out of this film. I literally haven't felt worse in my life. I felt this way because I knew I couldn't give this film higher than a 10. This was literally, and yes, I've only seen the film once, my FAVORITE FILM OF ALL TIME. I never thought I'd see Batman and Superman together on screen. I heard Ben Affleck say that even he had a hard time understanding the plot of this film, and I did too. I'm so happy that I can relate to such a good guy. Speaking of, he was great in the film. Batman is now a murderer, but it makes sense, as he was emotionally broken after Robin's death. While this "theory" isn't confirmed, I saw it on Youtube, so it MUST be true. Also, Superman was good. Even though I didn't really understand why Superman had to die so soon, I guess it was the right choice. Sure, his character was a bit rushed, and his greatest storyline has now been wasted, but this is such a MINOR complaint. My only real problem is that, for a film called "Aquaman", he only had a small cameo along with other heroes, for about 15 seconds. But, again, this is such a minor complaint. All in all, DC is still going strong. I love how they built up a whole universe, and are now rebooting it. Like, it's such a GREAT idea, because it's different from Marvel. With love, DCShill12 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There's a lot of worthy praise about this movie's visuals and action sequences. The movie really is stunning visually. Some incredible CGI, truly. That being said, that's about all that's praiseworthy about Aquaman. The character and plot development is either horribly rushed or sorely lacking. It really left me hurting for more. Not in a good way. A few of the one-liners made me chuckle, but most made me cringe or groan. The dialogue is poor and the story seems hastily patched together amidst a deluge of action scenes. Excellent action, but too much frosting on very little cake makes for a poor experience.

Honestly I was most disappointed because of the incredible potential of this material. Wan really showed incredible imagination, but he just crammed way too much into one movie. The incredible potential for Atlantis world-building is clearly there, but it's just blasted through at such a wastefully fast pace. There's enough content for three movies crammed into a span of two and a half hours...

Picture this: (SPOILERS ahead) The first film could have simply introduced Aquaman and Black Manta (btw, his helmut looked really dumb, haha), two origin stories, as the core of the film. This would allow more time for proper character and plot development. Glimpses of the Atlantis culture could be included, Mera's character could begin investigating this half-breed, assisting Aquaman with his battle against Black Manta, and the end of the film would tease the unrest of the seven kingdoms.

Film two: the war of the seven kingdoms begins. Aquaman is not crowned king yet, but still plays a vital role in protecting the surface-dwelling world. Perhaps Orm remains prince (a minor antagonist) and his father, still alive, is the primary antagonist that stirs conflict. This allows so much more time for world-building and character development for these amazing seven kingdoms. Orm could even assist Aquaman only to gain the throne from his father.

Potential film three: Orm becomes the main antagonist after the defeat of his father and stirs conflict again in the seven kingdoms. Aquaman journeys to the trench to discover his mother, claim the trident, and become king, ending the conflict, defeating Orm, and bringing peace to Atlantis.

This is all just spitballing, but my point is that this movie covered WAY too much content in one sitting. Such a waste. So much potential. So much imagination, just horribly paced. I had no TIME to really digest or appreciate anything, since everything was flying by me at the speed of light. Justice League suffered from the same issue: trying to accomplish too much in one film.

The intentional "bad" character development is questionable. (I won't mention details for "reasons".)
The writing is Extremely corny. It nearly gets unwatchable with how corny it gets. (Took me a few times to sit down, and watch the whole movie through, since the corny stuff was that bad.)
The special effects are average, but the artistic direction, and intention were honestly rather impressive, and really nice!
But the positive art direction, negates the negative corny writing, leaving us with an average movie.

However, I can't say it's good, but some aspects of the movie are so bad and ridiculous they become funny and hilarious, that's why I'm giving this a positive rating because it kept me entertained.

The Good:
-Finally a DCEU movie that focuses on entertaining its audience and not on setting up ten thousand movies nor rushing twenty storylines in one movie. -It's silly and cheesy, with over-the-top acting and comic-book accurate suits that look ridiculous in live-action, but that's the point of the fun of this movie and doesn't take itself too seriously, which makes it better.

The Bad:
-Some CGI looked bad and most of the movie looks very over-saturated, just look at Amber Heard's red hair, in many scenes it looks so bright red it's awful.
-That cringeworthy cover of "Africa" by Toto from Pitbull, oh my God.

If this is the direction DC is going for with its Cinematic Universe, then i'm in. That's why Marvel movies are so beloved because even though they might not be good movies on their own, they are fun and entertaining, which is something that I hope DC keeps doing with their next movies.

Seriously, many many scenes didn't even need to be CGI but they were. I wonder if anyone in the cast even got wet filming this movie sometimes. Though the art style is amazing, the directing style is almost child-like... very similar to Michael Bay or something like Zak Snyder just more colorful. Too much camera spinning and zooming in a way that's impossible for a real camera so you know it's CGI. The choreography is pretty good, however.
I've loved Momoa since Game of Thrones and he has tons of charisma and puts 100% into every role he plays. The casting is incredible in this movie but they are not given much to do. Aquaman started out great but then fell into literally an hour of exposition. This stuff is not that complicated, writers. We are not dummies we can get it without an explanation for everything. On top of that most of the comedic moments fell flat and were something like the humor of 80s movies which is quaint and cute today but comes off dated in a new film.
It seems like this movie is a sample of a dozen movies you have seen before. Everything is too predictable and it just never tries anything original or surprising. My wife and I were constantly guessing aloud the next line or the next scene and it's like we are psychic prophets or something... or it's like everything we've already seen before.

TL;DR - Great Story-line. So-So CGI. Way to many cliche's. Acting mostly sucks. Worth seeing, once.

First off, since I was a little squid Aquaman has always been my favorite superhero. I identified with the story-line and the ability to swim under water and talk to animals. From the original cartoons in the 60's, to the Patrick Duffy "Man from Atlantis" series in the 70's, to everything Justice League...I've seen everything Aquaman. So based on that alone, I knew the movie would entertain me, regardless. But they could have done so much better.

STORY-LINE (9/10): The story line is amazing, and that alone was worth watching the movie for. IMHO, the writer's did a great job there. It wasn't as deep as it could have gone, but it was more than enough for a first film. 9/10

CGI (6/10): While some of the CGI was pretty good, most of it seemed halfheartedly done - and very obvious. In my opinion, CGI should be seamless, preferably not even noticeable, and definitely not distracting. Almost every Facial CGI modification in this movie is "in-your-face" noticeable...and very distracting from the plot.

ACTING (5/10): While I like Jason Momoa as a person, and I had zero problem with him being Aquaman, he did not give his best performance here as an actor. Additionally, there were just WAY too many cliches in this film. Each time it happened, I was just thinking "was that really necessary? it did nothing but take away from the quality of the film.

So in summary, it's definitely worth seeing once for any Aquaman fan-boy...but I can't imagine wanting to watch this film a second time. Just not enough value there and the overall experience was MEH...

The story is not a game changer and Atlantan is a bit disappointing but the main cast is really good. Orm is a good and challenging villain, Mera slew her part, the introduction of Black Manta is well done and the portrayal of Arthur is interesting. The action scenes are great, so is the CGI. The costumes and makeups definitely deserved at least an Oscar nomination. The 3rd act is breathtaking.
Thank you Wan for bringing back the posing, it really felt like in the comics (especially for the last fight)
- The only con is the humor, it's weak and not really good. That's the only thing keeping the film to be perfect

Pure entertainment! As ITSV it raises the bar high for the comic book genre

Epic, mythological CGI mega-spectacle blending "Star Wars" and "Avatar" with "Thor: Ragnarok," one for the ages.

"Aquaman" is a stunning miracle; the most visually oddball and mesmerizing big-budget superhero film the world has ever seen. Do not misunderstand me, the Arthur Curry solo film is far from perfect, it presents an origin, born-to-be-king story, rhythmically goes from dynamite to languor and storytelling-wise is whimsical and silly dealing with Greek mythology, but that bravery and audacity, coming from a huge budget and an amazing source material, are what makes it an experience as dangerously unconventional as imperfectly extraordinary.

If "Wonder Woman" was somewhat like a Spider-Man for DC, Arthur Curry would oddly be a colorful hybrid with DNA from Tony Stark, Thor and Star-Lord. The King of the Seven Seas has chances to become the most outstanding, fascinating and exotic superhero of the whole combo out there. Momoa gives his role a dominant macho vibe and look, as well as silliness and sarcastic humor that provide much of the funny and not-so-funny jokes spread throughout the feature film. His acting range and rancidity in each of his scenes are the reason why he's so special, so unique, so emotionally relatable and flat-out politically correct. Bigger-sized muscles, two antagonists, responsibility, legacy, kingship, splendid chases, and hand-to-hand combats, we've seen this before, haven't we? — cough, "Black Panther," cough. — But as Ryan Coogler diligently proposed to make a stand against racism, politics, Hollywood's diversity and some other highly important social matters, Wan loosens up and never takes the material too seriously; it's simple: a silly, funny, over-the-top fantasy actioner with two specific purposes on its mind: a message of solving your problems peacefully and an act of redemption for DC.

Wan's kinetic and idiosyncratic style for action is high and low from stem to stern. Fight sequences are provocative, diligent, straight out of the wildest video game. He also finds time to experiment and toy with settings, nearly masterful camera movements and angles, with explosive 90/180-degree rotations. The camera savagely runs at the audience, endowing dynamism in large part by the uber-excellent technical, artful features of a couple of incredibly and masterfully executed sequences that might be easily part of the annals of this postmodern genre.

Despite CG-overstuffed, even in scenes perfectly filmable in real locations, the film does not limit its creative faculties. Its aesthetics and visual fearlessness, however, make pictures an alluring spectacle propelled by truly great VFX. So far, far away from the gigantic old-fashioned set-pieces of modern Hollywood masterpieces as "Mad Max: Fury Road" and "Mission: Impossible - Fallout," and yet the film's an artificial delight. Wan and his team created an entirely unique aquatic world for us, certainly embellished by Don Burgess, which is over-the-top, dazzling and exciting, absorbent and carefully designed, is pure visual ecstasy. In the end, it's appreciated that this extremely gorgeous world, harmonized by the high-sounding techno-compositions of an unbeatable Rupert Gregson-Williams, is not only a reflection of the cinema of our time, but a reminder of the magnificence sound and image can achieve.

Kidman nails it as Atlanna, a kind of character not entirely foreign to her if you take a look at the prolific career of the "Eyes Wide Shut" actress. Her interpretative balance between fish-out-of-water humor and family drama puts her in a strange yet brilliant position; a golden gift for the genre. Played by Amber Heard, Mera's design is literally and figuratively sparkling; she's the one who leads a couple of commendable sequences that breathe #MeToo. Willem Dafoe as Vulko embraces ambiguity, having fun in a simple, smaller role that doesn't seem to agree with his previous efforts. Patrick Wilson and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II wrongly take turns for being the bad guy. It's hard to tell who and where is the real villain here. They both try their best, but the material does not help them at all.

"Aquaman" by horror mastermind James Wan is a cinematic oddity; it has an irregular pace, speaks louder than it should, ergo runs longer than it should, but even so, Arthur Curry's first solo adventure is the most playful, hilarious, rewarding and profitable comic book adaptation you will find in the troubled DC Cinematic Universe to date. Even if my voice is shaking, I dare say it is the most eye-catching, wildly stunning sci-fi show I have seen into a big-impact Hollywood production since James Cameron's "Avatar," visually speaking. To make your life easier, "Aquaman" could be synthesized like this: "Black Panther" and "Star Wars" meet "Avatar" and "Jupiter Ascending," and these, in turn, bump into "Thor: Ragnarok," energized by a kinetic video game vibe and an unhealthy dose of toxic masculinity and sheer spectacle.

I had a lot of more fun watching Aquaman than I expected on my 55 inch 4k HDR 5.1 setup. The cast do their job well here delivering the characters emotional beats with gusto throughout Aquaman's oddly paced longer-than-average running time. For maximum viewing pleasure I recommend leaving your brain at the door! Despite the negatives, this film has heart and so would definitely watch a sequel if that ever happens.

Callmeyourkingsobeit: The Movie.

It's admittedly overlong because it's overstuffed with too many story-lines, and a long introductory opening sequence that could, and should, have easily been omitted; as there are many better-executed flashbacks which are more than enough. Add to this the fact that the aforementioned opening sequence is filled with cringe-inducing moments, including those which concern the romantic aspect, which is, in my opinion, the only silly thing that didn't work in the movie.

That said, the movie is packed with thrilling, kinetic, and meticulously designed and choreographed action set-pieces, in which you really can follow the action and the liberated fight sequences buoyed by raucous deluge of dazzling array of visual effects. Replicating underwater movement, and offering exotic creatures and characters' outfits that contrast the deep blue sea with splashes of bright colors, James Wan did a tremendous job creating an underwater world that's a visual feast that's consistently boasting a visual feast for the eyes. I enjoyed the out-of-water action sequences more, they are better and more masterfully designed than those that take place underwater; but nothing can compete with the stunning free-flowing underwater action scenes from the visual standpoint.

Aside from Furious 7, Wan's filmography is strictly horror related, having launched franchises in his own right with Saw and The Conjuring. Here we can see that he still uses his background in horror to deliver some moments that have shocking and surprising value, and they are quite effective.

It's not hard to tell that the entire cast and crew went all out. Their dedication does not go unnoticed. All the cast did their best to give a strong comeback, considering that most of them once had a quite promising and auspicious career. As for Jason Momoa, he really shines as the titular superhero. His physical appearance suits the badass character that the DCEU wanted to make from the get-go. He looks and fights as if he is a WWE superstar! Amber Heard is great, and the chemistry between her Indiana Jonesian character, Mera and Momoa's Aquaman is electric and gripping. They make an awesome dynamic duo, and their sugary cheerful relationship made up for the nauseating, saccharine romance of Tom Curry and Queen Atlanna.

The two villains have quite compelling background and convincing motives. And each one's sub-plot never overshadows the other's. Also, Patrick Wilson and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II are pretty good.

Aquaman is An Extremely Cool and Bad-ass Epic Fantasy Adventure of Cheesiness! It's decidedly a step in the right direction for DC. I still think Wonder Woman is the best movie in their extended universe, so far; but Aquaman is now my personal favorite.

All hail the true King, James Wan!

You are never wondering "what happens next." There is no tension, no drama. Everything goes exactly how you think it will. You are never laughing with it, only laughing at it. But it's not bad enough to be interesting, or real enough to be compelling. You catch on, about 20 minutes in, that Aquaman is 100% a cartoon. Everything has been illustrated - the underwater cities, the wet hair, the fish - from monster seahorses to prehistoric alligators - and the actors have just been partially inserted. So to go with this 99% CGI movie is a typical epic story for kids, with strangely adult violence. It's a standard hero's journey, find the artifact, fall in love with the princess, become the king story you've seen a hundred times. Then you stop wondering why Aquaman can lift a manned submarine from the depths to the surface without giving its crew the bends, because it's just a cartoon.

Which would be fine, but the worst part about Aquaman is that it's boring. It's two and a half hours long and it's boring. We've seen the hero's journey before, but how is this one different? It's not. It's just underwater. Underwater wrestling match in a coliseum. Underwater politics. Oh god, why did they introduce so much dumb politics? Underwater journey to the different kingdoms, underwater monsters, underwater lasers, underwater princess. The enemies all look like Sentai villains from Power Rangers. One bad guy wants revenge for Aquaman killing his father, which was, frankly, a dick move on Aquaman's part. The main bad guy wants revenge on the surface world for pollution and climate change, which was not that strongly debated by Aquaman. Aquaman just doesn't like bad guy. They just fight because, well, it's an action movie.

It boggles the mind, too, because this is just the Green Lantern movie all over again, except most people hated Green Lantern.

ThisA jeuvinile script that is filled with tropes and cliches and ingores continuity regularly. The movie is littered with very sketchy CGI surrounded by amazing CGI that just bring the former into high contrast and makes you wonder why. This is from the Michael Bay school of thought, where FX and CGI are supposed to carry the shortfalls in story and writing. I can only assume many reviewers were intoxicated or know someone that worked on this film. Their rationalization that people do not like it is due to a label, in this case Marvel, has anything to do with how well the movie entertains. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For a movie based mostly in the ocean depths, it was fairly shallow. I mean, how many iterations of The Lion King should a person have to watch in his/her lifetime?

Without exaggeration, every major advance in the film's plot was entirely predictable. The characters didn't even have the depth to diverge a micrometer from their archetypes. And who thought it was appropriate to put dinosaurs in this movie?

Jason Momoa isn't hard to watch onscreen. Unfortunately, his emotional acting is unconvincing and, since he had the most screentime, there was a lot of it. Thankfully he was supported by some solid performers who helped offset his lack of emotional depth. Still left a bad taste in my mouth. Momoa was cast as eye candy and we all know it.

The visual effects were... interesting. The underwater characters' undulating jellyfish hair was amusing, at least. I was never sure how exactly the Atlanteans propelled themselves through the water, unless they are to water what Superman is to air. I also wasn't sure how Aquaman could control some sealife but not others (Orm's steed, for instance). Cheap plot advancement, anyone? And don't get me started on the dinosaurs...

The dialog left much to be desired, nearing the quality of a high school drama club self-made production. At times I laughed out loud at the sheer absurdity of it. It was so stilted and abrupt that I couldn't help but wonder if someone bribed or otherwise relieved the proofreader of his job. It was definitely flirting with an underwater soap opera.

All things considered, the film isn't harmful to one's health and it's probably one of the best films put out by DC in recent years (WW is still top notch in my books). It is, however, a far cry from art. And how about those dinosaurs, eh?

Amazingly cool, fun and funny. Thank God DC gave up on their gritty view on superheroes trying to emulate the Nolan's Batman. I really enjoyed the action scenes as well as the story. Jason Momoa's Aquaman is the best

Great adventure like action, was hell of a roller coaster ride. Even though there isn't much to the story, it was certainly full of plot holes, but the movie wasnt meant to be taken too seriously. But noticeably is that Atlantis appears to be populated by white people only. The myth about Atlantis is that it was an island in the Mediterranean or the Southern part of the Atlantic ocean. That means it should be populated with a mix of Mediterranean or African people. And that means people with a darker skin and darker hair color. That wasn't the case in the entire movie. So I am afraid its yet again a bit of a white washed Hollywood depiction. In this case it's not the fault of Hollywood, most action hero comics are a bit white supremacists. Not trying to politicize the movie, but its worrisome that these kind of things are starting to get noticeable which influences the movie going experience and enjoyability.... Expand

Aquaman is the new hope of DC movies. CGI is the one of the best part of the movie. Apart from it, from a better origin story to a good character design and the last fight, movie is enjoyable.

The action is quite nice, but I am too old for movies which solely are based on action - except 80s and 90s movies, which still had good characters/actors at least. This movie is just wasted time.

It has high-stakes, a likable main protagonist and a villain you just want to slap. The movie follows "a hero's journey" to the letter and that's a good thing. The story is faithful to the source it is taken from. Jason Momoa is a great leed for this incarnation of the DC hero. Amber Heard is perfect for Mera. She is strong and witty without sacrificing her feminine charm. William Dafoe is well cast as the wise mentor Vulko. His devotion to Arthur is believable. Patrick Will's Ocean Master is a villain you just love to hate with pinch of sympathy. In general the cast is strong.

The hero is cocky and is not interested in the responsibility thrust upon him. After he is soundly humbled for his rash judgement he is insecure and has to face his destiny. A simple premise with good execution. Aquaman is a fin light-hearted adventure that will satisfy anyone looking a good time.

Slightly entertaining but extremely hard to watch. The CGI, script, and score are simply terrible. It looks and sounds like a low budget made for TV show. I couldn't take any of it seriously at all.

So when I found out that they were giving him a movie I was skeptical, not only because of the source material, but because BvS had just come out and the future of the DCEU was looking iffy. Then, they brought James Wan on board and things were starting to look up. Then Justice League happened and all hopes sort of vanished. Now the movie is out and what do I make of Aquaman? It’s the best DCEU movie in regards to its villains and action. While Wonder Woman still holds her place near the top, Aquaman has swum towards the surface and shows what happens when you let a filmmaker—who loves the comics—do what they please with a license. Aquaman is funny, heartfelt, and (censored) insane. Jason Momoa is perfect as a surfer bro, hardcore Aquaman. Amber Heard does a good job herself as Mera. Patrick Wilson does kill it as Ocean Master. Nicole Kidman is…Nicole Kidman—she’s good in everything, except Batman. Willem Dafoe, Dolph Lundgren, and Temuera Morrison all give their A-Game here and supply a good supporting cast. But who I felt stands out is Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, who does a phenomenal job and should be commended for his work. Same with James Wan who through his directing and story, has steered the DCEU towards the path that it needs to go to. The action is insane, intense, and has a surprisingly amount of one-shot long takes with little shaky cam, so you can definitely see everything. Props to the cinematographer for puling it off. The music is also good and serves the movie. The CG is where the movie might take a hit. Considering how much is needed, the effects can be shoddy at some points and could take you out of the movie. I didn’t mind it as I was invested the whole time. The movie does also suffer from a few pacing issues and jokes that don’t land. The story itself is a bit iffy and predictable at times, but it does get the job done as Aquaman is an example of taking a character—a ridiculous character—giving him heart, and having fun with the world that he lives in. And this movie is that, it’s fun. I want to watch it, then watch it again, because it has such a high volume of rewatch ability. Is it a 10/10? No. But what it does have is the torch that will lead the way towards a better DCEU future. And I cannot wait for the sequel. Also Marry Poppins voices a Kraken. Expand
