Despite all of the negative reviews I've read, I still found this film enjoyable. While it doesn't try as hard as the original movie to explain stuff with science, it makes up for it with better comedy.

One of the better MCU movies. Better than Black Panther, but not as good as either Infinity War or Thor: Ragnarok. Let's be real here. The only reason why you are watching this is for the post credit scenes.

To fully enjoy the movie you have to:
a) turn off your brain b) not question anything after watching the movie

If you'll do so, the score easily will be 7/10. But dare you ask anything like "why" the enjoyment of watching this movie drops.

By that I mean the principles and theories of the Quantum realm. Honestly, I couldn't understand how some things are related to the others, and how some actions can affect specific matters. Everything seemed messy and preposterous to me. The problem is neither about how scientifically wrong the bases of this world are, I mean it's a Sci-Fi movie, and there must be non realistic representations to a lot of things, nor it's because the explanations we got aren't convincing. But the problem is that there are almost no explanations, nor what happen make any sense. As a Science Fiction movie, Ant-Man and the Wasp is a total misfire. But what about it as a comedy?

The original play it safe, but managed to earn big laughs thanks to the exquisite visual humor, and smart jokes. This one really misses Edgar Wright's touch in the comedic aspect. There are some funny visual gags that landed very well, but they are way less inventive, and less smart than those of the first movie. Unfortunately, these silly jokes are neither hilarious to make me laugh out loud, nor they are plenty to make me forget about the other 70% of the humor that vary between cringe-inducing jokes and failed attempts to recycle some of the best jokes of the first Ant-Man movie, to other jokes that completely missed the mark because of the terrible comedic timing.

The story itself is small-scale, and the plot is very cohesive. That made the drama work pretty well, besides that the entire cast was amazing. Both Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly gave a wonderful charismatic performances, and they have an incredible chemistry between each other. This time we blissed to see glimpses of Michael Douglas's great acting abilities; he really shines in this sequel. Michael Peña is good, but his character, Luis, isn't funny at all this time unlike in the first movie. I also likes the character of Jimmy Woo, played by Randall Park, although the humor we got from him was hit-or-miss for me. The father/daughter relationship between Scott and Cassie is so warm and sweet. It's even better this time, and Abby Ryder Fortson is fantastic!

The action set-pieces aren't extraordinary, but they are truly fine, especially when it comes to the use of visual effects, which were spectacular, by the way. The final action sequence is the only one that is really impressive, which explains why it was used in fifty percent of every trailer for the movie. Unlike the poor illustration of the Quantum realm from the narrative standpoint, it was visually splendid in every sense of the word. From the creative depiction to the consistent use of colors, I was simply in awe of its look.

I don't want to mention anything about the villain, because I don't consider an evil character who do nothing but explains her motives and abilities through some flashbacks in one single monologue as a real villain! I didn't like Hannah John-Kamen's character as the beta villain in Ready Player One, and I hated her in this movie as Ghost I guess, or whatever. I don't put the blame on the actress, though.

Surprisingly, I found that all the main characters are three-dimensional and well-grounded. Their characteristics we knew from the original back in 2015 are established in this sequel, and therefore the characters became more developed.

Overall, I think Ant-Man and the Wasp is a step back from its predecessor, and one of the most disappointing movies for me this year. But most importantly, it's one of the weaker MCU efforts in the last few years, and this is not a good sign at all. Nevertheless, this sequel is by no mean a bad movie, and definitely a fun to watch popcorn flick as all other MCU entries.

Peyton Reed was with Upright Citizens Brigade improv, I believe. The BIG~tiny gags in the first film are expanded and improved on here. More similar to the free quality of Thor Ragnarok than to serious, tense, Dr. Strange or Avengers. Having grown up with the comics, this air of improv and freedom is more in line with the the best of the Marvel movies and comics. Leave the serious Wagnerian operas to BatMan. As Todd McCarthy in Hollywood Reporter review mentions, the script could do with more emotional weight and consequence (10%?).

I was simply delighted to see the villain-supervillian chores spread out across several characters, all of who kept me engaged.

Ant-Man and The Wasp is another charming and fun Marvel superhero movie.

Evangeline Lilly's Hope van Dyne appears as The Wasp, and makes a great duet with Paul Rudd's Scott Lang aka Ant-Man. Together they have to beat black market criminal Sonny Burch (who wants to steal Hank Pym's tech) and a mysterious enemy known as Ghost who can phase through matter. Michael Douglas returns as Hank Pym, and Michelle Pfeiffer debuts as Janet van Dyne, the original Wasp.

Similar to the first Ant-Man movie, this sequel is a comedy and a heist film. There is plenty of situational jokes based on Ant-Man's shifting size, and the director has made better and more inventive use of Hank Pym's shrinking technology, particularly in chase scenes.

Unfortunately the overall plot, while not bad per sé, is inconsequential to the wider MCU. The movie ends, the bad guys have been defeated, but nothing and no-one new of importance has been introduced. This movie's plot runs in parallel to Infinity War yet the characters aren't even aware that Thanos in on Earth battling the Avengers and has snapped his fingers. The mid-credits scene though is promising, as it hints at the possibility of Ant-Man becoming a very important character in the 4th Avengers film coming in 2019.

As a stand-alone film, Ant-Man and The Wasp is pretty fun. It just doesn't build on previous Marvel movies' lore, because Ant-Man is detached from other heroes.

Now I don't hate marvel but this year is not very good for marvel, except infinity war that was good, anyways black panther wasn't very good in my opinion. Now on to this film, this film's pacing is the biggest problem in my opinion, there's so much padding, where it tries to get the film to 2 hours. The film is forgettable, I don't really need to say much. The comedy is good I guess. The ending is cheesy and really dumb, I'm not gonna talk about it because you have to watch it yourself to believe it, I want to talk about it some more but it's so forgettable, I have a hard time choosing which I prefer between black panther and this. “You can do it. You can do anything. You're the world's greatest grandma”

‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ returns in full size form. So, after all the chaos and heartbreak with ‘Infinity War’, Marvel have stepped on the breaks and went back for a safe comedic tone. Basically being it’s own side story in this already big universe.

I enjoyed the first ‘Ant-Man’. Not great by any means and just like everyone else would have loved to see Edgar Wright's version. Reeking of re-writes and a clash of people working on the movie. However, to everyones surprise, was not a complete disaster due to it’s muddled production is unheard of.

The sequel, on the other hand, was...fine. There are plenty of entertaining and hilarious scenes, but nothing beyond that. To be honest, I liked the first a little better, because I can tell the leftover ideas from Wright or any visually cues were still present which kept the overall movie afloat. We also get to see Scott Lang becoming Ant-Man and trying out the suit and his abilities. It was creative and sweet with the father and daughter subplot.

Paul Rudd plays Paul Rud- oh sorry, I mean Scott Lang. Whoopsie daisy. But in all seriousness, I can’t see a character beyond Rudd. Never against him, as I like the actor and a joy to watch. I don’t understand why they dumb down his character, because while not a genius compared to other MCU characters, yet shown some intelligence in the first movie, especially when breaking into houses and impress Hank Pymm (Michael Douglas) so much he gave him the suit. Just to make the other characters look good, I guess? Still, I love Paul Rudd; he brings a goofy charm to his character, at least.

Evangeline Lilly has more to done this time, fighting wise, just without any development or depth for her character to be compelling. Basically ‘bad-ass girl who can beat you up” type of trope. Michael Douglas, another actor I love and respect, spouts out techno jargon that I don’t think he knows what it means. Michael Pena is great though and him telling stories are the best thing in these movies.

Walton Goggins and Michelle Pfeiffer are completely underused here, which is such a waste of talent. Marvel needs to stop underusing talent.

The action scenes were at least fun. The shrinking/growing involving different objects was always thrilling to watch. A little overexposed in the trailers, yet never stopped me from enjoying what’s on screen. Although nothing compares to the battle sequence in the first movie where the whole final act was in a little girls bedroom with a toy train set. Thomas the Tank Engine was added to the mix. I can’t think of any blockbuster that has ended like that. Completely ridiculous, yet refreshing.

Peyton Reed, best known for comedy movies, did the best he could for something not so familiar to him.

Now the character of Ghost, which I thought was the main villain, but when her back story is relieved, not so much. I mean, She had so much potential for greatness if the script did the actress justice, because Hannah John-Kamen was putting her heart and soul into this. A real shame. When reflecting back, her main goal could have been achieved if she asked nicely for help.

I don’t hate the movie, due to the heavy criticism throughout this review. Nothing epic in scale, but the likable cast and action stops it from feeling ant size small. It should keep fans happy until the next installment.

Overall rating: DAMN TRUTH SERUM!

Being the first Marvel film to follow on from Infinity War was always going to have big shoes to fill, but I feel that Ant-Man and the Wasp not only did that but shrunk them down and wore them proudly.

Tonally it is obviously bounds apart from Infinity War. The Ant-Man films seem to be setting an atmosphere for things happening on the small scale. Also so never really taking itself too seriously, you tend to really start falling for the characters. There wasn't a single character I disliked during the films run time. Even the villains had a great level of charm to them that just made them that much more likable. With the budget behind it, Marvel have crafted a visually satisfying. The flow during action pieces from shrinking low, to hitting it big is on point. Having watched it twice now I was worried on the second watch through that it would drag in certain points, but the film just has such a good sense of pace, that it seemed to actually go by quicker on the second viewing.

There are some plot holes, but that's not necessarily to do with the film, but the MCU as a whole and the timeline it's running on. Not really a spoiler but the film is set during the events of Infinity War, so it does make you raise an eye brow as to why Scott wasn't with the Avengers. My verdict, if you're looking for a fun and entertaining family film then Ant-Man and the Wasp has hit pretty much every nail on the head. If you're looking for something as hard hitting as Infinity War, then sadly I think you'll have to give this one a miss and just wait for Infinity War Part 2.

I haven't seen the first Ant-Man movie since it was in the theaters. I liked it, kind of, but I will admit it is one of the weakest films of the MCU cannon and maybe when I re-watch it I'll like it less. But regardless of that...yeah this one is just really bleh honestly. It's surprisingly watchable, but overall I'd say it's up there with Age of Ultron and the second Thor movie as the worst of the MCU. Not exactly terrible, but definitely mediocre.

The acting overall is hit or miss. Paul Rudd is alright as Ant-Man, kind of wonky in parts, but overall passable. Evangeline Lilly is pretty good here, even though Hope is basically the "bland heroine" stereotype (which somehow is a reoccurring thing for Lilly given the Hobbit films). Rudd and Lilly do have decent chemistry, not great, kind of over-praised by critics on that end, but definitely elevate their nothing romance. Michael Douglass is bleh here, Hannah John-Kamen tries here but she's not that great, Abby Ryder Forston is alright for child acting, definitely tolerable, Laurence Fishburne underacts here, which is kind of surprising, Walton Goggins is alright here but I'm too distracted by him looking like a rugged Chip Esten, Michael Pena...look I like him as an actor, but he gets nothing here in terms of comedy here, a few laughs but not much, although it is more than I can say from Randall Park, who just gets nothing from me.

One of the things that I liked a lot from the first Ant-Man is the action scenes and the use of the suit is a major highlight for the first film. It was fun to watch and felt like nothing I've seen before in a movie. Here, the acting just felt stale. Not exactly terrible but not much fun was had, outside of the car chase scene in the third act which was genuinely fun. It honestly felt like director Peyton Reed and company didn't really try when doing the action scenes, even though there are loads of opportunity to make a ton of fun action scenes, especially for the Wasp! And as per usual with a lot of the MCU films that aren't helped by James Gunn (FWI Disney needs to grow a pair and not fire people for bad jokes. Yes I am defending Rosanne get off my case!), the cinematography and shot composition is just bland and lifeless, feeling more like a lame comedy movie. Speaking of comedy, it's largely safe, bland, and miss. There are some chuckles and laughs from me, but overall the comedy felt like it was meant to appease test audiences.

The writing was surprising with how bad it is. I say surprising because while the first Ant-Man had a super bland story, there was at least an attempt at writing characters where Scott Lang was going through a redemption ark. Here no one gets developed, they are all cardboard cut out and flat as hell. Scott Lang feels more like a nothing character and more like a fill in for Paul Rudd to be in the MCU. Hank Pym probably had a story ark but the writers made no effort in developing him. Hope is just a bland heroine. And the villains are not very good either. Keyword being villains, because this movie is padded with unnecessary bad guys! Ghost's motivation at least made sense, which is a step above the generic rich **** that was Corey Stull's character in the first film, however they botch it up because Ghost is an irrational person who does dumb things even though it could have ended if she just stopped and heard someone out for once! Sonny was completely worthless and practically pointless in this film. It legitimately gave me flashbacks to Sam Rockwell's character in Iron Man 2, but at least Sam Rockwell elevated that role honestly! Jimmy Woo, while not a bad guy and more of a monkey wrench, also felt practically pointless too and unnecessary conflict as well other than reminding the audience of the stupid accords from Civil War that was brushed aside in Infinity War. And speaking of forced conflicts, if people would have just talked things out so much of the conflicts would have changed everything! Why didn't Hank and Hope just waited the THREE DAYS Steve had of his house arrest is beyond me! So many of these characters act like idiots here!

I should be more harsher than I am because there are some funny moments here and there and the third act is legitimately entertaining, but overall just a lazy sequel to an already average film. The only reason this movie would work is because it's part of the MCU, but even some of the weaker films are more enjoyable than this really. Skip it unless you are a completionist.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie had me a bit worried at first. It didn't seem like anything groundbreaking at first. Just a sequal no one saw coming. The mix of villians will make the story harder to follow, but manages to make the movie even more exciting than it should be. The first credits scene was really good, ending on a cliffhanger that makes me beg for Infinity War part 2 to come sooner. The second one is really disappointing and not worth it if you ask me. Final thoughts? Great movie anyone can enjoy. Expand

The action sequences between Ghost and Ant-Man and the Wasp were so good, so well choreographed. The acting doesn't disappoint and i'm glad they gave Luis more piece of the action. It knows it's a comic book movie, and it treats itself like one.

Unfortunately the plot falls a bit flat, i didn't really see the need for the Sonny Burch character, that really felt like an unnecessary sub-plot in the end. Which kinda dragged down the movie.

You can sympathize with the villain, she just doesn't want to die, which most people can relate to. But i wish they would have deepen the relationship between Ghost and Foster, would have made for a much better movie.

End of the day it is a very entertaining and funny movie, and that's all i expected from Ant-Man and The Wasp, so i was far from disappointed

For those of you who are still traumatized from Infinity War and need something to ease the pain then enjoy Ant-Man and the Wasp.
Ant-Man is back, only this time he's got a partner. Not up there with Marvel's best, and it's not quite as good as the first Ant-Man. Sure you might start to forget it as soon as you leave the cinema lobby but it's entertaining and enjoyable in the moment. Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) is suffering the consequences from his actions in Civil War. Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) show up, needing his help for an urgent mission.

It's got all the charm of the first Ant-Man but more quantum this and quantum that. Honestly the first half of the movie is a little bland, all the setup eventually pays off but the story felt way too dragged out. Paul Rudd is doing his thing, Michael Peña doing his thing and although not all the jokes land there's enough action to keep you interested. It's fun because it doesn't feature a life threatening city destroying CGI mess of a villain for the last 20 minutes. I loved the miniature car chases, and I loved the addition of The Wasp. Evangeline Lilly holds her own and could have been used a little more to be honest. It's not just Ant-Man, it's Ant-Man and the Wasp. Entertaining in the moment and recommended for the marvel fans.

This movie is good but...
Why does ant-man need a sequel?
That's liking giving doctor strange a sequel, it doesn't really need one in my opinion.

It feels more like a side-quest and/or spin-off film, at least compared to other solo movies from; 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' (2014) to 'Black Panther' (2018). The movie very much takes place after the events of 'Captain America: Civil War' (2016) where Scott Lang (a very likeable and charming Paul Rudd) is under house arrest, with an ankle bracelet provided by the government so they can keep a close eye on him. He tries to be a good father to his daughter, but his actions in Berlin, where he helped "The Captain" break more than 100 laws can make living a quiet life, not that quiet. Meanwhile, Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and his daughter, Hope (Evangeline Lily) are speculating about creating a piece of technology to safely transport them to the Quantum Realm, where they are hoping to find Hope's mother, Janet (Michelle Pfeiffer), after she shrunk herself almost 30 years ago, and was presumed dead. But, they are not giving up. To keep it short, this is mostly a fun superhero flick. It is definitely the perfect "antidote" for MCU fans after 'Avengers: Infinity War' (2018) being too "dour", "depressing" and just "dark". This will - without a doubt - put a smile on your face, and you can sit back and relax and just watch the crazy action scenes involving a lot of surprising creativity with people and objects growing and shrinking. Lily taking on the mantle of The Wasp and teaming up with Scott's Ant-Man definitely works, Rudd and Lily's chemistry adds a lot to this film. The action, especially one chase scene, is exhilarating and a joy to watch. The biggest downside to this film is its villains (yes, there's more than one). Considering we had Killmonger in 'Black Panther' (2018) and the great Thanos in 'Avengers: Infinity War' (2018), Marvel was stepping up their villain game, something they had trouble with in the past. The villains here are rather forgettable. One of them, in particular, seems unnecessary to the entire story, but what can you do?

All in all, this is Marvel, once again, going back to their fun roots. 'Black Panther' (2018) took things too seriously, and 'Avengers: Infinity War' (2018) set us on a dark path. The creative action, and the humor-filled chemistry between Rudd and Lily will definitely make this one worth-watching.

The Whole premise is Janet Van Dym Hank Pym's wife is trying to get saved from the Quantam while AntMan is underhouse arrest. The story was simple enough and built
Around it which is why it was so good. The first act was a tad slow but not boring is it set up where the characters are and had some fun action especially with the introduction of the Wasp. The second act was a kind of boring with the pace diping and nothing exciting happening. The third act picked up the pace and the chunk of the action was in the last 30 minutes so that was my favorite part. The villain or antagonist of the movie Ghost wasn't bad but not really that interesting she has a reason to be there but didn't add anything significant with the plot expect for fancy powers which made for good effects.Michael Douglas' performance amd Pual Rudd were the best characters in the movie as they were serious when needed to be and funny when needed to be.The Wasp as I said was cool with as a good enough performance from lilly.Michelle Pfeiffer did well in the role she was given and had good chemistry in the scenes she had with Michael Douglas.
Antman and the Wasp was funnier than the first one but of course its Marvel but It had some out of place humor that took away from the serious moments but of course again its Marvel. This had more action as well but mainly in the last 40 minutes or so because as I said the second act was mostly slow and kind of dragged on.
So what to take away from all of this is that Antman and the wasp is similar to Back to the Future its funny, has a story with a heart and just a plain fun blockbuster.

But luckily,Ant-Man And The Wasp not only surpasses the first one in basically everything (even the music),but manages to be a delirious time at the movies while still being a Marvel movie that follows the MCU's Path, with an ending that will destroy everyone feeling-wise.
Now,when I said it surpasses the first movie,it DOES improve everything and anything. (Like when you notice some errors in a Videogame Beta and the creators actually listen instead of downgrading everything) The Comedy has gotten a bit more creative (and funny) and it's impressive to look at. Oh,and of course Luis (played by Michael Peña) stole the show. Same thing for the Action (especially if you see this in IMAX 3D). As someone who has never seen the first one in 3D,this may be some of the best 3D I've seen in my life. Not only that, but the story has gotten a bit more fluid, whereas in the first Ant-Man it was a good time with a (kind of) disjointed story. The villain has also been improved. Instead of a dude in a much more powerful suit,we have a femme fatale who can “walk through walls and stuff” while having an interesting moral at the same time (like Killmonger).
Overall...wow… this must be really boring to not see any flaws in a Marvel movie (kind of, there's one I can't get into because Spoilers, although I can say it's about the Timeline),but at the same time,it must be surprising. The movie was a blast in the end and,for curiosity,as a sequel, makes it for one of Marvel’s more creative franchises that the studio should be proud of.

He still has the suit and everything,Ant-Man and the Wasp picks up after Captain America: Civil War, and basically Scott isn't doing Ant-Man stuff anymore because he's under house arrest for two years due to his part in the airport fight. He still has the suit and everything, but his days are primarily spent entertaining his daughter and helping Luis with their security company. Eventually, he has a vision of Dr. Pym's wife and he calls him, which results in Hope (the Wasp) knocking him out and bringing him to their lab because they want to rescue Mrs. Pym from the quantum realm. He then eventually gets back into the Ant-Man suit and that's where the film really kicks off. I found the story of this film to be completely and utterly okay. I was entertained. However, I think that this is one of the weakest Marvel stories that has been portrayed on the big screen since perhaps the first Ant-Man. Take Paul Rudd's humor out (which I really do enjoy) and this story is frankly kind of....meh. Our heroes spend a fairly large portion of the film trying to obtain a part of technology necessary to their mission, and then finding a spot to set up the lab and complete the mission, but the villain gives them some trouble along the way. The villain, while somewhat relatable, is once again weak and the other "bad guy" portrayed by Walton Goggins is about as cookie cutter as it gets. There's never really a sense of danger. The villains seem more like annoyances that the heroes have to deal with, and it's always known that they will complete their mission by the end of the story. I can respect that this film does seem fairly self-contained apart from the after-credits scene that ties it in to Avengers: Infinity War, but that doesn't take away from the fact that it's just an okay story. Characters: I do really like the character of Scott Lang. His humor is very wholesome and genuine, and he is one of the more relatable heroes in the current MCU. Hope is also a solid partner for him both on missions as the Wasp and otherwise. Also, while a lot of people seem to really like Luis (Michael Pena), I can't stand him. I find him entirely unfunny, and every time he took control of a scene I was just waiting for him to be off screen. Overall: I had a good time watching Ant-Man and the Wasp. It provided what I have come to expect from Marvel films: entertainment. Is it fairly typical? Yeah. Will it go down as one of my favorite Marvel films? Nah. Expand

I went to watch this, because of the generally favourable reviews. Boy was I in for a great disappointment. This doesn't feel like a good Marvel film. It's all mindless action from beginning to the end. Chasing after the miniature of the lab building like a game of soccer. It's so bad that it feels like a 90s grade B movie, eg a little like 'Spy Kids', all actions and no depth.

I do like some of the lines which are genuinely funny and natural. A few lines are rather cheesy. Character development is close to none, meaning you get stereotyped characters which feels like they are only there to fill the roles. It's a very bad thing if you watch a movie and don't feel inclined to care about its characters, unlike the Avengers series. The villains are especially boring and seriously under developed.

I wished I have never gone to watch this.

It's not bad but the film doesn't offer any surprise.
I think it's the first sequel of the MCU since Iron Man 2 that doesn't feel different from its predecessor.

If you're already inside the world of the MCU obviously you will continue there, otherwise I don't know how a casual viewer can enjoy something that it will not understand at all.

The movie fulfills with the entertainment and the quality of Marvel is still there, but it's only that. There is nothing more worth mentioning, except the mid-credits scene that connects directly with the events of Avengers: Infinity War.

This sequel is directed by Peyton Reed wich also directed the first one.
After Scott Lang comeback of the quantum realm, until then impossible, Hope, Scott and Hank Pym, will trie to pull out Janet, the original wasp, from there. To do it so, they will need to get some equipments, face some trouble caused by old situations, and deal with other people that want their stuff. All of that while Scott still is trying to trick the cops and take care of his daughter.
This movie is meant to be fun with zero deepening in the subjects that he stands in, if you are looking for something that is deep and goes beyond the marvel standard this isn't for you, but if you want a fun movie that will not make you think much and have a good time, this may be perfect. It's a lightweight movie, that you can watch, have a deep breath and relax with some fun moments and some fun characters and a simple story.
The actresses and actors are a high point, they are all so cool and fun. Evangeline Lilly is very fun and have great expressions, you totally buy her in the action scenes, she did a really nice job being able to pass emotions and peculiar moments while with Paul, being distrustful but at the same time testing. Paul Rudd isn't very different, he don't have big expressions as Evangeline, but in other hand he have a great comical timing and really pass the nice guy idea, he is also very fun. Michael Douglas was the most serious good guy in the movie but at the same he had to intertwine it with comic moments, he also were able to express emotions in determinated moments. Michelle Pfeiffer had really little time in the movie, i don't think she could pass much emotions as it was suposed to, but considering the movie tone, it was very functional. Michael Peña really deserves a light because he had one job in this movie, make us laugh, and he did it well.
The action scenes are creative, but not that much, i mean, the situation with the size of objects, cars, the increasing and decreasing the size of the things and people is what make the difference here, it is a kind of power that we don't see in other movies with any frequency, so it is not just cool but different as well, but at the same time you feel that it could be better.
The relationship between Scott and Hope is another big point here, the two actors definely have some chemistry wich make the conversations and atittudes among them be not just natural, but pretty.
I get that the point of the movie never was to be deep or explain anything, but i believe that they could have sacrifice some fbi invading Scott's house time, wich happens a lot, to show more and make us feel more about the quantum realm, the quantum realm is what they are talking about the whole movie and what the plot is about, and when they finally reach there, it is beautiful, but it is so fast and don't show almos anything. Janet was there for many and many years, she says that she is changed, but they gave no clue about how she survived there for so long, how that place works, what possibilities it give, considering that the movie is about that place, i really expected them to develop more. The story of the movie doesn't try to surprise us any time, it is very predictable, and it does have some questionable things that may be considered as plot holes. The Ghost character is good, it does have a very clear motivation wich make total sense. The movie also have way to many subplots, every character have a little arc and that may have make the movie get a little swollen. One pretty good thing of the movie is the relationship between the characters, so as the Scott and his daughter, that is formidable. One thing that i found really good here, is the dimension of the story, i like to say that not all super hero movies need to save the world like a lot of them does, this one it is good in this sense, it is just a rescue and assault movie.
The visual effects work in the majority of the movie, in some moments the green screen got to obvious wich bothered me, the Ghost effects i found pretty cool, not just her moviment but that combined with the voice altered really gave a badass looking character. The effects of the the increasing and decreasing the size were pretty good.
The movie is fun, definely give some nice laughs, the action is good, the movie is very episodical and doesn't present nothing new, it was made intended to be just a little adventure with some fun and a family junction. Definely a not very memorable one.

While it may not have as much humor or originality as its predecessor (an unfortunate side-effect of sequels in general), Marvel Studios' "Ant Man and the Wasp" is sure to entertain both fans of the MCU and newcomers alike.

The humor is spot on, the cast is magnificent and the special effects are literally out of this world. I went in expecting more of the same and left entertained and happy. Overall this was a much more fulfilling and cohesive story than the first Ant-Man film and for that, I liked it even more. Sure the villain was a little one dimensional as a character but we cant always have a major threat in every film. Sometimes, they need to be personal. Along with GOTG, the comedy-visual effect combo brings some fresh air in a universe filled with IronMan/Cpt America/Thor predictable arcs. The cast works great together and the story finds its way explaining some things about Quantum Realm's history and introducing new interesting action scenes. Dont worry if at the end you feel like you miss some action sequences from our main hero. I think he's going to deal with bigger things in IW2 next year. The MCU is safe with characters like Ant-Man and The Wasp. Expand

That means some enjoyable laffs and more chat than is needed for action films. When there is action, the miniature effects are fun and the sequences clip along at a snappy pace. Without Rudd’s charm the movie would have “little” appeal." These are not the typical superhero saving-the-world exploits, but personal quests with more interactions and more humor. Still, it's entertaining and fun. Its worse than the original Ant-man which at least had a coherent story and was made with enough care given its development troubles with Edgar Wright. Peyton Reed shows his limitations in this film where the plot doesn't really matter, the characters dont really have any arcs (or if there are any, its literally the same as the first film). There nothing really to say except its a paint by number Marvel formulaic film meaning: jokes every 2 minutes, convoluted plot, borderline terrible generic CGI, characters that are charming but lack any emotional heft, dumb villains and character you will quickly forget and a wooden plot you can probably write better in an hour. Again, there some good action, some good lines and yeah the same stuff. AMATW doesn't add anything to the ongoing Marvel storyline, in fact you just need to see the end-credit scene for any sort of narrative weight to matter. I wish we could go back to the OG marvel films like Iron Man, Captain America:First Avenger or even Civil War where the films had a good narrative, character interactions and well-made scenes. It seems a long time ago now that those films actually felt like films. Now they all feel like **** episodes of a generic TV show. If Marvel continues this trend, it will be the law of diminishing returns. Expand

The first Ant-Man had some Great visuals, especially when Scott first pressed that button & got Ant sized (followed by flood in the bath-tub :P) was just Epic. The tech has grown since then & now we have medium sized Ant-Man. (Nope, this not Spoiler, Yo)

So, the story isn’t goin’ as it should but you can have your Fun moments here & there. It revolves Just around that tuckin’ “Briefcase” which got “Antized” by Hank in the trailer. :D :P It could’ve been better, Feige.

Well, think of it this way: we’re focused right now on one of those films that utilizes the actors’ blocking to signify sexual tension in a dumb way that leaves nothing to the imagination. Likewise, no true written or directed coordination puts anything at stake here, its excessive jokes left to treat ants more humane than any actual humans on screen. Maybe if the humans’ motivations were realistic, then these absurd circumstances could turn somewhat believable?

Here are some examples. The foul script particularly turns Hope’s (the Wasp) father, Hank, into a dislikable boss who throws everything beneath his feet without compassionate support, serving a small part of bland stereotypes. Another part of those stereotypes includes the FBI worker who suddenly searches Scott’s (Ant-Man) home, resembling an evasive insect as opposed to a legitimate character. The same describes the leads: while Hope does get to kick butt, she later becomes nothing beyond a slightly sex’d down love interest to the male lead. Thus, you’ll get the feel of mental pests plaguing your brain nerves, ants sent through your eyeballs to break apart your cerebrum for nest eggs.

So what does Ant-Man and the Wasp succeed at? Well, one early scene shows Scott entertaining his daughter Cassie in a cardboard recreation of his previous adventure, alongside his magic tricks that keep up its own consistent story arc. Yes, the father-daughter instances satisfy enough to make you want to see these two together, especially once spur-of-the-moment FBI searches interrupt their time together. To further sentimentalize the personal touches, he nicknames her, “Peanut,” much like how Hope’s parents call her “Jellybean,” and Cassie calls her dad, “World’s Greatest Grandma.” Besides the main families, the key villain, Ava (or “Ghost“), whose cells suffer molecular disequilibrium, connects to heartbreaking results with her adopted dad.

Of course, being a Marvel property, you should expect laughs aplenty; memorable gags turn small things giant and vice versa, chuckles a guarantee when Scott gets stuck to half his size in an elementary school. Michael Peña (American Hustle, Crash) delivers some nice rapid-fire comedy too during his funny narration on truth serum. Plus, Peyton Reed’s (Ant-Man) direction meets expectations based on how he utilizes the Wasp’s powers to memorable results against bad guys. Then inside the quantum realm, colossal tardigrades lunge toward you, creating a surreal environment Michelle Pfeiffer’s (Dangerous Liaisons, The Fabulous Baker Boys) acceptable portrayal complements satisfactorily. Yet let me say: she looks ridiculously young! Not a wrinkle anywhere! Do they have an anti-aging salon in the quantum realm because she looks just like one of those formerly famous Hollywood actresses who’s trying to hard to stay relevant! Oh wait…

I know you hate it when I trash on Marvel, but it still fails to be art because of how much a lazy corporate product it is. Marvel may be tremendous at the whole marketing strategy, yet its familiar shiny flaw-free world comes off inauthentic under its excessive, random pop culture references. Not to mention it will not make this film age well, considering the products of the cinematic universe will last far longer than the company’s profits. These producers trying to make stuff cool takes priority over practicality, forcing chuckles from scientifically educated viewers by the carelessness of how the science talk is treated. Heck, a shrunken car matches the speed of regular sized ones for crying out loud! So even though slight emotional doses ground the viewer’s optimism, the willful suspension of disbelief runs way off track.

Yeah, I understand, I must avoid overthinking a summer popcorn movie, except the nauseous editing by Dan Lebental (Ant-Man, Iron Man) and Craig Wood (Guardians of the Galaxy, Pirates of the Caribbean) ramble on lame humor rather than slowing down to linger on the pain. It’s not enjoyable when desires inappropriately go to quick plot point progression, the only hint of deceleration present when slow-motion knives are thrown.

It appears even the performers themselves didn’t want to get to know their roles well. Instead of acting jittery, Paul Rudd causes serious discomfort as Michael Douglas’ (Fatal Attraction, Wall Street) weak motivation spurts out unintentionally funny angry outbursts towards his colleagues. Worst above all, not one single believable relationship holds up the entire feature, that includes the necessary fear of a family crisis built between Ant-Man and Ava.

But good news! You have need to set sail through Marvel’s shipwrecked celebration of American pride. It’s summer for crying out loud, ride a bike! Enjoy the sun!

The Ghost character and storyline is completely unecessary and the forced conflict between Scott and the gang at the beginning really doesn't make sense. Wasp is underwritten and dull considering Lillys talents. It was ok, I would still have purchased a ticket - but it did not have the vibrancy and drive of the first film. Luckily the scenes with Rudd and his family and Luis continue to connect. It doesnt have the humour of Ragnarok, the character of Guardians or the heart of Cap Amer - its just sort of the bland, slightly funny middle. Seems more like missed opportunity. Expand

In my opinion not the best film in the Marvel Franchise but definitely an overall good movie. Ant-man & the wasp had the same fun light hearted tone of the first film, which was a nice change of pace after the more serious toned entries of some of the previous marvel films. Paul Rudd was just as charismatic as he always is, and Evangeline Lilly as the Wasp was more of a true partner then a side character this time around. I enjoyed both newcomers, Laurence Fishburne and Hannah John-Kaman. They both good performances, though I felt like their screen time was too short to really develop their characters. Each year since Phase 3 began, Disney and Marvel Studios have been releasing three movies per year. That may seem like an overload, but each film has come to feel like a fresh and unique take on a similar story. The last of 2018’s Marvel movies, Ant-Man and The Wasp, also offers its own signature take on humor and action to move the typical storyline forward. That storyline is to defeat bad guys who are chasing what the good guys are chasing, but there are definitely different elements added to the story that set this film apart. Overall, I enjoyed this movie and wish to watch it again. Now, I am going to elaborate on this.

I like to begin with the negative aspects of a movie because a positive view on life is to view the good in everything in the end. I have also been superstitious for many years, with one aspect of superstition being that I believe that the best is always saved for last. With this viewpoint established, I will say that the movie does begin quite slow and doesn’t have the greatest initial buildup. This isn’t to say that I don’t like slow films; many award-winning movies are slow, and even Star Wars films are slow. However, there is a purpose to a movie having a slower pacing if there is something that it is building up to. I did not feel that the information provided to us as the audience was valid enough for this movie to feel boring. To me, the main villain wasn’t that interesting as a character, and the secondary villain was not villainous enough. The motives for the latter was a very generic corporate money-driven motive. At least Ghost, the main villain (not a spoiler, since she’s featured in the trailers) has a reasoning for wanting what our heroes want. In fact, it is more of a need. Fortunately, slow pacing in the beginning of the movie is the last of the problems, as things just get better.

First, I would like to recognize the great Paul Rudd for bringing a quirky and charming humor to his character of Ant-Man that makes him a unique MCU villain. He is certainly more entertaining than boring ol’ Captain America, and I would definitely prefer his character over T’Challa (The Black Panther), who lacks interesting qualities. Along with Ant-Man himself, the rest of the main cast does a great job making this movie feel unique in its approach to generating laughs. It is more awkward, random, and situational humor that elaborates on it’s random jokes until another character has to get everyone back on board. If you remember the first movie, you’ll remember that Scott Lang’s friend Luis (Michael Peña) has a fantastic way of retelling a story and how everything happened that led to the present moment in time. He uses this storytelling method once again, but this time it lasts longer and is even more humorous than before. For me, the comedy of the movie was its main draw for me to watch it again, just as it had been for the first film.

What also sets apart Ant-Man and The Wasp from other Marvel movies was its different kind of action. Generally, action movies have the same kind of action that includes punches, explosions, and chases. Many MCU movies also have this kind of action. A few exceptions include the emphasis on hand-to-hand combat in Captain America films, spaceship-driven action in the Guardians of the Galaxy films (my favorite MCU series), and trippy wizardry in Doctor Strange. Ant-Man films have their own approach to action in that they constantly involve shrinking. It’s so much fun to see regular real-world environments from a microscopic perspective. The chase scenes with vehicles turning small and regular sized, The Wasp’s flight while using shrinking, and the Quantum Realm were delightful to watch. Its crazy that this movie’s visuals were so much better than Black Panther visuals even when work with $38 million less (budget of $162 million compared to $200 million). No other action movie can boast action sequences as unique and fun as in the Ant-Man movies, and it is even better the second time.

After watching the movie, I completely forgot about the generic plot and mostly uninteresting villains because I had a great time. The humor and action sequences along with Paul Rudd’s great starring turn as our hero made this Marvel movie a great watch. Unfortunately, the plot and slow pacing in the beginning of the movie can’t make this movie worth buying on Blu-Ray. However, it is certainly worth spending $12 for a theatre ticket and $2 for RedBox. Since Disney and Netflix have an agreement, it will eventually appear for streaming. When it does, I say make the most of its availability and watch it a few times.

Overall, I would bestow Ant-Man and The Wasp a solid 8.25/10.

The Bad:

This movie has a moderate case of sequelitis - some of the jokes in the middle 3rd of the movie miss their mark. I hate that feeling in a movie theater when the writers clearly thought they had a gem of a gag and the audience stays silent. Cringe-worthy!

Stuffed-In Bad Guy: There's generic corrupt corporate bad-guy named Sonny Burch who apparently was in Iron Man III but did not achieve much of an impact in that movie either because I can't even remember him. The actor was fine, but the character wasn't necessary.

The Good:
The best character was Hope Pym(Wasp)- she was a total bad-ass, quite the opposite of fumbling and bumbling Scott Lang, who we love seeing grope his way blindly through life and his action scenes. The Wasp probably laid out more fodder than Captain America in his first movie. In addition her relationship with her dad was much improved, and it was nice to see that carried through from the end of the last film. The seemed like a real family.

Ghost: I want to see this character again; she was something I was not prepared to process. Her backstory is compelling and Hannah Johm Kamen nails it to perfection. I thought about Ghost more than any other character after I left the theater. Love the effects on her as well as her impressive array of powers.

Humor: Although I dissed this aspect of the movie above, overall the writing was above average. There are some truly memorable funny moments as well as a few duds. The good outweighs the bad here.

Lawrence Fishburn: Great to see one of my favorite actors rocking the Goliath character. Unlike many add-on characters to sequels I felt that he wasn't just made up to plug a hole in a script.

The Kid: Wow, how do I hate cute kids in action movies. But for some reason this kid isn't annoying - in fact she's naturally cute and funny. Perhaps it's because she doesn't act sassy and say adult lines which are developmentally unrealistic from a psychological perspective. Her lines are what a kid her age might actually say.

Randall Park as Jimmy Woo: Another terrific addition to the cast, Officer Woo had some of the funniest lines in the film. I'd love to see this guy again in other MCU movies. He sucks at cards though...

The Action - Especially the End Sequence: The effects are spectacular, the editing is spot on, and I couldn't find any major plot holes with how everything turned out.

Fan Boy Cred: I spent a large portion of my childhood actually reading the comics these characters are based on and I've romanticized it in my head for decades. To me, this film - along with many of the other higher quality MCU films - honored the source material.

Ghost had the look of a cool villain but she was a step down from Killmonger and Thanos as she didn't really feel like a villain as much as she did a sympathetic anti-hero. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I actually really liked it. However, I think it is a great example of male oppression and toxic meritocracy. Paul Rudd's character is talked down to the whole movie. This supposed inferiority is due to his being labelled a, "criminal," and sentanced to jail time for righting a wrong committed by a former employer. His further, "wrong doing," SPOILER ALERT was going to join the fight in Civil War, without letting his girlfriend know.

While I can see why should would be upset, it doesn't seem worthy of this sort of total rejection of him. For some reason anytime his character does anything anyone questions he is treated as the total failure and f***up, supposedly because of his prior, "criminal," act. However, all of his actions were in essence heroic. He is a clearly loving, engaged, and arguably ethically ideal role model to his daughter, and always makes the right heroic choices in his film. Still he is treated as less-than.

To me it is sad that this sort of treatment goes unquestioned in our society. It seems to reflect the truth that father's are generally treated as comedic relief in pop culture and scapegoats.

While men headline Marvel movies, for the most part they are emblematic of problems that are at least equal to women in fiction if not worse for the fact they go unrecognized. It is sad that often times people laugh at the concept of a Men's Movement or the need to examine gender norms and expectations as applied to men in our country. It is fairly obvious that our culture has a tremendous problem with, "men."

The visuals were stunning and the action sequences were insanely well-crafted. The major let down of the film is the villain though and that was pretty disappointing. However, I would still say Ant-Man and the Wasp is definitely one of the better Marvel movies. Expand

TOO MUCH MAKEUP! really should be a 6. a very nice movie up until the end, when Michael Douglas finds his wife floating around the quantum zone and she, for some reason, has way too much makeup on. an actress with too much ego? made the end very anti climatic. an enjoyable movie, except for the makeup. A worthy follow up to the original that maintains everything that was great about its predecessor and improves upon a few things, such as the villian. Fans of the original and marvel movies in general should definetely go see it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Entertaining but unfortunately some predictable moments because of commercial spoilers. I wish they'd refrain from putting too much out there before the movies are released. The chemistry of the characters seems to flow. The after-credits scene helped for those that follow the MCU timeline and wonder where this movie falls in line. For those that missed Infinity War...they're going to be confused. I would have liked to see more of the background of the Ghost. My only issue is I have difficulty with the "suspension of disbelief" with regards to no one realizing that buildings and cars are popping up out of nowhere. Expand

No perdáis el tiempo. Ant-Man 2 es basura. La primera es mucho mejor, esta secuela ofrece una trama barata y unos villanos insulsos. Todo el protagonismo recae en Evangeline Lilly. El resto sobra.
