I went to watch this, because of the generally favourable reviews. Boy was I in for a great disappointment. This doesn't feel like a good Marvel film. It's all mindless action from beginning to the end. Chasing after the miniature of the lab building like a game of soccer. It's so bad that it feels like a 90s grade B movie, eg a little like 'Spy Kids', all actions and no depth.

I do like some of the lines which are genuinely funny and natural. A few lines are rather cheesy. Character development is close to none, meaning you get stereotyped characters which feels like they are only there to fill the roles. It's a very bad thing if you watch a movie and don't feel inclined to care about its characters, unlike the Avengers series. The villains are especially boring and seriously under developed.

I wished I have never gone to watch this.

And the wasp pretty much stole the show. Ant-man didn't really do anything in the film, and the wasp do everything. The villain looks like a character from Destiny and she can literally just talk to Hank and Hope to figure out a way with her issues instead of fighting them. And about two third of the movie's joke didn't land. The mob characters in the movie and laughable and get their ass whooped by the wasp and ghost, I don't know why they are even in the movie. Overall this is very disappointing to me. Expand

Pros:Enjoyable, fun, some scenes made me laugh my ass off, faster paced than the first,Wasp stole the entire film, cool fight scenes, the cast was brilliant, the cgi looked fantastic, the motion capture was mind boggling as hell,it was crazy.
Cons:A lot,no spoiler but really nothing happened in the film(except the first end credits scene),the plot was so monotonous and sometimes messy that the film had no impact,no tension at all. There was really no real antagonist in the film.Ghost was very intriguing and sympathetic but to me i wouldn't consider her as a villain, her's character development was really poor and rushed, there was one scene that her back story was just retold and it should have been so much better instead of this,it was so lazy,c'mon.Quantum Realm was completely wasted in this film, the first Antman was really good at showing us a glim of Quantum Realm, but in the film,we still knew very little about it,which was so unfortunate cuz it had so much potential. The last 30 minutes completely dropped the balls to me,and many things don't make sense(For example:No major spoil:Why does Michelle Pfeiffer's still have all of those make ups perfectly after all those years."),they didn't explain this, and we have to accept.
Overall:To me Antman and The Waspuel was no where near as good as the first, the first one had a more coherent story,a much better plot, this one was enjoyable and fun but failed in story perspective

No style or panache at all, just a lot of jumping around and shrinking and expanding. I was very disappointed. I also read it was funny, but that meant mostly sight gags and snarky lines and not much wit, if any. I would say this was a movie mainly for small children, but then I’ve seen a lot of movies for that audience that I’ve really enjoyed. Expand

Its worse than the original Ant-man which at least had a coherent story and was made with enough care given its development troubles with Edgar Wright. Peyton Reed shows his limitations in this film where the plot doesn't really matter, the characters dont really have any arcs (or if there are any, its literally the same as the first film). There nothing really to say except its a paint by number Marvel formulaic film meaning: jokes every 2 minutes, convoluted plot, borderline terrible generic CGI, characters that are charming but lack any emotional heft, dumb villains and character you will quickly forget and a wooden plot you can probably write better in an hour. Again, there some good action, some good lines and yeah the same stuff. AMATW doesn't add anything to the ongoing Marvel storyline, in fact you just need to see the end-credit scene for any sort of narrative weight to matter. I wish we could go back to the OG marvel films like Iron Man, Captain America:First Avenger or even Civil War where the films had a good narrative, character interactions and well-made scenes. It seems a long time ago now that those films actually felt like films. Now they all feel like **** episodes of a generic TV show. If Marvel continues this trend, it will be the law of diminishing returns. Expand

However, I found AMATW to be a pale retread of the first film. It felt underwritten, incredibly inconsequential, and the stakes just didn't seem very high for anyone. The Ghost character and storyline is completely unecessary and the forced conflict between Scott and the gang at the beginning really doesn't make sense. Wasp is underwritten and dull considering Lillys talents. It was ok, I would still have purchased a ticket - but it did not have the vibrancy and drive of the first film. Luckily the scenes with Rudd and his family and Luis continue to connect. It doesnt have the humour of Ragnarok, the character of Guardians or the heart of Cap Amer - its just sort of the bland, slightly funny middle. Seems more like missed opportunity. Expand

It's not bad but the film doesn't offer any surprise.
I think it's the first sequel of the MCU since Iron Man 2 that doesn't feel different from its predecessor.

If you're already inside the world of the MCU obviously you will continue there, otherwise I don't know how a casual viewer can enjoy something that it will not understand at all.

The movie fulfills with the entertainment and the quality of Marvel is still there, but it's only that. There is nothing more worth mentioning, except the mid-credits scene that connects directly with the events of Avengers: Infinity War.

Also Ant-Man's no showing for Infinity War for this movie was not a great idea. The events that transpire feel so minor in comparison to that movie and having this release after IW was a bad move on Marvels part. This movie really should have been released prob late last year to flow better with Infinity War. Instead it's just a lackluster sequel and the first miss for Marvel in a few years. Expand

The trailers already showed you the whole movie. Entertain but ready, do not expect more than that. The CGI is good and a bit of humor too, just like the movie never bores. But the performances are very wasted (especially Pffeifer) and a villain that does not generate anything. In itself, it is a good movie, but, there is nothing that makes me want to see it again. “You can do it. You can do anything. You're the world's greatest grandma”

‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ returns in full size form. So, after all the chaos and heartbreak with ‘Infinity War’, Marvel have stepped on the breaks and went back for a safe comedic tone. Basically being it’s own side story in this already big universe.

I enjoyed the first ‘Ant-Man’. Not great by any means and just like everyone else would have loved to see Edgar Wright's version. Reeking of re-writes and a clash of people working on the movie. However, to everyones surprise, was not a complete disaster due to it’s muddled production is unheard of.

The sequel, on the other hand, was...fine. There are plenty of entertaining and hilarious scenes, but nothing beyond that. To be honest, I liked the first a little better, because I can tell the leftover ideas from Wright or any visually cues were still present which kept the overall movie afloat. We also get to see Scott Lang becoming Ant-Man and trying out the suit and his abilities. It was creative and sweet with the father and daughter subplot.

Paul Rudd plays Paul Rud- oh sorry, I mean Scott Lang. Whoopsie daisy. But in all seriousness, I can’t see a character beyond Rudd. Never against him, as I like the actor and a joy to watch. I don’t understand why they dumb down his character, because while not a genius compared to other MCU characters, yet shown some intelligence in the first movie, especially when breaking into houses and impress Hank Pymm (Michael Douglas) so much he gave him the suit. Just to make the other characters look good, I guess? Still, I love Paul Rudd; he brings a goofy charm to his character, at least.

Evangeline Lilly has more to done this time, fighting wise, just without any development or depth for her character to be compelling. Basically ‘bad-ass girl who can beat you up” type of trope. Michael Douglas, another actor I love and respect, spouts out techno jargon that I don’t think he knows what it means. Michael Pena is great though and him telling stories are the best thing in these movies.

Walton Goggins and Michelle Pfeiffer are completely underused here, which is such a waste of talent. Marvel needs to stop underusing talent.

The action scenes were at least fun. The shrinking/growing involving different objects was always thrilling to watch. A little overexposed in the trailers, yet never stopped me from enjoying what’s on screen. Although nothing compares to the battle sequence in the first movie where the whole final act was in a little girls bedroom with a toy train set. Thomas the Tank Engine was added to the mix. I can’t think of any blockbuster that has ended like that. Completely ridiculous, yet refreshing.

Peyton Reed, best known for comedy movies, did the best he could for something not so familiar to him.

Now the character of Ghost, which I thought was the main villain, but when her back story is relieved, not so much. I mean, She had so much potential for greatness if the script did the actress justice, because Hannah John-Kamen was putting her heart and soul into this. A real shame. When reflecting back, her main goal could have been achieved if she asked nicely for help.

I don’t hate the movie, due to the heavy criticism throughout this review. Nothing epic in scale, but the likable cast and action stops it from feeling ant size small. It should keep fans happy until the next installment.

Overall rating: DAMN TRUTH SERUM!

I’m not really a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I’ve only seen about half of the movies and I’ve only really liked about half of that, but Ant-Man is up there with my favourites. It was the most fun movie I had seen in a while! That being said, I did not enjoy Ant-Man and The Wasp very much. There were way too many characters with way too much going on for what should’ve been a pretty simple story, it was too long, everything was all grey, and the action scenes I thought paled in comparison to the first movie. My favourite part of the first movie was all the creative things they did with all the growing and the shrinking in the action sequences. They didn’t do a lot of that in the sequel. I don’t really know what happened. The same people who made the first movie also made this. What made the first movie so good but the sequel so underwhelming? Was it what was left over from the original Edgar Wright version? Was it my expectations being too high? Are they just running out of steam with these movies? I can’t put my finger on it. There were some things that I enjoyed, like the comedy, the performances, and the post-credits scenes, but that’s about it. I found this movie very dull and quite disappointing. Check it out if you’re a die-hard Marvel fan, skip it otherwise and just watch the post-credits scenes online somewhere. That’s all you really need as far as context for the other movies goes. Expand

Expand

For those of you who are still traumatized from Infinity War and need something to ease the pain then enjoy Ant-Man and the Wasp.
Ant-Man is back, only this time he's got a partner. Not up there with Marvel's best, and it's not quite as good as the first Ant-Man. Sure you might start to forget it as soon as you leave the cinema lobby but it's entertaining and enjoyable in the moment. Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) is suffering the consequences from his actions in Civil War. Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) show up, needing his help for an urgent mission.

It's got all the charm of the first Ant-Man but more quantum this and quantum that. Honestly the first half of the movie is a little bland, all the setup eventually pays off but the story felt way too dragged out. Paul Rudd is doing his thing, Michael Peña doing his thing and although not all the jokes land there's enough action to keep you interested. It's fun because it doesn't feature a life threatening city destroying CGI mess of a villain for the last 20 minutes. I loved the miniature car chases, and I loved the addition of The Wasp. Evangeline Lilly holds her own and could have been used a little more to be honest. It's not just Ant-Man, it's Ant-Man and the Wasp. Entertaining in the moment and recommended for the marvel fans.

Although reasonably well acted the movie is otherwise lackluster in almost every regard. An almost completely isolated and minimal story, this movie will leave you wondering why they bothered making aside from filling the gap between movies.

I haven't seen the first Ant-Man movie since it was in the theaters. I liked it, kind of, but I will admit it is one of the weakest films of the MCU cannon and maybe when I re-watch it I'll like it less. But regardless of that...yeah this one is just really bleh honestly. It's surprisingly watchable, but overall I'd say it's up there with Age of Ultron and the second Thor movie as the worst of the MCU. Not exactly terrible, but definitely mediocre.

The acting overall is hit or miss. Paul Rudd is alright as Ant-Man, kind of wonky in parts, but overall passable. Evangeline Lilly is pretty good here, even though Hope is basically the "bland heroine" stereotype (which somehow is a reoccurring thing for Lilly given the Hobbit films). Rudd and Lilly do have decent chemistry, not great, kind of over-praised by critics on that end, but definitely elevate their nothing romance. Michael Douglass is bleh here, Hannah John-Kamen tries here but she's not that great, Abby Ryder Forston is alright for child acting, definitely tolerable, Laurence Fishburne underacts here, which is kind of surprising, Walton Goggins is alright here but I'm too distracted by him looking like a rugged Chip Esten, Michael Pena...look I like him as an actor, but he gets nothing here in terms of comedy here, a few laughs but not much, although it is more than I can say from Randall Park, who just gets nothing from me.

One of the things that I liked a lot from the first Ant-Man is the action scenes and the use of the suit is a major highlight for the first film. It was fun to watch and felt like nothing I've seen before in a movie. Here, the acting just felt stale. Not exactly terrible but not much fun was had, outside of the car chase scene in the third act which was genuinely fun. It honestly felt like director Peyton Reed and company didn't really try when doing the action scenes, even though there are loads of opportunity to make a ton of fun action scenes, especially for the Wasp! And as per usual with a lot of the MCU films that aren't helped by James Gunn (FWI Disney needs to grow a pair and not fire people for bad jokes. Yes I am defending Rosanne get off my case!), the cinematography and shot composition is just bland and lifeless, feeling more like a lame comedy movie. Speaking of comedy, it's largely safe, bland, and miss. There are some chuckles and laughs from me, but overall the comedy felt like it was meant to appease test audiences.

The writing was surprising with how bad it is. I say surprising because while the first Ant-Man had a super bland story, there was at least an attempt at writing characters where Scott Lang was going through a redemption ark. Here no one gets developed, they are all cardboard cut out and flat as hell. Scott Lang feels more like a nothing character and more like a fill in for Paul Rudd to be in the MCU. Hank Pym probably had a story ark but the writers made no effort in developing him. Hope is just a bland heroine. And the villains are not very good either. Keyword being villains, because this movie is padded with unnecessary bad guys! Ghost's motivation at least made sense, which is a step above the generic rich **** that was Corey Stull's character in the first film, however they botch it up because Ghost is an irrational person who does dumb things even though it could have ended if she just stopped and heard someone out for once! Sonny was completely worthless and practically pointless in this film. It legitimately gave me flashbacks to Sam Rockwell's character in Iron Man 2, but at least Sam Rockwell elevated that role honestly! Jimmy Woo, while not a bad guy and more of a monkey wrench, also felt practically pointless too and unnecessary conflict as well other than reminding the audience of the stupid accords from Civil War that was brushed aside in Infinity War. And speaking of forced conflicts, if people would have just talked things out so much of the conflicts would have changed everything! Why didn't Hank and Hope just waited the THREE DAYS Steve had of his house arrest is beyond me! So many of these characters act like idiots here!

I should be more harsher than I am because there are some funny moments here and there and the third act is legitimately entertaining, but overall just a lazy sequel to an already average film. The only reason this movie would work is because it's part of the MCU, but even some of the weaker films are more enjoyable than this really. Skip it unless you are a completionist.

Compared to its predecessor, "Ant-Man and The Wasp" is a barely entertaining movie with a much more predictable plot and over use of terribly made product placement. It felt like an advertisment at certian points in the movie...

Antman 2 encore un Marvel. En réalité aucune déception.. Il est meilleur que le premier en tout point sauf qu'il est comme les autres Marvel. Il est sans prise de risque.

I didn't have high expectations but this is still bad. Now I don't hate marvel but this year is not very good for marvel, except infinity war that was good, anyways black panther wasn't very good in my opinion. Now on to this film, this film's pacing is the biggest problem in my opinion, there's so much padding, where it tries to get the film to 2 hours. The film is forgettable, I don't really need to say much. The comedy is good I guess. The ending is cheesy and really dumb, I'm not gonna talk about it because you have to watch it yourself to believe it, I want to talk about it some more but it's so forgettable, I have a hard time choosing which I prefer between black panther and this. To fully enjoy the movie you have to:
a) turn off your brain b) not question anything after watching the movie

If you'll do so, the score easily will be 7/10. But dare you ask anything like "why" the enjoyment of watching this movie drops.

While it´s better than the first one, it only proves how bland the MCU can be.

Reed and Rudd are finally pulling the same joke, what is extracted is a much more resonant message.

Ant-Man And The Wasp

Reed is literally improvising, in both the set and I compare to his previous installment, and this time, finally, in sync with Paul Rudd, the content that they nod to and have passed it as their "all-in" bet, is a humble brag worth exploring for its empathy and not the laughs. There are very few films that moves with such zip and especially when they have a light humor and higher stakes on their side, this feels like a week day in the superhero community. And if we look at it as the part of the MCU series, and we should always, it is the perfect after party to the jarring impact left by Josh Brolin in Infinity War.

Besides how often do you see a superhero running away in order to not get scolded by a teacher? The first half is basically knocking on each character's door, where the cards are revealed up front about everything and everyone, no matter how hard they try, "come on, man I thought you were cool." exhales Rudd to Laurence Fishburne. Unlike other Marvel chapters, the humor comes in smooth and never feels like they are going out of their way, even when they are, "It's a truth serum." gets its own arc.

One of the major disappointment is, not the build up of dramatic scenes or the tease that Peyton Redd, the director, lacks in his vocab, but the antagonist which makes us feel exactly like the writers were feeling whilst writing it down, still trying to figure her way out, The Ghost, is dead at basically anything. This entirely daughter-love driven content never fully grasps the momentum it should carry, the only relationship that comes out with the "World's Best Grandma" trophy, is of Rudd and Abby Ryder Fortson who should have been his partner and instead it is Ant-Man And The Wasp.

Worst Marvel movie I have seen and that is saying something. It wasn't even a movie more like an episode from a kids show. It's just a comedy, that isn't even funny. Absolute garbage, i would pay to not watch it.

It's another fast food Marvel film. It's not as good as a lot of the others, but it's still competent enough. But that's all it is. Competent.

Expand

MCU's Phase 3 has a ton of great films in it. Ant-Man and the Wasp is not one of them.

Despite my low rating for this film, I had a bit of a fun time with the film. There's just one huge (no pun intended) problem with the film. It has many things crammed into it, while at the same time, it doesn't do any effort whatsoever to make these thing form cohesively in the film. Micheal Pena and his two other friends in the film aren't necessary characters, there are two main antagonists in the film, and they're both unlikable in a bad way, especially the main villain who can disappear or whatever thingamajig it does (I forgot its name and what its powers are. That's how forgettable its character is), and some decisions and logic in the film make no **** sense whatsoever, but I got a bit easy with this part, since it is a Marvel movie, not everything makes sense.

My point is, the film tries to be big on scale, and tried to do too much, and ended up being a sloppy mess of a film with fun and imaginative action scenes, but that's it. The movie feels much longer than it actually is. The pacing of the film is either really slow or decently exciting, it's just a mess. This whole movie is a mess. There's nothing special about this film other than the well choreographed action scenes. If you're a Marvel fan, I don't care, you're gonna watch this film already, or at this case, HAVE already watched it. For those who don't see this film as their cup of tea, this isn't for you.

For me, despite having many issues with it, Ant-Man and the Wasp was bland, uninspired, and just a regular superhero film overall.

Ant Man and the Wasp is a fun movie at certain times, and boring in others, it does not show us anything other than what was presented in the trailers.

Good : One good thing about this movie, besides the cast, is the deaging CGI. It looked awesome. To me, it felt like Michael Douglas from the 90s with just a different hair and almost similarly with others. And, father-daughter dynamic between Scott and his daughter was likeable. And, that's all good about it. .
.
Bad : It was mostly vague, and almost a total crap. It doesn't try to be anything more than a filler. To be honest, it felt like a dumbed down version of "25th Hour" with a lighter tone featuring some superhero characters. It simply aims at being a movie with some little fun stuff but being disposable on the whole. Both of the major plotlines - one involving Ghost and the other involving Sonny Burch felt just like something that was there to help the plot go further. The characterization of Ghost and Burch have no depth in them. Burch is totally shallow and one dimensional and generic. Ghost has a little backstory, and isn't enough to get behind the character. The motives which drive both the plotlines are totally clichéd and thinly built. It felt as if they thought 'Ghost isn't a good villain, let's distract the viewers by giving them the other plotline'. This created an "Iron Man 2" level of multiple plotline mess - a little less interesting. Ant-Man is a sidekick in this movie. From someone who could bring about a well planned heist to a doofus - with no explanation. Giant Man plays into the story, but it's more for slapsticky purposes. Also, the original Wasp gets some powers in the Quantum Realm which are not even explained by this movie. Surely, it might be explained in future films, but it could've easily done that. Lawrence Fishburne feels like a wasted talent in this movie. It seemed like a promising character, but turned out to be the same old "good guy in the bad guy's side" character. To sum it up, I must say that it was way below my expectations. It's not that I have watched an impactful and emotionally craving "Avengers: Infinity War" and I wasn't in a mood to watch something so less impactful. I knew it wasn't going to be a spectacular as IW but neither did I expect it to be so much of a mediocrity. It's not that the aftermath of IW has holded this movie down. .
.
Conclusion : After a long time, it will develop the same legacy as that of "Iron Man 2", at best. I wonder how the same critics who panned "Justice League" (2017) for having a thin plot and creating a mess gave it a thumbs up. As someone who likes "Ant-Man" (2015) and considers it to be the most underappreciated MCU movie till date, its sequel was mediocre at best. I thought "Black Panther" was going to be the worst MCU movie of 2018, but I was wrong. It's "Ant-Man and The Wasp". It's a synonym of disappointment. .
