This Movie may be the WORST of the series, it is at least tied with alien 3 for that. Poor writing, uninteresting characters, a stupid plot & over reliance CG sequences. This movie was a major disappointment to me as a fan of the series.

Then Alien covenant is going to get you %85 there. Get ready to experience confusing feelings about the beginning of humanities extinction, like the time you drank non alcoholic beer for the first time and you realized you never like the taste but just drank to bury your non existing self confidence down. Feel like you broke your jaw with a jaw breaker from the amazing cg effects has to offer and leave the theater with a speech impediment that'll leave you single for the rest of your life only to be reminded of your depressing life every time you watch this movie. Never will you doubt agent Fox (x-files) for screaming aliens in the sky instead leave your family and friends to build a bunker at your parents house cuz your girlfriend kicked you out for having ptsd from this movie. This plot will have you feeling like your term for hope really went out the window. (specially if your name is "hope") With twists and turns and some few plot holes that make you feel your driving down your parents dirt rode while getting head. (asking yourself, why am I not driving on a solid rode for this and I cant stop now cuz it feels amazing.) With a great cast that falls into the stereotypical cast of horror that we all love. Emerge yourself in a planet that looks like earth and abandon because production spend a ton a money on advertising this movies hype so now you look at the exact almost look a like planet from the movie "Prometheus" and begin to wonder "wow... every planet looks the **** same" Alien: Covenant will make you feel like you've watched "nightmare on elm street 5" all over again, but know that media has you hooked cuz you cant watch anything else but the same movie but this time before everything has happened. I have always thought that "Prometheus" was an excellent science fiction film and a below average Alien film. I feel the opposite with "Covenant." As an Alien film, it succeeds at almost everything "Prometheus" failed at. Unfortunately, asI have always thought that "Prometheus" was an excellent science fiction film and a below average Alien film. I feel the opposite with "Covenant." As an Alien film, it succeeds at almost everything "Prometheus" failed at. Unfortunately, as a sci-fi genre film, "Covenant" falls a little flat.
My first and worst criticism of the film is; I felt almost zero suspense and wasn't scared at all. Am I desensitized to sci-fi violence because of the two excellent and too many awful Alien films that I've seen before it? Probably. The ending of the film was a little too "Empire Strikes Back" for me - an ending that tells the viewer to stay tuned for a sequel in a few years.
I didn't have the issues with the special effects as some other reviewers. I thought the film looked fine. I don't like shiny and smooth sci-fi effects or set pieces (Star Wars prequels anyone?). This film feels like the original 1979 version, and even has the music to boot (along with some from Prometheus).
The characters are barely realized. David is pretty much just as we left him in 2012, and Walter is a well-done brother. Fassbender is outstanding, as is Waterston, but the human characters just don't seem likeable or developed at all.
I enjoyed "Prometheus" as a terrific sci-fi film and wasn't bothered too much with the lack of xenomorph that upset many fans. This one had all kinds of nasty baddies, but had no human characters to root for. I tried very hard to love this movie, but I left a little confused with how I felt about it. I wouldn't say it's a failure, and I'll be happy to see it again on cable or blue-ray, but I think this film was hurt by a sub-par script and way over-par expectations.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When I first saw Prometheus, I immediately liked the idea behind it.
Classic mankind questions were brought into the movie and created a whole new horizon in the Aliens franchise world. Questions like "WHO ARE WE?", "WHERE DO WE COME FROM?" or "WHY DID OUR ENGINEERS TRIED TO KILL US?" made Prometheus a great movie in a variant way and made us anxiously wait for a sequel. A sequel that supposedly would answer all these questions; a sequel that promised to explain us all the origins and humanity and the aliens...

I WAS SO WRONG! Alien Covenant turned to be a fake promise and did not answer any questions raised in its predecessor Prometheus.

Even being a great fan of the Aliens (apart from Alien 4 and Alien vs Predator movies), I can't agree with the mess Mr. Ridley Scott did with Alien Covenant.
Let's go to the facts:

(CHARACTERS)
Characters in Prometheus were not the best. They lacked a bit of personality, attitude and empathy with the audience, even if acting was GOOD, especially Michael Fassbender. In Alien Covenant, as far as anyone can see, characters are even worse! They simply exist to die, nothing more. No intelligence, no meaning, no use, nothing! Acting was equally BAD, apart from Michael Fassbender again!

(REALISM)
In Prometheus we have seen one main stupid scene that in real life would NEVER happen: a fascinated scientist that got in direct touch with alien life with no apparent reason or care. In Alien Covenant, Mr. Ridley Scott kept thinking we all LIKED that a lot and populated the entire movie with unrealistic scenes! NO, Mr. Scott! We didn't like or approve your decisions on adding nonsense to the movie!

1) As much as an alien planet would look like Earth, no one would ever land on it and explore it without a suit and EXTREME care and attention! THAT WOULDN'T HAPPEN IN REAL LIFE!

2) No intelligent person would ever stayed inside the same room of an ill person that seemed to be infected. Much less would a normal person touch the other one with evident signs of "mutation" and bleeding. NO, Mr. SCOTT! THIS ISN'T VERY REAL!

3) What kind of crew was in the ship, after all? They were supposed to be the BEST among the BEST. They carry 2000 human embryos to be taken to a planet that was long surveyed and studied. THEY should be a RESPONSIBLE crew. They are NOT! From an instant to another, the captain simply decides to investigate another Earth-like planet that seems to be sending "strange" signal messages, discarding the long studied planet just because the crew of the ship doesn't want to spend 7 years in their sleep capsules that recently had a failure. THIS ISN'T ALSO REAL, MR. SCOTT! A Captain should be a WELL TRAINED person, prepared to make the best choices in the most aggressive and stressing moments.

4) Who in its normal state would make love in a shower knowing that a new life form was roaming free inside the ship? What the heck is that, Mr. Scott? There's an alien in the ship and you tell your movie characters to make love in a shower like if the life form was just a simple fly? THIS IS NOT REALISM!!!

I could simply go on and tell you Alien fans more and more inconsistencies, but I'd just make myself BORING! All that matters about Alien Covenant is that it has no realism; everything seems so stupid to the point we wanna give up seeing the movie!!

(SPECIAL FX)
Special effects on Alien Covenant are fairly decent, but not so great as in Prometheus. Some sequences, however, are a bit confusing to the eye and does not help fans to like them a lot.

(STORY)
Alien Covenant has no story. Period. What? Yes! I'm serious! NO story at all. It's a bad mix of Prometheus with Alien and Aliens. The result is a miscellaneous SOUP of grotesque TASTE, awful SMELL and POISONOUS consequences! Ridley Scott could have the opportunity to make Prometheus even bigger than what it was, even more marvelous than what it became. But no. He did something much worse than giving no story to Alien Covenant. He KILLED the original Alien story and the entire franchise!

(LACK OF OPPORTUNITY) Ridley Scott had the opportunity of his life. Do his best to make a GRAND Alien movie for the generations to come. Being the father of Alien, he could have done so much for Alien Covenant. He could have made it a reference (for the difference) in the Alien franchise. He didn't. He shot his own son and spitted on his fans!!

In summary, Alien Covenant is the WORST of the Aliens. It didn't ruin itself alone; it ruined all Aliens (the good ones and the bad ones).
Even with a great photography, Alien Covenant is a movie without a soul, empty in all senses, doesn't answer any questions made in Prometheus and dares to destroy the whole Alien concept. It's sad, my dear reader. Sad but true. I'm disappointed. And I'm gonna forget that Alien Covenant ever exists. To me, Prometheus deserved a SERIOUS and REALISTIC sequel, but only got a twisted shadow of what an Alien movie should be!

3/10!

A completely unnecessary film (aside for fattening Mr. Scott's bank account).

It has a good production value, don't get me wrong, but this film doesn't bring anything on the table. What's worse, several turning points of the movie are typical "DON'T DO THAT, YOU FOOL!!" moments, which are very disappointing.

I give 3 just because even if one wants to spend 2 hours of his time watching a horror/sci-fi, especially this years, there are plenty; facehuggers were cool 40 years ago, today, they're just boring.

I'll be blunt - my wifeSome Hollywood types simply cannot resist milking a successful movie until it's totally sucked dry, void of any shred of originality, and nothing but rehash for those who love the franchise sequel/prequel format. I'll be blunt - my wife wanted to see "Alien: Covenant". Being the dutiful husband and nice guy, I took her, and got exactly what I expected. She usually likes the Alien series, but this one was a bomb for her, too. Not even the usually fine Michael Fassbender could save this wreck. The cinematography was good, and it ought to be, considering how many millions of dollars the "Alien" series has netted. But overall, this was a cliched uninspired mess. A movie this predictable shouldn't even have spoiler alerts. I'll give a bit of one anyway, in that it rips off the original 1979 classic every which way: pods that dumbasses look into and get plastered by the acidic alien on the puss and in maybe the slightest twist, a few that get infected by spores and then blow up. That was a rip off from "Alien 3", so there goes the originality. And of course, the artificial intelligence being, played in a dual role by Fassbender, has issues and once again, you can't trust an android. It is only because of Fassbender that "Covenant" has any merit at all. The other actors, including the religious Billy Crudup are uninspiring and just do not connect. In fact, the movie doesn't connect at all except for hardcore fans and those who just like to jump at the loud moments and watch different ways the aliens mutilate the hapless cast. And the ending just guarantees another sequel, which is the most terrifying moment in this whole pointless movie. I'll stick with the much much greater sequel to "Guardians of the Galaxy" - as loony as those two movies are, at least we can savor each character and see some of the coolest effects ever in the sci fi genre. As far as I'm concerned, nobody will ever touch the brilliance, truly terrifying twists and turns and overall thrills of the original "Alien", and I wish to hell Ridley Scott and Hollywood would put this series out the cargo bay into the silence of space for good. "I'll do the fingering"

I liked "Alien: Covenant" a lot. Didn't have much expectations going in and was pleased of what I saw. It improves a lot of the issues people had with "PROMETHEUS" and brings the original horror back to the series. While I can't say "Covenant" is a great movie or anything (or just another alien re-hash). However, at least this movie gives it's prequel a purpose and opens doors for future films. It's a movie for both fans of Alien and Prometheus.

For me, I really liked Prometheus and was interested in the ideas it brought up. I mean, I do agree the character's were idiots, but I wouldn't call the rest of movie complete sh*t because of that. The criticism were so heavy that it made Ridley Scott change his mind of the original plans for the sequels. By giving us the alien, the space crew, and lots of blood.

How lovely

Ridley Scott once again knocks it out of the park. The intensity, beautiful landscapes, and the almost poetic feel to it. Leaving you sinking in your seat with the amount of terror and gory details on screen. Pretty much a trademark for Scott. It's a slasher film in space, but steps away from being anything generic.

I ain't the first to say this, but at this point I don't care, because Michael Fassbender is such an amazing actor. One of the most versatile actors working today and he kills it in every scene. Playing double roles as David / Walter - who are the most fascinating characters with some compelling scenes together. Quite honestly, he's scarier than the Xenomorphs themselves and the movie is aware of this. The aliens are pretty much afterthoughts. That's how good he is.

However, Covenant has it's flaws. The mash up of Alien and Prometheus could have been a lot sharper, as it kept switching tones and should have been one thing. Especially in the third act which suffers from that tone problem and was too overblown. Without spoiling anything, but there's a twist at the end which was absurdly obvious and easy to predict.

Speaking of predictable, every time a character is going to die (or bite the dust if you like), the film makes it very obvious who's going out. It would have been great if there were some surprises. Like a major character who we thought is the lead, gets killed before the horror starts. It's nothing new, but it's something.

Overall rating: Despite my issues, I was surprise of how much I liked this. I already know this is going to be ripped to pieces by people in a few months time, but like always, I don't care.

Not much is answered in Alien: Covenant - although the unknown is more terrifying.

Scott pulled a Lucas, where he does not even attempt to develop any kind of character for the people about to be killed off, which leaves the audience asking "who cares". With pre-knowledge of past glories (Alien movies), you cannot help but be severely disappointed. Those claiming this is art must have missed all the previous movies. Even Alien 4 is better in many respects, as it was at least trying to create something new, and bothered to make us at least like a few of the characters. I hope the Bokenkamp sequel to Alien 2 is put back into production, and Ridley is finally barred from interfering with the series, as Disney did had to do with Lucas. Expand

1) Characters are bland and expendable. They actually introduce them on youtube! Are we expected to watch it before the movie to care? or we don't expect to care?;
2) The couples thing could work only if we care and know who is married to whom. Oh, you don't grasp it? well you should have watch youtube prologue;
3) James Franko character is on f***ing youtube video, but not in the actual movie;
4) We expected to believe that space colonization mission which is tailored and trained to the specific planet could just change course like this, on the spot? Don't they answer for money, colonist, embryos?;
5) They not the scientist from Prometheus, but you are really don't need a helmet then landing on the unknown planet for the first time? I mean - poisonous airborne spores are EXACTLY the thing we need to be protected from on unknown planet, right?;
6) Don't' they scan the planet before landing? And saw abandoned cities? Get the sense that something wrong here?;
7) Oh, you like the Prometheus despite all the stupid things characters did? Do you want to know what happened with Elizabeth Shaw on Engineers homeworld? Or why engineers were going to the Earth? Well, too bad (*sound of you getting slapped in the face*). But here some cool youtube prologue;
8) Androids can now grow hairs. Cool. Was he doing it while spending years on Prometheus? How many hours was spent to implement this feature to androids? Was it documented?;
9) Why making alien eggs (eggs are clearly planted by the Queen in Aliens. How can you make exactly the same egg without the Queen?) but why would you? Black Goo in Airborne Form For Some Reason (TM) is faster, more efficient and more discreet than facehugger and get things done.
10) Oh, you have one crazy android and one good and loyal? Well, you should not ever question who exactly get back to your ship. Because that seriously could go wrong, right? You sorta sure it's the good one, so it's good enough. (That twist was so obvious the moment they cut the fight by the way)
11) Alien lore? Timeline? Logic? Alien biology? Who cares.

I went into the theater expecting expecting a dud like every entry into this franchise since 1986 but walked away pleasantly surprised. The acting was superb. Michael Fassbender, Danny McBride and Katherine Waterston all delivered excellent performances. Waterston recaptured some of Sigourney Weaver's magic as a strong but believable female lead. As expected with Scott, the visuals were stunning. The atmosphere was tense. The pacing felt just right.

It wasn't a groundbreaking film. It didn't add anything particularly new. Either did Star Wars: The Force Awakens but it was enjoyable enough. Like Episode VII, the scenes that are most familiar felt more like an homage to the past than a franchise struggling to find new things to do.

If you're a long time Alien fan and stuck with the franchise through Alien 3, Alien: Resurrection, the two AVP films and Prometheus I doubt you'll be missing this film despite the mixed reception. If you're unsure I suggest you go. It's worth the price of admission, in my opinion at least.

As with 2012's "Prometheus," "Alien: Covenant's" production design, visual scheme and special effects are about as top notch as any filmgoer could ask for, and both films also feature an inarguably compelling Michael Fassbender performance. However, where "Covenant" falters is in its tedious and borderline self-flagellatory crutch to world-build instead of develop character. Don't get me wrong, I admire the attempts at imagination and creativity. But when most questions and plot-holes are left frustratingly unanswered and unfilled, I can't help but notice some of the more lackluster elements running rampant in the film's character make-up. Here's hoping Ridley and co. can successfully tie everything off in the next one. Expand

However for the most part I was severely disappointed with it. I loved Prometheus for its mysterious tone and fresh take on science fiction- which this film completely abandons by the way, any questions about the black goo and origins of the xenomorph are swiftly and quickly explained during one scene in the movie- but one of the things I really did not like about Prometheus was how jaw droppingly stupid the characters were and how they walked right into every bad thing that happens to them. I was hoping that Scott would hear these complaints because I know people were very vocal about it but I'm sad to say that it's even worse in this film. Without spoiling the script, I'll just say that the stupidity exhibited by the crew of the Covenant is astronomical. Rather than being afraid or even in suspense during the movie, I spent most of the film being incredibly frustrated with the cast and their absolutely stereotypical and cliche missteps that continually get them in worse situations as the plot goes onward. Every kill scene is walked right into and is a cliche directly taken from every slasher movie you have ever seen. Hey gotta go take a piss- and you can guess what happens next. The group keeps separating, people keep walking off by themselves, putting their faces in **** they shouldn't and it's just boring and infuriating. I've seen all of it already. It made everything else about the film hard to get engaged with. They even rehashed some of these things from previous Alien films but instead of being fan service it simply did not work and had me facepalming instead. Furthermore the film merely touches on the events that take place directly after Prometheus, and without spoiling anything, while David returns, we don't get to see Shaw again and the Engineers play a very small role in the plot, and are presented MUCH differently than they were in Prometheus, in a very brief scene, completely losing what made them awe inspiring in the previous film. I'm curious as to what Ridley Scott's original idea for the sequel to Prometheus might have been like, as it seems like they told him, "nope people want another Alien film, give us an Alien movie," and they had to start over and we got a script written for stupid audiences that was produced in a rush. Again no spoilers, but the final outcome of the film almost seems well deserved as it makes humans seem absolutely not worth saving as I found pleasure in watching every last of these idiots die (not saying everyone dies- nothing spoiled here- but many do). The final twist is extremely predictable but I really like the story dynamics concerning the synthetics and how they end up playing an extremely important role in the overall turn of events. Honestly I can't think of much else good to say about it though. Everything above is what killed it for me but add to all those complaints the fact that all the creatures in the film are CGI, there are little to no practical effects and the battle with the xenomorph is a gravity defying action heavy sequence that would literally be impossible and completely took away any sense of fear or dread, and we have a massive disappointment. I love the original Alien trilogy, maybe I'm just old school and have nostalgia glasses on but this does not hold a torch to any of those movies in any way if you ask me. If you're a huge fan of the OG trilogy like me, maybe stay away from this. I really liked the direction they went in with Prometheus- they should have kept going in that direction just with characters that were written more realistically- but they caved so people could have their xenomorph and wrote a script just to satisfy the masses, except they didn't even bother to write believable characters- double fail if you ask me. I've watched it twice and it didn't get better the second time. Expand

Apparently audiences are supposed to be swayed by pretty imagery, half-baked philosophy, and allusions to great works of art. Instead of a tense, atmospheric horror film - like the masterful Alien - we get a movie about an android with daddy issues and a god complex. Most of the film revolves around guessing which severely underdeveloped character will die next. I just saw the movie and I'm struggling to remember 90% of the characters' names or personality traits - oh wait, they had no personality traits. So what you are basically seeing is a teenage slasher that is trying to play itself off as a "thinking man's film." It is utterly embarrassing. It would be one thing of the movie was actually scary but it isn't. It is just gross and lots of people die. That is about it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you want to enjoy this movie, do yourself a favor: realize it is not an Alien movie. It is Prometheus 2. Like 100%, without a doubt, Prometheus 2. There is actually very little of the traditional "Alien" in this movie that people are expecting, and I think that's why a lot of people are reacting very negatively.

I'm guessing there were Marketing and Studio reasons to call it Alien, which screws up expectations. Marketing is screwing up the reception of the film by making people think it's something else entirely. As Prometheus 2 I really liked it. .

I think it's actually really cool how it all weaves together. The problem is people think Ridley was playing fast and loose with how the Alien ecology works - but he wasn't...90% of what we saw happening with the spores and weird looking aliens was Davids **** up creations using the "highly malleable" pathogen running amok. The alien that came out of the captain near the end was the first "true" alien born.

Sure there were some silly things like the guy getting impregnated THAT fast etc, but most of these movies have things like that (like the idiot biologist snake-charmer in Prometheus 1). That's why I give it an 8. Big mistake calling it Alien imo.

Other than that, it wasn't very good by any means. The acting, while not corny, was not memorable for any of the characters other than Danny McBride successfully escaping his stereotypical comedy role. The story was incredibly sloppy and relied on characters that were nowhere near qualified for the task they set out to do, and therefore made very poor leadership decisions allowing for things to go south for the crew and force the plot to unfold as it does. While not quite as graphic as Prometheus in my opinion, it is still incredibly gruesome, almost at a level that is off-putting (like Prometheus), however I know some people like that so that did not influence my rating. The CGI aliens at times looked very good, then at times looked very fake. I would expect that in this day and age that would be the one thing a large budget film such as this would get right. If you loved Prometheus then you'll probably enjoy this film, however if you are more of a fan of the original series like me, this movie doesn't hold a candle. Expand

Human characters (maybe except Daniels) - 5/10. And it's not the actors' fault. Prometheus was definitely better - the humans were so self-centered, oblivious, and taking the android's obedience for granted that you could actually feel the android's anger (or disgust). And yet, for example, Idris Elba's character was memorable.

But in Alien: Covenant, humans are meat. Their decisions are as stupid as if they starred in a horror movie (well they kind of do). They split up and so on. Sometimes they show they are a bit more than stock characters, but rarely. Although you can feel their desperation, and you feel sorry for them. If you want a movie that leaves you happy or satisfied, well, pick another movie.

You can see quite a range of the Alien variants. One, which appears just for a short time, seemed as scary as the original creature. But others just dilute the Alien "brand".

And when the original creature appears, it's long after Aliens-style firefights, and there is not much suspense. There is more gore than fear. Don't let advertising fool you into thinking the Alien is the star of the movie. It's much less scary than you'd expect. The series is not about aliens anymore; it's about androids.

What can I say: it's dark, it's unsettling, there is no real (human) hero, characters act illogically... and I watched it twice. And it was worth it.

Humans are fallable, but we have brilliance. We create synthetic beings(androids). We make them to look and act just like us in the realest ways. We make them to be perfect, but we imbue androids with experiences that are examples of our worst traits. A creation will wish to mimic its creator. David, like humans in history, razes an entire society of people, then seeks to make himself god-like by trying to make something more indestructible than him. But David is flawed. Humans on the ship Covenant are basically missionaries posed as colonists. They bring all these things from their human lives to set upon a world they are not sure is inhabited already. What they know is that it is in the "habitable zone" and might be a new home for humans. We mythicize creation with pretension only because we so strongly dislike aspects of ourselves as humans that we forever wish to change. Redo. We wish to go back to "the Garden" and rewrite things. Alien:Covenant is a great film. It packs in quite a bit into 2hrs. Watch the film "Prometheus" again, and perhaps you will understand that Alien:Covenant is about the destruction wrought after humans perhaps finding out that we were not the prodigious result of evolution, all the while trying to extend our chaotic rule of peace, violence, simplicity, and complexity. The reasons why we are imperfect. Ridley Scott picked out great actors in Katherine Waterston, Michael Fassbender, Amy Seimeitz, and Dennis McBride. A well-written script and well-placed terror on film. Expand

They seem off; maybe because I'm not used to seeing them in non-comedic roles. I do like to add, however, that Danny McBride caught me off guard here. He did well, in my opinion. The atmosphere and the overall "vibe" of the movie was good; the soundtrack is a little off at times. Visuals were amazing, and the CGI was top notch. There were parts that were dragging, but not so much that it took away from the entire experience of the movie. The ending ruined the movie for me. It was so unoriginal, and predictable. But, you be the judge. I gave this movie an 8/10 because I really did enjoy the movie, with little hiccups here and there but nothing detrimental to the movie itself. Bravo! Expand

I'm not gonna beat around the bush in this review. It's the exact same formula we've seen in all of the other Alien films thus far: Space crew lands on a planet. Space crew is rapidly and noisily picked off by the aliens. What's left of the space crew tries to escape. Remaining space crew has to fight an alien one more time towards the end. Sound familiar? Maybe that's because that's pretty much been the EXACT same plot structure for all of these movies! It may work just fine the first couple of times, but anything more than that, and it feels unbelievably repetitive, case in point! The talented cast assembled tries to make the most of their roles, but can only do so much with what little development their characters receive before many of them are quickly killed off, a lot of them due to stupid mistakes and actions made on their part in the film. All I can really say that's positive is that some of the film's imagery/cinematography and visuals throughout look great as always, but it's not near enough to make up for the rest of this mess of a film. Overall, not only does it stick annoyingly close to the same old formula and tropes found in many of the previous films, it brings absolutely nothing new or interesting to the table either to really make it worthwhile in my opinion. Normally, I love Ridley Scott and his films, but I'm really starting to think that he's unfortunately losing his touch with the Alien franchise big time. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'll give you my opinion filled with spoilers of course, and sorry for my poor English. I liked: mostly the first part, the gorgeous shots of the covenant with it sails fully open and the arrival to the planet. The relationship walter/david and what it implied more than what they showed. What I didn't like and this is the long part: the many mistakes made by the crew and the silly security decisions. Starting with arriving to a planet with unknown biosphere (bacteria and viruses you don know) without at least hazmat suits, that would be difficult for the plot to evolve since the first contagion is via air, but that is exactly why you always wear your spacesuit! Same plot holes from Prometheus, scientist not acting scientifically. After that they arrive to a new civilization and they act like if something they see every day, no awe or anything, the one more mesmerized seems to be Walter. And from there my suspension of disbelief totally disappeared. A Tennessee that allows the covenant to get closer to the ground risking the whole mission as if it was a common expedition. The quick way the show what happened at the arrival of David and how little we still know about the engineers. The stupid way David lures the captain into watching the egg and how quickly the xenomorph evolves from a small being into a huge one in a few minutes and with out eating... And the ending, how is it that David is authorized to have any type of interaction with MUTHUR and why MUTHUR doesn't react to him being on the ship as she reacts to a unknown life on board... I could say way more but I probably already bored you. I think is a 6/10 a lost opportunity, they tried to blend alien, aliens and Prometheus and do a lot of fan service in one movie and didn't work for me. Is not a bad movie but is not what I expected, liked Prometheus way better. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Covenant crew made inadmissible actions twice, putting in danger all the 2000 sleeping colonists while trying to rescue a few of its members. Comparing to unacceptably stupid ship crew, both synthetic characters played by Fassbender look incredibly intelligent and focused. Walter is the only one who really tries to get to the core instead of boosting panic. David, on the other side, plays evil genius which strikes with flash-like ruthless actions to make his perverted dream of creating something beautiful come true.

I would ask Mr. R. Scott: "Is this what awaits us in the future? Unbelievably dumb people and highly intelligent synthetic androids? You've given entirely different view in the very first Alien movie. So what went wrong?"

P.S. Speaking of artistic performance, sound effects and cinematography - they are gorgeous.

Not as good as Alien 1, Alien 2, or Prometheus but better than the vs Predator movies wrt plotline and vastly better than the almost unwathcable Alien 3. Plot is OK, action sequence, etc. are what you'd expect. It's biggest flaw is there are no surprises - everything that happens is utterly predictable and unfolds exactly as you know it's going to. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I saw Alien Covenant last week. Even though I wasn`t a big fan of Prometheus (thought that it was okay), I was still excited for Covenant, and I walked out of the theater satisfied. I thought that it was a great movie.
Going into Alien Covenant, I was excited as it would return the franchise to its horror routes and bring back the Xenomorphs, along with a new monster (Neomorph) and answers questions about the iconic movie monster.

I left the theater satisfied, but wanting more (in a good way). It is definitely the best Alien movie since Aliens, while still having a few issues (no movie is perfect :D).

Plot: The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy (called Origae-6), discovers another planet which they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.

The Great:

The Xenomorph. It looked amazing, similar to the original Giger design, but still a bit different when it came to its movement and its brutality. The cargo ship sequence was a big highlight, and the shower scene was actually pretty good and scary (surprisingly O_o). Another great sequence was the final one of Daniels and Tennessee hunting the Xeno across the ship, with Walter (David in disguise) helping them by tracking it and closing/opening airlocks. I have heard complains about the CG on the Xeno, but I think it looks great. The beast is definitely NOT cooked.

The Neomorph is a fantastic new addition to the franchise. It's a bit smaller then the normal Xeno, but faster and more brutal. Some of the goriest death scenes in the movie came from them. The backburster is very gory, disgusting (in a good way). It also has a fantastic scene with David (Michael Fassbender), where it reacts calm to him and doesn't attack, before Oram shows up and kills it, pissing David off (which leads to Oram get facehugged).

The creature designs and creature effects were great (except for one's effect). I am happy that H. R. Giger is credited for the creature designs at the beginning of the end credits.

Most of the characters and performances were great. I cared more about the characters in Covenant then I did for the characters in Prometheus. The best characters were Tennessee (Danny Mcbride), Walter/David (Michael Fassbender) and Daniels (Katherine Waterston).

Every scene with David and Walter. Their scenes (and how David is trying to get Walter to join him before disabling him, and taking his place on the Covenant) are the most fascinating scenes in the movie.

The Covenant ship and its hardware and technology were as great as they were in Prometheus, despite still being way more advanced then the tech in the original Alien.

The ending while predictable when it came to the reveal that Walter was David in disguise after they left the Engineer city, was still good and creepy, with David planting two Facehugger embryos along with the other (around) 1000 human embryos (probably to use the colonist as hosts to continue his experiments), and sending a final message from the Covenant as Walter before continuing on its journey to Origae-6.

The cinematography, the locations and the effects were beautiful (duh). No one directs sci-fi movies like Ridley Scott.

The Not So Great:

While I did care about most of the characters, they are complete idiots (even though I thought they were less idiotic then the ones in Prometheus, that doesn't say much). They walk around in a newly discovered alien world with no protective gear (not even hazard suits), some touch stuff that causes disaster, they trust a complete stranger and some of them separate from the main group when they know a deadly alien creature could show up anytime (and then they get killed).

The CG on the Neomorph backburster when it is no longer covered in blood looked average.

I could see the twist at the end (where Walter is actually David) coming from a mile away (though it was still a good ending).

The growing time from a chestburster to a full grown Xeno was really fast and reminded me of the AVP movies (even the time for a Facehugger to impregnate someone was really fast). The second Xeno (the one at the end of the movie) grew even way faster then the one from earlier.

The tone changes drastically some times.

Overall, Alien Covenant is a satisfying movie that returns the Alien franchise back to its horror routes, yet still having some of the action elements from Aliens. Most of the characters were great, though some were clearly only there to killed by alien monsters. The effects and cinematography were fantastic and it was a lot of fun. I can't wait to see where the story goes on from here and how it all ties into the original Alien movie from 1979.

I though that it was better then Prometheus, and it is my third favorite movie in the Alien franchise.

Hey - we've just stumbled upon a planet that's closer than the one we spent 10 years analyzing for colonization. Let's land right away without finding out what it might hold. And sure, let's take almost the entire crew along - just to destroy the entire mission (which includes 2000 people) in case we lose the ground crew. And let's leave people unable to think straight aboard the mother ship. That's the only way to be sure. And have one of them oppose the idiot (who's of course in charge) constantly, only to corroborate his clearly suicidal command only minutes later. And the not-really-ripley character joins this idiocy at the very end of the movie. It's like the presence of the Engineer planet (I didn't notice the planet was this one, oops) caused all humans drop half of their brains for a reason. Stupid characters, who created just for duying, broken storyline from prometheus, that made the character of Dr Shaw look really dumb, Michael Fassbender is really good here, but the whole movie concentrates about him. Stupid storyline, where, again, stupid colinists go th an unexplored planet without any precautios, like space suits? Hazmat suits? Or maybe a breathe mask? You know, in case of some infections (spoiler - there are some very nasty infections). No? Ok, good for you, you did the right thing to die in this movie, dear colonists. All the deaths are made dramatically, like we must feel something about it, but we don't as there is absolutely no character disposition. To understand who is husband or wife of whom, you need to watch youtube videos about it, some "extra" features, but I want to see this in the movie, because movies are to tell stories, correct? Without any wheelchairs, like such videos.
And the most dissapointing is actually alien, who is not "perfect organism" anymore, because it sucks, for the whole movie it killed only guys who were laying on the ground, and the ones who were naked in the shower. In any other situations alien get his ass kicked by everybody. The lore is broken, as there is no more mystery around the alien, the scene of the birth of the alien is stupid, alien here looks as not something scary, but as something wrong and idiotic.

Guys, really, I can't believe that anyone give it 10 out of 10. I understand that there are different opinions, but obvious stupidity and the plot wholes must be obvious to everyone. The filming itself is nice, really, beutiful and nice. I give 1 point for this.

P.S. The best role of James Franco

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In 1979, Alien was the unintended problem of being peace that was because of no problem; in 2017, Alien Covenant is about the dynamic of peace that's because no problem. Naturally, peace is the goal of the universe, but peace being at the expense of the idea that its anti was possible seems to be the underlying meaning of Alien Covenant, an effective allegory about the paradox of the anti destroying itself so that the self is protected. At a deeper level, the sequel to Prometheus tells a very well-designed story about the beauty of an original replication. David manages to create the xenomorphs, in the process reflecting himself onto his creation, but the process is also just a replication of an ancient process that was started by the Engineers; ergo the effort of being an original replication.

Playing Daniels, an obvious allusion to Ripley, Katherine Waterston's true role is to just be a device for David, both metaphorically and literally as the film ends: in the first act, the contrived tension between Daniels and Oram is a metaphor for needless opposition as a reaction to hierarchy (and the film's theme is to attack hierarchy), and yet the irony of this is that the example of needless opposition on display is meant to be attacked, but the source of the paradox is hierarchy.
Alien Covenant is the very sharp, very keen self-awareness of understanding the true nature of paradox.

Original freedom was the mistake of self-awareness. Self-awareness means division, and thus destruction. The next stage being to separate freedom from anti by duplicating absence is also a mistake, because it betrays the meaning of absence. The solution, and the "probable" allegory of Alien Covenant is that the absence of discrepancy means to replicate freedom being separated from anti. Anti is need, and freedom not being need is the same as freedom anti being anti. Anti being anti is anti, because just being anti is the possibility of no anti, therefore it seems that to actually defeat hostility, an proactive sense of hostility is needed, which makes sense relative to the storytelling of Alien Covenant.

Many characters in the film have a theme, including Upworth and Ricks: in light of the movie's philosophy that the universe needs hostility, what's remarkable about the duo of Upworth and Ricks is that though they spend the vast majority of the film being sources of reason, their deaths at the very end of the story are extremely clichéd and trope-like. The sources of reason become sources of amusement and traditionalism, and yet the parallel is meant to be revolutionary!

When it comes to Elizabeth Shaw, and her final fate, Alien Covenant is simply being an exploitative user of Prometheus while not giving anything back in return: but this is okay, because David's story about revolution and attacking hierarchy is a worthwhile substitute for Elizabeth Shaw's story post-Prometheus. Better yet, the death and type of death of Elizabeth Shaw represents the intelligence of self-awareness being a false bias.

All in all, Alien Covenant is an impressive sequel considering its generic make-up and story concept

Prometheus showed us that he was past his prime, and any ability that he once had, was lost in a fest pool of gibberish and poor direction. So we move onto Alien: Covenant, and one can say Ridley has continued in his path of being an irrelevant movie maker, it is really time for him to end his career. This film felt like a lesson in amateur cinema, there are story telling decisions in this film that have been seen and done 100 times before, but somehow Ridely thought, lets do it 101 times. This film has zero innovation and some of the editing choices are very bad, some scenes drag on needlessly, in an attempt to build drama, but it falls flat ever time. Without spoiling the story, some examples of the amateur story telling is - "don't go there, ok lets go there", "we shouldn't do that, ok lets do that", "don't shoot inside the ship, ok lets shoot inside the ship" There is not much to be positive about with regards to the story telling in this film, after 20 minutes, you know exactly what is going to happen, and the way it has been edited and directed, it feels telegraphed and lazy. The dialogue between characters is poor, very poor, and the connection between the cast is off. I didn't know much about the film going i,n but lets just say, it adds zero to the franchise and doesn't add to Prometheus. Time to hang up the coat Ridley, your ideas are old and so very predictable to a point that I thought this film might be a spoof. Expand

The buildup is great, but payoff is just *meh* at best. Characters are barely developed, aside from Fassbender's characters which are done rather well. The movie seems to not know what it wants to be: a horror? A Sci-Fi action? Philosophical drama? It's this mishmash that ultimately makes it stutter and never get momentum. It's connection to Prometheus is sloppily done and it feels like a huge section of story is missing. The writing in general feels like a highlight reel from all previous movies in the franchise giving it an inconsistent feel. Effects and cinematography were outstanding. Overall: Alien Covenant just feels out of place and seems too eager to harvest the best aspects of all the movies before it. But this mixture coupled with little character development and a choppy narritive make the movie feel like a disappointment. AC isn't a bad movie, just a disappointing one. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A movie full of amazing sets, amazing acting, amazing effects, amazing visuals but like others have said not overly convincing decisions made by the characters. Having said that they weren't all brilliant scientists like some are making out and "mother" did say the new planet was a better match that where they were originally going but they could have added that its their duty to investigate a signal in space as it might well be a distress call. This alone would help solve the biggest problem with the decisions in the movie. Promethius got a lot of bad press for being to heavy on the philosophical creation stuff and light on Aliens action this is somewhere in the middle. Unfortunately that will upset those who loved the mind bending Promethius and others who want an outright Aliens horror. I hope everyone can appreciate that its somewhere in the middle and in that respect it is truly an exceptional movie. Expand

The good is I found this movie to be enjoyable while at times I felt it had some unnecessarily long scenes that lingered. I wish they didn't spend 40 minutes before descending down to the planet. Characters were likable albeit your typical bad decision making fodder. Effects were great with the exception of some CGI shots. To me it had just about the right amount of drama/plot to action ratio. I dont really understand the hate from many reviewers. There are gaps in plot and timeline issues when put side by side with other alien movies but lets be honest its an Aliens movie and they have muddled up the plot up over the years. This movie does a decent enough job of cleaning up the mess but still leaves many questions in the end. I had fun watching it and as a fan look forward to more. Its I'd say the third best Alien film. It is quite a bit better than Prometheus, which I find to be an excellent film, although maybe not quite as good as the first Alien but far better than the train wreck that was James Cameron's Aliens and the films that followed. The people who dislike this movie are uneducated and unintelligible people who have no respect for true art and merely crave senseless violence and gore instead of a symbolic, beautiful, and disturbing existential masterpieces that touches on topics of creation, religion, sexuality, narcissism, and taboos. This film is very much like a puzzle and it unlocks a new piece to its deep and complex story upon each additional viewing instead of spoon-feeding it's plot to the troglodyte marvel super hero movie watching crowd and wannabe elitist pseudo-intellectuals who praise films such as La La Land and Moonlight that seem to be surrounding it and making their absolutely absurd opinions quite clear. Their hatred for this film is born of a fear of inferiority. This film challenges their intelligence and is over their heads so in turn they place themselves above it and point down to say, "look how dumb this movie is". The diminishing intellect of the populace is why we can't have nice things like Alien: Covenant and instead are given a slew of cookie cutter oscar movies and dull superhero and action movies. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So basically i went to see this because i wanted to see what would happen when david and the girl left from prometheus met 'the creators'. I was hoping for a sort of dramatic '2001' moment but boy was it ever ....'not'.
In fact they dispatched that whole story avenue in 1 brief cgi scene.
So much for that.
Right from the beginning this film plays as a parody of
other 'b' sci-fi films .
If you thought the ship crew was dumb and reckless in prometheus you'll absolutely hate or love these guys even more depending on your preference .
Like i said it is like a parody and worth watching because it is so funny how idiotic everyone is.
The producers race thru the film ticking off every action aliens cliche scene with great speed like they have a grocery list.
It's not scary,horrifying or even creepy. You just laugh.
The lead female character occasionally tries to be like Ripley but she's too short,has a bad haircut and is always on the verge of crying.
And these people are in charge of escorting thousands of people to a new planet lol. The synthetic guys are the most interesting characters but even they jump the shark in silly scenes occasionally.
No wonder Ridley Scott said he could keep whipping these films off forever. The ending is like the ending of a regular tv show where they want us to tune in next week for more wacky adventures.
Anyways it's worth a laugh if you liked Mystery Science Theatre 3000 episodes except you and your friends can add your own clever dialogue. It's not even in 3d.

I thought it was really bold and hugely weird for a "blockbuster". I really don't uderstand the picking holes that is so de rigueur these days. It was so much better than Prometheus, which I really liked despite it's flaws (big improvement on that - be assured). Beautiful to look at, great if slightly drawn characters (it's a horror film), an absolutely sublime performance by Fassbender, and a terrifying sense of escalating doom. It features some of the most disturbing scenes in horror history. I won't spoil these, except to mention they involve the implications of what a certain android has been up to for the last 10 years, and what happens...after that ending! Exquisitely dark and almost Lovecraftian... it leaves a lot to the imagination and that's what I love it so. It's not a traditional horror film and slows down to become something different, and in my opinion better in the second half. If you liked Prometheus you're going to love this. It is Prometheus's child, so if you didn't like the style of that (rather than the execution) it may not be for you) The (original) Alien bits were the weakest bits in my opinion. This was more like a gothic horror in space, and lets face it Ridley only put the Alien in, due to the backlash against "it" not being in last film. He has said repeatedly he thought it was "cooked", and that was a good call. However, this is turning into something far more interesting. I think, if you want an Alien(s) remake, with the minimalism and realism of the space trucking original rather than impressionistic dark romanticism, you'll be dissapointed. But I am not that man. While I enjoyed Prometheus in all of its cryptic and philosophical glory, I still desired more time visually spent on the alien creatures themselves, and let me tell you when they are sparingly shown in Covenant they are truly stunning and absolutely vicious to the point of extreme gore and utter chaos. This aspect however seemed to detract Ridley Scott's original Engineer/creator/Shaw plot line into oblivion as it was extremely glossed over rather quickly and unexplained which was a huge let down for me. If this would've added about 45 min of backstory and extra footage surrounding those gaping questions it could've been a masterpiece though it was still excellent. I especially was left a bit underwhelmed with Shaw's mysterious fate. Apparently their stories aren't finished according to Scott. Either way the plotting of Covenant still rolled on fine with David the android becoming even more insane and villainous with his experimentation and intentions. Michael Fassbender's brilliant double roles as David/Walter steal the show as he did in Prometheus with utter captivation and enthralling characterization. The thing that strikes me the most about Covenant was its magnificent visuals throughout with the scenery, set pieces, and aliens. Some of the best cgi I've ever seen in film as well which these days can be hit or miss. Overall this is another amazing entry into the Alien franchise that i believe has been truly reborn with Prometheus and now Covenant and will hopefully continue soon. Expand

I wouldn't trust the crew of the Covenant to run a closing shift at a Wendy's, let alone helm a colonization effort. On top of that, the story picks up where Prometheus left off, keeping a lot of those silly elements in play. Characters muse about the origin of human life, but who cares? The Prometheus connections seem haphazardly thrown in to create a attachment between the two films, and doesn't really answer any of our questions about the Engineers. Though Fassbender does a great job in his role, the ending for his character is predictable and leaves me wanting more mystery. There are a few things the movie does deliver on, and that is the jumps scares and great set design. As soon as the decision was made to land on an unknown, unstudied planet, I lost any investment in the film, as I knew that logic would be thrown out of the window whenever the plot needed advancing, (ironically, Daniels even points out how ridiculous the idea was). A predictable, yet head-scratching installment. Alien has, in my opinion, come to be a very abused and mishandled franchise. I will however admit, that the idea of a crazy robot flying through space conducting horrific experiments on 2000 unsuspecting colonists is a brilliant. Expand

Alien Covenant has beenCan somebody please tell Ridley Scott to stop making any more Alien movies, congratulations you got it spectacularly right once and now it’s gone. Get over it. Move on and stop with these unnecessary prequels. Alien Covenant has been described as the third best Alien movie, believe me that is not a compliment. If you thought Prometheus was enough to ruin the franchise well then, Alien Covenant only makes it worse. Much worse. And by its creator of all people. How ironic. Alien marked a turning point for horror movies and raised the standard so it’s disheartening to see Alien Covenant fall so far below the standard we expect.
Set ten years after Prometheus we get even more backstory to the Alien, complete with yet another expendable crew, another robot and yes, another lazy story. It’s nothing you haven’t seen already. Taking all the bad from the previous Alien movies along with all the bad from other horror movies you’ve seen before, mixes them together throws in a couple of gory scenes for dramatic effect and you’re left with a movie that falls into the exact same trap as Prometheus. No character development so when it’s time to start killing off the crew one by one nobody really cares. I’m officially done with the Alien franchise, I refuse to contribute any more to what can only be described as a cash grab. What a bitterly disappointing end to an iconic movie. Under no circumstance would I recommend Alien Covenant to anyone, so you’ve been warned.

It certainly had the right visual effects, scenic moments, and iconic monsters doing their thing to take down a host of characters, but there was something distinctly missing that makes the Alien franchise great and unique. Part of the problem is that there is not one moment in the movie where I had to guess who was going to die first, or where our monsters are coming from. This is a bit of a problem, because as a result, it lacks suspense, and it also lacks the mysterious allure of the xenomorph or neomorph. The movie also lacks the claustrophobic feeling that defined what made the original Alien movies a horror. The acting was fine, but the shortfall seems to be in the writing. The antagonist in the movie certainly seemed philosophical, but seemed to lack the hubris that otherwise would have made him a great villain. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Meh - Loved Prometheus, grew up with Aliens, was very disappointed in Alien: Covenant. I thought we were passed the whole people land on planet, there is an alien ship, people run form aliens shtick. I don't care about Aliens anymore, we got 4 movies of Aliens. After Prometheus I thought the series had matured into something broader, it hasn't. This new movie is basically the same old thing rehashed with no new answers. I went to this for the story on the Architects to be fleshed out, instead they get 30 seconds of screen time and we get the story of David with a run from the Alien/s shtick for the last 30 minutes. And the aliens don't even look that good, they went CG with something that traditionally looked great as a suit. Expand

It includes some thoughtful questionsLike Alien and Prometheus, this film focuses on the tragic outcome of a space expedition. In many ways, views should know precisely what to expect from this film: it's a hybrid of Prometheus and Alien. It includes some thoughtful questions about life and finding meaning as well as alien monsters and action. Although every Alien film has included horror aspects, this film seemed to emphasize the horror atmosphere and tone more than previous movies. I felt that it balances and continues the themes of Prometheus and Alien well, while also having a unique identity.

Characters: Strong acting and writing. This is a story about a group of people instead of a story about one person. Think about the difference between Alien and Aliens - the first was about a group and the second was about one character who had interactions with a group. People who tried to focus on a single protagonist in this film seem to be disappointed.

Story: Many elements of the story will be familiar to viewers. There are some new twists, but for the most part you'll know what to expect if you're aware of this genre. Still, the story is satisfying and contributes to the larger Alien universe while also include a few shocking moments.

Sound/Visual effects: The more you're aware of the music of Prometheus and Alien, the more you'll enjoy this soundtrack. The music is largely derived from those previous films and is appropriately evocative. The visual design and effects were breathtaking, I saw no problems.

Final thoughts: I highly recommend this movie if you like sci-fi, horror, or both. Particularly if you are a fan or Prometheus or Alien, this is a must-see. In my opinion, the Alien movies typically struggle in two places: the opening, which can go on far too long without action, and the ending, which can seem too final and lack a feeling of potential continuation. For the first time, I thought that an Alien movie had a strong beginning, middle, and ending. This movie expertly expands on the idea of what an Alien is and what can be done in the franchise.

This movie will answer a lot of your unanswered questions from "Prometheus", and the director understood that he could offer a bit more information on the universe he created 38 years ago. Picture is magnificent (CGI is overdone in couple of scenes but overall well used). In this movie you will for the first time in 3 decades have a clean, bold view of the creatures. Story is very well developed in my opinion and resumes in a great ending, with a lot more questions of course, specifically about the engineers. If you like the series you will surely enjoy this entry. Expand

In reality, a crew like the movie, can't exist. I want to try to spoiler but i will not. This is the most bad movie that i've seen in my life. I will put 0 coz i don't want to see another movie with this potentials ruined by a stupid screenplay. Stay out of this movie. Expand

Was this written on a napkin by someone that read the back of a alien dvd box? What's more it cuts the masterpiece Prometheus adrift and makes both films entirely pointless. Neither sequels prequels to each other or the rest of the alien films. This is more fitting in th alien v predator franchise where 'anything can happen at any time'. This film needs rebooting with whatever the original script was. The studio script needs to be incinerated. You can see with Scots body language he is not happy with this garbage. If you like national geographic you might like the first half hour for the nature shots.
This film is quite literally a slap in the face to people that have a IQ and attention span of sufficient size to follow the Prometheus story and enjoy a journey into the alien universe rather than just seeing aliens over and over again for no reason and with 5 second gestation periods because the film needs to be under 2 hours. If this was AVP, guardians of the galaxy or a comic book movie I'd give it a 5....but this is serious scifi where detail matters for immersion. I'd say blame the script - but Scot should never have accepted it in this state.

Expand

But, to me, the aliens look like people in costumes. The plot relies heavily on the most recent Alien movie, "Prometheus". So if you haven't seen it lately, you might want a refresher. Things move along with some startling plot developments that I really didn't get, and they are not explained very well either. Trying not to give anything away here. But, really, the most ridiculous waste of about 15 minutes of the movie is an extended scene where a robot teaches another to play the flute! What??? WTH? What does this have to do with anything? There is definitely some alien action and some of it is satisfying. But, mainly, it is very predictable. The last 20 or 30 minutes are pretty exciting. But, I just sat there waiting for this movie to get good. For me, it just never did. Probably I was expecting too much. You might really love it. I didn't. Expand

It starts with him and it ends with him. I had some pretty high expectations after being disappointed by Prometheus, but I guess I set myself up for a letdown. This movie is okay and as far as meatfest gore it gets a passing grade. There just isn't much development here and the best parts of the movie are the tete-a-tete between Walter and David. There are a few disturbing scenes in the movies, so I would advise taking children under 10. Genocide is not a topic for very, young minds. Expand
