(seriously did everyone in the movie forget that calendar that predicts everything, i know it was stupid in the first movie but i thought someone would have brought it up) the special effects and costumes are good but there completely wasted when the plot is not worthy of it. this has all the problems of the first film but it feels slightly exacerbated by the fact this one seems so padded,pointless and lazy and only exists cause people went to see the first one.… Expand

I was not entertained! It was like being in a bad acid trip, but with lasting depression! Still admire Johhny Depp regardless of his personal life. Just not one of his better movies!

who asked for a sequel to first film? whilst some elements of alice in wonderland II are better than the first honestly this is the worst movie of 2016 for me personally.

Easily one of the worst theatrical releases I've seen all year. The script was laughable, and at times it seemed like a comedy making fun of too much bad CGI in films, but sadly, this was not the case. Boring story and lack of any type of interesting plot that can be identified with. Nice special effects but nothing compelling about the characters or their development. I didn't laugh once and was seriously thinking of walking out because it was tedious and uninteresting, and I had paid over $20 to see it in an iMax theater. Someone needs to tell the folks that made this movie that no matter how many millions of dollars you spend on special effects, if the story isn't a good one, then it's still a bad movie.

Moreover, I'm so tired of women in lead roles in mainstream movies. They ruined the latest Star Wars that way by making a girl the lead and every ethnic minority besides Asian as the rest of the cast.… Expand

A family movie with a plot involving the Mad Hatter trying to find his family. Gee, I wonder if he'll find them. The suspense! Seriously though, this is the best you can do, Disney?

This whimsical sequel is rather boring and the plot is full of holes. It is rather bland but if you loved the first one you will like this one. It is rather bland but if you loved the first one you will like this one. Johnny Depp reprises his role as The Mad Hatter except this time it is stupider and he isn't really ever happy. He isn't happy because he found a piece of his hat that was ruined and he decided that because of finding a small piece of his hat that he wanted his family back. Alice somehow does not agree and then when the Hatter becomes upset she agrees. In order to get his family back Alice must defeat Time played by Sacha Baron Cohen. Time is the best part of the movie and he is still pretty annoying. Alan Rickman reprises his role so since he's dead this may make you want to see the movie.
Overall, a bland/boring film not directed by Tim Burton.… Expand

This movie was pretty looking. Sometimes. On every other aspect, the movie was very bad. This universe has the potential of developing something special but instead aims at the lowest common denominator.

Alice Though the Looking Glass is a needlessly complicated title to a needlessly produced sequel that must be declared needless viewing. Whether you are looking at the characters and their conflicts, story, plot, or whatever, this movie fails. In a nuclear bomb to the original Alice in Wonderland, it portrays Alice as a villain, willing to steal from others rather than ask in order to do something. People punish or scold others for stupid reasons or for the sake of a plotline.
It is also worth noting that the movie never elaborates on the so-called looking glass. Might it refer to the ocean of time the movie spends time with. Because my advice for the makers of this movie is to refer to the "looking glass" on the internet in order to figure out why this movie wasn't appreciated. The whole movie serves a series of events and bland elements and nothing else.… Expand

Story-telling fascinates me hence I dissect movies and there is certainly something to be learned here.

At the core the story is a conflict between family members: Alice and her mother; the Mad Hatter and his father; the white queen andStory-telling fascinates me hence I dissect movies and there is certainly something to be learned here.

At the core the story is a conflict between family members: Alice and her mother; the Mad Hatter and his father; the white queen and her sister the red queen. Rooted as these conflicts are in the past, they shape the present and the future. It is the past and thus it cannot be altered.
Or can it?
Well, Alice gains that ability by stealing a time traveling machine from Time himself. Thus she whirls back through the ages to undo the past and thus alter the future. Time travelling is fascinating as it allows for all kinds of complications and if the movie had kept to that one story-line it might have allowed for more. But someone discarded the rule that less is more and swung hundred and eighty degrees about: we get more. And with each added sub plot, cast member and side trip there is less to each of them.
The whole cast of the first movie, for instance, returns in this movie, but few have a substantial role to play. Yet there is at least one time consuming pointless scene with them. There is a scene in which Alice jumps back through the mirror to the real world, gets locked up in a mental institute, escapes and jumps back through the mirror to wonderland that could have been left out as it adds nothing to the story. There is James Harcourt, whom we suspect to have been cast as a love interest, but at least that development didn't survive the cutting table, although he is still in it.

With so many wasteful time eaters there aren't enough minutes in the hour to develop anything so finally the tale gets to be wrapped up with kiss-and-make-up solutions sprinkled with in your face moral lessons, the most atrocious of which is the one that solves the issues between the white queen and the red. All the latter wants is for the first to say sorry! The whole first movie thus is caused by one small incident that could have been solved by an excuse. The root of all evil is a lie about a stolen piece of cake.

This is the kind of 'Kindergarten'(quoting Time from the movie) psychology that is used to propel the story and so morally bankrupts it. Because what is all the fuss about if you can make it go away by a kiss, a cuddle, a smile or a pat on the shoulder?

But what is the final lesson of the story? When in dire straits just wonder the problem away, for no reality induced limitations can stop your will from overcoming obstacles. Therefore your suffering is caused by your own lack of imagination. I bet all the economists and politicians in the world haven't thought of that one: they can learn a thing or two from Walt Disney.

But wait a minute... Isn't not the upshot of the whole movie that one can not alter the past, but only learn from it? So Alice's message that one can do anything if one just let their imagination run wild is actually at odds with the lesson of the movie. What gives?

But look how bad this really gets. Her attempt to save one man almost undoes the whole universe. She runs wild with her imagination and wonderland faces disaster. And nobody, except Wilkins, Time's butler, notices it. Alice is as dumb as Time makes her out to be, and so are all her friends, who fail to see how dangerous she has become. The only thing she cares about is her petty feelings: she feels bad because her friend Hatter feels bad about his dad. And fixing this takes precedence above anything else: including wrecking existence. But all hurrah her at the end anyway instead of locking her up as the true menace to society. The movie ultimately defeats its own message.

But there is an even bigger crime. Alice movies are, I think, feasts of creative nonsense and subtile mirth, but this movie is so far removed from any of it. It is bone dry with the exception of Time, played by Sacha Baron Cohen. As a matter of fact, the movie tries to infuse reason into unreason. Explaining Alice and the world she is in is the death knell of the story. "Why so serious?" says the Joker. Why indeed?

This movie works on a superficial level. It is so overburdened with the superfluous and the trite that it gets undone and neither the cast nor the cgi can save it. It even fails to hold to its own moral lessons. Ultimately it will fade in time as on any level it is just a 'Kindergarten' movie.… Expand

I was under the impression that Tim Burton was the director? I wish Tim had directed and rewrote it. Why why why why 150 why The movie had a redundancy I did not like, and the characters were not involved?

The visuals were very impressive but the story was a bit underwhelming. They could of came up with a better one than Hatter's gone mad and they need to find his long lost family. It doesn't work as a time traveling movie either, in fact it's one of the worst I've ever seen, with hundreds of plot holes, forced situations, narrative inconsistencies and lack of explanation of certain events (for example, as they do near the end of The Mad Hatter and Alice to travel if they didn't have the chronosphere at that time? How did the Red Queen meet the master of time? Wasn't she locked away by the White Queen?
And speaking of new characters they are all horrendous. The Mad Hatter's family has no charm at all, the Time Master is a pretty pitiful combination of N Tropy and Robbie Rotten, and GOD he's unbearable, he even makes me CRINGE! And latter in the end he´s personality totally changes.... What?!
All this about time travel, the constant change in art style, and the great change that the series underwent make me think that this was going to be a different movie, even if it wasn't true. IS A STEAMPUNK STYLE NECESSARY IN A MORE REALISTIC FANTASY WORLD!? THEY KILLED THE ALICE SERIES!
One of the worst movies I've seen in a long time, it's just a nonsense of a mix, randomly placed things as if they didn't belong to the same universe/movie.… Expand
