Alice Through the Looking Glass is a relatively solid kids movie with brilliant visual effects and a message about family and time even though the characters, humour and dialogue falls rather flat.

I was expecting less of this movie since it got horrible reviews - but it was amazing. The special effects were amazing, the plot was interesting, and we know more about the stories of many characters. Critics don't like fantasy films.

The film is an inspiring work, however, for a released six years later sequence, there are many details that may go unnoticed if you do not remember Alice in Wonderland.

The farewell Alice was fast and made me want more. I managed to hold on to the story even if not a fan, just hope it's not a failure at the box office.

So much better than the first. The plot sucked you in since the beginning, the colors were more vibrant in this one. It showed young girls and boys that they have their own individual rights.

Alice Through the Looking Glass deliveries a rich story, which may look silly at first, but it represents the impossible, which is a great subject of the film. The characters are richer than in the original and the visuals are different, but still equally appealing. The story is a symbolism for a lot of things, which is one of the greatest things of the movie. It talks indirectly about sexism, depression and most important: it has a message, it makes you think and it makes you believe, just like every fairytale should be. Incredible, you should definitely watch and think deeply of the meaning this movie has. Also great messages about family and dreams. Different from the first one, but still gorgeous. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think this movie has received a lot of bad reviews however I still believe this was an awesome movie, it may not be my absolute favourite movie of all time but it was definitely an interesting movie with amazing costumes and special effects. The story itself was decent and it had a morale behind the story about Time and how it is not an enemy, which I really loved. Perhaps the characters could have explored their roles more to make it interesting and different. I am mostly impressed with Alice in this movie, Mia Wasikowska has greatly improved in her acting. Overall this is a movie to watch, it should get more credit than critics are giving it, I would judge this movie for yourself rather than listen to what others are saying. Thumbs up! Expand

(seriously did everyone in the movie forget that calendar that predicts everything, i know it was stupid in the first movie but i thought someone would have brought it up) the special effects and costumes are good but there completely wasted when the plot is not worthy of it. this has all the problems of the first film but it feels slightly exacerbated by the fact this one seems so padded, pointless and lazy and only exists cause people went to see the first one. Visually this movie is a real treat. I enjoyed the lighthearted performances, especially Mia Wasikowska as the plucky Alice, and of course I fell hard for the visual effects, Dan Hennah's production design, and Colleen Atwood's costume designs. Sadly, all the world-building that was set up in the first film took forever to manifest into a sequel, and so when we get answers to certain questions posed by the first film as well as the Caroll lore, they don't feel revelatory so much as just "oh, so that's why such-and-such".

Still, I think the wait was worth it. This time around, it actually feels like there's a heart beating at the center of all the eye candy. Last time, the story was so straightforward and predictable the visuals were the only thing holding the film together. Now, the themes are more clearly presented and Alice's adventure in Underland is more of an inner journey. Underneath all the shiny gloss, this movie actually has strong personal growth messages and deals with difficult topics such as loss and acceptance. As someone who has lost someone precious recently, at the end of the film I came out feeling inspired.

The filmmakers tap into both the darkness and the lightheartedness of Carroll's world in broad strokes, even if they don't really get or even attempt to do justice to the deeper social allegories. Linda Woolverton's script is more blunt and brute force than it is subversive, but the film's feminist touches are thankfully not as ham-fisted as they were in the first film. Wasikowska is wonderful, Depp is... well, Depp, Hathaway is pleasingly fairy-like and subdued, and Carter continues to chew scenery. But the real MVP here is Sasha Baron Cohen, whose portrayal of Time is an obvious highlight.

Little bits and pieces of Carrollian lore are much appreciated. Humpty Dumpty as well as the large talking chess pieces make a brief appearance, and the fish and frog people are more prominent. Some of Carroll's trademark words and phrases appear especially early on, but the world-building doesn't get too in-depth beyond that. We see the origin of the rivalry between the White Queen and the Red Queen, as well as the reason why it's always one minute to teatime at the Mad Hatter's table when Alice first arrives in Underland.

I can see why this film might not cast its spell on everyone because it's so fast-paced and often feels like a movie for kids rather than for those well-versed in this universe. But if you're on the fence, you may end up liking or even loving it! There's more to the story and themes than what's just on the surface. I wasn't at all disappointed and will watch this again in the future.

Nice special effects but nothing compelling about the characters or their development. I didn't laugh once and was seriously thinking of walking out because it was tedious and uninteresting, and I had paid over $20 to see it in an iMax theater. Someone needs to tell the folks that made this movie that no matter how many millions of dollars you spend on special effects, if the story isn't a good one, then it's still a bad movie.

Moreover, I'm so tired of women in lead roles in mainstream movies. They ruined the latest Star Wars that way by making a girl the lead and every ethnic minority besides Asian as the rest of the cast.

"Alice Through the Looking Glass" Is Shamelessly Worse Than Its Predecessor

"Alice in Wonderland" directed by Tim Burton was a flawless success at the box office in 2010, and with just reasons, the colorful and gothic style of the team managed to give them two Academy Awards (for Art Direction and Costume Design) . Lewis Carroll's classics have been adapted to the big screen eleven times, and apparently it is feasible creation of other few. The scarcity of the sequel is Burton, his absence is irrefutable and although works as executive producer, his imagination and taste cries out for the reins of the film. This time, James Bobin (The Muppets) is director, his vision is broad and great-looking, but comparisons with Burton make presence on each frame evidenced. It seems that Disney forgets that it is better win a victory that a failure because of the ambition.

From a screenplay written by Linda Woolverton, adapted to the books of Lewis Carroll, "Alice Through the Looking Glass" presents to an Alice (Mia Wasikowska) a little more older - really - returning of offshore after three years, preserving the illusion of return to sea. But her hopes are frustrated when her former aspiring boyfriend, Hamish (obnoxious and pretentious played by Leo Bill) takes over the boat her father and her house, inciting her to sell the important boat, stay with the house and with a humiliating and discriminatory work. Alice's problems do not stop there, the blue caterpillar (Alan Rickman, deceased and respected actor) visits her to seduce her to resolve certain matters of her interest in the Wonderland.
After an characteristic entrance of the Carroll books, Alice faces a terrible - and stupid, excuse the expression - news, her friend, the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) is slowly dying. The only solution to restore the vitality of the eccentric young is go back in time and help to recover his family apparently dead, experiencing millions of adventures and eccentricities, accompanied by spectacular landscapes and performances for nothing unpleasant. A small sub-plot is seen to involved in the story of Alice, the truth behind the White Queen (Anne Hathaway) and her sister, the Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter), an interesting addition to the footage.

The story is one of the fundamental obstacles, lack of a strong and wide idea, makes that the 113 minutes of duration becomes tedious, stressful and the worst soporific, making viewers to cover their mouths, but not of amazement, of boredom. It seemed as if Disney had chosen to adapt the drafts of the wastepaper basket of Carroll, yeah, they wanted that Hatter had importance in the plot, but the magic disappeared. A work of such magnitude should be edited precisely, but this time, they exaggerated.

Fantasy and adventure sequences are indeed impressive, accompanied by an exaggerated, but required use of visual effects, minor or equivalent to the of its predecessor. However, the lush visual effects aren't the sufficiently skilled to hide a slow pace, an inconsistent script and a pale and slight story.

Characters are distorted and dispel - some - of its strict behavior in books, however, Alice, Mad Hatter and the Red Queen steal all eyes. I'm in total disagreement that the role played by Mia Wasikowska is uniform, awkward and boring, not alluding to books and hampering adaptation, I believe that she is the precise woman for the role and if at some point has failed is the fault of the scriptwriters. Our blue caterpillar performed by professional and king of the acting ,Alan Rickman, was spectacular, serene and substantial, worthy of a so complete and amazing career of a man and an actor who will always be in the heart of the world, rest in peace, Alan.

This is the first time that Disney surprises, and not in the way that everyone thinks. With a clear influence of female discrimination in Hollywood and the capacity to decide, Bobin and Woolverton had to leave their idea, just like that, an idea. Slow, lacking of the energy, palpitating continuity and charisma of its predecessor, "Alice Through the Looking Glass" offers a visually majestic spectacle, however, they confused the audience with babies, we are not stupid, so many colors and singularities lack narrative imagination, I think that the 'Wonder' disappeared.

I laughed quite alot through the film and had no intention of wanting it to end because it was so interesting and comical, i paid £6 to see if in a high class cinema. Someone needs to applaud the people that made this movie as im sure they need to know, the story was amazing.

The lead role was definitely a strong one and im really pleased with the diversity they are trying to achieve recently in new and upcoming films, it would almost be bigoted to think otherwise. Especially Star Wars :)

Bobin's take on Alice, gives us a surprisingly enjoyable, fun, and colorful movie with a decent plot. Definitely better than the first one. Baron Cohen's terrific performance shines, Bonham Carter is good, Depp and Wasikowska give their all.

The “adults” played with their iPhones, ate mountains of popcorn, and comforted wailing infants. Meanwhile, the children sat quietly and watched the movie. For the rest of us, the movie was colorful but full of anachronisms. Alice the captain of a cargo ship? Yikes! An episode where Alice is almost treated in a hospital for “female hysteria”? Meaningless to anyone who is not a Victorian scholar. I also watched the trailer again, whose background music was Grace Slick singing “White Rabbit.” False advertising. Alice walked through a mirror – no “Drink Me, Eat Me” in this film. Maybe nowadays this is called a “mashup” – but to me it was just a movie that made little sense on any level. But given all this craziness – the badly behaved adults in the audience and the nutty script, I didn’t hate this film. For most of it, there was just a lot of colorful running around, kind of like a cinematic roller coaster, and if you paid attention and stayed sane until the end of the film when the search for the Hatter’s family kicks in, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter actually provided some real emotion and story. A family movie with a plot involving the Mad Hatter trying to find his family. Gee, I wonder if he'll find them. The suspense! Seriously though, this is the best you can do, Disney?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. -Alice Through the Looking Glass is a 2016 American fantasy adventure film, directed by James Bobin, written by Linda Woolverton, and produced by Tim Burton. It is loosely based on Through the Looking-Glass by Lewis Carroll, and is the sequel to the 2010 film Alice in Wonderland. The film stars Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Mia Wasikowska, Rhys Ifans, Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen, and features the voices of Alan Rickman, Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen and Timothy Spall.

-The films tells the story about Alice spending her past few years following her father's footsteps and sailing the high seas, she comes across a magical looking glass that takes her to the fantastical realm of Wonderland and finds that Tarrant Hightopp who is acting madder than usual and wants to discover the truth about his family's survival of the attack of the Jabberwocky. Alice borrows a "Chronosphere", a metallic object inside the chamber of the Grand Clock which powers all time. Returning to the past, she comes across friend and enemies at different point of their lives and embarks on a race to save the Hatter before time runs out.

-The film was released by Walt Disney Pictures on May 27, 2016 and is Rickman's final film role, following his death in January 2016. Upon the release, the film received generally negative reviews from critics.

--Production:

-Principal photography began on August 4, 2014, at Shepperton Studios. In August 2014, filming took place in Gloucester Docks which included the use of at least four historic ships: Kathleen and May, Irene, Excelsior and the Earl of Pembroke, the last of which was renamed The Wonder for the filming. Principal photography ended on October 31, 2014.

--Critical response:

-Alice Through the Looking Glass has received negative reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes the film has a rating of 29%, based on 148 reviews, with an average rating of 4.5/10. The site's critical consensus reads, "Alice Through the Looking Glass is just as visually impressive as its predecessor, but that isn't enough to cover for an underwhelming story that fails to live up to its classic characters." On Metacritic the film has a score of 34 out of 100, based on 42 critics, indicating "generally unfavorable reviews". On CinemaScore, audiences gave the film an average grade of "A–" on an A+ to F scale, the same grade earned by its predecessor.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After the failings of Burton's rendition of Wonderland I was going into this film expecting to hate it. However I was surprised that it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. There are some notable improvements over the original film for example Wonderland is actually bright and colorful as opposed to the previous film with a dull color palate. The lead actress actually tries to stay invested this time and gives an attempt to give an emotional performance. Sacha Baron Coen pays as Time and he is fun to watch since he is aware that he is in a mediocre film and decides to just do whatever he wanted with his performance. The same can be applied to Helen Bahm Carter as well. Unfortunately the main problem with the first film is still present in this one. Said problem is that the script tries to add logic to a source material that is supposed to be the absence of logic. When they try to add logic to it, the problems with the film start to show. The time travel was easy to follow but it costed the characterization of the Red Queen since it was reveled that she became a mad tyrant after loosing the crown to her sister. This misses the point of the original source material since the appeal of the character is that she is really a child an adult's body and as a critique on the monarchy of Britain, In this case though the film tries to give her a tragic backstory but it falls flat since it was also revlead that she was responsible for kidnapping the Mad Matter's family and burned his village down. It is considered difficult to sympathize with her since she is responsible for so much death just because of a simple sibling rivalry. The Chesire Cat lost his charm even more when it shows that he is a child hood friend of the Mad Hatter because he was always the trickster character. by giving him an allegiance to his friends it ruins the mystery of the original character. There is a noticeable emphasis on the Mad Hatter due to the fact that he is played by Johnny Depp and is the loner which is present in a lot of Burton's films. Burton may not have directed this film but it does have his blue prints around it. It tries to be dark but it doesn't go far enough like it's predecessor. There is a scene with Alice being in an Asylum which doesn't really go anywhere after Alice escapes making the whole subplot pointless. To the film's credit it tries to have a moral and an admirable one at that which is that time does take away but it also gives and people should value what it gives. The fact that Alice wanted to give up her ship to help her mother get out of dept would have signified her finally letting go of her past but the lesson wasn't ;earned though because her mother rips the contract anyway. In conclusion this film would have been better if was an original family film if it didn't have the likeness of the Lewis Carrol novels. Expand

It is rather bland but if you loved the first one you will like this one. Johnny Depp reprises his role as The Mad Hatter except this time it is stupider and he isn't really ever happy. He isn't happy because he found a piece of his hat that was ruined and he decided that because of finding a small piece of his hat that he wanted his family back. Alice somehow does not agree and then when the Hatter becomes upset she agrees. In order to get his family back Alice must defeat Time played by Sacha Baron Cohen. Time is the best part of the movie and he is still pretty annoying. Alan Rickman reprises his role so since he's dead this may make you want to see the movie.
Overall, a bland/boring film not directed by Tim Burton.

Whether you are looking at the characters and their conflicts, story, plot, or whatever, this movie fails. In a nuclear bomb to the original Alice in Wonderland, it portrays Alice as a villain, willing to steal from others rather than ask in order to do something. People punish or scold others for stupid reasons or for the sake of a plotline.
It is also worth noting that the movie never elaborates on the so-called looking glass. Might it refer to the ocean of time the movie spends time with. Because my advice for the makers of this movie is to refer to the "looking glass" on the internet in order to figure out why this movie wasn't appreciated. The whole movie serves a series of events and bland elements and nothing else.

The previous love for the characters jumped into this one too and do I even have to compliment Johnny Depp's acting skills once again? Hope not. Anyway, although at first I thought the plot was a bit forced, it turned out to be not so predictable. The movie starts to get interesting pretty soon and it has a good morale and more than just a happy ending, it has a double happy ending to be precise. But I must say, in my opinion, some things and facts are a bit too complicated for children, who during the movie should have more than a couple of „but why mom?“ and might confuse them. As a fantasy movie it's pretty solid, the visuals are o.k. and it has original some original characteristics of course. As I was at about half movie I was going to rate it much worse, as things got too clogged and were happening without order, it was rather confusing for me,which I disliked. But it was actually pretty satisfactory when it all unfolded, making it a solid combination of fantasy and family movie. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to spend happily their evening in company of their kids (or parents). If you mind movies that don't logically connect all the facts and could make sense in our world, this movie is not for you, but if you are here to watch a movie that will relieve you of your negative thoughts and immerse you into a new world, you should give it a try! Although darker in both tone and look, director James Bobin has the advantage of making the film more interesting by virtue of a better story to tell. By balancing this positive against the obvious visual splendours enables all the elements to come together very satisfactorily. It goes without saying that his achievement here is of a considerably higher standard than Burton managed. That is not to say that the film doesn’t have its irritations. A little of the cutesy characters, Alice’s friends, go a long way and the transformer type robots are equally irksome. These quibbles aside however, the film is actually quite delightful. As Alice Mia Wasikowska has made great strides in the role and invests the character with much more colour this time around. Helena Bonham Carter is again good value as The Red Queen tossing off the odd funny line with consummate ease. Sacha Baron Cohen is a welcome new addition as Time Itself and Johnny Depp is far more palatable here as the hatter than he was in the previous film. Only Anne Hathaway’s bland depiction of the White Queen remains steadfastly disappointing. There is nothing, though, disappointing about the visual experience that the film undoubtedly is. Colleen Attwood’s costumes are again amazing and the make-up seamlessly duplicates the standard already set by the earlier film. Art Direction is stunningly imaginative and the visual effects are wonderful if you forgive the odd wobble here and there during the time travel sequences on the chronosphere. Overall, ‘Through the Looking Glass’ does at least raise the low bar set by its flatly conceived predecessor even if there is still room for improvement. Expand

Alice returns to the wonderland for a new adventure.

Based on the nearly 150 years old children's book, and a sequel to the 2010 film. Its quite a long gap for a follow up film, but the original cast has returned and directed by 'The Muppets' famed filmmaker. So, I was not expecting it since I considered the first film an average. All I wanted was a normal live-action 'Alice in Wonderland' films, but I disliked this weird make-ups and large head characters. In that perspective, this one was much better. Still, this is not the best, but definitely a lot better than the previous one.

A simple adventure story with nice graphics and performances. The Alice returns to the Wonderland for a new adventure where she has to cross the layers of the present, past and future. So in one word, this is a time travel theme in the fantasy genre. Mia Wasikowska ruled it, she was everywhere. She overran all other characters and takes the toughest challenge to achieve impossible.

Nearly a two hour journey into wonderland might make happy for little kids. Because it did not look like a normal fairytale, but very modern. This is not the Disney's best film, so I don't think there will be any more sequel. I want it to be rebooted, but not any time soon, at least a decade of gap needed. So I hope they won't rush and ruin this classic tale like three 'Spiderman' reboots in less than 20 years. Meantime, this film is okay for watching once, though I'm not in favour to recommend it to anybody except little children.

Story-telling fascinates me hence I dissect movies and there is certainly something to be learned here.

At the core the story is a conflict between family members: Alice and her mother; the Mad Hatter and his father; the white queen and her sister the red queen. Rooted as these conflicts are in the past, they shape the present and the future. It is the past and thus it cannot be altered.
Or can it?
Well, Alice gains that ability by stealing a time traveling machine from Time himself. Thus she whirls back through the ages to undo the past and thus alter the future. Time travelling is fascinating as it allows for all kinds of complications and if the movie had kept to that one story-line it might have allowed for more. But someone discarded the rule that less is more and swung hundred and eighty degrees about: we get more. And with each added sub plot, cast member and side trip there is less to each of them.
The whole cast of the first movie, for instance, returns in this movie, but few have a substantial role to play. Yet there is at least one time consuming pointless scene with them. There is a scene in which Alice jumps back through the mirror to the real world, gets locked up in a mental institute, escapes and jumps back through the mirror to wonderland that could have been left out as it adds nothing to the story. There is James Harcourt, whom we suspect to have been cast as a love interest, but at least that development didn't survive the cutting table, although he is still in it.

With so many wasteful time eaters there aren't enough minutes in the hour to develop anything so finally the tale gets to be wrapped up with kiss-and-make-up solutions sprinkled with in your face moral lessons, the most atrocious of which is the one that solves the issues between the white queen and the red. All the latter wants is for the first to say sorry! The whole first movie thus is caused by one small incident that could have been solved by an excuse. The root of all evil is a lie about a stolen piece of cake.

This is the kind of 'Kindergarten'(quoting Time from the movie) psychology that is used to propel the story and so morally bankrupts it. Because what is all the fuss about if you can make it go away by a kiss, a cuddle, a smile or a pat on the shoulder?

But what is the final lesson of the story? When in dire straits just wonder the problem away, for no reality induced limitations can stop your will from overcoming obstacles. Therefore your suffering is caused by your own lack of imagination. I bet all the economists and politicians in the world haven't thought of that one: they can learn a thing or two from Walt Disney.

But wait a minute... Isn't not the upshot of the whole movie that one can not alter the past, but only learn from it? So Alice's message that one can do anything if one just let their imagination run wild is actually at odds with the lesson of the movie. What gives?

But look how bad this really gets. Her attempt to save one man almost undoes the whole universe. She runs wild with her imagination and wonderland faces disaster. And nobody, except Wilkins, Time's butler, notices it. Alice is as dumb as Time makes her out to be, and so are all her friends, who fail to see how dangerous she has become. The only thing she cares about is her petty feelings: she feels bad because her friend Hatter feels bad about his dad. And fixing this takes precedence above anything else: including wrecking existence. But all hurrah her at the end anyway instead of locking her up as the true menace to society. The movie ultimately defeats its own message.

But there is an even bigger crime. Alice movies are, I think, feasts of creative nonsense and subtile mirth, but this movie is so far removed from any of it. It is bone dry with the exception of Time, played by Sacha Baron Cohen. As a matter of fact, the movie tries to infuse reason into unreason. Explaining Alice and the world she is in is the death knell of the story. "Why so serious?" says the Joker. Why indeed?

This movie works on a superficial level. It is so overburdened with the superfluous and the trite that it gets undone and neither the cast nor the cgi can save it. It even fails to hold to its own moral lessons. Ultimately it will fade in time as on any level it is just a 'Kindergarten' movie.

Sure, it was a flawed Hollywood blockbuster, but it definitely had some good things to it. When I heard that a sequel was coming out, though, I didn't get my hopes all that high. Sure, the first film was solid enough, but was it worth making a sequel? And six years after the first one at that? Well, I recently checked out said sequel and, admittedly, it wasn't all that bad. Sure, some of the humor falls flat, the plot is utterly ridiculous, and Johnny Depp provides an uninteresting performance, but the film is visually sound, has some decent characters, a solid performance from Mia Wasikowska, and surprisingly, the film actually has some legitimately exciting (and emotional) moments. No, it's not a great film, and it's nothing amazing, but all in all, it's a decent little film, and even despite my rating, I still recommend giving it a shot to see if the wholly ridiculous, nonsensical plot adds to the charm of the film for you, or if it just feels frustrating. Alice Through The Looking Glass meets some cool music, a brilliantly talented cast and a full-of-emotion story-telling..., then it sinks under failure, thanks to it's flawed try to live up the classic characters that we've seen before.

Una película aburrida y totalmente innecesaria. Había tenido un buen cierre y ahora lo siento muy descolocado.

It's still far from being a great or even a generally good film, but it is just a lot more fun. I felt like everything about the first film was slightly improved in this sequel. The plot is a lot more enjoyable, though not very deep, the CG is better, though many times it did look like actors performing on a sound stage, and the acting is a lot better. I felt like Johnny Depp was immensely more fun here and the addition of Sacha Baron Cohen was very welcome, also Helena Bonham Carter was still as enjoyable as ever with Mia Wasikowska bringing much more gusto to the character and sense of charm as well in Through the Looking Glass. It's a pretty solid fantasy/adventure movie for the family. Though it has its fair share of problems I kinda loved it. Expand

Not a great film; but a good film and an effective sequel. Every scene was captivating and fun. There was impressive improvements from the first film. The end captures the plot. Would recommend this to watch with your family.

After seeing this film, I think it fits that description. "Alice in Wonderland" was a box office and critical hit, and had a good financial fit. The sequel, expected, takes advantage of the title of a novel that Lewis Carroll wrote after “Alice in Wonderland”. Just the title! The story has nothing to do with the book that, out of curiosity, turned 145 years in the year the film was released.

The script begins with Alice's return from a trip to the Chinese seas and the discovery that her mother had gone into debt and passed control of the family firm to Hamish who, by malice, decided to take revenge by forcing her to sell her ship. It's in this context that Alice returns to the magical country that she already knows after going through a mirror. There, she discovers that she was "summoned" to the country to help the Mad Hatter, who is dying of sadness for believing that his entire family, presumably dead, may be alive somewhere. Alice will have to go to the Castle of Time and get the Chronosphere, a time-travel machine that would allow her to discover what happened to the Hatter's family.

I was unimpressed with this film. I think the direction of James Bobin bet a lot on the visual and little on the script. In fact, I found surprising that Burton did not stay with the direction and preferred to stay in production. I think it would have been better for the film to have Burton in the chair. Linda Woolverton's script seemed to be predictable and not very creative, with childish's dialogues, forced jokes and too many puns that fade over time. The material given to the actors was probably not the best either.

Mia Waskikowska is quite good as Alice, she looks safe and confident. Helena Bonham Carter gave soul and emotion to a character who was, therefore, very humanized. Sacha Baron Cohen is also in good shape and this is reflected in the inspired and fun way he brought Time to life. I bet he had fun with the character and did this job with pleasure, I got to feel it when I saw him. However, if we put aside these three actors who, in fact, did very well, the cast's performance is generally poor. Johnny Depp, for example, was a shadow of himself, and he is one of those actors that I consider almost a safe bet for fantastic characters. I believe that the bad phase he was going through at the time of filming had a strong influence (the stormy divorce with Amber Heard), but the bad material of the script did not help him either. Anne Hathaway was also bad in a lifeless, emotionless performance, as if she was not engaged in her work. The film also features Rhys Ifans, Geraldine James, Lindsay Duncan and Leo Bill, but they all seem to be adrift, doing as they see fit and without much support from the director. The voice actors, as their characters, were in the third place of importance, highlighting only the very brief contribution of Allan Rickman because it was his last work.

Technically, the film is great, as its predecessor had previously been. These are films with a great visual focus, and where a lot of money is invested in CGI and state-of-the-art effects. The result is what is calculated: a visual show with a colorful, vibrant and intense cinematography. The effects of the storm at sea and the maritime maneuvers of Alice's ship were very well done and the fantastic world of Wonderland looks incredible, although not as absurd as Carroll's imagination would have liked, I think. This is compensated by the Castle of Time, as extravagant as possible. The costumes also help, starting with Time's and the two queens (I didn't like Alice's oriental costume so much, I confess). Still a word for the good conception of the Seconds and, particularly, of the guard of the Red Queen, inspired by the magnificent art of Arcimboldo, who is one of my favorite artists of the Renaissance period. Whoever has never seen one of his artworks must see it. As for Danny Elfman's soundtrack, I think it meets expectations, but it doesn't stand out.

You Must Have An Imagination To Watch This.

I love Alice in Wonderland - In fact I love most fairy tale/fantasy movies. With the first Tim Burton Alice movie I wasn't disappointed, but the story took me by surprise. The same goes for this movie. But the surprise for me was that I really enjoyed this movie. I wasn't sure what to expect, so I went in not expecting much - and though the story line was a little bland - It was nice to see what became of Alice - Also in this movie, you learn things about people you didn't know. Such as the White and Red Queen's childhood. Take a step through the looking glass and follow Alice through an adventure to save The Mad Hatter's family - In a race to turn back time, Alice goes on another adventure and learns some things that cannot change the past, but can change the present.

They killed the original essence of the series. Time traveling? The Red Queen does everything she does because of a head accident she had? The Mad Hatter is dying just because he misses her family? It doesn't work as a time traveling movie either, in fact it's one of the worst I've ever seen, with hundreds of plot holes, forced situations, narrative inconsistencies and lack of explanation of certain events (for example, as they do near the end of The Mad Hatter and Alice to travel if they didn't have the chronosphere at that time? How did the Red Queen meet the master of time? Wasn't she locked away by the White Queen?
And speaking of new characters they are all horrendous. The Mad Hatter's family has no charm at all, the Time Master is a pretty pitiful combination of N Tropy and Robbie Rotten, and GOD he's unbearable, he even makes me CRINGE! And latter in the end he´s personality totally changes.... What?!
All this about time travel, the constant change in art style, and the great change that the series underwent make me think that this was going to be a different movie, even if it wasn't true. IS A STEAMPUNK STYLE NECESSARY IN A MORE REALISTIC FANTASY WORLD!? THEY KILLED THE ALICE SERIES!
One of the worst movies I've seen in a long time, it's just a nonsense of a mix, randomly placed things as if they didn't belong to the same universe/movie.

I don't know why the people don't like this movie, it is so good, they just hate it 'cause is the sequel of the movie that they hate too because its a remake of the original, Who say that the remakes need to be 100% the same to the originals?

Upon her return to London from China, she learns that her ex-fiancé, Hamish Ascot, has taken over his deceased father's company and plans to have Alice sign over her father's ship in exchange for her family home. Alice follows a butterfly she recognizes as the Caterpillar and returns to Wonderland through a mirror. Alice is greeted by the White Queen, the White Rabbit, the Tweedles, the Dormouse, the March Hare, the Bloodhound and the Cheshire Cat. They inform her that the Mad Hatter is acting madder than usual because his family is missing. Alice tries to console him, but he remains certain that his family survived the attack of the Jabberwocky. The White Queen, believing that finding the Hatter's family is the only way to restore his health, sends Alice to consult Time and convince him to save the Hatter's family in the past. The White Queen warns Alice that history will be destroyed if a person's past and present selves meet. Upon entering the Castle of Eternity, Alice finds the Chronosphere, an object that controls all of time in Wonderland.
After Time tells Alice that altering the past is impossible, she steals the Chronosphere and travels back in time, shortly after finding the exiled Red Queen in Time's care. The Red Queen orders Time to pursue Alice, who accidentally travels to the Red Queen's coronation. There, a younger Mad Hatter mocks the Red Queen when the royal crown does not fit her abnormal head. When her crown breaks, the Red Queen throws a tantrum that causes her head to swell. Her father deems her unfit to rule and passes the title of queen to her younger sister, the White Queen. Alice learns of an event in both the Queens' pasts that causes friction between the two, and she travels back in time again, hoping to change the Red Queen's character and cease the Jabberwocky from killing the Hatter's family. The young White Queen steals a tart from her mother and eats it. When confronted by their mother, she lies about eating the tart, which gets her sister accused and causes her to run out of the castle in a fit. Alice sees her about to run into a clock and believes this to be the event that deforms her head and personality. She manages to move the clock out of the way, but fails to change the past as the Red Queen stumbles and hits her head anyway.
Alice is confronted by a weakened Time, who berates her for putting all of time in danger. She runs into a nearby mirror back into the real world, where she wakes up in a mental hospital, diagnosed with female hysteria. With the help of her mother, she returns to Wonderland, where she travels to the Jabberwocky attack and discovers that the Hatter's family did not die, but were captured by the Red Queen's Red Knights. Returning to the present, Alice discovers the Mad Hatter at the brink of death. After Alice tearfully says that she believes him, the Hatter awakens and reforms back to his normal self. The Wonderlanders go to the Red Queen's castle and find the Hatter's family shrunk and trapped in an ant farm. The Red Queen apprehends them and steals the Chronosphere from Alice, taking her sister back to the day she lied about the tart. By the time Alice and Hatter get there, the Red Queen and her past self see each other. This creates a time paradox, and Wonderland quickly turns to rust. Using the Chronosphere, Alice and the Hatter race back to the present, where Alice is able to place the Chronosphere back in its original place. With the Chronosphere stabilized, Wonderland reverts to normal. The Mad Hatter reunites with his family. The White Queen apologizes to her sister for lying, and both of them make amends. Alice bids her friends farewell and returns to the real world where her mother refuses to turn Alice's ship over to Hamish, and the two set to travel the world on behalf of their own company.
