The movie is enjoyable, But i miss the red bird being sarcastic and mean, in this movie the bird is almost silent. Aladin and jasmin characters were a good choice, Will smith as ghost was enjoyable too.

It's not perfect, but out of all the Disney remakes this one is my favorite. Good balance of old and new ideas. Cool choreography, good old music, genie is stealing the show (as he should). I would recommend this movie.

Aladdin is a remake of the original classic. Overall its got good music numbers, performances from the leads, good laughs, and visually looks really good - from the locations to the colour palette, costumes, and makeup.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm not going to lie, I was nervous but at the same time anxious. The first musical number "Arabian Nights" made my hair stand on end. The film is enjoyed from beginning to end, with good musical numbers, magic and the best performances by Will Smith, Naomi Scott and Mena Massoud, they have very good chemistry. Everything that the trailers see is different on the big screen, with respect to the genius CGI and the VFX, visually stuning. Enjoy the character of Dalia, funny, sympathetic. With respect to the new song "Speechless" I thought it was a good addition in this live action. Naomi's performance touches the heart of anyone and it really comes. "Prince Ali" different, colorful, splendid. Undoubtedly, until now one of the best live action. The only bad thing I have to say is Jafar, they do not take advantage of the character and downplay it. Is it threatening? Yes, but not as much as in the original. Expand

The cast members were able to portray their characters well and making them their own. The songs were beautifully sung and surprisingly fit well with the modern pop sound. Aladdin, a whole new world?

Today, I was able to take a stroll down memory lane and let nostalgia be my guide. Aladdin is a Disney giant that took its first magic carpet ride in 1992. Today, Aladdin knocked the dust off of the old magic carpet once again. This movie stars newcomers Mena Massoud as Aladdin and Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine. Hollywood giant, Will Smith plays the Genie. So let’s see how the reboot rebounded.

First, let’s get the cat out of the bag. This reboot hits all of the classic notes from the animated movie. However, the movie updates the story to feature current sociocultural climate notes and additional songs. This isn’t just a live version carbon copy, and I’m glad Disney made changes.

Both Mena and Naomi, do a very good job in their roles as Aladdin and Jasmine. They both display some good singing ability and acting skills. And, of course Raja and Abu steal your hearts in this movie. Will Smith, had the hardest job of all by having to live up to Robin William’s original portrayal, but he does a very good job as well. Will gives the audience a funny, high energy, charming, and current version of the Genie. As for Jafar and the Sultan, they also do a good job, but honestly the Sultan isn’t really featured, and Jafar needed to be more devilish.

This was a good movie, but the additional parts and songs in the movie did not add much to it. People who enjoyed this movie growing up will say just “give me the original movie,” and move on. But those who are not familiar with the original movie, will enjoy the magic ride that Disney took us on.

Long story short, families with kids should definitely go see this movie in the theaters, whether at night time or matinee. Everyone else, especially those who loved the movie as a kid decades ago, I would say you can see the matinee. But, honestly you should wait for Redbox or a streaming service rental for $4.99 to see a whole new world.

Similar to Beauty and the Beast, the film takes no real risks in presenting the same story you have already seen before. The casting is for the most part excellent, and all the big names put in solid performances, especially Smith, who doesn’t try to fill the massive shoes left by Williams, but rather puts on his own and wears them proudly, the Genie character is perhaps the boldest move the movie makes and is the main thing that could be argued as ‘not a remake’.

The musical numbers sound good (as you would expect) and the set pieces and costume work are both excellent.

The movie just lacks any real reason to invest, the plot is identical to before, though arguably worse as the pacing is awful at times as characters switch up opinions or traits on the flick of a switch just to progress the story. The musical numbers sometimes fail to move the story forward, which means shortcuts are taken outside of these numbers in order to make up for lost time, which harshly compromises the pacing and certain points of internal logic. For me personally it seriously detached me from the film and hurt my enjoyment. Though I don’t wish to mark it too severely as I appreciate that it was a personal response.

I can see why this movie is making so much money, and it will continue to do so, and it will sell well again when released to the home market, it is an enjoyable flick that families can easily digest and enjoy, even if it isn’t doing anything above and beyond.

6/10, a perfectly competent and inoffensive movie, if you like Disney, or Aladdin, you’ll enjoy it.

I wish disney would stop remaking the classics and invest in new material!!! Despite these negative points, it really is a well made and entertaining film that is worth a look esp if you're a disney fan. Expand

'Aladdin' seems like a check-list, in which scenes only happen because they happened in the 1992 original. Directed by Guy Ritchie ('Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels' and 'Snatch'), the film obviously centers around our title character (played by Mena Massoud, who does look and sound like his animated counterpart) running around and stealing from the marketplace of Agrabah along with his monkey Abu. He then meets a beautiful young woman, Jasmine (Naomi Scott), but is unaware that she is a princess. They seem to get along and almost fall in love as she finds his warm and kind charming personality somewhat rare and unique, as well as how he helped her get out of trouble. Meanwhile our main villain, Jafar (Marwan Kenzari), is after a powerful lamp, but needs a "Diamond in the Rough", and that comes from Aladdin, so he recruits him to voluntarily enter the cave of wonders and retrieve the magical possession. Aladdin, unfortunately, doesn't escape but manages to keep the lamp, and discovers that there is an all powerful Genie (A blue Will Smith) who can grant him three wishes. The two form a friendship and come up with ways for Aladdin to impress Jasmine, as well as the Genie's promise for his freedom. As I said above, the film feels like a check-list (only if you have seen the original), scenes are sometimes structured differently in an attempt to make it feel more original, and a new song is also added to make it different. The only major issue here is the CGI. While Smith does not repeat or do an imitation of what the late Robin Williams did back in 1992, and incorporates his own charisma to the role, the CGI to make Smith look like a person-like puff of blue smoke is visually jarring, as he looks inconsistent to the environment which surrounds him. For example, when he's talking to Aladdin, the light shining on one side of Aladdin's face is shining on the other side of the Genie's. It's almost as if Smith shot his scenes separately to the other actors from time to time. Plus, his movement can be a little frightening from time to time. Overall, the acting is solid, Naomi Scott is the biggest surprise from this film, and I guess it is faithful (yet massively unoriginal) to the animated classic. I am unsure as to why Disney thought Guy Ricthie (again, the director of 'Snatch') was the appropriate choice for this project. Next thing you know, they'll announce Quentin Tarantino to helm the live-action remake of 'The Little Mermaid' (1989). Expand

Yes, it cannot compare to the original animated movie with Robin Williams but Will Smith brought a whole new dimension to the Genie which I really liked. The story was a little stupid, with Jasmine actually becoming Sultan (I am all for feminism but this is just going too far) and Jafar was nerfed to make Jasmine look "stronger".

The musical number were phenomenal especially the Friend Like Me number, the Prince Ali number, and the Whole New World Number. I loved the music so much it was outstanding, I liked the new versions of A Whole New World better than the original ones. The soundtrack is my 2nd favorite soundtrack of 2019, one of my top 5 favorite Disney soundtracks of all time, one of my top 10 favorite albums of 2019, one of my top 10 favorite soundtracks of all time, and one of my favorite albums of all time. The acting from Will Smith was stupendous, he was hilarious and when he was thanking Aladdin for setting him free I got teary eyed. Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, Nasim Pedrad, Navid Negahban, and Billy Magnusson also gave terrific performances. The voice over performances from Alan Tudyk and Frank Welker were fantastic. The dance numbers were amazingly well choreographed. The costumes were remarkable especially Aladdin's Prince Ali outfit and Jasmine's pink dress and light green dress. The visual effects were pretty impressive especially the Genie, the Genie's magic, Rajah, Abu, the flying carpet, and Iago. The action scenes were also pretty great especially when Aladdin and Jasmine are on the flying carpet running from Iago. This is my favorite Disney Movie of 2019, my favorite musical of 2019, one of my top 10 favorite movies of 2019, my 2nd favorite live-action remake of a Disney animated movie, one of my top 5 favorite musicals of all time, and one of my favorite movies of all time. Expand

Nothing but a soulless remake of Aladdin. Disney's remakes are awful bad acting and worse version of the story and characters. If you want to watch Aladdin watch the animated one

Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you have never seen Aladdin and like CGI more then animation go right ahead.
If you think that it will improve on the old 1992 movie then I would say that you should not watch it.
SPOILERS:
- jasmine has been made more scared. Not sure why they did this but in the old movie she wasn't scared to jump to other roofs and now she is.
- Iago's personality is gone. Did you like that he got angry and his revenge on the sultan at the end? NO MORE. now he is just a bird that knows that Aladdin the diamond in the rough how? I don't know.
- carpet knows about the lamp.(didn't need to be added) Aladin also cleans the lamp like he knows something will come out of it(maybe that is just me).
- Aladdin first wish doesn't count(the rules are you rub the lamp you say I wish and that's that) now because Aladdin didn't rub the lamp a sec before he said I wish they didn't count it while to spawn the genie he had to rub the lamp so that would mean that part 1 is already complete. When he can't wish because he is underwater he gets to sign a paper that declares that he made a wish not sure why they think it was necessary.
- Aladdin is really awkward when he has to introduce himself to the sultan/Jasmin. Not sure why they did that. he even said that he was really good at pretending("If you don't have anything you have to pretend like you own everything") - The genie even when Jafar is the master just teleports the carpet if he can do that why not teleport the lamp to Aladdin's hand??
- When Jafar's staff gets broken the second time with help from the sultan the spell that Jafar cast on Iago disappears. Not sure why this happens because Aladdin didn't transform back in a prince at the same time while that was also Jafar's magic doing.
- While flying against Iago Aladdin gets hold of the lamp. Not sure why he didn't wish for Jafar's wishes to be undone but that would have made the movie shorter.
- Jafar's last wish: "For my final wish I wish to become the most powerful being in the universe more powerful than you"(you references to the genie) but he just ends up like the genie. not sure what made him more powerful.
- When Aladdin wishes the genie free he becomes a human. Why did this need changing? Why not just leave him as a ghost? Now it seems more like he was under a spell just like Jafar is now.
-I didn't really talk a lot about the extra sub-characters: Dolia(maiden of the princes) and Haki(the commander) they were both ok but were not really necessary. I would rather have seen a fight between Aladdin and Jafar like in the old movie but not it was pretty short in that part (Iago and Aladdin were fighting for some time for the lamp).
- Last but least I wanted to overlook it but some else also talked about it: Jasmin becomes the sultan. felt more cramped in and just there to please the feminists. It's not a worse ending than the original but it also doesn't really make it better. Now instead of Aladdin becoming sultan while he is not a real prince, Jasmin will become the sultan.
What I liked:
- The music, it was the original but then was changed to be more modern(beatbox was added etc.) and there were even some original songs added.
What I think they should have changed:
- when Aladdin almost gets out of the cave of wonders Jafar could just help him to get outside the cave. Then would Jafar have the lamp and could just give Aladdin some money for his troubles. If you ask why would Jafar not just let him dye in the cave? Because Aladdin isn't a thread to Jafar at first. He is just a thief that wants some money. Jafar had nothing to fear.
Something to think about:
At the start, he tells Aladdin that gold and power are not good whiches maybe that was something that the genie experienced for himself? (he also throws away Jafar's lamp just like in the old movie to the gave of wonders and says that a couple of thousand years will cool him off).

The costumes are great and there are some good examples of CGI. I liked the chase scene near the start, with fast choreography, it felt almost a little like a fast chase scene from a James Bond film. I would say that it's not the kind of film to overly analyse - if you're going to do nothing but compare it to the cartoon version from the 1990s, then you might well find some flaws but as a family-friendly film in its own right and for a light entertainment type watch, its certainly pretty good in and of itself.

I found it to be quite atmospheric and engrossing and while its undoubtedly cheesy, it's a good example of a family-friendly musical/fantasy film and so I'd definitely recommend it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Expand

Aladdin, a kind-hearted street urchin, living in the Arabian city of Agrabah along with his pet monkey Abu, rescues and befriends Princess Jasmine, who has snuck out of the palace to explore, tired of her sheltered life. Meanwhile, the grandAladdin, a kind-hearted street urchin, living in the Arabian city of Agrabah along with his pet monkey Abu, rescues and befriends Princess Jasmine, who has snuck out of the palace to explore, tired of her sheltered life. Meanwhile, the grand vizier, Jafar, schemes to overthrow Jasmine's father as the Sultan with the support of Iago, his sardonic pet parrot. He seeks a magic lamp hidden in the Cave of Wonders that will grant him three wishes. He has been unable to retrieve the lamp himself because only "the diamond in the rough" is allowed to enter the cave.

Jafar discovers Aladdin is the diamond in the rough and when Aladdin sneaks back into the royal palace to talk to Jasmine, he is captured and persuaded by Jafar's deal to help him retrieve the lamp: since only Aladdin can enter the cave alive, he will retrieve the lamp for Jafar and Jafar will make Aladdin rich enough to impress Jasmine. Jafar warns Aladdin not to take anything but the lamp. Inside the cave, Aladdin finds a magic carpet and obtains the lamp, but Abu accidentally causes the cave to collapse after he catches a falling ruby. Aladdin gives the lamp to Jafar, but he double-crosses Aladdin and kicks him and Abu back into the cave, though Abu steals the lamp back. The magic carpet catches Aladdin and saves him from falling to his death.

Trapped in the cave, Aladdin rubs the lamp, unwittingly summoning the omnipotent Genie who lives inside it. The Genie explains that he has the power to grant Aladdin three wishes, with the exceptions of murder, romance, the resurrection of the dead, and more wishes. Aladdin gets the Genie to free them from the cave without using a wish on a technicality: Aladdin didn't rub the lamp as he stated the wish.
Aladdin enters Agrabah as Prince Ali of Ababwa, arriving in an extravagant spectacle. However, Jasmine is unimpressed by his first presentation, including an assortment of gifts and gems. The two later bond when he takes her on a ride on the magic carpet to show her the world she wants to see while the Genie goes out with Dalia. Jasmine realizes who Aladdin is and tricks him into revealing his true identity; however, he convinces her that he is actually a prince and only dressed like a peasant to meet the citizens of Agrabah beforehand.

Jafar discovers Aladdin's identity and, to test his theory, throws Aladdin into the sea, saying if he lives, it will be because he found the lamp, and the Genie saved him. If he dies, he really is a prince and doesn't have the lamp. Abu, now a monkey again, and the carpet arrive with the lamp, but Aladdin loses consciousness before he can rub it. The Genie, impressed by Aladdin's good character, assumes he can alter Genie rules to allow him to save Aladdin, but at the cost of his second wish. At the palace, Jafar tries to turn the others against Aladdin and the Genie with lies, but when Aladdin returns, Jafar is exposed by him and Jasmine, who was also suspicious of Jafar. He is arrested and imprisoned in the dungeon. The Sultan offers Aladdin the position as heir to the throne. Fearing he will lose Jasmine if the truth is revealed, Aladdin decides to reserve the Genie for then and refuses to free him. The Genie tells Aladdin that he was the first master he ever considered a friend and that he's now breaking his heart.
Jafar uses his first wish to become Sultan. When the loyal guards refuse to acknowledge the change, per Jasmine's request, he makes a second wish to become the world's most powerful sorcerer and imprisons the guards and Rajah. He then exposes Aladdin's identity to Jasmine and exiles him and Abu to a frozen wasteland on the other side of the Earth. He threatens to kill the Sultan and Dalia unless Jasmine agrees to marry him. At the wedding ceremony, Aladdin and Abu return, having been rescued by the magic carpet, and Jasmine steals back the lamp. Furious, Jafar transforms Iago into a roc to give chase. Jafar, angered by the Sultan's attempt to stop him, overpowers them and severely damaging the magic carpet in the process. Iago steals the lamp back.

Aladdin stalls by taunting Jafar for being second and powerless to the Genie, thereby tricking him into using his last wish to become the most powerful being in the universe. Due to the vagueness of the wish, the Genie is able to use it to turn Jafar into a genie; chained to the lamp without a master, Jafar is trapped inside, dragging Iago in with him. The Genie banishes them and throws Jafar's lamp to the Cave of Wonders and repairs the magic carpet. Aladdin keeps his promise, using his last wish to free the Genie and allow him to live as a human. The Sultan declares that Jasmine will be the next ruler and tells her that Aladdin is a good person, outlines how worthy he is, and tells her as sultana, she can overturn the law that requires her to marry a prince.

The Genie marries Dalia and leaves to explore the world and start a family with her. Aladdin and Jasmine get married and start a new life as well.

Mena Massoud act like a retard and not like a "cunning thief" like Aladdin, Jasmine is turned into a stupid Karen feminist and Jafar...one of the most cruel villains of Disney, the pedophile who wanted to marry a 16yo girl and obtain power over everything...here is a trash, whiny silly girl.
In the original opera Jafar turned into a giant snake, trapped Jasmine in a hourglass to suffocate her and blew fire, laughing in pure evil...almost invincible.
In the live action he beat the staff...and teleport things...so freakin pathetic.
The only good thing is Will Smith's performance

However, Ritchie'sIt was a surprise when Guy Ritchie, known for his gritty and stylized films, was chosen to direct the live-action version of Disney's "Aladdin." With a mixed track record, many were unsure of what to expect from the movie. However, Ritchie's Aladdin manages to capture the charm and energy of the original animated film while also adding new elements to the story.

One of the biggest concerns for audiences was Will Smith's portrayal of the Genie, a character made iconic by Robin Williams' portrayal in the original film. However, Smith's performance is solid, with the right mix of restraint and larger-than-life energy. Meanwhile, Mena Massoud's Aladdin and Naomi Scott's Jasmine both shine in their roles, with Scott particularly impressing with her strong vocal range. On the other hand, Marwan Kenzari's Jafar is less intimidating than in previous versions of the story.

The film's visuals are breathtaking, with the exotic city of Agrabah and the vibrant costumes and choreography standing out. The original songs from the animated film are given a modern twist, but the new numbers fail to leave a lasting impression. The extra storyline added to the film feels unnecessary and dragged the pacing down.

Overall, while not without its flaws, "Aladdin" is a fun and entertaining film that manages to capture the spirit of the original while adding new elements. The lead performances and visuals are particularly strong. However, the film would have benefited from more rigorous editing and more memorable new songs.
