A beautiful heartfelt film. Colorful, vibrant and with a very talented cast. I am amazed the so called critics scored it low. As usual ignore them and pay attention to the audience score. A very entertaining film.

A sad and extremely cynical remake, bringing nothing new to the table other than an odd fitting empowerment plot line. Safer thing I’ve seen since justice league.

Loved the movie. Songs, story and cast well done! They made just the slightest changes, and added some new content to make it feel like a new movie all while still feeling like the original Aladdin we know and love! Awesome job!!

Movie was atrocious in terms of comedy or tension and had uneven production value.

I haven't laughed once (maybe smiled a few times thanks to Iago, Abu and Carpet) neither cared for any of the characters.

Will Smith jumping around as a disappointing Genie in a very questionable CGI blue form so jarring to the eye mumbling cringey nonsense for 5 year olds
The "Friend like me" scene felt like it was missing the grandeur and excitement of the original. Aladdin and Jasmine bursting into song seemed kinda forced but at least the songs themselves were nice renditions of the originals.

Jaffar's pathetic voice and actions made me roll my eyes several time.

Hakim and Sultan were quite boring (they looked like they came out of a cheesy Turkish soap opera) serving as dull pawns in Jaffar's mind games.

It tells a lot on the level of your writing, when your best characters are the non-human ones.

Finale was anti climatic and even more cringey.

To be honest, I watched this movie because my family wanted me to join them, but I should've trusted my gut about this and just waited to Lion King (I trust Favreau a lot more than Ritchie).

It may not be the great, but it's far from being bad. I felt like this was one of the better adaptations since there were some lackluster live action films like Dumbo, Beauty and the Beast and I feel like Aladdin was not one of them. Anyway, the music is really awesome. And once again, Genie is the star of the movie. And Princess Jasmine and Aladdin too. Jafar was kinda off, but he also did a good job. Some cons that I would give is that the film is a little bit rushed. It could have been better if the film was longer. Expand

Yet, Will Smith as the genie turned out to be realy good, adding his prince of belair persona to the character and the songs, which to my surprise worked pretty well. The real problem with the movie is Jafar, which is the only reason why I don't give it a 10. He lacks the evil, threatening villain traits of the original, that creppy lust he had for Jasmine and his hilarious relation with Iago. At least, the casting crew should have chosen a much taller, older and not hot actor. Still, watching the movie is a great experience, if you liked the original you'll enjoy the live-action version. It's Aladdin yes. Was the live-action adaptation necessary? Well that's a whole different matter, pretty much like with every live-action adaptation Disney has made in recent years, yet here we are.

Personally I must say that I didn't dislike it. After all, it's basically the same story of the animated classic and on that side it has no problems, however, there's nothing extraordinary or something that goes beyond being just a different version of this well-known story.

Maybe kids and young people who haven't seen the animated film will find this version more striking but in general terms here there's nothing that Disney has not done previously in these sort of adaptations.

The quality is undeniable. The sets are awesome. The clothes are great. The musical numbers are also pretty colorful and nice.
The young protagonists work sufficiently good and they have chemistry and surprisingly Will Smith doesn't suck in a role in which he could have failed enormously.

Guy Ritchie delivers a fine film but only that. Is it enough? Yes, he didn't **** up and we know he could have done it. But as I said there's no outstanding element.

Aladdin it's a film that deserves your time, it might win your attention. After all it's still a show of entertainment but I definitely believe that the rest will depend of your own expectations and the respective enjoyment you might get out of it.

Smith earns the respect with vivacious performance and is celebrated by an incredible fund, yet Ritchie's distraction could only last long enough for a three minute song.

Aladdin

Ritchie is not using the best of it. What was highlighted in the 90s animated version, that is definitely celebrated with Disney funding the makers with a room full of money and vfx artists coloring and glittering the screen with crowd pleasing fireworks and commercial artwork. What is ignored is the goofiness of the Sultan- the father of Jasmine played by Naomi Scott- and the devilishness of the antagonist. But what aches you the most, is our host, the titled character, whose innocence should have been empathetic, yet in here, the incompetence is pitifully.. well, pitied.

Along with dull writing- except for the obvious one-liners from Genie played by Will Smith that will still chuckle you- the detailing in the physical sequence that went by in the original version is majorly in scarce here. Now, the plus points. First of all, it is and will be eventually a Guy Ritchie film. Ergo, it has got style like no other Disney live version had. From daring to add a musical number in a chase scene to a brilliantly choreographed songs; dance is a major part of it and Mena Massoud is good at it along with Smith tapping to few beats.

New songs are added up and the old ones are updated with couple of new verses, which to me was like eating glass. And yes, I should not compare it to Robin Williams, but in my defense, they sang those songs and brought it that close, and no it is not an improvement. Smith's version is surely charming but is also anchored by a dull script. Aladdin is another passion project for Smith coming alive and he will rejoice it, the unsung ones will be the supporting actors along with the banner that chips up for a pretentious gold digging act as it fails to experiment with the art in the museum, once again.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A terrible script rewrite by someone that clearly did not understand nor respect the original. It's hard to list all the ways this movie failed. Whether it be how they completely rewrote a story that originally focused on love transcending status and wealth to to one that instead focuses more on female pursuit of power. Or how poorly the more cartoony characters like genie, Iago and Abu transitioned to live action. Or how they tried to randomly hip-hopify middle eastern culture. Or how abysmal their casting was for the villain. Or how they pointlessly created a tangential romance for the genie that contributes nothing to the story's themes, and comes at the cost of some of the best scenes like that of the merchant. Or how they would not even invest enough to recreate any of the scenes that would actually require a budget (like the giant cobra). I could go on and on but needless to say as a remake it's a disaster. If all you want is a distraction for your kids for 2 hours, it may do the trick but if you are expecting anything more, you're in for a colossal disappointment. Expand

'Aladdin', on the other hand, was the least interesting of the remakes so far, to me. There wasn't really anything new to this and that was one of the biggest drawbacks. Will Smith's Genie was okay but better than I thought he would be. Mena Massoud was decent, Naomi Scott was fine and Marwan Kenzari's Jafar reminded me of an angry 15-year-old. The beginning part of the film was okay but still fell flat in most areas. And the middle and end was either pretty quickly paced, or just paced so inconsistently. Some of Genie's jokes kept me somewhat entertained throughout the nearly two-hour runtime. I think the biggest complaint from me was the actual editing and how the setting looked. Not the practical set, because that was one of the best-looking sets I've seen, but the way they implanted the overly colored screen effect. If it was daytime, Agrabah and the desert just had this distracting shade of yellow and orange. If it was night, then Agrabah, the Cave of Wonders, and the desert had this annoying dark blue shade. Some CGI effects were okay, but it really all came down to the look and colors of the film. Costume design was fine, the production design was great, but I have no idea why Disney would spend all this money on amazing production design for a C- film. Overall, this film was exactly how I thought it would turn out for me. Expand

I was expecting to hate Will Smith's Genie but, surprisingly, he was one of the few high points of the film. He made Genie his own and didn't just try to clone Robin Williams and the role was all the better for it. Everything else, though.. just awful. Adding Jasmine's new, feminist pandering "I don't need no man, I'm a strong woman!", musical numbers ("Speechless" parts 1 and 2) not only felt out of place but also were cringe af. Nothing felt menacing about Jafar -- he felt like a SyFy b-rated TV movie villain. The visual effects were pretty damn good, at least. But I give the final word to my 8 year old who, as we were walking out of the theater, turned and said "That stunk, can I watch the cartoon when I get home?" Expand

Another appropriate title for this would be "Hitch & Aladdin". The spiritual successor to Hitch,AT LAST! :-D

There are 3 ways I can thank this movie for:
It made me forget the existence of a scary Jar-Jar Binks looking CG Elephant
It made Guy Ritchie think his last movie sucked hardcore so that he could've tried to make this movie look good
Again,the spiritual successor to Hitch
Because that's what this new version of Aladdin is: An unnecessary big spectacle that tries his best to be somewhat of an actual movie with things in it.
Unlike Dumbo,go see it in IMAX for the effects bonanza and pretty colors. (do it quick before Godzilla blows up your IMAX Auditorium) Trust me this time, you'll see more than a boring, lifeless Circus Tent.
The actors are really trying to sell their performances, right down to Will Smith, which is,obviously, the best part of the movie. He doesn't try to be Robin Williams by any means,to the point to where it doesn't matter if you say he or him was better, because all that matters is that,at least they're having fun playing the character. Guy Ritchie knows how to direct action sequences and (surprisingly) dance numbers,so that kept me engaged to point... (too bad there wasn't the director's signature Snorricam shot). I love this new version of the score by Alan Menken. At one point,it becomes a Hans Zimmer score, and at another,it's Rio by John Powell. "Friend Like Me" and "Prince Ali" are 10/10 scenes that are almost astounding to be in a movie of this caliber, but in a movie like this, the musical scenes can be hit-or-miss. I didn’t get what was happening in “A Whole New World” besides ‘Oh,they’re singing in a magical carpet!’,and the first part of Speechless (one of the few new songs added in the movie) was good...Until it sinks its teeth into a point where it’s no going back.
When “Speechless” gets played in full, not only is it worse than either Peter Parker dancing in Spider-Man 3 or Shia LaBeouf swinging with lots of CG Monkeys in Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, but it’s also so laughably bad,you can call that scene “The scene where Jasmine becomes more powerful than Thanos and The Flash (or Quicksilver) thrown togheter”.
That alone made Captain Marvel look like a job well done in just 24 Hours.
The opening of the movie (until it gets to the Cave Of Wonders halfway through) is just as quick as the entirety of The LEGO Movie,it sets a really strange bar for the movie (I mean...go figure, the movie has Dan Lin as one of the producers).
I will never forgive the writers for making Jafar look like one off the best MCU Phase 1 Villains, where, unless it’s Loki, they’re all SO. DAMN. FORGETTABLE.
And some of the new stuff I could’ve easily cut out, because, with that,it feels like if we were in an alternate universe, and Batman V Superman was so good we didn’t need an Ultimate Cut to explain the little details.
But again, thanks Aladdin for making me forget about a horrific elephant. There’s a much better Elephant in here than in Dumbo that families will enjoy. Out of all the Disney live-action redos, this is the Venom of these kind of movies. So many problems in the movie, but I’ll be damned if I had a good time seeing it.

But if you can get passed that then you might enjoy this. There are good things to this movie like for example the songs are pretty good (not better then the original movie but still) the comedy well not being as good as the original is still great but I love how the added and changed things so it's not all the same but not so different so you could make this remake about anything eles.

Not a good live action movie step ahead lyrics didnt match the scene like how the cartoon version did. he was literally walking around singing instead of running for his life. Jafar ruin the movie. no slave jasmine but we get a SFW jasmine song and she becomes sultan.... movie is called Aladdin not "Jasmine" cgi for carpet looks pretty bad i was hoping to see carpet mess with abu and thats how they meet but instead carpet ask for help and Aladdin was like "its a magic carpet." or something like that and they help carpet we don't get snake jafar instead a giant bird.. this movie doesn't improve the original. some of dialogue looked looked lifeless like they reading a script next to the camera man. will smith saved this movie for me. the actor that plays aladdin was ok his looks made him look like Aladdin same with the actress that plays jasmine. there is no slave jasmine scene or jester sultan getting crackers shoved in his mouth. instead sultan is almost made to snap his own neck which was kinda weird since this was supposed to be a children friendly movie but sultan looks possess and turning his head like it was about to snap and die. that went dark. should had slave jasmine instead but that would ruin her SJW song.. lol movie is not good. and they had a amazing Hitch scene with genie and aladdin which imo best part of the movie. All of the actors did so well. Will Smith made a good Genie made it his own. i mean robin williams set the bar super high and who would want a shot for shot thing anyway?no one can copy Robin Williams, a legend The CGI actually wasn't bad. all of the music fits the pace of the movie. No one in theater i was in seemed dissapointed with the remake either and there were quite few other people. I think the character princess jasmine was given much more stronger role than the animated in terms of life goals, her costumes were so beautiful and colorful. i loved the sarcasm too not just her character but in few other characters that's what added to the humor. i would want to see it again but i most likely will buy on blu-ray/dvd when it does come out.i find so nice and interesting that most audiences loved it and rated higher scores than most critics on movie critic sites. It mostly follows the same plot as the original Disney movie, but they tweaked the story a little to create more depth for the new actors and thereby also making the movie a bit more original and more fun to watch. They adapted the genie role very well to fit Will Smiths acting, thereby giving him a podium to create his own version of the genie, which worked out very well. Disney also paid more attention to equality and the impact of the female actors, though the new songs created to support the female characters didn't really work out for me.
Conclusion: a real life version of the original Aladdin; very much the same, a little tweaked, and thereby fun to watch.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Generaly I like the story of Alladin and is amazing in the book, but aparently I sow only the Disney version wich is not the real story. First : the movie is 40% a musical wich is a minus from the start, then the story is wrong in all aspects. The real story hapens in China not Arabia, Jafar is an african powerfull wizard has nothing in common with the Sultan,in the real story is a great magician who finds out about the lamp from his magic stuff, and he finds Alladin and tricks him, the real story is more amasing than this "good" story,Jafar colects magic relics it does not want to became Sultan, Alladin actualy has a diferent story with Jasmin. The book is more acurate, the actors are playing amazing the roles on screen, Will Smith is amazing. But no fault of the actors if the writers wants to change 90% of the real story of Alladin, plus Alladin story is one of the amazing stories of 1001 nights, I will chose the story of tricky Dalila anytime over Alladins.Another issue with the so called story of the movie is the conception that the gin can only grants you three wishes, in the book the one who owns the lamp is the master of the gin wich can grant him what ever wish he wants and as many wishes he wants, the logic in the movie fades, what you gona do with a lamp with a powerfull gin who can only grants you three wishes, whould you give away your lamp to another for another three wishes?Realy illogical that the master of the lamp only have a limited amount of wishes!Another problem in the movie who changed completely the story of Alladin is that the chance to release the gin, again the ilogical used here is that the gin can be released and transform in human. The story with the gin is that God created the angels the gin and the human, this are three species diferent, the gin is said to be created from fire,so logical a species can not become another species and why would you will give up your powers to became less powerfull? In the real book, the gin is bound by king Solomon to the lamp, can not be release, probabily the only think that gin can't do in the story is to unbound itself even if the master will grant him that wish, the gin is bound with powerfull SIGILS,no one can broke them but king Solomon. The gin in the story is neutral who is controll him but the only one who can enter in the cave as a prophecy says is only Alladin, the lamp is writen to be his until he touches it,after that Alladin can give the lamp or lose it the lamp will work the same with the new master, but only Alladin can aquire it at first. Made up beings are : the monkey, the parot of Giafar and the tiger from the palace. Why would you made up this animals? No ideea.Probably to continue the old cartoons about Alladin.I wonder if this people who takes the story and recreate them they even bother anymore to read the original story. And many more details not in the movie but in the book, the book is worth reading if you like storys. The cast is amiable with Will Smith taking on the role of the fast-talking street-wise blue genie. He does a lively job (helped by lots of special effects), but the inevitable comparisons to the original Robin Williams will find him falling short. Director Guy Ritchie has included some of his signature chases, but without much clever action. The visuals are colorful, there are plenty of special effect and the songs are tuneful, but the finished product lacks magic. Despite some early slow going, young audiences should be entertained. Jasmine's voice is so pure and powerful but her strength comes in her vulnerability. She takes some of the issues of that time head on with perfect musical scenes. The Genie wasn't a vocal powerhouse and neither was Aladdin but their voices were good enough to get a pass. It was a very long movie (2 hours) but it still ended very quickly. This movie surely isn't perfect but with charming music and great acting, it's worth your time. Expand

A lot of it feels like a reboot but plenty of the original stuff is still in there. The pacing though is completely off. The moment the movie starts the market it already feels like it has skipped something. Because it did - as the original didn't do it.

Some scenes were solved a bit better than the original but even if it was not important for the narration: What in the world were they thinking getting rid of Cobra Jafar? I think they tried to pay hommage to it because by the end they showed a living snake transforming into Jafar's new staff so that was kinda cool but you cannot just skip the final battle. The chase scene was pointless apart from "let's show them some action". How exactly did that scene work? Jafar already was established to be able to teleport people around making him an absolute idiot in that scene for not doing it. There really was no good reason to skip something as iconic as Cobra Jafar. I do mind that he was not an old menacing man but no Cobra Jafar was even worse, the actor was fine even if old Jafar would have been alot better for me. Jasmin was great even if her story was expanded and Aladdin and Genie were also fine. There was a really embarassing scene in the movie that was like "sort of different" in the old movie when Aladdinw as goofing around having problems to hold up his charade and this embarassing scene was kinda funny.

Still I would have done this movie very differently. And if they do Jafar's Return I hope they bring in Cobra Jafar for that.

The genie, played by Will Smith, was very funny in it's own unique way. Songs are revised versions of the original ones, but are still enjoyable to listen to. Jasmine and Aladdin are well played by their respective actors, but the other characters have become extra's to their original versions. Jafar isn't nearly as terrifying and dangerous as the original 1992 version, and has a strange fetish with invading neighbouring countries for no other reason than territorial expansion.

The realism of visuals suffer due to the sets being made out of CGI for the most part, looking worse than some of the original Ice Age movies. Whoever said that practical effects are unnecessary or pointless should get his head out of his/her ass, and this movie is the perfect example of why too much CGI will hurt your movie.

The final act is unfortunately rather underwhelming. If you were looking forward to the scene where Jafar turns into a massive Snake, you'll be disappointed. Instead, Jago turns into a bigger bird... Great. What a missed oppertunity.

Also, the movie leans strongly to Social Justice Warriors propoganda, as Jasmine becomes the next ruler of a Muslim ruled state... yes i'm not making this up. This comes through especially when Jasmine sings a song for a second time, braking the immersion of a particular scene. I don't mind woman empowerment in media, but implement it in a creative and believable way. All in all, this was a good movie. It was funny and amusing. I give this movie a 7/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Aladdin was my favorite Disney growing up, this live version was beautifully done. Great cast, great chemistry. Chemistry between Aladdin and Princess Jasmine is electric, you sense the great love connection between the two as they stare and gazed upon one another. As well as the chemistry between Aladdin and the Genie; explosive. The classic songs from the original revamped and well performed. Will Smith paid homage to Robin Williams take on the Genie and added his flavor to it but didn’t tarnish Williams’ version. The new addition song in the live version speechless was passionately and amazingly performed by Naomi Scott which left me “speechless” at the end of her performance. Loved how strong and independent Jasmine is in this version and how Aladdin has got a little swagger to him. Overall an adventurous, fun, funny and entertaining film. Guy Ritchie did an amazing job directing this film. Was concerned when I heard he was to direct this film because his previous films were very different and almost the opposite of this type of genre but well done Guy Ritchie well done. Expand

The additional storyline changes were welcome but the acting of the main character felt a bit weak and overshadowed by the characters of Genie and Jasmine sadly. Still worth watching through Disney+

A magical masterpiece without the usual Disney virtue signals.

I remember my thrill and exhilaration when I first saw Optimus Prime in a real life (well CGI anyway) in the movies which brought the Transformers cartoons to "real life". It was all in the recognition and I felt like a little kid in a candy store. I've never felt the same about any other movie. Until now, thanks to Aladdin. When I was younger I watched the animated version of Aladdin three times - yes three times - in the movies. I loved the show. So I held my breath when I went to watch the real life 2019 version of Aladdin (and a blue CGI genie of course) movie. I was worried Disney would trash any semblance of the original animated Aladdin with their usual in-your-face, virtue-signalling, activist crap (like they did on Star Wars: The Last Jedi) or removing the very essence of the characters they portray (like they did with Tolkien, removing the man's Christian faith from the man himself). Thankfully, they didn't kill this incarnation of Aladdin. I found myself feeling like a kid again, mesmerised by the wonder and fun that is Agrabah and Aladdin. It was movie magic all over again, all thanks to a brilliant cast and producer Guy Ritchie. The cast, ok, where do I start. Mena Massoud captured the very essence of cheeky, suave and big-eyed Aladdin - it's quite incredible that he managed to, at times, mimick the animation! Naomi Scott capably represented the beautiful, steady and confident Princess Jasmine - she had guts, she stands on her own, she is also all-heart. Both of them had a very cute chemistry that was reminiscent of the animated movie many years earlier. Will Smith truly and successfully made the genie his own, down to the funny antics. Marwan Kenzari played a much younger looking Jafar than in the movies, but this also worked alongside the main characters. Oh and the monkey Abu, is just too cute.

I believe what makes this Aladdin movie a real success is twofold. Firstly, it respects the original film - the beautiful songs, the familiar settings, Agrabah's look and feel, the blue genie, the young Aladdin and Jasmine - they're all there. If you loved the animated Aladdin the way I did, you'd love this live "real" version of Aladdin. Secondly, it also stamped it's own mark to differentiate itself from the original film. The dance sequences were a mix of the traditional and modern, a fusion of cultural dances. The familiar songs were arranged differently and felt contemporary. Aladdin and Jasmine, by virtue of being real humans, really maximised the "reality" factor of what is supposed to be a mere fairy tale. And Will Smith successfully stepped out of Robin Williams' genie, and truly made this genie his own - this was important because if Will Smith tried to be a Robin Williams, the genie would've failed miserably. Nah, this blue genie is a completely different character (only Will Smith can play THIS genie) at the core, yet retained the jovial, fun-loving and irreverent personality that embodies the genie. The only one who is very different in terms of look and feel was Jafar, and that was OK. This Jafar felt modern and younger, though I think they could've made him a bit more "sneakier" in the looks department. All in all, I loved the cast.

Honestly, I watched this new Aladdin movie, completely entranced by the colourful, beautiful, "Whole New World" of Agrabah, and yet I immediately connected with every single character as they appeared, down to the flying carpet itself - this movie is all heart, all beauty, all humour, everything you'd want in a movie. This is truly one of the best movies I've watched in years. Honestly, this was a wonderful, magical experience. I highly recommend this - well done to the cast and crew of this show. I'll be watching it again! Highly highly highly recommended.

Don’t understand the reviews. This is well acted, fun and respectful to the old movie. Much better than Lion King!

Filme maravilhoso que não tenta ser uma cópia desnecessária do original. Tem personalidade própria e se manteve tão divertido quanto.

Film is good! I absolutely love that you used originally songs and plot, thank you Disney. I took 1 star for plot problems, there were some unlogic things, even that is fairytale. But if you doing **** SW episodes, with fairytale you are the best

Will Smith = pure genius !!!! Not sure why some dance sequences were sped up - looked a little contrived. Otherwise really good.

The camerawork also contained some baffling choices. Nearly every action and dance sequence looks like it was noticeably sped up, which made them jarring to watch. I also can't understand why they refuse to cast people who can actually sing well (excluding Jasmine, who's voice is exceptional). Aladdin and the Genie largely speak-sing their way through the musical numbers.

All the actors were really good, Will Smith as Genie fully delivers and they capture everything that made the original that good. Of cause they made changes and modernized the story a bit. It is mostly fitting and does not harm the movie experience. Lets start at the beginning. Aladdin’s tale is from “One thousand and One night” where Scheherazade has to tell her husband the king stories to avoid being executed (He is not a bad man but life has hit him so hard it crippled him inside). Disney adapted the story to a really great animated movie in 1992. I watched it in cinema and it is one of my favorite Disney movies. Because of this any remake has a hard stance to compete. Like before it is the story of the orphaned thief aka street urchin Aladdin. He has a hearth of gold or like they say he is an uncut diamond. One day he meets an unknown seeming rich woman and the two have a nice day. Meanwhile grand vizier Jafar is plotting to gain more power. I stop here to avoid spoilers. The story sticks close to the original and its classical heroes journey. While not as good as the original it is still really good and I was entertained from start to finish. The actors were well chosen and improved the movie. Lets start with Will Smith as Genie because I was skeptical here. He positively surprised me and was amazing. He did Robin Williams justice. It ends not there as Mena Massoud is a fantastic Aladdin, Marwin Kenzari a remarkable villain as Jafar (but should be used more) and Naomi Scott as Jasmine was incredible good. There are however a few weaknesses. The Sultan played by Navid Negahban is a bit pale as character and Iago is far weaker (More realistic). I fully enjoyed the new character Dalia played by Nasim Pedrad and her story with the Genie. Now something surprising. I am mostly a person who does not like the singing in Disney movies that much. Here I like it a lot and only skipped a few times. I praise this. The settings, costumes and special effects look great. They convinced me in a way that I never doubted the movie. Overall this is a really good movie and I give an 8/10. While not as good as the original it has its own merits and I enjoyed it. Expand
