*NO SPOILERS* I usually trust coming to Metacritic/Rotten Tomatoes to see how a movie does both from critics and fans BEFORE going to see it cuz it's usually a pretty good indicator of what to expect. Like so many things in life no matter*NO SPOILERS* I usually trust coming to Metacritic/Rotten Tomatoes to see how a movie does both from critics and fans BEFORE going to see it cuz it's usually a pretty good indicator of what to expect. Like so many things in life no matter what it is there will be almost always equal amounts that like it or hate it and some just say *MEH*..it's when you see large skews toward of one these that you take notice (one of the signs that "Last Jedi" was gonna be disappointing for me..critics gave all 10s..fanbois gave it 0s)

..so when I see nearly 50 critics give QUIET PLACE universal love (they had reviewed it before general release) I thought "Wow! this most be something"..one even gave it to highest praise for me and compared it to ALIENS (prolly my fave monster flick of all time)

To be fair QUIET PLACE is a GOOD flick..especially when one realizes it was made on shoestring budget..BUT it is hardly in the league as ALIENS

Opening sequence (prologue?..before title) was great at setting mood and tone..and the packed theatre I saw it with actually APPLAUDED it like a stage show

..BUT rest of movie was VERY VERY slow in unfolding..so much that even I was like "OK, lets move this along"..at 90 minutes it's not a long movie..but it sure felt like one to me..one guy actually got up half way thru and left and before he did he yelled back into the silent theatre "THIS MOVIE SUX!" to the cheers & boos of the others..truthfully, I kinda agreed with him at the time. The movie does eventually get to action..but the whole time I am also thinking..Jeez, what if this WAS real? How would I go about protecting myself and fighting these things. ON several levels these guys seemed kinda dumbasses on how they went about it..Jeez! why don't you do THIS?!..why did you do THAT?!
..altho I guess we wouldn't have much of a movie if I was calling shots

again not bad movie..actually a good one..just not the AMAZING near perfect score of 97 that this film had BEFORE wide release

John Krasinski (The Office) directed and stars with his real wife Emily Blunt as a married couple with kids. They have to live a near quiet existence because making ANY noise can be a matter of life and death. A Quiet Place is a taught drama/thriller that uses virtual silence to slowly build tension. With the artful and clever concept of little to no dialogue, the film keeps the audience engaged and too scared to make a sound themselves (you don't even wan to munch on your popcorn) Yes, as with many thrillers, there are a few plot holes, but the plot is unique, the acting is good and suspense is palpable. Parents: No bad language or sexual situations, but several emotional and intense scenes. Worthwhile, edge-of-your-seat film In My Humble Opinion! Expand

To put this in perspective, I have just made an account on metacritic just so I can write this review. This movie was incredible. From the very first scene, to the very last, this movie drew me in and did not let me go. I typically find thriller/scary movies dumb in a lot of ways. From how the characters act to the storyline and so on. This movie surprised me by how smart and intriguing it was and I was honestly sitting on the edge of my seat the entire time. The acting was incredible by all the characters, with each one having their own moments of really shining and the directing was also superb. Are their some flaws in this movie? Perhaps, because no movie is perfect. But as of right now, it is really hard for me to think of any. For the thriller genre, this is one of the best movies I have seen in quite some time and I can honestly recommend this movie for everyone to see. Hope you all get something out of this and are encouraged to watch this movie! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The performances and much of the second half of the film makes up for the amount of illogical and pointless things that happen in the name of creating tension that actually don't do that at all. In the end it feels like a Doctor Who episode in as much as we're basically watching a character slowly work out something that has been mercilessly hammered into our skulls as an audience. That's what most of the movie is in the end. Split on rating this a 5 or 6 but I guess I'll be generous. Expand

First movie review ever - but my thoughts on this film are so polar opposite than the critics I feel compelled to write..

The premise of this movie is beyond idiotic, and as soon as you begin to ask yourself questions (who planted / harvested that corn quietly? why don't they set up a homestead near the noisy waterfall? why don't they have bird bangers or other noisemakers set up to go off at random intervals to disguise the noises they make? How is that baby so incredibly quiet? How is this family of four living on 3 fish a week? How was no one else on Earth able to find the solution to this problem - finding out how to turn their strength into a weakness seems pretty obvious) and on and on... the whole thing becomes so overwhelmingly dumb that it is hard to stay in the theatre. How could these morons be the only people left on Earth? I had not read any reviews before I went and I assumed it would be rated awfully - I could not believe it when I saw all of the positive reviews. If you want to enjoy this one, you will really need to turn your brain off entirely.

What the movie excels at is expressing human emotion without speaking a single word.
I did not find the movie scary, as I have grown out of monster-type horror movies. The monster itself wasn't that groundbreaking, as it looked very generic.

What the movie excels at is expressing human emotion without speaking a single word. Most of the movie dialog is through sign language and facial expression, and you can tell what the characters in the movie are going through. There are moments when they are able to speak without attracting the monster, but those scenes aren't as powerful as the rest of the movie.

Overall, all the actors did an amazing job at making the characters feel real.

This movie is apparently like an IQ test. I'd rather watch the Paris Hilton remake of "House of Wax", or "Jeepers Creepers 2" 10x than sit through this brain-dead POS 1 more time. It forces you to have quiet contemplative moments to reflect on how absolutely retarded its derivative plot devices, and all of its characters are.

Slim Whitman head explosions anyone? JFC!

Where's Vin Diesel when we need him? ...wait, wrong sense. My bad.

Sand? Sand!

Why use a lantern if you have so many lightbulbs? Gotta start fires somehow I guess. That Monopoly money's not gonna burn itself. Oxygen cannister? Butane lighter! Check.

Where'd that peksy baby coffin lid go? Who cares!

Why don't monsters sink in corn? I dunno... Dort dort dort!!!

25 security cameras, 100 jury-rigged hearing aids, 2,000 red lightbulbs, and not a single wired up airhorn? Sure... Why not.

How heavy is sand? How do you harvest corn quietly? If I shout over a HAM radio, and nobody's tuned in, does it make a sound?

Shrug.

Waterfalls! Of course! WATERFALLS!

...and candles! We need MORE candles!!! Kids, follow the sand-trail downtown and GET ME MORE CANDLES!

And more farm-to-table family dinners, more Edison lights, and more g-darn electric lightbulb-lit kerosene lanterns sitting on top of hay stacks.

...and stupid children, we'll need a lot more of those!!!

J F F'ing C this is the best-rated absolutely horrible movie I've ever sat through... Blair Witch Project has been de-throned, and I dread the clones to follow.

The weed at SXSW must have been pretty damn good ... (Psst... I created an account on here just to post this, because it's that bad. I tried not to include spoilers, but the plot is so mind-numbingly bad I think I maybe crypto-spolied it. Whispering is effective.)

TheA Quiet Place is a horror movie that is surprisingly thoughtful and unique. The concept of not making any sound or speaking adds an interesting dynamic to the movie and makes for some really great facial performances from the actors. The horror and tension is only heightened by the lack of sound, making you constantly on the edge of your seat as you pray each character does not slip up and make noise. The story focuses on a family, meaning the characters are very close and this allows for the characters to be very relatable to audience members. It is the type of horror movie everyone should see. Even if you are not a fan of the genre, A Quiet Place offers something most other horror movies do not. Expand

A Quiet Place puts some fresh blood into the horror genre. It's very inventive, and the concept is really cool and a lot of fun to explore. The film itself teeters between horror and adventure, and you can definitely see a little bit of Executive Producer Michael Bay's touches in the film, but they make it fun more than bog the action down. A Quiet Place is a lot like if someone took the kitchen scene with the velociraptors in Jurassic Park and made a whole movie out of that one concept. you should tell her..

A Quiet Place

An idea or a concept isn't everything, there actually factors lots of stuff; from writing to execution or from characters to performance, and it has got everything just in the right place and a bit more than that. The sheer brutal silent pitches on screen are more horrific than its eerie world, appalling creatures and breathtaking sound effects. There are few sequences installed in, so perfectly that one fails to not connect or be effected with it that easily results into teary eyes and long gasping of horrors. John Krasinski's latest project is devoured with his affection towards horror and that is exactly the key that not only unlocks this mystic place into something colossal but connects frame-to-frame to the audience with the help of his brilliant execution skills. Addition to that, the performance objective is scored utterly by the whole cast on chemistry where even though Emily Blunt has a wider range than John Krasinski, he steals the show as a sore middle aged man surviving the nature. Bryan Woods, Scott Beck and John Krasinski; the co-writers, tends to keep the practicality evolving in the script (like when John loads the shotgun carefully and advances further but doesn't actually use it) despite of its genre, keeping the crisp alive to resemble through it. A Quiet Place is surprisingly a character driven feature that hits hard and fast (it is edited perfectly) with its 'mature' script that only offers hints of ideas and still creates the anticipated impact, narrowing it down to a metaphorical tone.

This is a very personal story about one family and what they need to do in order to survive. The world building is very well done and interesting and the characters are fantastically written and acted. There is no weak link in the case. John Krasinski and Emily Blunt are perfect in their roles. The kids are also fantastic, with Millicent Simmonds being a standout. For a first time film director John Krasinski does a pretty damn good job and while there is nothingI didn't like A Quiet Place. It wasn't a good movie but it wasn't bad movie either and as it stands I consider it to be an average film. For a first time film director John Krasinski does a pretty damn good job and while there is nothing particularly unique about his style he certainly shows his capacity to improve and show potential to improve greatly in the future. Furthermore the performance of Krasinski and Blunt are superb in the film as they give captivating emotional performances throughout the film. Now at this point you must wonder why I've only given the film a 5 when all I've done is praise it, and while the performances of the adult cast and direction are at very good standards it is the performances of the younger cast members and bad plot decisions that drag this film down heavily. The performances of the child actors in this film are painfully boring to watch and you can tell quite clearly that they're inexperienced and can only display a very limited array of acting skills. In the film everything they do looks either incredibly fake or wooden and you're begging for the next scene with adults to get back to the good parts of this film. The plot of this film relies very heavily on the aspect of suspending belief. In the film there is a limited number of creatures (atleast 4 in the films rural area) and as an audience we are supposed to believe that about roughly ten thousand of these monsters wiped out not only most of the United States which exercises the second amendment but successfully killed near 7 billion people. In the films defense the explanation given is that they're armor plated and incredibly fast, but if the films writers expect me to believe that not one weapon in the worlds global arsenal could kill a single one of these creatures, i'm not falling for it. Additionally, like all horror movies, the movie relies on the characters doing stupid sh*t to escalate the plot. This is where the film resorts to The Three Stooges levels of shenanigans, with a lack of Benny Hill track in the films final act to pump out jump scare after another. Characters basically make matters worse for themselves in the films finale as they each spend time with the creature thinking about how they'll kill themselves. This is made even more hilarious by the fact that these are people that have survived well over a year into the attack and yet manage to royally f*ck up all too effortlessly.

A Quiet Place is a well filmed original horror movie with great performances from the adult cast. However while it boast originality it's poorly constructed overall plot and bad acting from its younger leads holds this film back from being the intelligent thriller it needed to be.

A family must live out their lives in silence to avoid being killed by mysterious monsters that hunt purely by sound. A gripping and hugely intense experience. I know it’s only April but this might just be the best horror of the year.

Starring and directed by John Krasinski, also starring Emily Blunt, Noah Jupe and Millicent Simmonds. A horror/thriller done right, A Quiet Place delivers exactly what you expect and more. It wastes no time getting started, you’re plunged into silence for a good portion of the film so for all you noisy popcorn munchers out there you’ve been warned. A movie that requires everyone to remain quiet, every sound is deafening and the frights have an even greater impact. A tense and thrilling experience build around a simple yet original idea. A Quiet Place achieves what many horrors fail at, it doesn’t fall apart in the third act but more importantly it will scare you. Highly recommended.

This has everything horror films need to have. The focus on sound is masterfully utilized and brought out the absolute best in the amazing cast through their emotionally brilliant acting. The unique creature design is THE best I’ve seen in a decade, and they are truly grotesquely magnificently portrayed with legitimately realistic cgi. I was afraid they wouldn’t show them that much in the film, but they were prevalent and pulverizing in every frame they were in. In the end it does end pretty abruptly and you don’t really get origins or explanations regarding the alien creatures but that’s really my only nitpick. This is truly a new horror classic to behold and Krasinki is now at the forefront of great new directors and will be one to watch with his future ventures with his keen eye for detail and suspense. Unfortunately, I found it quite disappointing. The pace is incredibly slow, particularly at the beginning, and the story becomes wearisome quickly. It has a basic premise, alien invasion, people on the run and it doesn't get any more complicated than that. Although there were some interesting scenes where the sense of imminent danger was well delivered, I never felt particularly scared which is the hallmark of any good horror. Both Emily Blunt and John Krasinski were certainly dedicated in their roles as husband and wife trying to protect their remaining children but I still never felt any connection to them or their predicament. There was no character development to speak of, and the world they inhabited was not shown or developed in any way. I'm assuming that was intentional but neither did I feel they piqued my interest in the fate of the rest of the world outside their small farm. Another issue I had was with the CG alien creatures. They looked very similar to the ones from Cloverfield lane, and it seemed there was little desire in making something new and original here. Seeing these monsters wholly unveiled left nothing to the imagination and, substantially reduced the overall tension that could have been produced had we not known what they entirely looked like or were capable of from the beginning. The story, on the whole, seemed more like a focused study on how a family would cope if such a disaster occurred and how it would alter their day to day lives as they attempted to survive rather than a developed piece of horror fiction.

Overall it's a decent albeit somewhat bland movie that's worth a look however if you're in the market for a real horror story that'll chill you to the bone for a couple of hours then this, unfortunately, isn't it.

OMG, this movie is AMAZING. Best suspense film i've watched. Alfred Hitchcock should be scared if he was alive; better than The Sixth Sense or The Others. Sound FX are pure tension. CGI monsters are shocking. Great performances by Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, Noah Jupe & Millicent Simmonds; wonderful direction & script by John Krasinski. At the end you're gonna want a second part; everybody would clap, cheer, applaud, acclaim & yell, if they weren't stupefied stuck to the seat claiming for more. Expand
