Braveheart and Gladiator wannabe...this storyline was unoriginal. The visuals were good but that's the only reason it got a five. They even steal a lot of the fight choreography from Braveheart and Gladiator.

Should be watched alongside Idiocracy. This really is film for people with literally no intelligence. It's like a cross between LOTR, Starship Troopers, Gladiator, and Monty Python's The Holy Grail. Sweet... all I have to say about this one. Pumped with breathtaking non-stop action and beautiful cinematography where everyone seems to be emitting a slight glow as they react beautifully with the background scenery, along with a seemlessSweet... all I have to say about this one. I loved this movie from start to finish. I watched this move three times on the big screen. My excitement didn't dwindle from watching it over and over either. The action and graphics still keep me enjoying this movie to this day.

Like Paul K said, I would recommend the movie to anyone who was interested in the preview. Certainly not for those who hate to see ultra-violent flicks (which is definitely keeping within the style of Miller). Be prepared to see just about every human body part flying in the air at some point...just without the massive blood spurt that would come with its sudden removal. Now if you'll excuse me, I have about 10,000 crunches to do.… Expand

Honestly, if you did not see a plot in this movie, you must have had your fingers in your ears the entire movie. Yes, if you listen to the speech, it does reveal the plot for the movie (surprise!). An awesome movie. Followed the graphic novel really well with all of the artistic aspects of it. Of course they through in some hollywood filler, but that is to be expected. There's too many arrows; too many ships; too many soldiers; all thanks to CGI, which makes a seemingly infinite number of objects look artificial and flat. And where did they cast the 300 soldiers? Visually arresting, and great fun. although quite strange and unbelievable at times.. you'll know what i'm talking about once you've seen it.

This movie is gorgeous to behold! There is bloodshed, but that is unavoidable in a tale that pits 300 Spartans protecting their right to live as free men against a massive army of invading Persians. The bloodletting is not so much extreme as it is relevant and poetic and stylized. Zach Snyder has portrayed this battle - which includes skewered limbs and decapitations - with an artistic grace that removes the 'cringe' factor. The spattering blood is not overdone. It is relevant and understandable. It is elemental. I am a woman and I drank this movie in. 300 strips away all the nonsense that we are sometimes subjected to in story telling and gets to the basics. There is no foolish fluff in this movie. It is raw! Every word, move, action, look and sound is relevant. The soundtrack blends flawlessly. There is nothing to distract you from the pure beauty of the visuals and the unprocessed emotion portrayed. 300 is about strength and honor and courage and even love. I know… Expand

Brilliant execution throughout of bringing a graphic novel to film. If as much focus was given to casting and writing as was allocated for visual effects; this movie would be disgustingly awesome! 9 out of 10.

Overall, the movie was fine. But for something one ths scale I expect more than just fine. I would have liked to see more plot, but I guess that wasn't the point of the movie. 300 is EXCELLENT! Do see it on the big screen. It's a true spectacle that needs the space. This one is an inspiration in the mode of Brave Heart, yet it is utterly unlike any other movie we have ever seen. Its unique artistry makes it a 300 is EXCELLENT! Do see it on the big screen. I think it's a sad state of affairs when we take a movie of genius proportions based on a graphic novel (something alot of you do not get, a freakin' comic book for god sakes) and only give it a 53. Not being familiar with the graphic novel I was stunned by how unoriginal the material is. We've seen this movie before and done much more effectively in Gladiator, Braveheart, etc. 300 makes a great trailer but not much else. Also, the visuals aren't that impressive. Aside from a handful of stunning images that are in the trailer the movie is actually quite dull and grainy looking. The entire time I was aware that the images were computer generated, making it difficult to care or believe in the action. Don't believe the hype.… Expand

Really freakin cool movie. excellent adaptation of Frank Miller's graphic novel. Also, I find it amusing that this wildly successful movie had such bad reviews. shows how out of touch most crititcs are. forget the critics.

I saw this movie at an IMAX, and i must say i was stunned. Having read the graphic novel before hand, i was happy to see that the director followed the novel very closely. If you are not a fan of violence in movies this film is not for you.

A crushing disappointment. 300 is historically inaccurate, filled with unintentionally laughable dialogue, too invested in vapid characters, and I swear that at least 75% of the movie consists of shots of mens' abdominal regions. The film is not supposed to be an accurate interpretation of the battle of Thermopylae, but is supposed to follow what Frank Miller put into his comic book. The plot is not the most enticing plot ever conceived, but from what I have seen, the action sequences, beautifully made scenes, and moving words more than make up for it. This is definitely a movie worth watching, so I will give it a 10.… Expand

Graphic novelist/ artist Frank Miller has stated that he was inspired to do his interpretation of the Battle of Thermopylae by The 300 Spartans, a 1962 cheeseball would-be epic starring Richard Egan that, if nothing else, proves that Miller Graphic novelist/ artist Frank Miller has stated that he was inspired to do his interpretation of the Battle of Thermopylae by The 300 Spartans, a 1962 cheeseball would-be epic starring Richard Egan that, if nothing else, proves that Miller apparently has a limitless attention span: even allowing for the very broad guilty-pleasure parameters of the sword-and-sandal genre, even Airplane!'s Captain Oveur would find it remarkably dull. Dull is certainly a word that, in all fairness, CAN'T be used to describe Zack Snyder's screen version of Miller's work. Endlessly pompous, self-important, turgid, bombastic, pretentious AND simple-minded (two adjectives that normally don't go together, but do here), and borderline obnoxious, sure...but dull, no. (At least not until after the 300th or so impalement/ dismemberment/ decapitation, anyway.) Snyder may have received praise in some circles for accurately interpreting Miller, but all that does is prove that some books simply shouldn't be brought to the screen at all, because all the hard work that went into replicating Miller's "look" resulted in an absolute visual nightmare: it's so blurry that 4 months from now, unsuspecting DVD renters seeing 300 for the first time will spend the movie's entire two hours endlessly fiddling with the 'sharpness' button on their remotes; the actors, to a one are photographed as if being caught in the middle of transmogrifying into stone sculptures. This actually befits most of the performances, because with the exception of Gerard Butler's heroic King Leonides and Lena Hudley's smoulderingly sexy Queen Gorgo, who lend some subtlety and nuance if only because they're allowed to use a normal tone of voice once in a while, all the actors are directed to DECLAIM! ALL! THEIR! LINES! EXACTLY! LIKE! THIS! And the much-discussed wall-to-wall bloodletting really has no impact whatsoever, not only because it gets to be so deadeningly repetitive, but because the red stuff flying across the screen looks much less like anything a CSI crew would recognize than like the wax globules present in lava lamps, and I'm not sure that 300 intended to remind us more of the late 1960s through mid-1970s AD then of 480 BC. Far more creepy and disturbing is the knowledge that in some corners 300--a movie that stops just short of endorsing the retroactive abortion practiced on babies judged too weak to be effective warriors, and that clothes (unclothes?) its heroes as gay poster boys throughout--is being lauded as some sort of neocon Triumph of the Will simply because it so nakedly and unapologetically trumpets war; if that's not ample evidence, on the 4th anniversary of the Iraq conflict, of the increasing desperation employed by its proponents in defending it, I don't know what is. And speaking of ironic timelines, it's notable that 300's studio, Warner Bros., just announced the DVD release of a dozen 1950s to early 1970s camp classics ranging from good films (the seminal women's prison movie Caged) to interesting curios (Howard Hawks' Land of the Pharoahs) to a lot of absolute junk (Trog, Skyjacked, Queen of Outer Space). 300 may have logged $70 million in its opening weekend--more by far than such genuinely good current releases as Zodiac, The Astronaut Farmer and Black Snake Moan will bring in COMBINED during their total box office run--but some of those earlier cinematic butts of jokes originally made money too, and I'll be eagerly looking forward to the utterly humorless but spectacularly silly 300's inevitable inclusion in a future batch of Warners so-bad-it's-good series when it's released in, say, the year 2012.… Expand

This film is totally forgettable, and I am confident it will succumb to that fate. The cinematography is fascinating, and is the film's most redeeming quality. Like others, I abhor the exploitation of violence for profit. However, perhaps vivid scenes of violence related to war is needed by a culture that sterilizes war. Still, the violence here is almost "comic book" in nature. Whereas "The Departed" often made me lower my eyes from the screen, I never flinched in this film. I took my eye from the screen only for reason of occassional boredom. I hope this film is not indicative of where the "blue screen" is taking us.… Expand

Just odd comments here and there that sounded thrown in in a half-hearted attempt to make the greeks seem current, or to make us relate maybe. I've not read the graphic novel so I'm not sure that's present there as well, but the visual homages to renaissance christian images did much less to dampen the mood than the strange bursts of timeliness. Visually, quite interesting, but you'd be better off tuning out the dialogue.… Expand

Great movie. Little heavy on the dramaic pauses andmoments. All in all it was more historically accurate than I expected it to be, as it was told from the legend perspective, instead of a historical perspective. Great action scenes and gore. Great movie. Heroic,moving and uplifting. The graphics blended so smoothly with what was real. This movie confirmed that life with intregrity, freedom and honor is worth dying for. I have waited along time to see a movie of this calibre.

Somewhat exaggerated in places though considering it was meant to be a bit fantasy/comic-book stylish, exaggeration is acceptable. The amount of blood, the barbarism of the Spartans (and also the Persians to some extent), the size of Xerxes, the looks of some of the Persians and the old preists, the hunchback traitor and the ginat guy were all somewhat exaggerated. The priests and Persians looks reminded me of Orcs from Lord of the Rings. The giant guy reminded me of a mountaint troll. Also the 10,000 Immortal Elite Guards looked more like Japanese Samurai than elite trained Persians. At the end of the movie you might find yourself wishing it was a bit more true to history or that the traitor had not betrayed them or that the spear had hit Xerxes.... but overall it was good with vey nice narrative and amazing battle sequences, though the acting could have been better in some places. Graphically/visually this movie was amazing. I was thinking "video game" all through out the movie, and thinking how great a game it would be. The effects in the battle sequences were lovely and gave a sense of total domination. Audio and music score was nice too, though at some points use of modern-style music (techno/rave, etc) felt a bit wierd.… Expand

Loved it. I'm no movie snob, but I have a high standard... 90% of the biggest releases coming out of Hollywood are garbage. I was waiting for this to be exactly that- all hype, and expectedly overrated- but it wasn't. It delivered. Loved it. The only time I can remember doing that was for Wedding Crashers. Just so entertaining. What is lacks in plot it makes up for in pace and visual beauty. The one thing I disliked was the Gladiator-esque wheat field scenes. A little originality, please? Anyways, go see it.… Expand

There is not much depth, emotional or political, to be found in 300, but superbly choreographed battles and a lot of heart make it worth seeing with modest expectations. I was full of anticipation when I went to see this movie. After months of bad-ass previews and anxious waiting, I saw it on opening day. The blood is plentiful, the violence unceasing, and the sex is hardly a necessary thematic element. However, the presentation is astounding, and the visual effects are unsurpassed by any other action/epic of its kind. If you like these types of movies, 300 is a must-see. Seriously.… Expand

Awesome movie, the fighting scenes were very intense and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way. The attention to detail, i thought was very good. I think the ending could have been better, but you can decide for yourself.
