  1. Unfortunately the execution just wasn't quite there.

If you are in the mood for some solid third-person action, great hand-to-hand combat, and some kickass driving sequences then this game is certainly worth a second look. Oh and it doesn't hurt if you are a big fan of Mr. Johnson.
  3. I would love to see another installment with this alternating on-foot/on and off-road style - but it would have to balance things out better between the two styles, and feature a lot of enhancements to the on-foot areas. As it is, players are left with a very exciting driving game and a fairly lifeless 3D adventure game.

The addition of a third-person controllable character to this otherwise entirely vehicle-based series adds an entirely new dimension to the fading series. Playing as The Rock is pretty dang fun, and even if some of the shooting controls are wonky, the melee and wrestling attacks remain consistenly hilarious and enjoyable.

The true strength of Nowhere to Run is built into its pick-up-and-play nature. It gets straight to the action, wasting no time indulging in slow-motion cinematic cut-scenes during battle sequences.
  6. Instead of rebuilding Spy Hunter's Interceptor from the ground up to make an action-racer that could potentially smoke "Burnout," or adding third-person shooting and grappling control to make you feel like Sam Fisher and Triple H at the same time, Nowhere to Run ends up being a mediocre mix of both.
  7. It gets points for its unrelenting pace, but the action in Spy Hunter: Nowhere to Run is too derivative and mechanical to matter.
  8. SpyHunter: Nowhere to Run can be summed up in one word; average. It's not a bad game, it's not a great game. It has some bad ideas and some good ideas and they're all executed in a mediocre fashion.
  9. I hate to say, but I really can't see anyone actually wanting to spend money to play this.
  10. The end result is a ramshackle affair that will please neither hardcore Spy Hunters nor Joe "GTA."
  11. With more time and polish, Nowhere to Run could have shown that Spy Hunter can move beyond the car, but for now, The Interceptor is still the more interesting main character.
  12. The road on Spy Hunter: Nowhere to Run is too rocky to be a keeper. It's a one-night rental -- tops.

Its control system is weak, the gameplay mechanics are basic and repetitive and The Rock is woefully underused.
  14. There are far more intelligent investments to be made in the rapidly enhancing game market.
  15. That "been there, done that" feeling comes more often than not, whether it's the cheesy bond-like story line and action sequences, the 'burnout' like stunt scenes, or simply the fact that this doesn't really feel like Spy Hunter at all, with the exception of a few race points.

Terrific music and some fun moments can't save Spy Hunter from feeling bargain-bin. [Dec. 2006, p.76]

The video game equivalent to a straight-to-video B-movie: it can be entertaining in spots, even though you know the whole is painfully lame.

More of a hassle than a pleasure to play. The glitches, poor controls and shabby visuals leave Spy Hunter: Nowhere to Run without much to offer, even if you're an avid fan of the series. It's such a departure from what the series is known for, it could easily be called "Generic Action Game & Car."
  19. I gave Spy Hunter: Nowhere To Run plenty of chances to impress me, but it came up short, with its glitched-out graphics and a control scheme that's too wonky for its own good, whether you're on foot or in the car.

Please don't do any more games like this, The Rock. You deserve better. [Nov. 2006, p.130]

I wanted badly to just play this and get rid of it but the more I play it the more I realize this game cannot depart my game library even though it is nearly three gaming generations old. The AI, yes, absolutely embarrassing and laughable but they do their job well with constant excitement throughout the game. There are a few issues with control but they aren't broken, just maybe a little bit unpolished. And I did run into a few minor bugs.....so how on earth am I giving this an 8/10, a must own or play rating? For me you get a lot of value in this title especially at today's price. The game is just plain fun and exciting throughout and I disagree that this game strayed too far from the spyhunter theme. The game starts off easy and slow but by about chapter four the game really picks up. Gameplay is a mix of car missions and third person shooter. I think both types of gameplay really blend the spyhunter theme well. About midgame you can unlock an arcade version of the game. I think this arcade version is better than the original spyhunter arcade game which was a huge hit so it's really hard for me to buy into the complaints this game received. This title also contains some bonus gameplay and you can start playing it as you unlock it. And you can unlock more advanced weapons in the game for further longevity. If you are into retro gaming I would highly recommend you check this game out. I have to think at the time it was released it was overlooked with the xbox 360 and ps3 just about to be launched. It doesn't have the best start but once you get to chapter four I think you will be fine from then on and like the game. As I mentioned the game has terrible AI but they are cheesy and enjoyable because of it. The action is decent throughout and I like the immersion. Some things this game did like having your weapon fall out of your hands if you get hit by melee or bomb make sense and in this sense I feel this immersion exceeds many current generation games. I feel the game is a decent depiction of the era in which it was made. All the cliches and feel are there and to be honest the execution isn't really bad, not to the point it got the scores it did. I'm not gonna lie, the game has issues but when you sum up everything I find this game to be a keeper none the less. Unlocking the arcade game alone is worth the games current price. Full Review »

With my perfessional opinion, I would have to say that this game is the best! The babes are very fine too!
