Being able to play them again, without plopping down pounds of quarters and inhaling ozone all night, is fabulous. I hope they keep coming.
-
Midway's selections are not only well thought out but they also perform as flawlessly as possible given the hardware and peripheral differences.
-
Game InformerClassic compilations really don't get much better than this...A nostalgic dream come true.
-
Unfortunately, most of these videos have terrible sound quality and it can be hard to make out what the group is saying half the time.
-
It's a must for old schoolers and also a must for the younger generation so they can see what we had to play and how far videogaming has come in the last 20 years.
-
While I still feel that "MAT 1" features the better collection of games, this one irons out some of its wrinkles, and has a great game roster in its own right.
-
Midway Arcade Treasures 2 has one major attribute and that is nostalgia. If you own this disc already chances are that you are an old school gamer and are reliving the old glory days.
-
Playing these old games really gave me some perspective on the progress we've made in games since these were initially released. Midway has also priced this collection aggressively and at $1 a game you really can't beat the bang for your buck.
-
The funny thing is that Midway probably could have combined the best games in both complications and released just one version of the Arcade Treasures.
-
This amazing compilation DVD has games that you can now only find in airport terminals and bowling alleys. Parents can finally compete with their kids and actually have an advantage, and there is even some educational and historical value to this collection.
-
Isn't the best compilation that money can buy. For $20 though, you'll be getting a lot of games which more or less function very well. If you are even remotely interested (particularly in "MKII" and "MK3") be sure to pick it up.
-
Has its fair share of crusty titles you won't play, but the good ones are absolute gems. 15 is a bargain price to relive your misspent youth, if only for a few precious hours. [Off Xbox UK Magazine]
-
The game is a penny shy of twenty dollars, and for that price, if you remember any of these games there is no reason not to pick it up and relive those days spent hunched 'round a cabinet, stubbing out cigarettes on the top and hoping the manager didn't see.
-
The game offers something for every gamer, from those who remember the games on the disc at the arcade, to those who just want to see what their parents may have played.
-
Not all of the games have aged particularly well. Pit Fighter, Kozmik Kroozr', and Primal Rage are almost unplayable, and the obnoxious taunts of Wizard of Wor will send you scrambling for the mute button.
-
I still feel that the game could have included some more classics, but with what they gave you most of us will be quite satisfied.
-
There are far more games in this package that will appeal to the current generation of videogamers, since most of the titles in the pack offer far more depth and replay value than the original collection.
-
The inclusion of nearly perfect emulations of "Mortal Kombat 2" and "3" alone make this collection worth it for any fighting fan.
-
netjakEven the non-stellar titles are at least playable, and nothing that I would consider "bad," since they all had their own sort of innovative aspects.
-
Official Xbox MagazineBut what's really a labor of love is all the bonus material - historical info, original poster and advertising art, and behind-the-scenes videos with the games' creators. [Nov 2004, p.85]
-
Granted, none of the games are anywhere near today's standards in game play, control, graphics, or sound... but if you're buying this title for the games that are on it, you already know what you're getting.
-
Still, not bad when you consider it'd cost you the same to get a GBA cartridge with just one NES game on it, and what price nostalgia, eh?
-
Play MagazineThe interface has been vastly improved over the original "Treasures", but unfortunately the bonus interviews suffer from unintelligible audio. [Nov 2004, p.75]
-
While there are some great games on this disc, total duds like Kozmik Krooz'r, Arch Rivals, and Pit Fighter, make MAT2 an uneven compilation in the end. For a better group of games, check out the first "MAT."
-
Most players will be happy to know that all the games' control schemes are mapped out pretty well on the Xbox's controller.
-
As with most classic arcade compilations, the games here tend to hold up pretty well, and for the most part, they're very close to the arcade originals.
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyYou must buy this rad $20 collection of 20 good, bad, and butt-ugly games. [Dec 2004, p.170]
-
Midway's got your party covered. The included games are dying to be played in pairs or groups. In fact, many of them -- "Xenophobe" and "Timber," among others -- probably shouldn't be played solo.
-
Despite a few glitches and no online play you should definitely find something in here if your young, old, or just never played any of these titles.
-
Some hits and misses, but for 20 dollars, you get more than your money's worth here. Especially since they are all arcade emulations, and not ports from other systems or consoles.
-
TotalGames.netSadly, it would appear that most of Midway's classic titles have already been used in the first compilation and apart from a small selection; a lot of the games on offer are space filers and nothing more.
-
Fantastic value and a great look back at how far gaming has come. Unfortunately though, given the choice between this or a Platinum game, we'd choose the platinum game.
-
Your enjoyment of Midway Arcade Treasures 2 will certainly hinge upon your weakness for nostalgia.
-
The words 'a mixed bag' tell you everything you need to know about Midway Arcade Treasures 2. For every classic like "Mortal Kombat" there's a travesty like "Pit Fighter" - so this one can only be recommended for the purists.
-
It's huge, nicely-reproduced and sells for a great price. But the genuine classics part? Well, not so much. To be frank, there are two types of games in Treasures 2: decrepit hits, and obscure leftovers.
-
Xbox Nation MagazineThere's a good deal of junk included on the disc, and even some of its more beloved titles ("Mortal Kombats II, III" and "Cyberball 2072") have not aged particularly well. [Nov 2004, p.101]
-
There are about five games out of the 20 that we'd ever want to spend time with again, and another half-dozen modern day fillers that have been usurped massively since, while the rest are just truly awful reminders of why things are better just the way they are.
-
It's under a pound a game, although it is more like five pounds each for the three titles you will play almost exclusively over time. Given the amount of cash you put into these things as a kid (multiplied up by a million times because of inflation and interest lost) it's a steal.
