Possibly Bethesda's best game. Time will tell if it has the legs that Skyrim did, but it has the potential. Right out of the gate you need to leave your expectation of a space sim at the door. It's not a space sim, it's an RPG, and a dang good one at that. The perks you choose matter and open up opportunities, there are multiple ways to complete quests, and an incredible amount of character customization and roleplay potential. For those of us who enjoy role-playing our games, very few studios make the sort of games that scratch that "itch." The outer worlds came close, but was too small in scope. Kingdom Come Deliverance was also amazing, but unfortunately you have a fixed character you have to play as. A lot of us prefer to make our own character, and for those of us that do, there's no better option than Bethesda. I'd love if another studio stepped up to the plate and tried to make the same kind of game, but they just don't and won't. So until that day comes, Bethesda makes the best experiences for us roleplay nerds.

The only criticism i have against the game is with performance on PC. Fortunately I play on XBOX where the experience is well optimized, but I've heard it's not the same with PC players unfortunately. Performance aside, it's a 10/10 for me. Massive, deep, repayable, and will keep us RPG fans busy for years to come.

30 fps trash of a space sim. Can't fly to other planets, game is riddled with bugs but not in a skyrim way more like a fallout 76 way. Ship battles that a toddler could handle. Its Skyrim in space. It has a slow start and It needs some polishing.
I don't understand all the bad ratings. Its a good game.
For the state its in now I give it 8/10 for now, but I give it 10 for all the 0 ratings.
Give it some time and It can really be a great game with the mod Community.
It has a little rough takeoff, but it has big potencial to have a perfect landing. (like No Man's Sky)

What a world. People want truth and they will lie to themselves and anyone else to get it, it seems. Their version at least. Anonimity, opinion, bullsh*t. Times change. But you can always trust yourself. A zero out of ten in video games is unjustified hate so I guess vice a versa , which is why maybe I don't rank this game 10, but so far it actually is.

Negatives out of the way first, because there genuinely aren't that many:
    - PC version lacks basic accessibility features, such as an FOV slider, DLSS, etc.
    - You will occasionally encounter identical proc. gen dungeons if you explore enough planets. - Enemy NPC's are still lacking in terms of programming. - The game starts a little slow but given that it's a brand-new IP/universe, I'm

    - You will occasionally encounter identical proc. gen dungeons if you explore enough planets.
    - Enemy NPC's are still lacking in terms of programming.
    - The game starts a little slow but given that it's a brand-new IP/universe, I'm fine with this.
    - There are more loading screens than there should be.

Having said all of that, this game's setting captures you and there are plenty of possibilities gameplay-wise to keep you occupied for hours. Character creation has improved significantly, additions such as traits and backgrounds go a long way in making your character feel unique and grounded in the setting (my character had parents, a house with a mortgage, and a background as a space trucker in the UC, for example).

The game is technically sound when compared to Bethesda's previous efforts, I only encountered three "bugs" in my forty-ish hours of gameplay. The writing has seen a notable step up in quality since Fallout 4. Dialogue options are expanded and the game's persuasion mini-game is well done, I wish other RPG's had a similar system. I also greatly appreciate Starfield's new and improved lockpicking mini-game. Gunplay in this game is also a considerable step up when compared to their previous titles, though the melee combat seems a bit drab in contrast. Starfield also features a solid weapon customization system and an even better ship customization system. You truly get to be who you want to be in this game's universe.

The game's scope is impressive, even if the end result has more loading screens than you'd like. The random encounters both in space and on land are often quite intriguing. Some were complaining about the planetary boundaries on the worlds after you land, but even though I've scanned and surveyed dozens of planets and moons, I've never bumped into these barriers (it's a non issue, in other words). The environments are varied, the fluctuations in gravity and weather make for fun gameplay, and the game's settlement building system can turn any of these worlds into your own homebase.

The sidequests are as eclectic and wacky as ever, the game's companions and crew members are great, and Starfield's soundtrack and world design holds up to the rest of Bethesda's back catalogue. It may not be the future of gaming, but we don't live in the future, and I personally believe that Starfield's positives far outweigh its negatives. It is a good Bethesda game, and that statement alone puts it on the same level as games like Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3, and Fallout 4. If you enjoyed any of those games and are down for a sci-fi adventure, you will have a blast in Starfield. It's every bit as good as any of their previous titles. I'd personally give it an 8.5 out of 10, but I'm rounding up instead of down since it seems there's a lot of bad-faith review bombing going on here.

It's not a bad game, but it does have it problems with framerate and textures, and some very dull quests, also the npcs are quite wooden and look like potato's, and it's not as free as you would like as you hit alot of invisible barriers, you can't even circumnavigate a planet and to many loading screens. It's fun for a while

I’m going to address to playstation fans that are extremely pissed off the game is an xbox exclusive. I understand your frustration enormously. That said to give a 0 on metacritic will not change anything. It is not the fault of the game that this masterpiece is exclusive to Microsoft. It’s Bethesda’s leader fault. Write them emails, flood their mail inbox endlessly, go protest in front of their office, but do not come to put 0 here. You are not happy when xbox fanboy put 0 to God of War, The last of us etc So please do not act like them.

Let’s start with the negative. The biggest flaw in the game is not a flaw of the game in itself. It’s more the fact that the game is exclusive to Microsoft. Let me explain . The xbox controller is a real filth. It is too small, the back buttons ( the equivalent of r2 and l2 on the dualsense ) are too close. My two index fingers almost touch themselves. They are also too much forward and I have to bend my hand up a little to weigh at the bottom of the buttons to have the maximum sensations. The handles on both sides of the controller where you hold the controller are much too short. I feel like I hold a mini board in my hand rather than a controller. As a result, it’s extremely uncomfortable and destroys a lot of the fun. The other big problem is the total lack of feedback. The vibrations are okay for space combat but for ground combat, it’s awful. There is so little feedback that when I shoot with a gun, I feel like I am pressing down into the vacuum. Now, the lack of adaptive triggers makes this problem much worse. I thought it was just haptic feedback and adaptive trigger that made the ps5 controller incomparably superior. Finally it’s not just that it’s the entire design. So it makes the pleasure and the satisfaction of the fight much reduced and it’s a very big problem for me. It still not as bad as a mouse keyboard.

The other big problem is the 30 fps. Although it is more stable than other games ( when you put them in quality mode ) since it is optimized for 30, I miss the 60. Even if you had to release it six months later or invest a little more. It would have been worth it.

    Now the positive

    Graphics:

If we compare it to other games of its time, Starfield is their most beautiful game. We know that Bethesda never makes the most beautiful graphics but this one is the most up to date compared to other AAA. In some places, like rocks textures or robots, it feel next gen graphics. In other places it is more blurry and facial expressions are a bit dated but a gigantic improvement compared to fallout 4 and 76.

    Interaction with NPCs

As usual, Bethesda always pushes the boundaries on this side. We can start discussions with hundreds of NPCs. Ask them questions, inform ourselves, make fun of them, lie to them, threaten them, persuade them etc. They react accordingly and several NPCs will evolve their speech the more we advance in the plot. It’s nice to listen to what they in details. You can spend a whole night just talking loll Our companions will react to our decisions but also to some of our actions. Concerning the NPCs that cannot be engaged in a deep conversation, those who pass here and there the "appearing". Even they will have more to say than what we see in rpg's. Usually in games, passers-by will have 2 or 3 lines, hello how you feel etc But here I met severals who had 10 different lines.

    Rpg:

It’s nice to be able to customize the smallest details of your character’s face even if I haven’t seen any progress on this side. Choosing them a back round with a unique advantage is also a plus. We can modify our weapons in very details and the skill tree is extremely well made with a lot of skills divided into 5 categories and each skill has many levels. More than enough to find your favorite play style and upgrading it. We are free to engage in several companies and work for them, invest our money and build our own path etc

    Exploration

This is again ahead of it's time. You can enter all the buildings, explore hundreds of planet, pick up almost everything you find, sell, buy, build etc. No mans sky has more planets but almost 0 combat and interactions. Those 2 aspects are extremely limited in NMS.

Bethesda pushes the boundaries again with a world of richness and depth. Although the feeling of the fights, the almost total absence of gore are not on point, it remains much better than their previous game. Blood effects are less pixelated, sounds effects and shooting mechanics have been greatly improved since their last games and bugs are less present for a launch version.

I would have a lot more to say but I reached 5000 characters.

The missions or quests are extremely cliche and lack depth or the X factor to get you intrigued. You don't feel "alive" in the world. The open world is there, but there is nothing special to it. The game also does a terrible job of introducing you to itself and its mechanics, instead of slowly being introduced to new mechanics as you learn the game, it is all made available to you to figure out for yourself. And the worst part of all of this is the tedious grind for everything. Everything is made even worse due to the hype and 'prestige' that surrounded this games excessive development and launch. I actually really like this game though its got alot to the game and the game as a whole feels gigantic something I've always wanted from a game was longevity and not to complete a game in under 2 hours and feel like £60 is down the drain and I'm not forced to rush through the game unlike some of the actual reviewers who probably just did the main story missions and based their reviews off of that.

This game seems very familiar to fallout and I've not really played fallout as much as some people but I think what Bethesda does with games is very unique and should be appreciated more.

I like the shooting mechanics in this game for some reason to me it feels better than fallouts shooting mechanics minus not having vats in this game which was very unique to fallout I just felt off with the mechanics in fallout for some reason it felt really sluggish in that game.

The ship building is probably one of the most interesting things I've seen in a game and I've not done much of it but from what I can see it looks very advanced and there's certainly gonna be alot of great ship designs out there.

I love the exploration in this game you can always find something new no matter where you're it seems and the idea of doing research on planets to give you an idea where certain resources are for all the planets is very well thought out and wow its gonna take a very long time time to search for everything.

People moan about frame rate in this game yet here's me playing on my series x having a blast, once your eyes get used to the fps it becomes an afterthought like it doesn't exist plus single player games don't necessarily need to be 60fps or above that in my opinion should be for multiplayer games that demands those kinds of frames to make multiplayer consistent.

My biggest concerns with this game is the map navigation/design it feels really just hard work at times just to figure out certain things and the local map is pretty embarrassing aswell honestly. Bethesda should probably consider adding a different section of all the planets you've discovered from A-Z so it makes it alot easier to revisit those planets.

Also a few times enemies have glitched through walls trying to shoot me though the wall its quite funny at first buy probably something that should be fixed.

If you liked any of the fallout games then I'd most likely say you'd like this game too, for me I didn't really have any expectations for this game considering like I said previously I could never get into space games but from what I've played I know I'm still gonna be on this game for alot longer than I thought I think it's a great game minus the few glitches that do happen and the graphics are good aswell.

Random generated planets after landing, super side missions and huge world, ship customization and nice crew give us truly amazing space game. Graphic is very good, views are insane and created places are stunning, this is huge Fallout in space, fun and very addictive game in Bethesda tropical style. Creation Engine have some problems, but mostly with optimization, with is not bad if you compare other huge games from this year, and flop games on Unreal bug engine. Still on two my PCs game works fine, without one crash, with stable playable FPS on Ultra settings. This is a true AAA game, one of the best in this year. Expand

A poor copy of No Man's Sky. The visual and technical quality of the game is poor and did not perform as expected. There is a recurring trend in the planets that is boring.

I have been playing it non stop since the release and still can't wait to hop back into it anytime I am occupied by something else. The insane scale of this game is something you really need to experience yourself. Even after playing it for over a hundred hours by now, I still keep on experiencing new things. The introduction is actually not as long as people say it is. In my opinion, the vast amount of distractions (as in things to do) is most likely what causes that. My advice is to just keep playing. The game really does get better and better everytime you do. Graphically it is hit or miss. Some things look amazing whilst others could use some more polish. But, I don't mind given how massive the game is. And.. honestly when you play, you barely even notice those things anyway. You will be too busy doing mission, exploring, mining, ship building, base building and a lot more. It is so hard to review this without spoilers since there is so many things going on in the game. All I can say is; believe me when I say that anyone rating this game 7 or lower has most likely not played the game much if at all. Don't let it scare you off. Buy the game, you won't regret it. I am very glad that Bethesda has become part of XBOX and will create such wonderful exclusives, just like the main team of XBOX Game Studios, the best games were, are and will only be on XBOX, this year we will also have Forza Motorsport, and HI has already been released -Fi Rush, now we will enjoy the Star Field, thank you XBOX, thank you Todd!

If you're a fan of Bethesda games and know what to expect, the pros definitely outweigh the cons. If this your first Bethesda game, you should pick it up easily enough and have an average experience. If you're a salty vindictive PlayStation fan or one of those people who are political (left or right) for attention, you're guaranteed to be pissed off about miniscule first world problems you cherry pick from the game.

Gameplay is deep for core Bethesda fans, but shallow for casual players. Your actions and commitment shape your experience from the character menu to the end, whether for good or bad.

Graphical detail and performance is impressive with the exception of some NPCs. One of the major standouts is Neon City, with tonnes of light sources producing a vibrant and dense image that makes me worry that my Xbox is gonna explode. A stick in the mud is Akila city, which can dip into the teens on Series S.

The music is mid with the exception of the main theme.

    The Adoring Fan returns.

Based Todd moments beyond this point.

Bugs are frequent if you know how to break the game, but mostly aren't game breaking as falling out of enemy ships won't kill you if you use the booster pack correctly. There are occasional crashes during loading screens but autosaves will usually keep your progress well in check and occasionally are avoided by being anti semitic when the loading screen stutters (only worked 2/3 times, but haha Meat Loaf reference and every other kind of insult like racist, homophobic and transphobic statements won't work).

The games draws a line between transtrenders (transitioning for attention) and transgenders (transitioning for actual dysphoria) evidenced by NPCs misgendering you if your pronouns don't match your body type. NPCs of the former camp are generally frowned upon and NPCs of the latter camp are treated as normal people and occasionally also from upon the former camp.

The customisation is well beyond previous Bethesda games, even allowing you to build a ship in the shape of a Swastika, male genitalia, CUBE, yellow mini and more. Same goes for outposts.

    Russian mommy gf.

While the player customisation is more free than most Bethesda games, you sadly cannot make failed abortions like in Oblivion.

First of all,the piloting is a major cornerstone of the game and the basic piloting mechanic is only the surface. You can unlock the targetting system and target the specific systems on the enemy vessel and by shooting the engine up,you can board and capture,so far I haven't experienced 2 similar boarding.I even managed to ruin the artificial gravity on 1 vessel and the boarding ended up in a 0 gravity gunfight.
You can even build your own ship from modules and build outposts.
The scope of this game is insane.I think running through the main missions is a mistake, because the sidequest give the game an interesting flavour. For example I heard a distress call and I landed on a planet and ended up helping a group to kill the invading thugs in space.Side quest after sidequest and you notice this game is more similar to the structure of Witcher 3.The side quest stories look handcrafted and there are random events on planets, ending up in interesting outcomes.
I can see myself playing this game until next year.
One other thing I forgot to mention. The graphics can be breathtaking.Standing on the moon and seeing all the stars above is a unique experience.

Pros: -Environments are just ok, but the stories and quests that take place in them are engaging and well written. -The RPG elements are the best of any BGS title to date, where it actually feels like you are making an individual, unique character with a unique skill set that determines how you handle situations. -The ship builder is excellent, and probably one of the most well balanced parts of the game. There are all sorts of modules to install and even some with unique abilities like shielding your cargo to allow for successful smuggling. -The base building is good, but aside from role playing or farming materials and selling components, I'm not sure why I need bases. Still, if you like building bases there is a decent selection here, but it isn't well explained.

-The visuals are out of this world, and if you like taking screenshots this game is made for you. It honestly feels like they spent the most time making this aspect perfect with real time lighting, orbits, fog, reflections, it all looks great, as long as you aren't in one of the major cities. -The performance is consistent on a Series X, not too many bugs and such.

Cons: -The performance. (I know I just said it was a pro, hear me out) I would have preferred to have this game delayed until we got 60 fps on consoles. It is harder to visually track movement at 30, and it brings the game down a bit, even if it is consistently locked at 30. A game like this shouldn't release at 30 fps, period. -The major cities are kind of boring, except for Neon. The textures in the cities are inferior to the textures on the planets and everything feels a bit dull. It seriously almost looks like a different game when you're in the major cities, including the NPCs who for some reason look like ps3 era character models. The only saving grace is the majority of your time is spent outside of the cities, but yeah they don't look great. -The story is a tough one, I am pretty mixed on it. It has mystery and interesting plot points, but the faction stories and side quests majorly overshadow the main story so you enjoy it less knowing you could be doing better content for that random side character you met. -Exploration could be better. I'm not talking about loading into the planet surface, that's fine and people complaining about that are ridiculous. Instead, I mean after you land on a planet, there are a few POI's to check out in the distance, but you have to walk to them, and it takes forever. You can use a jetpack but it doesn't really speed you up much. And to make matters worse, there isn't much reason to explore. You will find cool, hand crafted locations with enemies to fight, absolutely. But it's pretty rare to find anything useful or any special content when randomly exploring. The POI's are just set pieces with basic loot, maybe some legendary gear on harder difficulties if you're lucky. You are better off sticking to quests and organically exploring occasionally, rather than setting aside hours walking around planets. Overall, I recommend it if you like games like Fallout 4 and Skyrim, and I do not recommend it if you only want action. There is a good amount of RPGing here, and it takes some patience.

Game has its flaws but it’s an overall fun experience, engaging story and addicting gameplay, from looting, exploring, building outposts and ships to quests. Dense game with loads of content.

There’s nothing like a new Bethesda game. Im not very far into the main story because been doing a lot of side missions, but so far it’s been great.

I've got nearly 30 hours in the game so far. This game is incredible. I've spent probably 10 hours on a side quest. The quests are so incredibly engrossing. Очень рад за пользователей Xbox и поздравляю Вас с релизом долгожданного эксклюзива! Точно так же, как и рад за уважаемого мной Фила Спенсера! Фил крутой дядя :)

My disappointment of the year. Wasted money and 20 hours of play. A dull grinder with constant loads. There is no plot. There are no graphics. There is no design. Dull game. This is a dull mod for FALLOUT 4. If you want a space adventure, play Mass Effect 1-3.

It definitely has a potential. They need to fix bugs, add the possibility to manually fly between the planets, not just fast travel. They need to improve graphics (I know they still use the old engine, but why would consumer care?). They need to improve the AI

Currently it's a terrible medium game that is not worth 60$. But I believe they can improve it and it will be 8/10

I went through a whole corporate sleezeball questline before I even attempted the main quest. Sabatoging and scheming my way through it. Great game for me. Definitely a bethesda @ss bethesda game. While not perfect with some bugs the potential is definitely there for improvement. Expand

I started out with high expectations for Starfield. The last game they put out was fallout 4 I put hundreds of hours in that game. But it was shallow. Almost every dialog option did the same thing, the gunplay was better than 3 but still mediocre, the writing was poor. I realized the only thing about it I cared about was gathering stuff. I realized the only thing about it I cared about was gathering stuff. I started Starfield with some demands of the game. I wanted great writing, meaningful dialog, CHOICE, AND CONSEQUENCES, improved gunplay, more satisfying places to go to, and explore, better visuals, better animation. Has it lived up to all my expectations? Yes! It even exceeded most of them! There is no such thing as the perfect game. 10 doesn't mean perfect. This game went beyond my expectations. The fact that it has almost no bugs on console is incredible. The series s is handling this game like a beast! Such a beautiful game by far something that halo infinite missed out !! Anyway this game being free on Xbox gamepass ultimate is surely worth it!! Expand

I really liked Starfield, The main story is engaging and well-written, The side quests are also varied and rewarding. The game looks stunning on the Xbox Series X, with detailed graphics and great performance and The sound design is also impressive. The game does not support Arabic language, which is disappointing for Arabic speakers like me.

Overall, Starfield is a great game.

"Starfield on Xbox Series S is a captivating interstellar journey that offers limitless exploration. It skillfully blends a compelling narrative with finely honed dialogues, pulling players into its cosmic embrace. However, it also has a learning curve and some quirks that might dampen the experience.

    **Story and Quests:**

Starfield's narrative is a celestial gem that grips players right from the start. Its dialogues and story are finely crafted and captivating. The soundtrack adds a cosmic symphony, setting the perfect tone for your interstellar adventures.

    **Pros:**

    - **Initial Attraction:** Starfield immerses you deeply in its captivating universe from the start.
    - **Graphical Brilliance:** Starfield's visuals have evolved, reminiscent of the transformation from Oblivion to Skyrim. It retains Bethesda's signature charm, making every moment enchanting.
    - **Scenic Marvel:** Picture being on a world tour of awe-inspiring planets, each one more breathtaking and distinct than the last.
    - **Craft Your Ship:** The ability to customize your spacecraft adds a layer of ownership as you traverse the cosmos.

    **Cons:**

    - **Enemy Monotony:** Combat can sometimes devolve into repetitive exchanges against a limited cast of foes, diminishing the thrill of encounters.
    - **Weapon Woes:** The game's arsenal could use more variety, and combat strategies might benefit from some innovation to keep the excitement alive.
    - **Loading Overdrive:** The frequent loading screens can feel like cosmic speed bumps, occasionally interrupting the fluidity of your journey.
    - **Wonky Hitboxes:** Hitbox issues can leave you scratching your space helmet during combat, even with weapon specialization.
    - **Inventory Woes:** Managing your space gear can become a chore due to the lack of search, filter, and sorting options, leading to a cluttered experience.
    - **Boss Battle Void:** Expectations of epic boss battles might not always align with the cosmic arena, sometimes leaving these encounters feeling less remarkable.
    - **Exploration Loop:** While planets offer diverse biomes, your cosmic journey can sometimes seem like a loop of walking, cave exploration, base visits, and battling the same cosmic critters repeatedly.

In summary, Starfield is a stellar odyssey filled with wonders and hidden stories that sometimes shine brighter than the main narrative. However, amidst the cosmic splendor, a touch of monotony and a few quirks remind us that even in the vastness of space, there's room for improvement.

It is true that you'll find a good number of barren wastelands with little to do other than extracting some resources and take off to more interesting places, but again it really depends on how you want to play. There's so much to do, so many systems and abilities to explore, missions to complete, spaceships to loot, and species to catalogue, that I honestly don't think there's anybody who thinks that exploring every square meter of this universe is the better way to enjoy Starfield.

While it has weak spots and doesn’t push many boundaries, Starfield is still an excellent RPG experience. Bethesda has once again mastered the things it built its reputation on – world building, quest design, and deep customization. However, it’s found new things to excel at too, with exciting combat and a novel implementation of New Game Plus.
