    Not a Saints row game.
    Graphics are bad (fps drops, pop ins and pop out ie cars just disappears on a high end game pc) AI is horrible. Story is cringe. Open world feels like it's a game from ~2010ish , It's dead and there is basically nothing to do (ie no interiors)
    Just get SR2 on steam for about 2 euro. It's much more fun as this pile of manure.

    The good: Character customization.
    Lighting can look really nice in some areas.
    Graphics are a step up from previous titles.

    The bad:
    Horrible writing.
    Outdated gameplay mechanics and mission structure.
    Empty world.
    Bugs / missing features.

    I don't know who this game is for but it should've been scrapped a long time ago.

    Is it Saints Row? Yes. Is it great? no... BUT it is fun. I gotta say the first mission was terrible. After I sped through that, I've had fun with game. If you are looking for an open world sandbox, it's fun. If you don't like or don't want to hear silly dialogues SKIP THEM. It's that simple. Saints has never taken its self too seriously, its a clown clone of GTA. It's hilarious to me whenIs it Saints Row? Yes. Is it great? no... BUT it is fun. I gotta say the first mission was terrible. If I hadn’t known anything about the game beforehand and someone told me it was a remaster of a game from 14 years ago, I would believe them based on design and gameplay.

    Sanitized, bland, characters    The best part of the new Saints Row is the character creator. Second best is the synthwave radio station. Everything else was bland, soulless, open-world-by-numbers corporate game design. If I hadn’t known anything about the game beforehand and someone told me it was a remaster of a game from 14 years ago, I would believe them based on design and gameplay.

    Sanitized, bland, characters with very little humor and the whole thing just felt like a bunch of boomers and older Gen X’ers trying to write what they thought would appeal to millennials and zoomers. Student loans, yadda yadda yadda, late stage capitalism, yadda yadda yadda, evil imperialist corporation… If the Steve Buscemi “how do you do fellow kids” scene/meme were a video game, this would be it.

    Driving and shooting is janky af, the vast majority of missions are just “go here, pick up thing, bring it back”, even the main story missions. The “gang building” is but a pale imitation of the first two SR games. Visually the game looks like something from mid-last gen only with volumetric fog and heat distortion effects for the hell of it -- but there's nothing here that can excuse the game's absolutely awful performance. Unstable frame rates, copious frame drops, stutters, extreme texture pop in, missing textures, the list goes on. And the list of bugs I encountered, many minor, some gamebreaking, would be too long to list.

    26 hours played to reach 100% completion and I only bothered because I didn't have anything better to play at the moment. I cannot recommend this game, especially not to Saints Row fans. This is a dumbed down, forgettable, "politically correct" version of the Saints and it feels like a game the original Saints Row would have absolutely pilloried. Saints Row 4 accurately predicted this with their parody signs reading: "REBOOT IS DEATH". This is, indeed, the death of a once fun franchise. Rest in Peace, Third Street Saints.    … Expand

    I am a huge fan of Saints Row series since SR2 and it's very sad to see what happened to reboot. At it's core this is the same saints row as before, but there is nothing more. And if it is wasn't so bad the story is boring with characters that i don't care about. The game tries to be more realistic, not flashy and silly. Graphics in the game is pretty average, background is always blurryI am a huge fan of Saints Row series since SR2 and it's very sad to see what happened to reboot.     Game has some fun parts, but they are opening only after you spent 10-15 hour's in it. More busineses and activities will give you more fun customization options, abilities, mechanics. Some mission's after half of story are really good and full of SR action, but the first part of the story, before robbing the train, is painfully boring.    … Expand

    First off, to be fair, the customisation is OK and the chaos factor is present at times. However - their are some anomalous reviews here praising this game to artificially bump the score to ludicrous 10. Its a pretty poor game though; the characters are bland, the story trite and the gameplay is dull. How to kill a franchise.

    3. story, in the story there are other WAY better characters however none ever really become members of your gang, it's depressing that these more interesting characters who have better reasons for making a gang aren't the main characters. the story is also EXTREMLY short i finished it and most side missions in around 4-5 hours.

    I REALLY wanted to enjoy this game for some of the pretty good gameplay and the awesome additions (SAINTS KEYBLADE ANYONE???) but it was just way too cringe and was so horribly bad i sincerely hope the Devs see this and do something to fix it for the next game,

    I felt the need to create a metacritic account for this. I advise you to not buy this game. It's full of bugs, soulless and lazy. Also the gameplay and visuals are outdated. I was really excited for a new Saints Row game, but this one is even worse then Agents of Mayhem. It's a sad end for a series I once loved. Disappointing.

    This game its just a piece of **** The graphics is a bit better than infamous 2 on ps 3, gameplay and shooting is from xbox 360 era as well. BTW, the last boss is against us just beacuse he wants to be with our friends, just imagine how bad this game is.

I remember they said the amount of customization was insane, which it wasn't. You no longer buy shops.     The key and very main issue... it isn't funny. They have removed the fun wackiness and kept some weird form of slapstick wackiness from the mid 90s American family friendly tv shows (ones were laughter can be heard as something unfunny happens).

    As for bugs, I haven't really noticed any on the Xbox Series X.

    The core game seems to be pretty solid (as foundation goes), but it feels massively under utilised and the game just feels flat and uninspired.

    For an AAA release this is just a poor release, this is sort of what I'd expect from a small studio.
    Last week I finished playing Saints Row 3 remastered (fantastic and probably the peak of saints row) and this has massively gone in the wrong direction vs that game.    … Expand

    the physics are terrible, the graphics are that of early last gen at best, the story is terrible, the cringe gen z characters are awful, the car physics are god awful and your car blows up upside down like gta san andreas.

    The positives are the car damage models are really good, the city has potential, the desert has potential, and the soundtrack is pretty good. but that doesnt fix everything wrong with it.

    volition had a huge chance to bring back a classic franchise, compete with gtao/gtav honestly and put R* in competition mode, but they squandered everything so now R* will continue to milk gtav and probably make gta6 average at best.

    review embargoes should be illegal because of crap like this, this game should be criminal at best.

It's also been very clear since the reveal trailer that this game is made for younger kids of this generation, it's obvious Volition and Deep Silver don't care about old SR fans. They would rather pander to kids who have never played a Saints Row game in their life than the actual long time fans. Volition had a great opportunity here to capitalize on the open world, third person shooter market with the absence of Rockstar over the past 9 years, but they would rather dumb down their games so that 13 year olds who enjoy Fortnite can hop on this game and have fun. We told them from the start, "this is not what we want" "this looks terrible" "bring back the old saints" and all they could do is call us haters, well as it turns out the fans and consumers of the product were right yet again. I hope that Volition & Deep Silver will one day realize that they messed up bad with this game and the 3 before it just because they outright refuse to listen to their fans. I would like to see them publicly apologize for this poor excuse of a "Saints Row" game, but that will never happen, they will never admit that they were wrong, even if this was the final nail in the coffin for their already downward spiraling company. This is not Saints Row it only has the name because they knew it would sell decent numbers and make them some money. If you are a true fan of Saints Row, save your money.     This game has some fun bugs, but unfortunately it has bugs that break the experience within the game, it has a bad story with a cringe dialogue and the city sometimes feels empty. It seems to me that this is a game that did not live up to its predecessors, I prefer to return to Saints Row 2 and The Third

My first play-through was with a cute Asian chick and my 2nd play-through is with the latest Joker from the movie. I enjoy the city and surrounding area, although the map was smaller than expected. I enjoyed the characters in the game although the story was paper thin and uninspiring. The banter in the game seemed somewhat toned down, yet I still found it satisfying. Story missions were good, side missions tended to be repetitive although a couple standouts are the LARP and the Most Wanted missions as they were a hoot.

    Issues. Randomly wonky GPS which once had me driving in circles. Vehicle pop-in when driving faster. Some cut scenes had lip sync issues and sometimes failed to load at all. One mission would not end which required a reload. I also do no like that the main story is gated behind side missions which tend to be repetitive and boring. At least the side missions were easier than they were on SR3, although I played on the 2nd to easiest difficulty setting. I also did not like that firearm special abilities are gated behind preforming feats to unlock them. One was kill 10 enemies with your last clip. After 20+ hours I had only killed 9. I just was not willing to go out of my way to do what felt like busy work. Would have preferred to pay money for the unlock like in SR3.

    Issues aside, all in all I really enjoyed the game. But perhaps that was because my expectations were not very high. Give the game a 7 now and a 8+ after it is patched up.    … Expand

    Not as bad as I thought it would be, 4k resolution is not a practical choice. It's not an entirety perfect game but it's fun. In my book, if it's fun, it's a 10.

A few bugs here and there on series x but nothing too bad or game breaking in my time with it. Noi a perfect game by any means but definitely recommend.     I am really baffled on the universal hate on this game. It is a good open world game with a ton of fun stuff to do. If you like GTA style open world games, you will love it. I did not find it repetitive at all. The only downside is that the game crashes a lot, but hopefully this will be fixed in a patch. Just play the game yourself before you judge it so harshly.

Mechanic, Nerd, Crazy One, and then your character who can literally be whatever you make them. Vehicle customization is better than ever. Guns are alright but are also fully customizable which makes up for the variety. The city/map is absolutely gorgeous, the attention to detail and cultural influences are spot on. In no way does the city feel lifeless. A lot of returning radio stations, great soundtrack when causing chaos.

    All in all, it's a good game and a great saints row. Don't get up with what is considered woke or generational and just enjoy the mayhem and comedy.    … Expand

    The city is amazing. So much detail, cool folk art, interesting architecture. Just roaming the streets is fun. Its easy to miss all those details though, because driving is a blast too. You don't even need to slow for corners once you get the hang of drifting.

    There are bugs but not that many. I put at least 60 hours into the game and it only crashed a handful of times. The story is    The city is amazing.     The shooting mechanics are the games only big flaw. But there's always auto-aim, or adjusting the settings to making aiming easier.

    Fun, simple, and mindless open world game. Think mercenaries in 2022. Haven’t had any crashes on series x. Playing in the 1440 60FPS mode. Cheesy dialog and cheesy combat however it’s pretty nice to take a break from all the serious games and way better than some Ubisoft open world.

    Rented from gamefly. Thank God. What a mess this game is. Horrible bugs, fps issues, horrible controls. I was really disappointed how this game came out. Needed delayed for ATLEAST 6 MONTHS. Also looks terrible on series x. EVERYTHING about this game is bad!!!! Maybe 3 to 4 major patches will make it playable.

Missions are very repetitive and you don't need any abilities or skills to beat the main game so, what's the point of using them?     Saints Row's story is a very unique one. I liked the characters, Santo Ileso is a very pretty territory but it's too bad it's mostly deserted. The game, itself, is a mix of the first four Saints Row titles. Is serious and goofy at the same time. At the time of writing, I did not encounter any game breaking bugs nor crashes. I recommend it.

The missions are fun to do, there is a lot of side quests, a lot of customisation (I would of love to custom the friends tho). However, I have to mention the successive frame drops (I played on the xbox series s). Too bad the game doesn't have the option to play at 60 fps on consoles, it would help a lot. I had to activate the option to fix the 30 fps and deactivate the motion blur, to be minimally playable.… Expand

    Saints Row is a franchise that has its best days behind it. Consequently, the latest iteration is dull, dated, and lacking oomph. The open world is great, as are the side hustles. However, this doesn't make up for its many shortcomings. Fans of the franchise may overlook the tedium, but I could not.

    I am extremely sad at this reboot of Saints Row, while I wasn’t a huge fan of the absolute bonkers nature of the 4th entry, even if I did love the 3rd. With this reboot I feel like Volition missed a huge opportunity evolve this series for a new generation, not just of consoles but for gamers. As it stands, this game comes off just feeling like its clinging to the tone and design choices from the 360; even the graphics in this reboot from 2022 feel dated and frankly Johnny Gat deserves better.

    Saints Row is not the reboot the series needed, significantly limiting the levels of insanity and comedy that are the hallmark of the series, while maintaining a gameplay that is now dated and in need of a serious makeover. This made it a decent but soulless title, definitely forgettable in today's landscape. If you're looking for a not-too-demanding open world it can still wring a few laughs out of you, but at the moment Saints Row smacks too much of a wasted opportunity. The series has great potential, but it needs a real leap forward if it is to have a future.
