RE4 Remake is without a doubt one of the best remakes ever made if not the best, and the fact that it remained so loyal to the core gameplay that was designed almost two decades ago shows what a marvelous job Capcom did back in 2005, and proves that if something is done proper, it can last forever.

Resident Evil 4 is as impressive success for tow main reasons: it's the same game we enjoyed almost 20 years ago, with minor changes to make the experience perfectly enjoyable. Capcom shows us why Resident Evil 4 was, is and always be one of the biggest successes in gaming history and horror genre.

This is a wonderful game: a beautiful, tense, camp, gory summation of everything that is so good about Resident Evil. Wherever you find yourself, whether rose garden or torture dungeon, it is alive with intimate detail, from the sounds of distant screams and chants to the sight of a grizzly murder scene or a beautiful vase. It is resplendent, delicious and decadent, like an incredibly rich banquet served amid the detritus of some horrible battle. Believe me, you will feast on it.

What Capcom has done is less of a re-imagining and more a celebratory culmination of all the series' ideas. Resident Evil 4 is an absolute blast, retaining all its bombastic and over-the-top ideas while injecting some more modern horror and quality-of-life changes. It's a must for any Resident Evil fan, and if you’re new to the series, what a great place to start!

The Resident Evil 4 remake is a tighter, more engaging version of the 2005 original. On the surface, the game still resembles its original form much more than something like Final Fantasy 7 Remake or even 2019’s re-imagination of Resident Evil 2. But what we’ve got with Resident Evil 4 is a kind of remake we haven’t seen from Capcom in quite some time.

Resident Evil 4 translates a game already revered into an absolute masterpiece. The tension is heightened and the combat is stronger than ever, all while still maintaining the corny dialogue and humour that the original game was known for. While there are a few minor aspects missing, Resident Evil 4 is a strong example of what any remake should be and is well worth your time.

Resident Evil 4 Remake is a resounding success, taking the 2005 survival horror classic and revamping, reworking and retooling it into a most modern and thrilling action extravaganza. You can feel the care and attention to detail in every aspect of how Capcom has handled this remake. Combat has been improved and expanded without destroying the all-important feel of how Leon does battle, iconic boss fights and locations look and feel better than ever and carefully considered additions to areas allow for more exploration between confrontations without ruining the tight and taut flow of the adventure. It all looks and sounds incredible, performs perfectly and makes for a glorious return to the top for an all-time action great. Welcome back, stranger.

Capcom demonstrates its mastery with the franchise with a title simply second to none in fun. This remake offers maximum respect for everything we liked about the original while leaving us fascinated with its renewed artistic design.

The top tier remakes continue to come from Capcom, with Resident Evil 4 taking a beloved classic and modernising it in all the right ways. A couple of small niggles aside, this will go down as one of the greatest games this year, if not this generation.

Resident Evil 4 Remake is an absolute delight. Veterans of the original will love the changes and newcomers can now appreciate just how good this game actually is. Capcom continues the trend of keeping the series fresh in our minds. I cannot wait for the next new entry as well as what remake they do next. Almost guaranteed we will see RE5 next, but Capcom please listen to your fans and give us that Code Veronica remake we so rightly desire. Regardless, fans of the series are eating so good right now.

Small technicalities aside, Resident Evil 4 on Xbox Series X|S is a wonderfully recreated thrill ride from start to finish. Capcom have struck a perfect balance that should keep both veteran players and newbies happy.

Dressed up for the present, old strengths preserved, a perfectly executed balance of trash and elegant horror shooter. Resident Evil 4 is still the most straight-up fun outing in the series.

Capcom continues to rock the ship with its selection of “Remakes”. Resident Evil 4 Remake may have seemed like a game that didn't need such a thing, until it was time to play it.

Resident Evil 4 (2023) is a phenomenal remake of a fantastic game. With a twist on the excellent plot and some incredible new mechanics, this is great for newcomers and veterans alike. If you haven't experienced this dank and grim world, you are in for a treat. However, if this isn't your first rodeo, you'll adore the additional elements and the gritty and uncomfortable story.

Resident Evil 4 is a true technical marvel on Xbox Series X, with utterly stunning visuals and wonderful ray-tracing implementations. While the game is a bit thin in the "survival horror" department, Resident Evil 4 is an absolutely spectacular action horror game with varied and satisfying combat, memorable characters, and a meaty amount of content.

A remake full of changes and adjustments that stays true to the spirit of the original, Resident Evil 4 can't be seen as anything but a complete success. Some may malign what's missing, but the areas that have been added or expanded more than make up for what's been taken out. This is brilliant stuff.

"Resident Evil 4 is brilliant" is a statement that rings as true today as it did almost 20 years ago, with Capcom turning in yet another fantastic remake that revives and, to a degree, reinvents a classic for a new generation. Fans familiar with the original will likely appreciate a lot of the tweaks and improvements (even if they may lament a few of the changes, based on personal preference), while newcomers get to experience a stunning modern version of an all-time classic. What are you waiting for? It's game time!

No doubt: Resident Evil 4 Remake is simply an excellent horror action game and Capcom proves, for the umpteenth time, its ability to produce a controlled adventure with an exemplary finish. The basics of the original game couldn't be more solid, but the firm has been able to modernize the whole thing to make the adventure more intense, deeper in its game systems and even more thrilling. Was a remake necessary? Maybe not, but impossible to spit on this impressive version, which knows how to honor the original material as well as to bring it a rejuvenation that is ultimately very relevant. Finally, if we have a mad desire to finish Resident Evil 4 as soon as possible, it is to start it again immediately.

After I completed the game, I couldn’t wait to start it over again, and I never thought that with any of the previous action-oriented RE titles. Whether you’re a fan of the original or tend to gravitate towards the non-action-oriented games in the series, I think Resident Evil 4 Remake is well worth your time.

At the end of the day, Resident Evil 4 Remake is a really good return of a classic. It looks better, plays better (especially since Leon can move while he aims and shoots now), and features some appreciated changes. However, it still feels somewhat dated, and doesn’t feel as polished as the Dead Space Remake that came before it. I also question some of the developers’ decisions that made it harder/cheaper and more frustrating early on.

As a remake, I think Resident Evil 4 Remake kind of falls flat. As a game with shiny new visuals, a more cohesive on-brand story and a darker tone, that also doesn’t change much of what made it brilliant in the first place… well that’s the thing, it’s awesome. How you take that will fall directly into the columns of whether you wanted fundamental change, a basic Remaster (which is what I think this ultimately is), or something entirely new. For the newcomers, you’ll love this and it is an absolute buy. BUT. If you’re into the root of all things; how things started; what came before; genesis and that type of thing, I honestly think I’d recommend giving one of any number of the original re-releases or remasters a go. And if you don't first, and I get that because ‘next-gen’ and all, do yourself a favour and go and play the OG immediately after.

The final grade is actually a summary of different perspectives on the game, and I'll use a relatively fresh comparison to help. I consider Resident Evil 4 to be a better game than Dead Space, but that applies to the originals. The new Dead Space is actually a better remake than the new Resident Evil 4. Additionally, it's hard to shake off the feeling that there's missing content in the game. It's as if Capcom didn't learn from the criticism they received with the Resident Evil 3 remake. Despite all that, it's still a very high-quality survival horror.

Not the best of Capcom's remakes, but a competent one.

The Resident Evil 4 remake is a darker, more intense and safely faithful remake of one of the greatest games of all time. It avoids the missteps of the RE3 remake by staying very true to its source material – so close that it's reluctant to make improvements for fear of changing too much.

Resident Evil 4 lacks a little bit of care and polish to deliver as a modern remake as it is, both visually and gameplay-wise. I enjoyed its old-school fun and most of the changes are for the better, but it breaks its own rules and just isn't optimised as of yet. Fortunately, most of its issues can be fixed.

It is difficult to not be blinded by nostalgia, especially when a game has been part of the ongoing zeitgeist of the franchise for nearly 20 years. Resident Evil 4 Remake is, by intention, an unfaithful love letter. The remake has changed certain story beats, altered movement, overhauled combat and revised the visuals. Those jumping in for the first time in 2023 may not understand the hype surrounding this particular entry in the series, but, remember that a lot of modern games owe their DNA to Resident Evil 4, even if they have perfected it since.

When I go back and replay Resident Evil 4 again one day in the not-too-distant future, I think it will be this new version that I’ll return to instead of the original. And I truly can’t think of higher praise to lay upon the remake than that.
  2. Mar 19, 2023
With this, Capcom presents its best do-over yet. Never has the term “remake” been better suited for describing what is Resident Evil 4. The story benefits from a reorchestration that erases the narrative defects of the original work. Offering a modern gameplay without forgetting its original DNA, the title manages to keep the right balance between action and survival horror. If Capcom's wizards manage to do the same magic trick with the two subsequent episodes shunned by purists of the license, all will be forgiven.

RE4 with worse controls and lame mechanics from re3. Yeah that's right, it actually controls WORSE than a game from 2005. Also knifeRE4 with worse controls and lame mechanics from re3. Yeah that's right, it actually controls WORSE than a game from 2005. Also knife durability? What is this breath of the wild? I also didn't care for the tacked on crafting mechanics either, just felt like unnecessary busywork. The death scenes have also been heavily dialed back in how violent they are, that means no chainsaw decapitation which is just lame. I hated that they went with a super serious vibe but still tried to put the one liners in, they basically wanted to have their cake and eat it too in regards to the tone. Full Review »

Terrible art style, terrible characters models, bad graphics.

Remember when Capcom used to have new games with massive graphics improvement? From RE2 to RE3 in the 90s, to 5 years later RE4 a game that was on a league of its own when it comes to RE games graphics and looked better than most games in its generation, and then doing it again with RE5 who looked better in every area than the RE games that came before. Now Capcom is trash when it comes to that, there's barely any difference from RE2 to RE4 remake, on top of that these new games have terrible art style like I said which makes things even worse, you can barely see anything in certain locations, and of course its because Capcom doesn't want us to look at the terrible RE Engine textures, extremely lazy.

Leon and Ada are the same trash models from RE2. Original RE4 and RE6 Leon and Ada models are SO MUCH better. Remember when Capcom kept making new models for every new RE game but no one cared because they were all amazing? It's a good thing to have the same models returning but only when they are good, the thing is that Leon and Ada from RE2 are trash. Luis and Wesker models are trash too. They took everything that made those characters cool.

The voice of acting of those characters are also terrible. RE voice acting was great in the late 2000s, back when every character looked and sounded memorable. What happened? We know using the same things again isn't a issue for Capcom, as they have been using many of the assets they created for RE7 in every single new RE game, and that's why the new RE games look so cheap. So why not use the same voice actors from the past? Those cheap **** are trying to save as much money as possible, no wonder most of the new RE games are mostly just a copy and paste. Same trash art style for every single new RE game, same trash character models, same assets for 4 games in a row. But they can't bring back the voices that made those characters popular, no, that's too much for them. Maybe they are trying to save money with that too, and it's less expensive to bring new people to do the voice acting, who knows.

But of course dudes are giving 10 to this trash, because they don't understand gaming. This is just the new generation, the same dogs who think Fortnite is good, they don't know when a game is actually good because they haven't played any.

Gun sounds are terrible. Amount of cut content are terrible. Leon movement animations are terrible.

Leon in the original was extremely stylish like Dante, literally every single animation of Leon was created to make him as stylish and cool as possible, which suited his personality very well. Now Leon personality is changed to worse, and theres literally 0 stylish things about him, even the spinning kick looks dumb as **** but his movement is just the worst.

This game is going to be hyped for about 2 months and then everyone is going to forget about it, it will never be a classic that people kept playing for 20 years like the original.
