The cash grab transactions are REALLY pricey and ripoffs beside. All the non-grab armor and weapon styles are ugly, dirty and ragged looking. HOR$E ARMOR!$!$$$$. If you're a sorcerer, you're going to be running frost nova, flame shield, and ice armor on any sorceress build. There are only three endgame viable builds for the sorceress also: arc lash, ice shards, and fire wall. Forget using frozen orb, fire ball, charged bolts, chain lightning, or blizzard. They are just too weak. The enchantment system on the sorceress is just wildly unbalanced also. You'll be running fire bolt just to burn things so that you do more damage to them on any build. Some other big issues are the fact that monster scaling feels bad, item level requirements constantly increase as you level, and the quality of life is horrid. Monsters scaling makes it so that you never really feel powerful. The monsters are always increasing in difficulty as you level. It makes it so that you can play with friends of all levels, but it comes at a big cost. You'll see your level 10 friends killing things faster than you. You also lose out on the sense of power progression that you get from other ARPGs. Item level requirements that constantly increase feel terrible. The game basically has three tiers of items. Sacred and ancestral items come with set level requirements, but then they continue to scale up to your level when dropped. This feels bad as items I am finding now all have a level 85 requirement on them even though they are not more powerful than items I was finding at level 60. The item level requirement scaling makes trading rares terrible, gearing alt characters almost impossible, and it ruins being able to give friends rare items that would be good for them. My other big issue with the game is the lack of quality of life. It feels like they just rushed the game out after the campaign was polished and they threw in some endgame activities. The game lacks basic features like being able to search in your stash and having a place to store your gems. It also lacks social features like being able to talk in a global channel or being able to queue up for group activities. There is no loot filter either, so finding upgrades at higher levels becomes extremely tedious. You also have to run to nightmare dungeons, but a fix for that is supposedly coming within a few weeks. Overall, Diablo 4 just isn't worth the money right now. The campaign is okay, but ARPGs are known for their replayability at endgame. Diablo 4 completely misses the mark in this area due to the reasons above. I would recommend that you wait to purchase this game for probably a year or so. They may address some of the bigger issues by then. Expand

Basically a prettier version of Diablo 3, content wise just replace rifts with dungeons and you have Diablo 4. Combat is slow, mob density is low, movement is clunky, and very little build diversity. Hopefully seasons bring in some game changes and content but as of right now I was bored in less than a week.

It seems like someone just wanted this game shipped with little thought on what people will do after story. Resistances have no place in the game as they have been made worthless for some reason, you simply build for damage and armor. I love ARPG's but i'm already bored of this game. Does it have the potential to be a lot better with future seasons/content patches, yes it does but my rating is on its current state, not its potential. Expand

All mechanics are already known from other games. Nothing innovative here. I had fun playing this game until Level 60-70. But after that it gets boring. The progression system is similar to the Diablo 3 system where you just do Greater Rifts to level up your gems and get paragon points. The game in its actual state does have a lot of potential because of its nice combatsystem and graphics. If blizzard would change the endgamesystem similar to poe and do innovative stuff like last epoch, this game and its community would love it. Also in its actual state there are a lot of technical teething problems. - Barricades in a open world game which hinders players to ride through it.
    - low mobdensity
    - backtracking affixes in nightmaredungeons
    - missing endgame bosses and an interesting progression system
    - multiple missing QOL features such as geminventory, clunky horseriding turbo, less stashtabs, missing overlay map, no trading, dealers in towns are far away from each other, traveltimes are too high for nightmaredungeons.

All in all this game has a good base but with a lot of air upward.

I have to share that I can't recommend this game at this time. I liked the story (wasn't terrible) and most the fun i had was like the old school d2 feel of playing with the builds/skills/abilities, the almost same nuance of the feeling of exploring something new and that seemed to all just go away the more I played as the lack of everything that finally was fixed in the prior series just seemed to be completely omitted or reduced significantly in this version. The highlights (well low lights in this case):
-gear rewards for ancestral dungeons is randomized to lower rated gear
-purveyor gear stated as a specific tier also includes pool of lower rated gear
-side quests you missed are not listed anywhere (D3 at least said do this bounty quest in a specific area of a region)
-mounts seem horrifically useless and always just run into non visible blocks that just stop you or
    -random dismounts
-i honestly think all the math isn't adding up as well for resists and damages but i can't be certain because there isn't clear way to see what values you're pulling as you can't look at your stats while playing
-i'm getting just rubber banding issues at certain times and the constant hotfixes is causing disconnects
-there doesn't seem to be any focus on anything that helps players in the long run while the studio just seems to put their attention on blocking anything that helps players (make elites spread out, make elites spawn less, make players get less XP, make sure to not fix any of the other major issues)
-early game wasn't as expensive respecing but the more changes they keep making, the more folks are trying to find builds that will help and update gear that will help and it's all for naught because it'll get nerfed again or you're too broke to fully get to the point you're trying to reach
-accessibility options are very minimal and don't really assist in anything outside the same ol' standard template of "just give 'em basic stuff so we can say we tried".
-if you're gonna make this part Diablo Immortal, least put in the LFG for dungeons. That I dug and would help with folks who are on solo and just wanna clear an area faster. Currently no real way to find a group to do things like the old school battle net lobby and i think it's because the crossplay that lot of console players don't really chat from the console

This feels like Diablo Immortal slapped on Diablo 3 very poorly with a promise of D2 feeling captured but it's like a D2 Lite Spritzer. The team seemed to have forgotten all the things they endured to make D3 better and it had a rocky start. I can't even agree with some of these folks that say it's more Diablo 3 - It seems pre D3 to me in the sense of the AH fiasco all over again. I'm slightly hopeful that Blizz will release something that they will be more vocal, they'll be more active and share why some of the choices they made were implemented that worked well in the previous iterations and that like the rough start of D3, they're gonna do what they can to make it right.

It wouldn't be fair to just say the bad things about this game so:
-i liked the story, it's a bit slow paced and some moments are definitely "why?!?1" but it's good for what they're trying to do with this live service and chapters approach
-it does look pretty, those people saying it's a prettier D2/D3; that's not a negative and they should highlight that
-i had fun with the exploring and seeing items dropped very early so again, fun for the first few days; when was the last time you were excited for a yellow item to drop?
    -all the easter eggs
    -trash titles

I did see Devs released an update as i completed this and will definitely update this to better if they follow what they shared on the video
    https://youtu.be/3PO9OY7AIs4?t=1715
-this is more personal but 25-28 bucks for a costume seems absurd, kudos to those that don't care about that and that's not included in my negative outlook for this game but it def is only for looks - no pay to win junk in the store as some of these other folks wrote.

Blizzard still survives because of their world famous name, and many good titles in earlier days, but its easy to see, that those people are long gone, and now they just to hire cheap developers, to pump out as many mid-range games as possible, with a heavy pricetag. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I dunno I’m finding it really unbalanced, demolishing elite mobs in a instant then it takes to kill one marauder. Then it’s just way to easy the higher lvl you are the easier it get. When you about lvl 55 on wt 3 it becomes to numbly boring and easily, grinding till lvl 60 to do the next wt dungeon was a true test of perseverance. Yeah the first few lvl on wt 4 are challenging like I said it gets earlier as you lvl up and you don’t even feel like ya characters got any more powerful or evolved. My fights look and feel exactly the same on wt4 lvl 68 as it did when lvl 20 on wt 2 and I would say wt 2 was more challenging, I met the butcher more often and had crap gear. I think its easily solvable tho we need areas of the map that are all ways 2 or 3 lvls above I would make them hell stronghold permanent, introduce heavenly stronghold and let us choose who to fight for hell, heaven or nephalem, man when I played the campaign I wanted to join Lilith and smoke Inarius and Mephisto by the end. Next hell tides need way more mobs and boss fights, i would also have a thing where in the last 10 min we have to push the hoard of Hell back, if players fail this it reduce the drop rates until areas have been cleared of x amount of enemy’s. The campaign is also not up to standard, starts of really good but after the first act it flat lines 2 good cut scenes, the first is the resurrection of Lilith at the start and then some parts of Lilith and co walking though Hell. I know lots of ppl don’t like the aesthetics of D3 but just go watch the cut scene where Diablo open the doors of heaven to Lilith opening the doors to Hell. She just squeezes a rock and doors open to nothing and the gates to hell where on every loading screen it was very anticlimactic. The entire way though the campaign she like 5 steps a head of you and at the end you just get teleported to the right location just before her to foil her plans and your own. It end with a hero not the hero travelling around with a soulstone with a prime evil in it again, that what happen to D2 hero at the start of D3, just this time it’s Mephisto in the soulstone instead of Diablo. The skill tree is far too complex resulting in the need to create very specific builds. If you don't do your research, create a spreadsheet, consult NASA and cross-reference your astrological chart you won't have the right points in the right places and you'll just die a lot. Paragon won't help either. Apparently the demons have a better paragon board than I do since they are *still* killing me easily.

But surely you can compensate for that with gear right? No. The gear is awful. I haven't swapped out anything in about 10 levels. It just isn't worth it. Remember when you'd get excited about finding something rare? Or at that classic *ting* sound of something hitting the floor warning you to pay attention and get ready because this thing right here is going to be awesome? You couldn't wait to check the stats. That's gone. I kill a Boss, collect the loot, go do five other things, then check the stats of the new stuff when I go to town. Why bother getting excited when I'm just going to salvage it anyway because it has half the stats of my current stuff? I used to chase treasure goblins down. Now I don't bother with them. They don't have anything. And you can't buy anything. The shops have four items, crazy expensive, that change every hour, that also have lower stats.

Also, this requirement to be online is frustrating. I have not had any server issues. I get on right away. I have always been a solo Diablo player. I always will be. I don't want to see other people in my game let alone watch them take my gold after my kill which has happened several times now. I have never played a season and have no interest in doing so.

It just doesn't feel like Diablo anymore.

Massively disappointed by the newest diablo release. No incentives to continue playing as soon as you finish the rather uninspired campaign. The biggest problem is class balance, with Necromancer in particular being by far and away the worst. The class as a whole was completely destroyed after the open/closed betas and so far have only received small buffs to minions. They lack survivability and have zero movement. They are underpowered in single target boss fights, and don't even get me started on PVP. While it's not uncommon to see unkillable Barbs, Druids, Sorcerers pumping out massive AOE and single target damage. Necromancer struggles at both. I was really hopeful that I would spend hundreds if not thousands of hours with this game over the next few years. But the state Necromancer has launched in has destroyed all the hype I had for this game. Now I'm wondering if I'll even manage to stick around for the first season let alone the first expansion.
I leveled up a Barb and Rogue just to compare and confirm my suspicions and they were absolutely confirmed. Those characters were easily able to complete content my Necromancer struggled on and in the case of The Butcher my Necromancer was the only one to die. Bottom line it's a great game if you don't want to main Necromancer. However Necromancer is so bad and feels so lackluster in so many area I find myself wondering how much longer I really want to play. There is hope on the horizon though with Path of Exile 2 not to far off in the future. Maybe they'll give me the class fantasy Diablo 4 can't or won't.

The way the game has been handled by blizzard since the release has been messy at best. Continuous nerfs to various abilities and farming methods was very frustrating, though some things legitimately needed to be hotfixed, but the latest patch not fixing ANY of the numerous core issues plaguing the game and instead instating even more nerfs is extremely confusing.

Who ever is making decisions about patch priorities should be reassessed. We (mostly) tend to play video games to have fun and the long list of hotfixes and this recent patch have active removed this element from the game. Why would anyone play something that is no longer fun?

Server Lag is horrible. There is a known memory leak that still remains unfixed that causes frequent game crashes. The effectiveness of many builds were destroyed and there is no compensation for all the players that now have to reassess and rebuild their characters since the issue of respeccing/ cost is still unaddressed.

There is much more that can be discussed but it seems to fall on deaf ears with blizzard.

TLDR; I do not recommend this game in its current state. The ratio of enjoyment to frustration is too high.

+Very disappointed with this last patch, it seems they made everyone more squishy, more likely to be 1 shot, made leveling slower, made skills less effective, nerfed stats like vulnerable, critical strike, overpower, ect.
+seems like we are being rewarded less since the patch on things like helltide and dungeons. + kinda disappointed about how many legendary items there are for the game, I remember that was one of the goals to find the legendary items that were useful or at least valuable. I don't mention this to give weight to my perception, I mention this to give weight to my perception of the steady decline in quality and forks-given of Blizzard products.
I waited a decade for Diablo 3, did the midnight screening, took 3 days off work to play. Yes the launch was a cluster, and the story felt as retread as the new Star Trek movies, but it was fun, it was smooth, and it was a good finished product. Care went into the art direction, gameplay, sound and music, and the story.
I can't say any of that for this raging dumpster fire called Diablo $4. ("Diablo for Dollars", I like that, will probably use again)
Server crashes and server burps are annoying, yes. Blizzard cookie cutter style builds are annoying. Blizzard nerfbats are utterly stupid. The company is so focused on the "long game" they have forgotten how to make an enjoyable and smooth experience anymore.
The drama around "overpowered builds" is the biggest waste of time I have seen to date, because at the rate gamers are uninstalling the game, no one is going to be around to care.
When I say the "Blizzard polish" is lacking, what I meant to say is it is nonexistent. Some of sloppiest work I have seen, ever. Voice acting that doesn't match script. Some Enya-esque musical leprosy while fighting Uber Lilith. Horses are stagger and burp every, single, time, you, mount, up. Struggles to find stats that make the game even remotely fun to play, then grinding for hours to find no gear with stats you can use; and then not getting anything useful from salvaging your gear. A plot that barely pays lip service to perhaps the greatest corrupted love story in the Blizzard portfolio, and we're left with a pissy former archangel being petulant with the daughter of a Prime Evil and no meaningful insight or exposition as to what really happened, or what happened between them.
Speaking of lack, I know the Blizzard Original Thought Well ran dry a long time ago (just look at the decline in WoW expansions), but did you have to crib from Path of Exile, Grim Dawn, and Lost Ark?
There's an old saying: "to steal from one is plagiarism, to steal from many is research". What do you call it when you steal from many and manage to not be nearly as engaging or good as any of them? |
Frankly, as soon as I saw this, my first thought was, huh, so this is what Blizzard is going to try to use as a test bed for World of Warcraft 2. Then I thought, huh, this will be their last product before the Microsoft acquisition goes through. Maybe Microsoft can instill some actual pride in the work here, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
If you're a fanboy who wants to grind for days to be in the top .001%, this is the game for you.
If you want to play something casually, or enjoy the time you do have to put into gaming, go take a look at the Steam Summer Sale and support a studio that isn't coasting on its former glory.

But how, after several months of testing, can there still be a game breaking bug in the capstone dungeon to allow the player to progress to past veteran tier? Of the 10 attempts at this dungeon before contemplating throwing the console and controller out the window, my first 4 saw the boss de-spawn as he hit the last quarter of health bar, no way to exit the instance besides disconnecting from the server and relaunching the game.

The remaining attempts saw me make it to the boss 5 out of 6 times, only to just flat out be disconnected after a 5 second freeze.

Again, if this were checkpointed like all the other campaign quests then this wouldn't be as much of an issue. However, you need to restart the entire instance, along with the pre-boss each time, and it is vital to complete to progress the game. Abysmal design from Blizz here, but I don't know why the hell I expected any different, its becoming a track record for them.

I'm still finding rare items more powerful than unique items, and since i can't progress my world tier I guess I'll continue to do so... Deep customisation? Crunchy visceral combat that you can feel? I can't believe I bought into all that nonsense. Game launches without set items. Quite frankly I don't expect to pay £70 for a game to still be beta testing it post release. I have no idea why this trend of releasing broken games that are required to be constantly online, yet consistently fail to do so, has taken off in recent years, but if it continues in this fashion then its the beginning of the end for gaming.

I cannot recommend this game in its current state and have no intentions of buying any Blizz games at launch again, ever.

Not worth $70-100 but certainly worth it if you can get it on sale.

I'd take 7 more points off for having the most absurdly insultingly expensive cosmetic shop I've seen in a non-F2P title, but at this point that garbage is par for the course.

**After another 15 hours, I've lowered this to a 1. The big thing was starting the campaign over and realizing that literally the entire design is built to make you wait, follow, listen, fight for a minute and then run somewhere so you can wait, follow, listen and briefly fight. It's SO lazy. Ugh... This game is not worth your time nor your money. Please do something, Blizzard**

Early acess 02/06/23 : minor bugs, servers were working pretty well. I progress through the campaign with my friends and it went pretty well. But once we achieved endgame features, there's a lot of bugs.
Nightmare dungeons : bugged. You can't go in with friends because you will be desynchronised 1 dungeon out of 2.
Helltide : unplayable with lags. you'll die everytime you take a lag, and you'll lose your components.

Release date 06/06/23 : lags everytime. Permanent lags, so totally unplayable endgame features

    08/06/23 22h30 GMT+1 : Crash server. Can't play. Only 2 days since release.

Enough with server problems. There's also class balance problems. Barbarian is Godlike, rogue is too squishy (gets one shotted by almost everything), necromancer has literraly 0 mobility, druid is unkillable, and sorcerer is the only balanced class.

Let's talk about campaign : Act 1, 2, 3 ,4 and 5 are Star Wars Disney tier. Act 6 is a real masterpiece.
Campaign boss fights are for retarded ppl. they have 0 mechanics, they just have a ton of hp.
Only Lilith have a real boss fight. And Elias after the campaign will have a real boss fight too.

The Artistic Direction is perfect. that's why i give them 1 point.
Sound Design is good, but Lost Ark is better at it.

There's a lack of features in the UI. We can't see other player's profile. there's no statistics, can't watch playtime, there's no ladder.
There's no search bar for items in the stash. Gems take too much space

And there's a ton of other bugs, like sometimes you can't use any ability or dash. Sometimes the horse's pathfinding will totally bug. Cinematics will sometimes bug when you play with friends, only 1 in the group will the dialogues / cinematics.

There's no diversity in the bestiary and the dungeon bosses or in the decorations. All monsters are recycled with different color, and they are spread all over the entire map. Dungeons are procedural but you will see always the same monsters in them.
Dungeon Bosses are catastrophic. Distant / Mage bosses are retarded, they do no damage so you can just burst them with any build.
Melee Bosses are a nightmare, they run faster than you, have an attack speed higher than the light speed. So you almost can't kite them and if you don't play barbarian, druid or sorcerer frost you'll just instant die.

To sum up, this game is **** tier and doesn't deserve your money, let Blizzard sink.

The gameplay itself is very similar to Diablo immortal, which for a F2P mobile game was adequate - but for a triple A flagship title all I can say is Diablo 4 feels half baked and unpolished.

The "Skill Tree" is essentially a linear "choose one" skill selector, and the paragon board only gives an illusion of depth and diversity, which seriously detracts from the long term replayability of Diablo 4, which has always been the franchises strength. More than anything however - is that it just wasn't fun, even in the early access beta when everything was new and shiny it just felt like a boring version of any other generic low budget ARPG. I know comparing it to Diablo Immortal might come off as a slur, but it really does feel like the closest analogue in terms of feel and fun, and in some respects I think I liked Diablo Immortal better.

I'm sad to find that this game fell flat on it's face, as with any other game in the Diablo franchise I was looking forward to many years of at least casual engagement, but I found myself bored, uninterested and just not caring shockingly fast.

In preparation for this review, I ended up asking myself - would I play this game if it was F2P - and ultimately, no, this isn't worth even my time - I have better games to play, and just touching grass would be a more rewarding experience than spending a couple hours in Diablo 4. Considering this is a full price $70 (minimum) game with already oodles of premium add-ons, micro transactions, battle passes and more - I question how the standards of developers have slipped so far.

Great the few first hours, it quickly becomes boring. You spent more time travelling than fighting monsters, except for the campaign, bosses are not interesting.

In previous games you were able to chain floors, here when you finish a dungeon you have to travel to the next one, so slow paced.

I pre-ordered this expecting it to be at least as polished as Diablo 3. What a mistake. They took all the best elements of Diablo out as if they have learned nothing from the previous games.

Blizz is trying to make and Loot based ARPG MMO, without rewarding loot system. An ARPG without action. A MMO without a social system.

Unfinished game. Blizzard decided to nerf everything because players were completing the campaign and material too quickly. No effort to improve other classes or weak builds, just nerfing skills and items. You wake up and your character does 40% of the damage you used to, what a joke. I would steer away and look for games such as baldur's gate 3.

    Not recommend to buy.
    The game wasn't ready.
Blizzard doesn't listen to the community, doesn't fix the most important issues of the game(stash, lack of end game content, resistances doesn't work).
Instead they just nerf all the classes.

The game launched well with a few issues, but was overall a decent game. Probably an 8. Known QOL issues and broken mechanics have been ignored outright by the dev team and in the most recent patch(1.1) they went off the deep end and made matters worse. Some classes are unplayable in the higher levels.

Diablo IV started off well, but its shortcomings have become more apparent as the weeks go on. It was always half-baked and lacking features, but still somewhat enjoyable to play. The graphics are good, but the story is forgettable and was clearly shoehorned into being extended infinitely into their live-service "seasons".

The online-only requirement is a joke. Forget about testing yourself in Hardcore, since any connection issue on either yours, Blizzard's, or Xbox's side will result in permadeath for your character.

I initially enjoyed the gameplay, acknowledging the obvious slower pace when compared to Diablo III. The resource generation is a fraction of what it was in the previous game, and it really shows with the skills used in meta builds.

The loot in this game is absolutely abysmal. Items regularly drop 10-15 levels below your current level. Killing level 67 enemies to get a level 45 item in return is not rewarding. Even if the loot is appropriately-scaled, there is no guarantee you will have good RNG with the item power, and it will still most likely be useless. I frequently fill up my inventory with rares and legendaries to just end up selling or salvaging it all.

Build viability is a major issue. Druid, Rogue, and Necromancer all have effective builds, but some are much more effective than others. Barbarian has a few decent builds, but nothing super optimal. Good luck if you want to play Sorcerer though. You've heard of glass cannon, well say hello to glass squirt gun.

On top of all the balancing issues, the UI is horrendous. Clearly little effort or funding was put into testing any of it.

All of the above issues were apparent before the recent 1.1 patch... so what did this patch change? Did Blizzard improve any of the UI issues? Did they buff less effective builds? Did they bring back any quality of life features from previous games? Did they make loot worth grinding for? No. Of course not. This patch entailed wide-spread nerfs to damage, survivability, loot drops, and XP gain. Not even the mistreated sorcerers could escape the Wrath of Blizzard's nerf hammer.

This game was slow to begin with, but now it is slower, more difficult, more tedious, less rewarding, and ultimately less fun. I will not be playing this game until the issues are fixed, and I encourage others to make the same decision.

This game has a lot of potential, but it seems like the devs are purposely doing everything they can to prevent anyone from having any fun. Blizzard, please step out of your own way and give us the game you promised.

Diablo IV is the perfect evolution of the series. The many new features make for a truly modern title, giving us an experience capable of keeping us glued to the controller for many hours, without neglecting the historical and most beloved features of the series. If we add to this a technical aspect of the highest quality, a very accessible multiplayer structure, and a huge end-game, we obtain a majestic title that stands as the best exponent of the action-RPG genre and is capable of bringing us plenty of emotions.

Diablo IV is the culmination of everything Blizzard has set up before to make one ultimate experience. The world is stunning, drowned in a beautiful soundtrack that makes even the smallest moments feel epic. With a deep character system, satisfying combat and an endgame that feels like only the start of your adventure, it's hard not to recommend. Dig in, experiment with classes, fight some demons and loot some dungeons. You won’t regret it.
