Assassin's Creed games is basically closest we will ever get to actual time travel. Visiting these old cities and locations is just amazing. Of course it's still fiction, but so is Red Dead Redemption and that's fine. Still close enough.

Makes me wonder why they even did Odyssey like they did. It clearly didn't work. I'm not saying it was bad game, it had some good stuff too, but overall Valhalla stands out as superior in basically ever way. AC is finally back!

AC: Valhalla doesn't exactly re-invent the formula, but i think for now it's a good thing.
They fixed what went wrong with Odyssey and brought back missing elements while making story, characters and world better. With next one they need to do some complete overhaul, but Valhalla is good beginning for next era Assassin's Creed games.

    TL;DR spoiler-free Review.

Graphics - When I first booted it up it looked just as good as the last few ultra quality PC games I’ve played. Beginning - The story is good, the combat is great, Raiding is adrenaline filled. Middle - Fun, but at about 50hrs in for halfway, it’s clear there is quite a large amount of side content, and it does get repetitive. End - Whilst intriguing

Whilst intriguing at first, the lore all gets spun around everywhere(inc modern day stuff), then it just ends. Either they took stuff out to put into the DLC or they had to rush the ending to release in time.

People shouldn't even start some nonsense like "it's not well made", when they literally have no idea what they are talking about. I'm so glad it got nominated for "Best Action / Adventure Game" at "The Game Awards". That alone shows that people who are part of gaming at least understand and acknowledge that it is well made video game!
It doesn't have to win and very likely wont, that's not the point. What matters is fact that it got nominated.

Finished the whole game. 60-70 hours total played. I've played every AC since 2009 right when they come out and some age better than others. I think this will age well. Some thoughts:

-They've toned down the RPG elements just enough to make the game fun again and not a slog to get through.
-Narrative is strong when looked at in terms of each story arc. But some arcs are definitely better than others and a *bit* more editing could have made it a much tighter game. Or just making a few of the more minor arcs optional. I still would have played through them but the pacing of the main story (which is freaking amazing for the first 25-30 hours of the game), suffers through the latter half. Characters seems to be self-aware of this too: "It took you a long time" - I know, Sigurd! Plus, without completing a few of the missions that they *do* make optional, the ending makes no sense.
-The meta-story elements (modern day, Assassins & Templars lore) are *chef's kiss*. Could have integrated them a bit more into the main story but after Odyssey, who's complaining?
-Ubisoft needs to bury Anvil Next in a hole in the ground. The dev team did a seriously impressive job building the game that they did in this engine but fluidity of combat and traversal suffer for it.

Setting: 9/10 - diverse world, interesting historical characters, mythology integrated in a sensible way
Soundtrack: 10/10 - they should have used that epilogue song more
Parkour/Navigation: 3/10 - Accessible, but not deep in any way
Combat: 6.5/10 - Bit rough in the early going, but it gets better and better as you go along and you can't argue how fun stun finishers are. The engine being too inconsistent and sluggish hold it back.
Story: 8/10 - Voice acting is good. Pacing becomes an issue later on. Villains are good. Eivor is just okay. Mostly is just reactive to what the characters around him/her do and is not driving the plot very much.
Performance: 9/10 I played on a VRR screen, so I didn't have the horrible dropped frames/screen tearing in cutscenes issue that I've seen on some gameplay footage. Impressively well polished for a game this large, this close to release. It has bugs for sure, but none of them were game-breaking.

One of my favorite AC games in years. Not perfect by any means, but very very good. A step in the right direction for future games to improve on. Props to the dev team.

Valhalla is first good step into the future of Ubisoft, it's really well done game, but now things need to go even further. Really DEEPLY focus on writing, Valhalla is good, go even more deep! Invest more into your products, you have good directors, give them all the freedom the need! I know you can make good stuff, you have done it past, you can do it again, i really believe it.
I believe in you Ubisoft, because i have really liked some of your games (AC 4 Black Flag, AC Unity (after patches obviously), Far Cry 3 and even some Ghost Recon Games, even Watch Dogs 1 was good, even tho it wasn't perfect. I would hate to see you go down like this. What you did in 2019 is unforgivable, but every company messes up at times, In fact all your games have better writing than Fallout 4 or Fallout 76, not that it's good comparison, but just saying. But you need to take Rockstar as your inspiration and i feel, in a way you already do. That's good! Just focus on quality, fix more bugs before release and just do good games. That's all it takes. I'm so far loving Valhalla and i have high hopes for Far Cry 6 and future of Ubisoft, Please don't let me and all your fans down!

This 6.8 score in reality should be more like 7.6-8.1 but thanks to bots who give this game endless 0's, this score is lower. AC Valhalla has very big map and it's very long game, so basically if you don't like long game, there's no point trying this one. But if you do like long games, it's very solid. One of the better AC games imo.

By the way i'm saying all this, while Rockstar is one of my favorite gaming companies, but i'm honest, unlike these losers who think it's fine to hate Ubisoft. Unlike other companies Ubisoft ALWAYS releases their games Day 1 on EVERY platform. Rockstars takes 1-2 maybe 3 years for PC version and they STILL fcked up with RDR2 PC version. Nobody shakes a head. Ubisoft releases not perfect, but perectly playable (at least with any RTX card) game and people whine and complain like it's worst thing that has ever happened. It's just insanely, insanely pathetic how these absolute losers act. I literally hate them, i'm not even hiding it. If you are Ubisoft hater, i hate you. There was this one person on youtube comparing Valhalla graphics to 2013 game and saying it looks like sht. That's complete, absolute next level lies. From graphical standpoint this game looks incredible. I'm just so done with this hate and it has to change, something has to change. Expand

To anyone who is new to Assassin's Creed series : There's 100s of hours gameplay footage of this game on youtube. Watch it before you buy it! If it doesn't interest you, nobody is forcing you to buy it. It's great game but clearly not for everyone. I refuse to believe that someone who watched trailers, watched gameplay, bought it and then gives it 0 or 1. It doesn't even make sense.

Of course this one deserves 10/10, i'm not saying it's 10/10 game, more like 8. This one is actually solid game and haters are trying to bring it dow. If any game deserves 10/10 right now it's AC Valhalla. Without these 10/10's this score would be under 6, because there's so many absolute shtheads who just give it 0 or 1. That's pathetic.

People give it 10/10's to counter fake 0's. Otherwise this score would be extremely low thanks to haters who don't even own this game. 10/10 is only fair, but this game is solid 8.5. 7 is way too low for this one, maybe people who aren't Assassin's Creed fans wont understand that, but to them every AC is low rating i guess. 7 is way too low for this one, maybe people who aren't Assassin's Creed fans wont understand that, but to them every AC is low rating i guess. I mean it would be same with GTA, if you are not fan of it, then you rate it lower. But i am Assassin's Creed fan and i love these games to death and to me it's easy 8.5, maybe even 9. And this logic makes perfect sense, because there's so many who give 6 or 5 or even 3 to GTA 5. So in the end it's all up to personal taste what score you give something. There's no official leaderboard that says "this game deserves exactly that much". It's all up to personal taste. I like this game more than absolutely any other game that has come out in 2020 and i plan to play it a lot in 2021, so there's that. I'm so hyped for Ireland dlc. If you didn't care that much for it and wanna give it 7 that's fine, but don't tell others that they can't like this game more than you do. If someone wants to give it 9 or 10, they have every right to do so.

I've put about 70 hours into the game so far. As of right now, the ceiling on this game (which can increase depending on how good the DLC ends up being) is about 8.5. However, in it's current state, I'd give it a 7.

This game builds upon a lot of what worked in Origins and Odyssey while bringing back enough aspects from older games to get fanboys to stop whining on the internet.

There are a fair amount of bugs that need fixing. Not enough to make the game unplayable, but enough to frustrate the player into quitting the game for the day. Some are purely cosmetic (I turned around at one point and saw an NPC floating and spinning about 25 feet or so in the air, one time I got out of a row boat and it flung into the air and exploded, little things like this). However, some do restrict advancement and have required me to restart the game (the only bug that has repeated has been the lack of an ability to initiate a discussion with an NPC that I'm required to talk to for a mission, another that I've experienced was a wealth box that was underwater that had an invisible box around it that prevented me from getting it... I ended up having to probe around it until I finally found a point where I could get close enough to open it).

The parkour is just as frustrating as most people remember (I'm still shocked when I see people comment on how parkour was "great" in previous games... it is fun when it works, but when it doesn't, it is infuriating).

With respect to stealth, even with the return of "blending in" and the hidden blade, there is little point in being sneaky in this game. As long as you aren't under-powered, you can take on entire fortresses by yourself and enemies don't call for reinforcements like previous games (even the bells only notify enemies in the immediate area that you are there).

All in all, it's a fun game that will become good when the bugs are taken care of and could be great if the DLC is as good as Origins and Odyssey.

The story is full of plots and twists and the settlement mechanic means players must work to see the lives of their NPC's grow and become more fruitful characters. Whilst Valhalla can improve on many elements, such as the bugs or sometimes wonky animations; it is genuinely a great game by Ubisoft.

I can't recommend this game enough and whilst I wouldn't consider it a must-play; I can definitely mark it as an enjoyable odyssey that triumphs where previous Assassin's Creeds have failed. Horrible fight mechanics that felt like a step back in time. Combat is both incredibly clunky and unsatisfying.

Endless cutscenes that do nothing but bog the gameplay down.

Dull game pacing exacerbated by the huge game world, not improved by it.

And as usual for Ubisoft games: designers frequently break the game's immersion by forcing the player out of the actual gameplay with their continual flash-forwards to their ridiculous "archeologist from the future" storyline. Message to Ubisoft: no one buys a game about Vikings because they want to play as a researcher in a secret cabin somewhere. This has got to be the most baffling bit of stupid writing that has crippled every one of their AC games.

And contrary to all the fan boys out there, the graphics are fine - but not that good. Red Dead Redemption was far better, as was Death Stranding - and any of a dozen others - and they came out two years ago.

You may disagree and think this is a great game but there is a reason this game is not on anyone's award list: it's crap.

When there's a storyline between these collectathon sessions there's something moderately enjoyable here. But after murdering a entire town in back to back combat on medium difficulty and barely breaking a sweat...Just no.

The entire time I played this game at no point did I feel like I was experiencing anything fun. While there's some beautiful scenery and some barely interesting plot points nothing drew me in. I didn't much enjoy Odyssey for its also massive amount of optional busy work. But at least it's combat loop was sort of entertaining. But I abandoned that game after 20 hours. Valhalla reached that same point before I just got too bored. When while I'm playing I'm anxiously and happily considering work tomorrow rather then getting dragged into what's supposed to be a fantastic game world I just don't know. This is the last Assassin's Creed I'll ever buy.

As a side note I eventually ended up with the Xbox One version of this game. The PC version ran so poorly on a 2080 Super and a minus one from current gen i7 that if you're thinking of buying this on PC don't.

It is highly satisfying completing a story arc or traversing the world and finding things that you felt that other players might not have stumbled across due to the nature of the open world and its use of way finders. The lack of load times on Xbox Series S is truly impressive given the nature of environments, landscape, and elements that are present on screen. There were a few issues from characters floating in mid-air, bizarre enemy AI, and straight up freezes, although these were far and few between given the scope of it all. Intuitive and varied combat help keep things fresh, even if it does take a fair few hours of gameplay to really get going. Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a thoroughly enjoyable, open-world RPG that is an absolute must for Xbox owners.
