You don´t always need a full remake to make a beloved game feel fresh again. But considering some of the recent remasters on the market, Alan Wake´s rejuvenation looks rather dull - especially on XBOX Series X and PlayStation 5. Anyway, if you´ve never experienced the mysteries of Bright Falls before, your money´s still well spent.

Playing the remake on xbx It gets super repetitive. I'm at the "get to the coal mine" on episode 3, and I'm just getting bored, and at this point, want it to be over already.

The Positives: Pretty cool story, and voice acting. Looks decent, graphically. The surroundings and environment, are beautiful. Some tense moments. Decent cut-scenes, and I like the fact his stamina runs out

    The Positives:
Pretty cool story, and voice acting. Looks decent, graphically. The surroundings and environment, are beautiful. Some tense moments. Decent cut-scenes, and I like the fact his stamina runs out pretty quickly, and you need to pace yourself.

    The Negatives:
You lose everything you collect, (ammo, guns, flash bangs, batteries, flares, etc..) after every damn cut-scene, almost. So basically you're starting fresh, randomly. Horrible design flaw.
Camera angle constantly switches to 'over the left shoulder' view. You can switch back, but in seconds while running, or just exploring, it automatically veers right back to 'over the left shoulder' view.
Rinse/Repeat gameplay. They'll throw in more enemies to make it "challenging" so when you do die, you have to try and solve the best dilemma possible and it just gets frustrating and not fun anymore.
Scavenging for more ammo/batteries....to just lose it all later.
Controls are a bit janky at times.

The locations like with the "log cabin atmosphere" are great, however the cinematics even though they have been improved still look a bit clunky and dated. The gameplay is simply not that fun, constantly draining the enemies with the flashlight and then having to go through the bulletsponge enemies on normal. Sometimes frustrating gameplay. The story is ok, but not fantastic either. IThe locations like with the "log cabin atmosphere" are great, however the cinematics even though they have been improved still look a bit clunky and dated. I am going to hold off on Alan Wake 2 until I see some more gameplay of it before considering buying it. Expand

Gameplay looks outdated now but the charm and originality of the story compensate

Alan Wake remastered is something I have always wanted to exist as the original was highly under looked when it came out. It was tied to one console and frankly Remedy was not quite the household name it is today. It is one of their best games and worth checking out whether you played the original or not. It still carries plenty of jank and questionable design mechanics from that era, but the story and characters excel it past most of its own issues. This is one experience that is worth revisiting or experiencing for the first time.

Alan Wake is still a good game, but the remastered version reminds us that this game comes from a different era, and I wish that the devs would have implemented some QoL improvements to cater for this current gen.

This title is a true example of a game being considered art. The use of loops, light vs darkness themes, the music and score, all whilst building a lovable cast of characters makes it a memorable game. I would consider this remaster a general success with the exception for PC, consoles seem to be running the game with only one serious known issue that should be fixed soon.
