A solid wrestling game but lacks the meat on its bones to make it a good or even great wrestling game. The create a superstar is where the money is at here, there is a lot of stuff you can do there and its probably the best part of the game. Everything else lacks meat, the Career mode could have been given more depth and I wish I could have been able to use my female superstars. The My Universe mode is also fun but again, theres only so much you can do in it before you get bored. Expand

This years edition of WWE2k is an improvement over last year but it also has issues. The Showcases are gone and my career mode has been expanded to include promos. The creation modes are superb and expanded to include create a video for entrances. The roster is huge and thanks to the improved VC system it is easier than ever to purchase all the wrestlers, arenas, titles in the VC shop. The roster is huge and thanks to the improved VC system it is easier than ever to purchase all the wrestlers, arenas, titles in the VC shop. Now for the bad: long load times between matches, opening show videos that cant be skipped when in My Career mode, very repetitive commentary, massive amounts of slow down during matches between created wrestlers, frequent frame rate drops, and very frustrating submission/chain wrestling. While I could overlook the annoying show videos and commentary, I cannot overlook the other problems and it really does affect the excitement during competitive matches with friends. Did I mention the referee is always in front of the camera during matches totally obstructing your view? well, he is. Overall, if you enjoy this series then you'll find much to love with the improvements but be aware that it is not perfect and if you don't like the series then don't bother with this years edition. My low score is reflective of the bad things I discussed but I am currently playing the sh%t out of this game and having much fun--in between the two minute load screens and the unskippable opening show videos. WWE 2K17 was a step down in the 2K Franchise, as it downgraded in the Career Mode department and upgraded in the Universe Mode department.

    Career Mode
Career mode in WWE 2K17 was an absolute travesty. There is no redeeming quality in the mode at all. It is boring from beginning to end. It was hyped up to be a Career mode which would show the Created superstar to be managed by Paul Heyman, but that ended up being a major disappointment, as that would be the only notable storyline in the mode and was practically non existent. Other things included in the mode was a female wrestler being able to manage you and being able to create your own shirt and make VC off of it (VC is Virtual Currency), but even that couldn't help this absolute train wreck of a dumpster fire. Oh, and you would very much want to try your best in the performance centre, as if you do you will be able to skip NXT. If you didn't know, NXT is the development brand of WWE. If you don't do well in the performance centre, you will have to go down to NXT for a very long time. Too long.

    Universe Mode
Universe mode is a massive upgrade from the last 2 years. And tats do to one thing; Promos. Promos can help build up rivalries or affect a superstars status. It isn't perfect, but it was a step in the right direction.

    2K Showcase
2K showcase this time wasn't in the base game. It was instead released later in the game cycle as paid DLC. This 2k Showcase showcases the stories of the Hall Of Fame class of 2017. It features one match from each inductee. This is one of the lacklustre 2K showcases. It isn't really a bad mode, its just not worth the extra money.

    Final Verdict
Overall, WWE 2K17 was not a bad or good game, just very meh.

Like Roman Reigns, it looks the part, but the wrestling is rubbish. Scrap this and start again, 2K. [Christmas 2016, p.86]

You will get out of WWE 2K17 exactly what you put into it - be it a quick go for exciting ring action or an in-depth wrestling simulator which you can sink many hours into.
