WWE 2K17 doesn’t make any big, drastic changes, but its smart gameplay tweaks have revitalized match types I’d ignored the past few years. I really miss 2K Showcase, and 2K17 is still weak in areas that I feel should have been shored up by now, but its excellent combat, and generous amounts of customization help it retain its title.

You will get out of WWE 2K17 exactly what you put into it - be it a quick go for exciting ring action or an in-depth wrestling simulator which you can sink many hours into.

A good step forward for 2K's series, with solid gameplay improvements and very good commentating. We were underwhelmed by the Career mode and the lack of a Showcase mode.

The Diamond Dallas Page of WWE games - a rich legacy and entertaining, but too flawed for stardom. [Dec 2016, p.69]

Maybe it is time for Yuke’s to give the pro-wrestlers a break, take a good look at their game, question everything and leave no stone unturned. While the fight mechanics reflect the tension and pace of the “real” battles of the WWE superstars and the roster is more stacked than ever, there is nothing surprising in this year's grappling attack on your wallet.

More a series of small improvements than anything major, WWE 2K17 is a great deal of fun for wrestling fans.

The WWE 2K series needs a comprehensive tutorial more than anything. Hopefully that's on the agenda for next year's game. WWE 2K17 has all the authenticity a wrestling fan could want – I just wish it would ease new players into the gameplay better.

WWE 2K17 is a marginally better game than 2K16, as the core mechanics feel like they've been refined a bit, but with the fantastic 2K Showcase consigned to the bin and no new modes to replace it, this is a package that's now sorely lacking. You might as well play last year's game, unless you're a massive fan that has to have the most up to date roster possible. Otherwise, WWE 2K17 is an enjoyable wrestling game that could still do with a bit of a kick up the backside for next year's instalment.

WWE 2K17 doesn't seem like the newest game release in the franchise. No Showcase Mode in this edition without new gimmicks to justify the absence. No brand split, Universal Championship and the other new titles in this new era of WWE, but there’s a lot of content and fighters with which play dozens of hours.

Playing WWE 2K17 is as frustrating as being a fan of Dolph Ziggler: There’s a lot of potential there, but those in charge of the game just won’t let it shine.

2K17 is average at best, worth skipping if you’re a casual wrestling fan. Fans of the sport will find more to enjoy, but I’d have to wager it’ll be through a profound sense of disappointment.

Like Roman Reigns, it looks the part, but the wrestling is rubbish. Scrap this and start again, 2K. [Christmas 2016, p.86]

That's not the way to go because the opponent is still fresh. When the opponent is still fresh mean that you can't grab him immediately and throw him around wherever you like, because he still have plenty of energy in the early state. That's only two things you can do once the match start, either lockup or strike and nothing else. The game is almost the same as 2k15, very little fist fight, they mostly do running strike and grab throughout the entire match and nothing else. Irish whip opponent jump over the top rope and land on the apron like a spaceman in the royal rumble, eliminate opponent by grabbing the face and move back and forth, i mean, what kind of wrestling moves is this?? standing there dizzy for 30sec, auto roll out of the way after being stomp. No referee stop wrestler for relentless beat down end up messing the fighting and wrestling gameplay that turn into a clown circus. Full Review »

This is definitely one of the worst, boring, uninteresting wrestling games of the next gen era. There is literally no creativity or thoughtThis is definitely one of the worst, boring, uninteresting wrestling games of the next gen era. There is literally no creativity or thought put into these wrestling games anymore. My career is boring, Universe mode is Awful, create a wrestler is terrible no body morphing really? don't even get me started with the horrendous online play. This game is a total ripoff you basically get the exact same game every year with little to no effort or improvements at all. The only new feature we got was a LAME backstage brawl which also sucked because you only have one area to brawl in. Even playing with all of the legends pack this game was still boring to play. Wrestling games used to be so awesome when they had thought and creativity to them even if they were sort of goofy that's what made them fun to play. Now they are just stale and flat out boring the fact that they charge 60 $ for this crap with no improvements or anything that has changed at all is crazy. It's really sad that in 2017 id still rather play old classics like Here comes the pain or shut your mouth gamest hat were made years ago then this boring garbage. SAD Full Review »

I should have known that when 2K announced that Showcase mode was being scrapped in the middle of development, this game would have issues. 2kI should have known that when 2K announced that Showcase mode was being scrapped in the middle of development, this game would have issues. 2k added a lot to the gameplay this year with rollouts in mult-person matches, more customization in Universe, new mechanics to ladders and tables matches, crowd fighting and backstage brawling, as well as improvements to Create a Superstar and Create a Championship.

If I was scoring the game on all that I would probably give it an 8.5. Unfortunately the game is mired in a litany of bugs and glictches. The fanboys will deny this and tell you "you're playing the game wrong" but this is the buggiest, most unstable game I have ever played.

You can't edit cards in Universe. The game just adds random matches to the card at the end every time you try to edit something. Good luck having a brand split or separate promotions. The game randomly injects superstars from other shows into your cards. Wrestlers don't come out with titles. The text in the promo system is plagued with spelling and grammar issues. Did this game even go through QA testing?

The worst part is the constant crashing. People are having their games crash only to find when they relaunch the game, all their save data is gone. The crashing was so bad for me that I finally got fed up, called MS customer support and asked for a refund.

WWE 2k17 has some improvements but is plagued with bugs and issues. 2k released an unfinished, unplayable game. Hopefully people don't experience as many issues as I did. However if you do, don't hesitate to get a refund. 2k should be held to account for releasing such a broken game.
