Thankfully Vampyr ticks a lot of boxes for me and even though it has a few shortcomings I was able to look past these because for me they got the important aspects and mechanics spot on. Something I was hoping this game had was a decent story, and thankfully the story was excellent. I was hooked from start to finish because the story had a dark and mysterious vibe that resonated throughout and the characters that were in the story were very intriguing to say the least. I was also very impressed with the world in which the game takes place because exploring this fantastic world never became dull. The main reason why it didn’t become dull is because there was always something to do and the side quests were always fun to undertake, which is great. The gameplay on the whole has a lot of variety going for it and the investigating mechanics have been very well done. Investigating never seemed to get boring and it was always a pleasure making the choices you have to make in the game because these choices actually matter in the grand scheme of things. Whilst I really enjoyed making the choices I had to make it would’ve been nice to have had a little bit more freedom with them, but thankfully this is only a small gripe. My biggest gripe with this game came in the form of the compass that guides you to where you’re meant to go. The problem is that the compass never guided me to where I had to go correctly and this did make me become frustrated from time to time. Despite my frustration with this aspect of the game I was however able to look past it quite easily thanks to the game’s excellent combat. The combat in the game was fun to say the least and the best thing is that it did more than enough to satisfy me. If you’re wondering about the presentation side of the game then you’ll be pleased to know that they get quite a bit right, but it’s not all plain sailing. Visually the game can look quite ugly at times and there is definitely a distinct lack of polish here, especially when it comes to the technichal side of the game. The sound design though has been done extremely well and the very good voice acting combined with the tense atmosphere makes things very immersive, which is great. At the end of the day as far as AA game’s go Vampyr is a very good addition and even though it doesn’t have all the glamour a AAA title has I thoroughly recommend that you add this title to your game library. Great story! Probably one of the best games in exploring this Vampire World, and we do not have a lot for sure! Gameplay is ok if you're familiar with the Souls style. Some influences from The Witcher franchise is also obvious and the conversations are amazing! the only big problem on the XOne version is that the loading time that is long and also happens more than it should.

    Youre dead. Well. Youre undead.
Youre a vampire. Things happen that set you out to get answers and to save early 1900s London which is where this game is set…
    During the 1918 spanish flu…
The game takes place in an open world with vampyr hunters crawling the streets, youre given tasks and markers on the map, and you spend the games 13 hour long campaign going from place to place, at first gathering materials for the hospital that takes you in.. in between all of these areas are of course enemies wanting you dead.. lucky for you youre a vampire… you have a skill tree that you dump your experience into that’s earned off of these enemies and that you get from completing quests and sidequests…
and at the end of these missions theres usually a giant boss to take down, test out your skills, switching between one handed and two handed weapons, stunning enemies so you can bite them and drain their blood which allows you use the moves you’ve unlocked in your skill tree that not onlky need blood but run on a cool down as well.. and then the rest of the game youre investigating and gathering information..
I guess you could say.. youre londons batman…
this is when the game really starts to come to life.. you gather hints from characters that will unlock new dialog options of other charcters and you can go back and forther gathering info on the location of a person youre searching for…. But more importantly this is where the whole you being a vampire thing comes into play…
you can play this game as a good vampire, controlling your thirst for blood.. or you caun be like me.. a naughty vampire.. sucking all that blood. If you see someone out there looking like a snack.. they can be..
you can mesmerize characters, bring them into the shadows and drain them of their delicious blood, granting you a massive xp reward.. youre rewarded for being bad in that you can afford more skills, you become a more powerful vampire, thus the game is easier for you…
but by doing so chaos will break loose in the territories t hat you take too much life from.. and this is where I had the most fun.. in the role playing of a vampire.. of getting my victims to invite me inside and little do they know im just a little thirsty…
But now comes the tough love,
Vampyr is essentially a mid life cycle ps3 game.
There are so many mistakes made in this open world that just make this game painful.
for starters there is no fast travel.
there are hideouts spread all of this map where you can rest to spend your xp, refill your ammo, upgrade the weapons you find in the world.. but you cant travel to a single one of them…
and its not like the game slowly moves you along the map, no.. these missions will have you running back and forth across this world constantly…
this is made worse by the annoying decision to lock every single gate in the game.. you can just run from territory to territory, because theyre going to put a gat in the middle of the street that if you didn’t unlock from the otherside 7 hour ago, youre gonna have to run all the way around the map again.. dealing with other locked gates and paths…
but a las it gets worse…
its not as simple as running from one place to another there are enemies all over the place and you cant interact with unlocked gate while enemies are around.. forcing you to have to engage in combat before moving forward..
    but it somehow gets worse…
the combat here is sluggish slow and unfun, special attacks use way too much blood for how little damage they do, and to get more blood you have to do enough stun damage for an enemy to be vulnerable to be bitten… fights just drag on forever.. im a vampire.. I want to feel like some untouchable god when im dealing with these hunters and vampire rejects in the streets…
the only time the combat is fun is during boss battles.. boss battles are addictive and challenging.. forcing me to strategize.. its like the combat was made only with boss battles in mind and the street enemies weren’t balanced… fighting them isn’t fun.. theyre a nussiance.. it’s a chore
    BUT. IT. GETS. WORSE.
youre not even rewarded for dealing with these garbage encounters
These annoying enemies crawling all over the place only gain you 5 to 15 xp each.
Higher level upgrades cost about 2000 xp each.
That means you have to kill 130 to 400 for one single upgrade….
I don’t know how this ridiculous unbalanced in risk reward was overlooked but it was..
These enemies are far too much of a threat for you to need to kill 400 of them for an upgrade.
    Get out of here.
That being said vampyr is still a good game.. I enjoyed the game, its currently one of my top 20 games of 2018 so far.
Im just baffiled at the ps3 era mistakes made in a 2018 game
thankfully The story, the world, and the roleplaying save this game..

Don’t Nod’s latest has all the ingredients of a fantastic RPG, but – unfortunately – some of its most alluring concepts are only superficially explored, and yet others are applied inconsistently throughout. The protagonist never seemed to noticeably darken, despite his evil deeds – nor did the public perception of him; and, worse, though Vampyr notionally permits a high degree of player choice, its narrative neglects and ignores these choices as the lacklustre story unfolds. This – for a roleplaying game – is a cardinal sin, and results in a morass of incongruous moments. Vampyr is a game you won’t be sorry to have played, though it might leave a bitter taste in your mouth; the taste of missed opportunity. Expand

This is an intriguing idea and is quite enjoyable game. The developers have gone some way to nailing the dark foreboding atmosphere of early 20th century London in the grip of Spanish flu. I like the idea of the payoff between helping people as a doctor and your thirst for blood as a vampire, or should I say “vampyr”. (This actually creates quite a palpable dilemma. I really want to see the area improve but I am a vampire after all and the lure of all those experience points is proving too much for me!) I haven’t noticed much slowdown. One negative is that I constantly feel that I am running along linear dungeon corridors as of old school video games. You cant really go off the beaten path much to explore. It feels like London is a film set and you are an actor. None of the doors open unless they are linked in some way to the plot for example. Also, I can instantly warp to some high balconies or ledges using my vampire ability but my character is frequently defeated by other 2 foot high walls or pile of boxes I can’t even step over for some reason. London is not quite “real” if you know what I mean. In addition, I can’t understand why all the characters I talk to seem to bob up and down as if they are marionettes suspended on strings. Having said that, it’s different and it’s drawing me in. Expand

Vampyr is uneven, The writing is excellent but at times so full of filler that it makes it hard to digest. The atmosphere is excellent and the story is overall very good. The voice acting is definitely a highlight as is the soundtrack and both are well done. Those are the biggest positives.

The negatives are almost overwhelming. On the original Xbox One it has technical issues - below average graphics, HUGE loading issues that break immersion and can make you want to scream (when it hits a loading pause during a random piece of combat you know it has issues - especially when it takes 30 seconds to resolve) and it will have bugs that break the game during dialogue and audio glitches that disrupt conversation and even create long loss of voice during some scenes. The combat gets in the way of the game - it's okay, but not too challenging and you can cheese it in places easily. If you do die it is random as to what resources you will respawn with - sometimes it has you consume all you used and other times you respawn with everything you started with before dying. But the greatest sin is the placement of written materials in places on certain levels that are long and you read to open dialogue. Then when you have the dialogue it GOES OVER EVERYTHING YOU JUST READ.

This game could have been much better paced. The only thing that made me stick with it until the end is the story appealed to me, but as a game it disappointed me. The combat was okay, but realistically should have been better developed or removed. Vampyr could have been a great game, instead it was released as an okay to fairly good game.

Like so many games before it Vampyr had the potential to be an amazing, but fell very short of that mark.

From a visual standpoint the game doesn't look as good as it should. Everything looks good when you're moving and fighting. There's light, and texture, and shadows, and color, and water, and reflections, etc., but when you stop moving and look at the characters and buildings, they just don't hold up. Close up examination of character faces looks like they are from 2013, and when you look at certain buildings up close they have a shaded cell look.

The combat is incredibly annoying. I found myself constantly be swarmed and overpowered by mobs of enemies about 1/3 of the way through the game and onward. Using the free camera during combat is terrible because you can't see where all the enemies are, and it isn't any better when you engage the target lock on mechanic, it's still just as bad about not being able to see the enemies behind you and dodge their attack.
I found the leveling system to be very unbalanced. Since the game gives you a good vs evil balance gameplay mechanic (like other games), leveling should be just as easy whether you choose to play aggressive or passive, but this is not the case. I tried to play a passive game and didn't kill any of the secondary characters for fear of missing out on a side mission, or collectible, or necessary dialogue, etc., but I found that I was constantly wayyy underleveled compared to my enemies. I was doing all of the side missions, main story missions, fighting all the enemies I came across, I was leveling my weapons and powers up. But almost anywhere I went after the first 1/4 of the game, every enemy and boss was consistently 4 or 5 levels higher than me. Almost every game that does this type of "play however you want but be aware of consequences" style rewards you for playing passively just as equally as if you played aggressively. Sadly from my experience this was not the case for Vampyr.
Also, there is no fast traveling which has to be one of the most annoying things ever. I was constantly having to run from corner to corner of this damn game because there is absolutely no form of fast travel or quicker transportation than walking from one end to the other while fighting 30 enemies on the way. Despite the fact that I've unlocked like 15 safe rooms all over the map. Smh.

Finally, the story was just bleh. It wasn't bad per se, but it was just average at best. No real character development that led to meaningful connections with any of the characters. Really bad writing of the "twist" moments, like when you find out your sister is now a vampire and you have to fight her. That was just such a terrible sequence. Again, not terrible but definitely not good either.

As I stated at the beginning, this game had a lot of potential. You can see under the surface of averageness how amazing and phenomenal it could have been, but just wasn't. The handful of positives that the game has are far outweighed by the multitude of negative/annoying mechanics it has. Sadly, just another average title that could have been so much more.

Don't bother with this title at full price, wait until it is at around $20 at best.

I initially had my doubts about picking up Vampyr. I can happily say that all of those doubts have been dispelled though. The story is positively compelling and always brings me coming back to London to see it through. Every quest you complete immerses you further into the world that you're playing through. I can happily say that all of those doubts have been dispelled though. The story is positively compelling and always brings me coming back to London to see it through. Every quest you complete immerses you further into the world that you're playing through. There have been moments where I've completely lost track of time playing this game, purely because I was so entrenched in continuing on Dr. Reid's story.

The game play is also a lot better than I expected from a non-AAA game. The use of hints (found out by exploring or talking to NPCs) to unlock further branches in conversation is a nice touch that makes it feel like you're accomplishing something whenever you talk to an NPC. It's not just the same A, B, C, or D conversation options. With the hints, you can really get to know the person you're talking to and it makes them seem a lot more three dimensional than the usual random NPC.

The most interesting element of the game play has to be the game difficulty being decided by your actions in game. I don't want to spell out the whole deal, but just know this: If you want to play as a true good character who doesn't indulge in his vampire nature, be prepared to die a whole lot.

Speaking of dying, the combat is also done rather well. You have a plethora of weapons and vampire powers that you can utilize to dispatch your foes, and they all are fairly great to use. The combat flows pretty naturally, with a variety of enemies that keep you on your toes and adjusting tactics during combat. I do have one small gripe about the enemies though. i've noticed that they are programmed to only stay within a certain area. If you smack one and run away, they'll chase you about 100 meters or so, then just stare at you and walk back to where they were, allowing you some cheap shots on them with your revolver. That's just a small gripe that really doesn't take away from the whole experience though.

Overall, I'd say this is worth a buy or at least a rent. If you want to play something challenging and fulfilling, then passing up this game would be a huge mistake.

I'm not very surprised that even the most basic achievements are rated "rare", meaning that a low percentage of users achieved them: it means that most players abandon the game after a while.
Graphics are meh, and yet they manage to stutter rather often. On an XBox One X.
Most characters are not very interesting and certain dialogues feel badly written, even though you'll spend so much time talking to people. At a certain point, romance appears out of the blue, with the blandest love declaration ever. Almost embarrassing.
During dialogues, you often need to guess the "right" answer or miss an important hint on the character you are talking to, that would open up more dialogue options. This is not bad per se, it means that your choices matter and also go back to pen and paper RPGs, where you don't usually get 100% completion. Having fun does not mean getting every choice right, so I'm ok with this, but on the other hand, sometimes the choices presented to you are misleading, compared to what the character is actually going to say. All in all, getting the right answer is mostly guesswork, and this is irritating. Much more so when a wrong answer results in the irreversible destruction of a whole district. Oh, and sometimes you get character hints by chatting with other characters. Make sure you ask EVERYONE about where to find Mr. X, even after you learn the information, because one character on the map has one special hint about him.
The map is not huge but is labyrinthine, so that to go from point A to point B you'll often need to take huge detours. Also, gates placed at key positions and locked or open according to the current quest, force you to take even more detours. Since there is a lot of backtracking, this becomes infuriating after a while.
People get sick in the map, and progressively get worse if left unattended. Killed an NPC to evolve? Build up a huge reserve of medicine and go around the whole district to heal everyone again. Level 1 medicine requires a lowish amount of resources, but creating medicine for level 3 diseases implies slaying hundreds of ghouls or fanatics. Grind, grind, grind. At least NPCs don't get worse until you sleep in a bed.
Combat? Your character is the weakest creature in the game, bar none. Even the weakest enemies can jump/slide huge distances with their attacks and are better armored and much less stagger-prone than you are. Killing a normal enemy takes up at least five times the damage it takes to kill you. Heavies, who are pretty common, unite a near-total resistance to staggers, a huge health poool, very long range devastating attacks and sometimes weapons of mass destruction, like flame throwers or chemical blowers, with infinite ammo. Enemy vampires have no limit on blood attacks, unlike you, and can spam their special moves with no need to recharge their blood pool.
Your saving grace? A blinking, short-range evasion move, which is often not enough to avoid absurdly long range melee attacks. Also, you get often boxed in areas where the camera goes crazy. There is an obstacle that you cannot see and you die, because you can no longer escape the enemy.
You do have some nice vampire attacks, which you need to mix and match. An enemy that is resistant to melee attacks may be vulnerable to blood damage (no weaknesses exist: at best you deal full damage, as opposed to reduced damage - guess what? You have no resistance to anything). So, can you take up your blood spear to the maximum level and use it as your main weapon? NO. The game does not allow you to level up an ability beyond a certain point, depending on your level, so you are stick with underwhelming attacks. Many games do so, but the overall impression is that, instead of being a super powerful vampire, you are King Wimp, wimpest of the wimps. At some point, a vampire you have created by mistake becomes a boss, with attacks that are incredibly powerful compared to yours and a nearly infinite hit point reserve. Shouldn't the progeny be weaker than the creator? The game is still better than ones that are too easy, but it is needlessly frustrating and boring, when even weak enemies require a huge number of hits to be taken down.
TL;DR: grindy disease mechanics, unfair combat and super contrived city traversal make playing this game as much a chore as it is fun. Too bad because there is something nice, under all those errors.

This game is a 3rd person action/adventure/mystery rpg where the protagonist is Dr. Reid. A young aspiring physician during the 1918 flu epidemic. Life was cut short for this young doctor and basically waking up with little to no memory of the incident that would change his umm life forever. After a tragic beginning the game jumps right into the training to be an effective creature of the night and funny enough a detective.

Enemies are everywhere with the antagonist of the story in the hero's mind trying to influence his latest protégé on the "dark side" while he is fighting is still human nature against the unquenchable thirst that is driving him.

Decisions do matter in this game and the biggest one is whether or not to feed. This game has a very interesting difficulty setting that changes depending on whether you indulge in your dark instincts.

Pros- The story is captivating and being a doctor you slowly care about the state of your patients and your city. Do you save lives to improve London or devour your way through this historical time period? The combat has lots of variances with different types of weapons and skills you can acquire.
The leveling system is unique and similar to most rpgs but the new twist really can affect the way you play. Finally, the environment really puts you in this time period not only with the buildings but the illness, the people, the mannerism and attitudes. One can feel the state of London during one of the deadliest plagues to hit in recent history.

Cons - the loading screens are long and tedious
the graphics seem a tad outdated compared to other titles that have been released recently but only by a minor standpoint.
The detective work can seem a slow unnecessary aspect of the game but helps the characters grow and put the time period into perspective

I would rate this game as above average with loads of potential and a step in the right direction for this genre where combat isn't the sole aspect of the game. I would say it is a must buy for any crime/mystery enthusiasts at least rent this game and try it out and see what surprises are awaiting you in this supernatural adaptation of London that most only have read about in classic novels.

combat? very fluid IF you know how to build synergistic mechanics with your playstyle. otherwise, it will be “clunky” as the foolish mistakenly whine

the combat fits the game perfectly and the skills add great subtlety and depth

combat is fluid, fast and you dont lose progress
as with dark souls, learning from your mistakes and the enemy tendencies is key

as well, nicely unique with this game is that i get to control the difficulty by my in-game choices: play the embracing killing vampire and the game gets easy; no-kill runs means a much harder game thankfully
as well, one can choose to upgrade their weapons or not to further increase the challenge
being out-leveled by 10+ is great fun!

feel like doing some combat then go for it
want to search the environment and talk to characters at a slower pace then you can (you do NOT have to constantly fight mobs except at specific story dictated points)

hidden stuff everywhere for those like me who love exploring all nooks

almost zero bugs/glitches outside of a couple side quests
multiple playthroughs and styles of play
    great Sound
good graphics (graphic whores laughed at then ignored)
    no framerate issues

story is great; NOTHING in the story was weird or forced IF you pay attention (those who say it was are proving their inattentiveness)
the game doesnt attempt to “surprise twist” at any point, again, if you were paying attention and have critical thinking skills

my biggest gripe is the hint and conversation choices: they are most often blind guesses and with limited and/or FORCED choices and branching that doesnt make sense, especially, once youve made a prior choice

for example: as usual, liberal Regressive morals/politics do NOT allow an anti-sodomite pathway, which, half the world knows is not normal or ok. anti-gun idiocy. yappin about skin color. foolish feminism. laughably naive anti-death penalty.

and, of course, anti-God and anti-religion. but, pro-occult, lol.

or, picking a generic path but only getting further hints by choosing another path that makes no sense after that first line of questioning or again, forced acceptance of the developers’ Real-life obtrusive, short-sighted and degenerate moral/political beliefs to further ones VIDEO game progression

    DISGRACEFUL and idiotic

i certainly am excited for vampyr2 and hope it takes this great base and packs it with more of everything as a hopefully greater budget dictates

length? a good 50+hours for the explorers (second runs and challenge runs increases longevity significantly if that isnt enough for you)

this game is Underrated because so many declare that it is 7-ish for the most foolish reasons and one can easily PROVE those dimwitted beliefs false and that this unique game is superb in almost all meaningful categories.

    8.5 minimum

    * as always, DO NOT cheat! looking up the answers and locations spoils the game and you will NEVER have that first run again! *

** i absolutely suggest playing on Hard, picking a roleplay (pick choices that confirm your predetermined roleplay and conscience), choosing accordingly (pick your hints, Ys and conversations) and doing a no-kill run first **

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Probably one of the worst games I've ever played. In terms of level design, it is almost as if they tried to emulate the keyed passage and intertwining locations used in games like Resident Evil 2, but failed miserably. The entire map is a convoluted mess, having to go through different districts to get to an area you can plainly see in front of you, irritating at minimum. To top it off, you are such a powerful immortal, yet you cannot jump, or using the games replacement for jumping, teleport behind or on top of simple obstacles. The combat is nice, but can be clunky, the use of firearms is absolutely worthless (don't bother). The powers are unremarkable ('Claw'? Seriously?), the story is interesting but has a terrible climax. I don't know how to say it but it feels like playing Arkham Knight in a shoebox. Constantly fighting the controller. The leveling system is broken for difficulty levels, you will barely get an edge and the final boss is so annoying, I had to stop playing. She is almost 20 levels higher than you no matter what you do, and can kill you in two hits, yet it will take you upwards of 50 or so to kill her, nearly impossible to get blood off of her either to replenish your own. On top of that, its the only area in the game where if you did, your health products and ammunition do not replenish to as they were before you died. Which will completely turn most people away from continuing this boss fight. Not to mention, every single enemy feels so spongy, like The Division or other poorly made RPG's. The redeeming quality? The Atmosphere, although hampered by a crap level design, it does a great job representing 1918 London (or so I would imagine). Probably not the game designers fault, probably a publisher who made them push out an unrefined game, like EA does. Its worth a shot, but its not a game you will be invested in, wait for it to be on sale for $10-15 dollars or less. Expand

The setting of early 20th Century alternative London I thought was well done. The art direction does a decent job of giving the player that feeling of being in a dark, depressing and gloomy world being ravaged by a plague with almost no hope in sight. Abandoned buildings, dead bodies wrapped up and pilled onto carts and vigilante patrols give a sense of dread and unease. There's a few interesting Sin City-esque scenes that I also enjoyed.

The story and concept I think are fine; it's a branching story with choice and consequences. You play as Dr. Jonathan Reid who returns home to London from the frontlines of World War 1 only to discover he's turned into a vampire and has to figure out why and what impact it has on the world around him. The NPC backstories of each district are presented well enough and there's a motivation to get to know them as well. The more you unearth about them, the more desirable their blood becomes, which results in a huge bump in XP should you choose suck their blood. This is valuable for stat upgrades. You also have to craft them medicine if they begin to feel sick; their sickness decreases the value of their blood. If you choose to feed on any of the NPCs, their death will have rippling effects on the health of the district, particularly if one of the district "pillars" goes down.

However, I though the execution of all of this came up a bit short. As easy as it would be to just munch on a bunch of the NPCs for the giant XP boosts, I got by well enough with out having to kill anyone. Since you also get XP boosts from completing story missions, side quests, healing NPCs when they're sick and murdering thugs in standard combat. It left me a little bit under-leveled throughout the game, particularly in boss fights, but attack pattern recognition and a lot of patience are the keys to victory in that scenario.

The combat is very Dark Souls-like: melee-centric with light attacks (one hand/off hand weapons), heavy attacks (two-handed weapons), stun damage, parrying, dodging and stamina management, instead of resting at bonfires, you rest in a bed in a hideout which you need to seek out and enemies comeback if you rest or die. However it's not as fluid or as tightly designed as Dark Souls. There's also special vampire attacks that rely on your "blood capacity". Some of them I found effective such as "Blood Cauldron" or "Claws", other I didn't even touch like "Shadow Mist" or "Coagulation".

The dialogue flows a bit weird at times (Tell me more your job, tell me more about this city, tell me more about your relationship with... etc) and it sometimes makes it feel like a bit of drag knowing that this will the help the player get to know the NPC's backstories a little better. It also felt just plain drawn out at other times, especially after boss fights and towards the end of the game. There is a romance aspect of the story, but it feels rather forced and just seems to spring up out of left field.

Overall, I think i can recommend Vampyr at a discount, but less so as a full priced game.

Dr. Jonathan Reid is the brilliant surgeon and powerful vampire you will be playing and you can make him as good or evil as you wish. You can kill ANY four characters and get the 2nd best ending. The real challenge is to kill no one and get the best ending. Once you kill a 5th person you automatically get the 1st bad ending and once you kill a 9th person you will get the worst ending, which involves the doctor being a bloodthirsty monster. In the 'good' endings a particular character survives, but not in the others. However, I've killed up to 16 people and still had all four neighborhoods still up and running at the end of the game. You just have to treat the sick folks right away. I love many of the characters and that's one of the big pluses for me. If you're looking for a good horror game and are fond of vampires in particular, then I think you may really like this one. Expand

You play as a Doctor - someone sworn to protect those who have fallen to the plague - who has become a Vampire, now placed in a bloodthirsty moral dilemma of upkeeping his Hippocratic Oath and saving lives, or satisfying his thirst.

Each scene is crafted with so much affection and attention to detail, with cinematography as beautiful as something you'd see at a Sundance Film Festival. The soundtrack is absolutely incredible. If Vampyr as a game is underrated, then it's an absolute travesty that the soundtrack to this game is not at the forefront of some music in video games award ceremony. The moody, noir style disease-stricken London of post WWI is expertly crafted. It all comes together to create such a unique, powerful ATMOSPHERE that is just hard to describe.

The game perhaps isn't quite for everyone which is where the mixed reviews come in. It requires a lot of investment from the player in order to get the most out of it, it's not something to blindly rush through to get to the ending. Likewise, the combat is far from the most polished system, but it's also far from the main focus, which is the brilliant writing and narrative, coupled with a unique and borderline innovative video game concept of having the choice to kill or spare every single minor or and major NPC in the game.

Without a majority of the characters, the time between the major story beats would be particularly dull without anyone to talk to or side quests to complete. To take the evil path and embrace the vampire side of Jonathan, is to kill what life there is in Vampyr. Although it is important that there are consequences to your actions, some of which do have an immediate impact to the world, there isn’t enough to balance it out and make being evil fun or interesting.
