This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game looks and feels just like the old movie and tv show with Platinum games quick and flowing combat. It's not that long really like 4hrs but the gameplay and story makes up for it. The graphics are great with that 80 's 90 's vibe and voice actors just giving it that old-school flashback. I really feel that only downside to it is the short story and semi-cliffhanger ending for DLC or things down the line. All in all the game is great and should at least be a try if you love Platinum or Transformers. Expand

A great love letter of a game to the fans of G1. It looks beautiful and manages to capture the soul of G1 very well. My only problems are that I wish it just had more content. Both in terms of characters and playtime.

SHORT AND SWEET. That's my definition of Transformers: Devastation based on my experience with it.

Many Game Developers design their games in a way that in order to be completed the player would have to grind through unnecessary missions, levels of story GCI that only makes the game a TASK to play through instead of what it was designed for....FUN....and I'm glad Platinum Games kept this title short and to the point.

It's missing the characterisation and monumental set-piece story moments of the High Moon games and there isn't a great deal of incentive to explore the relatively open levels. All you'll find are loot chests - there aren't any easter eggs or references.

Essentially, it's a game that is all about the action - and that's a mistake Michael Bay made with his films. At least Platinum don't give Rosey Huntington Whitley's derrière more screen time than Wheeljack, or mistake an accent for personality.

I do love how the Decepticon character models so closely resemble their Combiner Wars toys. This makes the game feel like an advert in parts - just like the old cartoon.

    Cons:
    - I went out to challenge mode and tried a couple. It reset my difficulty in the main game.
    - There are some defend Wheeljack missions that are frustrating
    - The achievements for me did not track right
    - Wasn't a big fan of repeated sights of the same enemy
    - Pet peeve is when you have chapters of greatly different lengths. The first chapter had 10+ missions and some of the others only had like 3 or 4

This is not only a top notch Transformers game, but it is also a top notch character action game. Once again platinum proves that they know character action better than any other developer. If you like games like Bayonetta or Metal Gear Rising Revengence than this is the game for you.

However, as to be expected, there are problems with this game; the levels are somewhat bland, and the loot you get is absolute crap. It IS kind of hard to recommend because it costs $50, but it's a good buy if you're looking for a fun, action packed fighter, this is the game for you.

A solid combat system and faithfulness to the source material are sure to make this a blast for the Transformers faithful. Especially for the ones who can tap into nostalgia for the original animated show. Despite having some great mechanics the package as a whole does fall short though thanks to some licensed game trappings.

A solid combat system and faithfulness to the source material are sure to make this a blast for the Transformers faithful. Especially for the ones who can tap into nostalgia for the original animated show. Despite having some great mechanics the package as a whole does fall short though thanks to some licensed game trappings.

Developer PlatinumGames seems to take just the right elements from their acclaimed Bayonetta series here. Combat is fast and furious, and dodging at the right second will trigger a brief slowdown of time adding to the ferocity of your beat down. Combat is definitely the focus here, and it can be very satisfying. It's just unfortunate the rest of the game wasn't given the same flair. Combat against regular enemies is pretty entertaining, but the real fun comes when you are up against the bosses.

Several Autobots are available to be played as. Each with their own style. The differences aren't drastic, but there is enough to distinguish them to make it worth giving them all a shot. A loot and upgrade system are available which make for a way to experiment with different loadouts. Ultimately though it's rather dull to dive into and I found myself just ignoring it all together.

The story mode is a brief, but fun affair. It's about 4 hours long. It's not really a bad thing as it prevents the games flaws from becoming too noticeable. The main issue is simply repetition. It doesn't take long for the combat to settle into a predictable pace. You spend the majority of the game crossing the same territory again and again on your way to the next objective. It's over just before things start to get monotonous, but it's not hard to wish there was a little more going both in length and overall variety.

Outside of the story mode you get challenge maps. They allow you to further enjoy the game's exciting combat system, even if you are just fighting the same enemies you just got done killing over and over again in the campaign. This mode, along with some collectibles to hunt down in the story, add some hidden depth and extra life to this brief experience.

Whether or not the game actually has replay value just comes down to just how much of a Transformers fan you are. Even with multiple difficultly levels, several different Autobots to play as, and some extra tidbits to hunt down, action game fans might find themselves hard-pressed to find real reasons to give the game a second go.

That's not to say this is a bad game though. On the contrary it can be quite fun. It's just that the lack of content and overall budget feel make it feel more suited for a weekend rental as opposed to an action game worth obsessing over. That's not necessarily a bad thing.

The experience is designed to push you from fight to fight as quickly as possible to show off it's strength; an enjoyable combat system. It makes for one of those licensed games that feels created for the sole purpose of just giving fans a quick thrill. It succeeds. The results are a fun, but flawed action game with a lot of Transformers nostalgia to be had. It might not live up to PlatinumGames other titles, but it will make for a solid romp for hardcore fans, and an enjoyable rental for everyone else. Sometimes, that's really all you can ask for.

    I give "Transformers: Devastation" a 7.5/10

Must play for any gen 1 fan. Could have done more as it's very linear and the combat is a little basic but it's more challenging than i expected and plays just like an episode of the early shows. Really enjoyed it.

If you like constant boss battles and nothing else than this would be the perfect game for you. as all this game consists of is one boss fight after the other. This game has no graphic value no plot and no minor enemies to fight. Just one difficult boss battle after the other is all you will get with this game.

The animations are excellent, the voice casting is perfect, and it feels a like a great addition to the current combiner wars toys.
The gameplay may be a little repetitive and the game is quite short, but overall the game shows high quality and is well polished.
I would certainly expect there to be plenty of opportunity for extra characters or further missions by DLC, and would most definitely be interested in a sequel.

FINALLY. A Transformers game with such AWESOME graphics. The art is true to the original cartoons and it feels like I am actually in them. I appreciate this greatly and I was in awe. Truthfully, I was fan-girling over the way this game looked.

The combat was difficult for me to get used to (dodging) but definitely very enjoyable. Hacking and slashing away at Decepticons is a dream.

The combat was difficult for me to get used to (dodging) but definitely very enjoyable. Hacking and slashing away at Decepticons is a dream. However, speaking of Decepticons, you don’t have the ability to play as one. WHY...That is one of the few flaws this game has but that just killed me.

The campaign is typical. Megatron wants to control the Earth, Starscream is a **** Optimus and the Autobots are Earth’s last hope… Same as always. It's a very nice throwback to the good ol' G1 days and I absolutely loved the look and feel of this game. However, I wish more innovation with the campaign was used. Although I wouldn't know how I would do it myself as anything different wouldn't be Transformers.

However, the reason for my 7 is just because I feel like this game suffers though from the ability to replay. These are things I feel like could have been avoided. There are challenges but they just feel tedious and annoying. Not much content.

I wish this game was just a little more than meets the eye.

Sophisticated combo-based combat delivers a fast and furious barrage of action, but the gear and perks systems left me wondering why they were there at all in a game all about over-the-top boss fights and robot dinosaur beatdowns.
