The mix of tower defense and action still works as it did a few years back. But since the premiere of Toy Soldiers a lot of games mixed those elements. And in the end the war chest contains nothing to beat the competition once more. But then again: What you get is quite entertaining.

A good tower defense game, quiet fun and a little different from the usual to enjoy especially in multiplayer.

Toy Soldiers War Chest is the ideal game if you were born in the 80's – 90's, but it has important technical defects and you have to pay for the best contents that the game has.

As it stands fans of the Toy Soldiers games are bound to enjoy the latest outing, and of course those with fond memories of the DLC properties are in for a treat. It is like going back and playing with action figures, which is precisely what the game sets out to do.

Fun but unpolished. That's the bottom line of this particular mix between tower defense and action games, that tries maybe too hard to squeeze our pockets.

I have problems with the way Toy Soldiers: War Chest is packaged, but thankfully it does uphold the same classic focus on strategy and action. You'll have to foot the bill for those costly licenses, but it's mostly worth it, warts and all.

Even if not revolutionary or innovative, Toy Soldiers: War Chest represents a decent - but technically disappointing - new chapter for Ubisoft's action/tower defense hybrid.

It may feel somehow repetitive, but it's a pretty interesting take on the tower defense genre, and it does take us back to a time where you could just simply enjoy a game without worrying too much.

It's still a fair bit of fun. [Nov 2015, p.87]

Toy Soldiers: War Chest is a decent tower defence title but is severely hamstrung by poor performance, dodgy looks, a big old paywall to character content and some odd design decisions.

Toy Soldiers: War Chest is a very disappointing follow-up to two of the best downloadable Xbox 360 games out there. Not only does it run poorly, but it's cheap, convoluted and out for your wallet with unnecessary microtransactions. It's a shame, too, because good things are overshadowed by all of the bad.

War Chest is an incredible disappointment given the strength of the series to this point, and the exciting licences within.

Toy Soldiers: War Chest could really be something great but unfortunately choppy performance, uninspiring missions and a repetitive single player experience put paid to this. The licensed properties present in the game aren't enough elevate the game to anything more than a very workmanlike version of your favourite childhood moments.

Mixing Tower Defense, third person action, and beloved ’80s toys should’ve been a recipe for success, but this bland sequel doesn’t do justice to any of its ideas.

People will not shut up about the pricing when its 15 bucks or more, people do realize you don't have to spend the money right?...The graphics are not the greatest but I ended up spending the 30 bucks to get all the additional packs and I am still happy with my purchase. You do gain money for playing matches and that builds up to spending the cash on basic or deluxe random boxes that improve your army. I played co-op with a friend and had a blast with it, it takes time to manage your strategies but thats what I love, it can be challenging but once you get the feel of the map you can dominate. I especially like the weekly war events they have every week when, once completed, you can get a deluxe pack they show off every week. I think if you want a game that is pick up and play alone or with a buddy and you liked the previous versions of the game, you will not be disappointed. A con that i had was there was no challenge mode like in Cold War, though this is not a huge deal breaker, it would have been nice to see the feature. Full Review »

First thing you notice booting up the game : oh my, the graphics are really last gen, and uneven animations.
Fortunately things get better , with good tower defense gameplay, interesting upgrade mechanics and charming style.
Big plus is the local couch coop and all online multiplayer modes.

Overall i can recommend this title, especially at the budget price it's sold right now ( and probably will drop much more with further psn discount the upcoming months)

The so criticized DLCs are no big deal actually. You can get the core game pretty cheap, and for few extra bucks buy only extra heroes you are interested in .

there is the good bad and ugly but it is still a wonderful game. the game play is great and as expected, with
the new blind box system being superb. However, buying tokens doesn't really need to be there since you can get a minimum of 3,000 coins in one game. Never the less it is still great. another thing is that the cut scenes seem to be choppy and unfinished. with a gradient background could have been replaced with one of the well detailed maps that are this game. Speaking of maps, the multitude of maps in the game are well detailed and have that toy box feel to it.
The DLC in the game is well worth it in my opinion if you grew up with any of the iconic characters and love the greatest assassin that lived, then paying that extra $15 bucks is well worth it. or if you bought the physical copy then it be worth the $30 bucks.
