If you liked the previous games your love this.My only gripe would be that the graphics are very last gen but game play is solid.Toy soldiers war chest is a fine addition to the series.

First thing you notice booting up the game : oh my, the graphics are really last gen, and uneven animations.
Fortunately things get better , with good tower defense gameplay, interesting upgrade mechanics and charming style.
Big plus is the local couch coop and all online multiplayer modes. Overall i can recommend this title, especially at the budget price it's sold right now ( and

The so criticized DLCs are no big deal actually. You can get the core game pretty cheap, and for few extra bucks buy only extra heroes you are interested in .

Don't listen to the poor reviews, I was hesitant about this game too but I love the series. People will not shut up about the pricing when its 15 bucks or more, people do realize you don't have to spend the money right?...The graphics are not the greatest but I ended up spending the 30 bucks to get all the additional packs and I am still happy with my purchase. You do gain money for playing matches and that builds up to spending the cash on basic or deluxe random boxes that improve your army. I played co-op with a friend and had a blast with it, it takes time to manage your strategies but thats what I love, it can be challenging but once you get the feel of the map you can dominate. I especially like the weekly war events they have every week when, once completed, you can get a deluxe pack they show off every week. I think if you want a game that is pick up and play alone or with a buddy and you liked the previous versions of the game, you will not be disappointed. A con that i had was there was no challenge mode like in Cold War, though this is not a huge deal breaker, it would have been nice to see the feature. Expand

So I've never taken notice into the toy soldier franchise until war chest came out so this is from a noobie. For 15$ this game is way worth its asking price even the 30$ for the premium stuff which I bought still felt like 30$. I've also never been into tower defense games until this game. How the game got me is because of it's feeling and design of how you get to control the turrets and hers when guarding your toy box. The campaign is also very cool with each mission being a different unique place although I have not finished the campaign yet so idk. I do also like how you can play online and locally with your friends which I found very cool, and even though there are micro transactions in the game it doesn't feel like a pay to win game. It's also incredibly easy to get into the game because the mechanics are so simple yet feel so awesome. However there were some flaws in the game, such as in the opening tutorial when I summoned my hero (which I found to be the coolest part in the game) there was a huge frame rate drop but so far later in the game I haven't encountered anymore drops. Another thing I found annoying is that when I went to the pack store after doing a mission it says I've got 999,999,999 coins and the game is frozen. My other complaint is ubisoft's **** selling practice of this game. I felt really discouraged after buying the 15$ game that if I wanted to use the cool armies such assassins creed brotherhood, gi joe, cobra or he-man that means I would have to spend another 15$. One last thing to acknowledge is that if you are a hardcore tower defense player you ay find that there's not enough stuff for you but it is 30$ and I felt that it was worth it. So overall this game is incredibly fun and has a lot of cool unique features however there is meat on the bone but not a ton of it. Expand

iv'e been waiting for this installation of this game since i tried it out at the GameStop expo2014.

Never the less it is still great. another thing is that the cut scenes seem to be choppy and unfinished. with a gradient background could have been replaced with one of the well detailed maps that are this game. Speaking of maps, the multitude of maps in the game are well detailed and have that toy box feel to it.
The DLC in the game is well worth it in my opinion if you grew up with any of the iconic characters and love the greatest assassin that lived, then paying that extra $15 bucks is well worth it. or if you bought the physical copy then it be worth the $30 bucks.

There are multiple factions you can play as who differ in both looks and gameplay. There is a single player mode that is essentially a wave survival mode where you oversee a defensive position, but can also commandeer any of the turrets or the occasional vehicle/hero character (both work in the same way gameplay wise with both a health bar and timer limiting your use. The differences being that vehicles will respaw after 2 minutes while Hero characters are tied to you directly killing units.. It doesnt get as repetitive as you would think due to the creative environments and changing enemy factions. As you progress and beat missions you get coins that you can spend in the shop to unlock new units/upgrades to your turrets.

There are quite a few different armies to play as. WW1 Germans, Futuristic Space marines, and a few others, as well as some recognizable franchises such as GI Joe, He Man, Cobra and Assassins Creed 2 teams. I've only played as the first two so far and both are very different. IE, the Germans artillery has a longer range but the space marines have better anti-air guns.

I'm interested in the franchise armies but they are seemingly locked behind a pay wall. I'm not anti-micro transactions or anything. But paying 1/3 of the price of the whole game for a single team isn't thrilling me I'm assuming that the $30 dollar version has all of that included, so if you are willing to put in a bit extra up front go with that one.

The armies all have different visuals and gameplay tweaks. But they all play the same. You get limited number of spaces to build turrets, consisting of anti infantry/vehicle/air and an artillery gun. All of these units can have their health/attack/range upgraded up to 3 times. Although all of the upgraded above the first one are locked at the beginning they are quickly unlocked by playing.

There are a few negatives. The AI on the non player controlled cannons are usually ok for handling their own unless they're overwhelmed, and they will target units that are closer to your base. But occasionally they'll let some units walk on by while it targets a unit in the back of the group, as well as occasionally not firing at full capacity (a group of units will be nearby and the gun will occasionally pause and stand there, I'm aware of the guns needing to reload, which happens, but occasionally I'll notice a gun acting weird).

Another issue is that despite having good visuals, some units, especially planes can be really hard to find, the worst case being on the space level or airplanes flying against a similarly colored background, the characters are given bright colors to stand out but especially when there's a lot going on it can be real hard to figure out what's happening.

Another issue I have is that while most campaign levels are really well designed, there are a couple that I really didn't care for. Eventually I figured out most of them although the one I am presently stuck on is proving to be more frustrating then being a genuine challenge.

One last thing that kinda bugs me is that the hit detection in this game isn't great. Even when targeting enemy towers I've had my shots go right through due to being at an odd but not really that difficultnof an angle. Probably the worst case I've had has been trying to shoot down airplanes from my own plane. There is a degree of challenge with air vs air combat, but even when you take leading your targets and such into account it still feels like your shots are not registering when they should.

I haven't played any multiplayer at this point.

If you're a fan of tower defense games this is definitely worth picking up. It has it's problems, but none of them get in the way of having a good time.

TS War Chest is a fun game. The addition of a wider variety of armies and upgrades definitely adds to the Toy Soldiers formula. More of a grand strategy or fps gamer, but I love this game. A great blend of game types. Not taxing on the brain nor does it fire up the twitch reflexes but a great way to relax. Highly recommended for the whole family.

Couldn’t even play the game. I got it for the GI joe and he man characters. Wasted 25 dollars on a game that didn’t even load. Go back in and this time click play tutorial instead of skipping that. That gets me to the actual game. I play the first mission and it’s not that great, but it’s okay. I click to exit because I want to play multiplayer and it sticks me on the home screen again, unable to do anything. So to actually play this game. I have to delete my save data each time and can’t get to multiplayer or I get frozen. So each time I want to play, I have to erase all my data. That point I said “forget it” and returned it. Can Ubisoft make a game without bugs for once? Expand

Toy Soldiers: War Chest is a decent tower defence title but is severely hamstrung by poor performance, dodgy looks, a big old paywall to character content and some odd design decisions.

Toy Soldiers: War Chest could really be something great but unfortunately choppy performance, uninspiring missions and a repetitive single player experience put paid to this. The licensed properties present in the game aren't enough elevate the game to anything more than a very workmanlike version of your favourite childhood moments.
