It's gorgeous to look at but this is one of the most boring games I've ever played.

I wanted to love this game, and for moments I did. But for the love of god, some of the everlasting glitches are just too much to bear (no pun intended).

    1. The controls are way too clunky.
They put the useless 'camera' button on the most important button on the entire controller - dumb! 'Jump' is the same button as 'activate' - dumb!
'Investigate animal call' is the same button as 'investigate animal tracks' which always gets in the way - dumb!
I shouldn't have to fumble around between 3 guns & 5 animal calls while I'm already jumping off my quad with 0.7 seconds left to shoot the buck in front of me. The controls should flow way better than they do.

    2. The quick menu is complete crap. It has to be the worst setup I've ever seen, honestly. Why isn't anything labeled? I can't tell the difference between any of the animal calls. Would a weapon-wheel / pie graph-styled menu be so hard to make?!!

    3. You cant see what's in your hands when you're laying prone. First I can't see which lure I choose in the quick menu, and then I can't see what I'm physically holding in my hands after I've picked it - god this is stupid...

    4. The game literally kicks you out to the main menu, erasing all your current progress along with it, if your controller batteries randomly die and you try to use a separate controller in its place. No warning, just a one-way ticket to having your time completely wasted. If this isn't the stupidest glitch on earth then I don't know what is. There's only 1 thing in the world that's dumber - the fact that they haven't fixed it yet!

    5. When I turn on the game and load the Hirschfelden map, the game loads to the very beginning stage of Hirschfelden instead of my last played area, and it also doesn't show any of my unlocked areas whatsoever. This glitch forces the average person to wander around aimlessly without an ATV until they finally give up and turn the game off. Luckily for me I learned that if you exit the level and then load back into it it'll fix this problem.

    6. The game is currently being sold as "Hunter: Call of the Wild 2019 edition" but its really just the exact same old version with 2 DLC levels included for twice the price. Horrendous marketing scam if you ask me. You're better off buying a second-hand copy and then buying the $8 DLC levels separately.

The only reason I'm giving this game a 3 is because of the amazing scenic nature & vast selection of realistic wildlife. The audio/visual is amazing on my 82" 4k 7.1 setup If this game had more funding and they had more time to fix the problems then this game could be one of the great titles of this generation. When this game was first released it was a steaming pile of unplayable trash due to all the glitches, and things are still far from perfect.

I tried playing this game on PC and really the vision was a problem so I got it on console so I could play it on the big TV. Thinking that would make a difference in the face that I thought the game stunk. Well, it didn't make much of a difference. After about 15 hours on PC and console I've killed a total of 3 does, one coyote, and two rabbits. Now you might wonder, how did I get the Expert Marksman achievement very early in the game. Because I shot a lot of stuff! They just wouldn't die. I shot many, many animals. When I found the blood trails, it would always, always say very light bleeding. LIke clockwork. They just wouldn't go down. So I went on Youtube to watch tutorials. And I bought a DLC just to get the 30. 06 rifle. And loaded it with hollow points. And I still couldn't bring a moose down! I shot one square middle and it wouldn't go down. Blood yeah. Kill no. And tracking wounded animals in this game is futile. They never stop moving, they never bleed out and you will never see them. In that tutorial the guy was spotting all these animals, and I wondered, how is he doing that? He was showing large herds of deer with multiple bucks. Higher level animals. I never saw any of that. No large group of deer. Not ever. And the tutorial instructor said the animals are really not that skittish. Are you kidding me? They're skittish as hell. I want a hunting game in which you are actually allowed to kill the game if you watch the wind and crouch like I did. I used prone, I used cover, I don't know what else I can do but quit. I can't believe I wasted my money on this. I should have seen a red flag when all the PC game commentators who rave about this game say in a chorus "If you have a lot of patience." Patience, right. A huge, huge ton of patience. The kind you need to walk around the woods holding your controller for 4 hours with out being able to harvest an animal. The hunting in Red Dead Redemption 2 was too easy and the hunting in this game is far too hard. They needed an easy mode in this game that provided more animals. Having no easy, regular, and hard mode system was really stupid. Many, many people will quit this game in the first two or three hours. And the controls! Why do they have that stupid camera function cluttering it up? It's hard to toggle through from binoculars to your rifle in quick fashion. Many times animals got away because I couldn't toggle in time. And what about the calling? I called and called and think maybe a bear one time came. The deer, moose, and rabbits completely ignored calls. I decided to throw in the towel on this one and eat the $35 when I shot a moose right between the eyes at 30 meters with a hollow point from my 30.06 and it ran away. And had "light bleeding." Expand

The game is gorgeous but the hunting aspect is made really bad. Stealth is useless, you will be better off just sprinting around until you see something and don't expect to be able to kill anything bigger than a rabbit with the starting guns. I couldn't kill a deer with 4 shots (1 being in the head) plus none of the vital organs were hit. Beautiful game, bad mechanics.

It would be wonderful if Expansive Worlds would sell this franchise to a developer who had competent coders and programmers that could help this game live up to it's full potential. I don't know if the developers of CotW are just really bad at game development and lack the technical know-how to fix this game, or if they just don't care. This game has been out on the Xbox One for 2 years now and it's still a buggy mess. This isn't anywhere near polished enough to be a full release. It should still be in early access. The idiots running the show at Expansive Worlds have managed to release 3 DLC maps for $8 a piece but seem unable to fix the menu's, the stat -tracking, the collision detection, hit-boxes, frame drops, and just an overall poorly performing game. This is on an Xbox One X. Earlier I was in a game and after shooting a moose the game slowed down to 1-frame a second. This wasn't a temporary thing, either. It persisted until I quit out of the game. There is no excuse for a game being in this state after 2 years. I don't care how small the team behind it is, which I believe is the excuse they give. The team's large enough to produce DLC therefore it should be large enough to fix this broken mess of a game. Expand

theHunter: Call of the Wild isn’t for everyone. It takes a lot of patience and can be impenetrable for those without experience in hunting simulators. But for those with the grit to push through the steep learning curve, this game is quite possibly the best hunting game of all time. If you’re curious about it, I highly recommend giving it a go.

A very good hunting sim, with great graphics and a deep and realistic gameplay, both in single and multiplayer. We would have liked more environments/maps to hunt on, but it's definitely a game to buy for lovers of this genre.

The Hunter: CotW drops most of the arcade style and replaces it with a slower paced, more realistic hunt. At first, I thought this would limit the audience to a more narrow scope of player. That is, until my 9-year-old daughter quit playing Minecraft, sat down next to me and asked, “Can I play?” Since then, she has logged more time playing than I have.
