There is absolutely nothing of interest here. Don't waste your time with The Deer God. graphics are so pixelated that you can't tell what your looking at. there's no clear goal, no reason to solve puzzles, no reason to care or continue playing. Just run, jump (blindly), fall into trap, die, then repeat. Absolutely worthless.

So I had a go with this months free Games With Gold game. I was skeptical at first but I was willing to have a go and see what this game had to offer. Oh boy was I right about this one. This really is the worst game I have played in years, maybe even the worst of all time. There is supposed to be platforming in it but the only thing I experienced is running to the right side of the screen en waiting to be attacked by some random animal (I think) or fall to my death. The story is awful and although I'm already not a fan of pixelated art this is so bad you can't even tell the difference between stuff (other reviewers mention the same so it's not my perception). I highly recommend to skip this one or try it and let everyone know this is a product that should be ashamed to get the title "game". Expand

This game is absolutely awful. The graphics are so pix-elated that it's hard to determine if an object is an edible plant or a frog that somehow is able to hurt the main character. It has puzzles that make no sense and you don't even have to "solve" them. Just keep galloping to the right and move about your business. This game is free this month and it's not even worth that. Thinking about sending a bill to the published charging them for playing it. Don't bother with this one. Expand

Ugh. I really, REALLY hated this game. It's ugly, it's got broken controls, it's got an incredibly trite story (what little there is is basically The Shaggy Dog/Brother Bear/Willy the Sparrow), and it's just chock full of nonsensical mechanics. Not only is this part of an oversaturated genre, nothing else about this game works. Free is too heavy a price.

    GAMEPLAY

Basic sidescrolling platformer, just not done very well. You're provided with a variety of items throughout the game that are often useless or don't even work right when used. When you die you will sometimes transform into another animal but only as a punishment. Then you have to die again before you can continue the story. This is a questionable gameplay element that just wastes time.

    SOUND
The music mostly helps to set the tone of the game but feels off at times, seeming to struggle for identity.

    GRAPHICS
The 3D pixelated world looks fairly pleasant but quickly loses its luster. It can be difficult at times to interpret interactive objects in the world, especially at the start before you familiarize yourself with it.

    ENTERTAINMENT
It starts okay but then does little to motivate you to keep playing. Poor gameplay ideas, mediocre platforming and a strewed story make this game one I'd rather pass up.

Cette espèce de "jeu" me fait penser à l'art contemporain : un sale con se met à chier un étron et souvent, trop souvent, un troupeau de mange-boules vient applaudir à tout rompre. A decent platform adventure, but one that struggles with its identity.

Glorious art is a feast for the eyes, but if you've ever played a platformer, you won't be able to shake the feeling you've seen this all before. [Nov 2015, p.80]

A peculiar and unique title, with a skillful mix of platform, roguelike, rpg, survival and puzzle elements and a very effective artistic design.
