Jul 4, 2018In all, The Crew 2 is a big step forward for the series and does its best to right the wrongs of the original. Take the time to learn the ins and outs here and you will have a game that gives you hours and hours of enjoyment.
-
Jul 13, 2018I'll be the first to admit that I was not a fan of the original Crew racing game, but Ubisoft's team went to work and developed a racing game that is so addictive that it should be considered a controlled substance. Despite some flaws and hiccups along the way, The Crew 2 is poised to cement itself as the definitive arcade racing experience on any platform.
-
Jul 1, 2018The Crew 2 transforms America into a high speed sandbox with unmatched variety. Terrorize New York’s West Side Highway? Check. Buzz the Pentagon in a prop plane? Check. Leave tread marks in New Mexico desert? Check. There’s a lot to do here, and it feels great to do it, particularly for casual racing fans, while sim fans who want to just chill out and go fast in their home city will also enjoy themselves. The Crew 2’s minor flaws could easily be ironed out with a few quality of life patches.
-
Jun 29, 2018The Crew 2 repeats its formula to expand the limits to new opportunities. Now we can travel across United States by land, sea or air, offering many activities, races and ways to live and enjoy the speed. It's not perfect because of its physics and technical issues on Xbox One. Regardless, it gives you the experience you need in each moment.
-
Jul 10, 2018The crew 2 outshines its predecessor with a remarkable arcade-ish nature, that is not necessarily very unique or original. The new cars and variety of events blends to make it a very enjoyable and fun game that will drive us around the entire United States for a while.
-
Jul 5, 2018Whatever you decide to do, it’s easy to just hop into the game and have a spin - or a splash or a woosh! What comes to the comparison I presented in the beginning, Forza Horizon 3 (and not to mention its upcoming sequel) might be clinically prettier but it lacks something The Crew 2 has; charisma. Overly serious big games don’t often allow having much fun nowadays, so it’s refreshing to see a title that is built around it.
-
Jul 3, 2018The racing itself is reasonably good as are the graphics – despite them having a lot of little flaws. The sound design is solid, but the soundtrack lacks any soul and that holds true for the voice work. Still, it’s a fun time and fans of many kinds of racing will find something to enjoy.
-
Jul 2, 2018Basically, no matter what floats your boat, there’s a good chance that The Crew 2 has it. And that’s why I can’t help but love it. Warts and all.
-
Jul 1, 2018The Crew 2 is much bigger and much better than its predecessor. It’s not perfect by any means, but it does tick many of the boxes that it desperately needed to, nevertheless. Issues with the lack of map engagement and the T-800 AI to the side, The Crew 2 offers a robust and gorgeously detailed racing experience. It’s accessible, fairly deep, well rounded and thoroughly entertaining, for the most part.
-
Jul 6, 2018As an arcade racer you’ll get quite a bit of fun out of The Crew 2, thanks to plenty of vehicles and the various race types as well as challenges. The open world on the other hand is only little more than an empty shell.
-
Jul 18, 2018Taking an American muscle car at 300 km/h along a gorge, falling hopelessly into the void and ending up maneuvering gracefully an aircraft in an instant is a pleasant driving experience that is rarely seen in the racing genre; but it's just one of the many activities that The Crew 2 has prepared. It’s a game you either love or hate; while fun and accessible, not all of its elements shine as it could.
-
Jul 5, 2018The Crew 2 is a two-sided experience: on one side we've got a lot of events with unique situations in the racer landscape and a huge open world, while on the other we've got a game lacking sense of challenge and progression, with shoddy characters and cut-scenes. Our hopes for the game reside in an hopefully strong post-launch support.
-
Jul 2, 2018The Crew 2 won’t be seen as a game that defines the genre, but it’s definitely one that adds fun and variety to it, and even if you’re not a hardcore racing fan. It’s worth checking out.
-
Jun 30, 2018The Crew 2 invents nothing, and excels at nothing. But it’s a huge mix of many fun and cool things to do, served by an amazingly big open-world turned into a sandbox for grown-up kids.
-
Jun 29, 2018Quotation forthcoming.
-
Jun 29, 2018A better game than The Crew was but still a few steps behind the Horizon Series, despite its variety of vehicles.
-
Jul 3, 2018In the end the fact that most of the different disciplines are fun to play, outweigh the shortcomings. Which makes The Crew 2 a fun, scrappy, but not all that essential arcade racer. If it could somehow reign in the insanity and shortcomings, while providing a real reason to drive around and explore the impressive open-world U.S.A. - especially in co-op – then it could become something special.
-
Jul 6, 2018The Crew 2 is a fun arcade racer, but it covers too much, lacking quality in some aspects related to gameplay and variety.
-
Jul 29, 2018The Crew 2 did a good job on improving the original game. It's a little bit more of everything, and the new road/sea/air feature offers a lot of fun and variety. Some new race categories are much better than others however (the bike races are particularly bad), and the driving controls are still basic compared to what we can expect from a 2018 racing game.
-
Jul 17, 2018The racing on offer in The Crew 2 is fun and there are a wide variety of different events and vehicles that will keep you entertained. For some genre fans, that may be enough, but sadly, it’s a game that feels like a jack of all trades and a master of none. Throw in some odd design choices, a dull story, and lukewarm presentation and The Crew 2 is an ambitious game that doesn’t achieve its potential, nor does it approach the standard of some other open-world racers available today.
-
Jul 10, 2018The Crew 2 is an ambitious undertaking that puts over-the-top arcade racing front and center. Though it makes large strides in the right direction over its predecessor, it suffers from odd game design choices, a lack of PvP, and a lackluster presentation that puts it squarely in the rearview mirror of its competition.
-
Jun 29, 2018Ubisoft should be rewarded for its ambition, but ultimately ambition has translated into an overly busy experience that's got a little too much going on.
-
Jun 29, 2018The Crew 2 is big, confident, and stuffed with arcade racing action – land, sea, and air. There’s undoubtedly something still charming about a racing game that lets us drive an F1 car across the Golden Gate bridge, fly a Spitfire through the Grand Canyon, and crash a monster truck through Central Park, but its uneven presentation, lack of events that use its best features, and absent PvP is a bummer.
-
Jul 11, 2018In a way The Crew 2 is a better game from the old, but in another way, it is also very much the same flawed racer. There is a lot of good here: open world, four racing types, huge customization, and tons of races. However, as a racing game, you’d do better with Mario Kart.
-
Jul 3, 2018The Crew 2 has a lot of potential, but its great graphics and sound design don’t make up for its lack of content, lack of online multiplayer and weak AI. Maybe it’ll get better via monthly updates as the previous version did, but at the moment, The Crew 2 is not so superior to its predecessor.
-
Jul 3, 2018The Crew 2 feels like a missed opportunity for Ubisoft after what was a decent start for the franchise in 2014. It’s a racing game with some interesting ideas, but the new main additions frankly aren’t entertaining enough and there’s too much of a focus on quantity over quality.
-
LEVEL (Czech Republic)Dec 31, 2018A slightly above average arcade racer with a giant map that unfortunately brings more trouble than benefits. Dynamic switching of vehicles is funny, but it is unable to cover up the unfinished work. [Issue#288]
-
CD-ActionOct 25, 2018I rarely had fun playing The Crew 2 and usually after 20 minutes tops my mind was drifting away towards anything more enjoyable (e.g. Forza Horizon 3, which is a better game in every way possible). Once again the developers bit more than they could chew, putting quantity above quality. Yes, there are 250 licensed machines and you can switch between them instantly, but there’s no joy in driving or flying them in the huge but empty and boring world. Plus the AI is very poor and the career mode did little to keep me playing. [09/2018, p.52]
-
Official Xbox Magazine UKAug 18, 2018An ambitious but watered-down racing experience that rarely satisfies. [Sept 2018, p.92]
-
Jul 2, 2018The Crew 2 lacks its own purpose and identity, as though it’s magpie’d many excellent features but stitched them together in a way that doesn’t yet make sense...Despite the bolstered vehicular options and the novelty of beaching a boat in Central Park, sadly there’s just not enough here to keep you on the starting grid.
-
Jun 29, 2018Other than brief moments, no part of The Crew 2 is captivating enough, including the rubberband-based gameplay, the events themselves, and the overall setup of the open world.
-
Jun 27, 2018I found myself struggling to “get” it, worried I was some degree of incompetent or something. But the more I thought about it, the more I feel like The Crew 2 doesn’t get itself, either. It wants so desperately to be an open world experience that can seamlessly become race-like events in a games as service-like multiplayer setting. But we just aren’t there yet, so the races exist in pocket universes where you and some friends can battle the computer or you can go it alone. Either way, you’re just grinding for the sake of it.
-
Jun 27, 2018Jack of all trades, master of none. The Crew 2 is ultimately a more enjoyable experience than the first game, but one that also buckles under its own ambition.
-
Jul 6, 2018The Crew 2 offers a wealth of varied content to undertake in a huge open world, but the entire experience is shackled by too many gameplay and design annoyances, with hastily borrowed mechanics that never really come together.
-
Jul 23, 2018Even though it makes some steps forward, The Crew 2 doesn’t offer much beyond wandering aimlessly and stumbling across landmarks. The variety of vehicle types removes any barriers on where you can go, and the creative racing scenarios keep things somewhat interesting. However, these strengths are overpowered by the annoying dialogue, pointless features, and considerable lack of challenge. Stats are king of the road in The Crew 2. Racing skill is supplanted by thoughtless RPG mechanics, and before long, it all just feels like going through the motions.
-
Jul 5, 2018Is The Crew 2 an improvement on the original? Without a doubt, yes. Should Forza Horizon be worried? Nope. The improvements made to this sequel and its unique take on racing are let down by lack of improvements where it counts, and some design choices that left me scratching my head. Thankfully, Ubisoft have really set their stall out when it comes to supporting their games over long periods of time, so there may still be some hope. If you are looking for something to tide you over while you wait for Forza Horizon 4, sure you do worse than pick this game up. But I would recommend waiting on a price cut first.
-
Jun 29, 2018It’s not bad, but it lacks imagination outside of the singular gimmick that you can change vehicles at any time, and ends up just being rather average.
