Despite this game lacking a true single player campaign, the multiplayer is where it shines. The dedicated servers work flawlessly putting you in game within seconds. The weapon variety is scarce but sets up for an improved sequel with more customization characters and weapons.

The game is beautiful and runs great. Don't let the "0" ratings scare you away.

EA thieves. They are divided into two the game, to charge around 120 euros. battlefront 2 was more complete and more entertaining. I'm sorry. You betrayed the name battlefront.

I was not going to buy this game because to me it almost looked like Titanfall, which I very quickly got bored of. But I bought it only because my friends were getting it so I figured it actually might be fun since I will have buddies to play with.
So far I have around 10 hour experience with it so you can trust my judgement or not. So, to begin with, I'll admit that the game is cool, but

So far I have around 10 hour experience with it so you can trust my judgement or not. So, to begin with, I'll admit that the game is cool, but thats about it. It has great graphics, fun gameplay, and very little content. I always love to play story modes... not in this game. There are very few maps, very few weapons, very few heroes/villains (only 6). So i pretty much just started playing the game but I'm already starting to get bored of it. While i thought this game cant be worse than Titanfall, I'd like to say that it actually is. Titanfall in my taste had too little content but Battlefront is just way too minimal. It's a cool experience, like I said before, but not worth the money for sure. I'd rather recommend you going to these gamecenters where u play all day for some $$$, choose x1 and have fun with Battlefront for one day, and after that you can put a nice green check next to that title

Not really sure how this game has unfavorable reviews, when I absolute love this game. Don't get me wrong, the single player could be made better. Like, if they let you make your own matches. The multiplayer, that is so fun. The gameplay and graphics are amazing. Truly a masterpiece!

I was going to buy this game however after playing it at a friends house and seeing how very little content there is I'm not going to. I mean the game-play is fun for each time you try 1 of the 4 main maps but after you're bored with this there isn't anything to do. The single-player consists of a wave based shooter which isn't a game-mode at all.

I have never been so disappointed with a game in my life. I should have known, typical EA.

I'm glad I managed to play on the full game before buying as I would have got the season pass bundle confident in it being the best game of the year because of how awesome the battlefront series is! This is certainly not battlefront at all

I've dodged an expensive bullet here, I recommend you do the same

    "The EA Strikes Again"

Another example of a big name company building a fantastic platform then stripping the final product down to bare bones so they can scalp the complete experience to us through later DLC's. Imagine a kindergartener being given a 64 count box of new crayons. Now watch them open the box only to find the yellows and pinks included. That pretty much sums up the deal

Am I ever glad my local Gamestop allowed me to swap this title with another $60 of my choice. This game is bad. Like most of the merchandise being pumped out in anticipation of the new movie, this game is no exception.

When I saw Dice was signed on to make this, I expected a great shooter. This was the bait. The game itself looks pretty, the game sounds fantastic, minus the character's voices. The game itself is simply not worth the $60 price tag.

First off, there is no single player campaign. None. There's a "survival" mode, which is a slow paced 15 wave game where you must fend off the worst AI controlled Bots in the Galaxy. There's a vehicle training mode, and a "Head to head" mode where you can duel heroes with 1 friend or against the same clunky AI.

Speaking of clunky, the vehicle controls and soldier movement is clunky and awful. Tie Fighters handle like a shopping cart, and alot of the ground environment requires you to jump over the smallest rocks/inclines, especially on the Endor map.

The actual combat is forgettable. If you encounter more than 1 enemy at any given time, unless you kill them with an explosive, you wont win, even if they're lined up. The reason being is the weapons you get, yes, all of them, have no penetration, like in other shooters like Call of Duty or Battlefield.

The spawn system is beyond awful. This was brought up in the beta, and the devs did nothing about it. I had times where I spawned (not on my team mate, mind you) and died within 3 seconds of spawning. I've also had enemies spawn with their backs to me. I should also point out that there's NOTHING to prevent enemies from sitting in your spawn, or even going behind it and attacking you as you spawn.

The shooting itself is very casual. Outside the Heavy Blasters, which are basically Light Machine Guns in any other shooter, no weapon has enough recoil to make a difference. The weapons really differ in range, fire rate, and damage. Most of these don't matter, because primary weapons all take atleast 2 shots to someone's head for a kill, 3-5 to the chest, and more for limbs.

The map choices aren't enough to keep you interested. They took iconic maps, like Hoth, Endor and Tattooine, and made 2 maps of eac, plus two for Mustaafar (sp?). That's 8 maps, that are actually small, unless on walker assault, where they actually allow you to play the entire levels as they should've done.

Heroes are obnoxious. Granted they're meant to be stronger than the typical trooper, the fact that it literally takes over 100 shots to kill one is insane. Coupled with the heroes' 1 hit kill abilities (Vader's Sabre toss, Leia's move that literally lets you 1 hit kill storm troopers, Luke's Sabre charge), they become frustrating to encounter. The Millennium Falcon and Slave I in the fighter mode are just as over powered, in terms of health and damage output.

Power ups (special items, heroes, Fighter/AT-ST controls) tend to spawn in the open, and most dangerous places. Should you manage to get your X-Wing power up, guess what, the tie fighters in the sky can literally shoot you down as you zone in with the fighter before you can even move. That's right. You can die before you can fire back, or even try to take evasive maneuvers.

The final icing on this cake is the DLC. $50 for the season pass. That's essentially buying another title. $50 for...what? Maybe 6 maps, new heroes (from episode 7), and more guns that are mediocre? No thanks.

As this game stands, I can NOT recommend it. There are plenty of other shooters that offer more to gamers than this title. I'm beyond thankful Gamestop let me return this.

I played the beta and enjoyed a few hours of it. Unfortunately, the full game was very sparse feeling. With only 11 guns and 4 maps for the large 20v20 games, it's pretty disappointing. The combat is just so-so, but the real issue lies in the lack of content. There just isn't enough, at least for me.

i can see why alot of people dont like this game (lack of content, lack of story etc but in my opinion i think its a solid game that will be used as a stepping stone for the sequel, if there is one. The graphics and Multiplayer are very good but if EA werent so stingy and also listened to their fans they would have made a game that everybody loved

This game had so much potential but has been let down by far too many issues.

The biggest let down is the volume of content. EA chose not to include a single player story line. Granted, the original Battlefront games didn't have the most in depth story modes, but they were there for when you didn't want to go up against other players. This game had so much potential but has been let down by far too many issues.

The biggest let down is the volume of content. EA chose not to include a single player story line. Granted, the original Battlefront games didn't have the most in depth story modes, but they were there for when you didn't want to go up against other players. Making the decision not to include story mode even worse is the fact that there actually isn't that much content in the game. Sure, there are quite a few different game modes, but they're on the same small handful of maps. Which get boring very fast.

The main battle mode, Supremacy, loosely follows on from the the original Battlefront, but taking over command points no longer gives a team any form of tactical advantage like it did in the originals. Gone are the days when taking over a command point actually meant you were weakening the other side.

Further to that, most of the objectives don't have any real effect in the game. If you shoot down shuttles in squadron mode (or protect them) you get no bonus to the team score. This means everyone will ignore the objectives as staying alive is more important. this kills a lot of the immersion that objective based play can provide.

In a very surprising move, EA has removed the concept of character classes. Gone are the snipers, heavy weapons officers and pilots. Instead, EA has chosen a one size fits all approach where any soldier can choose any unlocked weapon, and visual differences are completely cosmetic. Instead of making the characters more exciting and interesting to play it makes the characters become more and more dull with each play. Also, speaking of cosmetic changes, stormtroopers can play without their iconic helmets. Whilst only a cosmetic change, it seriously kills the immersion of fighting against the faceless machine that is the Empire.

EA has also removed vehicle spawn points. There are plenty of vehicles sitting in the levels, you just can't get in them. Instead, vehicles are random pickups that when activated make your character fade from the battlefield and appear in the vehicle. I can't begin to describe how much this grates on my nerves. It introduces an element of luck that can seriously sway the tide of the battle. If your team isn't lucky with the vehicle drops (and it's happened to my team a number of times) then your team is at a huge disadvantage.

Heroes, like Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, are likewise randomly dropped. And likewise, it can hurt your team's chances when they just don't drop.

The introduction of pure fighter mode interested me. Until I played it. The control system is so incredibly simplified to the point of stupidity. Instead of handling like a fighter should it handles like a car that can go up and down. The fighters also turn so sharply that all believability is left at the game lobby. The sharpness of the turns means that instead of you skilfully lining up your target to kill them you just point your ship in the general direction of your target and wait for target lock to kick in. As with ground mode, there are two heroes that can be picked up but thankfully these drop frequently.

Apart from pretty graphics and the fact that it's Star Wars this game has very little going for it. Mindless battle after battle with no endgame in sight gets tiring, plus the lack of content that EA has promised to fill after you pay for DLC leaves a nasty taste in my mouth. It's such a shame that Battlefront 2, a game that's 10 years old, is better than this one. EA has released The Phantom Menace of the Star Wars games.

Those of you who love to snipe, well this isn't the game for you. There are two snipers but they come in the form of star cards and so only can be used a couple times a match.

This game really brings out the old battelfront players. So those of you who are new to the series, it will take you a while to get used to it. Those of you who are call of duty players coming to this game, you are not going to be able to just slide in and dominate the battelfront. So all you see is a few multiplayer variations. Some of which are very similar and provide very few new experiences. Instead of a story mode they chose to include a survival gametype. This simply does not make up for not having an adequate single player experience. The gameplay is beautiful, but without anything to keep you hooked, its' value is basically neutralized. Star Wars Battlefront is a pathetic attempt to recreate the glorious original Battlefront games that have now been out for years. Fans have now been for 10 years and what they get is a few hours of intense gameplay with almost no replay value. This game may be worth its' value in about 4 or 5 months when it costs $25, until then, save your money.

Also the first dlc that will be released will have about the same amount of game that is in the game right now. When it's all said and done, you will likely have spent at least $120 bucks on this game. The funny thing is I can't even check the spoilers box for this review because, quite simply, there is nothing to spoil!

The atmosphere really does it's job of pulling you into the experience. The mechanics are solid and it feels nice in that slightly-less-tight-than-COD way Dice games share. I found it easy to jump into and understand. The vehicles do seem to be on more of a curve than Battlefield, but im not ready to write that off as bad controls vs. me sucking. The card system allows for some depth, but overall the options are fairly shallow. Rather than destroy the experience, i feel that this keeps things simple and ensures everyone is basically competitive even if the other guy has more unlocks.

Game balance is still in issue. Rebels own Endor, just like imperials owned hoth in the beta. I havent played enough matches yet to see if DICE adjusted from the beta but even as is, it fits narratively, adding to the sense of victory when your team pulls it off.

Plenty of modes. I havent even touched them all yet. Search a wiki or preview for more info. Without a single player campaign proper (which honestly would have looked a lot like what we got anyway..multiplayer maps with terrible AI and boss fights against heroes), and lackluster progression, having a variety of modes is most likely what will carry this game after the initial shine wears off.

Well, that and the expansive season pass. Ive seen complaints in other reviews, and i wonder how someone can be so mad when the content hasnt been revealed yet, and we dont know the breadth of it. I guess this argument comes down to whether or not you believe the game AS IS NOW, justifies 60 bones. And to answer that, you have to ask how much it is worth to you to play out your star wars fantasies on the most faithful recreation of this universe to date. The aesthetics simply cant be argued in regards to their faithfulness to the source. If geeking out of being on the ground in these iconic (and one new) scenes sounds at all appealing, then you are already there.

There are lots of negative reviews. Some of them bring up some very valid points. Look at what these guys say, take out the entitlement and sentiments of those who havent played the game (they are basically reviewing a bulletpoint list they saw on reddit or gamestop) and if whats left sounds appealing...see you on the battlefront.

-THIS IS NOT BATTLEFRONT 3 from a decade ago. A lot of negative reviews harp on this point. That game had two predecessors and years for the developer to build on their engine. This is a great start for EA in Battlefront universe and all of those features people are whining about not having that was supposed to be in 3 may come about down the road in the franchise but the lack of features that were in development for a game that never came out in 2008 doesn't take anything away from this game and is well worth your investment.
-Controls are smooth and responsive, flight takes a little getting used to but once you get it it's so much fun. This game features the best Star Wars flying experience since Rouge Squadron.
-Visuals are beautiful EA DICE went above and beyond with their modeling one of the best looking games for this console generation thus far.
-Sound is absolutely amazing. This is what really factors into the immersion I mentioned earlier. From laser blasts to the sound of a tie-fighter's engine they absolutely nailed it.
-The lack of a single player campaign is somewhat disappointing, but they are various single player missions available to help you get used to the controls. These missions are fun and can be challenging. I still haven't mastered the speeder bike yet though. I just wish there were more of them.
-Maps are designed reasonably well again just wish there were more of them. There will be plenty of DLC around for this game but it's pretty expensive. I chose not to buy the season pass and to wait and see what the DLC is before I decide to buy said DLC. Something tells me the DLC will be pretty expansive but we'll wait and see.
-Plenty of game types to try from a simple TDM to the incredibly fun walker assault plenty to keep you busy.
-Lots of blasters and other weapons to unlock as well as lots of character customization.
-Multiplayer runs very well haven't experienced any lag. There was a slight server hiccup right after launch where you couldn't find a game but after about 45 mins or so servers were up and working fine. No in-game chat unfortunately so you'll have to use the Xbox party system to communicate with your friends, I don't mind this because now I don't have to listen to a 12 year old cursing and saying racial slurs and I use Party most of the time anyway but I can see why people would be let down by not having in-game chat. I don't like the fact you can only use a partner spawn rather then a squad spawn. If you have an odd number of players in your party one person will have to partner up with a random player while everyone else will have an in-party partner to spawn on. This is probably my biggest complaint.

Overall a great game with some minor things that I felt could have been better. I hope this is helpful for anyone looking to buy the game. Don't believe the haters and the COD and Battlefield fanboys go out and try this game and I promise you'll have fun.

I was bored of the game after about a total of 13 hours. For a multiplayer only game. This was not good. Now I have to say that if you drop the $120.00 and get the DLC later down the road that maybe this game will provide enough content to stay fun and diverse for a bit longer. Look- 10 out of 10.

Perhaps people don’t like to enjoy things for what they are anymore. But this reviewer would argue to enjoy everything in it’s place. Not every game needs to be played hundreds of hours to be enjoyed. I slapped down $13 to watch The Force Awakens on Dec. 18th. That will be complete in 2 hours. $60 for something I’ll enjoy for 40+ hours sounds fine to me, and the first 10 hours have been indicative of a worthwhile game.

Let's start with the obvious in that there is no single player campaign or Galactic Conquest, and prequel content is made to sit on the sidelines this time. This means that genuinely cool planets and heroes can't be included because DICE and EA have either limited themselves or been limited by Disney.

Gunplay is bland, with little to no recoil. Vehicles are clunky and hard to control on some maps (of which there are disappointingly few), and there are only three heroes per faction. Overall, I am disappointed by this game.

One last thing I forgot was that it was promised there would be no DLC, and then now there's a 50 dollar Season Pass. Knocking a couple points off for that one.

The character designs have all been iconic for 4 decades. The sounds were lifted straight from previous creations. We could talk about how the game lacks map variety and beloved game modes. We couldThe character designs have all been iconic for 4 decades. The sounds were lifted straight from previous creations. We could talk about how the game lacks map variety and beloved game modes. We could even talk about how they distort battles from the big screen to include unnecessary or detracting elements (X-Wings/TIE Fighters/Orbital Bombardment on Hoth) or didn't include elements that seem like they should be mandatory (AI Ewoks helping out the Rebellion on Endor). All of these things Star Wars: Battlefront did absolutely wrong, but it is the character "setup" and the tokens on maps are where it is most egregious. Gone are the days of class selection where you could switch on the fly depending on the need of the battle, and welcome to the days where everyone has basically the same setup as jetpacks are encouraged and real Star Wars battles are left to die. Add to this the fact that weapons are strewn around the map via tokens for you to pick up, and included in these might be the ability to play as a hero or jump into a vehicle.

Playstation 2 could allow you to see the ship, run up, and climb into it. Why is this so difficult for a current gen system to do? Oh, it's not? It's just because DICE put out an inferior product?

Do everyone a favor and avoid this title so that EA gets it into their head that people want games of quality, not just a "jingly key" game (shiny and noisy, but ultimately devoid of meaning).

Since my last review got deleted because of my choice words for the critics reviews of this game, I'll write another without mentioning how far off they really are. The graphics and sound are absolutely amazing. The game play is amazing as well. EA has a bad Reputation and there are a lot of trolls that give it a bad score because they're horrible at the game. Some of the users that rated it under 8 wouldn't know a good game if it slapped them in the face and it's obnoxious. I've played almost all the modes by myself and I love them, can't imagine how fun it'll be with a team. Yes there is no in game chat, in my opinion it's not a bad thing and saves you from having to mute the annoying squeakers etc. when playing FPS I'm always in a party chat so, no in game isn't a big deal to me. DICE kind of made it difficult on themselves when they followed the original trilogies and won't deviate from it to be able to add more content like weapons etc. Do yourself a favor and don't listen to the obvious trolls rating this low. To the trolls, it's not the game that sucks, it's you. Buy this game if you want endless hours of fun!!!! Expand

The game itself is great. The lack of content and the ponzi scheme that is DLC, will be its downfall.. EA trying to milk everyone dry with additional content. At first, I was dazzled by the smooth presentation of a Star Wars game with potential for big battles and epic moments. The graphics look good despite being 720p, thanks to good use of anti-aliasing to sharpen edges enough to fool you into thinking there is a more natural, higher-definition image before you. I applaud DICE and EA over this aspect, but it's probably the best part of this game outside of the Star Wars branding. I'm a fan of the Star Wars universe, but games haven't usually been good to play. The problems with Battlefront really stem from capitalizing on my imagination of an epic Star Wars battle. I step into a battle and am wowed, I run around and shoot stuff. But what else is there? Technically, not much. There are a handful of gametypes to choose from to vary your experience, but this is a dry shooter by today's standards as, after about 6-10 hours (depending on the person) the experience dries out and feels like there's nothing else to experience. The game is just good enough that some people will be okay with that, and good for them - if you can enjoy this game for 25+ hours, more power to ya. But for me, I expected this to be a lot of Battlefield with more fantasy implementations, because Battlefield is tried & true and Star Wars is huge and epic - the two should go together very well, and yet this is a half-baked package. The experience as infantry is perhaps the best part of the game, because stepping into vehicles feels very awkward and tough to control. The AT-AT is by far the best of the vehicles as you only control shooting. Jump into the AT-ST and it gets a little tougher to control. Even more-so are flight vehicles - they're so hard to control and nearly-impossible to master that I'm insane for jumping into one. I've managed to drop a couple rival fighters in the air, but mostly get crushed the moment I enter a battlefield because of target-locking missiles that others get that you may not (major point of imbalance!). But really controlling these vehicles is so bad and I'm beyond confused over this because I can control vehicles in Battlefield quite well (jets, helicopters - whatever they have I'm capable of using). By comparison, these are the worst controls of vehicles I've ever used (by comparison, don't overreact to that comment). There isn't a bona-fide single player, but you can play offline which is basically just the multiplayer stuff with AI units. I wouldn't mind this as I LOVED Titanfall, which had zero single player opportunities, but it feels pointless in Battlefront. Heroes are also a point of great fun. Jumping in as Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Baba Fett, etc. is fun because you basically melt multiple players in a single life without too much regard for your own health. It's randomized through icon pickups on the battlefield so it's not a killstreak or something else that you earn. You just gotta look for the hero icon to take part in this. And there you have it: Battlefield is fun to start off. Some people the mirage of an amazing game will be there for quite a while, but once you settle into the game and realize that the weapon unlocks and player card unlocks are all acquired (it doesn't take very long), there's nothing left to earn. You just play and, while that might be fun for a while, it leaves you having to love what is there. If you don't, you're going to regret buying this game. EA confirms a season pass for DLC which includes 16 maps (though they'll be divided among the gametypes, so that's not 16 maps you play through sitting on one gametype) for $50 - almost as much as the game. If there's any hope of Star Wars Battlefront getting better, it's going to be through the DLC. If you are on Xbox One, pay $5 for EA Access and play this game for 10 hours before you buy it. Worst case: you don't like it. Best case: you love it and you get 10% off the game when you're an EA Access member. Expand

Oh there are some very big flaws with the game, but these flaws do not prevent it from being incredibly fun in short bursts of time. Grenade spawn is a massive issue and there are some imbalanced weapons, making it very newbie unfriendly... But all in all, its pretty fun.

The issue is that this game plays it safe and doesn't offer anything new in its core shooting gameplay. It ignores progress made in the genre and that's most upsetting. Casual players will have a blast but it really isn't for the rest of us in my opinion.

Multiplayer shooter designed primarily for Star Wars fans. Simpler than its genre competitors it is, but it’s open to players of all kinds - at the same time it is not for everyone because of that “anyone can play” approach. [Issue #259]

As close as you'll get to getting your childhood back. Dig through the incredible production values and you'll find a serviceable shooter, but one with a potentially terminal lack of content. [Jan 2016, p.73]
